Here Here, Speedy recovery EM, thank you to all who have posted through 2016 and all the best to everybody for 2016. I was watching daye of t dleks 1972 with my small boy he is only 2 and a half and he loves them, at the end I noticed that nick brrriggs was the voice of the pepper pot men, this confused me greatly as when I looked it up he would have been about 11 or 12 at the time, I have since realised it was the re masted version. I was thinking did this guy start young or what...

1st Medic Commentaries Pt 2 of 2: The CobWeb World - The 9+1 World

Orhan eps The Crusading Pt 3, The 9+1 World Animated Pt 4, Celatial ToyBringer Pt 4, and Pepperpot Masterplan 5 & 10 did not have commentaries
And no Commentaries for missing stories of course.

Also included a Document Guide to the commentaries that says who is speaking on what in case you're seeking out specific actors/wirters/producers.

Underliquid Menacing will go up in march once I get that release other that that- the Classic Medic Commentaries are done. I'll leave these links active for a couple of weeks before taking down.

I would say that's it- but a friend has graciously loaned me their NuMedic DVD Sets Series 1-4/specials (as Mine are only digital files), so I'll be upping Commentaries for 9th and 10th Medic Episodes. After that I may be done as I have the BD's of 11th and 12th Medic but no capability to Rip BD (rather than DVD).

<!--1st Medic Audio Commentaries 2 of 2: https://mega.nz/#!gEExwKbK!SZLc9EXaA0tiyJSLYOoyzomLUAs9gd19tfEC3MO6Xyg-->

I use Ma(y)keMK(ay)V and Hand(s)brake for ripping BD, then export it into Vegas/Premiere and extract the audio - although it's a lengthy process that takes a couple of hours.

Glad to hear everything went well EM, hope the pain goes away quickly!

I had to have a thyroidectomy last year, so I know exactly what that feels like. Whatever you do, don't get the hiccups! I got them almost immediately after surgery, and had a miserable 3 days because of it, couldn't do a thing to stop them and it hurt every single time. :/

Thanks. I am prone to hiccups too, unfortunately. I'm waiting to see an endocrinologist first, to see what their opinion is. I just know that my enlarged thyroid is pressing into my oesophagus (or esophagus, for you Americanos) - it makes swallowing some things a bit difficult. I don't want it pressing into my trachea either - I need to breath!

Yep, breathing's kind of important! Definitely make sure you get a good endocrinologist, my town didn't have one and so I got stuck with a nose and throat doc that wasn't even going to give me a biopsy on a suspicious thyroid nodule because it wasn't big enough to cause breathing or swallowing problems yet, didn't seem to really care at all. I had to practically beg, and I'm so glad he finally gave in because it turned up cancerous. Fortunately it was both early and slow-growing, I got the all clear in December, but I hate to think what could've happened if it hadn't been caught.

I hope you get someone that cares enough to be thorough, fingers crossed that they can figure out what the problem is without too much time or trouble!

Luckily I've had biopsies on the nodules (they're just full of oil, basically) but I have so many of them, the largest being around 4cm (1 1/2 inches). They don't seem to be growing any further at present, and my thyroid hormones aren't affected. So, it's just really the problems above-mentioned that are the things I'm concerned about. My GP is good, and will get onto people if they don't get a move on.

The news of BOWIE passing is devastating, as I've been on a huge DB wave, listening to everything again lately, and then knew once I saw the videos for Blackstar and Lazarus that something was wrong (I didn't know about the cancer).
But, both of those tracks are fantastic, experimental and visceral pieces of art.
What a send-off.

Is the LC free preview of H2Os of Amisterdamnz a unique chapter/prelude to the audio? Or is it merely the first chapter and, as such, a part of the audio proper?

I signed up for the newzlettre (as it is available only to subscribers of same) but hadn't received anything after that (no link, no newslatter, no acknowledgement that I had even signed up) so, if it IS an extra bit - might someone upload it?

(I know the code to DL it from LC, but not WHERE to do so)

Sorry for my stupidity (it's right there in my user-name) and thank you for your kind aid.

It's only the first part of the story, which functions as a taster for the entire 4 part story. As for how you download them, you usually get a newsletter in your inbox when a big event release (like the War Medic box sets or the recent one with Melody Pond) has come out. You click on the bit in the newsletter where it says you can get part 1 of a story, and then you are taken to the LC site where you enter the download code to get the free download.

Regarding The Captive;
DISCLAIMER: This is my only warning before you click the spoiler box; I discuss it and I am blunt. If you Love/Hate it, recognize that this is My view, I am not passing judgement on it as a whole.

My views;
So, I will confess I am a recent-ish fan of the original show. I've known about it for a long time, and came back to it in 2003 or so in an off-and-on sort of thing. It became my workout video in 2013 (they are like 50 minutes, so for the cardio portion of my workouts I started watching it). I like the Captive.

So, when LC announced they were doing an audio series, I was interested. Not super-interested, but Lord Pepperpot has been pushing it so hard in the podcasts that I just sort of assumed it would be a lovingly crafted retelling similar to their Revengers line.

It is not. It's more in line with Hollywoods "remakes" of old stuff that checks off the essentials; Rover, the fact the characters are numbered, they live on an island, etc.

Rather than tear it to pieces, because I do generally like it in the way that I like their Drama series releases (they are fun adaptations), I'll just focus on one aspect that turns me off totally;
The Technology
I recognize that they attempted to make a parallel of the technology on the island being advanced for that time. Thats fine. That is how the original was. However, The Internet, Widescreen .. basically IMAX ... television and online services - all of that stuff - was just not physically possible in the 60s. The first episode focuses on that stuff and shows #6's disbelief of it, but that stuff would have made gibbering idiots of the people of that time. StarWars blew peoples minds. The original trilogy. Thats why it was such a blastoff hit.

From that episode onward, the technology becomes more alien and strange. #2 approaches it like we are going to get a reveal that one of the aliens from the freaking Medic is going to be behind it all. Its ....I can only say it is obscene in context to the source material.

Probably, if I had never seen the original, I wouldn't mind this. Maybe it's just my mindset right now, I dunno. I just am not much of a fan of this release.

With the utmost of due respect. My review of the captive is the exact opposite of Kimekaro's. In EVERY way.(Whom i often usually agree with.)

But as an aside to his review - i dont think anyone was impressed with the technology in star wars. On top of it being a "tinfoil fantasy" (which i love) It is clearly not remotely indicative of any technological advances our society was moving towards. Quite the oppposite in fact, Thats what made it stand apart from things like 2001 and many "believable" others which had come a decade or more before.

Again, this is meant with the utmost of respect for everyone's opinions which they are completely entitled to.

I'm totally ok with being disagreed with!

Like I said its just my own opinion and various life stresses probably are playing a big role in the free time I have to listen to stuff (basically any free time is just time I am cheating on in order to get some sanity). I do still have one last story to finish on the set so maybe something will happen that totally stuns me and changes my mind. I am always open to that happening!

My point exactly!! ...I was soo tempted to say that very thing.

Im super okay with being disagreed with too Kimekaro. The world would be pretty boring if we all had the same opinions. Maybe it just rubbed you the wrong way? I know I couldnt get into "Revengers lost tales" for the first 3 times i tried listening to episode one. By the time i finally finished episode 2 - I was hooked.

They're still saying no. I'm pretty sure that's not going to change simply because these ST are supposed to be cheap little adventures and a CD release would involve 6 discs per year which would be pricey comparatively.

10 conflicting explanations for captive technology.

1. The village is from the future. It's translocated into the past for some reason.

2. Relativistic flight. Fast as light radio communication is by definition much faster than any subluminal speed, even if you're not trying to move hundreds of tons extrasolarly quicker than a radio wave. Therefore if the village is on another planet, it can have people from the 1960s side by side with technology from a more modern era.

3. Clones or (cryo) stasis. It is modern times and 6, physically or mentally is from the late 1960s.

4. Modern technology is old. Secret billionaire cabals were slowing the advance of modcons to effect more control over Earthlings and the economy by controlling rollouts. You'll recall that this is a subsubsub plot from Men in Black.

5. The entire Village is a computer generated artificial environment. Actually if this were the case, it's as likely that 2 is the real person facing off 6 who is an NPC (Non playing character) if you want to explain why modern day people are trying to pretend it's still 1969.

6. The entire village is hypnotically rendered in the minds eye of 6. In which our future here, is hypothetical and what we perceive as relatable modcons from 2016, are just random words a hypnointerrogator in 1969 is stringing together randomly.

7. Better than life (From Red Dwarf, remember?). Full immersion games, that do not exist, superLARPing would have the player have no idea that he or she is a player, and therefore "the player" in actuality could be from any point in history or future history.

8. Dreaming, or madness. If 6 had a car crash in that lotus, after a bump to the head, he could be a loon walking around making no sense to normal people who are not mad, as he rambles on about a magic village, or he's in the hospital and hasn't woken up yet, like in Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes.

9. It's a do-over. Sure they did what we saw them do to 6 on TV in 1969, but now, 47 years later. They've reset his brain to Arrival, and want to see if Six is going to act or react differently when forced to press against almost identical stimulus.

10. 2016, where we are and who we, are is false. All this mush and substance surrounding you is the conjecture of a possible future allotted with common Village technology from where 6 has escaped, it is 47 years later and these are his memories of the beginning on the east coast of the Island before Six was rescued by the Dharma initiative.

It's a bit like hearing that there's a cure for the common cold but because there's so much money made from cold remedies that the companies pay to not have it released. I heard that one when I was training as a nurse. The common cold industry is worth billions and billions of dollars.

Okay so now that I got that out of the way...I finally sat down and listened to The Scribblings of Melody Pond the other night and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. The first three stories were just boring. I fell asleep twice while listening to them, and the fourth story featuring 8 just reinforced my belief that Miss Melody only works as a character when she has a Medic to play off of....like a certain Edwardian adventuress she just doesn't work well as the lead. She's a companion pure and simple.

I liked the Tales of Watery Melodies overall (1st was boring, 2nd was interesting, 3rd was GOAT, 4th was a bit disappointing) actually, much more than the Conflict Medic: Just The Terrifying (which was like a disappointing Homeworld story. The medic's people felt quite flat and non dynamic compared to the Homeworld stories with interesting characters like βrαxiatel and Nαrviη. I guessed the outcome much in advance and the tweests felt quite obvious to me. I felt that the Delight girl was a bit simplistic and the tinpots were poorly utilised). Single Genocide was also a quite flat, I don't feel that much which was exceptional caught onto me in terms of the plot. It was fairly self evident with a puddle deep mystery and nothing exceptionally interesting happened compared to Single Mastery and Klεin was, in my opinion, a superior character and more complex compared to Osgooδ.

The best episode from their recent output that I listened to was probably The Ruby Woman from Ominous Alliance, however. It was a deliciously creepy story with great setup.

Bloody hell. I think at the rate people are popping off so far this year, we'll soon have to write "the late" more often.

Actually, that just reminded me of Hitchhikers - "Late, as in the late Arthur Dent?"

Thank you, Rassilon Imprimatur. I think at this point, it's unlikely that an individual tracks version was shared on the interwebs, so this will do. *Spacedog likes*

Oh, hey, btw.. anyone else have some trouble getting into "The Ebony Cavity" (the 2nd Medic feat. the Scotsman and Vyktoria)? I've heard great things about, but I gave up after maybe about 10 mins. I think it's great that D.W. still comes on board to play Vyk, but she sounds too old. Look, I am no kid either, but I wouldn't try to do a voice that is me older but intended to be me as 27 years younger. I think someone here (maybe it was another forum) mentioned something to the fact that they should have her narration be in her present, reflecting on a Past Adventure with the Medic. I like that idea a lot!

Look, everything about the audios is suspension of disbelief. Do William Russell or Peter Purves sound exactly like William Hartnell? Definitely not, but they're great performances. Does Frazier sound exactly like Patrick Troughton? Closer, but not exactly. We're wiling to suspend our disbelief enough to enjoy their stories, right? Same with Debbie and Victoria. I'd argue that Debbie sounds closer to young Victoria than William does to the first Doctor.

But more to the point, because of her aging voice, LC have done very few stories with her, even though many fans consider her time in the TARDIS one of the finest areas of the show's history. I'd rather have more stories with that TARDIS team than less of them. And that means using Debbie as she is today. I'm ok with that. I was very glad that they added her to the TEA series! And this was a GREAT story!

That is the exact same reason why I couldn't get into the latest 3rd Medic Adventures: couldn't quite picture young Jo and young Mike with their actor's voices being so... well, old.
That and Tim Tree-Lore trying too hard to do a Purr-twee impression. And the narration, trying to make us forget about Nick Curtney' absence.

I liked the ebony cavity although her voice was terribly distracting. The last story failed to hold my attention. It seemed quite slow. 3rds stories were good but I wish the narrator wasn't continuing his impersonation. It was great for the speaking parts but off putting for the action.

Actually, I quite liked the impersonation. Yes, I felt as though he was trying too hard at times but, overall, I loved it. The only part I didn't like was the narration, substituting for an absent Brig. Surely they could do something better?

Deb's voice, for the EA's - yes, it is distracting as her voice is really sounding so old, the others I don't mind. Still, it is nice to have her on-board!

I'll need more importantly the eighth medics' ones 'cause now i'm stuck not even at half the story, any help would be much appreciated

Try finding older versions of the site through archive.org

Actually, I quite liked the impersonation.

Sorry, I wrote that too fast. I liked the impersonation for when he was speaking for the medic. I disliked it for the narration.

I don't know how I feel about that. Of course they'd have to change the narration as it would be funny to hear the actor say something like: "We decided to go down to the lake", if the actor has dropped out of character. It would have to change to: "The medic decided to go down to the lake".

I wasn't look for anything else at the moment (working my way through Series 5 and 6 of the two Victorian Gentlemen.. Good stuff, too!), but did some looking about on GB's forums. Seems A LOT of people quite liked these stories, some saying it was probably one of LC's best! I tried the torrent route, but it's lagging something fierce! If anyone has the whole series to be shared, that would be awesome.

This last batch of EAs, I'd have almost preferred if FH had not done the narration as well. His medic kept slipping back into his natural voice and it was distracting. The problem did get better with each subsequent story.

The Yesterday People was an excellent series, but Thamesriver decided to sell the license to CW so they could do their remake. And wasn't that memorable?

And that one was presided over by Roger P himself, IIRC? It's a great concept, but in a world where superheroes are the norm, needs more than "special powers" as a hook, which the original had, in the shape of engaging leads and a lot of charm. Though that probably wouldn't do it either, these days.

Here's Yesterday Peeps S1 E3. Don't seem to have ep 1, sorry, but I'll upload the others I have shortly.

With the news of no nuwho this year except Xmas, I wonder if this is why LC got the rights to do nuwho stories as a sort of stop gap until it's return.

I wish they would just do a season and an Xmas special each year and stop mucking about with it.

I suspect due to muppet doing sheerluck this year is a big factor as well

What would be great is if they allowed LC to do a boxset of audios with cupaldi!

The fact that the B is saying no Who due to the busy schedule of the olympics reminds me of their lack of giving a crap about the series that led to its original cancellation in the first place. A simple and honest "We don't want to budget it this year" or "The actors involved want a year off" would have left a better taste in my mouth.

---------- Post added at 08:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 AM ----------

Also, Churchill was fun. But it was just a new CC really. Surely they could have named it slightly differently and used it to launch The NuWho CC's.

(Also, ridiculously inaccurate portrayal of that character. I'm just saying.)

Matt Paradise
01-23-2016, 04:21 PM
It's nothing to do with any of that, or what the BBC said - M0ffat was leaving, the BBC didn't have Chibbers signed up yet, so they asked him to stay for an extra year. He agreed but said it was too late to get anything ready as he had Sherlock to do, so if they wanted him, they'd have to delay 6 months.
