It seems Mr. Levine has something to say on the subject of Philip Morris and his recovery of lost episodes, this was posted on his twitter page a few days ago ...

"This is an open challenge to @archives1963 to face me in a proper public debate about the right way & the wrong way to return missing DW eps"

Now I don't want to reopen the we love to hate Ian debate, but I'd love to know what he has too say to Phil Morris, and is there a wrong way to return lost episodes?

You're not supposed to ransom them to the Beeb for hundreds of thousands of Euros?

The man has to make a living :), but seriously though, Auntie obviously agreed to pay his "finders" fee, so they figure that they can make the amount back and still profit from the deal. Phil gets his money, the beeb make a profit and we get lost episodes, everyones a winner.

Maybe Levine's going to finally give back the missing episodes he's been hording? :P

In all honestly, I'm morbidly curious about this debate. Assuming it happens.

I think Levine's argument comes from the fact that many feel Morris has a lot more and is holding out, presumably for an amount of money BBC won't/can't pay. I may be wrong by that, but it may be his line of thinking considering all the rumors.

The Valeyard
04-09-2014, 12:50 AM
I keep up with Ian on his FB page. From what I understand, Morris is holding on to a ton of missing Doctor Who episodes and won't give them back until he's done searching for more. He'd rather give them all to the BEEB in one big chunk instead of handing over the pieces he has now (which supposedly includes the entirety of Marco Polo).

At least, that's what Ian Levine believes.

Now this rumor jives with what Bleeding Cool posted almost a year ago before the return of Enemy of the World and Web of Fear were gleams in our eyes. That a mysterious someone was hoarding missing episodes for a) money, b) until the search was complete or c) Moffat was removed from Doctor Who. Bleeding Cool also posted about several tons of BBC material being returned to England with the help of Mr. Morris. This was all before anyone knew who he was. So Morris (again, supposedly) has a stockpile of BBC material in his hands but only the 2 Troughton stories have been returned thus far.

The decryption key is the last 10 (less, more, no idea.) digits in the link.

Mega thinks it's being clever, but it isn't.

What happened is that you probably missed the last alphanumeric in the link when you copied it.

We all do it.

You can try to be clever and fuck around (which is inadvisable because it will take ten times longer than starting again, and probably still not work.), or just start again and not cut off the last couple numbers.

Thank you for the reply. I've tried copied the whole link & I still get the request for the decryption key, so I used the last 10 characters of the link as the key but still no joy. :-(

Speaking of no joy my copy of Blokes 6+1 fighting place ends abruptly at 49mins 47 seconds. I'd be grateful if any one would re-up. Just not on Mega.;-)

Hi mckyrn,

Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Nobber (#23013) and several others who have downloaded have not reported any problems (so far).

I tested each file before I uploaded with no issues. I also downloaded one file to check and test again and had no problems.
I zip my files using version 9.20 of 7-zip, which you can find at: 7-zip.org

It might be that your version of zip software may not be compatible leading to possible corruption issues.

I think the mistake here is that we do not have "a corner" that should be fought for. There may or may not be more missing episodes which we may or may not have an announcement about. We don''t have a right to demand this information, we certainly don't have the right to fight for this information. If an announcement is made, great. If not, we are no worse off. The antagonism seen today is an illustration of why it's not a good idea to force the issue.

Of course, the odd thing is that TECHNICALLY it COULD be possible to send a craft a-head of the expanding RF waves to capture them and then send them back ... once we've worked out the physics and practically, of course ....

Just to think ... The human race breaking the light-speed barrier could be eventually down to someone so desperate to track down the 'as transmitted' version of "The Feast Of Stephen".

A request and an upper. Has anyone got scans or a PDF for the 1986 book The Early Years by Mr Bentham? There were some scans from the first half of the book floating around a few years ago but it is the complete thing I'm after.

In return, here is a pdf of a gorgeous book published I think in 1988 or round abouts, about special effects by one Matt Irvine.

Doctor Who News: Statement from Philip Morris (http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2014/04/statement-from-philip-morris.html)

Not a terribly surprising statement, is it? He's not stupid enough to be drawn into a a Farage-Clegg style debate on whether he's operating desirable business practices with a (so-called) superfan. The key concept mentioned is commercial confidentiality. Morris may well have a stockpile of footage (DW or otherwise), and may have come to some business agreement for its return. It's important that this isn't ruined for the rest of us by foot-stamping immaturity.

My pleasure. One of the reasons I purchased it is because I had an extra $16 to burn on something, and figured I'd go for that monthly because I noticed on the Doctor Who Reference Guide (great site, btw!) that the episode lengths of parts 3 and 4 were at odds with the version I had downloaded elsewhere. I was like "I'm missing 20 whole minutes of this brilliant story!" so I went and got it off of LC's website. I spent another $3 on the digital version of monthly #31, because the one I had was glitched in the intro to part 3 of it where it cut off in the middle of the theme tune and garbled slightly til it reached Paul McGann's voice that made the cliffhanger for part 2, and then continued on as if nothing was wrong.

EDIT: I've decided to keep the upload up for another couple days, so that anyone who wants it can still get it. I'm glad I could help out my fellow Whovians. Apologies to those who hate that term, I personally like it. Anyway, I'll try to provide a few more things if anyone's interested. Just bear in mind, I may not share that frequently, as I don't want to get into the doghouse with LC...

Medic 6 Collecting Junk

RWQ

dwst4,

I've been out of the loop for well over a month (computer problems, family problems, job problems...) and am only now FINALLY starting to climb out from the wreckage.
ANY chance you could re-up this?

(I'll actually be going through the forum and humbly asking anyone who posted 24-hour ups to perhaps re-up. I'm going through all the pages to try to catch up, but I've missed out on everything from page 907 to now. Life really had me on the ropes for a while there. It's not over by any means, but at least I'm back in the game.)

The only thing that will help cure my ails is to have frequent visits from the Medic.
;-)
Thanks for everyone's understanding!

I won't be making all the requests in one fell swoop, but could you possibly re-up THIS one which i missed?
It does seem to have a great review and I'd love to get a chance to enjoy it too.

Thanks in advance for your kind understanding.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks a lot for the cc episode about the big conflict. I got that from the 3rd line in RWQ.

But what are the first two lines for? If I click the first line by itself all I get is a request for the encryption code, whatever that is.

Click the second line it only reads it's been taken down.

Please clarify.

I had the same thing despite copying correctly. However clicking the x on the decryption key thing did allow me to download it.

So my advice is try that so long as you don't have the -- bit from the end of the URL in the address.

I am compiling this months releases on mega if anybody has requests to re-up. Listened to Sa***es audio with narration only yesterday so glad the new friends release kind of follows on from that, tho haven't listened to it yet. Have a wedding to goto (not my own) so won't get the chance to catch up til sun/mon.

Sadly, with my wifi having crapped out (no cash to buy a new router at the moment) I am forced to use my old system which can not be upgraded to the point of accessing MEGA, which requires a newer browser than what I have... :-( so I've been unable to access ANY of your recent offerings.

I don't wish to ask too much, but if ANYONE can offer a different venue for me to get them (I'm good with ANY other upload service) then I'd appreciate it.
PM me or just a RWQ post would be fab.

Thanks!

They are hidden at HTML 'comments' - any web designer can add hidden comments to the source code of a webpage, either as a reminder to themselves, or as a note for other developers working on the site.

This is done by using <!-- to mark the start of the comment, and --> to mark the end. Your browser recognises anything between these as a comment, and ignores it. Note that I had to use some html-fu to get those tags to show in this post.

Some clever person on these forums figured out a long time ago that it was possible to use these comment tags to hide URLs, but that the 'Reply with Quote' option still quoted the invisible comments as well as the rest of the post, so when you 'replied', you could then copy/paste the URL into your browser's address bar.

This caused forum posts to start including 'RWQ' in them, which simply means "use the 'Reply With Quote' button to see the URL."

Happy Easter weekend!

I know it's not Medic related, but I just thought I would post this anway. They are the links for the National Public Radio Playhouse production of the original Stellar Battles trilogy. This is a pretty good production and really expands on the characters and stories of the original films. Anthony Daniels lends his voice to all three stories as everyones favorite protocal droid and Mark Hamill returns for the first two radio productions (Stellar Battles and Striking Back). Brock Peters (Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird, Admiral Cartwright from Star Trek IV and VI, and Joesph Sisko from Star Trek DS9) voices D.V. Though not as good as James Earl Jones, you can still tell Peters enjoys the role.

I've listed to this version several times and enjoy it immensely, so I thought I'd post it for the long weekend (long for me, anyway).

I'll leave the links up for the weekend. Enjoy!

If anyone is interested in obtaining "Doctor Who: Time Trips" (a new series of short books set in the world of Doctor Who. Similar to the Quick Reads from a few years ago they can be about any Doctor - not just the current one.)

I. The Death Pit

Something odd is going on at the Fetch Brothers Golf Spa Hotel. Receptionist Bryony Mailer has noticed a definite tendency towards disappearance amongst the guests. She's tried talking to the manager, she's even tried talking to the owner who lives in one of the best cottages in the grounds, but to no avail. And then a tall, loping remarkably energetic guest (wearing a fetching scarf and floppy hat) appears. The Fourth Doctor thinks he's in Chicago. He knows he's in 1978. And he also knows that if he doesn't do something very clever very soon, matters will get very, very out of hand.

II. Into the Nowhere

The Eleventh Doctor and Clara land on an unknown alien planet. To the Doctor's delight and Clara's astonishment, it really is unknown. It's a planet the Doctor has never seen. It's not on any maps, it's not referenced on any star charts or in the TARDIS data banks. It doesn't even have a name. What could be so terrible that its existence has been erased?

III. Keeping Up With the Jones

Deep in the gap between the stars, the TARDIS is damaged by a temporal mine. It's not life-threatening, but the Tenth Doctor will need a while to repair the damage. But he's not alone. The strangely familiar-looking Christina thinks the Doctor has arrived in her bed and breakfast, somewhere in Wales. In fact, the TARDIS seems to have enveloped Christina's entire town - and something else is trapped inside with it. A violent, unnatural storm threatens them all and - unless it's stopped - the entire universe.

IV. Salt of the Earth

The Third Doctor and Jo Grant arrive for a well-deserved holiday of sun and 'blokarting' on a salt lake in Australia in 2028. Weird sculptures adorn the landscape - statues carved from the salt. People have been leaving them in the salt lakes for years - but these look different. Grotesque, distorted figures twisted in pain. They don't last long in the rain and the wind, but they're just made of salt... Aren't they?

V. A Handful of Stardust

The TARDIS is diverted to England in 1572, and the Sixth Doctor and Peri meet John Dee - 'mathematician, astrologer, alchemist, magician, and the greatest mind of our time'. ('Only of your time?', the Doctor asks, unimpressed.) But what brought them here? When the Doctor discovers that Dee and his assistant have come across a 'great disturbance in the cosmos, in the constellation of Cassiopeia,' he realizes that they are all in terrible danger.

Dunno, but it doesn't "feel" DW-y ... if you see what I mean. But something 'T'-y in the DW world could, of course, be Burningwood. Which wouldn't be too bad, I suppose.

The return of the original Tmrw Folk would be rather nice.

It's almost definitely Terrahawks.

That's kind of awesome! I've just bought the complete series on DVD along with The Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysses 31.

Isn't Windsor Davies dead? I always wanted one of those "_ _ _in my pocket" sound chip keyrings with his sayings on it especially his "SHUUUUUT UUUUUP!" line.

Don't judge me, I've already got MR T and Carry On keyrings just for the "Shut up fool" and Sid James dirty old man laugh respectively. :-)

For those who have never heard of Terrahawks (like myself a few minutes ago), here's the first ever TV episode to get acquainted. (25 minutes)

Terrahawks Season 1 Episode 1 (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1bmloj_terrahawks-1x01-expect-the-unexpected-part-1_shortfilms)

I must admit I enjoyed watching that more as an adult. I can remember I never used to like this as a child.

Hi guys,
The LC website states that the CC specials set 'Also includes previously unreleased bonus material'.
I know that the 3 friends is suppsed to be a different edit to that which appeared as extras on the monthly releases, but does anyone have any further info on the bonus material?
I already have the mag releases and the regular monthly stuff but wanted to know if the remix & bonus stuff is worth forking out the $20 for.

Anderson Entertainment only have the rights to his later programmes as Carlton/ITC have the classic Anderson series tied up. So its a small field that is available to use. With the relaunch [pardon the pun!] of "Thunderbirds" next year, at least we have some new classic Anderson, but, to be honest, the reports I've heard aren't all that encouraging, as the reboot appears to be more along the lines of the terrible movie that was made a few years ago now!

Enjoy!

Lets see who knows about Pre-LC history. Recently the 4th Medic encountered Cuthbert and Conglomerate. Who here can name the AV audios featuring both, excluding the obviously named first series episode "Conglomerate".

Nobody's responded so I guess I'll just give you all the answers. Cuthbert (played by Barry Killerby) first appeared in "The Destructor Contract" and would go on to make two subsequent appearances in "Enclave Irrelative" and "Subterfuge". Conglomerate minus Cuthbert would feature in "Requiem" Thus endeth this session of pre-LC history 101.

I can't remember this series so I only know the basic premise of it, it sounds ok but again if LC are going to continue to expand their range I would prefer something more mainstream.

U.f.o., Space 1999, Doomwatch, Quatermass or even Tales of the Unexpected

Any of the above would IMHO make for a better choice, and would be of interest to a wider audiance.

Ummm not a good idea to actually be that clear with requests.... search engines and the like home in on that!
something along the lines of "The Detective tales by voice of the pepperpots" or "221B snoop from LC" or any other coded way.

The first two series are really good, series 3 is good but a little long and series 4 is ok. But that's only my opinion :)

Does anyone know where I can download or buy the original soundtracks of missing episodes ie bbc audiobooks? They are selling for silly money on ebay (40 quid and over)? Thanks

Here's something I just wanted to share. It's my reimagined cover for the original Audio Visuals version of Sword of Orionhttp://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/349/e/7/audio_visuals_the_sword_of_orion_cover__redesign__ by_jimg1972-d5o561w.jpg

IMHO .... 1+2 are superb.

3 ... Long winded and meanders a bit. Not terrible, just could have been a CD shorter.

4 ... So so. There's a decent enough story, but not one that really fits with 1-3 and probably best listened to after a bit of a break from 1-3.

If you start something, finish it.

For all we know, you could be the chosen one.

The miracle child who likes Dalek Empire 4 better than Dalek Empire 1.

Now shhhh, I'm watching the new 24.

Could I ask what people's favourite Classic Who serials are?
I should really start on them in proper because otherwise I might never get to them (on the account that I can't seem to stop listening to LC/reading le books).

I'm still not all the way through watching the classics (having read them all), but so far my favourite is probably Remembrance of the Daleks.

That one was a massive cheat.

A special weapons Dalek might as well be a super model slathered in nothing but raspberry frosting.

Chest augmentation with artificial implants promotes an unhealthy body image.

"What does that model have that I don't, besides implants?"

I like that model but always wondered how it managed to see!

Ok, so what I infer from the various answers to my inquiry is that series 1 and 2 are well worth a listen, 3 is ok but a bit ponderous, and 4 is either take it or leave it. Thanks for input. I'll take into consideration.
