Thank you, and I hope you won't think me anything rude, but I would have to pass. I don't own an iPod (had one, it was rubbish); I have a SANSA Clip Zip, and the individual tracks are easier to restart with, as opposed to one giant file. When I have some extra money, I can always just buy it instead. :)

EXCELLENT NEWS, INDEED!! Glad to see Titan is willing do other than stuff than just NuWho (which from this point I shall refer to as NotWho, b/c it just doesn't feel like the same show at all anymore). The first issue of the 8th Medic mini wasn't bad, either; hoping GM will be asked to do more my fav Medic.

Oh, a question of sorts.. I was wondering if anyone has, or has seen online, larger cover art for LC's Medic Subscriber Only Tale, "Teh T0y"?

Maybe they shoulda tried gettting a great artist on ONE book instead of 6 simultaneous lackluster titles.

So, books 2&3 of the glamchron were released a few weeks ago, and have been made easily available through Awdabull. Book 1 had been delayed till November 5th. I just checked glambook1:RB on awdablull. Says, It's not available for sale in my country. Ugh. Also, there are also reports that Book1:RB is actually book2. And that the second book (BB read by ProfBern) should actually be read first. DOUBLE UGH. At least this year's narrator choices are super stellar.

Glad someone knows who I'm talking about. I love that game series, even if Layton does lay the whole "A true gentleman" thing on a bit too thickly at times. But given what's revealed about him in "Unwound Future" (or "Lost Future", if you're in Europe), I suspect it's a coping mechanism of some kind.

I loved Lost Future (as it was known here in Australia too) - a very moving conclusion. I had to have some quiet time to myself when that finished! I've only just started Last Spectre, as well as a little of Miracle Mask. I've been too busy and not feeling the best. I haven't had the chance to do much in the way of leisure lately.

All I can say with some of the answers of the Layton games is thank God there's an internet - even after I've spent my hint coins I'm still sometimes too dimwitted to work out the answer! I do love a good puzzle though.

Damn, now I'll go to bed with Luke and Layton's voices in my head, along with that incredibly incessant Layton music!

As a fan of both series, I'd have to say it's actually pretty good. But honestly, I would advise you to at least play the original Phoenix Wright trilogy (which you can get on the 3DS eShop) before tackling it. That way, you're familiar with Phoenix and Maya's personalities a bit more.

Uardiansgay of the Alaxygay. Aan Dabnett. Is that clear enough for you?

the way you worded it was like bendis is valentino or abnett had wrote another book and it was adapted --you went 2-3 stats that you needed to ... but the fact that we had to guess the movie then the series and then the writer... was 3 trips down the rabbit hold that only need one...

"there was an audio adaptation froom Dan abnett featuring chafracters from the Defenders of the Cosmos movie last year" see simple

Moderator Warning I appreciate your concern and desire to avoid any potential flame wars.
But this is a "download thread" only by dint of it containing downloads. Practically it is a thread of discussion between people who all enjoy the DW audio dramas. That is the thing that brings us here, but it is not necessary to so strictly prescribe what we do here as long as we also do what the categorisation entails, that is share downloads. We discuss all the things here.

We are friendly people on the whole, who generally only take issue when it appears our generosity is taken for granted.

Please don't turn this into a cold and unfriendly thread with pre-emptive proscriptions on our conversation.

On the whole, it went down pretty well here. Good story, but a definite hope that if LC do more with The Sontaran's joint adventures with J&L they'll be able to dial back the character just a little bit.

I loved it! I have a strong passion for the two old gits anyway, and seem to be one of the minority that actually likes the potato head. When it comes to The Spud, I think it's more that the joke of the character tends to be telegraphed and too obvious.

Assuming LC go forward with him on audio I've more faith in them than the current TV writing team to be able to get the 'timing' down properly like they did with the Dad's Army riff of monthly #146

OH!

What if the Danny Dust who loves her so much that it has been building up in the corner of her eyes, so that the dream dust virus that Clara OBVIOUSLY got infected with will instead of building a new sleep dream dust monster, it reconstitutes Danny from Danny Dust... At the Expense of Clara? Danny the Sandman finishes Eating Clara before he's fully aware that he's turned the gnome he's in love with into farts, realizes what he's done and throws himself in front of another car.

There is too much negativity around New Medic generally, but this episode warranted criticism in my books. Nothing against MG as a writer, he's had some great eps. But he drew a blank with this one.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me why there were no opening credits? Was its absence part of the episode, or did my TV station decide to cut them off in favour of the news?

My view of this past weeks stuff;
- Fair Warning, if you do not like critique, don't look! -

Unique
This team didn't work for me at all on audio. 0sgewd was so blas that I couldn't even tell it was her unless someone stated her name (which works visually but man does it sound dumb after its spoken for the thirtieth time in a single audio episode). I looooove Aut0ns and could listen to stories about them all night, but not when they are fighting a team that has everything and still manages to bungle along for four episodes..... I'm just quitting here! I didn't like it much.

This weeks episode
I fell asleep watching what I had high hopes of being a terrifying episode. On my attempt to rewatch, I fell asleep again. This episode did not work at all. I will say this; my 6 and 9 year old were similarly not-spooked by this. I think the "Found Footage" premise doesn't really work when you constantly switch between that style and multiple other styles. The writing may have been there but the ultimate result missed its mark.

So glad everyone here seems to agree with my initial assessment. My least favorite ep since 1963.

Even PC seemed to agree, based on the medic's exit.

What ep from '63 disappointed you?

Actually, I thought the show started with an absolutely brilliant first episode, followed by three pretty crap episodes. That was disappointing for me!

So, I'm back listening to LC's early monthlies. I'm almost up to Extra Bits, which was one of the first I ever heard. I've followed the 8th Medic mostly, so I think before I get to the one that starts with a Zed (#50), I should go back and listen to at least the best ones from the others.

The ones I haven't heard yet are numbers 20-24, 26, 27, and then 35-50. What ones in there are must hears, and which ones aren't really worth it?

To be fair, I've enjoyed almost every one I've heard so far, except for a couple of the 5th Medic's. As much as I love PD, those just weren't up to par with the others. I'll probably follow 6 and Ev up to #50, but I do want to know what other ones are the best.

What ones in there are must hears, and which ones aren't really worth it?I know what you mean, the first 50 are rather varied in quality.

In my opinion, the "must hears" are: #35, #40, and #48, and if you're up for a bit of comedy, try #39 and certainly don't miss #43!

The less compelling ones are #26, #41, #42, and #50 (although if you're following the Eighth Medic, you'll still want to listen to #50 as it involves some pretty important developments for that character).

Of course, your mileage may vary. Heck, I like #36 but not #34, which I gather is the opposite of most people's preferences. It really comes down to personal taste.

Edit: Incidentally, if you're wondering which main range releases are important for eight's story arc, try the description in this post from a blog I follow. RWQ

And, apparently, PD stated that he'd never do one of that authors scripts again.

#48 is possibly my fav audio in the range (so far that I've heard- I'm very behind). It really turned me around on the whole LC range as prior to that I only tried a few random samplings based only on the covers/synopsis and I wasn't all that impressed. Then I joined a local medic Fan Club and they recommended several titles which I tried starting this this one and it showed me just how good the audios can be. Actually I love that whole trilogy actually #47-49 but 48 is the standout and 47 comes a close second for me purely for such a great cliffhanger.

I also liked the experimental but very desperate high stakes feel of #44- I always thought the 5th Medic works best when he's desperate.

Others I recall I liked the most from the early range are: #40, #38, #34, #30, #29, #27, #14, #13, #5 and #3.

my view on the early LC

5th Medic : ( he had 13 solo efforts and the opening multi Doctor Story)
1 - Siren part 2 a pretty standard story --it is clear the actor is settling into audio and the sounds design is learning
2 - a nice Mark Gatiss effort and a Tardybox team that isn't used much
4 the princess debuts on audio and starts a nice run with her early stories
8 - Ms Brown and the really bad return of the Martians --Avoid!!!!
10 another great story with the princess another moody piece
15 a nice effort with the pepperpots but really confusing in a pair o docks sort of way...
20 odd story with bad accents --a shame because this seemed to have a nice plot in there somewhere....
24 and the pharaoh arrives my view on her stories were that the historicals worked better with this trio
26 very well done prequel to TrakenKeeper and this seems to ties up plot points from the previous stories and her collapse on TVKinda [nice mini arc]
34 possibly one of the best cyber stories ever [add in Jenna from Bloke's and this was amazing] (to be fair LC was hitting alm ost every story at this point out of the park with very few bad ones and when they were bad they were really really bad]
38 another historical with miss brown and the Pharoah --this one was really well done....and Ms Brown gets to plays the trope of dual roles in this one
this one was so well done that the next one......
41 ugggggg how many ways can i hate this story another one to avoid
44 Beauty....highly experimental.... and worth listening to a few times --it pays off
47 Omega shoehorned into season 20 -- i'm just sort of meh about this one

I'd like to add my two pennyworth to this subject. My earlist memory of watch the series was hiding behind the sofa during the mythmakers... [dont ask me why cos I was about 5 at the time so that will date me somewhat!]
I've always liked Mr Ratish's work, but this week's epidode, if it was a total "experiment" as some claim, was total S**te. I think that its about time that the now "look at us, we're brilliant" comfortable production crew were given a shake up. Like Rizzle T Waveis, Mr. Muppet is now suffering from overload. But, like Rizzle he can't let go. I think that if this continues, we will enter another Jean Nottern Weriner period...
PC has grown on me after the first series, but he can only work with good, fresh scripts.
Sorry if this offends, but at the rate things are going, I'll leave the visuals and just await new LC stuff.

I will now brutally critique last weeks episode in bulletpoints, as I have managed to successfully watch it from beginning to end;

- It strives to look like "Found Footage" according to the publicity, but it never looks like that. It is presented in almost moronically clear High Definition. The whole effect falls to pieces when they digitally break up the video and further rolls around on the ground begging to be mercy killed when it pops out of it and just has the characters being shot as normal.

- There are the makings of a pretty good scary story if you take all the plot out and just look at the monster and stick it into a new tale altogether.

- The ending zinger is good, its great in fact. The problem with getting to that point is that you should have - until that point - been totally on the side of the villain -- and then he reveals that he set the whole thing up. By putting The Medic into the central role it destroyed any impact the reveal at the end could have had. Maybe this was the main actors ego forcing plot changes to focus on them, maybe it was the writer or directors choice to focus on them. Either way, it killed the episode faster than the appearance of the Dinosaurs in 'Invasion of them what I just Named' does.

I haven't watched the latest episode yet, but my feelings are the same. I'm not as enthusiastic as I used to be when it comes to TV Medic. I was more excited when the recent Medic 8 box set came out than I was with the return of TV Medic this year. No, I'm not knocking anyone on the production staff, but the Medic seemed to work best when it rotated staff members every few years. Keeps things fresh.

That was also the problem I had with later Trek shows like VOY or ENT. They needed to rotate in new writers and producers. ENT did that in its fourth season, but it was already too late (though the guy who took over did go down swinging, credit for that).

okay heading back the the first 50

6th Medic this time [13 stories and 2 multi doctor stories]

1 - Sirens 3 pretty decent but this wasn't the strongest episode in the set ; that went to the 5th medic... this was ok and ol sixie seems to not be at ease yet

3 Miss Brown and a story that relies on the audio format ..a decent effort
6 Here is where Evelyn is introduced and a pretty decent story that is a historical ...get start to an excelent companion
9 The Brig; Evelyn and a story that seem to have been drop out of the PhilHinch era.. and The Brig is in fine form.
11 sixie;Evelyn ;pepperpots and Romana ... an okay story and excellent performances from all
14 All Hail the Big Talking Bird [nuff said] one of the best stories from this era
22 silurians darwin... and an adult myrka.... another great story
23 the mini arc with The forge starts here .... [almost of sixies stories involved Evelyn at this point]
27 a really fun story that fir perfectly in the era it is supped to be from...
really engaging fun
34 with the verbosity that was ol sixie this was a great story that again relies on the audio format.... miss brown was on fine form as well
37 evelyn and sixie in a grand space opera...
40 another eveyln story this time with a divergent future timeline with pepperpots...
43 another great story and in musical format.....
45 a 2 part sixie/evelyn story and continuing the forge plotline
48 and the creator of the pepperpots has a solo tale.... this was almost perfect.

the first 50
7th Medic -- [11 stories and 2 multi doctor tales]

1- Sirens 1 and 4 thhis is pretty much a 7th medic story with the other guest starring... and the story doesn't quite hold up but then it was the first one
5 ms Servalan guests a tale that seems right out of the NAs nice effort
7 meets the pepperpots.....never quite like this one but it was LS first Dalek story
12 the red head joins LC with a historical that does her justice
13 the NAs are fully represented with Bernice joining LC --this one was really good
21 the Master [skin flesh form] appears for the first time again another good tale
25 mister ten-inch joins LC in a story about a prsion that set up plots for year to come [Klien appears here for the first time and Ace starts a character arc]
36 this is one of those love it or hate it types of stories set on Ibiza and using the dance scene setting and trance music....
39 this story was set right out of the season 23 and fits right in complete with the 7ths medics misquotes and a wonderful pastiche on deep space 9 eurovisionand Space 1999]
42 another NAs adventure setting with Benny and Ace very dark stuff
45 second half of the forge story that set up later 7th medic plots
46 this was the experimental story that didn't quite work for me... as the episodes could be listen to in either sequence
49 and the Villain piece that focuses on the Master... i just found it plodding along and kept looking to see when it would end

for the most part the 7th medic seems the least successful on audio but then didn't have really good stories or the worst ones either....

So, it looks like I should skip 20, 41 and 46. Based on what everyone's said, all the others at least a modicum of worth. Not a bad ratio, then. :)

What about after #50? Is there anything that really isn't worth listening to, or should I just go straight through?

And at what point should I start the 8th medic's separate series? After Charlie is done with him?

I honestly liked #20. It was almost like a inversion of "Little Red Riding Hood" in some places. Granted, I'm probably a bit biased, since Marc Platt wrote it and I'm a big fan of his stories. #41 you should definitely avoid. It's probably the only Doctor Who story in any medium I actively loathe. As for #46, I actually liked the open-ended experimental nature of it. But I also realize it's not completely to one's taste. Still a cleverly written Jonathan Morris story, nevertheless.

And at what point should I start the 8th medic's separate series? After Charlie is done with him?
Yeah, that would be best, especially since the Black Orbs saga takes place almost immediately after the finale of it's 4th season.

What about after #50? Is there anything that really isn't worth listening to, or should I just go straight through?

And at what point should I start the 8th medic's separate series? After Charlie is done with him?

The 'Divertgent Arc' (51 to 64) is a bit of an odd one (but I'll not spoil it too much) as they try to change some of the fundamentals without actually changing how DW stories really work (different times and places) and whilst some of the individual stories are perfectly fine, the over-all story doesn't quite land properly, and it's hobbled by having to be wrapped up in a hurry as it coincided with the revival in '05 and Cardiff wanted LC to keep things more 'traditional'.

72-103 are more regular stories with, again, some standouts like 77

So ... on the whole I would say "Yes, stay with 8th until Charley leaves"

Then, IMHO, give yourself a bit of a breather with the Shelly stories (153-156) before heading off into the separate range.

I found #78 absolute rubbish. It was really a dreadfully-written piece that not even Sixie could save.
Other than that there are some that aren't pleasant, and some that drag a bit, but that's the only one I'd avoid. Or listen to as an example of how not to do it ;)

And at what point should I start the 8th medic's separate series? After Charlie is done with him?Well, not necessarily.

After Charlie finishes with Eight in #103 and starts traveling with Six, there are two more monthlies starring Eight and the writer (set between The Movie and #16) plus a few mostly-irrelevant bits and bobs. And that's more or less the end of PMG's appearance in the monthlies. But given where the EDAs start, you could even skip the Charlie storyline altogether and it would still make sense.

So it's up to you. If you start to tire of Charlie in Eighth's stories after #50, don't feel you have to keep listening for the sake of continuity. If you want to get straight into the "good stuff" of the EDAs, don't bother waiting.

However, importantly, the Black Orbs/Destruction Group sets should be listened to in order, and with prior knowledge of the EDAs, especially Series 4.

Hope this helped :)

Although I would hasten to add, a couple of the Divergent arc stories are crackers even in isolation from the context (especially in isolation? maybe. the arc wasn't super successful).

Thank you all for the input, suggestions -- and the shares!.

I've enjoyed Charlie from the get-go, so I'll probably go ahead and stick with her adventures at least until she leaves Eight, then go on with Mary, then the separate range and what follows. With bits and bobs of the rest as I feel like it. Umbrella and 80's girl have always been one of my favorite pairings, and I've enjoyed what I've heard of 7-1 + Eve, so there's plenty to break up the "monotony" of 8's stories if I want a change of pace, along with all the spin-offs, specials, and sets, too.

Like I said before, Five is one of my favorites, as one of the three I remember growing up with, but apart from Extra Bits, his are the only tales I've been disappointed with so far. Maybe I'll enjoy the ones with the Pharaoh more, I hope so. I'm also looking forward to #76, because the author is quite good.

Oh dear God! I just tried listening to the new trailer for LC's 'The Cellmate'. I wanted to have high hopes (even if ol' Brick Niggs was at the helm!), but those hopes were dispelled after listening. I know it sounds negative on my part, but after re-watching the first two eps of the old series (wanted to show them to my wife, who generally hates a lot of the old shows I grew up with; she was actually into it! Yaaay!), I feel the trailer pales horribly in comparison. Anyone else have any thoughts to share on it?

^^ the TV version was so iconic and so visual, using that special place in Gwynedd, that audio only is always going to be second best no matter how great the actors and sound effects.

Would someone able to tell me about TimeTunnel media I found on bandcamp?
It has a couple medic 2 missing stories
Are they worth grabbing and do they fit into the regular series?

I'd imagine that in 20 years or so they'll be able to add realistic CGI to all of the LC audioplays.

So, I sat down and finally watched my DVD of the 1st Medic ep, "The Pepperpot Invasion of Errf" (working against depression is a bitch! Some days even waking up feels like a challenge!). It as good, you know? I thought the fast-moving "love" 'tween Susie and DC was a bit much, but not horrible (still a better way to go than the way Moff sends 'em off!). It could have used a bit of scene trimming, perhaps one less episode, but overall, it was a good, fun Medic story. I'd watch again before I'd watch any of the NotHoo episodes!

Oh, a glitch that I've not seen anyone point out.. Within the first 10 mins. or less of the Ep1, the timeship is seen in the background, while the Medic and companions are talking. It's the scene under the bridge, just prior to its collapse. The timeship is seen from a three-qtr angle. And on the side, the windows of the not-door side appear to have begun to fall in, but no one fixed it. Ah well. Not liked it ruined the story or anything. :)

and the last of the first 50

8th Medic [11 stories]
16 The Edwardian adventuress meets 8 -- and as in most of the early audios this relies on the audio format ..but talk about hitting the ground running
17 not so enthused about this one... i listen to it and forget about it right after
and so-so cyber story
18 nice period piece of some nature... the sounds scape is great and the characters are well done
19 UGGGGGGGG I truly hate this one.. Hellfire club; bad american accents; and the Brigadeer and 8 losing his memory yet again. Avoid or listen for the car creash nature of the bad accents
28 More bad accents... but this is a so so story only bettered by the strength of the leads
29 this was amazing in every way...-- won't spoil it just listen.
30 another ripping tale -- great execution
31 moody and dark and again made better by the strength of the leads
32 a nice period piece with the pepperpots and again the leads carry this thing better that it could have been
33 peter pan world.... guest starring time lady president.... very dense and convoluted story that attempted to tie up the paradox plot... it's worth a listen
50 a non mutli doctor multi doctor companion story....starring everyone in the LD stable at that time and including Polls and the 3rd medic..losts of in jokes and who references ... the story is bloated and falls flat... however it set up 2 things -- the Homeworld series.... and the Divergent arc in the second 50

You can use the "reputation button" instead of the like.
It's in the bottom left hand corner of each post and looks vaguely like a "thumbs up" - it changes to a star when you hover your mouse over it.
But as it will no doubt tell you at some point, you have to give reputation to a few other users before you can give it to the same person again.

Is anyone else getting a corrupt part 1 track 4 on the Dark Whole MP3 when extracting?

So, it looks like I should skip 20, 41 and 46. Based on what everyone's said, all the others at least a modicum of worth. Not a bad ratio, then. :)

What about after #50? Is there anything that really isn't worth listening to, or should I just go straight through?

And at what point should I start the 8th medic's separate series? After Charlie is done with him?

Skip nothing.

The bad ones make you appreciate how good the good ones are.

If you don't listen to the bad ones, you're going to think that the less good good ones are bad.

And how is that in your best interest?

I really like #20
#41 is unpleasant - I'd generally say skip nothing, but if you were desperate to skip one in the entire range I'd choose this one
And #46 is an interesting oddity. And it is interesting. It plays with the structure of the audios. It's not one of my favourites but I certainly don't regret buying it.

I redownloaded the file to check. Like versatile posted, part 4 should play normally. The AB version plays fine.

Still haven't managed to find a cuesheet for LC #34. If anyone's got it in separate tracks could they please pm me a link.

I agree completely.....apart from adding that many people are often wrong about what the good or bad ones are....some of the audios and TV eps that people think are sh!t are brilliant and some that they love I think are boring.
Like time, it's all relative.

Having grown up through the 4th medic era, I always thought that these (when they eventually arrived) would be my favourite shows. Not a bit. What I've found across the 200+ shows is that every medic has a high and a low. My biggest surprises were from those medics that I really didn't like on TV (5, 6 & 7) which were all excellent on audio.

I do think that the standard of written drama has dropped quite a bit since the early years, but of course there have been a few gems amongst them

As ever, YMMV, so make sure you hear them all :)

I'd watch again before I'd watch any of the NotHoo episodes! Most of the story was a pretty average post invasion story of the romp-around-the-monsters-and-back-in-time-for-tea kind. but for me, it earned its good reputation because of the final speech by the Medic. Now I think about it, that reminds me of a certain other story that aired recently...

monthly medics 51-100

5th medic [11 stories]

56 the pharoah and ms brown and a sdtory about where broken timeline go to die .. very odd but well done
59 contuning on with that team and the continued Erimem subplot nice mystical historical
66 this is an off one as the bulk of the action is written much like a greek chorus describing what is happening ...notable for the inclusion of Will Russell in his LC debut the companion is Trakenprincess
69 the Erimem Brown team [the science fiction doesn't suit this trio ] as this seemed to be a so-so story but notable for the inclusion of Ms Watling in her LC debut
71 another historical featuring the ErimemBrown team.. much better than the last audio this one focusing on the Nicean Council and a big Erimem story
76 a Vislor story...alone with the 5th medic this one i wasn't impressed with in a bad way or good way... but it was nice to hear another audio by Strickson
81 another historical for the BrownErimem team and another success ..this story is much fun and in a small part is the first instance of NuWho in the audios... as the 9th medic is part of the plot... and the old Target books as well as the 4th medic is recast with a dead ringer.
87 The mouth on legs appears in the fist of a cyber trilogy; and also advance The Forge cross medic subplot.. notable of course for the aussie appearance
91 the first time that LC did the 4 single episode formats "seasons" and one takes place during the regeneration scene ...another he meet up with Newton
95 another fortmat shift a 3 episode story with miss brown and then a 1 episode story the second story continues an arc that sorta was supposed to be a big new audio baddie but really just fell flat in the end... but the individual episode is fun and diverting.
99 another historical from the BrownErimem grouping very dark and violent -- and Vlad the Ipaler/ Dracula is the baddie

It seems most of these stories are all fairly good with just a couple that were so-so.. many good historicals and period pieces where as the sci-fi was hit and miss
