Peter is being portrayed by an actual teenager, for once, and Holland is a trained gymnast.
And Keaton is an inspired choice. Batman, Birdman, Vulture.
Also check out the international trailer. Has some footage the domestic trailer does not.

Yikes, why are people going apeshit over the Spidey trailer?
Why is Ned Leeds fat and dumpy? Why is he in high school and not at the Daily Bugle?
This movie is committing the cardinal sin of Spider-Man by having fatass boy knowing his secret identity too. That's part of Spidey's schtick --- no one knows his secret identity!
Looks like Spectacular Spider-Man still reigns supreme as the best translation of the web-head to the screen. :notgood:

Specially when comics literally have thousand versions and happenings of a character and have done loads of stuff so different.. that.. literally, their movie versions might as well be just ANOTHER version of alternate of the character which is something very common in the comic world. So why complain so much about it??

On GoTG we agree.
As for Spidey, I like Holland and I love the idea of Keaton playing the Vulture. Keaton's got a rage bubbling underneath the humor that could make the Vulture an interesting villain. (Wait, an MCU film with a good villain? What went wrong?)
What I'm not so certain about is the director. Cop Car had some good moments, but moments do not a film make. Cop Car, IMHO, was a short film padded to feature length and not successfully.
We've seen studios employ directors on the basis of one film and give them a major tentpole movie. Sometimes it works, Trevorrow with Jurassic World and sometimes it craters, like Trank and Fantastic Four. Of course, Trevorrow had Spielberg's full support while Fox cut Trank's budget days before shooting began. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, in both feet.
Disney paid Tony Gilroy about $5 million to reshoot portions of Rogue One after Disney execs saw the first cut of the film. The problem, apparently because no one is really confirming what the issue was, with the film was the characters and their development. I wondered about Edwards ability to direct a Star Wars film when Disney announced he was their man because while he can shoot an action sequence, he hasn't shown me he can direct people.
The weakest parts of Godzilla were the characters. They had none. They were disposable. The best parts of the film: anytime the monsters rampaged across the screen.
So, Gilroy reshot the character beats and apparently rewrote the ending. Now a case could be made that the script that Disney approved was weak to begin with and that's on Disney. (It requires the skill of a top tier director to take a sow's ear of script and spin it into gold and Edwards is not there yet.) DC did the same thing to David Ayers giving him only six weeks to write Suicide Squad. In fact, DC locked down the air date of Squad before they had a script. Explains why the film feels so disjointed, why some sections work and others fall flat.
That all said, Marvel has done a good job at picking its directors. I was frankly amazed that Marvel let Gunn not only write but direct GoTG especially since he'd never directed so large a film. But it worked.
And it helps when you're a team player. Ayers and Edwards publicly supported the reshoots of their films, saying they were no big deal. Just tweaking, improving them. Trank, however, lambasted his film on Twitter the day before it screened. He's going to be slaving away in the indie salt mines for a long while until Hollywood let's him back in and play with the big boy toys.

I'm not looking for an exact copycat. I'm looking for a team of writers who know the character. The formula has worked for over 50 years: Spider-Man's secret identity is a secret. The only civilian who knows this is his wife. That's it. To give him a chubby sidekick to confide in completely subverts so much of what makes Spidey tick internally too; his job isn't hard because "hurr durr Tony treats me like a baby", it's because he has to grapple with both his powers and his normal life and can confide in no one. That's Peter's great struggle.

Asshole ≠ unreasonable. It's totally reasonable to have some judgement on the final product based on the trailer, because guess what: that's what trailers are for.
There are good interpretations and bad ones. This is looking more like a bad one than a good one. It definitely won't be as bad as ASM2 though.

At this point in the franchise it might as well be an MCU film, considering how farfetched the automotive mayhem has become.
But there's always Charlize Theron. Hopefully she channels some Furiosa in her performance.

Disrespectful? Haven't you heard, respect is just another term for political correctness. And we can't have any of that. It warps the mind, curves the spine and loses the war for the Allies.
Besides, when has respect ever mattered when Yuge, excuse me, Huge sums of money are involved?
Theron, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, is pretty awesome. She's enough for me to plunk down my filthy moola.

^That is a fantastic cue. A favorite of mine too. At 8 (almost 9) minutes, it's quite entertaining, and there's such a lot to it thematically. I was always impressed with the organization of the the material and how you're lead through it by Williams' masterful technique. This cue has just always really caught my attention. I also like the militaristic-like theme starting at 7:32. Reminds me a bit of "March of the Resistance".

Agree on Charlize Theron.
And speaking of Furiosa, about to check out the Black & Chrome edition of Mad Max.
It's a lot different than just dropping saturation to zero.
I read somewhere that someone posted articles that they read somewhere that said they used different color filters first before dropping saturation to achieve different effects of black and white (or shades and hues of gray gradiants).
Now we just need a 35mm film scan. A nice "Grindhouse" presentation.
Natural film flaws, none of that crap that Robert Rodriguez did for his "Grindhouse" movie.

Actually Miller shot the film digitally. It was his Director of Photography John Seale's first all digital film. Originally Miller wanted to shoot the film using 3D cameras and spent three years developing cameras small enough and tough enough to work in the desert. But 3D doesn't give you much flexibility in the way you shoot. The cameras only had a range of five f-stops and lighting in desert was looking to be nightmarish. So Miller scrapped the 3D and went 2D. That's when Seale suggested an all digital approach. The small size of the cameras allowed them to cover multiple angles and the cameras can take the desert environment. (Miller and Seale used the cameras from Skyfall to shoot much of the film.)
Also going all digital allowed Miller's film colorist to create the orange and blue color scheme of the film. And it later made it easier to regrade the film to black and white.

Fantastic idea. Only there's not much in the way of the film department, so it'd probably be 95% video game, 5% film, with an unhealthy (healthy) amount of Ecco material, along with a lot of the classics across the VGM spectrum. And definitely Newman's Finding Nemo / Dory scores on the film side of the moon.
Those are the highlights, or the majority, at least.

FINALLY watched the trailer to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Looks fun.
A lot better than the previous remakes of all the same story.
SO glad there's no goblin. God that was tiring.
Spidey can change the shape of his eyes to demonstrate cartoony emotion.
His suit is very mechanical.
It comes off mechanically like Iron-Man's technology.
But those eyes.
There has to be sensor nodes and relays in there to react to his actual facial movements to make the mask change the eyes.
Otherwise, it's just stupid since most of the Spider-Man movies have kept the suit practical.
The first Spider-Man getting mutated and actually shooting web, is comic magic.
The second Spider-Man relying on Batman technology is practical and grounded.
Eyes shifting is magic. Like Doctor Strange magic if they don't show how he does that.

Great, Woody Harrelson. I'll never hear the end of it from my mom about it.

She HATES Harrelson. Always cocky, childish, a bully, and doing Natural Born Killers didn't help either.
I like him. I think he's great.
Some roles I don't like because he carries on too much like Negan in The Walking Dead.
College frat with a lot of daddy issues.
Some of his bad guys roles are intolerable.
Other times he does just right to be the bad guy.

It's embarassing how awful DC became after Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. They clearly don't know what makes Marvel the money maker and often just miss the point of the characters. BvS was entertaining enough for my tastes, but it was undeniably bad. Didn't even bother with SS.
And MoS? Made me want to die.

It's as simple as making a good fucking script and a good fucking editing/montage. These are two simple fundamental steps that make a movie. Warner lacks that with their DC movies. If one of them fails, the movie is bad, but if they both fail.. nothing saves them
HunterTech
12-14-2016, 02:07 AM
The editing is especially offensive. While there had been bad DC scripts in the past, the editing was at least basic. Now? "We always have to have the audience's attention, so we'll cut a lot of stuff out and insert "fancy" visual tricks to make it seem more energetic." SS was a particular offender in this.

MoS in hindsight has become the least offensive of the bunch, but it's still pretty guilty. Shouldn't have handed Snyder the actual camera.
BvS had to have the worst pacing ever. That first hour felt choppy as fuck, and then the second half was rushed.
Now, someone tell me what the fuck this is. (

I disagree with you (somewhat) when it comes to MoS, but at least MoS was watchable. I didn't watch all of BvS, but from what I saw it was a cluttered, nonsensical mess. I'm also a huge Batman fan so I was of course pissed when he began murdering people. But regardless, DC clearly has no idea what makes Marvel so popular. Like yes, there are people that hate Marvel films, but at least they TELL A COMPETENT STORY.

Hmm.

Just realized Fox has been releasing digitally in the form of singles the songs of Family Guy, here's some of them so far: Family Guy Main Title, A Bag of Weed, The FCC Song, I've Got a Little List, Friendship Is the Best Thing Ever, Down's Syndrome Girl, You've Got a Lot to See, You and I Are so Awfully Different. I've found them on Qobuz. Seems like each month they release two, and the last two are to be released in two days and in December.
This is exciting! There's a LOT of Family Guy songs rendition that deserved a release somehow, even if it's digital. This is amazing, I hope Fox has plans to put them all into an album in 2017 because I'll buy it, even if it's digital only!

Not so far! If anyone loves the show too and want to be generous, they are in iTunes in AAC 256, and in Qobuz in 16bit FLAC (and with some, 24bit Hi-Res FLAC too!)

Does that include the Extended edition?
I have no idea what's new in the extended.
I've never watched the Theatrical cut.

I'm still in shock that Johannson's Sicario was nominated last year even though it was a horrible noise on loop except for the last track, which I'm convinced was performed by mandrakes.
Arrival has one or two interesting moments in it, as least. Maybe I should give it another listen.

I've not seen Arrival. I haven't heard the Richter piece; I'm assuming it's practically the opposite of this, and more memorable to boot (given the score has been deemed ineligible by AMPAS). And I'm not really down on Jhannsson's approach. Based on what I've read about the plot, this repackaged and reassembled Steve Reich may be entirely appropriate. But it's nothing to new to me. Maybe to someone born last year or who never listens to anything recorded before 2000.

I think these meds are making me sensitive.
Or maybe it's a caffeine rush/crash/overdose.
But I was eating dinner while watching:
Ash VS Evil Dead, season 2, episode 9: "Home Again"
And it made me cringe and queezy. :erm:
That never happens to me. I've never turned away from violence or sick humor.
But this show, man, it's hitting all the right buttons.
I can watch Bones and eat at the same time.
I can even watch real surgery and eat. Botfly birthing and eat.
I'm so glad they decided to stick with mostly practical effects for Ash VS Evil Dead.
It really sets the atmosphere and tangibility of danger.
