Yeah, Warner Bros. is extremely protective, I was told back in 2013 that Hans said Man of Steel was locked away in their vaults, but it leaked, and that was obviously very bad because of what happened afterwards.

The studio owns the rights to both the script and the score (and everything else lol). I'm still not 100% sure how it works and correct me if I'm wrong, but since Disney is the studio that now owns the films, do they not own the rights to the scripts and scores?

A friend of mine interviewed Joseph Trapanese 2 years ago and he himself said this. The composer does not own the rights to his/her music. The studio does. Fox (now Disney, I guess) owns Williams' Star Wars work, WB owns all Harry Potter material, Universal owns Howard Shore's rejected King Kong score, and so on.

Yeah I figured that may have been the case, I don't know how it works when studio A buys a film franchise from studio B. Does WB or MGM own the right to The Wizard of Oz or Gone With the Wind? I have no clue. But that's cool about the box set. I doubt we'll get anything new though. They're probably just looking to cash-in on the release of TFA.

just finished episode 2 of Ash VS Evil Dead.
slow series. decent action.
but worst actors ever. not even intentional bad like the series is known to be cheesy.
the series is known to be cheesy, but this is not that. this isnt even budget constraints either.
you can always find a better actor who will work for cheap.

some really long shots just for sake of giving the composer time to play off his action music.
i don't buy a lot of the scenes were they all just stare and scream while the deadites have more than enough time to kill.

i'm waiting for next episode where lucy lawless joins.
maybe it'll pick it up more.

i would really like to see this spin into something where it's all in Ashes mind and he's really just a serial killer and there are no deadites or anything.
the whole past experience with the book in the previous movies warped his mind and he's just killing people and making up scenarios to play out his fantasy.
that would be worth watching as a series finale.

I remember reading a post a while back about why The Hobbit's music was muddy, and why so many people
tried to fix it. If I recall, the reasoning was that it was a result of the recording artist and that it was his profession
to use ancient Mics and Vaccume Tube Amps in Abby Road studios to achieve his "desired sound".

One thing I have noticed, an easy way to spot Abby Road Recordings, is that the method used leaves
dither/harsh silence at the top of the frequency spectrum. All three of these were recorded at Abby
Road Studios. Each a few years apart.

SVP 4 officially comes out around Nov 9.
Fully updated and optimized.
It should be easy to watch the whole movie like that.
Using a 720p encode should help it to run smoother. Unless you got a super rig witch unlocked CPU (the more physical cores, the better).

Forgive my ignorance, but what's SVP? And how can it convert a movie shot at 24fps to 60fps? How is that physically possible?

---------- Post added at 06:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 AM ----------

Currently watching the Marvel movies leading up to the Avengers and all the others to follow. I love the movies, but the comic books are Gawd awful. Yeah, I said it.

I agree with you - from what I've seen of the comics, they look horrendous. But the movies are fantastic. I've currently worked my way up to Thor: The Dark World, so that's the next movie I'll be watching. Then I need to watch more of Agents of SHIELD.

It's getting really good - I'm beginning to think something matrix-y was going on with Phil in Tahiti....

Smooth Video Project

I could tell you.
But, I'd rather do it in a song!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelll--

look here, it explains better:
https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Main_Page

Using "Avisynth" and several plugins created for it, video frames get duplicated and interpolated witch each other.
A | B
interpolated to...
Aa | ab | bB

SVP 3.x versions allow complete customization if you don't know how to use avisynth yourself.

This can be achieved with just the plugins, but you have to know all the parameters to input of what you're tweaking.

Avisynth can be very complex for script writing.

The current "Free" version of SVP has severe limitations and settings can't be changed.

Whatever clip you saw of the docking scene done in 60fps can be achieved with SVP or other avisynth plugins/scripts.
Or even some expensive software for video editing.
Adobe After Effects has a plugin that warp time. It warps playback speed to achieve slow motion, mostly.
But can be used to make HFR content. Albeit, fake-HFR.

Another software that can be used is "The Foundry" which has much more complex setup for interpolating to HFR.
When the very first trailer for The Hobbit: AUJ came out, someone used the Foundry to create a 48fps trailer.

The cheapest solution is to use avisynth.

Avisynth is free under license.
SVP is an interface that does all the hard work for you (with lots of different features) but will not be free for Versions 4+.
And this all legal due to the license agreements selected, as long as those agreements are respected (which they are; unlike some freeware media players that break license agreements).

Science!
Science and technology make the world less blurry. :smrt:

I'm waiting for SVP 4 to officially release before converting some scenes of Interstellar and other movies.

Oh, SVP can work with MPC-HC, but requires other things like FFDShow installed.
That's how you can watch whole movies on your PC.

And Oh, PC only (so far).
They're working on Mac and Linux solutions, but will require much more time.
Since Avisynth is mainly a Windows solution.
There's a port of avisynth for Linux, but it's vastly forgotten and not so updated.
There's no real port for Mac OSX systems.
I suspect SVP developers might be looking to use Vapoursynth or something in the future.

With the right settings, it can be super smooth with less artifacts.
As interpolating to higher frame rates will always cause distortion and artifacts on some scenes.

I might also add that it definitely enhances any 3D veiwings.

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
11-08-2015, 01:56 PM
Here's a very short example of what "interpolating" can achieve.

I used SVP to do these.

Godzilla intro, just the nuke from the titles.
Remuxed from bluray. Cropped to 1920x800. Or something. 804? 800... It's still 1080p.

Original frame rate: 23.976 (24000/1001 = 23.97602397602398)
0min 16sec
https://youtu.be/M7xyPpWEwMs

Interpolated to 59.94 (60000/1001 = 59.94005994005994)
0min 16sec
https://youtu.be/cnFjbKsuzxY

Looks faster, but it's still in same "relative" speed since the original audio will still synch with this new 59.94fps version.
Simply speeding up video will not work since audio will no longer synch.

To see the details, I interpolated 23.976 to 59.94 but set it to play back at 23.976!
Doing this will cause the video play back in slow motion.
Audio will no longer synch.
But, the point of this video is to show the slow motion so you can view the details in each frame as it progresses.
0min 39sec
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUk8fkZM1Ng
This is how slow motion scenes are filmed in films, too. Film at 72fps for a nice scene in Interstellar then run it back at 24fps to get a nice slow motion scene without judder or anything.
The sound department makes everything work, even if they have to create new sounds or add more to create plausible details.
Or just mute it for a nice effect.

Still not convinced of HFR interpolating smoothness?
I interpolated 23.976 (original fps) to a wopping 599.40 fps!!! (600,000 / 1001 = 599.4005994005994)
That would be extremely fast-looking and probably not play right at all. Nearly every frame will drop in playback.
But, I played it back in 23.976 fps which makes it play back in extremely slow motion.
2min 35sec
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMxqabdMIzw
catch every detail with this and double-check/triple-check your scans.

I do want to see Mr. Holmes!

But for me Tomorrowland was disappointing. I still enjoyed it overall but it was not even close to what I was expecting. Plus the tone was all over the place! It went from fun sci-fi, to just plain kiddish, to "let's save the earth!".... Just a weird mix of tones that didn't work together at all.

I have no idea about the scores of the sequels. I've not seen or heard anything from them. I don't know if the score of them is good. You mean to tell me DragonHeart 3's score is done by computer? That's really amateurish. I know it's direct to video, but hell. The DragonHeart sequels are promoted a lot. There's a fourth in the works, also. Thanks, DAK! Right on time this morning. I missed my second train and had to get the next one, so I've had to come straight to my midday lecture instead of back to my flat first.

Guys, just look at these pretty pincel tests of Frozen;

Anna: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIQdpjzOUa0
Kristofferson 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4haFGU-sbk
Kristofferson 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBPzC2scwOM

They're so pretty and full of life!!

Also, take a look at this; a test of the proposed WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE movie that Disney wanted to do, this test was done by John Lasseter in 1983, the first test of a 2D character in a CGI world. Very nice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvIDRoO8KnM

I don't think the DVD had them, I mean the DVDs are now almost empty of extras in favour of the BD, and the Frozen BD was very lucklusting in extras. Probably I shared them here before. :P

rutracker is trying to decide what to do. they might delete thousands of torrents (possibly start to block new torrents).
They got threatened by the music associations recently.
If you sign in there, the big red box in Russian can translate to something about the current status they're thinking of changing.

That movie transferred very well to bluray.
I love how it appears in several games all the time. The birdcage restaurant.
Best bluray purchase for several Hong Kong flicks I've bought. Quite a few of Jet Li's older movies, like Black Mask, is in English only for North American bluray distribution. :disgust:

I really need to upgrade my bluray for Olympus Has Fallen.

I think the USA/Sony distribution is best.

Darkness falls across the land
The midnite hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'awl's neighbourhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller
Can you dig it?!
