Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried ripping dal invsn ov erth on DVD with the special updated cgi effects? I've tried with handbrake on a mac and it seems like I can only rip the original with flying saucers on string! Anyone tried to do the same with any success? Am I just missing something obvious?

@davie80 - Have you tried DVDShrink? Stick it in there, select the Angle 2s only, delete subtitles/commentaries and shrink it so it doesn't break it up into multiple parts (edit/preferences/output files/deselect "split vob...").

Handbrake should then only recognize one angle.

Handbrake, unfortunately, has a terrible time with angles, so on those DVDs (you'll notice that there are weird audio breaks when the angle changes and occasionally a funky video pause--The Time Warrior being the most obvious I've seen so far), I've taken to sticking them into VirtualDub, doing direct stream copy on the video, but then full processing mode, audio from other file (select the .vob), compression 128 lame mp3, interleaving audio skew correction -100, volume -20... Save as avi. The audio should fix (no quality loss to the video stream).

Handbrake 0.9.3 was the last version to support avi/xvid.

Frankly, I really hate the alternate angles and I'd rather lose them from the DVDs entirely. My DVD player goes berserk and skips to the next scene when it hits an angle split (and actually does trippy corridor repeat-o vision or straight-out freezes on Revelation of the Daleks--which has a severe encoding error). And Handbrake doesn't love them either. DVDFab handles the angles (though the audio goes out of sync at the very end on RotD--I'm terrified to try on Handbrake--I might have to hit VirtualDub to fix it up), but the quality isn't quite as good (the black & white episodes will give you a strange double-image sometimes--like it's sitting in-between frames) and the horrific crop functionality sucks. Handbrake's newest versions haven't done anything to the angle problem--they just took away choosable formats. The crop tool is the best one I've ever used, however. And make sure you use deinterlace "slower" only--you'll notice the black & white credits won't line up if you have decomb selected (as well as occasional jaggies and double-frame--strangely noticeable on lips)! Apple TV (except change it to -6/-6 deblocking for a sharper image) is the best preset.

I use 'MacTheRipper' to grab the entire image and then the good ol' OSX built in DVD player for playback. I've given up trying to get any decent 'episode' rip from a DVD as there's so many combinations of sizes and formats and - AND ABOVE ALL - it just takes so bloody long for the conversion. I'd rather have the large VIDEO_TS folder than all the phaff.

If I want the episodes separately ... well ... that's what the internet, and the lovely geeks that do all the transcoding far better than I can be arsed to do, is for! :)

NileQT1987

Eh, the massive jumbo pack of rips leaves a lot to be desired as far as rips go (a lot of frankly horrible VHS rips in there--I can't wait until I can finally say goodbye to The Dmons, which is choppy pixelization/washed-out hell--I converted the Recon_Mission recons, as most of the Loose Canon ones in the jumbo pack are actually unwatchable/unlistenable--and the narrated tracks really help).

Handbrake is the most successful ripper I've found so far (quality is good and it does 2-passes). It's also very fast and you can see what it's coming out as while you rip (really useful when you're cropping). If I ever decide to make a fanvid, I'm going to need .avis. It's also a hassle to try to watch the DVDs in VLC player, as not even that supports those stupid sfx angles (I have next to no interest in those and the 5.1 mixes that make the bad '80s scores even more noticeable--though I do prefer the elongated recut for The Five Doctors due to *more* footage). At least I can chuck them out and get the episode length numbers to show up with the .avis, rather than the length until the first angle switch.

Nobber

Yeah, some rips can be on the crummy side, but if you hang around in the right places long enough I find you soon work out who pushes 'the good stuff'. I got a lot of very good rips via USENET and there's two users that I know will, 99.9% of the time, have either perfect DVD 'VIDEO_TS' rips or DIVX Episode Rips.

have a question regarding the fine bf audios here. how do others listen to them. what time and when. i find some of the audios a bit of a task to keep up. even the ;must-have' ones. perhaps its because the 4 part format doesn;t suit anymore. very difficult to remember all the characters right through. although i do believe it is mostly my problem - memory - and not the audios, listened to 2 eps and by the time i get a chance to hear the next two, i have no idea where i am. i have tried using the dw ref guide with some success. jubillee, spare parts, the one doctor and bang-bang-a-boom are so easy to digest.
What do others think???

I listen to them about 75% in my car, 25% on my computer. I have to multi-task because I always have one that I'm listening to with my kids, so when I drive without them I start a new one that I think they'll be less interested in and listen to that on my own... so I'm almost always working my way through at least two stories in parallel! I've only really gotten into the audios fairly recently so I jump all around the chronology, mostly listening to 5th and 6th (and now 4th) Doctor stories and haven't yet gotten clobbered too heavily by the BF-only continuity; I started off sticking to adventures with the TV companions only and have only recently branched out to the BF-invented companions.

99% of them I listen to the entire story in one go as I take myself away from the PC and have a decent walk to a decent pub where I'll also sit and catch-up on beer and non-screen based reading.

The four-part format does get in the way at times, though. There's been a few recently (the Shelley ones in particular) that felt oddly padded to fit the 4x25 minute format where 2x40 may have been better.

If it's a new one, I tend to listen to it all in one go so I can hear the story in it's entirety. Then I'll go through the mp3s of the tracks and delete the CD extras, since I feel I don't need to listen to them more than once. I then use some mp3 joining software to make bigger mp3 files for each individual part of the story. Then I open those in Audacity to add a couple more seconds of silence at the end so there's a bit more of a gap if I want to listen to them again on my mp3 player. Then after exporting, I add the album art using this program called "Album Cover Art Downloader". Then I re-tag the mp3s in the program mp3tag with info like the writer, what number release it is, which range it's in, etc. It's a bit tedious, but I consider it easier to organize the audio dramas that way. Oh, and each audio drama is in it's own folder, which makes it easy to drag and drop onto my mp3 player. :)

For joins, i use krystal wave editor and morpher music gold to make waves (cd ex won't do it properly using krystal). I do it manually as little bits are at the start and end of the tracks that you have to non-include to join up. and like you, the aim is to have all neat 4 eps at 128kbps for mp3 player.

Q Space had 51 members, and TTA had 35, it would be good if most were here, as it is, there are about 20 currently in this thread.....

As for the Phoenix, he is here and pops up every now and then [he is also a member of another site with Burnie and I] if you would like to see/hear some of his group's work, please visit:

Not a Doctor Who series, but this has A LOT of British comedy personal - waiter from Robin's Nest, Yes Minister, Aleki Sayle, Geoffrey Palmer, John Cleese and more - most have been in DW and is dead set the funniest thing you will see this year. Seriously, John Cleese smuggling a nuclear bomb in a coffin is a blast.

And now - a honest question. I know that the streets of America are designed so that the closest to the centre of action are "1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenue, etc..." so any tourist sorta knows where to go. But when I see DW merch that says "Available at a high street store near you", I don't really know what that means. I get that it's the main street in town, but nothing more. How many 'High Streets' are there in England then? Every town???

It was a bit funny growing up here in Boonah. The paper shop was (and still is) on Boonah's High Street (because it was set high from everywhere else) and I'd read Starburst magazines, etc... that stated these magazines where available 'at a High Street store near you' and bummer...they never came. :-(

That's pretty much it - High Street is just a term that means the main street in every town, usually where all the shops are! They're often called 'High Street' but not always!

WH Smith is an example of a high street store - one of many! The term high street store usually refers to chain stores that are seen in almost every high street! (There's about two in my little town - one of which is WH Smith)!

D'oh! I missed a bit from my previous paragraph. It was something to do with a magazine (I honestly can't remember which) which for for some odd licensing and distribution deal meant that only WH-Smith carried the magazine.

Sooo, W H Smith (which we don't have here - bit like Borders at a guess) makes sure that all there shops are in the local High Street so they can advertise "available at a High Street store near you" instead of paying x dollars for advertising there name - or just to make the W H Smith locations easy to find. Brilliant!!!

It wasn't so much as not PAYING for advertising, but more for the case that the BBC cannot advertise or endorse particular outlets.

This request, while odd, is in fact DW-related:

Does anyone have digital copies (or the ability to create same) of the soundtrack to the early '60s production of "My Fair Lady" costarring Jon Pertwee? His showcase numbers are "Get Me to the Church on Time" and "With a Little Luck". Looks like I can hijack the sound from YouTube postings, but a real mp3 or similar ripped from vinyl would be much better!

Also, I've just noticed my copy of the BF audio "Hores of Snotar" is totally corrupt... could surely use a legit one.

Thanks unto you all.

besthead
03-15-2012, 06:18 AM
If you people actually want to hear the audios from BF, and don't want them taken down immediately, perhaps you shouldn't keep naming them directly so that they easily show up in any google or bing or other search. You're basically pointing them right to those files to have them taken down immediately.

And that includes in requests too.

NOT SMART!

@ dx121 -- Thank you for saying what I was dying to say. Just because we're all masters at... Googling (well, that's my collection--some of us actually have things to share afresh), doesn't mean we have every fandom related-material there has ever been (now, I can help out a bit with Elvis, Jossverse and Dark Shadows material at the moment, but otherwise Doctor Who is what's eating my multiple hard drives!). ...I've never even seen the original Planet of the Apes. LOL.

Speaking of comics... Somebody has done an amazing job collecting entire issues of TV Comic and related mags (not just the DW strips, though those fill in parts of missing issues--and those uploads actually filled in a hole I had with some Pertwee strips--some are also much better scans). No luck yet finding the rest of Battles in Time and the Doctor Who Adventures mini-mags--that accounts for most of the holes in my comic collections.

From what I see regarding TV Comic and its kin:

Missing:
First Doctor: The Secrets of Gemino (TV Comic 753-754 & 757), The Haunted Planet (TV Comic 758-762), The Hunters of Zerox (TV Comic 763-767).
Second Doctor: The Space Pirates (TV Comic 859-863), Car of the Century (TV Comic 864-867), The Jokers (TV Comic 868-871).
Fourth Doctor: The Eerie Manor (TV Comic 1371-1372), Guardian of the Tomb (TV Comic 1373-1379), The Image Makers (TV Comic 1380-1385), The Wanderers (TV Comic 1404-1408), The Metal Eaters (TV Comic 1409-1415), Moon Exploration (TV Comic 1416-1423).

Ooh, thank you so much for the comic. I thought it had been ages since the last one was out. ShipJ failed me this week (and he's usually so good at collecting comics)!

I recently came across DVD9s on a filestube search...

Unearthly, Daleks, Edge, War Games, Robot, Logopolis and Castrovalva are there! The first three I knew about being on the Web, but hadn't noticed the others.

I kinda like Flip, but I find her recklessness gets a bit irksome at times. But she does bring out an almost paternal side to Six which I find really interesting and compelling to listen to. And yes, Colin is on fine form. I recently listened to "Whispers of Terror" for the first time, and it feels like he's a totally different character before meeting Evelyn Smythe. It's really cool

Yeah, I'll grant you the bringing out of 6's Paternal side (and from the extras I feel Colin's, too.) but she still feels 'lite' so far. At least I don't actively DISlike her, if you see what I mean. I don't like or dislike. She just IS. Which sorta makes it worse, again, if you see what I mean. Hopefully she'll grow on me as it's obvious her and Colin enjoy working together. (More so than I feel, say, Paul and Julie Cox.)

Bit of both, really. But when you check the page regularly and see the same images over'n'over again ... well ... y'know ... (Looks Chagrined).

I used to use AdBlock in similar circumstance, but the more you have that blocking stuff the more it slows down rendering of pages as it has more to check if it needs to download or not.

I started out with Windows 97. I got use to it. I got a Windows XP and 2000 (both used and had short life spans, poor pcs), and adored them. Vista wasn't so bad. Windows 7 pisses me off to no end. So yeah, may not *exactally* be the same, but I can relate. Sometimes 'newer' isn't always 'better', especially if you've grown accustomed to one simplistic way / manner / method of doing something.
But, on that same note, sometimes newer, though we may not entirely like it for the better, brings in a little something new we'll utterly enjoy. ~*is still trying to find something I actually enjoy about Windows 7 over Vista and XP and '97*~

lol Well, really, you have to admit, those pages were less the website host's fault, and more the fault of the individuals who made those websites on those website hosts servers. (And I use to have a tiny section of my own website on Geocities and Angelfire. Also began with Homestead, Tripod, Biz.ly, Dreamhost (which was NOT a 'dream host' to use, then ended up on Envy.nu.)
Then again, the same can be said for most any website host out there. They just offer the service. It's up to the individual how they choose to 'decorate' the pages of their website. Some are good at it, and some are just really, REALLY crappily bad at it.

Thanks for these. Hope you'll upload 6D WI as well. :)
You're very welcome, though that's kinda implying that I have the willpower or desire to try getting any more via Davros's Rapidshare links. (Nearly 2 hours for a single file?!? - and that's praying like a mad woman that the blasted thing doesn't just stop midway through. which has happened several times since the massive slowdown- ugh.. It's as bad as using Furk.net or Netload, and, mind you, those places are HORRID -which is being overly nice about it-. I may enjoy these stories, but I can wait for the rest to be available on other servers. For now, I think I'll just avoid Rapidshare like the plague. Just for the sake of my own sanity.)

I'll always have premium Rapidshare. For everything I get each month in music and audios, it helps my sanity not to wait for at least one filehost. $40 for 3 months worth of free stuff is fairly good. Think about it...if you lived in the 70's and someone told you that in 40 years time, you would be able to get AS MANY MUSIC, MOVIES AND AUDIOS AS YOU WANT for a low, low cost of $40 for 3 months (Australian) - wouldn't you sorta think that's a bit neat.
Uploaded also good and Mediafire is the max.
Only the Talon boys to go...yayyy!!!!!
Thanks Davros.

Ooo. You poor bugger.

The thing about Tripod (et-al) was that as they were primarily used by Students there was so much cool stuff on there once you could find it. I remember finding a full copy of the AD&D rules as a text file that some poor sod had obviously hand-typed out. :)

(And, oh, the happy memories of then the dial-up BBS was king. Then it all got messy with DOS IP stacks that fought for memory with Windows and Mosaic was the browser for The Cool Kids.)

I don't mind paying a reasonable price but i prefer to get a physical copy rather than downloads. There isn't anywhere local that i can buy them either. I'm watching ebay but most of what is on there i already have or they are asking unreasonable prices.

No arguements there.

More power to you. I'm just a stickler for the freebies I suppose. I mean, why pay for something you can get for free elsewhere? (At least when it comes to some things.) And there will always be smaller, lesser known file hosts with no captures, no wait times, and fast download times.

Blech about uploaded.to. They blocked US access. >:(

Well for the record i Hated megaupload
Why? Way back in the day I'd used them a bit for some of my own personal files. Easy enough uploading time (about as slow as any other uploading to a file host I've used), the fastest downloading times I'd known from my small selection of file hosts. What was it you found unfavorable about them? O.o?

Also, lol you deserve a metal for just having a kid and surviving those first 10 years of their life. My sisters all have hubbies and kids and good god, it makes me sooooo glad to not have any of my own. (No offense meant, but I'm just saying, that's sooo not my cup of tea. ^_^U Not parent material.)

I'm not saying that, davros. I'm grateful for you sharing. I'm just a bit annoyed at the dick moves Rapidshare's been pulling as of late.
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Nothing against you wanting to share what you have Davros, it's always appreciated, but it's just ...to be gentle about it, Rapidshare is annoying with the painfully slow speed, and even pauses and breaks in the downloading process.
Kinda reminds me of over on a comic site I visit. I managed to get a hold of the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest first 3 comics, but it left on a cliffhanger. The only access I had to the remaining comics of the series was either by a torrent, by downloading from Furk, or shelling out $30 for the whole set that I'd only read once then either throw away or give away for free.
I spent 3 separate days *attemtping* to download the full file from Furk, but gave up after the 10 hour mark with the file only at 1/2 or 3/4 downloaded.
The torrent (which says nothing about the inherent threat of people being monitored by federal agencies and can come after and sue people for sharing / downloading stuff) had no seeds.
And, well, buying the comics was just a waste since I'd only read them once. I just wanted to know how the story ended. I could understand if it was for a movie, or a stage play, but ... comics?
In the end, someone was kind enough to somehow get a hold of all 12 issues and post them across different file hosts for people, including lil ol' me, to get.

So, in any case, thank you very much for taking the time to want to share what you have, even if it is via Rapidshare, but unless we've got the money to spare for a premium account, it sucks for we free users who don't want to shell out the money or don't have it to spare. Seriously, seriously sucks.

With their sales 99.9% of the time you'll also get the associated download to listen to whilst the CDs ship (and I think they're very cheap on that front, too.)

I've been reading the back issues of Big Finish's magazine Vortex and it has left me feeling guilty. Unfortunately, after buying all the books, I just can't afford to pay for them just yet. I am keeping track of sales so that I can get the best possible deal when I do start getting them nearer to Christmas. As it stands, I roughly estimate that their back catalog would set a person back about 8 grand for the CDs. On the other hand, they just had the EDAs on sale for 200 off. I love the EDAs, it just killed me to watch that sale come and go. The most recent issue of Vortex says that the sale was an experiment and may not be repeated despite the fact that they also claim it was a resounding success. On yet another hand, last summer they had the first 50 stories on sale for half off regular price and about forty percent off subscription price. There is just so much to buy.

In the nicest possible way, I think they're actually producing too much in the DW range. They always knew they were aimed at a niche market, but they're expecting people to shell out a hell of a lot these days if they want to keep absolutely current. (And I think it's had an effect on the quality of the releases, too.)

And I'd bet that it wouldn't hurt them to start releasing via iTunes, too, especially the 1-50 back catalogue.

"premium link generators".

Rapid8.Com | MegaUpload Fileserve Filesonic RapidShare Premium Link Generator. Fast Direct Download 2012 (http://rapid8.com/)

CrazyLeech.com - Rapidshare, Hotfile and Fileserve premium link generator (http://www.grandleech.com/)

(There are many, many more you can find with google.).

One just pastes a rapidshare link into the suggested text field.

tap a button.

They download the link from rapidshare with a premium account onto their server at super impressive speeds.

The better sites do this in a couple seconds.

then they supply a link that allows you to download the data from their secure servers at "full" speed.

"They" make their money usually through advertising, some more invasive than others, but offer premium services to avoid popups if you don't know how to install popup blockers.

Making rapidshare and other difficult free cyberlockers very usable.

I have a rapidshare premium account, though I have no intention of renewing once it runs out. The area I'm in makes it hard for me to access the internet for long periods of time. When I'm doing a d/l I usually get kicked offline 4-5 times before I can get the files. Those suggestions above work fine if you aren't kicked offline as much as I am and Rapidshare won't, even with a premium account, restart the d/l from where it left off. I have my own programs for that, but they don't work with Rapidheadache due to the way its set up to be user unfriendly now. If I have to I'll just buy copies, but BF's d/ling is just as bad as Rapidshare, they don't support resuming in any way that I've found using several different programs. This has always made grabbing these files hard for me.

My problem with megaupload was that every time I tried to download anything it said that I'd already exceeded the download limit, and to try again in 20 mins. When I did that the same thing happened. I tried megakey but that caused a problem with sincing my iphone. It would take hours of trying to get anything to download. I do have sympathy for anyone who has problems with rapid share but over all I don't think any others are any better. My initial response was mainly due to a major lack of sleep and I mistakenly thought the remarks were aimed at me. I apologise .

Davros, ah, I see. So that's what the problem was. Megaupload just didn't like iPhones. It loves pc. Go figure.
There's a game I play online, it works wonderfully for anyone using a desktop. For anyone using a laptop, however, there is a LOT of lag (where everyone else seems to stop moving except for your game character) then, after several seconds, everyone else seems to speed up then go back to regular speed.
We don't know why the game hates laptop users so much, but go figure.

Have you tried using any other free file hosts?

lol No, no no no. Not hardly. They weren't directed at you (we still love ya to bits and pieces). They were directed at the stupid slow speeds of Rapidshare.

Graceless 2 failed? Hadn't heard.

According to Vortex, Itunes is out of the question because of how much money they keep per sale. It would essentially kill their profit margin. Another letter writer suggested a Netflix style service but they would have to DRM the CDs and the cost of DRM would kill their profit margin. I was on the verge of sending them a letter when I read this. I wanted to suggest a Napster style service where you could pay a monthly fee and listen to the older audios. Now I know that the DRM would kill their profit margins.

The problem for me with looking at paying for these in the near future is the sheer amount they release per month. I can shift my DW DVD budget to the audios but that'll only cover the monthyly and the CCs and maybe half of another release. But they release a monthly, a CC, a third title (currently a 4dA soon to be a lost story), and half the time they put out a boxset on top of that. Yeah, you can preorder the boxsets and save a little but it is still a lot.

Ok, perhaps "Failed" is too strong a word, but in a recent podcast from BF Day 2 they've said there's no more as no-ones buying it. I read elsewhere that only a (relative) handful of people pre-ordered, too.

The whole iTunes stuff is bollox. really, as many people have said they'd get more stuff direct from BF but can't due to not being able to purchase via credit/debit-card, but they would get through iTunes as they can use pre-paid cards. So they're losing sales.

They'd probably attract more casual buyers, too. Apparently it's worked well for B7 media and CosmicHobo.

And, in all honesty, I wonder how many people have gone to that bloody awful website and the very amateur looking check-out system and gone 'Maybe not ....'

Put the old stuff on iTunes and get SOME money rather than NO money, really. The first 50 monthlies, S1 of the CCs, the Dredd stories - basically anything where it's probably not worth the effort of reprinting CDs.

EDIT TO ADD - Or, to put it another way, if they're still trying to break-even on releases that old their business plan is completely screwed.

EDIT TO ADD - Or, to put it another way, if they're still trying to break-even on releases that old their business plan is completely screwed.

Certainly their older stuff could be put up since it's already paid for but it's a safe bet that they'd get more profit if people bought directly from them. (Apple really does hog a large percentage of the sales for themselves.) That profit would then be used to fund the newer stuff. They do like it when a release pays for itself before it's actually available for sale. Unlike Graceless 2. Heck, you can preorder Gallifrey 5 and 6 despite their Feb/Nov 2013 release dates.

Incidentally, two of the behind the scenes guys on s1 of the CC refuse to even discuss signing a contract to allow dl that stuff. Because they suck.

You're right though. People are quirky. They would be more willing to try the audios out if they could get them from a familiar merchant like iTunes. Then they'd be angry and confused about why they can't get the most recent stuff from them. I'd like to think that at BF they've sat down and discussed this to death and made a rational decision based on all the available facts which benefits the largest number of people. I'd also like to think that the fall elections will go smoothly and not annoy the living piss out of me. Listen to this logic. The Dec 2010 bonus story, originally available to any monthly subscriber which included the Dec release, will never be made available for individual sale. You'll be able to add it as your free disc with any 12 story subscription but it will never be sold separately. Why? Because by adding value to the subscription service, they'll entice more people to subscribe. I'm sure if we took a poll of this forum, nobody would have gotten the title to which I refer from an illicit source because their strategy was so successful. I've stated a few times that I can't afford their CDs now but I promise to get them in the near future. You know what would cause me to break down and run up a slight credit card bill splurging on these fantastic stories? A subscriber only bonus! No, wait that's stupid. Sales on older stuff. When I saw the old advert for half off their first 50 stories I was shocked. I'm going to hold out for a sale like that and I'm going to jump on it regardless of how low the balance on my card is.

I think the real problem is that BF is just too damn small a company. If the BBC ever decided not to renew their DW license, they'd be finished despite their efforts to try and diversify with the Highlander, Stargate, Dark Shadows and other audios. Reading Vortex, it's implied that their wharehouse staff is three people. This is supported by their news that the EDA sale was such a success that they'll be backordered and please be patient. It may also explain why the various monthly releases have no fixed date, i.e. they package everyone's order and ship them the same day. Just a theory. Anyway, I just don't think they have enough staff to float ideas or opinions or even paid for advice on how to spur sales. Or to build an efficient website/ordering system.

Personally, I have to have the CD. Price wise that's not a wise choice since the DL are about half off. At least here in the US anyway. You know what would be nice is if they had a certified US seller of their fine products. That'd certainly help on reducing shipping costs anyway. In the meantime, I've been looking around and their site seems to be the best deal in terms of CDs sold in groups. Mike's Comics here in the US has a better deal on groups of 10 for the monthly stories 50-150 but every other boxset or website I've perused wants more for just about everything else. Buying used seems to be a crapshoot since some stories sell for less than BF wants new and some for far more. Shada is a good example. Seems to run about twenty dollars plus on Amazon and ebay but BF sells it for 10.50ish shipped. Come to think about it, that supports your theory that people would rather buy from a familiar site. Apparently even if it costs more. So buying a subscription from BF or a group of 10 from Mike's becomes dicey because it might be cheaper used or it might average out over 10-12 titles. Since it's used, it might also depend on what day of the week it is. Buying the DW books used taught me that it's going to be a headache either way.

When I buy, I'm going to try and support BF directly as much as possible but it would be foolhardy not to try and save some money given the sheer amount of stories available. It's too bad that BF doesn't seem to see the value in reducing the price of their older releases in order to hook new listeners. Maybe making little profit on the first two dozen CDs and making them available on Itunes or other sites would then get more customers on their website buying. Just saying.

If you search for "Sirens of Time" or indeed the titles of any of the first 50 BF main range releases, you'll find them on iTunes...

Well bugger me. They've kept that quiet. (Er ... considering I rarely listen to the podcast these days and it's been ages since I've read vortex.)

See they've got the Robin Hood's on there, too.

EDIT TO ADD - They could have made they easier to find - but I blame that on iTunes more than BF. If you search for 'Big Finish' all you get is the podcasts and nothing if you search for "Big Finish Productions"

EDIT TO ADD MORE - And I can't see anything obvious about it on the site. Not even on the release page.

Wonder what bit-rate they are?

And where do you send corrections? They've got 'Colin Baker' staring in 'Nekromentia' (or how ever you spell it)

According to Vortex, Itunes is out of the question because of how much money they keep per sale. It would essentially kill their profit margin.

(ENGAGES COMEDY SMUG MODE...)

Betcha feeling a bit daft now, huh?

I was only quoting them. Like you, whenever I checked I searched for Big Finish which returns the podcast. A search for Doctor Who returns the 4th BBC audios and 39 BF titles. All are dated either Feb 1 or March 1 2012. I can find no announcement or advertisement touting their release. Searching for titles like Colditz doesn't even put them up in the overall search, you have to hit 'see all' under albums. Why wouldn't they advertise these better? Are they trying to make the experiment fail? Also, BF charges 8-10 US for the dl and itunes wants 11. Guess they're trying to make up the difference.

As far as feeling daft, read my signature. I'm immune to it on at least six levels. :::raspberry:::

EDIT TO ADD - And the failure of 'Graceless II' may force them to rethink the "if we record it, they will come" attitude they felt to have got into for a while.

Failure? It's only just been released! The last BF podcast I heard that mentioned it (from Gallifrey One) said that although Graceless wasn't a huge success in terms of sales, it's gone down very well and sold enough for a 2nd series. And if Graceless 2 sells well enough they'll do a 3rd series.

Read what I said later where I granted that "failure" was probably too harsh a word and the the confirmation from their podcast that there would be no more.

Teehee!!!

:)

Yeah, it's very odd that they don't seem to be shouting about it.

Would they be so stupid as to deliberately set themselves up to screw up like that? Dunno. But it's very odd. As I said, I've not properly listened to a podcast in ages (the last I listened to fully was the BF-Day2 one) and not read vortex for at least a year.

But, hay, at least we can point people towards them if they want their BF but can't (for what ever their circumstance) use Credit/Debit-Card online but would really rather get them legit.

ok - and feel free to say these are stupid questions but i've never used itunes - where would i find these books on there (which category) and can they be played on anything (ie burnt to a cd or put on a mp3 player) or can i only play them on an ipad etc..

i've looked at the aussie itunes and the only doctor who books i can find are ebooks not audios

When you open Itunes there will be a list of stuff on the left hand side. Click on Itunes Store. In the upper right hand corner of the program there is a search box. Search for Doctor Who. The dramas are located in the albums section. Click see all. I would assume that they are in the m4a format but you should be able to convert them to mp3 by changing the itunes>preferences>import CD settings to mp3 then right clicking the file and select 'create mp3 version'. You can burn them to a CD if you want. I went ahead and checked the Aussie Itunes for you and they do seem to be there.

I googled Graceless 2 for no really good reason and was directed at this podcast which would suggest that a third series was on the way and would form a trilogy. That news is fairy early in the podcast if you're reluctant to listen to the whole thing.

For Jago and Litefoot fans, Vortex claims that the series is planned through a seventh series. I've not tried listened to it yet but the CC that inspired it was cautiously interesting.

As the youth would say - My Bad. Forgotten that G3 was mainly in the can. Trying to find the right live podcast where Haigh-Ellory says that that's it for the series as it underperformed.

Though I am now starting to wonder if I imagined I heard it!!

EDIT TO ADD - Perhaps it was one of the Chicago podcast? Damn it, I'm going to have to skull through them all now.

You probably heard the bit I mentioned above - there was a BF podcast from Gallifrey One (I think the podcast went out on 29th Feb). Jason mentions that Graceless wasn't a huge success (in terms of sales) but doesn't suggest it was a failure either and certainly doens't seem to have made a decision to cancel the series. I think he enjoys it and it's probably the closest thing they have to an original series right now...

Yeah, I've listened to all but the most recent podcast or two, and I don't recall anyone saying that G-less was done or canceled.

As for iTunes, I don't see why they would make a big deal about it. They want us to buy them from THEIR site, so that they get all of the profits. But if someone happens to do a search on iTunes, they'll hopefully discover these, and maybe check them out and start buying their audios, eventually finding their way to their site, where they're cheaper. And it's only the early ones they are making available there, since they've already more or less maxed out their profits on those anyways, since they came out an average of 10 years ago, and they already offer them at a discount.

Also, remember that the downloads are significantly cheaper on the BF site for people in the US than they are for those in the UK and Europe. Basically, they're the same price in whichever unit you pay in, dollars, pounds or euros. So, with exchange rates being what they are, Americans pay the least, and Brits pay the most. That's mainly because Americans aren't used to paying for audio drama (or even listening to it, for that matter), and few of us would pay as much as they charge in the UK. They dropped the price for Americans to encourage sales, since they were having toruble getting American customers when they were CD only with large shipping costs.

And for those who simply HAVE to have the CD in a pretty, uniform box on the shelf, they're paying a premium for their collector's mentality. It's not as much of a premium in the UK, since they don't discount the downloads as much there, and they offer free shipping. In fact, the difference between the download and CD for Americans is nearly twice as much.

As for a pattern in the missing ones, I'm not sure baout them all, but I did notice that ALL of Robert Shearman's main range sotries are among the missing ones. Maybe it's an issue of the writers or others not giving them the rights to sell on iTunes, or at least not at the royalties level that the low profit level on iTunes would cause? Or maybe it's because they're better sellers?

That was the one, about between 36-39 minutes. Cheers. As I said later on in the thread I did say that 'Failure' was probably too stong a word to use. But the bottom line is that it's just not sold enough (Jason said in the podcast). so it's certainly been a failure in that context. (G3, IIRC, had actually mostly been recorded by then and was awaiting post-production.)

Ok, so he didn't say in THAT podcast that there would be no more after three - I put my hands up that that's a misremembering from me, but I'm sure I've heard on another one that it'd just be the trilogy. (Perhaps I heard it as speculation on one of Barnaby's video chats?)

If I can find where/when/what I'm think off, I'll post it. It's really starting to bug me now!

I think we're all aware about how BF would rather money be spent :) , but it still seems very self defeating not to say that your stuff is now available on iTunes.

I'd be surprised if Rob Shearman was an obstacle given their relationship. I was thinking earlier that it could be like the when they first started doing downloads they had to renegotiate contracts and it's possible now that they've got to do them again as iTunes is involved and they can't track down certain people to agree to the contract change.

What?
The US currency, is the lowest you have stated there, BF are artificially slanting the prices for the US, to raise sales there, they no longer care about the rest of the world... they have never made an effort, to sell directly to Australia, and most of the deals over the past 5-6 years are the same crap deal over and over...

Popular titles are the ones, which wont be put on sites like iTunes, the poorer sellers are the ones pushed the most.

On the subject of 'hard media' collectors, while keeping 158 monthly titles, 57 companion chronicles and a 120 other assorted titles, in the ether, on the net, or in your hard drive may 'save space' - nothing beats reaching out and putting your hand on you favourite CD/DVD, to put into you system.... and how do you get Tom Baker to sign your copy of 'The Renaissance Man'??? :)

As always - any member here who wants 'hard copies' of stories - just drop me a line, always happy to do them, if your happy to wait a few days to hold them..

:) I'm honestly starting to wonder if I slipped into an alternate reality for a while ...

Oh well. Either way, I'll not miss it if it doesn't return. Neat idea, but one that flopped IMHO as it was just trying to hard NOT to be Who with the violence and sex and, as TV Tropes would say, "Showing Their Work". IMHO they should have used the characters as sort-of Sapphire And Steel like characters with similar story styles. (But on that point I'm a bit biased as I really like the S&S range)

Hay ho.

Best choice for converting .m4b (or really, any format) is dBpoweramp, which is not free (well... goodness, I *am* here). It has plug-ins for every format imaginable and the quality is fantastic!

MP3 Splitter & Joiner (find it on the Green Demon site!) is what I use to combine a bunch of files into a singular file and also what I use to chop out chunks of the audio I don't want. It removes absolutely zero quality, as there is no conversion.

Two of my most favorite programs that I'd be utterly lost without.

My pleasure! There's one on there you describe as not being previously released into the wild - one entitled with a take on the Milton poem - that I expect a lot of folks here would appreciate as a direct download.

I actually got it from this forum anyways ;)

Someone request this one a while back:

ChildrenSeth.part1.rar download (http://www.2shared.com/file/qeFAksDI/ChildrenSethpart1.html)
ChildrenSeth.part2.rar download (http://www.2shared.com/file/beKtANB2/ChildrenSethpart2.html)

Somebody else wanted this one put up again:

ParadoxLost.part2.rar download (http://www.2shared.com/file/fe0FzRo2/ParadoxLostpart2.html)

I vaguely remember Soldiers Of Love was short a couple of discs last time around:

Enjoy :)

BTW Anyone have the wilderness years video releases The Doctors 30 Years Of Time Travel & Soul's Ark?

All of the books are here:
569 PDF Books (http://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2866191/5060900/)

But...
of the most recent books,
NSAX01: TCOTT (Moorc*ck's): I am currently re-doing, as it has whole lines missing in the version I found, and is badly formatted, and has bits removed. My version will have the whole book, including ads and I will cross-check every word with the original to ensure accuracy.

NSAX02: TSSGB (Abn*tt's): This is my version, and gives an idea of how I'll be redoing the previous one

NSAX03: Sh*da (Ad*ms/R*berts): Missing from the above link as it wasn't out at the time (released 6 days ago). When I've finished the one I'm currently working on, I'll get round to this one. Finding an existing digital copy of the text would greatly speed up the process.

So what, if anything, do we think of the new TV companion?

WARNING - ARTICLE CONTAINS POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Emmerdale actress Jenna-Louise Coleman confirmed as new Doctor Who companion (http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/emmerdale-actress-jenna-louise-coleman-confirmed-as-new-doctor-who-companion.html)

My worry ... I've seen her on Emmerdale and the woman (as easy on the eye as she is :) ) just cannot act.

And what's the betting that The Moff is telling porkies about Episode Five?

Never watched that show so i have no idea what she's like, just disappointed that they've gone for a pretty girl again instead of someone with a bit more character in her face. For that matter, why not a male companion - the last two (rory and jack) have sort of been add-ons instead of fully-fledged companions.
I think they need someone a bit older to balance Matt's youth.

Regarding Jenna-Louise Coleman, I've never seen her acting, so can't comment on that, but my first thought, rather oddly, was that she shares the same initials as Justin Lee Collins...!

From the hints that Moffat has given, I suspect that she will be heavily made up with prosthetics - I'm expecting a non-human companion...

Unfortunately I cannot do torrents.....

So what, if anything, do we think of the new TV companion?

I haven't seen anything she has been in, probably what the Moff wanted, a 'blank canvas' and all. I always thought the lass who played Maria in the SJA would have made an interesting companion.

What's the odds on the character being a Timelord (Timelady)? The Moff promising (threatening?) to reveal who the Doctor really is, seems to suggest an adventure home at some stage (especially with the 50th coming up).

Good thing for those of you who don't do torrents. A friend of mine just linked me to this.

http://torrentfreak.com/isps-to-begin-punishing-bittorrent-pirates-this-summer-120315/

ISPs To Begin Punishing BitTorrent Pirates This Summer

Short version -
This July major US Internet service providers will start assisting copyright holders in their fight against online copyright infringement. Major ISPs including Comcast, Verizon and Time Warner Cable will begin fulfilling their obligations under the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year, which will see the providers send out copyright infringement warnings to their millions of customers.

Longer version -

After years of painful negotiations, last June it was revealed that the RIAA, MPAA and some of the United States’ largest Internet service providers had finally come to an agreement on action against unauthorized online sharing of copyright works.

The deal involves content owners, such as recording labels and movie studios, monitoring peer-to-peer networks including BitTorrent for copyright infringements and reporting instances to Internet service providers. The ISPs have agreed to take steps to “educate” allegedly infringing customers through an escalating system of notices, warnings, and other measures.

While it was big news at the time and a very hot issue, since mid-2011 very little has been reported on the progress of the deal. The initial announcement said that ISPs would start implementing the alert system by the end of last year, but this obviously didn’t happen.

However, according to the Center for Copyright Information (CCI), the organization responsible for administering the scheme, all parties are on target to initiate the programs by July 12th this year.

“The members of the coalition are making significant progress at developing a cooperative system to educate consumers and deter copyright theft,” a spokesperson told TorrentFreak.

“CCI is working to implement what is an unprecedented effort and is proceeding on pace with the MOU. We will have announcements in the near future that will include the naming of the [anti-piracy monitoring] partner and details on how CCI and the technology partner will work together.”

According to CNET this positive outlook was confirmed by RIAA CEO Cary Sherman.

During the Association of American Publishers’ annual meeting yesterday, Sherman reportedly announced that ‘most’ of the major ISPs involved in the so-called “graduated response” (such as Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable)

Sherman said that the process hadn’t been easy, with each ISP having to establish their own database to keep track of repeat infringers, the very people whose habits the studios hope to change. So come July, what changes should customers of the major ISPs expect?

Those not engaging in file-sharing on P2P networks will probably notice very little (cyberlocker sharing is not covered), apart from ultimately having to help finance the scheme through their ISP bills.

For those who choose to download and share popular music from EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner, or do likewise with movies owned by Disney, Sony, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Universal and Warner, things will change.

Under a White House and lawmaker supported “Memorandum of Understanding” (MOU) published last July, ISPs will send advisories to alleged copyright-infringing customers.

The first so-called ‘Initial Educational Steps’ will advise customers that copyright infringement is illegal and a breach of the ISP’s terms of service, that legal alternatives are available, and that continuing to infringe may have consequences including account suspension or termination.

The Acknowledgment Step, reached when an Internet subscriber is accused of additional infringements by rights holders, will see ISPs send Copyright Alerts requiring acknowledgment of receipt from account holders along with a pledge to end infringing activity from the account.

Should several attempts at ‘educating’ a subscriber fail, ISPs will be able to send a Mitigation Measure Copyright Alert which again requires customer acknowledgment. It will advise that a customer has received prior warnings and as per the ISPs terms of service, a ‘Mitigation Measure’ will now be applied to the account.

Mitigation measures can include throttling of upload or download speeds, a temporary reduction in service quality to one step above dial-up, redirection to a landing page so that the customer can be further ‘educated’, or even account suspension. No ISP has yet agreed to the latter and no ISP is allowed to disable VOIP, email, security, or TV services.

Makes me sooooo glad I don't use torrents.
I just hope this doesn't bother our file host downloading.

Anywho. Just thought you guys would like to know!

Makes me sooooo glad I don't use torrents.
If I read it the right way, it's only the ISP that makes your life difficult and the next step to the mitigation measures is to change ISP (one that isn't one of the major ISP's) and go on with your life...

Anyone want the eighth doctor adventures seasons 1 & 2? Just found them :-)

The last episode of season 2 (Vengeance of Morbius) is bad. It is supposed to be over an hour long and this version is 49 minutes. If you listen to the end you can easily hear that that's not the end. It seems that at one point someone created a bad version of this with 3 parts (out of 4) and spread it, since I've seen two other downloads of this story which had the same problem.

sorry about that - i tested them to make sure they played but havent listened to them yet - i'm hunting for a good copy now. I found them when i was searching for something else.
does anyone have a good link to it??

Edit: ok i've just listened to the end of this and it sounds fine - are you talking about the bit after the credits? I'd guess that's just a teaser for the next story or something.

looking here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vengeance_of_Morbius) that's how the episode is meant to end

Okay, now that you said that I checked again. It seems that the other episodes do have a segment which makes them longer than 48 minutes, but the segment is a commentary, not part of the story. And Wikipedia claims that this audio is 60 minutes, which is a close match to the length of all the other ones with the commentary added.

So after checking, I think that you're right that the story ends at 49 minutes, but unless this episode has no commentary and all the others did, there's still a (non-story) part missing.

- DWAS Cosmic Fugue (I have Cosmic Fugue 2, need the 1st one)

- BF: Benny Novels and Anthologies (not the NA ones)
- The Scarifyers #6: The Magic Circle [info] (http://www.cosmichobo.com/scarifyers/The-Magic-Circle/)
- Matthew Waterhouse (Adric): Blue Box Boy (abridged autobiography)
- ANY of the Time Hunter series

The Benny books were in post 1920, but none of the links there work any more...

It's a constant battle to keep on top of the latest releases, but I think I'm currently up-to-date, except for the following released last week (hope these aren't too cryptic):
BF: Bereft of Elegance II
BF CC6.09: 1's and 0's
BF: The 2 detectives from 'Weng Chiang', series 4

Lookie what I found online this morning. Says it's from SciFi Now - Issue 65, 2012.

I fangirl squealed when I read 3, though I do NOT like the idea of them being animated (ugh) like the Simpsons. That's just an insult visually speaking. Make it more modern Marvel or DC styled. (Jim Lee. That's all I'm saying.) Do these lovely people some justice in the looks department and make it something everyone (art-wise and not) would wholly visually enjoy. (...then again, if they did somehow manage to make something (else) DW animated and it looked even half as good visually as what the artists of Marvel or DC would make, I think I'd just curl up into a little bitty ball and die of joy.)
I'm still upset how they practally mangled the looks in 'Dreamland'. Yes yes yes I know it's a "style", but it sure as heck wasn't a flattering one for any of the charaters.

Anywho. There's my mini rant for the morning!

Dreamland wasn't a bad story, but couldn't stand the animation style. (What was the other animated one they did with Martha?)

As for The Big Fifty One, I'm trying to not pay too much attention to any real speculation yet. But I'll bet you a pound to a penny that Something will happen that will split the fan base right down the middle for years to come! :)

What I'd love to see is some well chosen, and very well CGI crafted, interaction of Matt Smith with original footage from the eras. Sort of a Doctor Who version of DS9:Trials And Tribbulations.

I agree Nobber, an 11 Doctors (with CGI for the 'missing' ones) would be awesome!

The 'one with Martha' was The Infinite Quest. All the animated Doctor episodes, were:
2001: Death Comes to Time (awful quality and a tiny 'screen')
2002: Real Time
2003: Scream of the Shalka (I loved Richard E Grant as Doctor Who!)
2003: Shada (a remake of the 4th Doctor story, with the 8th Doctor)
2007: The Infinite Quest (Anthony Head playing the bad guy)
2009: Dreamland

Nobber, I'll second that. The story was, all in itself, not a bad one. But that animation style...ugh. I mean, really.

As for the other story, The Infinite Quest. (Seriously liked this style better than the above mentioned one. The movements leaved a lot to be desired, but in terms of appearance, this one is sooooo much better.)

And, was I the only one to look at Dreamland and think the style looks a tad bit much like the Dire Straits - Money For Nothing music video? (not carbon copy, but.. all those sharp angles for the characters....)

As for The Big Fifty One, I'm trying to not pay too much attention to any real speculation yet. But I'll bet you a pound to a penny that Something will happen that will split the fan base right down the middle for years to come! :)

I agree Nobber, an 11 Doctors (with CGI for the 'missing' ones) would be awesome!
Plus it could totally work in the other Doctors (though having to use replacement voice actors for them). I mean, as much as I adore the live action guys side by side, so much time has passed, the older ones have changed and aren't exactally thin or spry any more, really, animated or cg animated would be the best idea.

I agree that Scream of the Shalka was a good one. I initially downloaded and started watching with a mindset of 'ugh, great, looks like this is probably gonna suck but since I went to the trouble of dling it, I may as well give it a chance and just watch it.' By the end of it, I found myself really liking the Shalka Doctor and wishing there was a bit more! (even if the animators used WAY too much racoon eyeshadow on the guys. -_-U No one can make me believe otherwise! That's racoon eyeshadow!)

Nobber
03-22-2012, 03:29 PM
"The Infinite Quest". Yes! That was the one I couldn't remember.

But definitely no CGI recreations of actors with replacement voice actors. For me it's this

or nothing. I'm sure it's not beyond the whit of man these days to either properly recolour the early stuff as required, or have some decent story excuse why he's suddenly in B&W - Like the companion(s) could be watching him on The Space Time Visualizer - which could be great as they could do cut-a-away shots to the the watching Companion(s) to use old Doctor dialogue, too, that doesn't fit the scene they've re-done.

EDIT TO ADD - Shalka is very underrated and far more deserving of fan love. (But, hmm, yeah, very heavy on the 'make-up'!)

I can forgive the so-so animation of Death Comes To Time and Real Time for their era and trying to keep the overhead of the Flash animation down.

EDIT TO FURTHER ADD - The animation style of Dreamland made me think they were trying to do CGI 'Puppets' as you could quite easily imagine them with strings coming off them. It was a very odd choice. Personally I wish they'd go down the 'realistic' style we saw in the CG version of Starship Troopers and the new Captain Scarlet. Especially these days where that style is far easier and quicker to animate and render.

50th Anniversary appearances. What's my bet?

At 5000-to-1: John Barrowman will not be invited, and will stage his own "Who porn" tribute.

At 2500-to-1: The Doctor will encounter several versions of the starship USS Enterprise and mistakenly think that the Captain is regenerating.
Miss the first encounter? Doctor Who - Trek Through Time - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6918807B99DAFA28)

At 1500-to-1: David Tennant will again play the part of the Doctor's "gorgeous time traveling assistant."
Missed that the first time? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4dUQgIaXGg

Unknown odds: Paul McGann & the Eighth Doctor will be again be ignored.

Unknown odds: What's the over/under for Moffat misleading the fans? 5 times? 10 times? 25?

Positive expectations:
1). At least one of my favorite companions will be ignored.
2). The BBC will omit any reference to all 3rd party spin-offs.
3). The BBC budget will claim outrageous expenses for the use of film archive material.
4). Travel to exotic locations will be required for the showrunner.

Miss the first encounter? Doctor Who - Trek Through Time - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6918807B99DAFA28)

Holy cow, there's some good editing in there. (Makes note to watch entire thing later)

I know what I would do were I show-runner now. I'd re-jig the 8th/Charley arc for 11th+Charley and have a live action version Neverland/Zagreus/Scherzo. The living Doctors and Companions wouldn't have to worry about not looking the same any-more as they'd not be playing The Doctor/Companions as such. Departed Doctors could appear as holograms much like Pertwee's voice ghost but actually be able to hear what they're saying this time!

Who would replace The Brig, though? I think that role of The Tardis becoming 'human' to guide Charley back to The Doctor would really have to go to William Russell.

(And Scherzo would be really cheap to film after the other two - just two actors on a white set with a bit of CGI now and then!)

Burneggroll, went to the David Tennant link and it said it gave a 'malformed url'. Try this one.
Doctor Who Spoof (David Tennant in drag) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4dUQgIaXGg)

What I find so funny about that is, well, from the comments.

Damn. David has better legs than me...
EroStrom

Will someone explain to me why David looks better than me in a dress?
RiverPond17

Great now I have the song "Hot Legs" by Rod Stewart stuck in my head.
soldiergirl84

Wow...that awkward moment when you see David Tennant in drag and all you can say is, "He really *does* have nice legs..."
RaNdOmNeSs0121

Oh, my brain.
Murrriannochko

Half Scary, Half Funny that David in drag actually looks DARN good as a woman. O_oU (He's better in the Davina video.)
And, why, indeed, does that man have better legs than a lot of women!?!?

Not yet. Until I get time to update mine, I'd recommend checking out Doctor Who - The Complete Adventures - introduction (http://www.eyespider.freeserve.co.uk/drwho/compleat.html) which I use as a source.

They tend to update faster than http://www.drwhoguide.com/who.htm, even though they make odd assupmtions about where to place things, don't explain their reasoning, and include items that I wouldn't necessarity do.

In the meantime, here's another one:

That's why I like yours.....you take the time to figure out the correct placement......
That is something I really appreciate!

Well, to be honest, as I say in my chronology:

The chronological placement of these stories is derived from information contained in the following sources:
I, Who, Volumes 1 through 3, by Lars Pearson, from Mad Norwegian Press
Ahistory, 2nd Edition, by Lance Parkin, from Mad Norwegian Press
The Doctor Who Reference Guide: Doctor Who Reference Guide (http://www.drwhoguide.com/who.htm)
Doctor Who: The Complete Adventures: Doctor Who - The Complete Adventures - introduction (http://www.eyespider.freeserve.co.uk/drwho/compleat.html)
Doctor Who Collector’s Wiki: User:Time Lord Enthusiast/Iris Wildthyme's Timeline - Doctor Who Collectors Wiki - Books, DVDs, CDs (http://doctor-who-collectors.wikia.com/wiki/User:Time_Lord_Enthusiast/Iris_Wildthyme's_Timeline)
Just plain guesswork and arbitrary decisions
This chronology is not to be interpreted as authoritative, and is subject to revision upon discovery of new information. In any event, the exact placement of a certain story between the gaps of the televised episodes is often irrelevant, as long as, for example, a 2nd Doctor, Jamie & Zoe short story lacking any references to other stories is placed after The Wheel in Space but before The War Games. Further, it is assumed that an ongoing series of stories (i.e., the 7th Doctor New Adventures novels, the Big Finish Eight Doctor Adventures audios or the 11th Doctor & Amy’s “Child of Time” comics arc in Doctor Who Magazine) are more likely to be clustered tightly together with few (if any) gaps in between filled by other contemporary media than not. However, later authors can (and often do) slot new stories into those gaps with impunity.

Most of the time, I figure that that it makes more sense to read the novels as a chunk, listen to the audios as another chunk, and the comics as yet another chunk, and worry about how to intermix them between the TV episodes on a case-by-case basis if necessary. Even then, there often isn't a lot to go on besides which TARDIS crew is involved.
Examples:

In the audio The Jade Pyramid, Amy says she's never been to Japan before. Ergo, the comic The Golden Ones (set in modern Tokyo) must occur afterwards. Now, since Rory is not mentioned in either story, both must occur either before he joins the TARDIS in The Vampires of Venice, or after he is erased from history in In Cold Blood. It doesn't really matter to the plot of either story which of those two placements you choose, as long as you fit them in before The Pandorica Opens and Rory is restored to existence.

Since in the novel Vampire Science, the 8th Doctor says that he travelled for three years between dropping Sam off on Earth and picking her up again a few hours later from her P.O.V, and he mentions comics-derived companion Izzy in the novel The Gallifrey Chronicles, then the 8th Doctor novels must happen after the comics, which occur in that 3-year gap. In the audio The Zygon Who Fell to Earth, the 8th Doctor mentions the events of the novel The Bodysnatchers. Thus, it's safe to assume that the order of the 8th Doctor's adventures in broad strokes goes TV Movie -> comics -> novels -> audios. What happens between the TV movie and Rose is still really conjecture, as is what happens between Survival and the TV Movie; and Rassilon only knows what exactly happens between Trial of a Time Lord: The Ultimate Foe and Time and The Rani.

Wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey and all that.

Meanwhile, the Hunt continues.

True. As I've said before, though, I don't fiddle with my chronology out of any obsessive need to account for every picosecond of the Doctor's 900-odd years. It's done more to get some rough idea of how to approach all the massive quantities of Expanded Whoniverse material out there in such a manner as to avoid too much head-scratching and thinking: "All right, who are these characters, what events are they talking about, and why are they acting like I should already know?"

To be truthful, I haven't actually read/listened to everything in the chronlogy yet myself. So far, I've only had time to read the following:
All Virgin Missing Adventures novels (except Cold Fusion, which I will read when I get to where it falls from the 7th Doctor's POV in the New Adventures novels)
All BBC Past Doctor Adventures novels (except Wolfsbane, which I will read when I get to where it falls in the 8th Doctor's POV in the Eighth Doctor Adventures novels)
All Telos Novellas starring Doctors 1 through 7 (except Companion Piece, which I will read after Lungbarrow)
Virgin New Adventures novels from Timewyrm: Genesis through Parasite (I expect to finish Warlock and start Set Piece sometime in the next 24 hours)
Virgin Decalog anthologies 1 and 3
All DWM comics from The Iron Legion through Nemesis of the Daleks, from Train-Flight through Party Animals, and from End Game through Chains of Olympus
The Only Good Dalek graphic novel
All IDW comics
All Torchwood Magazine comics
Both issues of the Image Faction Paradox comic

And I've found time to listen to even less:
Big Finish monthlies #1 through 13, 15, 26, 34, 44 & 66
Big Finish Companion Chronicles #4.08, 5.02, 5.03 & 5.06
All Big Finish free promo CDs in DWM
BBC/AudoGo audiobooks The Runaway Train, The Ring of Steel and The Jade Pyramid
BBC/AudioGo SJA audiobooks The White Wolf and The Shadow People
BBC Radio episodes The Pescatons, Slipback, The Paradise of Death, The Ghosts of N-Space, and Torchwood: The Lost Files 2 - SubMission
BBC/AudioGo Hornet's Nest, Demon Quest, and Serpent Crest quintologies
BBV Audios Zygons: Homeland, Sontarans: Silent Warriors, and Cybergeddon

So I fully expect that there are vast icebergs of contradiction and continuty issues lurking out there, ready to rend my little chronology assunder when I finally get around to reading/listening to them.

The comics are actually worth reading - I've really enjoyed them. In May, there will be a Star Trek: TNG/Doctor Who crossover comic called Assimilation2 (Cover Images: #1 (), #2 ()), which sees the 11th Doctor teaming up with Jean-Luc Picard to deal with the unholy alliance between the Borg and the Cybermen. I'm really looking forward to that one!

As for the books, I've read ALL of the New Series Adventures books, and there isn't one that I didn't enjoy. Some of the Virgin New Adventures books I found quite heavy going, but most of them were very enjoyable. I still haven't read any of the 8th Doctor Adventures books - just not got round to them yet...

If there are any generous souls out there who might be able to help I'd really love to get hold of a couple of the subscriber only BF stories, I can't do torrents unfortunately.

I'd love to hear a couple that start with Return...

Return to the W....(place where the 1st doctor met some giant ants and butterflies, and a caterpillar stuck its head in a wall!) and,
Return of the K....(big crystal-ly monsters, with spinning heads who like setting exams and have a name that sounds like the hard bread chunks that you put in salad!)

Much obliged if anyone can help, no worries if its too much bother :)

Nah. Can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but the comics just don't appeal to me. And I can't make my mind up on that cross over ... part of me wants to read it, part of me thinks it's a stupid idea. I'd rather see the semi-planned, semi-joked Blakes 7 cross-over. I'll probably flick through them if I happen to spot them on the shelf, but I doubt I'll go out of my way to look for them.

Hey all,

I've been away a bit, real life catching up on me and all that, I'm going on holiday for the next two weeks so just wanna say a quick thanks for all the previous uploads. Anything I can upload let me know and it'll be here in around 2 weeks time ;)

I know what I would do were I show-runner now. I'd re-jig the 8th/Charley arc for 11th+Charley and have a live action version Neverland/Zagreus/Scherzo. (And Scherzo would be really cheap to film after the other two - just two actors on a white set with a bit of CGI now and then!)

One thing that's always bugged me about the TARDIS taking The Brig's shape though is that she is supposed to be female. Granted, she's a living space-time machine, so I guess she can conjure up anything, but still, I thought it sounded odd. Or perhaps that is just me.

But I would love to see this on screen. I desperately want an on-screen Charley episode :)
