What program do you like to use to listen to books?

There are many great apps for android that remember playback positions across multiple titles. I can't seem to find anything for windows that remotely compares!!!
Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated. ☺

VLC *can* save position ...

Just open a video or audio file in VLC Player and while it's playing press Ctrl + b to open the Custom Bookmark manager. Click Create then Close and the current position is saved. You can retrieve the playlist position by pressing Alt + l + b (that's an “L”) and using the arrow keys to find load your save point.

*shrug* Dunno. I stopped using Windows regularly when Win 7 was The New Kid On The Block, but even by then I was already using iTunes (which, yes, I admit has become an over-bloated pile of doo-doo since then) that could already handle that sort of thing by default.

Yeah, the latest LC Podcast has the King Pepperpot totally blowing the lid on our naming mechanism. Pretty shocking how deliberately he inserts it into it... It happens toward the end of the cast before the bonus audio story segment.

The truth here being a bit dirty; Many of us purchase LC content, some of the people here share it. That in turn yields others who purchase content and share it as well. So nipping us in the bud isn't necessarily the best thing to do.. They have discussed often in the podcasts recently that they are barely making any sort of profit now and hadn't made one at all until very recently.. so killing a community that DOES encourage purchasing while also sharing is a bit like killing a fan club where they all listen to the stories or watch them together rather than buying individually...

Well, just my two cents on it..
ON HAPPIER NOTES; War Medic Favorite Moment ((Possibly favorite Potatohead moment ever)) When the Potatohead absolutely 1-ups the pepperpot clock maker

Edit: Even though the naming mechanism is apparently pretty pointless now, I actually have fun with it, so I have no plans to stop using it.

You really should listen to the latest LC podcast to get a glimpse of how futile all the secret codes are anyway.
If we remove the secret codes the material would simply be disseminated more broadly. Right now ABB files are almost always in a different format and the TPB ones appear to be a transcoded/repackaged version of ABB ones.

It wouldn't be in FFS's interests for the codes to exist because the easier we are to find the more advertising revenue they get.

tbh, we'd have to be pretty deluded to think that we're fooling anyone with these codes (apart from me, that is). The clue is in the thread title and the fact that we're in the download section of the forum.

I used to get emails about new posts and they used to show everything including the stuff that was supposedly hidden. Add that to having to explain to every new visitor how to find the links and we just draw a target on ourselves.

I'd like to imagine 'Captain Briggs and his Parrot' sitting pissing themselves laughing at our attempts of obfuscate things, thinking that we're outsmarting the powers that be :)

They may help against the half-arsed google search, but anyone determined enough still seems to find their way here. We know the core members here, but do we know how many others there out there just lurking?

My point was that using these codes to hide from BF is useless - they know we're here and probably have known pretty much all along. All we're doing is hiding from other DW fans and deluding ourselves into thinking that we're smarter than we really are :)

The #1 was surprising, but with some reflection it does make sense. He and his Medic were perfectly matched and played off each other wonderfully, to the point you almost can't imagine one without the other. (Ironic, as what's about to come out next month IS the only TV story of one without the other.)

I'm even more astonished that a novel Companion almost made it into the top five, and not the one I would've thought of either (she's #8).

American Medic fans would also need to have searched out his episodes online or on home video long after the fact, since they weren't broadcast here during their run in the UK. The 3rd Medic was the first to appear on American television, though he failed to catch on due to poor scheduling, and of course The Scarfed One was the first Medic to become popular here in the late 1970s. A little part of me still misses those Howard da Silva recaps and teasers!

Auntie Beeb started selling the Scarfed Medic's adventures to American PBS in the late 70s. I remember that my local station played one installment each weekday evening, then on Sundays did all the previous week's episodes together so you could do the complete adventure in one sitting. My first one was "Noah's Ship in the Cosmos." Nearly 40 years ago now! Never looked back.

Yeah, I watched the first of "schoolhouse medic". It was mostly dumb. Took itself way too seriously for being so laughably bad. SJA was better. Even it's bad episodes were at least fun. It was basically exactly what I expected. Unfortunately. Predictable is an understatement.

On top of that - yet another show where the ridiculously pretty girl that acts completely normal is supposed to be an outcast. And where we're supposed to feel bad for the pretentious jock asshole because "his life is sooo hard, boohoo."

It DID try valiantly, but fell miserably short.

Scholarly accolades has too many mood whiplashes, a few good moments but dragged down by the scholarly aspect. The people don't seem to react like real people, it's all gore and blood and the next minute they're discussing something completely normal with no lasting effect. A few good moments though.

Also the medic himself appeared to be a little OOC allowing children to get attacked.

Just finished listening to Pr0ject: L@zaru5 and switched over to podcasts - Light of September's latest has the Huldra in it too! (And Sly McC if you don't know the series)

Just finished P:L myself yesterday, too, continuing to catch up on the primary range. Quite the co-inky-dink. Now I'm listening to the AfterGenesis Cypher (BT novel by CJH and his sis). Tending to listen to 4-6 from the main line, then take a break with something else, normally it's not something medic-related, but it was the only thing left on my listening device during the long drive home, so I started it. I'd heard not good things about it, but so far, it's at least better than the last televised appearances of the (formerly) Cardiff crew... Wanted to read/hear this before moving on to the new audibles.

any reviews yet for the 2 scholarly accolades?Just finished watching Coal Hill Kids....thanks but I'll pass. Felt way too much like a bad SJA clone but without any of the fun. Didn't really find any of the characters relateble or even likeable, not even the way too attractive wallflower or the hot psycho teacher. Guess I'll just wait till Christmas for my Hoo fix since I'll be watching anything else but this. I had a feeling it'd be bad but I thought I'd check out the first episode in the hopes I would be wrong. Looks like I was right the first time. Sometimes first impressions are the correct one.

At long last here's the commentary for Series 8 of Scarlet Midget.

Which wraps up my SM commentaries for now. Series 9 (BTE) does have a commentary but I have no way to rip from Blu Ray right now. Series 10 oddly enough had NO commentary. And jury's out on Series 11 airing right now!

Just been watching this series today (The episode The Cat with Ten Lives. Realized I'd met one of the actors in the episode). First time I've had the chance to watch the series. I grew up with one TV channel (for at least ten years - ABC Australia) and never got to see it. So glad it saw release as a DVD set. Could use some humour in it as, like most Anderson shows, it takes itself so very seriously. Though I do like that it doesn't ridicule things.

I wonder what some people were expecting from an online only show aimed squarely at internet-addicted teenage boys (and possibly girls but as the DW production teams prefer male targets for their audience, somewhat unlikely) ?

As a tangent, one day it would be really nice to hear another religious figure being used as an expletive. Buddah, maybe, or Vishnu, or Zoroastra.

Don't know if it's just me but it keeps on coming up "temporary error, retrying", even after I've transferred to my account and tried d/loading.

Scratch that - I tried again before going to bed, late last night and it finally downloaded overnight, and extracted okay. Thank you manofsteel25

Yep, I liked it too. It's not a challenging adult drama series, but it was never supposed to be. It's pretty much what I expected, based on Patrick Ness's involvement and the info we got over the last few months.

We have to remember that -- a new series sometimes take a few episodes to shake the characters out and set up the plots... -- the first few eps of Burning Trees wasn't the best... in fact those were some of the worst ones ...and the first ep of SJA wasn't amazing either....

It pretty much gave the set up and pretty much was what it said on the tin...personally would have loved one of the SJA kids to be a a regular member of the cast and as a way to bridge the series .... [i still am holding out for a Chesterfeild appearance]....

and for those that called it waterloo road.. well remember many of the who cast were cast member on that show

the nutter from "Ruse" was a teacher
SJS's Luke was a student
Ms. Ozwald was a student
and Burning Trees Mr Jones appeared in the final episodes
and the guy with played Chesterfeild in the AN Adeventure movie by Mark was also the assistant headmaster

and IIRC Heather Peace had a huge interview where she expressed the interest to be the first female medic...and Chris Geer says he wants to do the role as well.

I often randomly invoke the names of Crom and JR Bob Dobbs in my fevered exclamations. "By the gods!!" is another fav.

---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 PM ----------

Also, the first episode of SJA is fun. Kl@$$ never even remotely invoked that feeling. Treefire and SJ are both filled with WONDER and astonishment right from the get go. Kl@$$ is filled with yawns and stereotypical tropes. Kl@$$ even fails at bringing the dumbed-down melodrama that it's aiming for. I don't want a spin off to be the same as any show, but the producers need to understand what makes the ENTIRE medic franchise differ from the usual U.S. primetime bullcrap.

Where's the joy and wonder?

Can I encourage everyone here to support those charities listed below. We get 99% of stuff for free, let's do our bit to support when needed with the remaining 1%.

I can't believe that anybody would ask for a share of a book meant to raise funds for a guy fighting cancer but, assuming that that is even a remote possibility, I'm quoting this for truth. Well said.

However when it come to releases for charity, to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes, when so called fans refuse to put their hands in their pockets for a few pounds/dollars (depending on geographic locations), it makes me sick to the depths of my soul!
Its a reflection of the world today.... a self entitlement, that makes people believe they deserve it all, with no effort or outlay at all!
If its for charity... PAY FOR IT.... you pay for little else on here... DO THE RIGHT THING!

In the case of most of the charity specials, there is no way to pay for and get those books now, even in scanned form. The physical versions sold out long ago, and there is no mechanism for buying an e-book version of most of them. Yes, people could still give donations to those charities. But unless they get scanned by someone and distributed, there is no book for those people to read. So, I don't think that it's unreasonable for people to ask here for those older books that aren't available.

I think it's just a bit of common sense. Anything "old", and unlikely to be available, then ask, but something new, donate. I think that jawamaster is just voicing something about what seems to be something that goes on all too often - a "take" attitude, rather than a "give and take" attitude. So yesterday, I finished the eponymous audio about the creator of the pepper pots. After all the times I've been told it's fantastic, I was prepared for a letdown, but no, that one really did live up to both its potential and its hype. The previous entry, (Opposite of Alpha), was not nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe, either. Not great, but not the awful mess most reviews seem to paint it. I wonder how Mister is going to fair...

Just finished part 1 - it's a good effort, but the motion of the human characters is not really convincing. Plus they seem to jerk and twitch quite strangely when standing around having conversations, there's a bit with several of the colonists where they talk and all take it in turns to slightly shift from one side to the other! Other than that, it was very enjoyable. The soundtrack especially is so much better than anyof the recons I've seen.

The DVD is releasing in Australia a little after the Uk (Roadshow, as usual). There's a limited cinema run around the country also.

BTW, forgot to mention that JB Hi-Fi (for those of you here in Oz) is selling medic series 1-9 for only $30 each (both DVD and Blu-ray) at the moment.

Me too and I was hoping it wasn't so. People get a lot of stuff for nothing so when something comes along that it would be great to support so that, y'know, it's financially viable to release more it'd be great if people did. Ultimately I want every show either recovered or animated and the more of us who actually, for once, purchase the item in question the greater the likelihood of that happening.

I actually took it that he's not a fan of animated remakes, and as such, he would rather waggle his bollocks about than encourage that sort of enterprise.

I, however, have enjoyed the remakes and recons in the past (it was the only way to SEE - and not just listen to - many early episodes). Certainly, some animated stylings were better than others, and some still-photo composite episodes were better than nothing.

As an American, (although currently unemployed) I'd love to buy a set, to help ensure more of the same... but it seems that this is only available in the UK and other of Her Majesty's sovereign territories (current and/or former)... Is this the case, or shall it be made available in time to the colonies? (Don't ask me why I'm suddenly "speaking" this way... I've no idea.)

I know. I'm always faced with the fact that the people on the medic stories I love, and grew up with were actually quite some time ago. It's the watching of the stories on DVD that makes them seem eternally young. It still hurts when they die, especially if it's premature. Mind you, in my mind I've still just finished school, so I'm still in the mid- 1980's!

Got around to listening to oomD oalitionC II.
I had trouble with the final part. Even after a second listening there are still (important?) parts of the dialogue I can't follow and exposition that gets missed because they're so buried in loud sound effects and voice distortion. The Behind The Scenes helps somewhat by unearthing a few key snippets of the recording before the effects get troweled on. I'm beginning to see the appeal of obtaining the script as a kind of closed-captioning.

Makes me want to retroactively applaud all those times ambience was flavoured with a gentler touch and voices were convincingly made to sound alien by more subtle means. Less is more.

As someone who is deaf in their left ear and have mild hearing loss in the right it's always a complaint with me. TV and movies bombard with music that is far too loud, or sound-effects that are far too intrusive. It makes you wonder why they have dialogue in the first place. Frustration abounds when watching and listening to things these days (not everything has sub-titles either. If a video game I play has subtitles I'll turn them on, if given the chance - I never did find out how to turn the subtitles on in Assassin's Creed 2. Oh well, finished it already).

I guess that's why I like Behind the Scenes stuff - it helps as you've pointed out.

Just went today and saw powa of the kaleds at the cinema. Quite enjoyed it. The animation of the kaleds is good. The animation of the actors was a bit naff, a bit jerky and some parts the perspective of their limbs seemed out and they walked funny.

There also seemed to be bits where on the soundtrack things must have been happening but were not animated, I would say it was not known what was going on. So it sort of caused some pregnant pauses.

The kaleds are well used in the story and very ominous as only you and the medic know their true nature. Mind you the humans are morons in it.

There was a special making of at the end.

I would say more money and time could have made it better

Still overall not bad and I hope they do more!!!

Well, it's going to be on BBC America for free next Saturday. As much as I'd enjoy seeing it in the theaters, It's kind of hard to justify paying outrageous movie theater prices for something that will be free in a week. And not even in color, at that, even though it will be available on the DVD in a few months.

Did they really expect to get decent crowds for a 50 year old story in black and white featuring a Doctor that few current Who fans even know?

Understood!!!

Just thought there might be a little more interest than 10 people. Having said that, 2.5hrs + 15 min documentary was a long haul for something designed for 30 min tv time slots

I am glad that the animation was done in widescreen format and not in 4:3 aspect

My concern is that if the Medic community does not get behind this and show money wise support, and that it is worth Aunty beeb doing these, then we may not get further stories done.

I think it would be nice if we saw 1 done once a year and maybe released on the 23rd November each year as a tip of the hat. Time will tell I guess. It would be fantastic if the Beeb asked the community which story they would like to see done next!!!

Please note a Bluray Special Steelbook version comes out February in Colour and B&W for anyone interested

Yes, I know what you mean. You do get some good insights (I particularly liked the bonus extras on the Captive set, with the sound designer chatting. Brick Niggs was good on that one also). Just listened to one of the Earlie Advents this week and thought the insights into the guy playing B3n were good. Wish there was more insights rather than "Such and such was good", "Oh, the whole team were wonderful" Blah blah.

I agree with all these things. There was one amusing moment in the animation where a person's shirt moved with him, but his breast-pocket sort of marqueed in the opposite direction. If they'd had any time at all to spare, they'd have caught that.

The "city" where I live is more of a large town (under 85k population) but there was a respectable audience. At least 50 people I'd say. Granted, I brought 5 with me :D

Hello, everyone! I just got home from visiting my friend in NJ as well as going to LI Who on Saturday! Man, it was so much fun! Got to meet the 8th and 5th Medics, as well as demonstrated my Judoon impression to a certain Mr. Briggs. He was pretty impressed, actually. Also, the 8th Medic liked the TeeFury playing card shirt of him, which I wore. He even asked where he could get one, which I had to break the bad news and tell him they weren't available anymore. Also, my friend got me a 12th Medic sonic, which I can add to my collection. I realize this sounds like a backhanded compliment but I actually love how over-designed Twelve's sonic is. Oh, and my friend custom made me an Eight coat to wear to the con over my clothes. It's really comfortable, actually. Anyway, enough geeky gushing from me. But if someone could provide the newest releases I missed while i was gone, that'd be brilliant. Thanks!

Cheers Dormy. We're mostly fine, if a bit shaken up. The faultlines have been lighting up the country like a Christmas tree since last night. There is a lot of road damage, and some population centres have been completely cut off from the rest of the country. if you are missing the Medic, you might want to check out The Dr Strange movie which has quite a doctorish feel and ending.
Also the magnificent Stranger Things with a killer 80s Tron like soundtrack on Netflix.

Loved it.
But one of the writers deserves to be kicked for the glaring missed opportunity:

(Arrive through the mystic portal, find city in ruins.)
Dr. Strange:
Judging by the devastation, I'd say the zealots got here before us.

Mordo:
Really? No shit, Sherlock.

(At least that's how I'm choosing to remember it.)

I know the closest he came to working on The Medic was working with the 6th Medic on H$stle about 5-6 years ago but still RIP Robert Vaughn- one of the classiest TV Spies ever.

Going to brighten my mood with the Power of the Pepper pots screening tonight. I know i can see if for free, but I figure what are the odds I'll ever see Classic Medic again on the big screen - let alone something from the 60s? Besides I need to get out of the house. Some personal stuff has me down and I think this will help.

I saw Dr. Strange while I was visiting my friend in New Jersey last week. It was amazing. I'm still glad they maintained the humor that Marvel movies are known for, while seamlessly integrating outright supernatural elements into the Cinematic Universe. Cumberbatch really brought his A-game, and it shows, even if part of me still wishes he had used his British accent and not an American one for the role.

I am looking for the comics from those. I only found a handful of issues but from the looks of it there was a bunch of them
Thank you on advance!!!

Repeated asking won't make it happen. If you're that keen, why not buy it and share it with us instead?

Well they did find someone else's share of burning trees to re-share.

Yeah, but it was just the audio. It wasn't the whole shebang. But whatever. We'll play it by ear somehow...

You request EVERY MONTH!!! You've never shared anything since I've been on here. I've even sent you PM with stuff. You're a hypocrite!

Such hostility. Let's try to remember, people, that no one is obligated to share anything on this site and that those who do should be shown the proper appreciation and not attacked because they didn't post something to YOUR satisfaction. Hostility will simply discourage anyone wanting to share anything and then where would you be? So please let's table the negativity.

It took me so long to sort out TW today. I didn't really have the money for it but I was excited to hear it and share with you guys. To spend all that time and be spoken about so rudely!!! I'd actually ask for Miss Joan Doe, del 37 and Goldentalesgeek to be removed from forum for being so rude and ungrateful. I'm really hurt by this situation and have reported all the users about the administration.
I'm never sharing on here again. That's a fact.

Everyone just take a deep breath and step away from your keyboards.

If I wasn't on holiday I would've popped up here earlier. You know the drill... rufjvjsusRjjgjfWjjgjgQ

How about we stop with requests for regular series? There are a lot of lurkers who appreciate the community and appreciate the efforts of those who share. There's more than a little entitlement from some people here. I roll my eyes when I drop by and see people asking for things that became available that same day. As the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers. Feel lucky for what you've got and don't pester.

To re-iterate what I just said. I was defending you Davro2015. I assumed after you requested a share then posted a copy that you had sourced it elsewhere and were re-sharing it here. Your reaction is uncalled for. I wasn't being rude and, since I don't even download from here, I wasn't being ungrateful.

Absolutely appreciate everyone who shares here and thanks to those who've uploaded recently.
But perhaps it's time to remind people of the very first post in this thread.
Above all - let's be nice to each to other

If there is anything you especially want then ask politely for it and someone often will upload it for you.

Try not to ask for something that's been released in the last week or so though. The release will find it's on here eventually and asking for it so soon can seem a little demanding.
