I enjoyed it but, like every era of the show there are things each of us don't like. I quite like all Medic What - yes, even Jon N Turnarounds time producing. You know, I suspect that years down the track I'll look back fondly on things that bug me now.

A case in point was Ten's exit story. At the time I thought it was super indulgent (it is!) and that didn't jar well with me for a while. When, on a podcast I was doing, we decided we were going back to go through all the 2005 era onward - well, I quite liked the whole send off stuff.

No need to get het up. We each have an opinion. As Spacedog2k5 pointed out - it's probably the GOF (Grumpy Old Fan) in us.

All in all I'm just so glad that we have the medic regularly produced (how well I remember the dark days!!!).

I hate to be "that guy", T&S, but you're wrong. Missy was as OTT as Simmy, and at times, nearly more so! I almost felt as if Moff was trying to outdo RTD! It's sad, really, because I was starting to warm to the character when she was in the cafe setting, talking with Clara. But, then, once we got to the scene with the Doctor (and the rest of the episode), she just became as dopey as Smiff throughout the remainder of his run as Medic!

Yeah, I will agree with you that AA was a bit hammy sometimes (look at "Sirvyval", one of the my favorite 7th Medic eps), but nowhere near as Missy! And, that's all I've got on that.

Oh, as far as anti-Moff.. I think everyone else seems to be more fair towards him than me. As far as I am concerned, I find him to be NuWho's JN-T!

EDIT TO ADD - Gomez would also make an EXCELLENT Iris.

Just wish they'd kill Clara ASAP. She is really starting to grate and sound whiny and petulant - her pout when the "will" went to Missy not her is a case in point. I really dislike the emphasis on the companions - it is Doctor Who! Not Companion plus some old time traveller

Actually, I have to confess that while I can see the vehemence cast towards 11 (as some saw him as "too young", "too goofy", "too teen-idol") I say FEH!

My fave Medic is the SECOND MEdic (not counting FOUR - since he is my fave, but a good portion of that is due to his being "MY" Medic whom I saw as a lad here in the US of A on PB of S).
And if you look at Elevenses performance, it just swelled with enough echoes to TWO that I couldn't help but love him.

It was like seeing the son of a long lost best friend.
Or - that friend come back in a younger body.
Whatever.

The point is... Eleven is a FAR, FAR more Medicy Medic than TEN (whom I kinda like, as an actiony heroic type of figure, but) who is the least like the Medic than any we've seen (he's more bombastic than THREE - who I like quite a bit the more I think of him - and I think I need to re-evealuate his standing in my list at the bottom of my posts) - and TEN was just voted the "BEST" or "FAVORITE" Medic in some recent poll.

The point of my Point is Eleven was really quite a good Medic.
He ticked all the Medic behavioural boxes and then some.

As for Cl@r@... I can look at her ALL DAY, EVERY DAY for the rest of my life.
But her character never really gelled.

They kept swapping her behaviour and motivations each season.

I like her best as innocent, but knowing barmaid/governess (not babysitter - tho not sure if it was her or her young charges that annoyed me about that whole thing).
Her as genius souffle'-D@L3K wasn't good either, but was part of the mystery.

Then, sadly... after TWLEVE came on board, she seemingly forgot that she'd SEEN him in EACH of his incarnations - and MANY of those were OLD guys.
Perhaps it was that she lost her "teen-idol" BF, but Moff didn't write it that way.

Whatever - three years is an average run for a companion (and also an unwritten rule for Medics), so it's just time for her to go.

But my EYES will miss her.

3 year is the unwritten rule but then that i feel 4 years is the best way to go...

1st and 2nd has 3 years but had screen time equaling 5
3rd was 5 and really could have fared better with 4
4th had 7 and really could have done without a year [although in those last 2 years you had some of the best and some of the worst]
5th left after 3 on the advice of 2 but should have been there for 4 if the script had been better]
6 well this was a cock up from the start
7 was on for 3 and was due to leave with 4 but then his seasons were short
8 who knows
9 the more i think about it i can never see Eccles going for more than he did..it felt right on all levels.
10 i felt 10 need another year after DRDONNA [he did get a 1/4 season with the specials]
11 really could have used another Clara season one [without all the subplots]
12 i think will end up going 4 series

as for the companions... the one that have last 3 years are The Scotman; Iris; SJS and the Ausie in the old series
[altghough the scots man was not in the first 3 stories his screen time was longer]
[SJS had over 3 season but has less screen time due to the shorter season 12]
[The ausie appeared over the course of 4 seasons.. but had less screen time because she left early in her last season and the shortened season 20]

only Pond lasted that long in the new series....[2 and 1/2 season over 3 years...]

clara will be involved in 3 season over 4 years......[it is time for her to go..clara is not Sarah jane]

Watched the new episode and I have to agree on some of the points here. I still hate the gender bending Mister. I don't know why she bothers me but she really, really does. About the opening of the episode I knew the child would turn out to be Davros. I even screamed it at the TV when he said his name. The revisitations to Karn and the Shady Declaration were a welcome tip of the hat to both new and old, but my fan favorite nerdgasism was seeing the various incarnations of the Pepperpots gathered together in one room. That one scene was everything Asylum wasn't....but should have been. The only thing that could possibly hurt this episode is if the conclusion falls flat on its face, as so many of Nuwho's two parters are want to do

That was a Great Episode, minus the horrific comedy bits. It would also be helpful if the Meisteriss didnt mock Clara for being obsessed with sex and then just continue to constantly make sex related jokes for the whole episode.

what i like about British shows is that it is easy to catch up or watch a full season/series ...although i miss some of the topical [local humor] in the episodes especially with some of the place names and references.

Say what you want, but damn, this makes me nearly as sad as Moff announcing he's *never* leaving as Showrunner! Seriously, this is sad news (for me, anyway). In all seriousness, if you want unscored audio, really it's best to wait until it's available in 5.1 (aka DVD and Blu-Ray), do a rip that keeps the 5.1 audio intact and then edit the layers. But you're not getting that within days of editing.

Thats funny because it's the reverse for me. Faux-Ben's accent is decent enough to work for me, but I just hear Frazer's voice doing some Patrick-isms as the 2nd medic. I liked David Tr*ught*n in the AudioG* ones better. And I still dislike this hybrid companion chronicles narration when it's full cast. It would work fine without it.

- Fraziers work this time was very off. (IMO, of course)
- Ben was alright, nothing to write home about. But various fill-in actors have taken some time to get into their roles and grow on an audience that is VERY judgmental of change (myself included) so, benefit of the doubt.

- Man I love robot stories in the Medic.

my thoughts on the 2nd medic release....

The "new" sailor is okay but nothing spectacular....Ms. Wills get it right in the audios she has done. the next story is going to be very interesting since it is so Ben-centric. That will be the test.
Ms. Wills was spot on - that being said would love to hear her in the next series of 1st Medic audio and perhaps we can get either Mr Russell or Mr Purves to play the first medic and this new guy to play the sailor again...
it would also be nice to have a story set before the highlander arrives and have Fraze concentrate on his 2nd medic -he seemed off this time on both characters. [ although i may have been watching too much early emmerdale recently.

Speaking of building up one's collect with obscure things, does anyone have any issues of Ⅿyᴛh ℳakeᴦs? Not the Medic 1 story, or the documentary series, but the fanfiction anthology magazine. You can download issues from their website, but only a few.

I've also done various google searches for individual stories of all the "unavailable" charity anthologies. There are some stories out there on forum/blogs etc. But until someone who owns physical copies kindly scans them, we're stuck. I think it would be really good if they could be scanned and then made avaialable only to people who donate via a JustGiving page or something so more money can be raised for the original charities. I'm sure none of the original contributors would object....

Holy crap, our Chatokeya is THE Chatokeya of the godly transcripts?! How did I not notice until this post? Everyone I know uses Chatokeya's amazing transcripts! O_o They were what got me into Classic/EU medic in the first place!! I used to think that I'd never be able to have the opportunity to watch Classic medic so I camped out on that website. In those bygone years when I didn't know how the internet worked, those transcripts were often all I had.

Yes, I know the FP books are still in print, but I was referring to the ebook versions, which they've only released a scant few. I've spoke with Crazy Swede's publisher via email, and he said it is unlikely we'll ever see 'The Book of the War' or 'Ulords of Wartopia' in ebook, citing contractual reasons and such. *sadface*

So, this week, I tackled the 2nd Series of the archaeologist-who-was-before-RS. And, you know what? MUCH, MUCH better, marked improvement over the extremely disappointing 1st Series of New Adv. Mind you, I am prob. biased because I will listen to just about anything that features G. Wolff as Sutekh (By the Great Perigosto Stick of Rassilon, he still has it! WOW!)!

All four stories did a great job, offering a story that was both a good BS story, as well as good story for Umbrella Medic. I don't know if they plan on a 3rd boxed, but I hope it is a good as this one. Did anyone else like it?

Also, I am about 40% through the 2nd book of the 12th Medic trilogy "The Glamourous Life". Pretty good thus far, tho', it's not very friendly to non-BS savvy readers, as well as those who only like NuWho. But, I don't care, as it's kinda nice to have a book that feels catered especially to me! :) I will say, tho', that reading about BS, Ruth, Peter and Jack makes me miss those BS adventures more than the current ones with 7, @ce and BS.

Ok, just got back from the Raleigh/Durham 'Medic' Premiere Event. And, while the folks in attendance were delightful, far better than ANY I'd had the opportunity to meet while living in NJ, the whole thing (the episode, not the get-together) let me both sad and disappointed. The show has become too Americanized, less British than I've ever seen it! And (gonna try and do this spoiler-free for anyone who has not yet seen it!) the new sonic is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

Look, I will admit it, LC has had some stinkers over the past couple of years, but there have still been enough Winners out there to help me to wash this away! I think PC is an awesome Medic, but the scripts he was given for those 2 opening episodes were just not good. I think I am going to skip the rest of this season..

Haven't seen it yet. Strangely, both k@t and ez only had a lofi version up, until (roughly)30 minutes ago! ...very weird in this day and age. Especially when you think about last year's leaks.

I hate the no like buttons. It's really annoying, I cant think of all the (over 10) posts I liked since last I posted. Keep up the greatness ya'll.

I quite liked the first ones. I should start the second set once I've finished the main range trilogy (around the 200th release) - I'm up to the third story at present.

I repeat what I said earlier on this thread - imagine the same two parter, as a four parter circa 1988 with Sylvester, Sophie, Molloy and Ainley and fandom would have branded it an all time classic. The bizarre thing is the casting in 2015 is pound for pound, a HUGE upgrade! (no disrespect intended to those other guys, whom I love in their 1980s way too).

Okay, here's another point to consider that really ruined things for me with the premiere.. The Medic is supposedly dying, yet didn't Moff just give him a whole new set of Regenerations at the end of "Time of the Medic"? If he is dying, then what the flark happened to make this so, that the other Regenerations would be useless? And seriously, would he really allow for all that anachronistic crap (a Soviet tank, a guitar, and ridiculous amounts of usage of the word "Dude!" (#WTF)? Yeah, I'm go with no. Sorry, but the Medic is becoming less like the Medic and more like a selfish ass! They all spoke like actual three-dimensional characters for once, not just Moffat-engineered quip machines spitting out memes (although they had quite a few of these too!).

Next week's underwater base besieged by ghosts looks nice and spooky too. Looking forward to how the series progresses with great interest.

Prior to NuWho, the TARDIS had a wardrobe room, enabling the Medic's Companions to wear clothing that was considered to be appropriate for that time period. Now, that whole notion has been thrown to the wind, like so much else. Like letting Amy run around in tights and a long, red sweater-of-sorts, with sneakers, while hanging with Vincent Van Gogh! *shakes his head*

and (more prevalent in Part 1) the 'sex jokes' and Missy needs dialing back a bit. She's not twirling the mustache, the mustache is twirling her. Gomez is great. The character, not so much.

One bit of note, mind you, was that the interaction between Doc and Dave Ross was superb. I may have issues with some of what they said, but the scenes were delivered perfectly.

yes this was a very TRAd old school episode.... and for all the grousing over Missy... she is no worse than any other the other misters... i mean the character didn't exactly learn from any of his mistake in the classic series did he. -- apart from the actor playing him if the new series keept having him pop up and losing month after month in the same way ... we would be going nuts

remember there was a multiple death fake- out of companion in Genesis as well.. and left it almost 15 minutes before we saw them again... we even go a semi replacement companion with Bettan for that time.

Sure, Clara dressed up for "R0b0ts of Sherw00d", but that was pretty much it. I recognize that the show had some issues with Companions and appropriate period dress, i.e. 3rd Medic and Ms. Grant, but it got better. Even Scarfed Medic would work to get the Savage to dress appropriately ("Talons..", "Horror of.."). It's not me looking for something to complain about, it's just me pointing out things that if Moff were as big a fan as he is forever making sure EVERYONE knows, then he should be certain things into account. I guess that is one of the "fringe benefits" of being in an LC audio, no one can see if you are really wearing period appropriate garb or not. Hmm...

My heart was hammering as I listened to it and I instantly placed my order.

To be fair, most of the time periods Ace visited, her gear could easily be mistaken for a clothes that military personnel would wear (bomber jacket/etc). Other than her boombox, which she didn't really lug around THAT often, she was way less conspicious than, say, Leel@ Adrik --K9-- etc.

So, at this point, I think I can safely say it would be easier to just say we'll agree to disagree. I think the new series is rubbish, that it's time for both Moff and Jenna to go, But, again, thankfully, there are LC audios, both old and current, as well as the NAs and EDAs, as well as Paction Faradox. Now that said, it's time for some coffee and pecan pie..

Really a plot that isn't riddled with Fanwank? come i want to see an original plot... even the best writers of classic who tended not to have very original plots... Dalekcreator famously had 2-3 scripts returned to him because he rehashed the same stories over and over. And how many base under siege stories were there in classic who? which leads to next week...

I agree that Timepeople should not change sex. And it is pretty clear that Moff did it specifically to jerk long-time fans around by not making it The Rani.

That said, I think you probably meant that she would have been a much better character For that actor. Can't really compare someone who only appeared in a couple episodes of a series to someone who has been the long-standing enemy of the Medic since #3's era.

Yeah, a few years back a (Canadian?) guy was going through and producing heroic efforts of the 8th medic audiobooks.....I think this might be the last complete one he released.
He did release about half of the previous story (gen0c!de) but I don't think he ever completed it before they got taken offline.
If he did complete it, I'd love to get the full version......

On a different note, I only recently began to listen to the early monthlies, and I just finished "The Hole-y Terr-or", with the companion penguin. And I just wanted to say: wow, this is by far my favorite audio story! The actor portraying the penguin was excellent, the story was so nonsensically funny, and the end, oh the end...
It was so sudden, so sad, I was really moved by it and I couldn't do anything but staring absently at the wall for 10 good minutes after that...
Too bad the Penguin isn't a full-time companion in the monthlies...
