But he's not going off on some random tangent like sparktank does.

I will never forget seeing The Dark Knight on opening night. July 18th, 2008. The line wrapped around maybe 3 or 4 times and they let us in the theatre like an hour and a half before showtime. My parents, their freinds from church, my brother, a friend of ours and myself. 10 of us. I remember being floored by what I had just seen. I saw it 4 additional times after that. It was the first time I'd seen a film in IMAX. The 5th was on July 19th, 2012 - BB and TDK leading up to the midnight release of TDKR.

Man, it must have been awesome for one to have seen the whole trilogy in a theater for a night.

You're surprised? No one is truly dead in GoT unless you see them die. On screen. With sword through heart or axe through neck.

And even then, as Jon Snow proved, dead is never really dead. (Provided you have a Red Priestess as part of your support network.)

For me, it was always a case of "when", not "if."

Yep! Also, sometime yesterday or last night (depending on the differing time zone in France), the 101st and 82nd Airborne Division were landing hours before the main invasion force.

Cannot really make a top of them all, I think I'm happy and they all are good to me, but mostly, Inside Out, and Tomorrowland.

Currently listening to "Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag)" sung by Julie Andrews. Very beautiful song.. very moving. Walt Disney's favourite song.. that said so many things about him and his way of life. A masterpiece of a song.

Hmm.. so WaterTower Music launches Game of Thrones music in the US of all the seasons.. most in crappy editions. Now, the wonderful Varese Sarabande releases GOT soundtracks 1 to 4 in Europe.. wonderful releases, as expected from VS.. and Season 5, in Europe is now by Sony Classical. Now, I like Sony Classical.. as much as Varese Sarabende, but to my OCD to have one last different label is kind of weird. I dunno. I'm accostumed to see Varese in all of the soundtracks, and now Sony Classical. So weird.

First episode of Game of Thrones wasn't bad. The sex and gore isn't that explicit or exagerated, but then again this is just the first episode, it might get worse as they go, but I don't find them as bad when I think it's just being highly realistic with the setting. HUGE digipacks

They're slowly getting rid of those and introducing slim packs.
Identical discs, but no map included nor fancy box.
Definitely much cheaper, though.

The first 3 seasons also got remastered audio for people who spent money on Dolby Atmos receivers.

I've not yet sat through and listened to the remixing on a 5.1 system.
It should be more discreet for even a 5.1 sound system. More pronounced sfx and immersive environments.
The video got a lowered bitrate transfer to accomodate the new 7.1 audio. Quality difference should be visually negligible. You'd really have to sit through both versions and watch for differences.
Doubtful the music will get anything outstanding in Atmos. Even with stems. It's not like it was created by digital music. And the composer probably didn't have to worry about surround sound, being a TV series.

I know a lot of shit about music being created in mono and stereo.
But there are still instances where music CAN be created for surround sound.
Quite a few recent movies got music created with 7.1 in mind and shows discreet surround sound. There is proof of that.

most in crappy editions

What makes them crappy? Different master? 8bit audio?
OCD is overrated.
Take a magic marker and cross out subjectivity in your dictionary.
Objectively, they should be the same audio. The cases and cosmetics shouldn't mean anything. Just simple variables.
If you do get into buying the blurays, you're going to waste your life thinking about all the variables, considering there's 3 versions to choose from for season 1.

Original, thick release with map.
New slim cases without map (but cheaper).
Dolby Atmos (import at local stores or order online for this)

The series gets more progressive with sex and violence. They have to cater to fan service of those who like it. Not entirely for the sake of just having it.
It's an R-rated series. So they do R-rated things. HBO has always catered to sex and violence for ratings. There's a large audience that enjoys it, whether it's partial to the storyline or not.
True Blood is by far the biggest commercial product to sex and violence.
I admit, some of the nudity in GoT is for pure shock value. They want innocent people to go "oh my stars" when you see something on-screen so suddenly.
I admit, I like the violence in the show. You get numb to it all the more you get into the series.

I'd normally go for the digipacks - but they're HUGE and I lack the space to hold them anywhere. They're pretty, and as you said, don't have Atmos audio, so they have less video compression, which is better for me, although I'm pretty sure the difference is not very noticeable. Besides. It's not like I can make use of the Atmos audio anyway. The only thing I like about Atmos is that it's stored in DolbyTrueHD which, for some reason, I like more than DTS-HD MA. It's stupid. Just another silly personal preference. The steelbooks would be a good choice because they are smaller (the size of a normal BD more or less), prettier kind of, but as you said, have compressions in video for an audio I won't get to experience. But would be the best choice just for reasons of storage.

Nothing, really, they sound the same - it's just personal favourite label preference. Design wise too maybe. I just like more how Varese did the designs for the releases. Sony Classical is one I like too, it just looks weird, the change of disc design style and all, but overall, it's not a thing that'd stop me at getting the soundtracks, anyway, and the Varese and Sony Classical spins are almost similar. I was talking about the soundtracks, in this.

I watched the first episode last night out of curiosity to see what the deal's about - and I didn't seem to see anything that'd make me go WHAT THE FUCK. Like I could stand it, nothing really weirded me out as much as expected, although there were some initial content. I've never been a fan of the "extreme" but honestly I got hooked up to the story and I'm kind of looking forward to see how it continues sometime. It will probably get worse.. but I think, if the story is good enough to hook me up, like you just said, I'll be able to stand it with no problem. I was thinking all of the stuff isn't so bad when you think it's not forced as much - it's just being realistic of the setting, really.

DolbyTrueHD

It's free to decode. FFMPEG/LAV has been able to decode it for a long time.
For decoding DTS-HD MA formats, it was tricky and annoying with a lot of hacking to do. Even then, you weren't guaranteed you got the right version of the codec.
Now that we have dcadec, the only thing left to decode is DTS Express formats.

If Audacity can ever update to newest FFMPEG code, then everyone can import bluray DTS (and not just the lossy DTS core).
Importing TrueHD is the easiest, as it's been implemented for a long time. It's effortless.

Just finished watching 10 Cloverfield Lane.

You can really tell it was meant to be its own movie. Not at all related to the first Cloverfield movie. It leaves so many questions and keeps everything vague. Cheap Hollywood antic to slap a copyright name on a product to fill seats.

It would have been way better with the original script as a non-Cloverfield movie.

May I ask how it's forced connection to Cloverfield actually affects the movie outside of title? From what I hear, it's still is very much it's own thing, with only one reference that barely connects to the first. I think it's neat for there to be a franchise with an anthology angle to it, after Halloween unfortunately wasn't allowed to continue with it. So much for trying to be unique.

Just finished watching X-Men (2000) for the first time in at least a decade. I was reminded that, despite a pedestrian script and a narrative in too much of a hurry, it still remains an entertaining film with good performances from Stewart, McKellan and Jackman. And, oh yeah, the negligible score by Kamen. It really could have used a score with greater presence.

When you transform an entire product to be a bi-product of something else, rewrites and possibly reshooting is expected to make more connections.

But, it's an entirely different species of aliens.
They're no longer parasitic. No one gets infected and hosts a baby alien to explode all over the place like the first.
UNLESS these aliens evolve, which have no indication of any mutation.
Instead, there's just a gaseous infection and burns.

You can't just evolve the aliens or say "new aliens" showed up without any exposition that they're connected or show signs of progress.
All we had was the delusions of the psycho John Goodman. He was a broken character that makes for a broken narrator. We can't trust what he says, even after we find out he's lying. It still doesn't prove or justify anything.

It just got a major reboot with a brand new mythos to the alien species.
Had they delayed it and did some rewriting and reshooting, they could have put in some solid connections to directly reference the first film.

It's a good movie if you don't think of the first one.

Had they not slapped the Cloverfield lunchbox sticker on it, it would have never gotten the wide release it did. One week in theaters and straight to video faster than they can reboot E.T. the Extra-terrestrial.

I was always under the impression that one rerecording made it to the teaser. "The Planet Krypton" sounds different in my head in the teaser, even though it's the same as original and the actual redone recording also sounds different. At least one made it to the La La Land release. I wouldn't be so sure about the Blu-ray, but I do have it, so I can always check.

I don't get the new-age humor going on in movies these days.

I think Channing Tatum started it.
A lot of the jokes by Melissa McCarthy and Channing Tatum are like run-on sentences and stumbling on extended jokes.
It's not really dry humor, but it doesn't go anywhere. There's no definitive punchline. It's like "abstract" humor. Highly improvised.
Will Ferrel and his team will do it often. To the point where they make multiple movies of Anchorman, but with Anchorman, they have a higher success rate of delivering a joke and the audience knowing when the joke is finished.

Ryan Reynolds might do a million zingers and one-liners, but he actually has a punch line in there were the joke is coherent.

Actually, put Anchorman into the coherent section, too. Brick might make a lot of dumb jokes, but they at least have an ending.
Melissa McCarthy seems like she's getting paid by the joke.

Fuckin' pissed me off when Disney injected that sort of humor into Star Wars. I thought the franchise could sink no lower after the fart joke in Episode I.

But Poe Dameron meeting Kylo Ren... "So, uh, who's gonna talk first? Me or you? We just gonna sit here? A-hur-hur-hur!"
The Disney buyout is going to kill Star Wars in more ways than one.

Not as bad as some other humor which they show 24/7 in almost every single film trailer made after 2010.

The way they put it in The Force Awakens is one of the best ways you can, it pisses me off in trailers most.

But I think it'll do fine because there's way more people out of internet than we think, and nostalgia sells. I know lots of people who want to see it. Me included. If it results to be shit then I'll shit on it too, but not a year before it releases.

:rofldata: for me, that was funny. but it did feel like it was out of place. They could have cut the joke out entirely and it wouldn't impact the movie.
But, I think they kept RDJ's joke in to get all the seats wet. Which is what they need to keep them coming back.
They could even just have the first half of the joke and then cut away before the followup.

There's quite a few jokes that could be cut out from the franchise to hasten the pace. More just keeping continuity with the story rather than breaking away for a Family Guy cutaway gag.

It took me 22 Jump Street to find 21 Jump Street funny. I had to get used to the formula for their run-on gags.
It seems like their jokes are meant more for trailer apearances than the movie.
Or youtube clips for promotional material.

There was another movie I was watching recently and it had out of place humor...

Participation in the Internet erodes some people's sense of proportion. Everything is either the "bestest" ever or an epic fail.

Personally, Ghostbusters 2 was okay. It's not the worst movie or sequel. It pales because the first film set such a high bar and the sequel didn't come close.

If folks get this agitated over a movie, then real life must kick their ass from the moment they wake to the moment they go back to bed.

We never had anyone to clean up the city of paranormal activities back then.
No Hellblazers or anything. Mostly just exorcists.
The most "qualified" paranormal investigators were really just beat cops or detectives on a case that happened to be related to the occult or paranormal.

Ghostbusters was the first real paranormal investigators with cool gadgets and neat lingo.
With an awesome soundtrack.

It was also great animation work on part of the blasters. The spectres and ghouls were done very well, too.
Poltergeist really set a standard in ghosting graphics.

There were a number of smaller movies and indie projects. I'm sure there's dozens of B-movies. But Ghostbusters really stood out the most.
The casting choice and writing for the characters did play a lot, but the other things really built up for it, too. It was definitely unique.
The Ecto-1 was especially well liked. I used to play with my brothers toy of it all the time.

I'll never forget the hallway scenes. I think that movie was one of the major influences on some repeating environments in my dreams.
Sometimes, I'll dream about being in a huge apartment building, really old and very dead. I'd spend what felt like hours trying to find my through the halls.
There's probably a few other movies where the halls had an impact on the apartment building complex for some dream environments. I used to live in apartments a lot whenever I lived with my dad, so that also contributed to the dreams.

But suspense in that scene was exhilarating when I was a kid. HUGE fan of Slimer. Biggest moment in part 2 was seeing him again.
It was also right when they did a reel change and you can see when the reels flickered out and the audio also rattled off to the next reel.
It was a small, cheap theater in a small, small town so it had its charms.

All the torrents should be replaced with the "Remastered in 4K" series from Sony by now.

Which, for first-time buyers, is the best one to get. Actually, it is the best one to get.
By the time Sony started the Ri4K line, most fans had already bought the movies on VHS, DVD (several times) and on bluray.
The first release on bluray wasn't so great and when people bought it again Ri4K, they saw the immediate difference.

Elmer Bernstein's score really shines in the movie.
The commercial music really gives a cinematic experience. There's one song in the first movie that really sounds like it's meant to bounce off the walls of the theater.
The second movie does this again with another song that serves as the start of the climax of the movie. Different beat, but equally thrilling.

I think The Walking Dead on bluray is the only thing I get first day in stores.

I'm honestly sorry. I tend to get frustrated easily sometimes. I keep forgetting that opinions are opinions, so I tend to challenge one quite halfheartedly, out of lack of thinking. Lord knows the amount of people that I haven't come across as appealing to in the comment section of YouTube (though it's never a place you want to be in nowadays). I was trying to stick out, which should never be a thing one should try to do. Just be honest and things will go fine. Being 16 and autistic isn't the appealing thing, but it's where I currently am.

Also, to me, farts are just noise. It's nothing more than that. Stop trying to convince me that there is actually comedic merit to it. It'll just put me in a bad mood.

I've come across mention that both Singer and Vaughn bailed because Fox ordered the film on short schedule and neither wanted to commit to a rush job. I am curious to know what, if anything, was left on the cutting room floor, because there are certainly a number of narrative gaps associated with the introduction of new characters (Shohreh Aghdashloo barely has any lines) and continuing development of pre-existing characters (Rogue's storyline is given cursory attention). And then, perhaps, the accelerated shooting schedule simply demanded condensing plot lines.

Didn't mention that both films have good, supporting scores. Neither are ever going to make any top-ten lists but at least both composers were allowed to embrace the melodrama and run with it.

I am curious to know what, if anything, was left on the cutting room floor...

Nothing too great, or, at least, there were no good deleted scenes on the DVD. I think there were one or two extra scenes with Rogue... but it was mostly just extra garbage.
