Ah-hem ...

Here's a question for folks ... how did you discover LC?

I knew of them when I began watching the new series, but I never really got into them until almost 3 years ago when I discovered download links for most of them on this one website. I proceeded to spend the good part of several days downloading them as many as I could and sorting them out in my music folder according to the info I gleaned from the TARDIS Wikia. Then, I asked some of my friends on Facebook who are fellow Who fans which ones to start with. I then proceeded to upload as many as I could of those recommendations onto my mp3 player to listen to while I was on a trip with my parents. I was hooked from my initial listening of "Jubilee", and have been a fan ever since. I honestly still haven't heard them all, so I tend to upload ones I haven't heard yet onto my mp3 player to buzz through while I'm at my volunteer work every Tuesday. This past Tuesday's listen was monthly #035 "...ish". I'm a big nut about words and language -mostly due to listening to George Carlin's comedy growing up- so this was a real riveting story for me. I'm undecided as to what I'll listen to this coming Tuesday, but I hope it'll keep my mind sharp as I work. :)

They used to advertise them in the back of the paperback beebe books, of which I was a devoted reader/collector. They were impossible to find in Nebraska, but I definitely wanted them from the beginning!

Like Jawamaster, the ads for 'LC were on the second page of the DMW, [being in Tasmania, you couldn't buy them...still can't], and so I bought them from eBay...

Heard mention of them on TvTropes. I liked nu-Who and was addicted to MMOs at the time, so I figured that the audios would be a good way to familiarise myself with the classic Docs while I ran on the virtual treadmill. Now that I've quit, I feel uncomfortable just sitting around listening to the audios without any sort of mindless activity to keep my hands busy. Maybe I should get myself a real treadmill.

Alexios
12-15-2013, 04:59 AM
Rhayn, I play games while listening too, though in this case it's usually Skyrim. Good to know I'm not the only one who needs to stay partially busy.

Me, I'd read about them back when there was a single Medic thread on TWOP. In fact, I started that thread. It doesn't say that now, there was a purge of old posts and my small contribution to the site was deleted. Either way, that's where I first heard about them. Later, I encountered the FP audios on the green demon. Later still, I found some of the Medic audios proper on either that or a similiar site. And then I discovered this thread...

Medic mag for me...been with them since the beginning.
used to buy them all, up till about five years ago and then because I was out of work for around a year, I had no choice but to stop.
In that time the range literally exploded, and now there are too many to buy! lol

That's pretty much my experience too, though I still buy the medic mag. Got the CDs that LC put out with the mag. When I got the internet, only three years ago, I "discovered" downloads. I spent my time downloading, but not listening much. It's only been this year that I started listening in earnest though.

Oddly enough, for me, it was through the Dave Ross audio. Distribution over the pond is spotty, so I thought that parts of the set were out of print and started looking for them digitally through... alternative means. I then stumbled across a toe runt that had almost everything LC until Sep 12 was it?

Which then led me here, to you fine lot :)

Yep, similar to jawa & EM. DWM & other mags. I was unemployed & couldn't afford 'em, but a good friend got them from #1 onwards, and shared them with the rest of us. It got harder once all the spin-offs came out, but somehow managed to keep up and, once that friend moved away, I had alternative means (cough, cough) of getting them.

I've been able to buy quite a few properly in the last year or so thru LC sales & e-bay, and it's my intention to keep doing so, as I really want to support them as much as possible whenever I'm able. They really did keep the flame alive during the 'dark days', and now keep the legacy of the 'old-skool' medics alive today (& 8's stuff is, of course, now offcially canon!!). So, no matter my thoughts on the quality of certain stories/ranges, or some of the people involved, I will always salute, defend & recommend them to anyone, for all the joy they've given to me and others, and what they've done for PMcG & Sixie, amongst others...

Long live LC!!

WinMX. I was getting all my audio drama from there and 10+ years ago I downloaded Dakel Epmire and Dakel War because each had multiple parts, and I wanted something LONG that week. Hilariously I'd also (for something like 3 years) been making a point to NEVER download anything Medic related. (There were hundreds of audio and video files popping up in WinMX search results with "Medic" in the title and I figured I would never find enough spare time to catch up if I got into the franchise this late in the game.) Not knowing what a Dalek is, however, I walked right into the trap. Been living in it ever since.

Back in 2002, 2003 I saw a few tapes in a Chain Book Store... I turned my nose up becuase I couldn't believe that they would have any better continuity than the novels, at 5 times the price, I turned my nose up and walked away.

False start.

I was just getting back into it after a hiatus, initially I was pretty disdainful of the new series, then I met #7 at a scifi con and he name dropped LC in the short conversation I had with him.

So I checked it out and bought a few before my job forced me to relocate a few years ago, then gravitated here out of a need to talk to fellow fans who were not insane in their internet conversation skills!

I'd never heard of them then saw them one day in Forbidden Planet - i've been a fan since 1979 when I was 5 years old and was pretty annoyed i'd gone through the entire hiatus unaware of LC!!!

Anyone remember DC++ ? I used to use it for "old time" radio shows. I came across some of the LC stuff and gave them a try and have been following them ever since. I had to give them up once I retired a while back, 'till I came across this place. Now I'm up to date on what I require.

Great stuffThanks to everyone.

Here's a question for folks ... how did you discover LC?

For me, it was in the dealer's room at a convention in Chicago over a decade ago. At that time, I think there was only about fourteen titles released. They did not have the 8th Medic on board yet. I always enjoyed old time radio shows like The Shadow, Superman, X-Minus One, Bold Venture (this one was with Bogart and Bacall and they are just as great together on the radio as they are on the silver screen), etc. So, with the Medic on audio I just couldn't resist giving it a try. Still can't resist.

I think it was episode 4 or 5 when I discovered them. I distinctly remember that the first one I heard was with Sylvester in it, and thinking that as I didn't care too much for him in the TV episodes, it wasn't going to be very exciting. How wrong I was! To this day, Sly is still my firm favourite audio character lead.

When did hotfile close down?

There's a you've been a naughty boy notice from the US Government on what used to be it's frontpage.

Before its closure, Hotfile accounted for approximately 2.9 billion downloads. Although it had received approximately 10 million DMCA takedown notices, Hotfile had only terminated 43 user accounts, according to the judge's August findings.

$80 US million payout.

Some say it's bankruptcy/shutting down rather than paying 80 million, and others are saying that it's 80 million AND closing down.

Here's a question for folks ... how did you discover LC?

For me, it was going to a BBC recording for a radio panel-show/sit-com thing (I can't remember the name) but one of the actors had to apologise prior to recording for being slightly gruff and off his game just a bit as he'd been "recording a fantastic comic character, who was The Law, all week"

This intrigued me and so when I got home I hit this new thing called Google and ... discovered all the rest of the stuff they did! I think, if memory serves, they'd probably just released that brilliant two-hander with PMcG+IF.

They're "coming soon" and "coming 2012" on the blog but I don't see any posts about them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A while back the pepperpots one got fully released on the common video sharing website and the wiping out complete species one got partly released - but the video website then removed them......never saw the incomplete one turn up in full.

Hello. I'm Nobber and I'm an LC addict.

I bought mine in FP, Shaftesbury Avenue. I'd been reading Auntie's series of EDAs and I found Sword of Orion, one of the first audios with McGann - I'd seen ads but wasn't sure if it was worth risking. But that day my curiosity got the better of me, and I picked up that one and a Davison, The Mutant Phase. And I was hooked. They'd been going just over a year at that point.

My first LC was Oh No It Isn't! bought directly from LC, who had a dealer's table in 1999 at the LAX con. I held off buying more and ended up as one of the lucky ones who bought the Rime Ting trilogy by mail order, and got a hard copy of the BT extra. Been keeping up with LC ever since, they do good work. I'm with everyone else out here when I wish that the official kaled voice would do less creative for LC, but the reason for that probably comes down to pounds and pence, so it's all good. Anyway he's heard the same critique year after year at the LAX con and shows no signs that he will change.

Glad to have found this community!

well, lets see...'twas about 6 years ago, i was 16, and i had just started working at the library after school. some Shark Dadows dvd collections were donated, and i had the privilege of taking the home to see if all the discs played well enough to be put on the shelf (this made me very happy, as i'm a HUGE fan). i watched thru the 1st disc of the 1st set, and after the cast interview, there was this ad promoting the Shark Dadows Reborn full cast series. i immediately googled it and clicked a link that took me to this wondrous site for a company named LC. of course i didn't get into DW until 3 years after that, but once i got my 1st taste i started absorbing everything i could, everything i could get my hands, eyes and ears on. fiction, nonfiction, classic, new, terrible, awesome, i didn't care as long as it had something to do with DW. and 3 years later, i'm still that way. this forum has been a godsend.

You could do what I did and start with the Paul McGann strand (Storm Warning; Sword of Orion; The Stones of Venice; Minuet in Hell; Invaders from Mars; The Chimes of Midnight; Seasons of Fear; Embrace the Darkness; The Time of the Daleks; Neverland; etc.) and then branch out. Also, don't discount any particular medic just because you're not keen on his TV portrayal. I did this with CB so, initially, I missed out on some real gems.

Take your favourite of the Doctors and just start at the beginning.

Definitely DON"T start with Zaggrayus. Yes, it may well be tempting as it's got four Doctors on the cover, but the story will make very little real sense if you've not heard the 8th Doc stories that lead up to it.

(In fact - it's a bizarre story when you HAVE heard the 8th stories, but it's bizarre-to-the-power-wtf when you haven't.)

Spare Parts, The Holy Terror, The Fearmonger and Storm Warning are all great early ones that are free of most kinds of continuity

Thanks for all the replies

Hinuet in Mell - not very good American accents AT.ALL!!! Yeehaaaa

Speaking as an American, the politics in that story are really stupid. I just re-listed to it a few months ago and the one thing that kept driving me nuts was the secession of Malabolgia from a State to form its own State. Its never really elaborated on as to why they are seceding. They just do. While politics is not my specialty, this still sounds far fetched. At least supply a good reason for a secession. This should have just been two senators running for governor in an already established State, but I guess the writers and LC did not want to offend Americans. So we get stereotyped accents instead. I love LC, but they really dropped the ball with this story.

I'm American too, and I honestly quite enjoyed it. Mostly because I was swept up in ambition of it as well as Paul McGann and Nicholas Courtney's brilliant performances. Plus, I think I'm willing to forgive it a bit due to it's origins as an Audio Visual story.

McGann and Courtney are the only good things about this story. Becky-Lee was one of the few characters who did not annoy me as much and her camaraderie with Charley was fun at times, though their first meeting could have been handled a bit better. Becky-Lee just came across as a bit snobbish (to put it lightly) when questioning the amnesiac Charley. After that scene, though, I did warm to the character.

Question... What is the worst LC you've ever listened to?a few options:
Pier Pressure. It was dreadful: so dull, and I know these are audios and therefore all about the talking, but they just went on and on - which is saying something, for a Sixie story. That said, the story and actors were fine: it was just the execution of the script that let it down.

Nevermore. The first couple of Poe references were very well, but after about the fifth instance they grated. The story wasn't too bad for all that, though.

Excelis. Paul Magrs comes up with great ideas. I just don't consider his execution does them justice. But Anthony Head is brilliant, and I always love the Iris character.

Pretty much any story in the divergent universe with Doc 8, Charlie and C'rizz
From Zagreus to Terror Firma is probably the lowest point in LC’s output for me. Just awful from start to finish.
I also recently listened to Chimes of Midnight. Really don’t think it deserves the reputation it has as one of the greatest Who audios of all time. Just my opinion though.
I loved Zagreus, Scherzo, and Caerdroia. Other than that, the Divergent universe was a huge letdown, the nadir of which being The Next Life.
And I share your sentiment regarding the Chimes of Midnight. I didn't enjoy it much, and didn't get the sense that I was listening to something great (unlike Jubilee, which was magnificent even though I hated listening to it).

Trial Of The Valeyard is ok but it's not all that....Finding it hard to get into the main range release as well. Guess I need a re-listen to Gods And Monsters.

Oh, I was looking forward to Trial of the valeyard :-( is it still worth a listen though? I just re listened to Gods and Monsters so I'm all set for Afterlife when/if it's shared. Cheers my dears xxxxx

Listened to "Court of the Evil Medic". It was a bit convoluted at times, but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. Really deepens the mystery of the Evil Medic as well as Time Lord society on the whole. Some of it was kinda freaky, especially since we don't get confirmation on whether or not what things he said were true. I have a feeling it's gonna be a hard go of it when I listen to "Afterdeath", what with the loss of a friend of mine a couple of months ago, but I'm willing to soldier through it when someone provides it, as well as the CC and Missing Tale...

Question... What is the worst LC you've ever listened to?

My worst, with the most dull in the first three places. Others commit other sins, but being boring with DW really is unforgivable.

Pier Pressure
The Next Life
Dreamtime
Scaredy Cat
The Land of Fear
Nekromanteia
The Nowhere Place
The Reaping
The Gathering
Renaissance of the Daleks

Question... What is the worst LC you've ever listened to?

Thanks so much for the ups, Goldie! Going in release order I'm only as far as The Nouncil of Cicaea in my LC listening (The Leiled Veopard not counting, being a bonus, which was a treat and the actual last one I listened to). And tbh, it is the worst I've heard so far. Mind numbingly boring. Medic+religion=Not a good idea. And I usually love historicals.

The Pirates. Lasted until Bill Oddie started singing ... shudder ...

That's what's so great about the DW universe. There's something for everyone to love or hate.
The Pirates is one of my favourites. I loved the Goodies humour of it all and also quite liked the cheesy musical pieces. In fact I thought the revamped version of the main theme was brilliant and I use it as a ring tone....very nautical!

Bullet you are true cyber buddy. Even though your kinda tight after Xmas, you still look out for all your on line pals with this great UL.

Lazarus thank you kindly for your original posts, however I suggest you avoid that site in the future, while some are able to negotiate it, I believe far more will be stymied and frustrated by it. Originally I thought I lost the Apres Vie DL. I didn't, I just for some reason couldn't find it on my screen. And yes it did DL, but after more then 2 freakin hours, and then it wouldn't even open because it was defective.

I just cannot stop laughing at this. The expression on Brigg's face!

And it proves all the people right who think that Briggs is a bit of a dick ;)

Firstly, thanks Bulletzen for uploading for those who were having troubles. I have used this site for quite a long time as I have a pass for it and when I have tried uploading to other sites I often have time problems.

So, I am sorry for any frustrations caused and you are all welcome :)

Thank you for your efforts, they are greatly appreciated :)

"Ian Levine Finds Episodes in Taiwan

Posted by Doctor Who Archive on December 19, 2013 in 2013

Episode hunter and Doctor Who superfan Ian Levine has been on the trail of missing episodes once more, in Taiwan of all places it emerged this morning.

The search produced results, unfortunately turning up only episodes that are known to exist – Two episodes of The Dominators, Two of The War Games and one episode of The Seeds of Death.

While this may seem a disappointment, heart can be taken that there are still episodes out there to be found and an interesting new avenue has been opened, the films being sent to American troops stationed in the country during the Vietnam War and held by the owner of a radio station.

There is no word on whether these prints are in better condition by those retained by the BBC nor their original origin.

I’m sure everyone will offer Mr Levine their thanks, not only for his efforts but his openness about the issue of missing episodes at a time when many seem a closed book. Thank you Ian and hopefully your fight to bring these episodes home isn’t over quite yet!"

On the other hand, I've had no trouble getting these, thank you very much again LazarusPartridge! No issues with dl limits or random German messages....

I didn't have a problem either...of course it did take 3 hours to download...I just shut off the monitor and went home.
Thanks for your generosity Lazarus!

Thank you to those who have posted the new releases, time to get them now.

Also as I posted on the other place seems Mr Levine is not as much of a prick as I thought he was. Nice efforts and thanks for being honest with us.

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone can help me. So far I've been unable to find hide nor hair of the following (can anyone help or point me in the right direction).

The Foorrgge - Projjectt Longinus
This was an online web comic. Alas I only found out about it after it was taken down and I've never managed to find any copies (Google only brings up dead links). Apparently there were 3 issues made before it stopped.

The second is potentially more obscure.

The Stranggerrr - Comming of Shaadoows
This was a one-off B+B+V audio play only made available on the initial release of the Sum-mond Bye Sha-dows DVD (alas not the recently released version - which I found out after I bought it). I've never managed to track down a version of the old DVD with it on....

and finally...

Medic FASA Modules
Am looking for 3 that again I just can't find electronic copies (my spare room is full and I've been told I can have no more storage space - bah). All three are medic related "Le-gions of D-eath" "Lo-rds of Dest-iny" & "War-riors Co-de"

Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming :)

P.S. Merry X-Mas all you lovely FF Shriners!!

I'm afraid I'm missing the same FASA guides as you. I've only got The Dalek Problem and some manuals. I'd never heard of The Forge. Is it Doctor Who related?

Super Fan!!! Isn't that a big round thing that blows lots of air???

If these episodes he found had turned out to be ones missing from the BBC archive you/we wouldnt be saying that. I can't help but admire his dedication to the quest of recovering lost episodes, I wonder if the recent recovery of several episodes has given him renewed vigour.

Good luck to him I say, as I've said before I have no liking for the man but if anyone can bring us more *lost* episodes it's probably him.

...and please guys, let's not reignite the love or hate Ian debate. :)

Trouble is, Ian can't make a superfluous find without pissing on the leg of someone who has done far more at much greater personal risk. Petulant child.

I have no love for Ian, due to a few run ins with him several years ago...HOWEVER... his dedication to the show, even if it is a little misguided at times, can not be questioned, and I do salute and thank him for what he has done in the past, and if his love of the series leads to possible new finds, that can only be supported and applauded.
If he finds more, that would be amazing, but we do know, we would never be permitted to forget it!! lol
However I do believe that we would NOT have the veil of secrecy that we do now over the rest of the potential/possible finds, as dear old Ian would be shouting it from the roof tops!

We all love the show, we all want more to be found, we want it all and we will never give up in looking and hoping, and those that DO discover and find these jewels, should be applauded and supported NO MATTER how they come across as individuals!

About the missing episodes is there any indication on how many have actually been found yet??

About the missing episodes is there any indication on how many have actually been found yet??

well I could give you an indication, based on what I have heard from those in the know, however I did that many months ago, along with Foe on this site, and it created a whole world of shite and abuse from certain quarters!
So what I will say, is that the 9 so far returned is the tip of the iceberg, however DO NOT expect a quick reveal or answer from the beeb. What we are looking at here is a 3 - 5 year plan of announce and release.
Of course that could change at any point along the path, but that is what stands at the moment.

Common consensus says that MR. mint with the hole will be next, however there are rumblings of something far greater with the pepperpots, however until it happens, nothing is set in stone.
There are reasons for all this faffing about, however they are too in depth and too long winded to go into here!
All I will say is, keep the faith, keep open minded and in time we will all be rewarded!

So, hypothetically Christmas is coming, you found the perfect present for your spouse, which a month away, is going to make your spouse so happy... But every day that rat bastard is shaking the presents under the tree, and asking you for clues about what's coming.

They want to make us a perfect day, some place far off in the future.

Fuck'em.

Would it be possible for us all to leave the Levine bashing for other perhaps more appropriate forums?

I really don't care whether he is deserving of the comments made or not, but the fact is that there are huge Levine-shaped footprints right across the web, and then a million other footprints of those who have something to say about him. And otherwise pleasant places are soured everywhere these traces are found.

Please, please, let us not descend to this here. This is a friendly, family-like place where we try to get along and share and share alike. Otherwise we will become just another clone of other forums rather than the special and fun place we have.
