Thank you so much to everybody ooo have been upping stuff the last few days/weeks/months and even years , my pitiful wage and having to look after my little boy and wife would never give me the opportunity to enjoy so many adventures.

I feel like I need to give something back and although this is available on beeb eyeplayer it is in the public domain. Its a few minutes of the 6th medic on whoa-gun from 1986, I have to say the rest of the show looks quite good too but if you are interested in Col's small bit it is exactly 10 mins 40 secs in... Enjoy

When you're copying the link from your folder, you have to push the button link + decryption key, and then copy.

It's moronic.

I have no idea why mega thinks this is a good idea.

The link without the decryption key is ####ing useless.

My links for the Battle Medic got taken down after only 2 days, though I've received no notification or whatever. Has this happened to anyone else using Sendspace? Experiences? How worried should I be?

Have you accidentally or deliberately enabled download limits? Either by duration or number of downloads?

(Sorry, this may seem patronizing, but it's also thorough.)

Right click get link.

There are three options for exportation.

1. link without key.

2. Decryption key.

3. Link with key.

Number 3 should get you where you want to go.

Of course if you did that and it still didn't work, it's possible you have a stuck key on your keyboard like "ctrl" or shift" or 'tab" and you have to clean underneath it with a butter knife.

It's also possible that your browser is slightly incompatible with mega since mega upgraded everything.

I have the latest firefox and the latest chrome and they both work fine, but if you are keeping with an older browser for very, very good reasons, that may explain why the interface is not working as well as you want it to.

Updating an existing browser or downloading/installing a new secondary back up browser should fix these problems, just be careful when the browsers start to fight and they both take turns asking you "Do you want me to be your default browser?" because it's like being the prettiest girl in school a month before Prom.

If you're still using Internet Explorer, I'm going to have to double facepalm.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox on a Mac and nothing appears at all when I do a right-click (no matter where I put the cursor).

It's okay. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate your efforts but I'll just wait until someone else puts it up again or it appears in one of the other places.

Same here. Feels like a nice bridge between the 8th Movie theme and the '05 theme.

(Especially compared to the alternate 8th theme for Shelly that starts really well but gets over-egged towards the end.)

But when you get it right, which isn't that hard, it's fast as sin.

Send space links crawls along 30 times slower (30 KBS is around about 30 times slower than 1MBS. YMMV.) and then sendspace has data limits that kick in at 300 megs an hour and 1 GB a day.

Also Megalinks do not expire.

I feel I should give a warning about Mega.
Kim Dotcom lost control of it a little while ago, when a fraudster bought up a controlling share. Since then said scam artist's assets have been seized by the New Zealand government; as such, it is not wise to trust that Mega's encryption is effective or that your files are in any way safe from interference.

I'm using mega to share, but I still have everything on a hard drive or a dvd, for in case mega flops.

(I doubt I'd have the will to upload everything again.)

As long as they don't delete my data or flash it in front of people who might alert the copyright holders, I'm mostly fine.

The only people that should be concerned are the idiots using mega for their business, or and this happened before, but there were several schools, and a couple universities keeping course work on megupload when it failed.

So they might have them and they might not. I suppose the only way to find out (well, find out for sure, anyway) is to buy the first episode and see. Either way I was considering getting them anyway for the sake of better audio quality than the ones I got.

EDIT: Is it wrong that I edited the two parters together because I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the format (1-hour episodes)?

Yes - I went to this as a five year old, and have the the most distant memory of it. I'm pretty certain there wasn't video footage - there was ( I think - this is over four decades ago) a large photograph of Martini's face on a big screen behind the stage (with possibly a photo of Pear Tree as well in a before/after kind of way, though I'm hazy on this), with Martini himself lying on the floor in front of it, with music and and flashing lights. That's my very distant memory of it, and I don't recall any moving pictures at all.

But as a man once said - 'the memory cheats'...

Thanks Big Mocha, so no film footage as you recall, and the way you remember it does seem very plausible, I suppose it wouldn't have been a huge budget production so still photography and simple effects would have been the obvious way to convey a regeneration. Thanks for sharing your memory of it.

according to some reports there was filmed footage

That's not the same article I read, so that means it was widely believed that a filmed regeneration was used at the beginning, but as Big Mocha was there and remembers differently, is it possible that the production had to change for some reason part way through it's run?

Thanks Waterboat, at least you've proved my memory isn't playing tricks or that I dreamed the whole thing up.

From The Seventies by Howe, Stammers and Walker:

'The aforementioned giant screens were placed either side of the stage and showed landscapes and other images as the story progressed. They were also used to achieve the regeneration of the Doctor from Jon Pertwee to Trevor Martin at the very start of the play. "We had to start off with me looking like Jon Pertwee," explains Trevor Martin "and then going through one of those Doctor Who transformation scenes - turning myself into me!"

Wow, that's interesting, thanks del. So it does seem that a regeneration scene was created and played or projected onto a screen.

I've spent most of the evening really trying to remember now! I'm absolutely certain there wasn't any video footage of Jon PearTree - if you put a gun to my head, I'd say I'm 90% certain there wasn't even a picture of PearTree. Irritatingly, it was so long ago, and I was so young I can't commit to anything really - there may well have been video footage of PearTree, but it's really not my recollection. I remember being slightly disappointed (at my very young age, and idolising PearTree at the time) that PearTree wasn't in it even as a picture. I *think* and that really is the operative word - that there were pictures of Martini on the screens, dressed in a Pear Tree like costume/wig (shades of Time and the BadTimeLady here) flickering into pictures of Martini. One thing I'm categoric about, was that Martini was lying on the floor of the stage in front of the screens while this was happening. If I had to put money on it, I still think it was a collection of still pictures rather than filmed footage - but with all the caveats I've already expressed attached.
Looking back, I was fairly privileged to have been there - so thanks to my long suffering mother!

Welcome back Exterminate Me, it's been quiet without you!

It's good to be back. It wasn't quiet where we stayed though - woken up each morning by the chickens clucking, roosters crowing, pigs snorting, dogs barking, all at sunrise. The humans don't seem to like sleeping in over there either.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. I've been awake since 4:30am, Sunday morning. It's now Wednesday morning, 1:23am. I desperately need sleep..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....oh, you get the picture!

BTW, Changi Airport, Singapore - a massive airport (well it took us ages to get to a gate we needed to board at on the way over. Seriously, I could have done with a motor scooter to get around in). I also scored myself a plush R2 D2 for $9 (Sin - same rate as Aust) - I wasn't supposed to have it though. I saw a sign saying Star Wars plush figures, $9, exclusive to Changi Airport, just show your passport. When I went up the girl asked me for my receipt. I asked "What receipt?". Turns out I needed to spend $100 in one transaction (or total purchases in the airport, one of the two). They let me have it, even though I hadn't spent anything at that point. That was nice of them. I later saw a big advertisement on a wall stating what I'd been told, these details being absent from the kiosk display. When we arrived at the airport yesterday they had another advertisement on the wall, in a different area, with pictures of all the plush Star Wars figures, with the dates each would be available. The R2 D2 one was listed as being on the 18th December - I got mine given to me on the 7th. I was happy!

Anyone seen the latest Star Wars yet? And what did you think of it? I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow, in Fremantle, so I'm hoping to persuade the missus to come and watch it with me tomorrow. Hey, it's Sci-Fi - quite relevant to the medic (actually, I was almost going to type in "Revelant" instead of "Relevant" - I almost did a Billy H!).

Sorry for prattling on. Ah, I really need sleep, before those pink elephants start to make me hallucinate...

Actually, I was only seeking people's feelings on it. Of course everybody is entitled to their own thoughts on it, just as they are on medic episodes and LC stories. I am sure that people are not going to put spoilers of the movie up.

For the fact that people feel better about this movie as opposed to the prequels pretty much answers my question.

Well, I'll add what I have to say - now THAT was a Star Wars movie Mr Lucas.

It was so good to see some actual acting in this one, with better dialogue, and characters you care about. It was good to see the camera move around too, unlike the restrictive shots in the prequels. Well done Mr Abrams. Can't wait for the next one now.

Really enjoyed it in 3D too. There was one particularly good Star Destroyer shot I liked. I also managed to get my wife to come with me and watch it (though she didn't say much about the movie - Sci-Fi's really not her thing!).

It's still a good deal; half of the titles are now digital exclusives anyway as the CD is out of print. It would be fantastic if it were a CD deal - but it would probably bankrupt LC and HB in the process, and I never play CDs anyway - their only use is for ripping at lossless audio (which isn't much use given my audio system anyway). The only positive of CDs for me is the sleeve notes - which aren't on LC's more recent releases anyway.

I kinda hate how things are going all digital, but I understand why. I would like a system to be in place for digital only releases, but for those who want it, pressings on demand of a physical product. And I'm talking a proper CD, not the type that we whip up and produce ourselves and a proper booklet/ sleeve notes.

I also worry, if a company should go under, with digital releases, that if something were to happen to your hard drive you'd be stuffed (unless you made so many back-ups in so many formats). At least, with a CD, it's only your own mishandling of the CD that usually affects how long it lasts.

Yeah, a big pet peeve of mine too. I have that problem with a lot of the prequels and its over-reliance on CGI - it just didn't look "dirty" enough. I hated that there were so many CG "people" - not many of the Clone Troopers were "real", for example. Our brain and eyes can detect the unreality of the CGI in the prequels. The environments in the new film felt really organic, physical, real (it certainly didn't overly rely on CGI environments, as I felt the prequels did). Though CGI has come a long way since the first prequel and, indeed the last prequel.

I've never really understood the logic of that argument.
If you buy a digital release you burn it to HD or CD yourself - as an mp3 (or converted to other format) or a regular audio CD.....and, as you say, make as many back up copies as you want. If the company goes bust you've still got the disc(s).

If you buy a regular CD you can convert it to digital and make backups. If the company goes bust you've still got the disc(s).

Where's the real difference?

FLAC. When you rip from a CD you get the lossless format whereas if you burn the audio to a CD it will be a lossy 256kbps or 128 kbps which you cannot transcode into anything without loss of integrity. (even a 256 kbps mp3 to a 256 kbps m4a results in data loss, for example.)

Remember that the EU is confirmed as having never been canon.
Ouch, I feel sorry for the SW fans. ;_; By any chance would anyone happen to know any good EU stories for SW?

I watched TFA by the way:
Wasn't a huge fan of it because of all the rehashing, made it feel more like a fanfic/homage than a proper story. It could have used new, more different plot points and less filler for example the tentacled monster which took up a big chunk of the movie. I also felt that it was fairly short and could have used more world building. That being said having more SW is better than having no SW at all. Kyl0 and R3n do have potential I hope they get developed later on. The death of x hit me quite hard, that was a well acted scene.

Maybe so, but that is a different argument to the idea of losing your content if the company goes bust.
Also, in this bundle's case, you can get the digital files as mp3 or lossless flac.

Merry Christmas (and Happy Boxing Day, for those across the Atlantic)!

So, I made out well this morning. My wife surprised me with 3 ClassicMedic DVDs, "Attack of the Silver Folk", "[Episode Where SJS Leaves Scarfy Medic]", and "Murdering Robots Aboard A Sandminer". A bit TV'ed out at moment, as I watched the whole disc for "Attack of..", including the special bits (no, not looking at Ms. Brown's highly accentuating upper region!). You know, it has some bits where are just okay, but overall, I still quite like it! That one, along with "The Two Medics" and "Mark of the..", rank as my three favorite sixie stories! And while I know most in Medic fandom think pretty lowly of Seric Eward, but after seeing him in the special bits, man, he's an ass! Makes me glad I never met him at any of the conventions!

Technically, he directed the first and third, and Ken Bentley handled the middle one. However, it does seem LC is utilizing him for more of the monthlies. Probably to give Mr. Bentley more of a break to direct other stuff like Eight's "Death Militia" box sets.

I feel bad for EU SW fans that their canonicity has been dropped.

It does suck, but I understand why they did it, and for the most part, I agree. So much had gone on in the EU beyond ep 6, especially the NJO series (which I loved), that would have severely limited what the films could have been, had they tried to acknowledge it all, not to mention confusing the bejabbers out of people who hadn't read the books. This way, the filmmakers have creative freedom, and they are free to pick elements from the EU that they want to include.

What sucks more to me, is that it seems like we're never going to get any more material set in the original EU continuity, which is now called Legends.

Star Wars tie-ins were never canonical, despite all the talk from the licencing people about "levels of canon." George Lucas had his canon -- the movies. That was it.

I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions. - George Lucas, from an interview in Starlog #337

Obviously things are different now, and they'll be different again.

Neither is the classic era's audience.

An excellent point. I'm almost exactly as old as the show itself (I was born a month before the first episode aired), and I must confess I am no longer a spry youngster with a celery in my lapel. And I feel rather nettled when people criticize the current Medic - only 5 years older than I am - as "too old"! So LC does indeed need to aim at younger audiences ....

I'm not sure "younger" is really the right word. Lets say, for the sake of argument, that NuFans that have stuck with the series the same way Classic fans did were aged between 10 and 20 when the Nu series started. They're now in their 20s to 30s. Probably not that much younger than when the original LC team started using tapes to record their original stories ...

Exactly. I think it would be remiss to lump everybody under 40 into the same category, too. Many of my friends are in their early 20s, and were introduced to the Medic after 2005. Those who loved it enough to enjoy spin-offs tracked down the classic episodes first. Even the president of my city's Medic fan club is in her 20s.

I don't think LC needs to capture the hearts of 20 to 30-year-old Medic fans. I bet any young Nu Medic fan who is willing to listen to audio spin-offs of the new series would be more compelled to watch the classic series first, and I'll also bet many would get hooked on it as equally as the New. With the large number of 20-30s in our club, and having been the only 10-year-old in my class who had watched ANY Medic (let alone joined the classic Medic fan club) during the Great Drought of 1996-2005, I'd say it's the 8-12 year olds that need convincing of the classic's value.

Just thought I'd say that there are a ton of younger Classic Medic fans, in fact most young kids who came into it around the 50th got into the Classics through all the callbacks, and have taken a liking to those Medics. I also know a fair few LC fans my age, and I'm 17. While I'm positive the revival stuff is giving it a boost, I'm sure that there was already a large amount of younger people enjoying them. In fact most of the people I know who dismiss the Classic Eras as "old" are 40+, and a lot of them even consider Green-Height Challenged to be practically ancient (At only 27! I don't even consider the Blonde Idealic Family Group of Bananas + their Maid that!).

I wasn't thinking so much of getting the newer listeners into the Classic series, but more that there's now a new market for Nu stuff that it would be short-sighted of LC ignore now they've got the chance. If that leads them to the Classic series (in all formats) that's great.

And it sort-of works the other way. Older Classic fans that really don't get on with the TV series may get to enjoy Nu works as LC (how to phrase this) give characters the ol' Sixy treatment by sanding-off some of the courser edges and giving a new set of characters a chance to grow.

kimekaro
12-28-2015, 05:51 PM
So, I freely admit I am not a fan of The Medics Wife... pretty much because of that one aspect being what they have used to define her in the show. But here is my view of the recent LC adventures of said person;
This audio set is what the Charlie set should have been but wasn't.

As for the whole Nu debate going on; I am fine with it. Honestly, LC has writers with far more freedom than the tv series does. They have no real obligation to make it a space romance - for instance. So I think that a lot of the characters from the new stuff could have an opportunity to really shine brighter than they are allowed to in the visual medium.

THAT SAID, my kids really like the audio adventures of the older cast. Their ages are 6 and 9 respectively. I think cutting off those medics in favor of the new ones is the smarter way to grandfather in the NuWho-only fans, but I also think they need to keep going with the classic Medics for the simple reason that has sustained shows like Space Trek, Space Wars, Transformers and any number of other things; it isn't the high quality of the new stuff -though some of it IS high quality - its we parents/grandparents that indoctrinate our kids into liking the old stuff that keeps it fresh, and that will be where the majority of the fanbase for long-term programs always thrives.

I'd agree with kimekaro that - part of the problem is the Medic's Wife is she is, purely defined on TV by her relationship with the Medic. Take the Medic away and you've pretty much got Bertrice Summerpitch. I've only listened to the first story on the Dairy of the Medic's Wife boxset, but it sounded like Mrs Medic and Bertrice, as characters, were completely interchangeable

Star Wars tie-ins were never canonical, despite all the talk from the licencing people about "levels of canon." George Lucas had his canon -- the movies. That was it..
Just because Lucas ignored the various spin off material doesn't mean they weren't canon. It means that Lucas is god of his franchise and he can do whatever he wants. That's as it should be. That said, he had no problem with material being canon until he started to produce new movies. Even then, he didn't care. The writers just retconned everything so it would continue to fit.

It does suck, but I understand why they did it, and for the most part, I agree. I completely agree. I would rather that they declare Legends to be an alternate universe and continue to produce material for it. I understand that the next book series would have been Sword of the Jedi. It infuriates me that we will likely never see that trilogy. NJO fans may recall that several books in the series were cancelled because the prequel stuff wasn't selling that well. So they cancelled books that were selling well to push titles that weren't. Because that makes sense.

Hope Everyone had a good holiday season. I got my presents and it seems the spark in my life has gone out [meds work and something about absolute power]

and since the last of the December releases are out time to look ahead to January

Non Medic Releases:
Number 6 ....LC style - Volume 1 ... the excerpt was rather good and well see how the whole set goes
Steed & Company - Volume 5 this has been solid over the past four sets and looks to continue that trend

Nu-Who Related :
Burning Trees Season 1 part 5 sees Johnny B back as Jack in an Uncanny Valley
Sir Winston and his box set are also released [and the way they describe it it is CC style]

both the Monthly Medic and the Short Stumbles feature the 5th Medic
Monthly -- The Princess and the Air Stewardess start their follow up trilogy from Holland
Trippy - The Schoolboy does a turn telling a tale from a Dead Garden.

Delayed from last Month :
Early Medics 2 : Scotsboy and Ms Herriot with Fraze's 2nd medic in the Metalmen Invasion followup

and finally the 4th Medic series starts of again this time with Time Lady #2 and the Tin dog

8 releases [another busy month] seems to be the norm rather than the exception now

Have Fun and Remember don 't be a Greedy Gastropod!!!!!!

Three years is pretty much the 'Tr0ught0n' Rule. To avoid typecasting.

I think it's the same old story... Trot'un got tired with the year round schedule, and as far as I know, so did ten-inch and Smitty. The quality of 12/13 episodes per year thesedays does show, unlike the short cuts and failings of the early years. But, people DO get tired, sadly despite their love and commitment to the role. I personally was very unsure of PC's casting, and I will freely admit, his tenure has grown on me, and will sad to see him leave, but, the show will go on. Just thinking out loud folks!

Yeah, I hear you. Mature gentlemen who have had a good run already and hopefully got past the 'oo I don't want to get typecast' bit, and are grateful for a decent role to top up the pension pot. PC is still raising his family, I think in London, so the months in Cardiff are probably a pain in the proverbial for him.

Charles Dance might be just a little too old, though.... although he'd make a great Med3 mark 2.

Ainley is wonderfully hammy in it.
I think this was an extra on one of the DVDs (A New Beginning boxset? Survival?)

Ahh.. 2015 is nearly over! A new Year lies ahead, with grand designs and bright ideas. I wish all of you a bright and happy Who Year! Be safe..

And, one last request for the year.. Does anyone have the Medic tale "The 4evah Tr@p" in non-m4b (individual tracks, mp3)? *hopeful* (fingers crossed and all that..)

I see that PC is already talking of leaving just as it feels that theyve got the writing together for him, shame .
maybe just one more full season with him then all change again?

dont think he actually announced he was leaving but heading into a third series it is either assumed it is his last or next to last.-- as one who wanted Smith to stick around 1 more series - would love to see a flip side to this Doctor, one that laughs and has fun. [much like the Christmas Special] it would be a great contrast to see a first episode and last episode that clearly shows a actor progression

You're welcome. Like 12, I'm not a hugger but I'll take it with the spirit that was intended.....or bourbon, I'm happy to take it with bourbon. Cheers!

Oddly, that was the best episode of Sherlock ever. SPOILER FREE:

Or not so oddly, given the setting, and more importantly, the order of the writing credits. This seemed to be way more Mark G. than Smoffat. Guess this is what he's been working on since his utterly brilliant Adv in Time/space docu-drama. While SM seemed to be focused on the medic.

Well thank goodness for small miracles. Because THAT was an utter joy to watch. Makes me wanna go back and watch the whole Jeremy Brett series all over again.

1st Medic Commentaries Pt 2 of 2: The CobWeb World - The 9+1 World

Orhan eps The Crusading Pt 3, The 9+1 World Animated Pt 4, Celatial ToyBringer Pt 4, and Pepperpot Masterplan 5 & 10 did not have commentaries
And no Commentaries for missing stories of course.

Also included a Document Guide to the commentaries that says who is speaking on what in case you're seeking out specific actors/wirters/producers.

Underliquid Menacing will go up in march once I get that release other that that- the Classic Medic Commentaries are done. I'll leave these links active for a couple of weeks before taking down.

I would say that's it- but a friend has graciously loaned me their NuMedic DVD Sets Series 1-4/specials (as Mine are only digital files), so I'll be upping Commentaries for 9th and 10th Medic Episodes. After that I may be done as I have the BD's of 11th and 12th Medic but no capability to Rip BD (rather than DVD).
