Only know the film, so this should be interesting, and those two have done some good stuff in the Painted Man range.

Looking around for a copy of a couple of Medic-related items...

The first being a BBC4 documentary called "Drama Queen" about the first Medic producer which aired in 2008.
The second being "Medic and Me", an audio book about (and written by) the producer during the Third Medic's time.

From Large Conclusions, looking for Part 3 of Pepperpot Empire 4 (The F-E-A-R-L-E-S-S) and the Lost Medic story The E-L-I-T-E. My copies of both seem to be corrupted.

I feel like I'm one of the few among my friends who's actually read the original books in addition to the seeing the movie. The books are actually darker in tone to the original movie. Ever see the underrated film sequel "Return to Oz"? That's closer in tone to what the books are, which is why so many people were alienated by it at the time it came out and also why so many people don't know about it now. All the same, it's awesome that LC is adapting Oz for audio. The fact that it's Marc Platt -who's become one of my top 5 fave writers at LC- doing the adaptation makes for some great icing on an already delicious cake for me! Color me excited! :)

Just the general lack of information on this project makes me think that it was just a rumour, I'd have thought that a project that exciting would have had LC falling over them selves to tell us about it.

I've only seen the '39 film version of Wizard of Oz. Never read the original book, but I have seen Return to Oz. I really enjoyed it. It has a dark tone that unfortunately is missing from kid's films these days. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to traumatize kids, but those darker scenes tend to be more memorable than the family friendly scenes, at least for me.

There's actually more than one book in the series, but good on you for liking Return to Oz. I also think a lot more kid's films nowadays need to have some element of darkness to them, really. If anything to help convey to kids that not everything is happy and saccharine and that there are people out there who will hurt them without any hesitation if they aren't careful.

MGM owns the rights to the Ruby slippers, even though the Wizard of Oz itself is in the common domain.

Dorothy's shoes were silver in the books.

Return to Oz paid through the nose to use her ruby slippers since the movie was not made by MGM, and one of the reasons R2O was considered to be a financial failure was that it had unnecessarily dug such an enormous hole to get out from the inside of just so that the "new" movie would seem like a sequel to the 1939 blockbuster, when it wasn't.

I'm reading Around the World in 80 Days at the moment and it struck me that LC could adapt it to audio very easely, it's a cracking story with a good pace and a fasinating central character.

I don't think it exists in a digital format. However there is an entertaining in-depth interview with the author (http://tinyurl.com/owsxopy) on the publisher's web site. It's split into two podcasts, the first half is his experiences of 80s who fandom, his time with Audio Visuals and DWM and work on TV. The second concerns the writing of the book. What are the porn filters like in the hospital?

I can assume that they black listed the obvious places, or anything with a dirtyword in the url, but considering there are hundreds of children using this broadband, somewhere in the hospital basement there are half a dozen human monitors (people who are monitoring), probably off duty orderlies trying to save up for a boat, making sure that nobody goes no place so deviant using hospital resources.

All I'm saying is that if you accidentally go to www.nudieclogdancing.fi, the entire nursing staff will know moments later and will judge you as a man with refined and worldly tastes.

I tend to listen as I'm going to sleep.
The pepperpots ones annoy me as the voices are so loud they can wake me up again.

I find that with the McCoy theme too. It seems louder than the others and can wake me as well.

I usually just listen in the privacy of my own room while I'm folding laundry. However, if it's an audio I've been meaning to listen to but kept putting it off, I'll load it on my mp3 player to buzz through while I'm at my volunteer work on Tuesdays. A couple of good Medic's Friends audios make the 2 hours of work just fly by. In fact, that's how I got through a lot of those audios in a short space of time.

I do sometimes listen at night, before bed, but I've found that, more often than not, I end up falling asleep and I have to re-listen so much to find the spot I last remember. While I'm doing the gardening is ideal time to listen, but also when I'm ironing the clothes (which doesn't really give me enough time to listen.

Being quite deaf in my left ear and listening through ear-phones is not ideal as when something is said through the left channel I can't hear it - I try to work out what was said by the reply on the right side (that can be annoying).

I did consider this, but I thought it wouldn't be worth the effort. I've got so many to listen to it would slow down my effort. Sometimes I can hear what's in the left channel if it's not entirely centred there (through the right), but it sounds like a whisper. If it's really important dialogue I'll rewind it a little and swap ears - wait, can't swap ears, I mean swap ear pieces (that still doesn't sound right - I mean I'll put the left ear phones in my right ear and vice versa).

If your mp3 player has a sleep timer stick it on to go off after 15 or 30 mins, that way you don't have to retrace too many of your mins the next morning. works a treat for me. Alos have you considered something called a speaker pillow. The speaker is built into the pillow so you don't have to worry about wire and also because I have just one speaker it automatically comes out in mono. I used to wake up in the night nearly strangling myself on headphone wire

I listen to LC, or really anything audio-related, on my way to work (on my bike) and during long trips. I used to listen at work but, well, I needed to focus on one thing at a time and didn't like missing little details in stories I was listening to when things got busy.

I tend to do most of my listening whilst I'm working, so generally tend to hear things like the monthlies in one sitting. And as I work for myself it means that I can crank up the volume as loud as I like when the mood takes me.

Mrs N generally keeps her listening to going to/from work, and the trip's generally long enough to hear one CD on the way in and one on the way back.

In the bath or in the car. Bath is my favourite, I keep the hot water running and spend a Sunday afternoon under the bubbles while I listen to a few audios.

I listen to a large number at once on my trips to the capital, since the trip is two hours each way and usually includes a fair amount of walking time as well;
otherwise I sporadically binge in the evenings. I play simple number-based puzzle games from this set (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/) to keep my hands busy, and frequently pause to make a note.

Hmmm... I've got 9 ten second gaps throughout the episode was my download screwed? I'll try again - failing that if I snip out the silences it comes out at the correct 25 minutes...

I don't think it works like that?

Checking my bundle now.

Codecs can be a problem.

Some bastard invents new codecs and suddenly your perfectly usable rig is junk because the kindly uploader is encoding with tech is a generation ahead of you.

I got through the first file (2 minutes 20 seconds) and it was fine, the second file started immediately and I haven't seen a gap yet...

3rd track started, and it all seems fine.

Do you have anything running in the background hogging resources?

You check that by pushing the buttons "control alt delete" at the same time.

All else fails, restart your computer.

Oh!

Check the files on a different player on your computer, and then check it on a different computer.

Basic stuff.

Sorry.

Yeah, that's what I should do (put the timer on). I did see those speaker pillows but I haven't seen anymore around lately. It wouldn't be practical in my situation as my missus likes peace and quiet at bedtime.

It seems that everyone manages to find time to listen, whether it be travelling to work, at work, bath-time or before bed. Good stuff.

I'm up to Kreed of the Cromon (see what I did there?!) at the moment. Not really enjoying this divergent stuff. At least I'm managing to get through the audios quite regularly lately.

Or turn up the volume.

You're tired, you're still going to go to sleep no matter what.

This way you'll trick yourself into dreaming about Daleks and everything that comes with Daleks like maybe, possibly a young Wendy Padbury who thinks that you are amazing.

"Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again?"

Yes – I'm not ten!

It's not unusual for LC to cock up a release so it wasn't a totally stupid question.

The mp3 version posted "elsewhere" is fine.

Perhaps that was the version you were checking?

I listen whenever I'm working on a craft or knitting project. I have to have something to keep my brain happy while my hands are busy or I can't focus and I don't actually get anything done.
Same here. I like listening to audio dramas while my hands are being busy. I don't know why but, English not being my mother tongue, it helps me to better understand the story.
I tried listening to them in the car, but I couldn't concentrate both on the road AND the audio.
And that, kids, is the story of how I lost my driver's licence.

Thanks to Davros and DWTS4 are usual (you are putting the rest of us to shame of late).

However, Davros can you reup EWOD as when merging the file you appear to have got the separate files mixed (i.e. Episode 3 and an incomplete Episode 4 come before Episode 1 & 2)

Still very grateful however. You are a hero...

I can DL dwst4's beehynd the seeens stuff (thanks dwst4) without a hitch but if I try to DL the stories from any of the other kind souls, whether it's through seeend spice or oop lauded or any of the other places, all I get is a black screen with a play button and the chance to play the audio, rather than DL it. No problem. Should be noted that the Get_iplayer pvr doesn't work as well as it did up until end of last year, still works but you are better off finding the show you want to watch on the beeb's site and then copy and pasting the PID into the 'Quick URL' box. Just watched a awesome hour of UK tv called Cyberbully. A chilling real-time thriller starring Maisie Williams – from Game of Thrones – as a teenager battling with an anonymous cyber-stalker. The plot of Cyberbully is inspired by dozens of real-life cases.

What I got out of it...we remember people who we teased a lot. And was annoying, etc... Watch this and ask yourself who is the bully and the victim here. This is why I dont go on FFS much anymore. The trolling can actually hurt real bad and we dont know it...think its all fun. Until someone dies from it...

This has really shaken me up. Our words, our lack of judgment, can do major harm. In real life as well as online. Please watch this and try not to quickly judge it. In the wrongness of this hacker, there is a big lesson to be learnt if we dare open our eyes enough to see.

Finally finished Grazeus - a bit long (That's what SHE said!). Glad I'm managing to listen on a regular basis, usually as I do my gardening. Where do you guys & gals usually listen?

For a while there, I was listening my LC audios on the job, in my cubicle, back when I was a desk monkey, chained to a cubicle. Seriously, that's prob. about the *only* thing I miss about that job five years ago! But, now, I try to "binge" listen every couple months or so in my office, i.e. "man-cave" - usu. Fridays from 4pm-8pm, when my wife is at work, doing her "in-home pediatric nurse thing". Me and our 2 "fur kids" curl up with a blanket, my SANSA Zip Clip + (I'm anti-Apple!), and get our WHO on! W00t!

Speaking of which.. I just finished listening to the Old Adv./Nerbice Fummersield Boxed Set this morning (started it last night), and I dunno. I've been a fan of the character, since her 1st appearance, in print, back in PC's 'Hate and Peace'. I even listened all the way through the audio boxed sets recently, up to this one. And, while it was cool to have her back, and working (kinda-sorta) with 7 and @ce, it just wasn't as good as it should have been. The best story in the set, "The Darks of Karos', was not even all that great, as the ending felt a bit MEH. And, oh good lord, how annoying was @ce's character? She's popular enough to prop other weak ranges even if she unfortunately couldn't save herself.

I'd love to see (hear) Iris and the Ranni matching wits because Iris does not seem to have a strong grip on reality which would turn the girl ass over tea kettle to say the least, as iris keeps insisting that that the Ranni was dating all these blokes at the Academy that she hadn't.

Well, in my mind, it was a shambles. Entry ticket was 25, and I saw no-one checking for the official wrist bands. The LC area was next to the main hall, and once the punters came out from the talks, the whole room was like the black hole of Calcutta. There were racks of LC products, and when the room was packed, it was a thief's paradise! Credit card payments were a joke, as the Wi-Fi didn't work when the room had bodies in it. My payment was declined, and I had to go into the main reception area to try again to pay. I spent most of my time chatting to the son of a certain legendary TV producer as even trying to get to tables, merchandise was a joke. So, to recap: 30 in petrol, 25 ticket, 6.50 for TWO coffees, and a long walk out of the venue to find a greasy spoon caf to get something to eat. The prices in the venue for food were a rip off, 6.25 for a prawn sandwich... I'm not pointing a finger at LC, as they were not to blame in my mind for the mess, but I think they should run an event such as this on their own, not in partnership. Even a member of the LC staff said that it was basically a shambles. The one good point was that some LC CDs were heavily discounted, I got the entire 4th Dentist series for 35, and a U+N+I+T boxset for 20. But, how many CDs were pocketed? I'm 100% honest, but at one stage was tempted....

Nobbler: it actually depends on what you call fun. Maybe it's me, but as I have been a co-organiser of two very successful paranormal events, the whole event seemed to be shambolic. Yes, people looked "happy" but by looking at the photos on the LC FB page, it is a sanitized version of what was happening. One had to fight to get to the racks of LC CDs, as the queues for autographs were in the way, and therefore the sheer amount of people milling about hid the racks from the LC staff. By the amount of empty boxes piled behind the bar area, LC took a great deal of money. A good friend of mine works "remotely" for LC, and they said that the whole event was basically a disorganised mess. On a separate thread, my friend, who was once a key member of LC was completely ignored by the company when they had a major "ooh look, we are 15 years old and lets have a party in London". They were very upset to be totally excluded from an event which they should have been invited to. Even now, they are thinking of jacking in the work they do, as they feel totally separated as LC seem to think they are a major player in the "who universe" Take it from me, that person helped build the company, and kept it on track for many years.

Well without seeming to be a traitor to this thread, I only sat in on the Blokey six plus one panel... was, in my mind, a bit "oh look. we have an extra life now" event.
There was little info to inform people of what was going on, no PA saying that so and so were due on the stage, at a certain time, apart from a leaflet in the "pack" we were given. Rooms were given to guests, to sign items. Maybe I'm being pedantic, but my events were run on a much slicker basis... I could make some extra comments about the event, but, as I say, a good friend was involved, and they do, like me, have certain principles. Nuff said.

Yup! I was happier with the charity one-story they did with BS.. "Many Happy Returns", I believe it was. It was fun, competent nods to continuity, and I felt BS was more like herself. I am worried about the 2nd NewAdv. boxed set. While my interested is piqued at the mention of Tusekh, I have doubts after the 1st boxed set. Still if I need my fill of the old Destroyer, there's always Magic Bullet's Faction Paradox audios. :)

I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed the first "new" BS box set. A lot. Admittedly, I don't knew as much about her history as most, having only read about half of her NA's is part of the Medic series, and none of her solo books, and having heard only her first series of solo audio stories and hers with the Medic. But I found the entire box set to be really good, with the opening story particularly brilliant. Of course, NevF never disappoints.

As to when I listen to the audios, I tend to listen when traveling. Either on those rare occasions when I'm on long road trips, or taking the subway or walking around town or shopping. They're particularly good for long trips via bus or train or plane. I tend to listen to the podcasts and the extras in the background when playing games on the computer or while cooking dinner, since those don't require as much concentration.

Have people's listening to Toby's podcasts? The whole series has been far more interesting than I expected it to be.

It really is quite a disturbing romcom.

If you live alone, clothes are annoying and optional.

I used to live alone.

But now when I wake up at 3am, I have to get fully dressed before I can go to the toilet because there's a 1 percent chance that the girl who lives here who I am not involved with, might also be walking around the house to no purpose.

A younger version of me would just piss out my bedroom window.

Your photo might have been strategic, but I'm sure that there was a fraction of a second with completely exposed nipples in the movie before she found those cans.

Apparently if you go see Gone Girl, that's got Ben Affleck's penis in it dangling all over the place.

It's a good thing there's no morals clause to Affleck's Bat-contract or they would have sent him packing for unveiling what he's packing?

Some times it just happens that one person's recommendation can go uncommented at the time, but then gets remarked on later when you see another good review. A sort of "Hay! I remember reading about that on such'n'such" and then in a community like this you come back and spread the word just a bit further.

Here's a question ... do Mills And Boon actually DO none-hetrosexual love stories? One would like to think that they would these days.

Fun fact. (Well, it was a Fun Fact when I learnt this in the '90s. May well have changed since.) A lot of M&B writers were ... get this ... long distance lorry drivers. They'd get the regular M&B outlines, plots and characters, and then they'd fill in the blanks during their driving breaks. There was, supposedly, one M&B writer that was the pen-name/ghost-writer-name for the famous Eddie Stobart's drivers.

I have so much to read that I didn't even glance at this when you first recommended it but with all the kerfuffle I figured I'd at least check the Amazon page out. It's a dollar and it's only (an estimated) five pages. ??!!???!! That's pretty outrageous. This Goldsbrough hasn't got anything else on Amazon which means he's a new author. They should be giving this prelude away to build preorders. If this is 20 cents a page how much is the full novel going to be? My sister's friend is a minor author on Amazon. She writes romance novels and likes to brag that they outsell Fifty Shades. They're also significantly less money. This guy needs a new manager. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be snooty against you Davros. The short description of the book sounds intriguing enough that I'd read the prelude, just not at any price. You say the writing is simplistic. Any chance of an excerpt?

What? You mean you've NOT heard there's going to be a cross-over in Season 9, written by Carole Mortimer?

Don't shoot me down but another great book is The girl on the train absolutely chilling!!!

Stephen King plugged it in on Twitter today. I rarely even like the books he loves so I stopped listening to that part of his input, but I will try this one.

Alfred tucked the scroll into his coat and rushed towards the exit. He stopped and turned back, but could hardly see the man now under the solemn candlelight.
'A privilege a man would give a fortune for?' he shouted over.
The stranger didn't move but one, curious word came from out of the darkness...

I'm not giving it away but it's brilliant!!!! I paid 99p , yes it is expensive I suppose but it's better than buyin a Mcflurry!!! And I got more enjoyment out of those 5 pages than I did half the sci fi crap published these day ( Cough , Peter Hamilton!!!, cough!!!)

Meh. Strikes me as a bit generic, if I'm honest. Nothing that grabs me and makes me want to read the rest. But each to their own, I suppose.

Also the blurb is differant to on Facebook to...

The Tavern Bridge is a new, exciting Sci fi thiller novel to be published this Summer on the Amazon Kindle.

It is the debut novel by Keith Goldsbrough and promises to be a thrilling ride you will never forget.

When a bomb detonates in central London , a force is released that could end the future for mankind. Our only hope is a band of ex MI5 personal and an epic journey in to the past.

The Crossing has been made, and THEY are free!

It's a shame the chosen prelude shows none of the promise of that synopsis. Maybe the author should have chosen a bit with the epic journey in? I dunno, I'm not really getting epic from that snippet. I wish I could share your enthusiasm for this piece but its charms sadly elude me.

It's certainly better than the cover for LC's 'Red Dawn'.

But there's something very alarm bell ringing on that chaps FB page ...

"(All proceeds will go towards making this project bigger and more successful and Please, please, please don't forget to review. The more feedback, the better I can make the finished product. Happy reading)"

Putting aside how a soon-to-be-professional-author can have such terrible sentence and paragraph construction, it seems he doesn't appear to have actually written the thing yet! Have Amazon started doing 'kickstarter' projects now?

Ditto.

Well, hopefully he'll finish it one day and I wish him well with that. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised by it one day.

Really? It was the line "The more feedback, the better I can make the finished product" (my emphasis) that leads me to think it's not finished. If it IS publicity-funding he's after then fair enough, but one would hope an aspiring author would be a bit more up-front about it, wouldn't you?

I can see what you mean but Amazon must have confidence in him if they published his work? Surely they must have read a finished book? Or am I being thick ( not for the first time!!!)

Amazon don't publish they just sell. As this is just an e-product they've no stocking issues to worry about, so all they care is that there's an e-product to shift and take their considerable cut of the proceeds.

Publishers are the ones that get the writers, hire the editors, do the legal leg work, get the artists, deal with the money, the printing/e-booking and then finally shove something out of the door for companies like Amazon, B&N, Waterstones, And Mrs Miggins Local Bookshop For Local People to sell.

The whole Anti-Time-Universe is a good idea that never really worked. Cutting off the Docs sense of 'Time' (to us like loosing a limb) never really came across properly. And Time/Space travel was just replaced by the barriers. In hindsight it's a probably a good job they had to wind it up quickly at the behest of the Beeb when the TV series came back.

The Divergent arc seems a squandered promise. It was built up so much, up to and including Scherzo, but after that it was just alien planets as usual.
There were some interesting stories, The Natural History Of Fear being one; The Last being another. But the whole "no Time" thing was never explored to my satisfaction. I was disappointed in the set.
