It was mine, too. But like everyone here (should) know by now - I have high expectations for everything. It's a problem. And being Phantom, I had even higher expectations. I thought I'd really like it. And then it came to an end and I said "there's 3 hours of my life I'll never see again" lol.

But like I said, at least the music is nice. I listen to Overture and Angel of Music all the time.

I grew up listening to the Original Broadway Cast CD (1987 London) for Phantom.

The difference was huge between the Broadway versions (any) and the film.

The film has set designs, costumes and orchestra for the music.
But some of the vocals need work. Butler cannot vibrato. Nor could Russell Crowe when he did Les Miserables.
Russell Crowe got better the more he went through the film. His finale is actually his best part where he gives it all he's got to sing.
But early on, Crowe and Butler are monotonous when it comes to holding a note. Very linear in waves.
More like the Canadian cast for the stage version of Phantom: no vibrato there either.
I've not finished all of Phantom movie so maybe nearer the end, Butler gives a triumphant finale like Crowe did for Les Miserables.

The stage productions of the musical vary greatly in orchestral performance.
Anything before the 21st century has a lot of synth (like 80's Zimmer synth; Ross Geller synth) so you have to be in the mood for it.
Anything modern (anniversary versions) include electric rock guitar into the scores (like Zimmer & Johnny Marr electric), which really throws you off. But the orchestral music is vastly improved over the synth demos from earlier renditions.

It's a hard mix and match for me.
I love movie musicals because they use bigger orchestras and real instruments.
But find it hard to get past the no-vibrato talents because it's easier to get an audience in when you throw big name actors into the mix.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still waiting to give the movie a full sit through.

Everything's all right

I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me

Lips as sweet as candy
It's taste is on my mind
Girl, you got me thirsty
For another cup o' wine

Got a bug from you girl
But I don't need no cure
I'll just stay a victim
If I can for sure

All the good love
When we're all alone
Keep it up girl
Yeah, you turn me on

I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me

All the good love

Two was my favourite to be honest, very dark and emotional, maybe I am biased towards that sort of thing. Like KFP2 actually took its time. KFP3 was basically a comedy rollercoaster and Po talked for 99% of the film.

Haven't actually heard that score, nor do I remember much from the film itself.
I'm promising you, I will listen to it, soon. I do have the complete score for it in
my iTunes, so there is that too.

I've listened to the scores for TCOTBP and DMC much more, partially because those scores are used in Lego POTC, and they always kind of stuck out more for me.

I thought the score for OST was alright, I have listened to the official album thoroughly, VERY THOROUGHLY, because it's
less than a damn half hour of score from the film: glad I have the sessions.

Well like most trilogies/franchises, the 1st film is always the best.

TDK trilogy, is really tough.
I love the first one so much. It establishes everything so well like KFP1.

I'm promising you, I will listen to it, soon.

There's so much great stuff in it.
Film and score: AWE is my favorite.
The shenanigans and games between everyone is exciting.
So many themes meshed into the film.
Singapore themes, Calypso's themes, Davie Jones still kicking around, and the epic battle where it all comes together with Swann/Turner themes included: "Now's Not The Time".
Also Beckett's finale is just sublime: "It's Just Good Business".

I mean. Wow. You can't get better than this.

The desert storm scene is really pretty.
That's something that would look amazing in IMAX 3D.

It doesn't matter if you've watched any of the previous movies. They're all unrelated.
And it doesn't matter if you get the story or not because it's incredibly vague.

I think Miller spent most of his energy working the CG and action scenes.

There's no exposition in the story. You just catch a line or two and guess what's really going on.
Did Max have a duaghter? Maybe. Or was that really his neice, girlfriend's daughter (not even married so not even "in-law" -- unless you're into that "common law" fake married crap), god-daughter, or whatever. Maybe Max was a school teacher and that was the very last kid that he lost from his classroom.
I don't remember if they ever say anything. Ghosts just appear and torment him without confirming anything.
Really they were made just for the 3D viewing.

The music is great. Really pay attention to the sound of the movie.

Enjoy Max's car while you can. It's i nthe film for one minute.

I think they dubbed all tracks on this.
The English track is obviosly dubbed.

But I think they made the entire track for Chinese in 100% Cantonese.
Yeah, it's the native language for Hong Kong films.
But, most of Chan's movies mix in: Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.
Some times there's other languages if that's the movie. I think they did some movies with Russian and German characters, so they had them speak their native language, etc etc.

But no movie is 100% one language.

The Cantonese track is off for some scenes where they had the actors actually speak a different language.
I wish I had the VCD version around still to confirm.

I like the Kung Fu Panda series in general, but I think the message the first one tried to send was horrible. The "you can do anything if you believe in yourself" idea. No you can't. You get to where you want to be in life through hard work and damn good luck. And even then sometimes that's just not enough; sometimes you have to settle for less.

I much prefer the Monsters University/Lego Movie moral: find what you're good at and do your fucking best at it, even if it means not being a super-star.

Glad to hear it. I thought 2 was kinda disappointing.

Agreed. It should have, based on the story and plot, been the best. But while individual pieces were very good, those pieces did not mesh into a cohesive whole.

I attribute this to two root causes: first, Lord Shen was a weak villain, like Anakin way too whiny and bratty. Villains can be portrayed in many ways but few people, unless you're Kevin Smith who thrives on the whine, like their bad guys to be semi hysterical. Kai, KFP3's big bad, was far more in line with Tai Lung, both characters expertly voiced by J.K. Simmons and Ian McShane, respectively.

Second, Po wins the day - duh, he's the hero - by being Po: anarchic, irreverent - at least to the bad guys - and chaotic. Those qualities wasn't employed in KFP2.

And this is one colorful film. I mean the palette really pops. Must have driven Dreamworks' server farms to its knees.

P.S. there's a running gag with Tigress in the film's third act, which is meta in regards to her being voiced by Jolie. Watch for the voice credits.

Variety reports that KFP3 will earn around $41 million, the lowest of the three films on their opening weekends. Of course, what matters is the total box office when the film ends it run. The film, as far as I know, doesn't face any animated competition until Zootopia or Zootropolis, depending where in the world you reside, opens in March.

Apropos competition, word is Captain America: Civil War is testing, in the words of one website, "through the roof." And apparently unlike that bogus review of B vs S on Reddit, the site checked with five sources and it claims the test audiences are saying its better than CA: TWS.

And those same sources say the film's third act is dark.

Hmm, so maybe those rumors about Crossbones killing Cap are true.

Zootopia (Zootropolis here) opens February 12 for me; and over February, you're right, opens in a few places of the world. I would guess they are gonna premiere it in March because they have no competition there. The movie is already done.

I only like it because, in terms of substance, there's a lot more "there" compared to Shrek or Madagascar or just about any other Dreamworks film. The aggressiveness of Tai Lung, Shen's panda genocide... there are legitimate reasons that these bad guys are bad. As opposed to, say, the Penguins of Madagascar where the octopus felt inadequate and it made him evil.

I don't care for Po at all; it's the bad guys I see these films for. :169:

There's NEVER a need for any film. And to say "All the studios care about is money" if fucking ridiculous. Of course they care about money, IT'S A BUSINESS! And just like any other business, their main priority SHOULD be money.

Studios want all their movies to be good. They never set out to make a bad movie and they do care about the final film, even if it is a "cash grab" (another argument I won't go into). Saying a studio cares all about the money and not their film is like saying "Steve Jobs only cared about the money and not the products."

Originality is something else I wont go into because I share the "unpopular opinion" when it comes to film and originality.

Undertale is phenomenal. Honestly, even if you despise video games, you'll love Undertale.

Definitely.
These great throwback games today (Undertale, Shovel Knight, Cave Story, etc) are built off of the classics of the past...

And into the legend...

Heck, if I could draw, I'd fanboy all over my favourite YouTubers by smapping their PO Box with fanmail.
Honestly. I would.
Gee, I don't know... I find reading boring. I really do.
The only books I've ever read have been when Diary of a Wimpy Kid was super popular.

But one day I will be able to play 'em fully.

PS - here's the original audio file from the site (https://mega.nz/#!zRFxyZIK!VNKZXbKO9y18-pYrTot1Km6ndo2zl9td1mDY9OetTqQ). No clue what the source track is, though, it's probably some obscure production music.

Stopped watching The Ghost Writer (2013). It's 2am and my buddy was falling asleep, so we're gonna have to finish it tomorrow sometime. It's not a pleasant movie, but it's as intriguing as I was hoping it to be, and it's nice being so familiar with Desplat's score already. Looking forward to getting to the bottom of the mystery tomorrow...

It's shot really well. Loving the colour-grading and lighting.

Hey brother thank you so much I really appreciate your input is that audio file from the YouTube video or from the original site back in 2000 one? The song was also used in the trailers for the Glasshouse movies. So I'm wondering whether this was reused music from movie scores or just the productions track or at least where Sony would find or use their production tracks? It's a really mysterious and neat track Scott really serious tone to it name like that about it. Thanks for the contribution and the help if anyone else around here knows of that song feel free to spread the word:-)

There are dozens, hundreds of production music companies. The library this particular cue came from may not even exist anymore.

I ripped the cue straight from the WayBack Machine archive of the website. It's the exact same file you heard playing in 2002.

Now I understand why the standard for brick-walling is what it is.
It's not because there's a "loudness war"

It's because it's addicting.
