thanks for all the posts

just want to take a quick poll tho - i seem to be in the minority that prefers the split mp3 tracks. (not that i want anything reposted that is) but it seems people prefer the single all in one mp3/m4b files. why is that?

Split mp3 tracks are my preference, if there's an option, but I'm grateful for anything that people are kind enough to upload :)

It is not exactly invite only because as guy says we don't approach you. However we don't just allow all in, its mostly for those who have contributed here for a while (not necessarily with files) and interact well etc. We try to avoid trouble. Would make more sense as a cross-over than the xmas one with The Great De(f/t)ective. The logic+science world of the chap in the silly hat and the magic+spirits world of the painted fellow really didn't gel together very well at all, IMHO.

It's not really a secret, it's just another forum that was set up as a backup for here. Every month or so, the shrine closes for a few days while the begging bowl is passed around and DrWho001 set it up just in case this place closed for good.

After the recent unpleasantness around here, however, quite a few regular posters from here headed over there permanently because there is more control over membership than we have here. It's NOT an invite only place and it's not a clique - it's an open forum where the mods have the right to refuse entry (but that happens very rarely).

@Redskutter - does this Frazer make Baked Beans in his spare time ;)

Ouch.

My sympathies.

I try and keep 'spares' - when I hit the 'running out' paper I put that pack in a coat pocket, drawer, or generic-somewhere before starting a new pack.

Which is all well and good until you find your self on a mile and a half walk back from the pub and you realise you've no papers on you ...

RIP Steve Moore, author of some of the early DW comic strips in Doctor Who Weekly and Monthly, whose contribution undoubtedly helped to make the magazine an ongoing success. He also created or co-created Abslom Daak and the Kroton comic strips, and much excellent non-DW related material for 2000 AD and other comics. I heard. :( I remember reading his work when I was a kid. He was one of those quietly brilliant types with both eclectic tastes and appearances. I think his benign influence on British comics, certainly on his contemporaries like Alan Moore, Steve Parkhouse, Steve Dillon, Dave Lloyd and the like was great and underestimated. For anyone that wants it here is Tales from the Sidrat Vol 1, I haven’t had time to do anything with it yet so the folders are a bit messy in layout but the sound quality is very good, only 128kbps but far superior to all the other torrents that contain these stories.

Just unpack all the Individual stories and place them back in the folder that’s titled Audio in the main folder and that’s how they were originally placed when I downloaded them.

Thanks to Redskutter for providing the original link.

Thanks lokisph, I managed to find good quality copys of all the audiobooks that are on volume 2, so I'm happy with that. I think I just about have everything now, but thanks again for the offer :)

Just a quick reminder guys, I'll be taking volume 1 down in 24 hours, so anyone that wants it best get it now.

Adrik is getting a box set.

Turlo didn't get a box set!

Who is the bigger fanfavourite, or did the blokes in marketing just drop the ball when Mark signed up?

A turlough, or turlach, is a unique type of disappearing lake found mostly in limestone areas of Ireland, west of the River Shannon. The name comes from the Irish "tuar", meaning dry, with the suffix "lach", meaning a place (in an abstract sense). The "lach" suffix is often mistakenly spelled and/or thought to refer to the word "loch", the Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Scots word for lake. They are found in Irish karst (exposed limestone) areas.

The more you know.

I keep saying I don't want to discuss the other place but some people are making it hard not to.

So this is a general post and not aimed at anyone in particular.

I have said as such it is not exclusive but due to wanting to keep anything posted active we don't allow everyone in. People think if they just find out the address they are in. They aren't.

If someone that is on that forum sends me a message and says hey I think so and so would be good for the forum 99% of the time I say cool go ahead and invite them. We don't want drama or arguments in there.

If someone feels they have been ignored for asking then I apologise, however I am not going to message people just to say I am not going to send you an invite because for example I don't feel you have been here long enough or I think you might have a go at people.

A quick request to see if anyone has an MP3 or whatever of an autobiography of a certain Brigadoon... Not sure whether the chatty version is from either his first or second attempt at an auto biog, but it was rather good, and I seem to have mislaid mine own.

In return, should anyone want to hear the autobiog of the Journalist companion, or the Adprick one, give me a reasonably loud shout and I'll oblige ASAP.

@Waterboat: You asked about how to get an invite and if you bothered to read back, it's been explained several times. As for people mocking you - you really need to grow a thicker skin if you took offense at Looshkin & Jamdoggy's posts. Given the way you spat the dummy and started the abuse 'cos you didn't get an instant invite, do you really expect one now?

You wish people would shut up about the other place? It looks like you were the only one who actually brought it up!

I have to agree with others here, Waterboat, you haven't been here long, but in that time, appear to have upset, offended, angered or alienated almost every other member - here's a history of your posts:1st Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2592723/?highlight=#post2592723): Request for audios. OK, it is an audio thread, but it's give-and-take here - it helps if you share back sometime.
2nd Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2597050/?highlight=#post2597050): Rude and insulting
3rd Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2597102/?highlight=#post2597102): Rude and insulting
4th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2597691/?highlight=#post2597691): Very rude and insulting
5th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598435/?highlight=#post2598435): Better - what we are here for, to discuss DW
6th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598724/?highlight=#post2598724): Also fine
7th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598834/?highlight=#post2598834): Answering a question about your previous post. Good discussion.
8th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598894/?highlight=#post2598894): Nothing wrong here, continuing discussion.
9th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598903/?highlight=#post2598903): A little abrupt, but nothing wrong here.
10th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598910/?highlight=#post2598910): Aggressive. You seemed to take offense at a valid reply to your post, and over-react.
11th post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598921/?highlight=#post2598921): Back on track, discussing Who in a non-aggressive manner.
12th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2598928/?highlight=#post2598928): Following your 10th post, someone asked "Please try and keep it civil. Thank you." - you replied by calling them "police mother".
13th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2599004/?highlight=#post2599004): When it's pointed out to you that your posts are starting to offend people, you seem to ignore the requests for calm and give a sarcastic reply. This put me, and other regulars, on edge, expecting it to escalate as such things had in recent history.
14th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2599457/?highlight=#post2599457): A nice reply, showing the depth of your DW knowledge.
15th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2599617/?highlight=#post2599617): Another nice reply.
16th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2617255/?highlight=#post2617255): Short (one word) reply, but nothing wrong with it.
17th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2625409/?highlight=#post2625409): Asking about a 'secret place'. It had been mentioned on the previous page that there was a forum set up in case this one went offline - not secret exactly, but had become a place to get away from any drama here.
18th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2627692/?highlight=#post2627692): Double-post, both again asking "where is this secret place and how does one get an invite?"
19th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2627847/?highlight=#post2627847): Aggressive and offensive response to a light-hearted post, with bad language.
20th Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2627917/?highlight=#post2627917): Wow! I'm lost for words - this is a full-on temper tantrum. And you have the audacity to tell someone else to "grow the f*** up".
21st Post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-audio-drama-thread-85235-post2627934/?highlight=#post2627934): Now I'm seriously concerned about your mental health. How can one person get so angry and aggressive to the point where they lose the ability to type, over a forum invite...?

There is a reason that the 'other place' is invite only. People who are offensive, rude or pushy simply don't get invited, in order to keep harmony on the forum. The only person going on about it is you. Being pushy and aggressive simply makes you look like a neurotic copyright-hunter, or a bully, and that simply ain't gonna get you anywhere.

My previous post was light-hearted, not flippant or an attempt to upset you. I have no say whether you get in or not, so I couldn't comment on it. Your post just made me think of that particular meme, so I put it here.

I recently stayed away from these forums for many months because of people behaving the way that you are. I don't want to have to stop coming here because I get offended by the posts, so please, calm down. [/rant]

Hi sorry to be a pain but I have searched up and down, left and right for the dark shadows companion audiobook to no avail. Could one of you lovely people help at all? Thank you .

I spent a while looking for it since you requested the book.

The Companion is not online, or it's hidden quite well, which is true of most of the ds range, and also that bloody Johnny Depp movie screws up most of the searches I make since it seems to have muddied up the internet.

Maybe what you want might show up incidentally at some point, but right now, no one here has it, or has shared it in the last two years, or I would have picked it up and would have already shared this book out the first time you asked three days ago.

No one is holding out on you, or ignoring you, but you can't expect 200 people individually to confirm that they do not have links to the title you are after, because that sort of well mannered behaviour would servilely fuck up the thread with glut.

I did however keep coming back to an Amazon listing for the 3 cd box set when I was searching for a pirated upload, so it's not out of print if you really can't live without this story.

Sorry I (we) couldn't be of help.

Derek Martinus, director for 26 episodes of Who between 1965 to 1970 (including the first regeneration), and 2 episodes of Blake's 7, has passed away at the age of 82.

I'm still wondering if there's a live show recorded in the 80s that I do not know about.

But IMDB did not help.

This is what I got when I typed Hithikers guide tot he Galaxy live into their search engine...

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Galaxy Quest (1999)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
A Birder's Guide to Everything (2013)
The Girl's Guide to Depravity (2012) (TV Series)

No mention of the TV show, and result number 5 is a soft porn dating comedy that isn't completely awful.

Imagine Friends, if every one used bad words and exposed their breasts twice an episode.

(Now, cross your legs.)

There's been a few live versions over the years - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Stage_shows ) - and the most recent tour had recordings available for a week after each event.

The one they're transmitting shortly was recorded about a fortnight ago.

I've just listened to a recording of the live radio show from Leicester 2012. I imagine it'll be similar to today's show, but what made it great for me was the ad libbing and occasional corpsing. Evidently the cast (and audience) were having a wonderful time.

Adrik is getting a box set.

Turlo didn't get a box set!

Who is the bigger fanfavourite, or did the blokes in marketing just drop the ball when Mark signed up?

Well, he was the very first companion in ANY audio that they did. (Unless you count the Bernice series.)

Just having ANY stories with any companions was a pretty big deal!

Plus, they didn't do box sets back then! ;-)

As for the new set, honestly, I think the reason they're putting him in a box set is because a lot of their subscribers hate the character and don't want to be forced to pay for stories with him! And I imagine that the opposite is also true in that there are a lot of fans who've been waiting for this moment. So they'll draw more attention (and sales!) with a box set. It will be a good way to gauge the popularity and interest for future releases. Plus, with the CC's ending, they need some more DW stories to fill the schedule.

I see where you're coming from, but long term fans know that LC have a *VERY* good record with 'turning characters round' and giving them the chance to grow and shine that TV never gave them. Mel is one that springs to mind.

Exactly what I was gonna say, Nobbler. Hell, they even turned around common fan opinion on the Sixth Medic by giving Colin Baker scripts that play to his strengths. They gave Six heaps of character development! Heck, in last year's January monthly "The Incorrect Medics", the more abrasive Six meets his older self in the same incarnation post-Evelyn, and the contrast is very noticeable. It's not something you'd really expect to work in an audio format, but it's a testament to Colin Baker's acting chops that he made it work! In fact, it's become one of my fave Six audios ever because of the sheer absurdity and audacity of it.

Actually, you know, the *real* biggest turn around for me has been the combination of Ace+7.

When they hit the screens my interest in the series had waned anyway; I wasn't particularly taken with McC, and the various joys of discovery being a late-teenager were taking up most of my time. Kept an eye on most of the Mel era as I've always had a thing for red-heads, but found that the new companion had a bloody awful actress that grated against an inconsistent Doc doing stories that never seemed to quite fit their time-slot; trying too hard to be too adult for an early evening show.

But these last few audio years?

Wow.

What a combination.

Writers that know how to play to McC's strengths, Ms A has improved leaps and bounds as an audio actress, and given stories to play that are dark, complex and adult that don't feel like they're waving those ideas in a heavy-handed-way.

Not to start an argument or anything, but basically what you're saying is, besthead was right. 8-)
VT was the first companion they (LC) used except for Benny. As there was none in 1 and VT appeared in 2, that makes VT the first one they used.

SJS came to LC in 2002 if I'm not mistaken. Those 3 stories you mentioned were not LC stories...

Time is an illusion.

When I think of Kate O'Mara I recall this siren of the small screen, luring (un)suspecting men to their downfall with her timeless looks. As if it were yesterday.

So it comes as some surprise to learn that she has indeed passed away at 74. We are all getting far too old far too quickly. Another great British theatrical presence who will missed. God bless you.

Hey, gang!

Victorian Gentlemen Series Seven links are up now. First two are the stories. The third is the interviews and covers. I will keep this up for a few days. Get them while they're hot!

Thanks, dwst4. Great work.

FYI: For all of those (like me) who have missed the Green Imp Site... it is now back up and running at demonoid.ph (http://www.demonoid.ph) Registrations are not open at this time.... but if you have or know someone who has a valid account with Demonoid they can generate an invitation code for a new user to use for creating their own account.

I managed to log in ok. I haven't had chance to look around much, but I wonder how many of the torrents are still working and how long it'll take to get the site up to the same levels of traffic it used to have.

I'll give it a month before ISPs block it in the UK (thank god for Opera) :D

Ha, no worries.
I read it as being a disappointment that VT didn't get his own boxset when he's been around the longest at LC and that A gets the special treatment now that he's finally decided to come back. I hope that was the case.

It's so easy to get all mixed up in this IT world isn't it?

Best option is for ALL OF US to treat everyone nicely and take care with our posts as they can easily be misinterpreted.........that's why I started with 'Not to start an argument', wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't having a go at you. 8-)

And ditto here. I was just offering some points as to why we haven't seen box sets of the ginger one, and why we are seeing one with the mathematical one.

But I do think that the biggest reason is that they're looking to fill some more DW holes in the schedule with the CC's and LS's ending (even if the latter is being replaced with a new, but similar concept.) And I think that the box sets are less intimidating for new listeners, who aren't starting with #185 or season 8 or the like.

Men are so rare as companions, such odd unexpected blips, that they deserve box sets just for not having boobs.

For me it's the other way round. The imp blocks IPs from my country. It only works with a foreign proxy.
At least my account still works.

More than likely your isp is the one doing the blocking or certain groups made them do it under the threat of getting sued... Yay for internet censorship and throttled/shaped dl speed.

No, its the imp itself. The old imp did the same, and it was a well known "feature". There have been several discussions about it in the forums and even in wikipedia.
My ISP doesn't block anything.

That's devilish of them... But I guess you only need the proxy for the pages and not for the magnet linkages?

Yes, I only need the proxy for the pages and the torrent file. The download itself is no problem then.

For anyone looking for the Doctor Who Big Finish audios check out Ulozto.net. Most of the Big Finish stories are available for download in mp3, m4a, or m4b format, though you may have to do some searching in some cases as not all are labeled properly. If you look up "01 part one-track 01" or some variant thereof you can find the ones not listed by name. Most are complete stories - others will have to be downloaded by individual tracks. This includes the main range, Lost Stories, Eighth Doctor adventures. Fourth Doctor adventures, Companion chronicles, and Gallifrey. Just thought I'd let you all know. Have a good one.

Obviously they should be OK production-wise, but it will be interesting to see what the stories are like.

EDIT TO ADD - Ooo! I'd not really noticed that they were full-cast.

Not unprecedented; checkout The Black Library. They do loads of Warhammer audios, some proper full-casts, but mainly CC style enhanced readings. I've heard a few and they're not bad. (And LC used to Produce them at one time.)

Thanks for that! I'm not terribly familiar with Warhammer, but I've seen a great deal of fiction for that setting, too. It just makes me think how great it would be to have audios for classic settings like Greyhawk or Lankhmar.

Neither am I, but most of the ones I've heard were reasonably stand-alone and self-contained enough to be enjoyed as, if you'll excuse the phrase, generic sci-fi. I only really stopped keeping a regular track of the releases as they started to feel a little same-y after a while.
