Hi all, I know there are a few fans on here of the audio adventures of a certain leith inspector of police. anyone got or know where i can get hold of, by fair means or foul, series 11 and 12? I heard of him here and am desperate to hear the last 2 runs.

The 8th Medic's birthday is today. It was on this date 20 years ago that FOX aired the TV movie that wrote the final chapter of the classic series and started Medic Who on the rode to a new life, first in audio then with its return to television a decade later.

They've repeatedly said no. The second series was released in 2009 and didn't sell it's initial CD stock until early 2014. Beyond that, the story wasn't great and it got wrapped up. I wouldn't want to see more unless it was entirely original.

Fair enough. Makes it seem a very odd choice to bother repackaging them, then, doesn't it? Perhaps it's a popular choice at Cons?

The new set is because it's the 50th anniversary of the metal men. I believe they're having some events in the UK to celebrate, which is probably why they're rereleasing them, in hopes that added attention will lead to more sales. But since they were out of many of the original disks, that would make it hard to sell them now! Plus, I'm sure that they knew that some completists would buy a new box set. They're not offering any discount to owners of the originals, though.

As for what's new, there's an extra disc of documentary extras.

Nick did hint that there was a chance of a third series in a recent podcast, but it didn't sound like they had any concrete plans.

I might have to sample them both to see which has a higher spectrum-wavefront audio clarity factor!
Welllll.... if I DO access both alternate occurances of the same initial audio-entity, I'd have to make sure to reverse the polarity of the intake manifold or else, if the two versions ever touch - heaven forbid within my own HEAD at the same time - the BLINOVITCH Limitation Effect might destroy all of creation!

Wellll... if I were to hit it with the sonic, it might alter the wavefront just enough so as to render one sample just slightly out-of-synch with the other.
That should take care of everything!

Saw that in one week the new Homeworld featuring Timelady II, The Savage, and Ace of Spades will be released. Still kinda wonder why they went with Roma II over Roma III. From the story description sounds like they could have used both versions

I mentioned this back in an earlier post but for the sake of not searching… I'm friends with Juliet and she loved doing Roma III and wanted to continue. LC had plans for her & very likely some of which are present in this upcoming Homeworld release. But Roma II actress did not care for Roma III and saw her as a threat and a way to phase her out. She holds clout with LC and LC knows she has the history and fan following so by direct or indirect means they basically went her way and dropped the Roma III plans for the time being and gave Roma II the III stories being developed. Juliet was pushing hard to appear in at least 1 or 2 of the 4th Medic Story stories as well but this died along with the Homeworld talks at the same time. Should Roma II ever change her mind or move on from LC I feel we will see the return of Roma III but until then… sadly nope.

I mentioned this back in an earlier post but for the sake of not searching… I'm friends with Juliet and she loved doing Roma III and wanted to continue. LC had plans for her & very likely some of which are present in this upcoming Homeworld release. But Roma II actress did not care for Roma III and saw her as a threat and a way to phase her out. She holds clout with LC and LC knows she has the history and fan following so by direct or indirect means they basically went her way and dropped the Roma III plans for the time being and gave Roma II the III stories being developed. Juliet was pushing hard to appear in at least 1 or 2 of the 4th Medic Story stories as well but this died along with the Homeworld talks at the same time. Should Roma II ever change her mind or move on from LC I feel we will see the return of Roma III but until then… sadly nope.

Yes, it's quite odd if you realize all that LC does in producing stories for everyone. Maybe Roma II is that hard up for money she wants to hog all she can!

I once got a new manager at my job. I had to train him myself. So I can understand not wanting to be phased out. But maybe R2 just wanted to do as much acting as she could with her remaining years. Life is short and we all want to squeeze in as much living as we can. Or maybe she just wants to solidify her place in history a bit more firmly. And furthermore i can imagine how painful it must be to hear fans come up and say "Hey, we love you as R. But the new one didn't have you in it. What's the deal? Are you still making these? Please tell me you're going to keep making more!" Let's show R2 our love and respect by giving her the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure LC isn't going to lose Juliet's agent's number.

What a PITA for JL. As others have said, you would have though that R2 had more class than to think she was being moved out, especially now that she and TB are working together.

But what's more frustrating ... if you you follow the Gally storyline we get a regeneration that now seems to have been de-regen'd without any story reason. (Unless, of course, I've forgotten something about the R2-R3 handover story?)

Thinking about it, R3 would work well with the Wor Doc.

Well, here's hoping she comes back sooner rather than later. She makes a great addition to the Worlds Of ... that LC have created.


(Or, tee-hee, get her back as an Iris. Can't see Ms M getting her knickers in a twist over that, especially if it gave her a Two Irises story.)

I agree that JL really needs some more time at the mic to relax into her performance, but I really liked the way the seemed to be headed with her; there was an echo of how Serverlan could be if she used her 'advantages' for Good rather than Evil.

Never been a comic fan, but it's great to see that the Classics are getting more love elsewhere.

Thx for the general support for JL/Roma III. It's a little puzzling indeed since as you say - they've made room for 7 (more if you count Unbound) incarnations of the Medic, they've successfully recast the Reni, and they've added a New Maester to the mix too. Eventually the character needs to be moved forward and it's a given Roma would have other incarnations. At least the foundation has been laid and I'm sure at some point down the line one way or another we'll see more of JL as Roma III if not perhaps an even further future version of the character since LC is doing so well and got such a lengthy extension to the license.

My only thought on Roma II is maybe with Roma I now gone she felt even more� responsible for the part or something. I half get it but yeah seemed like a diva move. I remain hopeful somehow JL gets another crack at it. A combo War medic series or story sounds great.

Roma III is due to return to the UK soon for other work and more shooting on her Documentary. While there I wouldn't be surprised if they check in with the LC people as they remain on good terms and they like to get the latest scoops on Medic developments anyway.

That implies LW went gunning for her part. According to everything anybody has ever said, including MT, TB and everyone else involved, Mary was adamant about only doing one year on the show. They asked her to stay at the end, and she wanted to move on. No one was "deposed" in favour of someone else. Trying to manufacture controversy where there is none does no one any good.

I think there is a lot of suspicion being tossed around about LW somehow pushing R3 out when it is likely a variety of things; poor reception of R3's stuff sales-wise, scheduling on R3's part - not to mention the incredibly full LC schedule (the fact LW is doing stuff on the 4th Medic likely makes her far easier to fit into other things right now), and just the generally great chemistry and availability that LW has with the other LC actors. However, Narvin recently said in an interview that the upcoming Homeworld would have some big tie-in surprises, so I guess we will see how that goes about.

Today, my physical copy of EarthBirds 2 arrived ! I am always happy to get physical LC releases (and have them make the journey across the ocean without being smashed or outright stolen in-transit) I admit this is the first time that the issue of Vortex managed to have gotten the crap kicked out of it without the CD's or Case sustaining any damage at all... it's basically a few torn rags... BUT THE DISCS MADE IT and, By God, that is a victory!

I was wondering about the 2nd Persuasioners commentary as my region 4 copy said there were two (Overture & A Death in the Family). A while ago they had quite a few of the box-sets of series like the Captive and Persuasioners for only $15 or less. I already had the Captive, but I'd really love the Blu-ray set. My set was only the 35th Anniversary edition. Yeah, it was a shame Pat McGlue-hen didn't do a commentary.

Unfortunately, Sashabot is correct. I tried on my Kindle as well, only to receive the DRM message. You can remove that using Cablibre, but it has to be done by the person who has the book and the DRM. Otherwise, SOL.

There is a thing called an atv:kin1: header embedded in all bought k1ndle books and rented k1ndle books which will link back to your 4mazon account. (although no one has been b@nned or su3d yet the information is contained in the file)

I listened to the first of the new 10th MEDIC stories and found a weird in-story continuity flub (unless I missed a scene).

Near the end, when the Medic gives the "muscular train operator" the sonic, "Muscles" still has it as he rams the train into the "Stupid-machine", where the Medic and DrDonna are tied up.

Right after the machine explodes, the Medic is heard to whip out his sonic and use it - BUT He never got it back from "Muscles".
Did I miss a bit where Muscles runs up and passes over the sonic?
Or is it a very obvious continuity flub?

I'll confess that I was listening while driving in CRAZY New York traffic, so I might have missed a beat.

It reminds me, as I've just read the 4th Medic story R0b0ts of Deth and Uncle Terry (of the Dicks kind) talks about Cass's death (page 42) . In just one page, at the start of the next chapter (page 43) he's describing the people assembled in a room, with Cass being one of them. This, towards the end of page 42 "Whoever had killed Cass, it wasn't the girl..." And the very next page: "Uvan0v looked at the assembled crew...the heavy figure of Borg, the lean, muscular Cass, and the neat, precise Dask..."

Oh dear. The next thing they're discussing "There's been another murder, Cass is dead". What a mistake to make. I forgive Uncle Terry as I grew up on his books.

That was a superb collection of stories. The last one felt like it really needed to be a 2CD'er as it felt at times like some scenes were 'missing'. Maybe not 2CDs, perhaps more 3x30min eps.

I hope not. The series ended perfectly (well, the best it could under the circumstances) and is mostly forgotten now and I don't think it would sell very well as the series was always wrongly seen as just a kids show by most DW fans, unfortunately. Plus the previous BBC Audio releases were pretty bad from the ones I've heard. I just don't think the series works well on audio.

i for one would love to see the kids become full companions maybe Luke and Sky smith traveling with the 10th doc or Rani and Clive traveling the world with Jo and her Grandson Santiago. Maybe not adresss Sarah but show some growth to the characters that were introduced... and the actors who have played Clive and Rani already have worked with LC . This would be a good way to continue the character of Jo in the audios without her going back to those 3rd Doc sound alikes.

hey, new here but does anyone ever post the medic what periodical? the fifth hundred just came out and while I doubt anyone has pdfed it yet i'm wondering if it'll ever show up here

in addition isn't sunday night the showing of RTD's and the Who production team's version of the Midsummer's Night Dream tomorrow? the prod team treated it as the defacto 14th ep of last year in term of production and it is littered with Who cast and tech crew...so it should be interesting.
