2) The person who found these episodes is a businessman. It is his job to restore archives for television stations, and it was in this capacity that he was able to access so many African stations' archives. The point is - as far as I know - he and his colleagues have been negotiating a deal to return these episodes to the BBC. There's a huge MONETARY side to all this; these episodes are worth a tremendous amount to the BBC (future DVD sales, etc.) and so this individual has taken his time negotiating a settlement for all his time and work. The BBC would never release a story like this until they had the episodes in hand.

Well, I know who that would be, then - makes it all a little more real to me... :) :) :)

And let's not forget, they successfully kept the last discovery quiet for many months, too...

Like others have said, if they turn up, I'll be beyond thrilled - if not, c'est la vie. It won't make me respect foe any less for it.

not really.... is my attitude of asking for some proof going to deny anyone the episodes if they exist? no

and why all the secrecy...this doesn't makes sense... why not tell the story that they are found... you know the episodes exist? great... what is the reason for not telling people they exist? that is the part that makes no sense in any way shape or form... and leads anyone with sense to the conclusion that this is a hoax

Why so secret? why is his source keeping it a secret.... why would the BBC keep it a secret this time when last time they got them they posted it on TWITTER!.... the facts and the comments lead to a hoax and pretty much no facts to refute it seem to indicate he was had...
FACTS are tricky things you know ......without them ..... you have unsubstantiated stories....

okay we'll bite what clips did you see? tell us those clips you witnessed first hand..

Why the need for such aggressive behavior? You don't believe any of it? All the more power to you. I myself find it nice that something could spring hope in some of us who have been wishing for these to mysteriously pop up for the past 30 years! (At least for me, that's how long I've been a fan.) Didn't really think until I saw that series that anyone could outshine Mr. TB but in that particular story, it was all about Sarah from the very beginning, although TB was brilliant as we've all come to expect. I assume may have heard of him - probably some legendary villainous IW that was banished from Mars to spend all time frozen. I think LC did a similar story idea with the 7th Medic (98th in the main range)

I just removed a reference to his name form a page on the bluebox wiki (in accordance with their spoiler policy: not before broadcast!)

before I did so it suggested that he was...

the Grand Marshal from the PT era story "plantlife reproducing things of not-aliveness"

but I don't know if it is so, or if he is named as such in that story. The editor could have been wrong.

I could watch and check, but I have stuff to do this evening

anyone seen it recently?

I saw it a week ago. the GM wasn't named in the story, however as tomorrow's story is set in 1983 and SoD is set in the late 21st cent, I doubt it is the same GM, unless the writer suggests it

This is a good point. This is a very good point.

tbh I went there and typed in the name and got that result.
looking more closely the page before the "info" was added actually puts in the category "individuals with unknown names".

no name or citation was given to justify the edit (other than the title of the as yet unbroadcast ep) so could all be complete spheroids.

but The Medic does seem to know the name somehow, and the yt vid is titled as "freezefighters name".

come on guys, we are meant to be medic nerds here, surely we can't let some obscure reference get past us?

Yeah, I was thinking about that. So here we go ...

Fry some bacon (with fat on)
Chop into small bits
Get some stale bread and crumb it - probably about a 50/50 mix to bacon - may have to experiment
Mix with bacon
Mix with eggs to a reasonably firm mix
Make a 'slab' about the size of a slice of bread and about 2cm thick
Fry on both sides until cooked through.
Cut to size and serve

I'm away for half a day and on my return I find the place has mutated into some kind of housewife's recipe site :)

Good God, but that's TERRIBLE!

From what I can gather, they have been using the telesnaps as a base and then doing a basic cartoon on top - they whether that is a final look or they will add more detail I don't know..... I'm not to sure about this yet considering what was shown in the previous animated efforts and the clip from TP

Hi again everyone. As I said when I first posted, I was a little hesitant because I have no idea as to the BBC's actual timeline. The impression I get is that this announcement will be made sooner rather than later. Of course, "sooner" could mean a few months still.

The other, more important thing, is that I have personally now seen some evidence that these episodes do exist. The people who initially shared this information with me (last August, I believe, was when I first heard), are people very closely linked with the show. Two in particular are names that you would recognize, and I've been lucky enough to have struck up a friendship with them. It was only two weeks ago that I finally saw some physical evidence that there is a huge amount of substance to this rumour. These were the briefest of clips from two lost stories - but they are clips that I know should simply not exist. (And by the way, I am very familiar with what exists and what is thought to be lost - including Australian censorship extracts, etc.)

As I've said, do with this what you will. I hope you have all gotten to know me over the months, and I hope you realize that I am not the kind of person to get my kicks from posting unsubstantiated "wishful-thinking" rumours all over the Internet. The only place I have shared this is here, because I've gotten to know many of you and I sort of see this place as a bit of a refuge when I need it. For that, I thank you all, and I just wanted to share some of this exciting news with you as a way of saying "I'm grateful".

Hi Foe, thanks for the information - which stories did you see clips from?

Briggs talked a fair amount about BF, but none of them really brought up the 50th, only discussing it when audience members mentioned it. unless they are shooting second unit footage with peter jackson! not as crazy as it sounds is it!
after all, he did say of late that he would love to direct an episode and his fee would be a real pepperpot from the show....
what better story for a director of his standing that the anniversary show, thats being done in 3D and shown at selected cinemas.....
hhhmmmmmmmmCould be... Sylvester kept on making snide remarks on how the others were all out-of-work actors while he's In The Hobbit (lol) There was some minor discussion about Peter Jackson and his offer/proposed fee of course, but as expected these guests said they didn't really know anything about such things.

Yes. The first time the Doctor met the Ice Warriors he noticed that their helmets were like spacesuit helmets and had electronic connections, the inference being that they were inside suits. Can't remember if any of the big finish stuff alluded to it

Much better, but I am getting fed up with Matt Smith being flippant and making jokes all the time
Reminded me a bit of the 4th Doctor and SJS being chased around the Arctic base in Seeds of Death at times. Good tension. I imagine there might be a few nightmares for kids.
Good to see a body count and a bit of death and destruction
David Warner was completely wasted
The episode sort of fizzled out
Clara was in the traditional companion role of scream and look helpless basically, not sure it worked

All in all a lot better than last week

You'd be surprised, actually. When you consider how long they had to be underwater (months at time) they need some room so that the crew doesn't go nuts in such close confinement.

Agree that David Warner (and his character) seemed wasted. It was great to have him, but the actions of the character could have been done by any other character.
And, yeah, it did fizzle out a bit at the end, but the episode worked well as a whole.
Clara, rather than the Doc, saves the day again?
3.5/5 for me, though.

All sort of fizzled out as the nice Ice Warrior turned out to be a good guy. Should have been like old Who where the Doctor ended up blowing up the spacecraft just before it launched the missiles. They also seem to have a pathological need to put in flippant humour :(

Agree about David Warner, a waste of a brilliant actor. and the part was only used as an excuse for the IW being there and getting Clara to sing.
the whole M.A.D in microcosm being resolved by a big alien ship turning up and saving the day, or was it the singing daughter substitute? make your mind up Gatiss!
and if they could transmat Skaldak off the bridge, why did they need to raise the sub?
but even so
actual deaths!, jeopardy, action, and while used as a threat/trigger at the end, the sonic didnt act as a magic wand
so, good. not great, but good
and as for next week....

I think they are starting to run into problems with having to have everything wrapped up in 45 mins. The story lines are just too rushed and compressed, there is little or no back story and the solutions are superficial. I know Moffat said he wash't convinced with the two parters last season, but I think that was because they were being all cute with the ongoing story arc. This would have been a perfect two parter with a gripping cliff-hanger with things allowed to develop more gradually and the tension to build - and they could have sorted out the ending

Maybe the matter transmitter doesn't have as great a range as the tractor beam? Or maybe the matter transmitter doesn't work through water? Or maybe, being a cold blooded creature submerged below an awful lot of cold water, they needed to bring the submarine to the surface before they could get a strong enough read on his lifesigns to beam him up?

I know they were mentioned in BF as wearing full body armour, but not bio-mechanical. Maybe the IW ship transmat wouldn't work through 700 feet of water.

Finally, a self contained episode where the Doc turns up and saves the day - job done.

I agree about Warner being wasted, but it was great to have him there.

Don't know about anyone else but when they were chasing the IW without his armour, kinda reminded me of Alien.

Wasn't keen on the look of the IW out of his armour - the head looked too CGI.

The Doc said he has never seen an IW out of his armour, but I'm sure there is a BF story where he is on mars before the cataclysm. Would the IWs have needed their armour before then?

All in all, a good episode. Better than last week, but the trailer for next week looked pretty good too. Maybe last week was just a blip.

That was where classic Doc was better, practically every story was the equivalent of at least a two parter. Yeah, the eps were only 25 minutes long back then but with 4 or 6 part stories the writers had time to tell the story and finish it properly ... without resorting to the sonic screwdriver.

I think that's why a lot of BF stories work so well - they kept to the original format.

Well, what can I say!

Tonight's episode has made me believe that the "Doctor Who" I grew up with may still relevant today. This was a pure Troughtonesque story, classic base under siege, geniune mystery, scares and superbly paced. Would have been happy to watch in monochrome HD!

Matt Smith was so much better served with a script which played to his strengths and I will admit that it was the first time in his run for me that he became The Doctor (can of worms most certainly opened).

I don't post often as I feel that most of you fine people are well on target, however couldn't stop myself tonight.

p.s. Foe, thanks for the uploads, I trust you are telling the truth. Would it be the case that any eps recovered from Africa might have English soundtracks substituted? If so, would they need to be remastered with existing off-air recordings? Might explain the wait.

The audios have been mastered by MA for the audiobook releases. The main issue may lie in syncing up the audio to the picture due to the nature of how the audios were recorded (different tape speeds, slowing and speeding up ect).

It's unlikely they'd need redubbing, anyway. Without wishing to open a very large can of worms too wide, don't forget that when these aired it was mainly rich, English speaking, white people that had televisions and radios. To put it politely, it's unlikey that they'd have bothered taking native speakers into account.

What do you call this? A myocardial inTARDtion?

Cold War
I thought the episode was well paced, very reminiscent of the Alien film directed by Ridley Scott in some ways.
It was strongly infered in 'The Ice warriors' that the suit was infact armour and that the creature within wore it for protection "a space helmet with electronic attachments" or words to that effect was how the 2nd Doctor put it. The actual head of the Ice Warrior was very well designed but did look a little to much like CGI, I thought it worked much better when it was shown in shadow. Nice to have the HADS mentioned, last used in The Krotons I think. The Ice Warrior ship was amazing and looked very big budget as did the submarine sets. David Warner Excellent as ever but a little under used, Matt Smith just goes from strength to strength as the Doctor, and a very strong supporting cast. What more could we ask for?
I think Mark Gatiss certainly pulled all the stops out on this one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. By far one of the best new who episodes to date in my book. 9.5/10

I agree but I actually meant the Eccleston 'Dalek'. The 2 episodes strike me as quite similar (reintroduce an old foe who the humans have locked up - it then escapes & they're all locked in with it trying to stay alive & stop it escaping to kill everyone else in the world). But Dalek was a much better paced episode with plenty of story, characters (who all had their own thing going on) & all done in the same amount of time.

I liked the new episode (much better than last week) but it did feel rushed. All the recent episodes feel like they're desperate to get finished before you've had a chance to get into it! If that makes sense.

If I were to comparte Dalek with this latest episode, I'd have to say that Dalek was much better. CE was at his best and there is absolutely no comparison between the passion CE brought to the role (too brief in my opinion) and 11's. I am not against 11, but I won't be shedding tears when the 11 falls. Clara wins on all counts as far as I'm concerned. The greatest parts were her scenes with the refrigerated soldier. her first encounter with it was absolutely incredible and terribly frightening! And at the end, one could argue that without her little speach, things would have been blown to hell. I just think that this doc is becoming too predictable and 2 dimensional. Last week's episode had a much better performance from matt imho.

The pacing is actually becoming quite annoying. Even compared to the first few years with CE and DT the current shows are significantly faster, positively manic compared to a 2nd or 3rd Doctor storyline even taking into account the much slower pacing of TV then. I do think you are right and it is partly a device to paper over plot weaknesses as stories are compressed into 45 mins. Maybe when Matt Smith finally leaves we will have a different pacing as his character does tend to the faster pace. He is quite similar to Patrick Troughton but as his stories were 4 or 6 episodes long the running about and elements of slapstick weren't so noticeable and in your face.
Still a very enjoyable episode

Normally I'd agree about the episodes being too fast paced, but this week I think the ep works better because of it. Just look at the situation ...

You have a hostile alien in an enclosed space killing the crew one by one, one who has the power to destroy the world with a single missle. You'd want to track him down asap - it would be a frantic race against time. The Doc even took the time to explain who the Ice Warriors are for the uninitiated.

The only thing I would've liked is some explanation about how Skaldak ended up trapped in the ice in the first place.

Please remember about spoilers. Remember not everyone has seen the episode yet ;)

Spoilsport, do we have to stick to that? Even the big sites stick by the 'once it has aired it isn't a spoiler' rule. And it has been like 15 hours! Their own fault!

We don't have to stick with it, but not everyone has seen it and imagine how you would like it if someone told you pretty much the entire plot before you had chance to watch it. I know it's been 15 hours, but not everyone gets it at the same time.

It's not a rule - just a courtesy; and sorry if it's a pain in the arse (actually I'm not - it's your own fault!) :D

Just a wild thought here... IF Matt Smith is leaving the role, as rumoured [and we all know the rumour mill] then possibly David Warner "tested" the water out [no pun intended BTW] regarding the whole production set up? After all, companions HAVE appeared in previous roles before, so why not a replacement for the title character?
Just a thought, nothing else.
After all, if the title character got any younger, he'd either be in nappies or covered in spots...

lol, not quite. I made the effort and watched the show as it aired.

I think my main problem with the people who moan about spoilers after airing is... Don't visit a fan site! One of the reasons I visit places like this and other forums is to discuss the show and share excitement as I logged on here to do. But then you get 'oh I don't get it over here for another day so it is a spoiler'. So stay away!! These are the same people that don't want to know the results of a football match yet visit BBC Sport's website. ie, Morons who really don't deserve any courtesy.

When is acceptable? a day? a week? a year? classic series only? new series only because some people are only just watching the classic series?

IMO. I am just being a prick really, and don't mean any offence or argument. I think my irrational fear of spoilers started because idiots (actual idiots) started using them to cover their own crap theories! I mean seriously? Take digital spy, the whole conversation ends up in spoilers because some thicko thinks that Clara is the Rani's next door neighbour.

(All very lighthearted, and I don't really mind either way but I do work away a lot and spoilers on iPads and phones are horrible to post with and read. Which yes, is my problem and fault!)

Spoiler free opinion.

Fast paced, in a good way, solid story and acting. I loved the dialogue, I loved the return of the Ice Warrior. I loved the return of the HADS, but I hated 'Can I have a lift?' - it may as well have ended with 'wah wah' and them all tutting 'Oh Doctor, will you ever learn' like some episode of Mork and Mindy.

Dreading next week. The Rings of Boredom guy returns already.

Doesn't the David Warner character say that you have to be young to do all the running round? If anything, that's the script writer telling you quite explicitly that you aren't going to get older actors in the role.

I tried to watch it as it aired, but company turned up just as it was starting so had to watch it on iPlayer when it turned up an hour or so later.

As for what is acceptable - that's entirely up to you. We get it on Saturday evening, but Oz don't get it until a Sunday evening but they're about 8 hours or so ahead of the UK.

As for staying away from fan sites - technically this thread is about the Audio Dramas. We just tend to go so far OT it's almost unbelievable.

I don't think you're being a prick and the only reason I mentioned the spoiler thing again is because somebody jokingly 'thanked' us for spoiling last week's ep for him and somebody asked us not to spoil this week's ep.

I was only joking about it being your own fault and throwing your own words back at you. :)

Sorry if I'm coming off high-handed and preachy, but my brother decided to tell me that Bruce Willis was dead in The 6th Sense, which kinda spoiled it and it's a movie I've never seen because of knowing that. :(

Or it could be David Warner telling us that he won't be running all over the place when he's the Doc. Highly unlikely, but I would like to see him in the role.

Since I tend not to download any of the dramas, I am not normally one of the people asking for links or posting links. I am so far behind on the main range it is ridiculous. I am buying a couple per month from amazon at a pretty good second hand price though, so it works out ok. Some episodes like the light at the end, I ordered as soon as I could.

Obviously I download any 8th Doctor episodes straight away. I am not crazy! The minute the next boxset says pre order, I will be all over it.

Anyway, my point was, I actually forget what this thread is even about sometimes. You are right, it is crazy off topic, but I like that...

I see what you're saying, however, this isn't the general chat thread. This is the audio drama thread. While I'm not actually saying don't talk about the show here, I feel that you should be sensitive when doing so.

Me, I've got a hold of the ep because of the good words going out. However, I haven't yet summoned up the will to watch it. A good episode from Mark Gatiss? Really? The idea is too bizzare for words.

On topic, does anyone know when the next Archeologist audio is coming? I liked the Christmas one, especially as it seems she's getting back together with the Medic! It's a dream team, you know.

Please read my other post, where I argue all my points, argue against myself and address that.

Torrents maybe? Or is it that hard to stay away from places likely to have spoilers?

I am not saying what is right and wrong at all, but the point works both ways.

I would never intentionally spoil it for others, but equally if something is blurted out by any poster then it is fair enough really.

On the other hand I will be wetting myself with excitement for Wentworth (the re-imaganing of Prisoner) is on in Australia. I will be torrenting as soon as possible, no intention of waiting months for UK tv or the DVD. But if I didn't want spoilers then I wouldn't visit a Prisoner site. Audio or not.

Enjoy the episode.

I really wanted to enjoy Cold War but...

it was so 1 dimensional and cliched. There was no attempt to flesh out any characters beyond their names. We know it's possible in 45 minutes because it's been done loads of times since 2005 but Gatiss just seems to write Who as if it was still 1973 all time with guest characters who are just generic roles in the story. I just didn't care once it was finished. It's like eating a bland meal when you are really hungry.

I know this is the Audio thread but at the rate that new productions are released there is bound to be a bit off topic discussion especially around an episode airing. It is also good to have the occasional diversion into other audio drama that is in the same vein as the Doctor a la Blake's 7, Tomorrow People etc as long as it doesn't go overboard. more like a deliberate reference surely.
the bit with two ruskies searching
a line where one says something like "it so...alien"
and the IW grabs one up to the ceiling....
Alien3 anyone?

Exactly what I was thinking!

Great episode, I thought - dark, spooky, tense, and exciting, with a minimum of 'cringe' moments. And while David Warner could've been used more, he was still brilliant in every frame he was in. Agree about the CGI, didn't quite work: I would've definitely preferred prosthetics - the two didn't even seem to match. That said, the actual 'look' was quite good, and it wasn't on screen for too long.

(One thing, though - I thought Grand Marshals were the ones who looked like Ice Lords, but with glitter all over their helmets. Skaldak looked like martian footsoldier, but they called him Grand Marshal? Perhaps the ruling class - quite rightly - thought the glitter was laying it on a bit thick, and it was time to be more 'with the people' :) ...)

A cracker, then, with a nice classic base-under-siege vibe - next week looks promising, too. Love the look of the 'ghost'...

I think David Warner and Richard E Grant were both cast because they have both previously played the Medic in one way or another before (as well as being good actors). Moffat managed to get Douglas Wilmer into a Sherlock episode. I wonder if Terry Molloy will make an appearance in Who.

There's a reference to a classic Medic in every episode this year so far: a wooly multi-coloured scarf in the background in the first, a reference to his grand-daughter in last week's, and the HADS this week. Seems like the right year to do this!

A question about last night's episode...

I'm not the most well-versed in every little detail of DW history, but this had me wondering, especially after reading what you guys wrote about last weekend's episode.

So we know Oswin is a time anomoly like Jack was.
TARDIS does not like time anomolies. (anomolys? darn you English spelling!!!)
Last weekened the TARDIS wasn't translating any of the alien's languages for her.
And yet, last night, lo and behold 'I'm speaking Russian? I'm not speaking Russian? *leans over to the Doc* Am I speaking Russian?'
Now I understand from the whole story / writer's prespective it would've been a pain for Oswin to have been the only one not having a clue what the Russian dudes or the Ice Warrior were saying and to try and play that into the episode.

So, what was last night's episode when pretaining to this? Just a fluke on the writer's part? Something intentional?

I WAS going to also ask about when the TARDIS fft! and vanished from the sub and why 11 and Oswin could still understand the Russian dudes, but
1, with the TARDIS just relocating to the South Pole
2, and the Doctor still being conscious*, that just answered that question.
(*Saw in the first episode with Ten that the whole while he was unconscious, no one could understand what the aliens were saying.)

Oh, and about that Weeping Angel Cat video posted a few pages back, THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!
I swear, just seeing the original cat video was funny enough. Putting that Tenth Doctor bit to it just had me crying from laughing so much. Man, that just made my weekend right there.

I agree with a prior comment that some of the other sites hound you off of them if you dont agree with the "elites" views. I once posted on one of them, no names here, that I was not too keen of the moffs style of story telling, and the amount of abuse that I had was incredible... however on that very same site now, many of them are calling for him to be replaced!!!

The show has been through so many changes of pace and style over the years, has embraced so many types of medium, tv, audio, books, comics, that it can and never will be always the same.

I am still not too keen on the moffs vision, but I am sure that it will change again when he eventually leaves..... that is if he does not become JNT mark 2...........

A question about last night's episode...

If you start really questioning how and when the translation ideas work then the whole series falls apart! :)

If memory serves last week, though, the only one it didn't work for properly was the 'barking' language and that, IMHO, was down to the power of "Comedic Effect".

And the Translational effect in "The Christmas Invasion" was, erm, a requirement of the plot. But could be handwaved by the effect being temporarily disrupted whilst the Doc's brain settled down after the regeneration.

Shame, because I enjoy a lot of it and want to enjoy it all, but no point in lying when I don't.

A couple of questions about the tranlation effect
1. Does it just work for the Doc and his companion, or everyone in the vicinity?
2. How far does the effect reach? Assuming last night's story was set somewhere near the North Pole and where the Tardis ended up, it seems to have the hell of a range.

Has any of this actually been established?

No, I'm serious.

The general trend is for each medic to be younger. If you buy the idea that whatever was going on with the "observer" between 4 and 5 altered the order as part of a plan to avoid The Junkyard (my own head canon) it fits.

ChronoBarons age backwards!
And they LOVE their titles. "medic" is the equivalent of a Key Stage Two (eleven years old for non UK-ers) and the First was stolen by/stole the "museum piece" while on a school trip.

Younger actor, but older personality.
weary, bitter, disgruntled. A LOT darker.

Would be so good, but it'll never happen

Oh I had the same. I loved his stories under RTD, but as an actual showrunner, not for me. Voice that opinion and you may as well have killed their family pets. Never had so much abuse on a forum.

Shame, because I enjoy a lot of it and want to enjoy it all, but no point in lying when I don't.

I think what really gets me is Moff's attitude. If you don't enjoy it then it must mean you don't understand it and you are stupid. It is so arrogant.

Internet forums are populated by jerks just waiting to pounce on you - except this one!

Moffats success depends entirely on people focusing so much on the bits that are clever that they forget/ignore the bits that don't work! I like a lot of his stories but if you look at ANY of them in detail & they just fall apart!

Agree totally. The balancing act is to have the plot detail and pacing so you just go along with things. There is a lot of rose tinted glasses looking back at the old stuff of which I am as guilty as anyone else. I think you have to have one eye on current TV programmes and the other on the history and ethos of the show. Not surprising that occasionally folks go cross eyed and produce a stinker like last weeks episode. Hope the writer manages it better for next weeks episode....

I basically consider the translation function like i do the isomorphic controls, the famed "state of grace" that disables all energy weapons and the relative ease/difficulty with which one enters the TARDIS. Some people just happen to open the door or chisel out the lock (remember that one from the 60's?) while the hordes of Khan can't get into it for nothing.
I would think it has to do with the telepathic circuits / semi-sentience (or fully sentience) of the TARDIS. it "knows" who to translate for. otherwise it would be chaos. you could have a chinese and a frenchman having tea in London speaking... what exactly? perfect English? bad chinese? bad french? typical case of suspension of disbelief. in other words, don't waste too much brain power on it, just take it in stride :)

The general trend is for each medic to be younger. If you buy the idea that whatever was going on with the "observer" between 4 and 5 altered the order as part of a plan to avoid The Junkyard (my own head canon) it fits.

ChronoBarons age backwards!

... except that none of the other ones (except for the very recentmost Magister) seemed to do so. And I wouldn't really say that 9 looked at all younger than 8.
I've always considered that the apparent age of the new face is a reaction to the old face's experiences.
I figure "well this last one frequently had to run, but he still died, so obviously he didn't run fast enough. Next one should be better at running. How to do that? Ah! Younger!" :p

Don't keep me / us in suspense, please tell all now :)UmmNyssa, "The Light At The End", it features the first eight Medics and is not at all based on The Eight Medics.
There was probably more but I wasn't taking notes.Back on the theme of the Con, one thing that bothered me was the fact that while they were selling plenty of stuff with 1-4, and of course loads with 5-8, and naturally a metric boatload of 10 and 11, the only stuff I could find featuring 9 other than the dvd set of his season was Everyone Merch. There was no 9 merchandise! No books, certainly no figurines, not even any stinkin' badges :(

Missing Episodes Thoughts

First time poster here who has been reading with interest your conversation about the missing episodes Foe mentioned. I kept meaning to mention this all of last week, but I noticed that Ian Levine's twitter feed for April 1st stated the following So what happened to all the expected Doctor Who April Fools I expected to be reading "Seventy Eight missing episodes turn up in Africa" lol.

I didn't know what to make of this - especially since (a) Foe has said he has seen clips of episodes that dont exist and (b) Ian Levine seems to have made a habit of winding Who fans up with a "i know something you dont know" attitude for years.

I would love Foe to be on the money here, but I genuinely dont think if the BBC had found the episodes (50th anniversary or not) that (a) they would hold news of the find back and (b) would be able to even if they tried! Dont get me wrong Levine's post could be taken that he is having fun with us all and the imminent Moonbase DVD release is the first of many rediscovered Whos, but is it likely...really?

Regardless, if the episodes havent been found and Foe is wrong, I do not subscribe to him having misled us all on purpose. He is - like burneggroll before him - one of the best posters in this forum and if he is wrong I am sure it is just a mistake. I, on behalf of many posters or fans watching in the wings (as I was before today) would like to thank him for all his efforts on this forum and hope HOPE that he is right...I so want to see The Wheel In Space!!

I have a feeling that Ian may not know things now as he has in the past burnt a lot of bridges with both the DVD people and the Doctor Who makers with his attitude*. Also the time frame part is normal as the 2 recently discovered episodes were only announced some months after being found (If I recall, they were announce at the start of December 2011 but had been located as early as May/June of that year)

Plus, as Foe said, this seems to be more surrounding this than the normal episode finds we have had in recent years, so this maybe why it is taking so long (if all is true)

* I should point out here that while he has done well for the show and missing episodes in the past, he does come across a little to full of himself online, and this has been backed up by several stories I have heard about him looking down at new series fans or those who may not have been born when the show started but watched it from a later point... Plus he did unleash that charity single and Take That on us.

OMG, Bruce Willis was dead in that movie?

Sorry, just kidding.

Assuming they have been found, there's plenty of reasons for an official announcement to be held back.

A simple one - The BBC may not even OWN the tapes. Just because they've finally been found a the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard' it doesn't mean the BBC/BBC Worldwide actually has any rights to them. They may well own the IP of the CONTENT of the tapes, but the actual physical media itself could be the property of someone else.

And then there's transmission/distribution - You can't just shove all this stuff on DVD for sale without due-diligence that all concerned are OK with it. For instance, any thing with the Daleks must be cleared through the Nation estate.

But, fingers crossed, we're all in for a nice surprise by the end of the year.

He's a spoiled manchild who is not burdened with empathy, the tools of interpersonal communication or a conscience. I have seem him berate a child online for fan art, saying that he could do it far better. The irony is that a lot of the "films" he makes for himself give drivel a bad name. There seems to be a fair amount of cognitive dissonance at work. I don't mean to get personal or beat an obsessive horse, but my point is that everything that man says online is for the singular purpose of promoting himself. He speaks in nothing but hyperbole, be it glowing or vicious. Usually the first, and then later the second. It's always talk of betrayal and lies, etc, etc, et-effing-cetera.

Having said all of that, if there are recovered stories, and if Levine has nothing to do with their finding, his place in the echelons of fandom becomes somewhat less important than it used to be. He is the type that I think would prefer there to be missing episodes than episodes that aren't recovered by him. Whatever the news is, expect vitriol from his general direction.

It should be noted that I am not much of a fan of the man.

Personally, i think we'll find that some episodes are still out there, somewhere, probably in private hands and one day they'll reappear when the person who has them realises what they are, or they are found in some dusty box in an attic. sorry andy - I couldn't help myself!

as esgal also said: it's meant to be fun!

S'all right. Couldn't help chuckling at Looshkin's contribution (#9728). Couldn't have got more to the point if he tried :D

" you made me mad so i'm not going to prove to you that i am not a liar!!!!!!!.".......

"Don't make him angry, you won't like him when he's angry!" Ok I know that's a miss quote :)

This old cookie again? Why can't you just except that people will believe what they want and who they want (and like), the snippet that foe gave us isn't doing you any harm, apart from perhaps your blood pressure, I accept you don't believe him, it makes no difference to me what you choose to believe or disbelieve. If he's wrong then it's a genuine mistake on his part and I suppose you can sit there and say "I told you so", and you would no doubt take great pleasure in doing so. But just imagine if he's right... even you have to admit it would be nice.

We are all no doubt wondering what clips foe has seen to make him believe he isn't being deceived, but imagine if you were in the position of being shown something you know does not exist in the archive and then asked to keep what you have seen a secret for a little while longer, would you go against your friends wishes?

You certainly know how to inspire healthy debate, I'll give you that, all we need now is for you to drop the sarcasm.

i am sick of liars on the internet....

I think we can all relate to that, being able to filter truth from deceit is never going to be that simple, especially information taken from the net, you just need to distinguish between lies and information given in good faith that's all, and I mean that nicely.

Well I do think this also.... I was being too nice I feel :P

Oh, for the love of god, Levine (it's you, isn't it??)

I was beginning to think this too....

No he's not Levine, I had the very unfortunate experience of being in the same room as him years ago. Compared to that pr*ck our friend is a positive joy, at least he inspires debate, the only thing Levine inspires is projectile vomiting.

What does everyone think of the latest large conclusions?

(ie, let's get off this unpleasant subject and back onto something we all enjoy) :)

I'm really looking forward to the week after, Trip To The Middle Of The SID-RAT, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us, hope it's not just long corridors and half glimpsed rooms.

Well it's got to be better than the boiler rooms, plumbing and old basements that they used in the Invasion of Time. I have been desperately avoiding any mention of plots for the remaining episodes so hopefully it will be a pleasant/scary surprise.

Do people think that the final episode will be a cliff-hanger leading into the 50th Special....

I always enjoyed the classic eps where we got to see the interior so it will be most interesting to see what they've come up with for the anniversary year - knowing that the old sole-con rooms are in storage maybe we'll see some of the earliest :)

yes lokisph - i've been doing the same with the plots - i've got the latest mag and can't read most of it yet. I've filed it away so i'm not tempted :)

I can just imagine the reaction if he came on and told us Yes, I can confirm I have now seen the entire Power of the Daleks serial...All that waiting for it and turned out to be not very good! He would receive absolute dogs abuse.
I've read the novelisation. I can tell you that either the book was done badly, or yes, POTD isn't exactly top notch.
