what 2 in 1 books do you not have in digital? I'm pretty sure I've got the lot. (could be wrong... it's been known... occasionally :p )

Is anyone sure if there's DMR on epubs bought through Itunes? I was going through my shelf and noticed that I had a bunch of 2 in 1 books I didn't have digitally. I noticed that they aren't around anywhere let alone in pdf, so I was considering buying them and converting them myself. (Also, those of you waiting for me to upload those comics, I've just got Medic 8 to go before I can upload them.)

As far as I am aware, iTunes ePubs do have DRM on them. I know they got rid of it from music years ago but nothing else.

Guy Gardner: Warrior

By this time, the power of Guy's ring had begun to fluctuate due to the meddling of the villain Parallax. Deprived of his powers, Guy wore a golden exosuit provided by Blue Beetle which simulated superhuman strength. However, Guy wasn't happy with this initial suit as it didn't feel as natural as using ring power.

I'm a little worried about the meddling and fluctuating of his ring!!

Yeah, but on the other hand any movie that has Scarlet and her derrire are better than movies that don't.

Dang it, Nobber, how can I argue with a solid argument like that? :)

It kinda sucks that Medics 10-12 have an ongoing comic series, while 9 only gets a five-part special.

I believe the 2d image of Cricklestone Ecclestopher announced it wouldn't do another series, after it's first panel was drawn...

Yes they have very heavy DRM. In the past to remove it I ran it through ABBYY Finereader's OCR because the only DRM stripper for iBooks is Requiem (v3.3.6) and it only works for iTunes 10.5 through 10.5.3 if I recall correctly and only then if higher versions of iTunes has not been installed before and/or the installation has been cleaned off. Why couldn't LC have put out the new Victorian Gentlemen series box set this weekend instead of the puppet show audio?

No offense for those who are interested in the puppet show, but I have a three day weekend and was so hoping I could listen to the two gents.

The two originals that you had to flip, as well as the four or so they released in a box set a couple of years ago. They must've reprinted them as I saw the boxset in my local bookshop and forked out for it. Not much meat in them (each volume can be read in about an hour), but for completions sake... ;P

I've never seen the show, but part of the novelty seems to be the use of puppets. When you take out the visual in a case like that, you lose something. It's like if LC got the original cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers together and just did audio dramas. Part of the charm of Power Rangers (especially the early series) was the cheesy effects, the fight scenes, and giant monster battles. When you strip away those visuals, you take away an element that can make the show endearing.

Then again, Superman was a popular radio program back in the forties, running for nearly a decade so who knows. This might work.

i think superman is a different case... you had comic books; movie serial and cartoon around the same time as the radio show.....and pretty much was a worldwide phenomenon that became a household name EVERYWHERE.

there are very few character in media that even come close to that Batman; Mickey Mouse; and to a lesser extent.. the Phantom and Bugs Bunny Tarzan and Sherlock Holmnes [ and you could possible argue the Medic ;Harry Potter and James Bond now]

I've been binge-listening to medic and medic-related audios lately (devoured the "homeworld" series and eagerly await more - tho the first 2 seasons of that were the best) and just ate up the 2 seasons of SJS audios.

However, now with how the last ep of SJS ended (i mean, while it WAS an awesome cliff-hanger ending, what's the literal opposite of "cliffhanger" because HOW it ended she was as far from "hanging off a cliff" as could possibly be, but) I NEED to know how she "got back" before her appearance with 10 in "Educational-Institute Welcome-back"!

I've scoured the web for ANY (even fan-glurb) insight on what happened (if it was mentioned in a story somewhere - or if anyone got ahold of LC script ideas about it... but came up with bupkis!

ANYone have any ideas?

Even the Tin-D0g had a "final" farewell scene that could be adjusted to fit with his return with her, but as for SJS?...

Thanks!

OH!
And has the 12 Medics book set been released yet?

best not to think about how SJS links up with TSJA .... or even how it links up with her appearance with the 7th medic in the books

Ok here's one I am hoping something can help me with.. Having some "life issues" (don't you have when Life gets in the way? LOL), and while persuing the interwebs to take my mind of them, I discovered ”Тhe Сaveƽ ௦f Aոdrozanı" OST on Amazon for D/L (and cheap, too!). I thought that it would even cooler if I could find Ark Mayre's "Gh૦st Lɩght” OST that was remastered on vinyl recently. Sure, I could I find it for purchase on Amazon's UK site, but not the US one. Is there anyway for me to DL from a UK site if I live in the US? Also, if not, does anyone have the remastered one for share?

If no one on here has them, I know they have have been shared on the Doctor Who Soundtrack thread (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-collection-all-soundtracks-72196/358.html), so you can ask for a reupload there if needed. (I do have them both in mp3 if no one else will upload them.)

Thank you, CGCJ! All good, then. Someone pointed in a right direction. Mind you, needed to use Tor Browser, as I had to "appear" that my ISP was Russia/Ukraine-based, but it was still good. 192kbps. Sounded great. Loved the remastered GL soundtrack, makes me wish I could get the DVD for less than $300! Damn the BBC and their lack-of-interest in keeping this title in print on the other side of the Atlantic!

On an unrelated note, I have been trying to read "The Scales of Injustice", Gary Russell's DW MA. I've heard sooo much good about it, but damn, it's just boring! I made it to Episode 3 (there's a total of 7 Episodes, which are like long chapters really), but I had to put it aside for a spell. I don't know if it is the fact that I am not the biggest 3rd Medic fan or if it's just a bloody snoozefest. Anyone else not like it, or am I truly the only one?

It has some interesting elements, but I agree that it isn't the most engaging of the novels: it's very talky. Then again, it's got a proper good-bye to Liz. I value that.

Really? Probably showing my age, but I found it way too frenetic. I thought we were half way through and was dismayed discover it was only one quarter. I was exhausted by the pace!
On a positive note, so glad they got the CGI faces of Scott and Virgil about right. That's good old Shane Rimmer, all right!

Much the same here. Lots of fun, just not much time to enjoy each bit before another was thrown at you.

Stupid of ITV to throw future episodes to 8am in the morning, though. Played right they could have built a good Family Viewing figure had they kept it at 5pm.

Thank you. I've already per-ordered next month's book adaptations and the new Bloke's 6+1 novel on top of already sharing the monthly when it comes out and this month's J&L, but I can't buy everything. I like to save money just like everyone else. Besides, the mini journey stories are cheep enough that really anyone could pick that up and post it. And the Freedom Tales for Bloke's 6+1 come out every four months. If one person focused on picking up those releases, it would not break the bank as it were. Even though I enjoy the Freedom Tales, I just prefer the full cast stories because they are the closest to the series.

Most of the LC stuff that used to be up over there has disappeared, there are still a few scraps lying around but not anything new. A pity really, I liked that site.

Yea, I've been trying too. I agree with you. Shame. That site helped fill my backlog of Bloke's 6+1 material.

Philosophically you mean? Well we could view the evolution of life as the universe's existential need to comprehend itself. Alternatively if you mean why are we here, as in here then it's probably because there's nothing good on the telly.

A quick clarification on the drought I mentioned earlier it wasn't just about the lack of postings but of requests and mentions of those releases satan's unveilings has been out for over a month and no one brought it up until I mentioned it in my earlier post. One of the things I love about this forum is how informative it is about LC and DW and I found the lack of mentions about those recent releases disconcerting.

Perhaps we're not here. Perhaps we're just someone's really bad dream, and when they wake up we'll all vanish in a puff of unsmoke. Or maybe our universe is nothing more than a speck of dust on a tabletop somewhere and we'll all be wiped out by a giant washcloth.....or maybe I should stop thinking about it. I'm giving myself a headache. I need a little lie down...excuse me.

So far the novel adaptions have been very pleasing, I'm looking forward a little further than Monday though, to edahsthgiN. It was the most enjoyable of the early na's (for me anyway), so I'm very exited about its audio adaption.

Incidentally GoldenTalesGeek, the LC site has just put up a 1417 res image of #115, I remember you saying you wanted that one.

Waiting, waiting, waiting... When the #### is Netflix going to drop the new season of Daredevil?

After midnight on either the east or west coast i would imagine. Which means we're going to have to wait at least 3 more minutes. The anticipation is killing me. Haven't had such a media boner since waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy! If it doesnt drop at midnight eastern, I'll watch that new Batman Vs Robin to hold me over.

As a side note - DC's Convergence: The main title by Scott Lobdel has been painfully duumb thus far. But 90% of the "pre-flashpoint unviverse" comics (that came out yesterday) were pretty darn swell!!! Nice to see Superman married to Lois Lane. Plus Oracle, Nightwing, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya and my boy Wally West back in action. Too bad it's probably only briefly.

Bloody hell. A brief flight away here in Australia it takes at least half an hour, usually forty five minutes in the same format, and even a 10GB cap is fairly costly. Not to mention it drops out so often that nine times out of ten I end up having to download larger files three of four times. You lot seem to know what you're doing when it comes to internet. When I was last over all of the telephone boxes had been converted into wifi kiosks. In my opinion that's barely one behind f the kind of telephone box I'd like to find walking down the street. :P

On another note to anyone who downloaded the cancelled '93 special script (I meant to mention this sooner); any thoughts of how it would've been received? Or things you would've changed in Graham Harper's position?

At my worst, I was downloading 40 gig a day.

I was also burning 40 gig a day to dvd which was expensive and tiresome.

Moving to external hardrives (from dvd) has saved me so much time and money.

Stop using torrents.

The law changed in Oz.

The owners/makers of Dallas buyers Club had 4700 Australian IP addresses, that they just forced the courts to turn into names and phone numbers and physical addresses. The movie house is allowed to charge retroactively for you watching the movie illegally in lieu of you having a day in court.

Dallas Buyers Club slays iiNet in landmark piracy case (http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-news/dallas-buyers-club-slays-iinet-in-landmark-piracy-case-20150407-1mey38.html)

File lockers like what use are still safe.

But if you're using both, stop it with the torrents.

Alexios
04-10-2015, 02:28 PM
Yeah, that brings up something that's been on my mind. There will always be something I want on the torrents, I just don't have the money to buy everything. Sometimes I like to try before I buy. So will a VPN keep me safe? If so, which one do I use? Also, should I connect to a server in my own country? A neighboring country? One half way across the world?

After you get a VPN, I recommend a little program called VPN Check. It has a free and a paid version. The free version works great. It does two vitally important things for me:

1. It tells me when my VPN is actually working. Quite a few times, my VPN would say it was connected when it was not. I had to keep an ip address checker open in my web browser to confirm. Stokes the paranoia.

2. The second, and far more useful, function it has is the ability to shut down up to three programs in the event that your VPN has a hiccup. As soon as your ip address changes, it just promptly closes the programs. Fantastic.

As far as which country you should connect to, I go by this philosophy: An American company might waste some time trying to track down an American ip address not knowing that it's going to dead end with your VPN. They aren't going to bother with a Hong Kong ip. Which brings up another point. Research your VPN. I read recently that Hide My Ass got a court order to turn over records by the FBI so they did so and the feds caught some American terrorist. Your VPN should not be keeping records on you. That's the point of having one.

Alexios
04-11-2015, 10:12 AM
Thanks, Drake. I'll check that program out and have a list of companies I'm not going to use.

As someone who never had the blessing of reading the novels, I personally think they're sublime. But then again, I'm one of those fans who feels that the more performed Who there is to consume, the better. Plus, I feel like these adaptations are a fantastic way for fans like me to get into a range of Who stories that they were probably too young to experience at the time of their inception, but with the boon of the original actors actually performing the dialogue. :)

Yes, I avoided the novelisations because either I'd seen the episodes originally or the writing was often not up to par, possibly because they were having to write for established characters (never a good thing for a truly creative writer IMHO). I'll have to keep my eyes open for if they get discounted for few days somewhere.

Actually, I didn't even know there were novels at the time. Probably because I was a little kid back when most of them were first published, and the things I was an obsessive fan of at the time were Garfield the cat and Ghostbusters. I honestly still know next to nothing about the novels aside from the info I gleaned from the TARDIS Wiki. In fact, one of my Facebook friends who's actually read the novels is delighted that LC is making these audio adaptations, because it allows his son to experience the storie without having to worry about him ruining his well-worn copies of the books. For me, it just allows me to experience the story with the original actors.

I read a hand full of the NA novels as well as a couple of the MA books when they first came out. I wasn't all that impressed with either brand. The MA's had the merit of at least trying to retain the feel of classic Medic stories; maybe I'm just a purist, but that was, in my opinion, the NA's biggest failure - they never felt like Medic Who.

That actually applies to any extended media franchise. Look at the various Star Trek and Star Wars novels. There have some brilliant books in both series, some decent ones, and some downright stinkers. That's the curse of extended media, whether it be books, comics, or audio, its hit or miss depending upon the writers talent and knowledge of the franchise they are writing for. And sometimes even that doesn't help.

Hoo boy, I know what you're talking about.
12, interesting ideas but poorly executed.
13, interesting and fun but not a wildly cohesive plot.
14, intense and gripping but not what I'd call fun, as such.
15, a party mix: lots of interesting elements.
16, great fun and some good pathos too.
17, a let-down after the previous three.
18, good, if odd in its interlude nature.
19, not fun. Fascinating and involving, but not fun.
20, distinctly mediocre.
21, absolutely brilliant but also traumatising.
22, tiresome (but I didn't like the original either).
23, a pleasing dnouement but what I'd describe as a wringer.
24, rubbish. It felt like the worst of the 1960s DW Annual short stories, plumped out to novel-size.
25, good. A skilful tying-together of disparate elements.

and so on.

I think there comes an odd point in these sort of series where they suddenly start taking themselves far too seriously and get a bit full of themselves. The spirit of adventure and fun suddenly gets replaced by poe-faced "Hmm. Can we make this /real/?" For example I can still re-read most of the first half of the ST:TOS books, but the rest some how feel like I'm reading the novel of ST:The Movie ... a tedious tome of a tedious movie.

I never got round to reading any of the DW books beyond the Target range. Read the first three or four of the 8th Doc ones and thought "I don't know what this is, but it's not DW" and it put me off the extended written range ever since. I'll re-try it one day. I never really got into the Virgin NA as a line of titles.... there were excelent ones here and there... and those seems to be the ones that have been adapted or are heading down that path
the Virgin Missing adventures also were spotty... however some of the brighter spots were the the 4th Medic ones with the time lady ...and surprise those were the first one adapted....
the EDAs were a very bizarre animal it was interesting in hindsight because at the time they were the ones that were defining the 8th medic character .... which now the line seems very out of place given the success of the 8th medic audios
the BBC past docs were possibly the best grouping of the books the conversely wewre some of the best books written for those medics and some were the wost..... [ special mention here was the mini season of Chris Boucher books that featured the 4th medic and the savage..i think there were 5-6 from that era written by Boucher. the 2nd medic and the 6th medic titles were pretty good as well... however the 3rd and 5th medic really were given some horrible titles.

I found the extended edition released on VHS to be the superior version of the film because it added those character moments missing from all the other releases.

The book was awesome.

YMMV.The novel's a slightly different beast than the movie. Roddenberry added in all the stuff that he tried to put into the film, all the things that caused all the behind the scenes turmoil between he and Harold Livingston.

I just finished listening to "The Good-Natured Conflict". As I said to LC on Twitter, I felt it was a darkly comedic romp full of twists and turns. That cliffhanger at the end was evil, though. It's left me wondering how they got out of it. Have yet to listen to "Ruined Packages", though. I'm looking forward to hearing it, though. Especially since there's apparently a new theme tune, and there's some little changes made that make explicit ties to RTD's era on the TV show. Which is going to make some fans happy, and piss off others. In the latter case, that's their problem if they don't like it. I became a fan during RTD's era, but personally, these changes don't bug me. Especially since I never got to read the original novel.

well considering the current production team has now included the LC in canon... my own personal cannon is going to be only the adapted books....i still remember that fandom by the end of RTD was bitching up a storm about him and hailing Moffat as the second coming; RTD did the right thing and left the stage when he should have as Verity;Barry and Phillip did ..... moff is in danger of becoming the JNT of the new series ...

Thanks a lot DW for another great DL.
Unfortunately I do have a problem with the first address, the one with the dramas.
The second address worked great as usual with SS.
But the first one took me took a page somewhat different then the usual one on SS.
And what I got from the DL was a strange looking icon that when it was double clicked went to a window that asked "Do want your computer changed to accept this, or words to that effect.
I answered yes and got very antagonistic image that when clicked set my computer into a bit of frenzy.
When I tried to DL a second time, I got the same strange icon.
Don't know why I getting this result other then I'm stateside and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if you DW could be so good as to possibly rectify that for me.
Since I would obviously love to have the episodes too and not just the extras.

buzzco (and anyone else who finds the same thing), that does happen sometimes. I don't know why, but something like once in a dozen times following a sendspace link I'll wind up at that spam-ish variation. A simple refresh should do the trick, or follow the original link again. I've been re-reading the series too. I know exactly which book you are talking about and boy was it terrible. Also, there was a missed opportunity for a great self-fulfilling prophecy-type ending. Just finished it. It reminds me of that episode of Big Bang Theory where Amy watches Raiders of the Lost Ark and points out that Indy had no impact on the final resolution of the film. Perhaps Benny's actions got the android to the right place but the medic was just a bystander to the whole damn thing. The red herring was pointless from both sides of the story, the characters flat and uninteresting, and the subplots basically ignored and pointless by book's end. What a piece of crap. Here's hoping the next is better.

Hi peeps.

As someone who has never read any of the novels could some of you that have do a top 5 list for the New, missing, past and eighth ranges. Would be really interested to read some of your suggestions ? X thanks xAfter having completed the NSA range I can tell you it's not terribly exciting. Most of the books are short and lack the spark that would make me recommend them to anyone. I feel they're crippled by the beebs attempt to keep them within the reading range of the show's youngest viewers. I actually find it baffling how these authors, many of who have written fantastic audios, could produce such mediocre stories. That said, a short list would go something like this:
3. Losers win Nothing. Feels just like an episode.
7. The Concrete Flower. Ditto, even has a paradox ending. (Not that that's necessarily a good thing.)
37-48. Even shorter and while unsatisfying, somehow better than previous attempts.
S4. Motor of Peace. Absolutely fantastic! The shining gem in the series. Continuity heavy with the 20th special referenced frequently.

On the flip side, the S1 story Coming of the Earthlings was the worst of the lot. Nothing to recommend it at all. Ever.

On another note: Most of the Torchwood books were great. 1-3 were trying to be a bit adult like season one but it doesn't hurt the stories which were longer than the NSAs. 4-6 were shorter and somewhat blander but 7-15 were still better than most NSAs. The prequels were all right. The final novel co written by the Captain himself was some of the worst confusing drivel I've read recently and the huge plot hole concerning what happened to him the first time around make me want to bash the editor's head in.

Listening to Distressed Possessions. It's pronounced Shvey, not Kwedge. I can't remember which book that was in, but I do remember the statement.

A quick Wikipedia check says that most people mispronounce his name and he lets it slides because it becomes tiresome to always correct them.

If the author had one ounce of creative narrative structure, that could have ended with a dark self-fulfilling prophecy in which the Medic's very actions causes the destruction. Also, William Blake? Sine the author was going for a Dante's Inferno type imagery wouldn't having Dante as the Medic's companion be more appropriate? Hell, even Virgil would have worked. That would have added some meta layering to the story. Nope, can't have that. Not just the author, but the editors really dropped the ball with that one and that was at a time when they were publishing only one novel a month so no excuse really.

I've read about half of the NA's and MA's, about 1/3 of the 8DA's and the PDA's, plus all of the NSA's other than two of the latest.

I definitely liked the NSA's a lot more than DrakeRavensmith, especially after the first dozen or so. At about two dozen, they really started to get good, IMHO.

If I had to name favorites, here's what I would list in each series, by number:

NSA: 25, 29 (A MUST for any Donna fan, with an amazing epilogue to her time with the Medic), QR1, 47 (not sure of the number on that, but it's the one with the statues, and one of my favorites of all time!)
The two hardcover books with the 2nd and 3rd Medics were really good, especially the latter!
NA's: 2 (Dicks at his best!), 8, 19, 30
8DA's: 2, 6, 15, 25/26

But it's really the NA's and PDA's I've enjoyed the most. Not just because they recapture the classic eras, but because they often do things that they would never have tried on the show!
MA's: 3 (one of my all time favorites, for so well creating a completely alien, yet totally believable world!), 9, 15, 22, 24, 25, 28, 32, and the special one with the dead US president.
PDA's: 6, 7, 9, 19, 21, 26, 28, 35 (BEST time travel story ever!), 67, 69

Hope this helps.

My opinions on the novel audios;
The RTD Story was a fine example of RTD writing. Clearly written for the Dark Era of the 7th's books. My only real issue with it at all is that it is full of the only kind of families that RTD seems to be able to write; heterosexual dysfunctional and homosexual couples that have small problems but either come out or End Up Happy in the end. I have nothing against either hetero or homo, but I feel like constantly writing the same two family units is REALLY hamming up things.

I had to get that out of the way, because how someone writes the Little Guys is always important to me when I am reading (for an easy example, where would Harry Potter be without all the little background characters in his life. Or Roland without Sheemie, etc etc).

The GarethR story, however, I found to be amazing. I can't even find any complaints. Tom has really come into the role again and the story itself is equally great. Also, it features probably the best Alien in the franchises history. Aside from Frobisher.

i haver to agree with both..assessment... with the RTD families thing it is so much that RTD was reopeating himself here but this was his template style when he started --and this was around the time he was doing QAF and thinking he would never get to write TV WHo ever since it was gone.
taking ideas and style from his NA work and using it in the series can be forgiven [ a pretty unique circumstance ]

Roberts feel right at home in this era of the Doctor and i guess that was the last of his 3..... the other NA i would love to see adapted is the Shadow Weng-Chinag

Un, you really haven't read much of RTD's writing outside of Who, have you? NONE of his couples are in terribly healthy relationships! In fact, look to his gay-specific series Queer as Folk and the VERY recent Cucumber for the best examples.

Not sure where you came up with that, but Martha's leaving was always planned as the end of her travels with the TARDIS. The entire point of her arc was that she wasn't going stay around to just pine over the Doctor.

As for Donna, she was never planned to come back. In fact, he started writing the new companion, and kept realizing how similar she was to Donna (and even described her as very like Donna -- it's very detailed in RTD's book about the series), until he finally decided, why not just try to get Catherine Tate back. He didn't think she'd do the series, but was happily surprised when she did.

However, Martha was supposed to be a more permanent addition to TW. But then I believe she got offered other roles. Ironically, if she'd stayed on, there's a chance she might have made it to Hollywood, after TW started being filmed here. Maybe she'd have been discovered and made it big here? At least she'll be on Sense8 soon!

I haven't seen Cucumber, but I HAVE seen QaF and I will concede your point on that. However, many of the things he writes are social commentary on his own lifestyle and how it should not be vilified because the way other people live is worse. That is what I have an issue with.

She got shafted by the fact that she "wasn't Rose" in the end, not to mention it is very difficult to share center stage with DT when everyone is expecting you to just be a replacement for Rose. Much better and stronger character in TW on her own.

I find it interesting that for audio the pairing of the 4th Medic and the Savage is making me love that TARDISteam more than i did when it was just video.
It is a shame that we were going to have a 4th-Sarah reteam on audiio and it never happened.

Now can somnone explain the placement of the audio Go 4th Medic series? he is obviously alone, and no canine... so it it right before Hand of Fear? or after time Invasion before he assemble the tin dog?

as for the 4th medic series ...... we have 2 season of Time Lady II coming up right?
I wonder if they would think of making and 4th Medic Math Genius season set between the 4th medic's last 2 stories...

or the 4th medic really is the last to have an original audio companion

I'm not having such issues, because I don't use quicktime, but my suggestions would be:

The file may be imperfectly encoded. Try converting the audio file to something else, like .wav or .mp3, then back to .m4b so you've got a pure encode.
Quicktime may be irretrievably broken. Use VLC instead (much more forgiving of imperfect files).
It may be a driver needs updating.

My chronology has them just after Invasion of Time. Works okay.

I've noticed that my computer says that some audio files are 'protected' iTunes format. Which means they may or may not play, depending on the DRM that has been encoded into them. (And because they are often single big files, they are over the 'free conversion limit' for the site I use, so that is that. If they had been the original LC multi file format, no problem.) This is not a criticism of the generous people who choose to share their files.

Try Adobe Audition + apple quicktime vuplayer.com (http://www.vuplayer.com/audition.php)
I'll probably never transcode lossy to lossy again because of quality degradation but holy crap does Audition appear to transcode between literally every format ever without touching a conversion site:

In! Batch! Format!
I've tried ALAC to mp3 and FLAC to mp3 so far but it should do all the formats (since it imports .m4b once the qt is installed it should be able to convert)

I haven't seen Cucumber, but I HAVE seen QaF and I will concede your point on that. However, many of the things he writes are social commentary on his own lifestyle and how it should not be vilified because the way other people live is worse. That is what I have an issue with.

Sorry, but I think that you're showing your own agenda here, rather than Russell's.

Can you find ANY time that Russell has EVER said ANYTHING of the sort? In fact, he's specifically said that he likes wringing about messed-up dysfunctional people because they make more interesting drama.

You certainly can't infer it from anything he's written. His stories are full of messed up characters and dysfunctional relationships on all sides of the aisle.

You seem to have gone into this story looking for this agenda. Because you claimed, "My only real issue with it at all is that it is full of the only kind of families that RTD seems to be able to write; heterosexual dysfunctional and homosexual couples that have small problems but either come out or End Up Happy in the end. I have nothing against either hetero or homo, but I feel like constantly writing the same two family units is REALLY hamming up things. "

What's bizarre about it is that THERE ARE NO GAY COUPLES IN THIS STORY. Now I've only listened to the audio, 3/4 of the way through so far. And I haven't read the book. But the ONE gay character in the story is very distinctly single. He makes a point of mentioning that his roommate is just a roommate and was previously married to a woman. He hits on Chris, at no point even realizing that Chris has no idea what he's talking about or possibly even that he's being hit on. (Although in the book, they have sex.) And since THIS is the RTD story we're talking about here, and since YOU brought it up, I'm curious as to how we're getting "homosexual couples that have small problems but either come out or End Up Happy in the end" here when there are NO actual gay couples at all!!! A one time encounter isn't exactly a gay couple!

But even looking at his larger body of writing, there is no evidence to any sort of "agenda" or "social commentary" of this sort, other than showing that gay people and gay couples EXIST. Queer as Folk is full of messed-up people and couples, as you've conceded. There are no happy gay couples that end up happy in it. Cucumber focuses on a gay couple going through tragic mid-life crisis. Those are his two big GAY shows, and there we don't see those happy gay couples in them at all.

There aren't gays in The Second Coming. And there really aren't any more examples of happy gay couples in his entire 5 years of Doctor Who than there of happy straight couples. I mean, what do we have for couples? The ladies in Gridlock who get maybe two minutes of screen time, about the same as the cat guy and the woman? The lesbian in midnight, who mentions it briefly, then never again?

Maybe you could count Jack and Ianto, though that was on Torchwood. But even there, we have one omnisexual guy who's had dozens of relationships over the years, most of which don't seem to end well. And another guy who isn't even gay and says he's basically Jack-o-sexual and previously dated a woman. And as a result of a massive miscalculation on Jack's part (I mean, really, the 4-5-6 threatened to kill everyone in the building, and Jack basically just said "I dare you"), he got his partner killed. Not exactly the happy ending, right?

So, where based on ANYTHING that Russell has written, can you infer that his writing is "social commentary on his own lifestyle and how it should not be vilified because the way other people live is worse." That makes absolutely no sense. And is not supported by anything in his actual writing.

Or is this YOUR social commentary?

Sorry to go off on this, but I find the continual notion that any time a gay person writes about gay people that it's "social commentary" or worse the "gay agenda" to be incredibly offensive, not to mention nonsensical. Good writers write about all kinds of people. That's what Russell does. To reduce his writing to "social commentary" that he himself never intended is reactionary and reeks of an agenda of its own. Sure, there's plenty of social commentary in his writing. But "we're better than you" is NOT part of it!

She got shafted by the fact that she "wasn't Rose" in the end, not to mention it is very difficult to share center stage with DT when everyone is expecting you to just be a replacement for Rose. Much better and stronger character in TW on her own.

But wasn't that kind of the point? On paper, she was every bit a better companion than Rose could ever hope to be. But Rose -- through some combination of how she was written, and how Billie acted as her -- had that special undefinable something that only comes along once in a very blue moon. But Martha knew she was good. And it's not like the Doctor treated her badly. But he didn't LOVE her the away that she perhaps loved him -- precisely because he couldn't yet get over Rose. So, she did the only smart thing that someone can do in that situation: she got out of it. Later, when the feelings on both sides weren't so fresh, they were able to work together better.

that is what i got out of it...she was the better companion in every way; she was the one that not only had the knowledge but made the right decisions when Rose made the wrong ones. ; Rose was selfish to the point that she was churlish toward Mickey;Jack; and even Sarah Jane and didn't even stop to think of her mother. Martha did . She acted to the good of others before herself and continued to do so.... it was a lovely touch that she and Mickey ended up getting married.

as for actor timing issues......

it would have been great to see a Torchwood 3 season that featured

Jack ; Ianto; Gwen ;Martha; Jake; Mickey and Rhys ...as it was we got Martha in those 3 episodes of Torchwood and 1 audio Martha's part in Children of Earth was reworked into Lois ... and the plans for Jake and Mickey dropped.

Seconded!
The cat one is actually called "The Cat Who Walked Through Time" and is exceedingly rare. That and Tales of the Solar System seem to be the hardest to find of them in any format. I don't believe that most of these have been scanned by anyone as of yet. But if they have been, I'm sure most of us would want them!

I think it suits the story perfectly. Though because it is so heavily influenced by the John Debney theme it makes me want to place the tale near the end of sevens tenure.

I'd already had it towards his later years, but think I may bump it right to the end due to the, as you say, very Debney-like theme.

I am super excited about this. Also, Scorchies back!

As for the new theme for the RTD story, they did it so that people are "aware" it is his story. Note that it is pretty much just a slight remix of the theme during his time on the tv series. Also, it's almost shamefully clear how big a fan-wank that story was for the LC people, even though I'd argue they are at least as worthy of praise for giving us a REAL era of #6, an actual era for #8, and bringing #4 back into the fold

hes just finished narrating Mark Gaitiss's Last of the Gaderene which is out is May but hes very proud of his work and is not happy that the whole read had to be put down in just two days , so its got to be pretty much right first time.
He also said that BF dont pay a great deal for the recordings but they provide an excellent lunch and everyone loves being a part of the Dr Who family.
He also explained how having been bought in as the love interest for J@ Grant, JP was less than keen for it to happen and put the brake on quite a lot of it :)
I know its now strictly audio download business but I thought you might enjoy the share.

Which line do you mean? DW's licensed for another five years?

Wonder if they'll still do CDs for conventions? By all account they sell quite a few which (conveniently!) get signed by the cast.

They really should look to Print On Demand for those that still want a physical product.

Hmm. Reading the news properly you may well be right. Shame as on the whole they've been pretty darn good.

Surely what they are saying is that they are remaindering the earlier stuff, which when the CDs run out will then become download only - not the whole Bloke's library ... so it only effects the full cast series 1, LC 1-6 and books 1-5.

i rerad it as they were switching to download only on the Bloke's line.... I have a feeling chronicles will be phased out

They are talking more about logistical space in their facilities. They are phasing out Bloke's entire library of physical discs and converting them to download only in order to make physical inventory room for new franchises. This might seem sort of crazy, but when you think of all the variable sizes of the physical boxes we have seen lately it makes sense to remove a lower value product for the larger, more popular items.

As for them killing the series off entirely, you never know. Going from physical and digital to just digital cuts some significant manufacturing costs. This could be an attempt to save space and keep the line going with a reduced overhead.

Yeah, that's exactly what the website says.
They don't talk about killing off the series, they are only reducing the price of the first cast ceres and first 6 kronikels ceres, and books. That's basically the same process they've had for the early medic main releases. The main range is still going strong, has had multiple extra box releases and other spin offs, so I don't read it as them killing off the line.
They've had complaints in the past about not notifying people when old cd ranges have been destocked with no plan to restock, so they're just making people aware so they can get them in now if the want them.
The reduced prices are also more likely to entice people to buy rather than get from sharing sites. 50 local currency units for all of the first kronikels ceres together is a pretty good deal if you ask me.....now all I need is a bit of spare ca$h....main range subscription, boxsets and spinoffs are all taking their toll at the moment! But isn't it nice to have this problem? I'd rather there be heaps of stock that I still need to get than not having anything produced at all......one day I'll be in the situation of having achieved a purchase of all their medic and bl@kes ranges!

you can delete the text in your post, but posts themselves are almost never deleted.

if you don't want to delete the post, what you can do is edit it to have the term RWQ somewhere in the text (probably at the very end), and then insert the character < at the start of the line you want invisible.

LC has posted the trailer for The Third Medic Adventures, which features the first full listen of TimT as #3.

You can check it out here The Third Doctor Adventures (Volume 1) - Doctor Who - Special Releases - Big Finish (http://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-third-doctor-adventures-volume-1-1158)

My view
It's passable. Seems like he goes in and out of character a bit. I guess it is probably the best we can expect.

I just listened to it myself. I feel like he's got Pertwee's cadences down pat. I do agree that the voice is passable, though.

Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's probably as good as we're going to get. Better than the alternative of nothing. And better than the CC's, I think. And if it gives us more 3rd Medic stories, I'm all for it!

Dear Lord! If I had a *physical* copy of 'FP: Of the City of the Saved', I think I would have thrown it at the wall and, then after it was "good n' roughed up", I'd throw it down a well somewhere! I tried 5 (!) times to read this book, and it just got worse each time. I found the characters dull and hard-to-get-a-grasp-on - I actually didn't give a shit about *one* character in the first quarter of the book I tried to slog through! It's sad, because Mad Larry *raves* about this book, as do a number of other people. Ah well, I still have 'Warlords of Utopia' to go tackle..[COLOR="Silver"]

City is my favourite one. I've read it several times. Maybe it's something more about the worldbuilding than the actual story. Warring States is the one that always gets me. Twice I've tried, twice I've gotten bored before the halfway point.

The race of gender changers were a bit crazy, but I liked the idea of there being multiple Sherlocks and the concept of heaven. :P
What did you guys think of the fan Seasons of Fighting?
Personally I thought that the Co-ordinator was Narvin because of that pattern of speech. And one of the stories kept referencing the 'Enemy' which I suppose is a sideways nod to the Faction Paradox maybe. What did everyone else think?

No, the Enemy isn't FP. They're... something else. FP are one of the smaller wartime groups, out to take what they can get and fulfill their own agenda. LM once revealed (http://sci-fi-london.com/podcast/2013/12/420-lawrence-miles) who they were, but I think he was taking the piss. Anyone interested in my theory?

Yeah I miswrote it. But do you reckon that the Enemy in Seasons is the same as the Enemy in the EDAs or something else?

Yes. LM came up with FP and all its associated ideas. Then he took them all into a spinoff series, which continues. I haven't read past the Holmes one, though.

Thanks.
I'll give a listen.
Three is an odd duck medic for me, because of the military partnership and totally dismissive attitude. Although it is his caring and "human"nature that wins him over for me.

The advent of the release of medic adventures for those whose portrayers that have gone on to their final adventure only makes me long for the Son of TROUT-TON to voice his father's incarnation.
Scotts-lad does a fine job, but Trout-ton HAS his father's voice, and nothing brings me more satisfaction than hearing old Patrick.
As soon as I hear him, my whole essence just relaxes and I smile.
LOVED the second medic.
