Agreed!

mind you... at least they ditched that blown glass rotor!
I'm sure it sounded great when planned, and was amazing in the imagination, but the reality was never that special.

the first time I saw that rotor i nearly spit out my tea because it looked alarmingly similar to some blown glass dildos i'd seen down at the local sex shop...and then it moved! :D

I'm afraid that was it for me keeping a straight face anytime that rotor started.

(actually 11's sonic had a similar problem also...I'm starting to wonder where the props department was getting their inspiration)

While I am sure that the INTENT of the episode was to make him the new First Doctor, the overwhelming reality is that fans would never accept that, so it was sort of a wasted bit of info.

I've taken the route-of-least-resistance and stick to the BBC numbering, whilst hoping against hope that some future producer ret-cons the whole Hurt thing into non-existence.

They didn't say he was the thirteenth. They said he was one of thirteen. Cardinal number, not ordinal.
If you count the War Doctor, that does make thirteen.

How many regens did the Doctor lose by blasting the Dalek ship to kingdom come? That was A LOT of energy he used. They don't use Huon Energy, they use Artron Energy. But I think it just comes as a charge. But Artron Energy is supposed to be blue and zappy. Just like the Vortex Manipulator's SFX and Clyde got zapped by the same effect in SJA during a Doc cross over.
Huon Energy is gold and glowy.

other than a) regeneration, or b) regeneration limit?

I'd not really class them as RetCons. though, as they don't contradict any thing.

(I know there's the "immortal unless injured" line, but that can be read as 'immortal, but injury causes regeneration, and regenerations are limited' - so possibly an indirect contradiction.)

In the case of 6 to 7, insufficient injury to kill can cause regeneration.

It's possible the the head trauma caused a panic, that if he wasn't unconscious could have been abated with a little concentration?

Although there is a novel that says that seven went back in time astrally to kill himself then, because Sixy was about to decide to be evil.

if it's the novel I'm thinking of, then only sortof. It wasn't so much astral time travel as the potential Seven killing the present Six to prevent the other potential, the Valeyard.
or you could just go the Spiral Scratch way and have the fall be the last straw; not by itself enough to cause regeneration but piled on top of recent weakening events.

Anypne else having probs with sendspace?

They have two annoying data limits.

300 megs an hour, then you have to wait an hour.

1 gig a day, then you have to wait for the start of their new financial day, and who the hell can be sure when that starts.

Or maybe you are suffering from new unique problems?

Not to mention that the accelerator SS uses is full of malware :(

One, you don't use that. Even if it was safe, it looks dodgy.

Two, they think they're being helpful, maybe they they know they're annoying, but I doubt they are trying to be evil.

Par for the course. :)

If you want to use bundled installers (adware, etc.) of any kind, install them in sandboxie, download the files and save them to your actual harddrive, then purge the sandbox (so none of that stuff actually got installed to your computer, it got installed into a sandbox which was then deleted permanently :P)

Avoid it whenever possible, however. Just don't use the download accelerator.

Format doesn't really matter to me. I already have (Of The) City of the Rescued, and the R*a*n*d*o*m S*t*a*t*i*c book Isaac's Nap, which seems to be freely available online. Hi,

I've just noticed that these files are "set to private" (or at least that's the message I get when I click on the links!) - it might be that I am doing something wrong? I just wondered if you could advise?

it's true, that I've set them to private to protect them.

a couple of things to note.

1. please don't quote RWQ posts, or if you do, remove the links. otherwise they show up plain as day. then the links get taken down and i get my account suspended.

2. please don't ask for things in plain language. it's too easy for web trawlers to find links when these mentions are obvious: they can be found in a simple google search. then the links get taken down and i get my account suspended.

Untick the option that says "use our accelerator".

%95 of the time when I find a good looking sendspace link, I use Jdownloader to subdue it, which negotiates the links perfectly and even waits all waiting periods if there are a lot of them, and then robotically reconnects to sendspace no matter where in the world else you are after that waiting duration has been completed.

Bad luck Sahsabot.

An off-topic request for information. I'd like to be able to transfer our (UK) Freeview broadcast recordings from our PVR to a hard drive. It outputs HDMI, so this device would have to have an HDMI input and a large hard drive, and have a network connection of some sort. Failing this, something that will record the output and then allow a transfer to a USB plugged in drive.

Does anyone have any experience of a device like this and can point me in the right direction? Be gentle to a non-tecchie please.

Most laptops have an HDMI port.

HDMI cables are standard and idiot proof.

(I think HDMI cables are expensive, but they're almost cheaper than a pack of cigarettes.)

That's the cheap solution, assuming that you already have a lap top made in the last 5 years.

If you just want to plug a hard drive into the back of something and leave it there, that sadly involves talking to a monkey in a store and giving them hundreds of dollars possibly, and they usually have no idea what they are talking about because the customer never describes their situation exactly and precisely. You always end up paying a call out service fee to get a man in.

It could still be easier and cheaper to pick up a second hand lap top than buy a store monkey approved hard drive and the appropriate interfaces... But my way looks hodge podge and the wife will stop sleeping with you for being stingy.

Oh.

I have no fricking idea what I am talking about.

You would think that this would be a good reason to reintroduce slavery to the first world.

So many people can't work their DVDR timers, and their VCR timers before that, but if you could chain a disenfranchised foreigner to a wall in your living room with a list of programming that they have to record for you, it would make life a whole lot easier for some.

LOOK WHO'S TALKING

Didn't think this belonged in the soundtrack thread and I've never seen this posted anywhere else before. Look Who's Talking is a collection of answering machine messages read by various Doctor Who actors - Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Nicholas Courtney, Elisabeth Sladen and Sophie Aldred. It was a very limited release through DNA Productions back in 1998 (or so I'm told). I picked mine up at a Gallifrey Convention back in '00 and had it signed by the late Nicholas Courtney. My edition is hand-numbered as #0136.

Track 17 has been my cell phone voice message for over a decade. Love that track!

IF this is a true report, then I send my sympathy and my wishes to her family and her loved ones.
Yes you are right in that her name is Claire, I know from private chats in the past,
However today is the 8th, you say she passed away on the 4th, and as a member of the DWAD forum, it states that she has been online in the past 24 hours!

I am not saying that you are wrong, but it is rather odd that it states she has been online in the past 24 hours.

I am not saying this to start a debate, an argument or a major event on here, because if Claire has gone then it is a sad day for all who knew her, but if it not true, then is rather a sick joke or sympathy play to garner attention.

Again I mean no offence by this comment, and I for one would actually like to know the truth.
Davros, I don't know you, or anything about you, and I accept you have taken this info as an innocent, however if I find out different and that saying some one has passed as an attention seeking device, I will do unto you as you namesake's creations did unto him!

Bizarre. Who goes through a friend's computer when they have passed away to leave a death note on every forum the person used?

Having said that, as Amanda says, we take things at face value so - RIP Claire. Having survived three episodes of cancer in the past, I feel greatly for Goldie's family. You usually find the cancer sufferer can cope with the pain and medications, but its seeing the effect on family and friends that is the hardest part.

If this is true, its sad news and yet another unexplainable/unjustifiable loss to a terrible disease.

From what I've seen and heard it is true. I have no doubt. Anna is just trying to say goodbye I think. Maybe this helps? Sad day.

Ever heard of "porn buddies" ?

To quote from Coupling ....

Susan: Jeff!
Jeff: Hello!
Susan: That Steve guy. How well you know him? As you close?
Jeff: Close? We’re porn buddies.
Susan: Porn buddies?
Jeff: Oh yeah!
Susan: Is it code? Were you together in prison or something?
Jeff: Many years ago, Steve and I exchanged house keys.
Susan: Are you sure this isn’t code?
Jeff: It’s not code. In the event of Steve’s death, the first thing I will do, upset that I would be, is going straight to his house and remove all the pornography before his parents can find it. And he’s pressed to do the same for me. That’s so close we are!

Update that to "his computer and delete all the pornography"

Davros, just as a matter of interest, what was your relation to Claire? You always seemed to be in the know about her, stuck up for her last month when she went off the rails and really only started posting on here when she got banned. That sounds accusatory, but isn't the intention. Just interested. Did you know her in person or just online?

---------- Post added at 08:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 PM ----------

I do indeed remember that! One of the memorable highlights from that show.

I got chatting to her via Pm. We had ... A little flirt ( well I did) and we just chatted and became sort f pen friends. Because I was chatting to her and she was giving me her shares via PM I didn't really feel the need to join the main forum. I'm totally gutted about her passing away. I cried when I first heard. How someone can be so nice and then gone. It's a cruel world.

Hi my name is Anna , I have been communicating with a few people to inform you that my friend Claire, whose account this is has passed away. This website was 1 of 3 in the favourites list so I know it was important and looking what you do here I can see why. She loved doctor who. In September 2013 Claire's was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer. She has been really brave for months but sadly she passed on 4th February 2014. I'm letting all who knew her know the news.

We have all said how sorry we are about her passing and it is a genuine tragedy, however, you don't need a gimmick to pay your respects to the dead.

If you want to do something that will help, go to your regional cancer research site and donate as small an amount as $3 or 2.

Agreed, make a donation in her name. It's a far more meaningful act.

Sadly Goldie/Claire is not the first person to die of cancer and will not be the last. Us writing posts in pink is not going to change that.

Just my opinion fellas. Obviously the rest of you can do as you like and I wont pass comment, but thats why I wont be doing it.

Sometimes it's better to keep your opinion to yourself. I donate to cancer funds having gone through my brother having tesdicular cancer 2 years ago. I just wanted to honor a friend not get a lecture. Would it really have affected you just to keep quiet and let people do something nice?

Making a donation to cancer research is by far a better option than us writing in pink, without our support for research we will never find a cure for this illness.
Something equally important is the MacMillan trust, their compassion and caring for sufferers is boundless, if you want to show you care then I suggest you give whatever you can to either or both of these charities.

You can make a donation here;
Cancer Research UK: the UK's leading cancer charity (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/?gclid=CPe0gdvhv7wCFQgOwwodek8A2Q)

Or here;

An opinion I share. i think that the great majority of us has probably lost someone or other to cancer. it is a terrible disease in all its forms. What is desperately needed is the necesary funds for research and also to make medicine actually affordable. Too many people cannot have access to the proper treatments or diagnosis. Re:Goldie. It is very sad that she can no longer be with us but I'm sure she'd want us to carry on as normal. Mark her passing in your own way. Dark Eyes 2. Love me some Eight. However, February's monthly also has me excited, as I've become sorta acquaintances with Andrew Smith via Twitter. I once Tweeted to him how much I really loved the origin story for the Sontarans he wrote for the Lost Stories range and how I considered it just as good an origin story for an enemy of the Doctor's as "Spare Parts" for the Cybermen and "Genesis..." for the Daleks. He replied back, thanking me and even addressed me by my real name! It was really special to me. It even felt good to hear from him again after I gave him my feedback for his 3rd Doctor tale for the "Destiny of the Doctor" range, which was also pretty positive.

Or maybe stick in all the comic relief docs at the half hour mark!

Quite right. There's only one thing you put in the side of a hill. A round green door (http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/File:Ted_Nasmith_-_An_Unexpected_Morning_Visit.jpg).

That idea got vetoed, too :(

(At least her terribly sensible idea of using secure french-windows lets some more sunlight in! :) )

Love it, an actual size tardis would be brilliant, I'm sure somewhere somebody has a shed with a tardis exterior door, that would be cool

actual size? yes, yes that would be brilliant. Granted, getting the outside to fit around the inside would be a challenge.

Hello all. Can anyone help me with a request?

I am looking the FREE DWM audios;

No Place Like Home
Last Of The Titans
The Ratings War
Living Legend

No rush. If you have them, i'd be very grateful of a temporary upload.

Thanks all.

Got all the DWM freebies ripped somewhere, I should be able to dig them out in the next few days. Don't hold me to it or anything, but I should be able to sort it for you. :)

The search function at that place is wiggy.

You can search for something 5 different ways before you finally find that they had it all along.

I'll be blunt. This project I randomly found off the web is making me cringe internally.

Exteminate Me made me listen to his Podcast where his gang held Daphney Ashbrook hostage for 2 hours.

I've stopped despising her since then.

I like their idea of not knowing which one is which until the very end, but I prefer my revelation that he Master is and always has been Susan.

People actually have already given money for that thing? Don't they realize the BBC will sue the crap out of them if they even try to get put on screen? I'd say it was just a fan film, but they want over a million dollars for it, so...yeah no. They want to try to market this thing, and the BBC will be on them so fast they won't know what hit them.

Some Fan Films cost a lot of money to make.

About that much even.

As long as they don't charge money in any way, or the cast gets paid in any way (well lets be serious, someone is going to feed them.), then it falls inside a protected niche where copyrights are less binding.

Is this the same thing as Sons of Galli*frey? It seems to have a strikingly similar basic plot line.

Well if you listen to the show, the first Medic didn't even remember the Master from School... But thought's of dipping the Rani's pigtails in inkwells still kept Seven unwholesome throughout his fit of regeneration flu.

Did her BBV adventure paint much of this Timelady's backstory?

It's not about our famous medic, as they say: "(...)This will be the pilot episode for a brand new, original series, and when it's complete, we will bring it to the network for consideration(...)" It's no fanfilm because they want to produce it as pilot for network.

It's certainly heavily implied that its the same pitch as when it was called "Sons of Gallifrey" (and later just "Sons");

Many stories have been told of the men called Doctor and Master.
But this is the story of two young men whose names have not yet been chosen - Who's destinies have not been set.

So its a bit vague whether it is or isn't about The Doctor and The Master or just two other characters with a similar relationship.

It does make me wonder how much of the changes where advised by a lawyer...

And I still think the idea of making what basically amount to a Doctor Who spin-off and then taking it to the Beeb and seeing if they want to make the series is incredibly naive.

I suppose that, strictly speaking, you could see it not that he didn't remember The Master, just that he didn't recognise him when he met him in 5D's. I'm just throwing that in the mix - I'm not going to defend it, in any way!

As far as I can recall, BBV didn't do anything for Rani's backstory - I think, by that time, they were being very careful not to step on the BBC's toes.

It's a trial.

Those things can get messy as you explain how you had to turn to a life of evil after your unpredictably tragic childhood.

Understand Farty byes the sequel has been released. Has anyone uploaded it yet?
with the devious way we all code things, I may have missed a post.
Sorry if I'm being a tad impatient, but I might have missed something!
Cheers to all, and great to see such diverse subjects being discussed here!

I'm bored, how about a game of I-SPY while we wait?
You can use your "sinister peepers too".

See what I did there?...yes, I know, that was a very bad cryptic moment. I'm tired. Must sleep now.

help I can't see a link, sorry, long day at work

go to the bottom right of Emeralds post, there are 3 buttons, 'reply' 'reply with quote' and I'm assuming that other one is 'quote'
hit Reply with Quote and look for the link in the box that opens up when you do that...
