So please, stop quoting him and refrain from any kind of responses if he happens to resurface.

I completely agree. I've fought the desire to respond 'in kind' ever since the first bout of rudeness reared it's ugly head, because I love this forum not only for the sharing, but the politeness mostly missing from other DW forums/message boards. And I didn't want to change that, regardless of what *I* felt needed to be said. Heck, even if sharing stopped altogether, I'd still love this place for the fun, up-beat, and respectful discussions! I hope it continues so for a long, long time.

Please, please, when Ttroy reappears, just put him on ignore. I'd much rather read more of how everyone discovered the audios, what 8 meant to them, and other interests we share.

There are plenty of other DW sites where posters regularly treat each other like crap, if ever one feels the desire for a good scrap. Let's keep this thread the awesome place it is.

Can NOTHING in DW (or related!) lands be kept private until it's meant to be published? :)

The Avengers? Hmmm.

just checked the LC page on social media and he really did hot link it

Did he really, that's a real shame. If the forum goes belly up I'll miss the banter. It's my chill out with a cup of coffee after work. Who will I speculate with over who should be the next dr? or best companion? or length of a medic's scarf? and some of the cryptic titles are more entertaining than a crossword (I want them back btw). And all over whether some rumours are true that they've struck medic gold and found the missing ones against all the oods. A rumour that my head won't accept after all this time but my heart desperately wants to be true - it's like getting a valentines card signed by the girl at school you dreamed about, you want it to be true but every time you think about it you brain tells you she's out of your league and your mates are laughing themselves stupid.

My thoughts. We should jump ship :

On this thread - almost certainly.
On this site - not yet.

My thoughts as well. Had I not seen a particular post somewhere else long ago when trying to find out what happened to the Green Impish site, I'd never have stumbled into *this* site. And if those who set this thread up had gone underground, I'd now be completely in the dark and very sad. No reason to exclude new people, no real need to panic just yet. But it would be good to have a couple contingency fall-back plans 'just in case.'

Perhaps one site/thread only for sharing and another just for discussion? Like I said, I'd rather lose the sharing than the community, but hope to lose neither.

Anyway, here's a local thread that already exists, but sees very little discussion:

Ta!

I never really warmed to the replacement character, Oliver.

Been a while since I've watched it, but that whole season just felt a bit flat. Perhaps it was because Oliver was clearly Jeff-Lite and I think it showed up that the rest of the jokes/ideas were starting to be recycled without Coyle to give it a lift.

Always thought it was a shame that Kate Isitt faded away after Coupling. She's ... (checks the Missus isn't reading over my shoulder) ... gorgeous!

Did anyone ever watch the US version? I've never found a copy.

let's just try and forget it, lie low for a bit and carry on.

Man, did I miss out on some heavy drama. But I'm inclined to agree with this bit of advice. After several near-meltdowns in the last couple of years, it's worked well enough.

I not only took a break from the board, but from my experiment with the classic series. But I have to throw this out there: after the horror that was The Intasion of Vime (the reason I needed the break), the Rebus Operation was a total breath of fresh air.

EDIT

So really and truly I hope we can all get past this.

This went up while I was writing my post, and ran the risk of making me sound like I was being flippant. My condolences, 001-- a lot of the people here, myself included, have been through rough times in the recent past, and this forum really has been something of an oasis. Just going to pop in out of nowhere and give an opinion;

Just (finally) watched Lord Eight on dvd and I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. My friends who had seen it over the years semi-warned me away from it. The only thing I can think is that my long established book and audio relationship with this particular fellow has conditioned me into accepting the flaws in the film.

I was already of the opinion that it is cruel we never got a series for Eight, but now moreso..

Preach on, brother! I am from the other direction, I saw the movie the night Fox first showed it recorded, and watched it a few times(yes, I live in the US).....and while I KNEW it was to be an "american" version, I was looking forward to what they could do with a budget (we now know, of course)! I would not have even listened to LC if I had not discovered the doc and Charlie. Now I am a full blown fan of the outfit!

Time to put the prick in the balloon......

Rant 1;
What 8th Doctor?? [those who know me, know I argue against "The Movie"], the movie was an artificial construct, and should never ever be included in cannon, the '8th" doctor is solely a LC creation, so that they could have their own one to play with.
It seems people forget that they started as a fan group, convincing stars of the show to appear in a format that the BBC had not blocked, and as such they had the same remit as any of the other groups banned together to keep the franchise going, until the BBC woke up and realized that only DW could take on the STNG et-all US SciFi series flooding the world [a solo bright light being Babylon 5], as the popularity of LC grew so did it's powerbase within fandom, and earning a co-production contract and the return of the flagship show has seen the explosion of titles from this group....
Now they bestride the globe and tell FANS what to think, what to do, how to behave, use laws against us.....
To legitamise their 'Doctor', they have rammed him down our throats, forced him into NuWho, and continue to do so, peppering forums with trolls and agents to keep him in our thoughts.

Please do not get me wrong in anyway, Paul McGann is brilliant in the part, was not responsible for how the movie is written, and should be considered an actor doing very good work, but he is not the 8th doctor of LC, merely the actor playing him.

Yes, I am asking for a kick in the bollocks, but I do not claim any here, who love / like Medic 8, are said trolls/agents, - this is not the only open or closed forum I am a member of.. yet all have, 1 or 2 constantly pushing 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8 ......
or threatening to "Tell Mummy",
Call him Alternative 001, and add him to the Paradox Adventures and lets get on....

Rant 2;
I am OLD, I started watching the show when it was first broadcast, I listened to the first fan made cassette tapes, I made my own covers, spliced together episodes made up of video and audio, long before the BBC ever released video or audio... argued face to face with fellow likers of the show, resisted for many years ever going on forums.... so I sit back and read, sometimes comment, and can not understand why there is a need for the 'dis-empowered' to enforce their view on everyone else.
My only view on bitch fights - TAKE IT OFF SITE, ARGUE IN PM"S!!!! Personally I don't care if you don't like, agree or want to hear my views, if I do not write a post directly to you, it is for the one written to, anyone is free to read it, but only the addressee's opinion is great interest to me... other opinions hold some interest, but my ego doesn't need stroking.

Personal:
I have read and collected every word written by Terry Pratchett, and from this point of view, I can state - his books are crap..... some have good turns of words and well known plots, but in the most part, they are too predictable.
In the same way, I have collected every DW I can lay my hands, by begging, stealing [piracy] and borrowing... most I find crap, but I can only state that, [in the same way as Pratchett], if I have everything.........

First one to kick?? :)

I thought this was a riot. No bricks or bollock-kicks from me. And not to sound too sappy, either, but one of the things I find so great about the show is how different an experience it is for different people.

Wow. That's some serious none-love for 8th! :)

Dare I ask how you feel about the REG Doctor? Bit of a shame they never really did more with him. Shalka wasn't a particularly good story, but REG sounded great in the role.

As an anime episode, it was good, not great, but acceptable..

I keep looking, but can't seem to find my DWM issue with the big BBC announcement of : "Out with the old, in with the new Here is the 9th Doctor", as soon as I find it - when I have time, I will plaster it all over the forums.... aaah, what short memories us fans have :)

I do enjoy some of PMcG stories, but I also enjoy stories from other fan groups....

It is lucky in some way that REG did not do more than 1 'episode', it would really mess with the minds of the young, if he came back as the 'Great Intelligence'... that would be like Colin killing Peter, then regenerating into Medic 6.....hang on - that happened :)

Do you think we can form a group, constantly push 'Mr Bean' and have Curse of Fatal D8th put into cannon? That would make Matt, Medic 18.....

It's a constant fascination (if that's the right word in this context) to me when fans DO try and make the whole DW ball of wool into one canon and some of the mental hoops they have to leap through to do so - especially when some bits are predicated on assumptions based on tenuous (well, tenuous to me, anyway) links.

I sort of admire it when they can be open enough to make it all work together, but I think I'm always happier when I just view it all as multiple concurrent lines.

Can I get some advice on sharing a new release?

I'm all ready to share today's release of the two twins who are Without Grace. However, given what's happened in the last 24 hours, should I be posting it here?
I don't really have the time to sit and wait to PM people.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

I may suggest holding off for a couple of days until everything has cooled down perhaps? Unless the others who post have another idea (like the 24 hours only idea or something)

Paul McGann is not the 8th doctor of LC, merely the actor playing him.

LOL! I'm not sure what that means. I doubt you'll find anyone who believes P.McG is actually a Timelord. ??

Do you think we can form a group, constantly push 'Mr Bean' and have Curse of Fatal D8th put into cannon?

Well, one thing that definitely does not exist is this "cannon"[sic] so beloved of those appealing to authority. Otherwise, I say go for it ;-)
For me, 8 came through the BBC novel range and are still foremost in my own mind when considering his adventures, not LC. Which is a shame, 'cause I rather fancy the idea of being a scary Agent of 8 LOL. I discovered LC much later and is a whole 'nuther wonderful story in itself.

I guess I just don't see how being a fan of DW negates one's contributions to DW. You'd have to eliminate SO much - in a reverse pyramid - DW from the 1981 onwards, including all of the new series.

I know those who do, actually. But for different reasons than "fans did it." Heck, one of the first older fans I ever met refused to consider anything after Troughton "real" DW solely because the show switched to colour. He would assuredly have used "fan-fiction" or "not cannon" to describe 3 onwards, had those terms existed back then. "DW is meant to be black-and-white! You wouldn't want a colour 'Twilight Zone' or 'Citizen Kane', wouldja?!" The fact that DW had continued in colour for years longer than it had ever been in B&W made not a scrap of difference. But there are other, much younger DW fans I've read who disregard any post T.Baker stories, too. And for similar silly reasons.

But back to the original point, I agree with Evilmonk! Let's do it!!

First one to kick??

WTF?

That's certainly ... different. Any idea which things it's cobbled together from? Nice bit of work from someone, though.

(And, wow, I know it's not MEANT to be, but that's really not a pleasant look on PMcG's face in the first bit.)

Hew1tt, I love Eight, and I'm no more an agent of the BBC or LC than anyone else. I'm just a fan who appreciates that particular incarnation of the Medic. Also, regarding your rather blatant disregard of him, you may wanna check out the Live Action TV examples on this page (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BroadStrokes). If you still can't accept him, then enjoy your long and fruitful life considering him -as Paul McGann himself so eloquently put it- the "George Lazenby of Doctor Who".

Start a petition, signed by everyone in your town, to force your local library to sort themselves out! ;)

I'm not sure about Australia, but in North America, it's the publishers' fault, not the libraries. We're begging and pleading for ebooks but the publishers either refuse to sell to libraries at all, put insanely high prices on ebooks ($90 for a single title that sells for $9 on Amazon) or limits the number of checkouts so the library has to keep re-buying the title. So you're better off writing to the big publishers and explaining that libraries having their titles means they will sell even more, since many people want to try before they buy.

yep that's the situation with the audiobooks we can get online - x number of loans then the library has to buy them again...PITA

Sorry, no. I saw it posted on GB as response to the rumour they had cast John Hurt to be 8 instead of P.McG in the 50th. I had figured the kick was staged at the LC offices maybe, or for DWM, or summat. If it's fake, it totally fooled me LOL.

I hope that having a topic up, for which everyone can have a view, might give a bit of distraction...for awhile at least.

Surely :-) Naught wrong with that. Just sad for me to see one of my favorites in DW fandom rolled under a bus :-( Won't be the last time, though: the EDAs are already a fading footnote, and Paul will eventually want to stop the LC plays.

From Wikapedia;

"Despite the fact the Eighth Doctor appeared on television only once, he is the most prolific of all the Doctors (to date) in terms of number of individual stories published in novel, novella, short story and audio form."

So yes, I chose him for effect, joker that I am - if I really wanted to be flamed to death and thrown out of all fan-dom [faster than William Shatner telling a convention of Star Trek fans - "to get a life'], I would have said ' Let's ban all USA fans'

Please take it in good humour and scorch me a little, and forget the last few days of spite/counter spite :)

If you really want to do your head in, have a think about the REG medic.....is he the same one as appears in the 'Mr Bean' medic or a different one?
If the same one, at what point in the story does he disappear from the Bean story, zip across to anime world, and then jump back in.
If he's a different one, which one came first? or Does that open up the scope for other medics to come back again as new medics? Could that mean that DT comes back as 12, or 13, or 627, or 24^145?

On a similiar note, what version of eht retsam was delg (or prat or beev or sir derk)? We didn't actually see any regens except simo and (sort of) ainleee.......Maybe simmo regens into delg or comes back as prat and just doesn't mention to the quack about the future end of the chronolords.......

Total boloney of course..

8-)

All hypothetical (and probably irrelevant), and definitely fictional, but fun to think about.

Time to put the prick in the balloon......

Rant 1;
What 8th Doctor?? [those who know me, know I argue against "The Movie"], the movie was an artificial construct, and should never ever be included in cannon, the '8th" doctor is solely a LC creation, so that they could have their own one to play with.
yadda yadda yadda

medic canon is a complete mess, and in my mind is explained by his own meddling, go back change something and there are consequences for his own history. It all counts and it all happened we just dont know how it fits together.
And you can argue and make your own rules for what you count and what you don't. editing out an entire medic seems extreme to to me, but at least you aren't adding in an extra one no-one has heard of before - that would be silly!

But about Pratchett........

Yes, I am asking for a kick in the bollocks

I'm going to say this, and it's the last thing I'll say on the matter before I shut up and follow my own advice: I think it would be wise to follow the advice that keeps being posted, (and has only been sort-of followed, to be fair) and just completely ignore if ANYONE is discourteous or posts something that offends you. don't respond, don't bring it up (even indirectly) in another post, etc. I know that's very hard to do, especially if you weren't there to "chime in" when the offending post occurred, and goes against every instinct (It's just human nature to want to have the last word!), but that way there can't be any double standard and it won't perpetuate an argument. Just continue with original conversation, and if at any point someone becomes EXTREMELY hateful or harasses continually without provocation, go to an admin. Just keep the discussion friendly. :)

(and if you see an indication that any user doesn't like sarcasm or doesn't take well to teasing, I think it would be nice and polite to try and take special care not to do so with that particular user.)

Hear, hear. Let's just move on.

Richard Coyle's Lovecraft readings on Radio 4 were excellent and he was pretty good in Terry Pratchett's Going Postal as well. He's be my choice of those 3.

I saw him suggested a while back and I think he could be a great fit in the role, but I am not too hopeful of it (besides, an unknown (or relatively at least) could be a fun and entertaining watch as well).

The Discworld audios are entertaining, and good company when working solo nightshifts, as of course are DW audios

Do you mean the audiobooks or did they do audio-shows (like DW-BF) of the discworld series? (I listen at work as well LOL)

The popularity of Pratchett's work means that all of his books [though not his short stories] have been released on audio [both cassette tape and CD], they can be found on bit torrent downloads, or at most libraries... they are usually released at the same time as the paperbacks, if you have plenty of cash, amazon.com, if you are on a budget, eBay [or local similar auction sites] will be full of them... there are a few radio shows of the plays, which were preformed on radio, plus 4 live movies and 2 animes....

Time to put the prick in the balloon......

Rant 1;

Rant 2;

******
To Doctor Who 001,

I add my heart felt sympathies, to you and your family, as well

Rant on, rant on....nothing wrong with a good rant. Cannon is something I am changing my oppinion on recently, thanks to what has been done to Star Trek recently......Cannon, nowadays, is nothing more than looking at who signs the check.

That said, I used to 'help' out JNT back in the 80's as a US fan of the show, and after the start of the CB years, I gave up on the good doctor. I did not check anything out untill the 'dreaded' movie, and went it didn't go any where, I gave up again.

It wasn't till a friend introduced me to LC and thier take on number eight that I got excited again....enough to even start checking out the new show...so that said, no kicking anyone anywhere.....it just not, well, not what the Doctor would do.

Well ... it's official. The Avengers for 2014 release. Two 'big name' actors to play Keel and Steed - to be announced next month. I just hope they keep the original theme instead of trying to come up with their own like they did with the Stargate series.

Either way, I have to admit I'm quite looking forward to hearing it.

I wonder if they'll be tempted to go with the more famous theme rather than the early one? Knowing LC, I suspect they'll be faithful to the period.

DrWho001, I found this place just very shortly after my father died very suddenly. It was completely unexpected, and I'm only just beginning to recover from it. My heart absolutely goes out to you, and all I can say is that it's nice to have places like this where people pour out their support for you.

You're in my thoughts and prayers - I really do know how tough a time like this can be.

Foe, you are damn right! I've lost both my parents, my brother and my wife, all in 10 horrid years. And yes, I say this to you all: This is a wonderful place to visit, it lifts my spirits, and one person who has been so kind to me on here has given me many many hours of listening pleasure. [you know who you are, person at the start of the alphabet!]
The recent spat of posts regarding a certain person has, to be honest, depressed me. We are part of a family on here, lets ensure it stays that way, please?
Life is too short, and we all need to gain some solace and comfort, even from cyberfriends. [not the silver machineman type btw]
So, to you all, onward and upwards!

who001,

I would like to also sincerely express my Condolences to you and your family.

As some of you know, I disappeared from the forum for quite a while. I have had enough health problems of my own to deal with the petty insults from a few members (not directed at me, but just acrid comments which seem to be made by a few whenever their inner child feels insecure (and perhaps, some of those were actually children who haven't matured to a stage where rational reasoning and tolerance of opposing opinions exists). But, I do agree that 'Billy Gruff's Nemesis Under The Bridge' being banned is a VERY good thing, and I hope to start enjoying the intelligent conversations, the wit, humor and the good will that emanates from this forum once again. (and, I too am a huge fan of P McG !!)

Thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom, stupidity and just zaniness when you feel like it... it is a pleasure to come here daily and be diverted from my personal 'real life' problems.

I knew it dated back to JP's time as medic, but I can't recall a specific time when it was inserted into the lock. I'd have to watch a few of the 3rd medics adventures. I do seem to think that that key featured towards the end of his run though.

Sadly it is telling me 4 more hours.... So 5 in the morning then :(

Rapid It! Free Premium Link Generator. Fast Direct Download 2013 (http://rapid8.com/)

They just reworked their front page and interface.

Less spam and diddling about.

rapid8 is a premium link generator.

They download sendspace links with their premium sendspace account onto their server, and then you can down load for free at full speed that link from their server onto your hard drive.

They limit your number of links per hour they will fetch for you for free.

If you buy an account off them, which is unnecessary, the limits vanish.

Been using it for years.

Turn your popup/adblocks up to full though.

Of course if you turn up your popup blockings too high, they get tetchy and you block something "necessary".

And they don't just do this for sendspace.

:)

I use two firefox addons, one called "yes popups", and the other called "no script" which is a java blocker. Which leaves me almost popup free. I also have my flash player uninstalled which means absolutely nothing jumps out at me.

I have a cracked version of "internet download manager" which is integrated into my browser, that might make things easier.

I've almost always been able to use rapid8.

I think I'm the reason you're only allowed one filefactory link an hour after I downloaded 3 seasons of the Addams Family in an evening on Rapid8 one after the other in succession with no wait or queue.

Here's another premium link generator that handles sendspace

http://simply-debrid.com/generate

They let you have 5 links a day no matter the size.

Or you use jdownloader.

Jdownloader pwns sendspace.

Jdownloader keeps checking to see if the waiting time is over every 5 minutes (could be every 12 seconds for all I know.) and either starts to download your links by itself like a robot if the waiting time is over, or goes back to waiting.

I once foolishly queued up 17 gigs of movies on sendspace that took ARDUOUSLY 17 days to download.

NEVER AGAIN!

But Jdownloader runs the gamut for you while you are sleeping or while you are at work.

Yep I though that was a bit steep as well. I guess if each story was 5 or 6 CD's in length i.e. a 6 - 10+ part story that might ease the pain. Think I'm going to wait a bit and get some details before pre-ordering despite it being my favourite part of Who ever.

Same here.

Logically...

Unforseen/prolonged production costs?

Or...

Failure to reach target sales with the previous boxset?

Or...

Riding additional revenue generation for other specified or unspecified project or assets or recouping negative profit on another product.

Or...

When demand is greater than supply, you can either increase cost to decrease demand or increase supply to match demand. They can either generate the same profit surplus without having to create more product, or burn another thousand dvds, which would increase production costs and reduce profit.

Now that's a good question. They seem to have generally gone down well (I wasn't overly keen, but I appreciate that I'm in the minority) and they obviously left things open for her to return. Very odd. Perhaps it's a consequence of the scheduling issues they've been having?

Always struck me as an idea that must have looked great on paper when they first came up with it but then, when it actually came to writing the stories, no-one quite knew how to play it. Have to say though, I think Scherzo is one of the very best 8th Doc stories.

I must be odd in that I like all of the alt-universe arc, just a shame that they had to cut it short. I think there was more behind what they intended, however it was nice that the 8th Medic bumped into an old friend on his return

Oh, my, yes, Scherzo is just ... sublime.

Especially after that great mind-feck that is Zagreus.

Yeah. "looked good on paper" just about sums it up, really. I get that the idea of taking away his sense of Time would a terrible thing, but it just never came across properly - especially when the stories essentially subvert it by having effective time-travel by way of just moving to different areas that were more/less developed than others. Much the same way that early SG1 stories could do the same thing by going to older cultures via the gates.

And it doesn't help that the whole thing was wrapped-up in a hurry due to the TV series revival.

Though, maybe, in hind-sight that wasn't such a bad thing? Could they really have done that much more with the idea as it was? Probably not. But C'rzz's story could have done with just a little more before he was yanked out.

Absolutely. I think the idea was that they were planning on continuing the Divergent Arc for at least two more full seasons, but were forced by the Beeb to pull the plug on it; the idea being that with the TV show returning, people would be "confused" if they encountered a Medic in a universe without any Pepperpots or other familiar creatures...and no Police Box either.

It really is a shame it was wrapped up so quickly, but they still could have given C'rizz more to do for a while, before sending him on his way.

LOL! I'm not sure what that means. I doubt you'll find anyone who believes P.McG is actually a Timelord. ??

I took Hew1tt's post to mean that just because a fan fiction manages to get P McG to voice it, that does not make the work canonical.

This line has been resonating in my head for a couple of days, and keeps reminding me of the scene in Galaxy Quest where Tim Allen is ostensibly hired by fans to play act for them in their garage.

Despite the validity of Hew1tt's argument on an intellectual level, emotionally I must acknowledge to being easily sucked in by hearing the work voiced by the "real" guy. (Or the awesome David Troughton). I guess that explains my willingness to suspend my disbelief for the BBV works, which are flagrantly non-authorised.

Get the right guys to voice it, and my brain is just superficial enough to let itself be fooled into granting it canonicity. At least while it's playing.

Have been reading some interesting thoughts here on the 8th medic movie, how some people liked it and others not so much. I didn't mind it at all but the one thing which would have really killed the film for me was an idea being floated around that TB and NOT SMC was going to be the medic in the blue box at the start of the film, simply because Americans would recognise TB and be able to connect to the character more, fortunately one of the producers on the show was an ardent classic fan and insisted it be 7th starting the film to help keep continuity, thank god they did...

I took it to mean that Becuase he's a halfblooded bastard that the 8th Doctor is a Time Serf more so than a Time Lord.

But all this is moot.

8 was in one of the scenes with Clara.

It's almost impossible to see with the naked eye, but there are screen captures collected and 8 is clearly seen running past Clara seconds After Troughten did which makes this an as yet unseen 2 vs. 8 multi Doctor Crossover.

Is there possibly some half finished Shada-like Troughten episode they never talk about, recently found, kept secret and they've Forrest Gumped a whole lot of 8 into it to fill in the missing gaps from the unfilled sections to the story from the 60s?

You know like how Eight ANNEXED Shada himself for that BBI presentation at the beginning of the millennium... Wait? Wasn't there a lot of 2 and the brigadier left on the cutting room Floor from the 5 Doctors?

A dream I wish I had had...

Paul "You know, if you're Doctor Who's Girlfriend, and I'm Doctor Who, doesn't that make you my girlfriend Lalla?"

Lalla "I wasn't his girlfriend, Doctor Who was my PA, and if you think you're up to fetching my drycleaning and making my coffee, you might just have square enough shoulders for the job."
