But, please god, I hope that The Moff doesn't do an RTD and do the 'farewell tour' before he regenerates. I know there's areas of fandom that *love* that bit, but it was like nails down a blackboard for me.

I'd like him to go back just to see Dodo. "I had to come back and see just how awful you were. I didn't believe it, but there you are. Look at you. What good are you? Why did I let you stay? What was I thinking? LOOK AT YOU!"

I've just been reading back a few pages and I have a question... whats with all the Zoe Ball hate? I like her :D, she kinda does it for me ;)

I seem to remember a Pepsi promotion that once hung with pride in the Zero Room, in which Ms. Ball's sported a cleverly applied coat of paint.

I always wondered who ran off with that picture...

I don't think Dodo did much of anything while she was around and then she got brainwashed and never seen again in the most underwhelming manner. The most memorable things about her were in the novels. The part where she essentially picked up an STD in particular.

I had completely ignored 'Dodo', in the same way I had not even considered 'Sara Kingdom' a companion, so when I read '
looshkin's comment, I had to go to Dodo Chaplet - Tardis Data Core, the Doctor Who Wiki (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Dodo_Chaplet), to look it up...

I had known that she was in only 4 1/2 stories, but it would appear that she has been used as a 'default' character in many novels. As for Dodo in the episodes....think Adric in a dress, for the level of; 'wont you pleeeeeeeeease! shut up!'

A modern-day Tellurian, traveled with One and Steven.

From the point of tv only, she showed up out of nowhere for The Ark, stuck around for The Celestial Toymaker, The Gunfighters, and The Savages, and disappeared with as much explanation at the end of The War Machines.

Dunno if she was more interesting in the books, but certainly she saw more action. We get her actual recruitment in Salvation, then she helps hold off the golden horde in Bunker Soldiers. Finally, some seriously unpleasant events happen to her in The Man In The Velvet Mask (War Machines was somewhat in the recovery period after that, which may be a good reason for her bowing out at that point).

And then she's murdered while pregnant as part of a conspiracy in "Who Killed Kennedy" - basically, prose Dodo had it tough... :(

People's opinion of Dodo probably isn't helped by the fact that Jackie Lane's one of the few actors from the early days who never speaks about her time in the show...

Nobody is disputing your right to ask for whatever you want. All I was trying to say is that asking for brand new releases is pointless when 99% of the time some kind soul uploads them here without us having to ask.

As for the files you have been asking for; I'm assuming they're pretty new and I only meant that anybody who has got them maybe hasn't had time to rip and upload them yet; and asking over and over probably won't get you them any quicker. No offense intended - sometimes I'm just a little bit straight to the point.

Quite hard if you've not visited for a while and when you are faced with six or seven pages of posts to go through. Also, requests tend to "disappear" amidst the chat - which moves quickly and pushes requests off the page or back a couple of pages or whatever.

Quite often irrelevances are posted in spoiler tags, too.

I suppose it can be a pita if you haven't been around for a while, but the only solution to that would be for everyone to stop the banter and I can't really see that happening.

Yes, there are a lot of irrelevances in the spoiler tags but most uploads are RWQd - there's only a couple of people still use spoiler tags to hide posts. I agree there isn't much DW AUDIO DRAMA left, but think of what we'd have missed out on - all the random stuff Redskutter, Nobber and a few others have uploaded here over the last couple of months.

Why not bookmark the last page you were on then scan forward for the RWQs. Just tested it and, as a rough estimate, scanning one page takes a maximum of 20 seconds. 7 pages therefore is just over two minutes. Two minutes doesn't seem too bad, tbh, and (in my opinion) is not too onerous a price to pay for some cool stuff.

or log in and hit "view first unread", instead of bookmarking....scanning for links, the rwq's (I wont capitalize it here) and spoilers is hardly difficult and takes no time at all.

the generosity of many here is (i believe) stimulated by the banter and madness, those who dont have much to give of DW give us m-puppets and other lunacy, those who do give because the rest of us show gratitude and make jokes. In general people are more likely to give to those they like and when they know it will be appreciated.

it is rare for a request to go unfulfilled, either the very new or very rare may be beyond the denizens of this thread, but politeness and patience usually reap rewards.

a "links only" thread, or library wouldn't really work. after takedown notices and the whole....no I won't mention his name...thing, many are only leaving files up for a couple of days (or less) so it would rapidly be full of dead links.

Long live the madness, long live the chaos, long life rice pudding!!

Wow a lot has happened since I was on last....Alright so lets see...

1. I actually think PC will make a good medic, given he is given decent scripts. I do believe it's about time we had an older person in the role again.

2.It looks like the 'Charlie' spinoff is finally getting some news.

3. Hey! I like the banter, many a day I used to come on here just to cheer up, please don't make it go away. You'd make the Tard.IS sad.

and 4. The reason I haven't been able to post, reply, or up anything is because I recently started a new job and moved, so we didn't have internet for awhile, then we did and my wife monopolized my time. But the job is 9 and half hours a day, 5 days a week, at 10 dollars an hour + shift diff. so I can't really complain.

I mean - just what the heck can they do with the character? She's not the brightest candle on the mantelpiece, no 'superpower', and she's not got the chutzpah that keeps the Benny series going.

I've been giving her period a re-listen recently (she's just joined 6) and, sorry, but she generally is (and I don't mean this as a pejorative) very much a Damsel In Distress. She's generally very RE-active to situations, for a Benny (or even a G-Less!) she'd have to have a total about-face and become PRO-active.

The odd thing is is that whilst I wasn't too keen on how she left as it all felt a bit of a hodge-podge as 'memory wipes' are a crappy way out. (And I *hate* the Mila character idea. Utterly ridiculous.) but I do find it oddly satisfying that she DID end up heading off into the void and never meeting The Doctor again.

But I just don't want to hear it.

But plenty of people do want to hear it. The reaction on their Facebook was very positive but their forum and Facebook are generally more positive than we are here anyway.

Not sure why she can't have an Iris/Benny style series just because she isn't proactive. Her growth and changing could be a great theme, not relying on this man she put all her hopes and dreams on. What happened next, what happens after he leaves/circumstances change. I would love to hear that.

Just a personal thing obviously, and to be fair you don't have to listen to them. Don't think we will agree on it, I loved the Mila storyline and her time with 6. Not as much as 8, that was far too special, but I did enjoy it a lot.

I loved the Mila storyline and her time with 6. Not as much as 8, that was far too special, but I did enjoy it a lot.

India as Mila did a cracking job, but I just couldn't accept the basic premise of her. Having Charley essentially possessed wasn't a bad idea and added some more confusion for 6 in Paper Cuts, but the basic bit of her having been there so long with being noticed 'somehow' was just a stretch too far for me. It felt too contrived. It would have made more sense to have had her, Mila, be an alien presence they picked up during 'Raincould Man'. And, as I said, I'm not a fan of 'memory wipe' resets.

Charley and Six work surprisingly well together (especially considering her first three weren't even written for her) and there's a good few times I think they've actually got better chemistry than 8+C.

But, man, the end of BlueFP just annoys me as a) the story was damn good until about the last quarter hour, and b) I just wish they'd found a better way out of the 6/8 paradox without the memory wipe.

Oh well, I suppose (to paraphrase Douglas Adams) "We'll hear what we hear" - by now I should have enough faith in LC to be able to pull something off! :)

Dodo was in Face of the Enemy? I thought that was a 3rd story.

Three was in space, so the Brigadier pressgangs convict labour, with Ian and Barbara as the Master's minders, to save the world.

So it's not really even a third Doctor Book.

Ha! And this from the company that spins-off a character before she's even been heard in the main-range ...

:)

Hopefully they'll get him back again one day. Even just as a single bit in a 6th version of "Comp Of Fiends"

EDIT TO ADD - Or get him in a Subscriber Special. They'd not have to worry about 'regular' sales figures then.

englandero, I like to think this thread is mainly for people like you, so it's good to hear from you! I'll buy stuff from LC when I can, usually when there's a sale on (I just went crazy and got CD copies of ALL the first 50 - using subscriptions, I got the whole lot for just over $250 AU, including 3 'free gift' CDs and "The Maul-Tease Penn-Guinn" as a free subscriber bonus - SCORE!!), but even with a steady salary I can't justify the price of a new subsciption - so I can only imagine how out of the question it is for you...

I totally take all those points, but I am the total opposite. I loved the last part and the solution. It just seemed to fit the pattern. 8 is always losing his memory and it seemed fitting to pass that to 6 through Charley.

Somebody on the LC forum had some great ideas for the Charley spin off. Really excellent ones, but of course they will go with something totally different.

Or...is a surprise regeneration in the 50th on the cards??? Are we being lied to (in a good way) again [Souffls anyone].

For once, just ONCE, I would like to see the regen not take place at the very end of a story, but maybe 10 minutes from the end, with the old doctor, in effect, dying, defeated by the aliens and the new doctor resolving the situation and beating them. Then taking a long nap - which it would be, as a new series isn't likely til what, september next year?

I don't think the Doctor has ever been defeated by the bad guys. He defeats them and dies due to his sacrifice. That is sort of the point; his noble sacrifice for the Greater Good. Dying before a situation is resolved would make the previous Doctors efforts seem less and artificially inflate the "power" of the new Doctor.

Plus, the whole confusion after regeneration thing that makes him mostly useless at best and deranged at worst. Not sure he would be up for beating the baddie in the state he typically finds himself in.

I don't even care, I just think that they are missing out on some great stories that would sell well and arn't all dark-grim by not using him. I mean they are bringing Adric back rather than using a companion that could occupy (at least) a few seasons of CB stories.

NB could even be involved; Frobisher and the Pepperpots, The Whifferdill and the Silverman, The Case of the Martian and the Penguin.

First medic died because of his battle with the cybermen, so we are sort of led to believe
second medic had to change his face due to orders from the timelords
forth medic fell off the bridge, sort of brought on by the master
sixth medic, most ridiculous regen ever as he basically fell over brought about by rani firing on him
and seventh medic shot and then hospital cock up

but i do agree lets have the medic change part way through the program, i think this will work a treat

BUT, in each of those instances, with the exception #6 and #7, the badguy was defeated prior to regeneration. In the case of 2to3, he had still defeated the bad guy, he once again made the Ultimate Sacrifice by sacrificing his freedom/life - while they are arrogant jerks, the TL's are not bad guys (typically).

Of course, the Cybermen and Dalek persist eternally, so I guess you COULD be picky and say the Doctor has never really beaten them.

It's an great idea to have a mid-story regeneration & it makes a lot of sense plot-wise but it's only right to give every Doctor the big final scene he deserves. Not every Doctor has had one (& some have taken it too far) but there's no excuse anymore for not letting them go out in style!

So you give them their big final scene in the final ep of the series and let the new doc take over for the Christmas special before they get their own series proper.

They've said repeatedly that despite being excellent and widely acclaimed that the Frobisher stories were BY FAR the worst selling main range stories they sold.

Why on Earth would you expect them to repeat a failed experiment?

That said, I agree that both of his stories were excellent. But I don't expect a large company to cater just to MY desires.

Because they could?

And they're NOT a large company so could quite easily do a story purely because they want to and they have the flexibility. (Look at Veennah, for instance, or even G-Less. Or even the first J&L boxset, for that matter.).

Yeah, I am going to go out on a limb and say that if they can do a Pollard series, Survivors and Avengers - they can take a risk on a Medic story.

They have to be worried about Brand degradation.

If they epic fail, it reflects poorly on the entire franchise.

If LC makes a little profit or a lot of profit, the Beeb still gets the same money, right?

LC pays for the right to use these characters, you can't tell me that they have to then shave money off their back end because the rights holders also collect a percentage on LC's profits?

What the beeb gets out of this after the licence is paid for, is free advertising for products that do generate them revenue.

You know who ne... okay I'm pissed.

I was about to say how Duggen could have could have shown up from time to time to thump someone, and that his audio series would be very down to Earth about pork pies and football results.

Go, go Duggen!

Not only is the actor still alive, Tom Chadbon, but they wasted him as a bit player in the trial of a Timelord.

I mean seriously, the Colin Baker years, every other bloody episode has the producers IMAGINING and PRETENDING that their latest and greatest new adventure was a spinoff/continuation from some third Doctor story that was never filmed, proving that the Doctor has been floating around for 900 hundred years making an impact on the local community.

But they were pulling characters out of time for the Doctor's defence and they didn't think about ringing Tom's agent and asking if he wants another weeks work... or Fraizer Hines for that matter.

"Sigh"

IIRC they did contact Tom Chadburn but he declined - (this based on a fuzzy memory of an early podcast).

And CB's worked from Hines in that AWFUL trilogy a few years ago (What the heck were they called? The last was Leg-Endd of The Sighbermen. That one) - They worked well together, but you'ld be stretching continuity/credibility pretty thin to justify doing it again.

Like many - I assumed when it first came out that it would be dreadful - but now I know better and would happily get the next.

I think that if anything HT just proves the point. It's brilliant. It's written by one of BF's biggest success stories. Everyone gives it great reviews. Yet, still, few people bought it, because it had Frobisher. Eventually, over many years, it started to catch up in sales (with the help of major price markdowns.) But that took years.

So, why would anyone expect that a new Frobisher story, possibly without any of those benefits, would do better?

Because they could?

And they're NOT a large company so could quite easily do a story purely because they want to and they have the flexibility. (Look at Veennah, for instance, or even G-Less. Or even the first J&L boxset, for that matter.).

The spinoffs that Nobber mentions are not good examples precisely because they're spinoffs. Without any of the Medic actors, they're much cheaper to produce. That means they don't have to sell as many to make a profit. And to be honest, I don't get the impression that either the V or GL spinoffs were tremendous successes for them anyways. J&L is another story, but they're brilliant-- and they're also legendary, beloved characters from a classic original series story.

The best I would think you could hope for is a Frobisher CC (whenever they bring back the line), since it would be cheaper to produce without CB. But without CB in it, I doubt it would sell all that much. There's the Catch 22.

---------- Post added at 08:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:14 AM ----------

Let's face it - nowadays, if they could miracle Shearman back in to write at least the first one, it'd sell...

If they could get Shearman back for ANYTHING, it would sell.

Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have the time, even if he has the desire. And BF can't pay him enough to get him to make the time.

Remember back when they were talking about a Shearman box set set in the time of the Borgias?

See where you're coming from, but another Sheerman penned Penguin story (lets say as the September 'filler' release) would certainly give them some feedback.

And ... again ... Veennaah!

If they can still risk the 'epic fail' of spinning off a character than no-one had ever heard before, then they should still be able to risk another Frobisher story.[COLOR="Silver"]

But Shearman doesn't have the time for BF right now, so that's not happening. And without him , it won't sell. They ALREADY tried the experiment. It failed.

V is a special situation because the actress has somehow become a legend in fandom for some reason I've never understood. Mainly from being the "hot chick" on DS9, even if her character started out effectively as a 2-dimensional cocktail waitress/hooker. But because fanboys drooled over her, they gave her more to do. Eventually she became the ultimate fanboy fantasy by hooking up with and marrying the show's biggest nerd underdog, forever securing her a place in horny nerdboy fantasies -- whether they be G or X rated. I still remember all the conventions she appeared at, and marveling at how she turned a bit part into serious cash selling pictures and autographs. (And as a gay guy, I remember at the beginning wondering who "Leeta, the Dabo Girl" was, anyways, and why she was getting so much attention, since she'd been so unimportant on the show at first.)

So, it wasn't really a big gamble on BF's part. Even though the actress is on audio and only gets to show off her looks (and her mighty cleavage) on the product's cover, there's still enough of a built-in audience there to guarantee them at least a certain audience. Whether they can keep that audience is another story.

And on another note, it's easier to risk failure on a product that you're not paying huge licensing fees on. With less overhead comes less risk.

I doubt the Doc actors get paid that much more than any other. Didn't one of them (CB?) basically say if it was just based on the money they'd not bother?

Putting aside the 'sales' part for a moment; arguably J&L were the highest RISK as they could, potentially, really ruined the characters. Thankfully they managed to keep that original charm and make it even better.

The best I would think you could hope for is a Frobisher CC (whenever they bring back the line), since it would be cheaper to produce without CB. But without CB in it, I doubt it would sell all that much. There's the Catch 22.

If they could get Shearman back for ANYTHING, it would sell.

Make your mind up. :)

---------- Post added at 01:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:36 PM ----------

But Shearman doesn't have the time for BF right now, so that's not happening. And without him , it won't sell. They ALREADY tried the experiment. It failed..

Not according to Amazon UK's ranking data;

Holy Terror - 61,238

Compare to 'Shadow Of The Scourge' (361,243 ) and 'The Mutant Phase" (93,480) which were released either side of it, I'd say that's hardly a failure.

BTW: Chimes = 55,462, Jubilee = 401,917, Scherzo = 221,450

Actually - surprised that Jubilee is so low, I would honestly have expected that and Scherzo to be the other way round with J having the pepperpots.

That is what he said, I also recall various LC people stating that they basically pay nothing to the consistent actors.

Jubilee was pretty great, mostly due to the Pepperpot Ultimate Adventure spoof at the start, which still makes me laugh.

Oh, they're gone here.

The protocol at the moment is to use sendspace and then delete the link after a couple days to avoid lawyers and sendspace getting tetchy.

...

Mutant Phase is a Dalek Empire crossover, even if Dalek empire sold for shit, that would have given it a sizeable boost... And I can remember once, not that I keep track of these things, I'm not very observant, but I've seen Mutant Phase on sale... It's numbers could have been artificially boosted from a couple weekends where LC was selling the episode in question for a dollar.

Do direct sales from large conclusion's website, and subscriptions, go through Amazon to create Amazons sales figures, or are their numbers naff?

I doubt that BF's direct sales are taken into account on Amazons sales rankings, but they're as a good an indicator as any when considering if X sold better than Y.

(Arguably an even better indicator, thinking about it, as BF direct sales are 'biased' as they are more-or-less figures of sales to those that would buy anything/everything.)

(not that I begrudge them a penny of it, we get amazing stories with characters we love)

Actually, quite the opposite. Amazon's sales are largely irrelevant to BF. Have you EVER seen them even mention that their stories are available on Amazon or iTunes or Play or any other source? They only put them for sale there for basically free advertising. You buy the story there -- with the company taking a huge chunk of the profit -- and the CD and booklet are full of ads for "subscribers get more at BF.com", driving you to buy at their website. Amazon is a small portion of their sales. So their rankings there are nearly irrelevant. It's like saying that one particular story was the highest ranking story in one particular store. It MIGHT mean something. Or it might just mean that the story happened to have fans there. And with very low amazon ranking (way down in the 1000's), big rank jumps often mean very little. A jump of 5000 may mean 5 sales!

BF have said over and over again that the Frobisher stories were among their worst selling ones. Don't you think that THEY would know? What incentive do they have to lie about it?

Yes, they have caught up in sales over the THIRTEEN years they've been out. But that's only because they're SO widely regarded. And they're regarded that way because of Shearman's writing. They're widely regarded DESPITE Frobisher's appearance, not BECAUSE of it. If people wanted a Frobisher story, they'd have pre-ordered it before everyone was talking about how well-written it was. But that simply didn't happen.

And just to be clear, there are a large number of people who Subscribe to BF's ranges, getting every release in a category. But there is an even larger number who can't afford to or choose not to, and only order the stories they want. That's why they always run all sorts of special sales, to get people to pick up the ones they haven't bought yet. The individual sales are the sales that they consider most when making such decisions. And on a certain level, if a trilogy doesn't peak people's interest, some of them will wait a few months before resubscribing.

As for "mak[ing] my mind up", I was consistent. I said that I doubted that a FROBISHER story would sell very much, but that a SHEARMAN story would sell very well. While it would be great to get a Shearman Frobisher story, it's not happening, though I'm sure that BF (and the rest of us!) would LOVE it to. He doesn't have the time, and his agent urges him not to spend the time on such a low-paying venture. And without Shearman, few people are interested in a Frobisher story. But with the internet, those few people can squawk loudly and seem like more than they are.

There is always the chance that because so many people have eventually purchased the stories that they would pre-order the next one. No one watched Arrested Development when it was on the air but the interest is high enough to try a fourth season. (Which I loved.)

Well, Amazon are quite a large singe store, so as indicator of individual story sales it is significant.

That "simply didn't happen" as they didn't really have that pre-order thing back when this was released.

Hello, everyone! Just got home from a week-long trip to visit a friend of mine who lives out of town. I loaded my mp3 player to the brim with several LC stories from the Medic's Friends range to listen to while I was there, since I'm just now getting into them. I decided to listen to the rather lengthy one involving a paradox with the 5th and 6th Medic's rather *ahem* curvaceous companion and some fish people this afternoon while I was on the train home. I thought it was some of the most timey-wimiest nonsense ever! I meant that in a good way, just to clarify. Someone get Nev Fountain to write for the show proper! I want to see what he can do there!

I've been looking forward to that one, seeing as how it's the highest-rated of that range on the Time Scales site. But I've gotten pretty bogged down in (the surprisingly good) season 16, so I'm still a long way from meeting the characters. And welcome back, by the way.

They have no incentive to lie about anything. But I cannot for the life of me recall anyone asking for an Adric series either. That doesn't mean there weren't people doing it. However, people have also BEGGED for the Eight to do the Time War and LC has flatly stated they could do it but they don't want to. So it isn't really so much about what the customer wants - it's about what LC wants.

--- Also, not to sell HTerror short, it did win best audio of the year for the year it was published according to LC ---

Yeah, the rip off one (well, it is a special occasion!).

And with that, I'm off to bed. Good-night.

Really, really hoping to find the last batch of "Burning Tree" audios, out of work right now, or else I'd just be buying them (like I have with the rest). Does anyone have them, or could point me in a direction? Please? :)

I've missed something....

Is there a HOT chick with cleavage in the Zero room or not.

If so has anyone got directions.
