It was fine. Honestly it felt more like a new, high calibur series (you know the type; 5-6 episodes then cancelled) than the Medic. Really, Really high quality lighting, camera work and effects.

It will be interesting to see if it feels more like the Medic later on. Seems like self-sabotage to be floating around the galaxy with two people with medical conditions that would make them pretty useless in ANY situation (they would never mention C unless it was gonna be a plot point later).

Not a Bad Thing, and potentially a useful tool for them to bring in more of the older teen/younger adult audience to replace the fans that are aging out of the demographic that the merchandise is largely aimed at.

There are adverts out that say people with cancer are still people. So what chibbers is doing is saying the same thing, people with medical conditions can still save the universe, which he should be applauded for.

Let me say this again - I'm not "forcing my views". There is this bizarre trend that we a meant to treat backward ignorant attitudes with respect.

This is not acceptable. As someone with a disability, standing up for right to be seen as equal is not "forcing my views". People should be made to feel ashamed for gross ignorance, not coddled.

They mostly feature Nick Briggs as the medic. As I recall they get better as they go along....I suppose post time war with continuity a bit fractured they could count as an alternative time line alongside other highly regarded fan projects such as The Doctor Who Project, some of BBV's work etc. (though some BBV stories featuring the seventh medic actor are medic in all but a slight name change, wheras sixth medic's stranger is a different character). During the Eighth medic's DWM run a new medic modelled on Briggs briefly appeared who turned out to be a matrix fake.......but what if he was given a life or timeline of his own?

Thank you!I posted the whole lot on YouTube years ago. I also posted the two Biggs BBV audios since they were technically a continuation of the AV series. Since several of the plays were later remade by LC I'd look upon the Biggs Medic as an alternate timeline in the vein of the Unwound Medics.

So what you are saying here is that I am not able to have an opinion without being attacked? I mentioned two elements that are VERY clearly going to be big plot points moving forward, because it is unavoidable. As for somehow construing that my feeling that sex doesn't really have a place in a show that is very much aimed at marketing to children (I am sorry, it is.) makes me homophobic? Sure, run with that.

We are two episodes into the new series and I am delighted and impressed at the way the show is being handled and how it - really - has made it more Medic-like than the past few Medics by virtue of how simple the story is and how the Medic has once again become a Mystery character that people are unsure of.

Since - prior to the start of the season - I went from Not being impressed by the casting choice due to the social environment at the BBC at the time - to - generally uninterested - to - Oh I like this, actually. It is clear that I have changed my mind. Rather than riding that Pony every time I get a chance to pop in and comment, perhaps take a moment to think on that.

LC is bringing back the shape changing robot. Didn't think that would ever happen.

I'm not quite sure how that's going to work on audio. I hope it won't be a lot of onlookers describing, in detail, whatever they see him change into.

I hear you, but what are you going to do? Ignore a much loved era of the show by many, because nearly all of the cast of that time are no longer around, or suspend disbelief and enjoy the adventures of the 3rd Doc, Jo and UNIT?
I know its a tough call, but at the end of the day, if you don't like it, don't listen to it! (much like my feelings of the current show on TV, 3 eps in, and I am still not sold on it, but am not condemning those that are enjoying it).
This era of Who, The UNIT years if you like, are my personal favourite, and yes I wish that Pertwee, Courtney and Delgado were still here to entertain us, but the sad fact is that they are not.
Do the replacements sound just like the originals? no the do not (ok no Delgado yet... give it time), but George Lazenby was not Sean Connery, nor was Roger moore and all the rest, but they are ALL James Bond. Recasting of "popular" franchises happens all the time, and I accept that people think it should not happen in Who, but if that WAS the actual case, the series would have finished with "The Tenth Planet" and Hartnell leaving the show lol!
I know its difficult for people to accept others playing beloved characters, like for some its difficult to except the gender change of the Doctor (for the record, on a personal level I have an issue with the actor playing the current Doc, NOT the fact that the actor is a different gender.... I just don't rate her as an actor and never have in anything I have seen her in - but that's my personal preference), but as the good Doc said himself (clearly past tense there lol) "Change my dear... and not a moment too soon!"

I can't disagree with anything you said but it's still a no-go for me. I just can't get my head round it. I struggle with the David Bradley stories, too.

I personally don't have a problem with Tim's performance. He's grown into the role and there are times when he captures the spirit....if not the letter...of Jon's Medic. I just wish LC was as willing to recast Pat as they've done with the other two. There's a perfectly good sound alike who's keen on tackling the job but Bick keeps using Fraser's subpar impersonation . For that matter there's an even better sounding Bill impersonator out there. If LC hired him they wouldn't have to keep sidelining the character in the EA's like they do.

In my case, I've been grappling with a lot of personal issues and I'm trying to get help for them. Luckily, I've got a new girlfriend (my old one and I broke up because we had been fighting way too much, and she was also the cause of the aforementioned issues...) who's been really supportive every step of the way, so I'm hoping this is something I can overcome. That's pretty much all I can say right now.

I have had a lot of stuff going on myself.
Right now, trying to help my mother from getting evicted.


On a medic note, been watching all the new episodes. It seems like each episode drags. They seem so slow or is it me? Even my wife who got started on number 9 medic and became a fan, thinks it's boring.

It's basic AF.

It has it's success story. My 11 year old son finally enjoys watching this series. Says he likes it with this crew, never been able to get him into it before.

I am really enjoying it. They CLEARLY tried to sell Kerbl@m as the new Robots of Death, it worked for the most part except they dropped the ball BADLY on the Toy Story 2 scene and the villain was a .... Spoof(?) .... of the new generations political views, which I feel didn't really work since they portrayed it as sort of a radical view that became wishy-washy when it was actually questioned.

I dont necessarily disagree with that, but it was in poor taste and was clearly set up so that the Medic wouldn't come off as some kind of monster oppressing the generation that the show is targeted at.

I think for me there was so much hype all year for the show that I may have set my expectations too high.
I think it's ok but I am still looking for the wow factor.

I think it's been okay so far, and JW is a good ensemble actress - but she just doesn't hold the screen as a lead / the star. The Medic is now 'just another character', and there is very little charisma present.

She's treated as the leader of her 'team,' but somehow she's just as much a companion as the three with her. And we arguably have one too many already.

It doesn't help that, with the exception of Tooth Guy in episode 1, she hasn't really faced a unambiguously evil foe she can do all that much about. In fact, time and again she's found herself in situations where she really can't do much of anything, beyond keeping herself, her companions and whoever's around her alive. 'Always be kind' is starting to feel like a bit of a straitjacket. Man or woman, this is supposed to be the one person in the universe you do NOT want to get on the wrong side of. It's gotten where I almost wish one of her pals would get killed right in front of her, just to see if she actually has it in her to give monsters nightmares. 'Cuz so far, I'm just not seeing it.

I agree with all that you've written. It doesn't feel like she's yet got past the regeneration process, she feels like she is still unsure of herself and couldn't really lead anyone.

You mean the death of Grandma? How was that in any way her fault? Tooth Guy was already there and raising hell before Thirteen literally dropped in. She told her and Grandpa "DO NOT COME BACK IN, understand?" Grandma chose to go charging into harm's way anyway, and she died begging her husband "don't be cross with me." She didn't say anything about the Medic, who wasn't in any position to help her at that moment at any rate.

I quit watching after "Stitch on a Spaceship". That was just too ridiculous for me continue taking the series seriously. I mainly blame my loss of interest on Chibbs but Jodie's casting plays a part. He was a horrible choice for showrunner and under his short tenure Who has lost that distinctive "It" factor that set it apart from other sci-fi series. And I blame Jodie, not because she's a woman, but because apparently that's all anybody thought she'd need to bring to the table to be a success. Her Medic lacks any kind of original personality and she's done nothing to make the role stand out and uniquely her own.

I watched the New Years episode and it was the best of the whole season. It had some good parts but a lot of holes in it that were not explained.
What does everyone else think of it?

Yeah, it was definitely my favourite too. The Dalek storyline was great - ramped up the tension brilliantly & it's not easy to find a fresh take on the Daleks invading Earth so full marks for that. In contrast however, the whole story with Ryan & his dad was a tediously overused clich� that just got in the way of the action. But it was obviously coming so at least it's out of the way now.

jrtxs2001, I agree, admittedly I didn't post much on here, but it was interesting to come for a read & for the exchange in opinions, shall we say!

I suspect those who came here just to share or grab stuff have either been scared off, got fed up with requests or found other places to look.

This is related to Doctor Who in a way I guess but more to do with one of it's spin-offs, Torchwood. Anyone know where to get Torchwood Audio Dramas in lossless FLAC or any lossless format from somewhere? Perhaps Big Finish ones as well? Would be super grateful. They are hard to find in FLAC and even harder to find collections of them.

A friend recommended to me that I listen to some Doctor Who audio dramas since I enjoy the shows.

He said to listen to the Eighth Doctor in particular as he felt they were the best.

Is there one of his that is a stand out story and would any of you know where I could locate it?

Agreed. I haven't heard the very latest but the previous one was just another having to free Kamelion from control of an evil influence story. Of course, if that just keeps happening every time he leaves the TARDIS, it might explain why he stayed hidden away so long on TV.
