SO, all this talk then of LC's audio scripts.. Hmm. I wouldn't mind seeing the one for Plarc Matt's "$p@re Par+s". Or the ones for the Velvet Coated Medic's ones (esp. the one with a certain archaeologist and Fitz). Are they good, or is just basically everything we've heard, but in script-form?

Not in my experience.
Genuine Region 1 DVDs do not play on my genuine Region 2 player, despite the seller's claims. Good job he was 4000 miles out of my reach.... Bootleg DVDs are usually region free and play on anything, but are generally painful to try and watch IMO.

Agreed with that. In fact, deciding to listen to that story is what partially inspired me to finally check out the CCs after putting them off for so long. So many great stories in that range that I was denying myself... I wish I had listened to them sooner.

Australia seems to have quite a fair few region free players. My Magnavox DVD player is region free and is still going after about seven or so years. It's cheap and not very flash, but does the job. Quite a few of the independent DVD producers do region free discs.

Have you tried unlocking your current DVD player to make it region free? List of nearly 7000 DVD player hack codes here. DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks) It's normally pretty simple, done it to my last 3 players. One of them I did have to search quite hard to find the code but it was out there on the interweb!

That's a nice list to know.

Actually, several years ago the Australian government was looking at region codes to decide whether they were anti-competitive - because they were in fact telling you you had to buy a certain region which, in many cases, were more expensive. Nothing happened though.

I sometimes wonder at these restrictions. I was watching a DVD from a few years back and they had an ad. on beforehand saying what a great product they had, comparing how long it took to download a movie and that the DVD was so great. Funny, but I think the very things they try to advertise, would put a lot of people off. They used to try to promote DVD as instant, get to the action - and then they'd put movie trailers on the beginning that you couldn't skip, ditto with piracy warnings. I want to sit down with a DVD that I own, and start the movie when I want to - not to go through all kinds of crap before I can actually get to watch the damn thing!

Oh well - they bite the hand that feeds too many times.

CDs in Australia were so expensive when they first released over here - $30 and up. When cassettes went out here and people had to buy CDs to get their music, the internet opened up the possibility of downloading music. Now they put the CDs down to affordable prices, people are illegally downloading music etc. They complain about sales of CDs. Too long they've bitten the hand that feeds.

I buy my music, where possible - be it CD or digital (though I prefer a physical copy). Though I do put down falling sales of music to there being a lot of crap in the music charts these days!

LC do a very good job and I can understand their focus on more of a download route, but the big music companies - been too greedy for too long.

That's my rant.

I've just finished the 3rd Medic Adv set. It's brilliant. Really evocative of the era. I agree that Ms Manny was a bit off. She doesn't really need to pretend to be 19 again as she sounds more like Joe when she's not trying to sound young I reckon. Something must be done about narration though! All in all I'd pay money for another one. Oh, and Trim Teloar was excellent I thought.

I felt like Katy sounded more like Jo in the scenes where she was obviously recording with Tim. Easily matched 19 year old Jo in many ways. But when she diverged onto her own private material the raspy tone of age crept back in.

Ergo, the scenes with her and the medic she did great, the scenes on her own were still great, just noticeably different. (IMO)

Spent the last few days listening to the Medic Unwound audios. (I never made it past the first one last time I tried) In my personal opinion the two with Mr. Warner and the Brig are really the only good Medic stories of the bunch. The one with the Brickyard and the Ginger was ok, but the rest ranged from terrible to mildly amusing. Ecsile pretty much sums up how I think a female Medic would go down....as a joke. I honestly kept waiting for Davey 10ant or one of the other cast to make a boob joke but it never happened. The worst was Dudline. It was like listening to a bad soap opera.

I rather love the 1st Unwound "Old mort..", Ive listened to that one a few times. True, nothing is as good as DaveW. (Which is why I can't wait for "Royalle Bluud". But it's always nice to hear Derek Jacobi in anything, so I'm assuming I liked "Dedlyne" (It's been years now, but I seem to remember liking it.)

While we're on the subject of "Royalle Bluud" - Ammazone appears to have a different release date listed than Wiki. (Maybe that's cause I'm in the states?, or maybe it's because the wiki page wasn't properly updated?) Any info is, of course, always appreciated.

I agree. They've had better prequels.

I will agree on that, but it was not as bad as the general consensus seems to be on the forum. I know I am in the minority (comes with being a card-carrying GOF), but I am not looking forward to this current season, based on what I've heard and seen. I feel Missy has no right to be in the TimeShip as a traveling companion, let alone being the female version of the M@ster (let's not get me started on what I feel about that!). And some of the scenes we've been privy (like the Medic acting all "rock star" and sporting a guitar and shades!) makes me really worry about how far Moff will run the show into the ground!

However, I did enjoy the prequel, esp. seeing the return of the Sisterhood of Karn. I wonder if Karn will figure into the season as all or was that Moff just trying to "clever" again.

I'm really not a fan of fan audios - not to do with quality or anything like that, but there's enough content out there already, and the fan audios contribute nothing to the overall canon. The only exceptions I make to fan produced content is when it comes to ones with officially licensed authors like Mite's Champion and Cam's Pain.

Jenna Coleman 'leaving' Doctor Who - BBC News (http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34266847)

I know a lot of you guys like her, but I am soooo glad she is leaving. So tired of the character at this point.

The time seems right for her to leave. I think it's a shame because she's a brilliant actress but has been served a duff character by the showrunners.

Her arc has been from unknowable cypher the Medic cannot trust in Series 7 to someone who complains about wanting to leave the Medic behind (except not really, but maybe, but not really, etc.) in Series 8, with precious little development or consistency from the writers. I think the character was far more enjoyable as Governess Clara with none of the 'scattered through time to help the medic' malarkey.

Oh thank goodness she's gonna be gone. Which should not reflect directly on the actress, as im still undecided about her.

Something that's been bugging me though - when (and how) exactly did she go from being a babysitter to being a full time teacher. Teaching isn"t a job you just go and get.

I'm with you. Look, I'm going to be frank here: I could look at Jenna ALL day! However, as far as a Companion, I feel Moff dropped the ball with her during the conclusion to the whole "Impossible Girl" plot. Now? She just feels like a Companion that should've left long ago. I felt it especially when I was I reading Book 1 of the "Glamourous Life" trilogy. The book was good, but I didn't really care what happened to her. Thankful she is absent for Book 2. Can't wait til we get to see PC and BS meet up! Ooooh boy!

Yeah, that was an odd jump. Now I prefer her as a teacher to as a nanny - but there was certainly an untold gap between Name and Day. And then they decide to rush through her boyfriend's story too...

Agreed.

With the character change of direction to being a teacher I wonder if SM originally had a new Companion in mind for an actress they couldn't get so just shoehorned Clara into the story instead?

You could argue she was doing the baby-sitting in her off term time, but it's a painful retcon to make with no indicator that babysitting was anything more than a part-time job.

Didn't they say that she wound up watching the kids because she was spending a week with the family before hitting the road and then their mom died? I think she was just helping out for a bit while he grieved.

I also feel that SM was writing Day and he said "wouldn't it be great if we revisited that old school? But how to make that happen..."

I always got the impression that the character simply didn't work when she was first introduced, but quite clearly JC had talent and potential, and they went back to the drawing board and rebuilt her character from the ground up, changing her profession and giving her a boyfriend. It's actually one of the things I most admired about last season - the way Clara and JC started to really blossom, and I think SM put a lot of work into her. She'll be missed!

Kris+ opinions;

I liked the new companion well enough. Its a welcome change from Flip. That said, I found myself desperately hoping that we would be getting a story where the alien is not Out To Conquer Earth. But that didn't happen.

I loved it! Here's a game... imagine the exact same episode with (spoiler protected to be absolutely careful):

Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, Nicholas Courtney, Terry Molloy and Anthony Ainley in the corresponding roles, and produced by JNT in the late 1980s....

...and I reckon fandom as a whole would remember it as one of the classic series finest moments!

I loved it as is, but that'd be amazing. I'm going to pretend that was part of season 27, after all, there was a similar story planned :P

Besides the few Moffisms, i was surprised just how much i enjoyed it. MedicPC was perfect as always. And MG is finally getting to stretch her legs.

BigMocha's comment nailed it though. You are absolutely 100% correct BM, couldn't agree more.

I have a bit more to say but... How do you make those spoiler boxes.

Replacing round brackets with square brackets, you go ..

Strange how it only took us 4 and half hours to reply and you beat me by 2 mins.

what i loved about thise episode is that it was a love letter to the fans of the old series -- having something from almost every Medic's era from the Missy's plan and the dismisal of the resurrection from both the Doctor and Missy;to the military unit ; to the sisterhood; the medic audio clips;the proclimation; the cantina; and combining the locale from the 2nd story and the 4th medic story on that planet.
The only thing i am thinking that hurt this is bad resolution on the cliffhanger....

I'm with you on that.

Though I do find that Moffatisms are beginning to grate with me nowadays.

Okay, so Mrs. Spacedog and I are to attend the Raleigh/Durham DW meetup next Saturday night for food and the U.S. premiere of "The Wizard's Protege" However, I took the leap and watched it a week early last night (thank you [email protected] for the lovely t0rrent). I will try to keep my thought s spoiler-free, and where I can't I shall use the appropriate tages..

So, first.. PC was fab as the Medic. Spot on! He really seems to live for the role, it shows! HOWEVER, the bit with he comes out playing the guitar, wearing Ray-Bans, and the dialogue.. Just no! It came off as silly! Nearlyat bit, I quite liked PC's portrayal!

M1ssy? Not so much. I've hate since her debut at the end of Series 8. Tried to watch her, but she comes like an angsty teen's attempt to reboot M@ry P0ppins. Her dialogue is beyond silly, waaay too OTT! Sure, AA had his silly moments, and yeah, LC's AMcQ's Mawster can be quite witty, but there's the rub: witty, not forced down our throat silliness! I felt she was more panto than any real threat! But, considering I am a GOF, it's probably just me, I guess..

Cl@ra? Good lord! When did she become the fill-in for the Medic? She's been given more virtual responsibility than any previous Companion! And while she shared the divine fortune of having been with ALL of the Incarnations as some point in his Time, I think that's just Moff taking things a bit too far! A part of me was hoping when [spoiler] the dalek shot her, that it was going to be her final episode. But, well, that would be too much of a bloody Christmas miracle for me! *grin*

While the episode just REEKED of Eau Du Moff, I did like a lot of it. I will be watching next week's episode what sort of timey-whimey BS Moff serves up for the conclusion. But, man, oh man, how I wish we could get a BOGO, with JC leaving, maybe he will change his mind and make 9 his last as Showrunner! Ah well, one can hope..

Was it just me, but when Missy stepped out into 'space' and walked along the flat surface of 'space', there was almost a touch of old school bad CSO about it. Just needed a touch of Dudley Simpson wobbly electronic music to sell it...
