MJS,

If you have VLC just select "Media" from the menu bar, then "Convert/Save" and select the file you need to convert . You can select the file format (MP3, WAV, etc) and give the converted file a name, and VOILA, you have a file that will play in the other normal players.
MJS If you are still having issues please let us know and Ill stick a fresh mp3 copy up from my CD.

am i the only one who thought the game of thrones finale was anticlimactic?

Watching it later today.

But "anti-climatic" (bar last week) sort of sums up this season for me.

The whole thing still looks stunning and the cast are incredible, but having so many different characters to keep track of in such a short time means that the separate strands haven't had sufficient time to properly be explored. (I've not the read the books, but apparently source material for this season suffers a similar issue. 'Extended Travelogue' seems to sum it up)

They really need to consider extending the seasons to about 14 or so episodes.

Tbh, after last week I think anything would be anticlimactic. My main gripe is the sheer number of characters - you just learn their names and they get killed off :(

A friend of mine has read the books and said that GRRM has no problem killing characters off - talk about understatement!

It's a hard series to make, in the time allowed for the money on hand.

Reducing?? They'll have to consider focusing on less characters then, otherwise each thread is going to be "blink and you'll miss it"

From purely a TV viewers perspective, they could honestly drop/hurry-up the Daenerys plot as it always feels so disconnected from what's happening elsewhere.

Hi.

I finally finished the epub conversion of all the NA and MA books.
Because I also found out how to create proper curly quotes (outer inner quote) instead of plain ascii quotes ('outer "inner" quote') with a script called SmartyPants, I have also reworked all the previous releases. They really look much better that way. It also allowed to uses additional regexes to locate and fix many more formatting errors.
The D*E*C*A*L*O*G Archive does now also contain the three BBC S*h*o*r*t**T*r*i*p*s and the standalone MA story W*h*o**K*i*l*l*e*d**K*e*n*n*e*d*y.
Please note that NA 73 and 78 are available for purchase as original ebooks. It you really want to read them, you should consider buying them.

Many thanks to the original people who scanned and OCRed all the books to create the PDF files which I used as source.

It looks disconnected, but not having read the books, I suspect that her story line will become a lot more important as the series goes on. Personally I like the pace of the show; when something like last week happens - it reallystands out.

Also, mentioning Daenerys - what happened to the rest of the Dothraki? Did I miss something or have they just vanished?

Oddly enough I was just wondering that as this weeks come to a close. And I agree about the slight anti-climatic feel after last week.

Thoughts ...

Emilia Clarke looked stunning in that last scene.

Pacing wise ... it feels like last week should have been the finale, and this one the start of S4 as there was a lot of reminding the audience what the heck was going on.

The scene outside the city with Daenerys was amazing, but The Red Wedding would have definitely served as a proper shock end to the season.

If she keeps on like this Maise Williams (Arya) is going to grow up to be one hell of an amazing actress. The bit with the camp fire? Few young actors could really pull that off well, but she hit it out the park. Truly stunning.

I would gather it would be a few more years yet....
would love to see a load of audios post-Donna [ not to keen to revisit anything prior to that. i.e. no Rose,Donna and Martha Stories] [however knowing Barrowman he would jump at a chance to do some more Captain jack... i mean the man still has 2 hours a day to fill]

The Khalasar follows the Khal, so when Drogo died, they split off into smaller hordes with new Khals. Daenerys was left mostly with the injured and the old, the slaves, and Drogo's 3 bloodriders who had the duty of escorting her back to join the Dosh Khaleen (the ex-Khaleesi seers of Vaes Dothrak who would've overseen the whole heart-eating ritual we saw in Season 1).

So yes, they just vanished. That's why Dany had to take a boring walk through the desert to Qarth in Season 2 - going any other direction would likely have resulted in meeting and being annihilated by another khalasar.

Also at least in the Show they were killed the Wizards of Qarth. (Just so you know that didn't happen in the books) And they did show some of them on boats, getting sick and what not. So they're not all dead, just very underutilized.

GoT: Worst season ending ever. I have read the books (ok, I'm only halfway through five) and I could think of four different ending shots which would have been just as shocking as the red wedding. They fell well short of the third books ending but I felt that book four was padded out so maybe we'll play catch up maybe not. However, that also means that the four incredibly shocking moments from the final chapters of book three will be spread across the whole season. I wouldn't be surprised if season four, reduced or not, finishes book three.

While it does seem that the Daenerys storyline is somewhat boring and far and away, remember that one day she will return to Westeros with three grown dragons and start conquering. That's all her ancestor needed three hundred years ago.

Just spent a lovely weekend with Gary Russell who has been in Toronto since Friday. At dinner Saturday night we spoke about many of his LC memories. We're heading out shopping for the afternoon today; so tempted to ask him how Home Planet will end, but I don't want to be spoiled!

He is a delightful man. A bit further into continuity than is quite my taste, but he put in a good word that I credit to getting my art some exposure.

Exactly. It was an especially odd choice of final scene; narratively and dramatically, it accomplishes nothing (she'd already won, and therefore the slaves' freedom was assured already), and the fact that it's so unrelated to everything else from the season (especially the last two episodes) meant that it felt like the final number was being sung by the guest soloist as opposed to the whole cast. Very odd choice.

Oh, I understand the point of the scene. But for the capping moment of the season? I can't help feeling they should have gone with something representative of the Starks or the Lannisters, given how separate her story was. By making her story the final image of the season it places her story (and her arc) as more important than the other characters, and I don't think it has been this season. She may have grown in strength this season, but no more so than last season or the season before, and she hasn't actually developed as a character very much this season either.

Not through any fault of the writing or the performances, her story has been one of the least engaging this season, and to finish on that (especially when the scene accomplishes so much less than, say, her surviving the flames in the first season or her visions of Drogo last season) seems very undramatic.

They've made some curious choices in the past like that (for example, giving Vienna Salavatori a spin-off series before her debut was even released). I guess they choose what characters to return to depending on who they enjoy working with.

I haven't heard any of Flip's stories (besides The Crimes of Thomas Brewster), is she any good as a companion?

To be fair, I think that she was parachuted into her first three full stories as no-one else was available (I understand that Maggie Stables hasn't been too well the last few years?) so the character ends up being fairly generic 'Lucie-Lite' with very little development or personality. That's no slight to the actress who does a fair job with the material.

Hopefully if these three have been 'custom written' she, the character, may well improve.

So her original run of three are, and I mean this in a good way, run of the mill.

Aha, thank you. I will check them out at some point, possibly when the next batch are released (so I can run through them all as a season; it's my preferred method). Presuming they'd be the opening trilogy of 2014?

I'm also going on their release pattern of 6 trilogy, 5 trilogy, 7 trilogy, special trilogy, special release, but I suppose that could change. Do we have any word on a follow up to Dark Eyes?

Exactly my thoughts too. I love hearing him, and while Dark Eyes had its flaws it's just great to hear him active. I wonder if we'll get any more of him and Mary, or even some with Samson and Gemma?

Actually, scrap that. I want to hear him with Fitz again. Let's hear him with some of the novel companions, maybe even in more adaptations (like Love and War)?

Me too. I love everything about 8. My favourite Doctor and I never get bored of him.

But I let myself get far too excited last year when reading DWM and they spoke about their plans and how big they were and regular box sets. I wouldn't call a years gap, regular.

But my own fault for believing them. I will be happy when we get something.

I can be happy about getting more but disappointed at the same time, we do pay for the stories so I am allowed to not just be blindly grateful.

Can never really make my mind up about DEyes.

It's not really a bad story, per-se, but it doesn't work for me as a direct continuation from LM/TTD. It's just too much of a co-incidence for him to have to tackle the pepperpots straight away so it fails as a drama in that way. It's not very satisfying in that respect.

Molly wasn't a bad character, but the 'Dark Eyes' bit felt very heavy handed.

The second CD felt like padding.

But it wasn't a terrible set, but I just kept thinking that it would have been better set at another point in his history, and that it should have either lost or gained a CD.

I was a big Dark Eyes fan, I agree about the second CD but loved the rest of it. The Dark Eyes part better not just mean Molly or we are in for four boxsets just about her and I really want them to be episodes like the 1-4 series and not just Molly and the Daleks.

But overall, I was impressed.

Judging by the at least developer's title it will more than likely be a sequel to dark eyes. Which now that we have JH maybe actual ninth doc floating around, we may get to finally see a regeneration scene in some regard.

A sequel is expected, and hoped for in a way. I just hope they meant it that Molly is not all that Dark Eyes means.

I did love Molly though, and laughed a lot at the morons on Facebook saying that they don't know any Irish people who say the things she did. Erm, could be something to do with her not being from 2012!!!

I think the New Series fans forget that the doctor had a habit of picking up aliens, robots, and people from time periods not 'modern' for lack of a better term. Yes it did happen but I think it was a pretty even split between 'modern' and other.

I personally loved Molly. Being an American descendant of Irish immigrants, it was awesome to finally have some Irish blood in the TARDIS. Or should I say "Tardy-box"? *snickers* Anyway, she was really smart and funny and I think really helped Eight try to come to grips with Lucie's death. Even if in doing so she's also made him realize that he's pretty much at war with the Pepperpots, and that it won't end well...

Controversial comment time. Mary is my favourite 8th Doctor companion. I think their dynamic is much more interesting than the other companions.

Charlie Pollard's companion was played to death and was so filled with angst I lost hope towards the end of her run.
C'rizz may of have stood a chance if the material he was given was better. it doesnt help that majority of his stories are in the TEDIOUS alternative universe arc which I had to stop listening to as I would be on suicide watch now if I had finished the tedium.
Lucie Miller was good - Sheridan's performance completely changed my view of the actress who I had always thought was an overacting ladette due to the dire Two Pints show - but I thought the whole storming off post-Zygon story and coming back nonsense was a bit 'meh' to be honest.
Molly O'Irish in Dark Eyes was nothing special to be honest. Though I still think there is scope for her to continue and like others I did find the "Tardy Box" stuff quite funny

I quite liked Benny with 8th in Company of Friends as well...

I pretty much disagree on all these points, lol. Personal taste keeps them in business!

Charley - I loved her, one of my favourite companions. I love how far she came from that stupid moment of loving him to bouncing back to old Charley again.

C'rizz - I never liked him. Not one bit. But I enjoyed the DU arc, a nice break from the usual.

Molly O'Sullivan - Really enjoyed her, I just want her to stay a companion and not a Steven Moffat style mystery taking over the whole 8th Doctor for the foreseeable future.

Lucie Miller - Good? Good? Outstanding. An excellent companion all the way through. And considering you couldn't even get to the end of a few episodes set in an alternative universe without mentioning suicide, I hardly think you can play down how Lucie would feel after all the Aunty Pat/Zygon stuff.

Not sure your post was controversial but there seems to be a lot you don't like. I guess McGann keeps people coming back no matter what.

I did enjoy her with 6, but it was about Charley and 8th together for me. Her and 6 were a great pairing and had she not already been with 8 then I would have loved it.

I believe what NB says about as much as I believe Moff. So I doubt Charlie will ever have a spin off. But I would have taken it over Vienna. Actually, I would love it to happen!

Hi all - Bulletzen and Goldie have beat me to the punch this month with the monthly releases. Thank you both so much!!!

I am getting "Gr*ace**less" when it comes out, so I'll do the box set this month (for whoever wants it - opinion on this board seems to be divided!)

By the way, I received a C&D for last month's monthlies at 4shared, so I'm going to be careful about how long I leave new stuff up in the future. First one I've received since the big Mediafire blitz a few month ago. Just a heads up to Bulletzen, Goldie, and whoever else is posting new stuff. I had removed all tags, but they still got me - so be aware.

Wouldn't mind that myself thanks.

As for the C&D notice, I wouldn't leave the stories up for more than 48 hours. Suspect your link has been posted elsewhere :(

C'rizz had a phenomenal concept... very poorly realised, unfortunately. It was a great pity, since it did continually feel like the stories would be better with just 8 and Charly again. I felt Charly's story played out expertly, from her paradox to her departure from 8 to her heartbreaking decision with 6. I'm not sure if I want her to come back from that... but I'm looking forward to hearing her again in the anniversary special.

As I said, I was late to the party - after all it was sleepy time here in Oz, so I missed Goldie's posts. Seems a lot of us did! (well, at least 10 Medics of us!)

I'm guessing it was to show the sheer scale of what she'd done. Remember when the series started it was her and her brother.

Also - every series so far has ended with shots of the dragons being all majestic and dragon-y, so there is that... ;)

---------- Post added at 06:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------

A good run of double CDs would go down well with me.

Agreed on all points, and no pepperpots next time! And I'm happy to have more Molly as long as she stops calling it a bloody "Tardy-Box"!!! Dunno why, but seemingly unlike everyone else, that really got on my tits by the end. I DID like her calling cheekily calling him "THE Doctor" though...

With the "Tardy-box" thing, I couldn't decide if it was written as her deliberately getting it wrong to wind him up, or a Briggs' heavy-handed "I'm Oirish You Know, Begorrah!!!"

I try to give the benefit of the doubt and go for the former.

But as a listener it go damn annoying after a while.

I think it was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. I thought it was funny at first, but rapidly more annoying as the story went on.

I have to admit that I wasn't keen on the story at first, but liked it more the second time round but just wished they could have come up with a different villain - as much as I love the pepperpots, I'm getting sick to the back teeth of them atm.

I don't really agree with LC. When they turn up on tv, it's almost just to fill out contractual agreements, they never do anything interesting with them, but I've never listened to a Briggs pepperpot story that hasn't done something fun with them.

Strangely, with all this talk I'm now thinking of going back and re-listening to all the Pepperpot Empire tales. Does anyone know if the main range stories under the same title (Apokalips Elle-meant, etc) are technically a part of it, and if so, where do they fit in?

There are actual crossovers with the early episodes in the main range where the doctor bumps against the edges of the Dalek Empire, and then much later there's a story where Kalendorf bumps into 7.

iirc, the first couple just set the stage. One explains how the pepperpots end up in the Sarithia Galaxy; another explains how the the emperor and supreme come to understand humans. Neither play any large part in the main story-line.

tbh, even the first two have so little to do with the main story, the Empire title is a little misleading. I've no idea which one, but apparently one of the Short Trips is set during the Empire story. I've never listened to the Short Trips, so I can't swear to this tho.

There's a book of Short Trips set in the Empire story, is that what you mean? Alternatively, Re_turn of the Da_leks is a 7 story set during the series, and Mus_eum P_eace is a prose short trip of which there is an audio reading, which has 8 and is set after the first two DE series.

It's great, isn't it? I think that's one of the best Cyborgpeople stories in ANY medium. And it shows what they could do if they went back and did an earlier iteration of them - how scary they could be.

You're certainly right there. On TV they seem to rely more on the "Boo" type scares, but the Cyborgpeople can be so much "scarier" if done with the more psychological aspect. A really top notch audiodrama. Any other recommendations?

Some thoughts on the long-awaited arrival of Levene to BF ...

Not too bad, but I would have mentally marked it higher had it not been for the following ... which are possibly a bit spoilery ....

Very disappointing that with this being the first time we've heard Benton that he's almost, but not quite, playing second-fiddle to the character Margery Phipps. Levene feels oddly underused in this.

The comedy ... oh dear ... Now I normally LOVE what Bernard and Morris do for The Scary-Friers, but it just felt so utterly out of place for this. The whole joke/idea/concept/what-ever behind Planet Kettering just felt ... wrong. Just not funny. I hate to say it, but I think they just recycled an idea that they found they couldn't use for The Scary-Friers.

I would have accepted this story had he done more, but as a first outing he should have been front and centre.

What he, and the character, needed was a Benton version of "Old Soldiers."

Those aside - It's great to hear John Levene. Not a bad performance after so many years away. Assuming that he's going to do more and get more audio experience under his belt I hope we can expect some good stuff coming from his with the right stories.

Thank you all for your best wishes!

Had to upload the Friends of the Medic story in 2 parts - using Mediafire again and they won't let anything above 200 Mb.

Just remember, gang, I'll probably take these links down in 2 or 3 days, as I got rumbled by 4shared for the monthlies last month: I'd obviously left the links up too long.

So here it is - "Friends of the Medic - Assembly of Conflict".

Also, I'm not totally sure if the link I posted a few minutes back for the 4th Medic story is working properly. If you're having problems, try this one:

Guys I have no idea what happened to my links , I'm shut out of se*nd*s*pa*ce I'm so sorry.

Sounds like you were unlucky enough to get sprung on your first attempt, but I'm really not surprised. You've got to at least rename the files to something a little harder to track, and preferably remove the id3 tags - it's not foolproof but it makes it harder for them to identify the files unless someone reports you. ;)

A big thanks to everyone who has upped this months releases, you're all awesome :)

I am in a constant swoon listening to Mary, and had to smile when David pronounced her characters name so wrong.

Levene's accent has changed. He used to be so rough, working class, which made Mike Yates seem even more like a toffy old school tie.

Blake's seven has it's own thread.

However it seems, from reading, that one of the main contributors was "approached" and told to cease and desist.

He is not my favorite actor in the world. Hope he's off the list quick. i liked the idea of Ben Daniels or maybe even Jamie Bamber from Battle-star. Older than Smith but younger than Hurt

Another actor who I hope never even hits the MAYBE list is Julian Rhind-Tutt. Jesus that guy gets on my nerves and if he was cast I would find watching the show seriously difficult... God, I hope this doesn't come back and bite me in the bum!!!

F*cking can't STAND Addison.

He's a) not funny and b) a complete ego-centric TW*T of the highest order.

Saw him during a recording of Mock The Week and he gets in such a strop when he's not 'the winner' of some made-up round with arbitrary scoring system of at least one round.

Not the biggest Rhind-Tutt fan, either, but I think he'd probably do the role pretty well. He's one of the few actors that can do a decent balance between drama and comedy when needs be.

Of his peers, though, I'd prefer Stephen Mangan.

I moved abroad a few years ago so I miss certain shows and certain performers too, now. In all fairness, casting a new Doc is not a job I'd like. I used to have all sorts of ideas of who would work and who wouldn't. I used to favour Rufus Sewell as an outsider's choice, someone unexpected who is a brilliant character actor and has the requisite eccentric qualities (he's probably considered too old now at 45). But these days I feel sort of removed from it all - kind of a que sera sera feeling. It'll be whoever they decide upon, almost no point in speculating. You have to kind of be able to accept the person in the part, don't you? As much as I love 9 (the actor) I always had trouble accepting him in the part. I knew both 10 and 11 from previous roles and broadly approved. I'm not sure I expect to be so lucky this time!

Yeah, there's a lot of actors I'd like to see in the role, but at the end of the day it's down to Moff and the beeb. It won't matter who is chosen, people will be unhappy with the choice. Of the nuWho Docs, I'd only heard of CE before. Loved DT in the role but was glad he left before he overstayed his welcome. Still not 100% certain on MS even after all this time - but will be sorry to see him go and just wish he'd had more of a chance to shine.

I could go with that. He's great in Lewis, and has a certain quirky quality that'd be perfect for the role.

Completely agree with that assessment - was unnaturally overjoyed to know that DT would be back for the 50th. I like MS overall but it feels like he's leaving before the shoes properly fit him. Or before he's amassesd enough truly classic moments to be remembered by me with quite the same affection.

I don't think he's 'left field', he'd be brilliant in the role. He's got that slightly unworldly, patrician quality that would really work.
My truely left field choice would be Allison Scagliotti (Claudia in Warehouse 13)!

And the results are in on the Reg poll:
