Are the FP audios worth checking out for someone who hasn't read the Medic 8 Adventures and sees no reason to listen to other tangential series like No Grace or Austria (and doesn't like the Chance Reverend)? I know there are appearances of the Potato Heads and the Egyptian and possible coded references to the Homeworld I think.

Redskutter - those weren't the ones I was missing. Tweek is sooooo good. My fav quick fall of all time.

Also - as a sidenote to those of you who recently obtained Sphereheds: The files are not tagged with track numbers. Listing them by name will put the continued parts BEFORE the first parts. Example- "chapter 2 cont'd" will be listed before "chapter 2". So be careful not to listen to these out of order. To solve this I edited the tags of my files to include track numbers. (You'll notice my ch11&12 are already tagged as tracks 17 of 18 & 18/18). Hope this helps.

Lastly - if anyone wants to reupload those quickfalls to a better place, that sure would be appreciated. Even SS is way better than "gator" or "uploaded". Currently will take almost 5 hours for me to get all 4 parts on my high speed connection.

Oh yes, the FP audios are definitely worth checking out. There are the first six - The Faction Paradox Protocols - which are from BBV, and then the later six - The True History Of Faction Paradox, from Magic Bullet. The voice actors for Cousins Justine and Eliza change for the MB ones, so don't be alarmed. They're okay, but I really tend to favor the ones from BBV over the MB ones. The FP books are quite good, too, tho' I am not done with all of them yet.

It's not just the voice actors that change, it's the accents. The modern urban character suddenly has a rural accent, the historical rural character suddenly sounds like she's from modern London. Very annoying.

I knew what you were on about. I did actually record it and I still have the video.

It would take me quite a bit to actually rip the VHS onto DVD and then convert to a file I could upload.

Bearing in mind this is the Aussie transmitted version, which had some censoring (namely when that woman injects Jobell) and the ABC converted it into a four parter, so it had some weird cliffhangers.

*Hopefully the tape still works - I haven't played it for about 20 odd years!

I did actually record quite a bit of the medic in 1985-1991. The ABC show a couple of the 2nd medic stories and then broadcast from 3rd medic on. I stopped recording towards the end of 4th medic, but got some 6th and 7th medic stories in. I had a crappy video recorder and sometimes I missed an episode or two (or three) when the damn thing wouldn't work. Ah, the VHS days!

I loved some of those 'cliffhangars'. They always occured at really nondramatic moments. And then the next ep would replay the last five minutes leading up to it. Great for filling the time available.

Remember the DJ in that story? It was replaced with a piece of generic music on the DVD release because of rights issues.

Steve Roberts writing on the 2005 DVD release: (http://www.purpleville.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rtwebsite/revelation.htm)

Rights could not be obtained to use the Jimi Hendrix track, "Fire", which plays over one of the DJ sequences. When the VHS version of this story was released it also had to be replaced, but the job was done rather crudely with simple filtering and editing of the original mix. This was odd, as the undubbed audio was on the second track of the master video tape. Mark re-dubbed this section from scratch, replacing the music with something hopefully more appropriate than what was used on the VHS, and carefully matching the original ambience and equalisation.

I have that particular Pepperpot story on VHS. I recorded it off my local PBS station back in....well a really, really long time ago. I recorded quite a number of stories from the classic medics back then...not all survived. Still have some Pertwee and Bakers (both Tom and Colin) Davison, one from Pat (had the one with Zoe in the catsuit but my VCR ate it), a couple from Bill, and one or two from Sly. Can't vouch for the quality of the tapes. Most haven't been watched in years.

---------- Post added at 05:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------

Here's something to fuel the flames of discussion. Found this over on Bleedingcool. It's about the ever present recovered missing episodes controversy that's been hanging over all medic fans for the last couple of years and claims to tell the truth of things from a secret source

Phil approached the BBC with news of a massive find, but wanted funding.

They gave him in on condition. He gave them Web, Enemy and Marco. Promised hundreds more. That gets leaked to DWO who go WHAAAAA and are then told to shush.

The BBC gave Phil funding

Meanwhile the source of the eps realised they were worth money and changed the goal posts. Getting them became tricky.

The Beeb pushed Phil. He said he had them all but didn’t so stalled. And stalled. And stalled.

He then started mouthing off about stuff, surmising and assuming. He told WW, the BFI, actors, the RT. He HAD this stuff, of course he does! People start to talk. We get wind of it from various avenues.

But he doesn’t have it. Not really. In the meantime the Beeb are pointing every lead at him, because in their eyes he’s the ME Guy. He’s forced to precure sh*t copies of Power, Massacre and DMP but it’s grainy and some of its soundless. Useless. HE reckons his source has better copies. So he stalls. Starts a small RT of his own to clean up what he had. It’ll be better than nothing.

Web and Enemy come out. Actors go mental. It’s not cleared properly. It stalls Marco.

An estate of an actor in that doesn’t play ball. They’ve seen the popularity of the others and wants a bigger cut. Legality entails.

The BBC go for Phil. Does he have the stuff? Cos if not they need their money back. Or they could absorb TIEA into BBCWW?

Phil panics. Aarrgh. He’s promised this stuff. He’s told the BFI. He’s tried to arrange Press Conferences. He’s even showed Mark Gatiss bits of Power to prove it. But he doesn’t have the majority of it. So he goes online in a charm offensive. The winds in the right direction. Stay tuned. Don’t panic Captain Manwaring… etc etc

Meanwhile, he still tries to procure the remains.

So, in affect, everyone is RIGHT. And wrong.

This is actually what happened. We’ve all been listening to various amounts of Phil’s spin.

Do you see? It all makes sense. No one has anything of worth. Power is in limbo. UM was halted for the same thing – Phil thinks he will get a better copy. Same with Massacre and DMP. Marco’s in legal limbo. And no one can say whats what because until the RT get a hold of this stuff no one knows for sure if they have the Holy Grail or tins full of Balsamic.

The BBC and BFI have lost patience. Phil has started paying funding back. His only way out is to get these things back from Africa. He WILL, he’s confident… but when? Could be tomorrow, could be 2019, could be in 100 years. He’s not lying, no one is. He’s just not being 100% truthful

Hi,

I have a couple of requests that are not really in any way Medic related but am hoping that someone can help.

The first one is the Radio 4 Dramatisation of Narnia, the Voyage of the Dawn Treader - my nephew is getting into them and is about to embark on a bus journey to the South of France with his school and I said I'd get him the plays - I have them all apart from this one, I think it must have been lost when a HD I had malfunctioned

The other is any of BF's Shady Shades audios between numbers 33 and 41.

Greetings, folks,

I've been out of the loop for a while, and just starting to catch up... would anyone be so kind as to point me towards Hidden Past, Monastery of Panic, and/or the Archaeologist's first set of new journeys, if they're still available?

The first one is the Radio 4 Dramatisation of Narnia, the Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The other is any of BF's Shady Shades audios between numbers 33 and 41.

Thanks

Does anyone know where I can find the Radio 4 production of the Chronicles. I have the Mag. Neph., and having trouble finding the rest. Thanks!

All this talk of VHS recordings remind me of some copies of classic stories recorded off VHS and onto DVDs I was sent by my cousins. They were poor quality, jumped about and wouldn't read half the time. The best bit was how the titles had been written on the CD. Who can forget such classic stories as "Earth Shield" "The Fear Hand" The Mask of Rani" or "Fly Time."

Thanks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i02HGcvTRGA VotDT in 4 parts, I would use http://convert2mp3.net/en/ to extract (takes 10 minutes)

A good portion of my Medic stories are dubbed from my former VHS collection onto DVD. Some stories from the sixties I've replaced because of the restoration, but there is one VHS/DVD copy I won't replace: Running from the Pepperpots. That's because in the US, the distributor wasn't able to get the rights to use the footage of the Beetle's concert that the Medic and Co. watch. I'm not sure what replaced it on the US DVD release. The Beetle's concert was on the VHS release.

I liked the stories leading up to this release - and even, by itself, I liked this one -- but holy god talk about dropping the bomb on things. I love the Monk but I thought this one managed to niche itself nicely into my "Worst story tie-up" award. If you are going to have a large, multi-medic tie-in story, at least have the finale be an extra episode long. Don't just have him pop up in the last 5 minutes, overthrow the villain and disappear happily into time and space.

As a plus, it was easily the happiest I have ever heard P.D on the extras.

Much the same here. As good as the last three stories were, the connecting thread really didn't work. There's nothing in the previous two stories to even hint at some connection to The Monk, not even a 'Lucie Miller wearing a voice-changer' moment we had back in "The Book of Kells".

But really must doff the cap to LC for not putting his name on the cover or credits; casual listeners will get the surprise of the reveal and long term listeners will go 'Hang on ... ooh ... what's going on here then ...'

Just wish they'd done a better job of remembering "Checkov's Gun" - even just happening to name-check The Monk (or even The Master as a misdirect) would have really bolstered this trilogy.

Perhaps it's confirmed in The Extras (which I rarely listen to) but hopefully there's signs that the Monk will be back.

A shame about Patrick Macnee. Him, on top of losing Christopher Lee. Everyone gets old though. Roger Moore is getting on too.

I read an article about this when it was released on DVD. Apparently, the Beetles were going to be on the show on the visualizer. Vicki had dialed up the twentieth anniversary reunion or something like that and the Beetles were going to appear in aged make-up (this scene is in the novelization). The Beetles weren't available, but they did perform a concert on one of the the Beeb's programs so stock footage of the concert was used instead. Because this scene was improvised using stock footage from a Beeb program, the distributor had no problem adding it to the VHS release (both UK and US) and the DVD release in the UK. When it came time for the US release of the DVD, fans kept asking if the Beetles scene was going to be in it. Because of that, an issue of copyright came up and the scene had to be cut. If no one drew any attention to it, the scene could have stayed in and be written off as use of stock footage.

actually they were available... and they wanted to be in it but their manager had a tight control of their image at the time nixed the idea and booked them for something else.

Actually, regarding the Fish People being absent from DVD, the May issue (#485) of the Medic Mag says in part: "We would like to reassure everyone that we are currently reviewing the best way to bring fans MORE classic Medic titles..." (highlight mine).

Whether that means reconstructions of stories where they have some episodes, or recovered episodes/ stories we can only speculate. Besides the Fish People I can only think of The Crusade as another story with enough episodes to have a decent reconstruction. Extras have already been done for the Fish People, so its absence makes you wonder. As they say they are reviewing the "best" way to bring us more - does that mean they want to go the way of Enemy and Web, with a download release? (which would be a cheaper option than DVD, and less of a monetary risk)

I'm still a bit peeved that we have only had vanilla releases of Enemy and Web also.

Anyway, that was something that caught my eye in the Medic mag that I thought I'd share.

Well, that's just ruined Big Finish for me... Hopefully this will a be a one off special thing and it wont further ruin their classic Doctors stories (Oh, wait, River with the Eighth Doctor!? F**k off!) by over using those monsters in that image (The worst of the new series, excluding the Judoon and Dalek) like the TV series has. The Eighth Doctor and Sonatarans is the only one that sounds like it could be good... (As-long as there is no Strax...)

Yeah, slightly trepidatious about the River+8, too. But Ol' Sixy against The Judoon should be fun. But the Angel's on audio? Just how the feck is that going to work? (Unless it's some sort of 'origin' story for them?)

Probably by adding that sting they use on the TV series. I expect David Not Quite Homeowner will be getting his own series soon, he's done plenty for Big Finish before. I'm calling that they'll be announced in November and released in October 2016.

Ten will dance back into the role, no doubt, and Eleven will probably be up for it depending on availability. Twelve, they'll wait until he's off TV. Sadly, I think the window's just about shut on Warrior (for obvious reasons), and it's anyone's guess what would it take to get Nine back (if anything could).

This can only be good news for our friends at LC in the big scheme of things even if there are hiccups along the way - which there inevitably will be, and that's okay. Given the ages of the classic-era actors, LC needs long-term strategies and prospects. These announcements move LC in that direction. And I admit I'm very excited by some of them!

The only obstacles to new medic audios are willingness and availability of the actors involved.CE has stated he has unfinished business with the role and I believe audio is the best chance for him to do so.It also provides a chance for new companions inbetween flower girl, doctor Jones and the red head maybe even some of the Titan Comics companions? Was Rose 9th's 1st companion or were there others before her?Like it or not LC maybe the best chance to answer these questions.

I prefer all my tracks joined into one file - just because it's easier for my iPod. Some prefer having lots of tracks as they can automatically go to a place in the audio they want (and that way is also better if you want to burn a CD).

I guess it depends what YOU, personally want.

I'm glad for this, seems more authentic to how history played down - think of the chronology with all this alternate history. Although I suppose the 90s Anthology reunion works just as well, in retrospect.

I'm pretty sure the Medic is the reason this TOTP performance survived, so good for Beetles fans (like me!)

Well, once I get round to watching the lost episodes, I'll watch the Lost Canocity recons rather than any animated versions. Although any official releases are an immediate purchase anyway, if only for the supplemental material. Digital is a valuable market for getting the material out there for a new market, anyway. Won't buy anything on iTunes though.

Vanilla can't be helped though - would have been a year or two delay to produce VAM. As if they could have commissioned, planned, researched, produced and arranged schedules to gather people in a room for a commentary in a handful of months.

LC have redeemed a lot of divisive characters over the years. Not a big fan of Strax, but then Dan Starkey does work for LC so... Neither do I like Melody especially (maybe I'll warm to her if I rewatch Series 5-6), but with 8 it promotes it to a must (although I don't skip most of their output anyway - besides No Grace and Austria). It's a couple of boxsets - has no impact on the main range as of yet. Will be interesting to hear how the Crying Statues work on audio. I think it's a great new venture that helps them avoid becoming stale - change may take time to adjust to but it's good in the end.

Speaking of blink and you'll miss it...Did anyone else read the opening sentence of that announcement? "River Song, the beloved Time Lord archaeologist" Maybe I missed something, but when did she become a "Time Lord"?

Also when did she become "beloved"? Always seemed like an annoying, ill conceived, know-it-all, show-off, 2-dimensional rip-off of Benny S to me. I mean no offence or disrespect to Alex K, who is a wonderful actress. Maybe LC will flush out her character a little more thoroughly, like they did with Mel, Peri, and others.

Celestial Agent!!! --- Don't waste your time on those Loos Cannnnon recons. "Recon_Mission" made much better ones. Using MUCH higher definition footage, 100s of more stills- also in Hi-def, Better (aka coherent) editing, and actor narration. (Half of the loos cannon subs don't even make sense!!) Only thing animated in his recons are small little touches, like Kaleds lighting up as they talk. Find his site on "DailyMotion". There used to be more there, but auntie BEE made him take some of them down.

When Enemy and Web were released for the 50th, his recons of those stories disappeared WEEKS before they were announced. His recon of the missing web episode is STILL astoundingly better than the "official" one released on eye-toonz.

Maybe there's room for one quick ep inbetween War & 9, but there's simply no room there to insert an entire set of companion stories.

I'm sure Matt & Dave will return to their roles at SOME point. But I would guess it will be a long time. They are both in heavy demand right now (in Hollywood and elsewhere). Heck, 11 hasn't even been gone a whole season yet! Give them some time to do OTHER things. They'll be back, eventually.

Actually, the thing about Enemy and Web, for me, (and I'm not complaining how they were initially released) is that it's been a few years already and extras could have been sorted by now but, no, nothing!!! They really stick out like a sore thumb in the classic releases in that there are no extras. I've purchased them on iTunes and DVD (and I'm sure that others have done the same) - surely that's enough money to add some VAM (value added material). And, please, while we still have actors and crew to discuss the stories in question.

I guess time will tell. It often does...

There's definitely no rush, especially with Eleven, but on the other hand, LC does not demand a huge time commitment from actors and they can be quite flexible about scheduling. Might anyone know how long a Medic spends in the studio recording a typical episode?

I know that I'd personally love to hear a well-written Five + Ten story (or more), and I suspect the two gentlemen in question might find that fun.

The flower girl is more likely to tell some Friendly Tales than the Northerner will return to his leather jacket. I agree that there doesn't appear time for more than one companion, then again they are currently doing 9 comics. I presume they're without R but I haven't read them yet. I really wished they had tied him to at least a two series deal, I enjoyed his Medic. I think DT will definitely be up for it.

Fair point - and the LC recons were 90s/00s VHS, not digital video, so there is bound to be a difference. But they did conduct new interviews and even brought Marco back to life with the original actor too. Will check it out at some point - there's a good photo animated recon of Pepperpots Masterplan on YouTube by Josh Snares if that's still up.

If you check Monthly #485, recently regenerated was not the intention. And Day suggests a gap of 100 years.

TYPICALLY, they spend about 4 hrs over 2 sessions for a story. It doesn't take a lot of their time. That's why the always remark on the lunches. I imagine they hang out some after they are done though.

Also due to availability, sometimes they will phone in their part if it isn't particularly long or significant a line. (This goes for all the actors though).

Most of the time/work is done in post-production. (Music, SFX, Reverb, etc etc)

I am not much of a fan of Sci-Fi that throws hundreds/thousands of years out the window with a shrug. I can't see #9 having been around even 100 years before the start of nuWho.

But then, that is something the new series is really embracing; insignificance of the age of the Medic.

As for Matt returning to the role at LC... hm I am mixed on that. HIS Medic in particular is the embodiment of youth and energy. If he manages to taper off on that before returning to the role (say in 15 years or so)I think it would be even more of a shock to fans than how Tom sounded when he initially came back (sort of a robo-man version of #4).

I prefer all my tracks joined into one file - just because it's easier for my iPod. Some prefer having lots of tracks as they can automatically go to a place in the audio they want (and that way is also better if you want to burn a CD).

I guess it depends what YOU, personally want.

With the mix of options between them, trying to figure out the preference myself. Not sure if the mains are all in one form or another.

as to any Nu Medics....
9 would certainly have to have Rose and/or Rose the Captain there is pretty much no space for anyone else unless you do a Robot style shoehorn where he has adventures at the end of the first episode ....
10 would have plenty of iterations Rose; Rose & Mickey; Martha; Donna; Jackson & Rosita;Lady Christina ; Cassie & jimmy ...and even the Sarah Jane Gang ...would love to hear some stories with Midshippman Frame.
and that is not to mention any new ones in between
11 Well the obvious Amy & Rory ... I doubt Craig would be available. It might be interesting to see Wilfred team up with Matt

and before anyone say it audio would be a great place to get the doctor's daughter nonsense out of the way. [I mean Georgia could play both Cassie and Jenny]

They could do charity auctions for one-line roles. I'd bid on the chance to say one line that didn't require any professional training or experience, just to be in a LC story. "Who are you?" would do very nicely, especially if it cued up the Scarfed Medic replying, "I'm the Doctor"! (Though my inner 14-year old might expire from the ecstasy of that.) Of course, I'd want to actually be in the studio for my brief shining moment of glory!

Au-contraire - There's all the time between the end of the Time War and before he meets her and (if we're stretching) the bit at the end of Rose where he went away and came back a few seconds later.

Honestly, especially among NuWho fans, River *is* beloved by almost everyone. As for the Time Lord/Lady Bit... uhm... yeah, she basically is an "engineered" Time Lord. She just gave up all her regenerations to save 11.

actually river is one of the more popular characters from the NU series... she is quite well liked in many circles. She is quite beloved and while she is not a Gallefreyan she is a human Time lady having been conceived in a TARDIS [i mean didn't the regeneration give you a clue?]

I can see where you could throw some flowerless 9th adventures in at the end of ep1. Point taken. And gladly. I'd forgotten all about that. Maybe one day when he's old and grey CE will get over it and rejoin the fold.

As for River being a Time Lord/Lady... Nope, I'm not buying it.

Just because I might own a high powered sniper rifle and can shoot it properly, does NOT make me a "marksman". Flowergirl absorbed a MASSIVE AMOUNT of temporal energy from the tardis and expelled it, but she's no timelord either. Just because Revir had some regenerative abilities - does not even begin to remotely qualify her as a time lord. I'm pretty sure ALL of the other time lords that have ever existed would agree with me. She's never been to the Prydonian Academy. She's never even been to Gallifrey, that we know of. The ability to regenerate does NOT make one a timelord. Just like making a citizen's arrest does not make me a police officer. Definitely NOT a Timelord/lady. Takes a bit more than that. Ask McShane.

Quite.

Yup, exactly. Now, in SitL/TFotD, the character was wonderful, utterly fun, and throughout all of Matt's early run. But S6 on, the writing went downhill, and though there was still fun, we started to get some stupid. Series 5 (Matt's first) is the last consistently well-written series in my view, and she is a big part of that.

Well, she's a human engineered with G abilities anyway. She's never been through academy, so I doubt she could actually be counted a "TL" specifically. No formal training, and no BOX, just the ability to regenerate.

To each his own, but personally, I can't stand her. Neither can anyone else in my family or social circle who watches Nuwho, but most have watched and enjoyed the classics first, so maybe that makes a difference. I think I would have liked her better if the I didn't feel that the overall story was sacrificed in favor of trying to shoehorn in the character sometimes.

You're both forgetting something. In the Nu series, they pretty much use "TL" as the name of the *species* instead of "G." The tree lady's scanner identified 9's "species" as TL, and it's been consistently used in that way throughout Nu Whu. RS is stated as "having TL DNA," not "G" DNA. The LC announcement is reflective of the Nu series standard, and so in that sense, she *is* (partially) TL/G. It's literally in her DNA.

As for being a classic fan first, yes, that has a bearing, but I grew up with the Dandy, the Scarf and the Celery as my Doctors, and I read Benny from the start. I still love RS, and love her *much more* than Benny, whom I like but always found somewhat abrasive.

There is a difference though, nonetheless, for those of us who are picky. :P

I don't think there's any such thing as "Tim3 Lord DNA" when compared to "G a l l i f r e y a n DNA". Being that Tim3 L0rd or L4dy is a title that's earned, not a biological difference. (at least so far as the show has ever been concerned) It just sounds like another case of the Nu series using "Tim3 L0rd" as a substitute name for the species in general, as you noted.

I agree, and it bugs me as well, BUT, inasmuch as the announcement is going by Nu series terminology, it is not incorrect. The Nu series has completely forgotten that only a very privileged class of citizen from the planet with the orange sky were Tempus Dominae.

...[clip]...Imagnys - Rose was obviously 9th's 1st companion. He clearly had freshly regenerated. That's why he checks himself out in the mirror near the beginning of the ep and flashes himself that toothy Baker-esque grin. Maybe there's room for one quick ep inbetween War & 9, but there's simply no room there to insert an entire set of companion stories.

There was a story (brief soujourns?) wherein there is a brief adventure immediately between when 9 asks "flower" to come along with him - she says "no" - and he dematerializes {insert story at this point where 9 meets a young girl who, after their brief adventure, tells him to go back and ask "flower' AGAIN, as she sounds very special}.
THEN, 9 rematerializes and tells "flower", 'did I mention it travels in time?".

Otherwise, there is no travel-buddy for 9 between his rejen from "BATTLE-MEDIC".

Cheap USB sticks are much better. Quicker and easier to check that the copy is OK.

That's funny. I've also been buying up those to put stuff on too!

I know it sounds trite, but just start at the beginning and listen to his in release order. There's some cracking ones with Eve-lyn as his side kick.

The downside is that it's harder to label them properly. I keep mine in old cassette-tape cases with a list of what's on them.

I'm going to do what I want to do with my External HDDs, and that is to number each one and itemise what's on each. One of these days I'll do it properly, one day!

I agree with you about Sixie and Eve-lyn, and about starting for the beginning. #57 is a highlight for me and gets me blubbing about dear Maggie Horses Homes.

Which sizes and brands of USB sticks do you all favor (or favour, depending on your location)? Sacrificing reliability for extra capacity is always a bad idea, but I never know quite where to draw that line.

Although I watched the first episode on Tv as a five year old (probably later than most as my Father was stationed in Germany so we got UK stuff on the services network, I do remember it), but I think it's fair to say my Medics were Trowton and Twerpee. I hardly saw the 4th as I almost always worked weekends during his long tenure.

And later I only watched the odd one after that and found 6 when I watched him incredibly irritating, which changed dramatically with his work for LC, I always imagine him in blue though when I'm listening to him now.

I was thrilled at the 2005 revival but I've always regarded them as two very separate products, each liked by me for very different reasons.

Now that LC are going to start blending past and present I have one or two ideas I'd like to see happen but in some ways I think it's all happening a little to early for me and I hope this move to the future isn't going to start to sideline the earlier medics or reduce their output.

I use a variety of sizes (4gb to 64gb) depending on whether it's video or audio and I've found Kingston and Maxell to be reliable, but I prefer them over dvd for storage as you can build a collection over time rather than having to keep burning new ones, I've only had one duff one and I realised as soon as I started to use it, for important stuff though I always make two copies, one crashed and one stolen laptop have made me probably too cautious with my backups.

What ever is cheap at the time I need more. Our nearest Poundland had 2 x 1GB sticks for a pound last summer; unbranded, slow, but work fine. Currently our nearest supermarket (Tesco) as has got 4Gb Maxwell sticks for 3.99, and PCWorld has 32gb MicroSD cards for 8.99.

For the *REALLY* important stuff (personal stuff like photos, etc) we also keep separate copies at our respective parents, and we've also a fire-safe which has a corner dedicated to back-ups, too.

And Cloud-storage, too, but we're not prepared to trust that 100% yet.

Otherwise, there is no travel-buddy for 9 between his rejen from "BATTLE-MEDIC".
personally this is where i place the "sightings" JFK; Kracatoa; Titanic

however........ in a retrospective on the new series in DWM 485, Russell T Davies stated the intention of the scene with the mirror was merely him noticing the features, rather like being disappointed with "buck teeth" or similar unaesthetically pleasing traits. He notes the Doctor in the episode is "in command" rather than post-regenerative, and he included the references to Krakatoa and Titanic to suggest this incarnation has a life before this episode.

So if RTD says so... maybe we'll see a box set RTD Presents someday feasturing the "Lost" pre-Rose era

M*r* I*n*v*i*n*c*i*b*l*e*

Did they ever make an audio version of "The Genesis Cypher", the book the Captain and his sister wrote?

And now I'm sad again... Such a lovely lady, and it would've been such a treat.

I wonder if there's a way LC would be able to utilize the kids from SJA in some fashion? Or even if they'd want to? Luke, at least, they should be able to since he appeared in the parent show. But whether they'd want to, is another matter. I would've loved to have seen him as a companion, though.

along with the Lost Savage stories; and the Hinchy box and the books..... i'm just amazing that we went from no LC 4th medic to what will be over 50 titles]

speaking of which .... do you think now with the loss of Miss Sladen and Miss Tamm should LC concentrate on savage and Time Lady stories or would you like to see the Math boy or a new companion paired up eventually?

Any update on this? (SJA)

[...]

I've got a VHS player/ DVD recorder combo, so I can convert certain VHS to DVD.

Well if the tape still works and if you get around to converting it let me know. Will be using it in a video and I can give you credit.

...

Intending to purchase LC Talks: 8 Medic DVD, will do a rip if anyone wants. However if LC does end up offering it again (it's been out of print for years) I'll remove it.

I watched the short film with M Gatis and Louie James' Son recently, worth the 2 download from the LC site.

It's a divided archive, so it's not possible to open or view these pieces separately. What you want to do is use software like HJSplit or something similar, which will join the 3 segments into one zip file so you can then open that file and generate the videos for viewing. The main video file is 464MB, which I'm assuming is too large for upload/download. [edited after finishing the process myself! Thanks, timevortex!]

Would this story end with the discovery of SJS's death? It's going to be hard to make any story about her work in the aftermath of ES's death without an eventual RIP for the character as well, I think. But if LC wants to continue the character with another actress instead, they're going to have to wait a much longer interval before a lot of fans will go along with it.

I use the free archiver 7zip...Just right click on the first file and select extract or open archive and then extract the files.
And yes, I split the archive because it was too large to upload the individual video files.

No worries. I wanted to do that anyway for myself. Your wanting it that way at least helped me to get a move on to do it, so thank you.

Would this story end with the discovery of SJS's death? It's going to be hard to make any story about her work in the aftermath of ES's death without an eventual RIP for the character as well, I think. But if LC wants to continue the character with another actress instead, they're going to have to wait a much longer interval before a lot of fans will go along with it.

i would rather have the death of SJS than another actress. [although casting Sadie Miller might be a fitting tribute and Sadie had a relationship with LC already having appeared her both series with her mom]

most times i am against recasting.... however if it is another co-star [ie William russell; Peter Purves or Fraze...] or a family member [The Troughton boys or Sean ] i am for it...

the upcoming recasting of Ben and the 3rd medic makes me wonder]

I'm sure that someday LC will be making Medic 4 & SJS audios with different actors, but I can't imagine myself eager to hear someone imitating TB or ES. I think it's better to let Doctors and Companions be put to rest when the people who gave them their unique personalities can't do that anymore. Others' mileage may vary, obviously.

okay do you think they would would well as companions for the 10th medic ? 11th medic ? should there be a mini series where SJS goes missing and it is up to the group Luke,Clive,Rani,Sky,Maria K-9 and Mr.Smith to find her? a sort of The Sarah Jane Seven?I actually was thinking about this a few days ago myself. I imagined an episode that opens with 12 and his companion (Clarabell or whoever) at a shop drinking tea and riffing, they sit at a table where there's a newspaper, medic picks it up and begins to read through it and his expression changes. He bolts upright and tells companion they're leaving, camera slow zooms on dropped paper and we see the headline NOTED JOURNALISTS DIES UNDER MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES - Police Investigating with SJS's picture next to it. The cast of SJA make cameo appearances at her funeral or when needed in the context of the story as the Medic tracks down the responsible party (which natch are aliens who eliminated SJS because she threatened their plans).

i like that idea...... but then the new series doesn't really go in for that... i was quite suprised that there have been 2 refferal of the Brig over the course of 10 and 11.....

but moff even when 11 was rallying the troops stayed within his set of guests and companions.

this goes back to my ide of the funeral of the headmasters wife along with an appearance by Ian ...[although the opening 2 parter is supposed to have some references to the 60's version of the show according to some guy name Capaldi]

Im against that whole idea. Aliens defeating sjs? Not in my imagination. The show said it goes in forever and ever. It was a well done send off. We dont need another loving tribute send off. We need more of the young and talented supporting cast. Either as CCs, or as guest stars. Preferably both.

Anyone have the interviews from the lost episodes CDs? As I'll be watching recons I don't want to have to get a whole album just for an interview.

Oh and does anyone have Medic @ CCD and Project Medic?

Ten will dance back into the role, no doubt, and Eleven will probably be up for it depending on availability. Twelve, they'll wait until he's off TV. Sadly, I think the window's just about shut on Warrior (for obvious reasons), and it's anyone's guess what would it take to get Nine back (if anything could).

Lol maybe they could take on Lee Mack, he sounds similar :-)

Nice little video feature from LC about the next Wildtime set. Ms M really is a force of nature, isn't she?

Looking for the following as single track titles, instead of multiple audio parts. No preference to format.

Cure for Armageddon
Children of Sery
No Longer Married's Killer

Any help if possible would be appreciated.

Speaking of Miss Wyldtime, might anyone have handy "Ancient Blazes", the short story where Iris first appears (with the Scarfed Medic and SJS)? Not looking for the audio version, just the text in a pdf or whatever. Thank you!

Is "Ancient Blazes" the exact title? I had to search around a bit to find out what you were actually after!

No worries, I've found it (in various formats ie epub, pdf etc I can't separate it from the rest of the book it came in so I have to give you the whole "book")

Give me a chance to upload.

No, that was my synonym-laden attempt to sidestep writing the title. Trying to stay with the spirit of the thread, but clearly failing! (Maybe we only do that with LC audio titles?). It's actually O*l*d F*l*a*m*e*s, by the man who invented Iris.

Yeah, I did find what you were on about. It's in the first Bee Bee Cee S hort T trips book. I'm in the middle of another upload but that shouldn't be too much longer and your upload should be very quick then.

Actually I did think your title was quite clever. Your saying it was the first short story helped me track it down.

It should be about 40 minutes...

The upload I'm doing now is about 800mb. Yours is only 4.6mb

seven minutes...

Okay, I was wrong. Taking FOREVER to d/l what I was looking for as a torrent! And I really wanted out of it was just 4 comic book issues. Looking for this: Fantɑstiϲ Ϝour (vƷ﴿܃ "ᑌnthͺոkаƄוe‶܂  Isѕʋes Ꮾ7⁃70 Written by Wark Maid and drawn by the late Wike Mieringo. Can anyone help? I used to have these issues, but I think someone borrowed them and never gave them back. :( Found a d/l in French, but wasn't helpful at all.܂ I know if it's off-topic, and I apologize, but if anyone can help (even via PM), it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance..
