The Curse of the Were-Rabbit soundtrack is so damn good, it's so symphonic, so many good melodies. I only wish we knew who composed who in the soundtrack/score, since a lot of people worked on it, not just Julian Nott which almost gets all the credit. I wanna know who composed all the good parts. I think Nott just did all the themes and medleys. I'm adding it in the Amazon card to buy it whenever, it's good, and it's cheap, too.

Wish this one would get released in Blu-ray already. Dreamworks, release all of your catalogue left in the format already.

I didn't see the film when it was in theatres, but I do remember it came out, a bit mostly because it's featured in my childhood magazines that I read. Wish I had seen it back then, but I didn't go much to theatres because the loud noise of a cinema advert scared where a creepy 3D face would sing high opera and noises.. it scared me the crap out.. that was like this until like.. 2007 or 2008? Then I enjoyed the crap out of the cinema.

I definitely owned Curse of the Were-Rabbit when it came out. The funny thing is that the day after I got the film, the Kindergarten homework assignment had bunnies. Cue me annoyingly telling the class I own the movie, even though I was only pointing towards the picture of the rabbit, not actually telling them the name of the movie. I miss being 5/6, when the world was a mystery and something innocent.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Fury Road score - There are some shining moments here and there throughout the crazy action blasts, and the quiet cues really have such emotional depth it's incredible. But a lot of the crazy action stuff is just noise. But it's worth a listen for the gems hidden inside. If you don't wanna sit through the whole score, here are the cues I'd recommend (Deluxe Edition in mind here):

23 My Name Is Max (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C8I8wxZCis) - one of the most beautiful cues I've ever heard. Very emotionally deep strings. Really, really beautiful.
24 Let Them Up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEnBxqIYqL0) - the triumphant finale of the film. Uplifting and joyous.
12 Brothers In Arms (Extended Version) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xllG3fSUAOw) - although crazy and action-packed, there are a couple moments in this cue that never fail to give me goosebumps every time. Worth listening to on the biggest stereo you can find.

Is the score really that surround heavy?

It can be. It wouldn't require much for someone like Holkenborg to work it into a more dynamic surround sound mix.

The drums in the movie have a surround sound setting as the camera moves around a lot whenever the war band plays onscreen.

Music being surround sound is only what the composer does to the music. Most just write it and walk away.
You wouldn't think John Wick to be surround sound, but Tyler Bates actually made a solid effort in making use of all 7.1 speakers.
The main music can be heard in the front speakers, but he added differences to the other pairs of speakers.

A great example of a song that would go really with Atmos is Storm Is Coming. The pounding at 3:10 sounds fabulous in top-knotch headphones, I'd love to hear it in full Dolby Atmos!

Again I'll add Storm Is Coming to one of the most beautiful tracks in the film. Yet still action-packed and arguably the most dramatic song in the film it still has that gorgeous melody in at 4:00 ish, and within all that is one of my favourite scenes in the entire movie:

Man, is the first track so mixed. Like the parts that actually focus on the music are pretty good, if a bit too hip hop sounding for my taste. Unfortunately, there is a whole lot of sound effects and voice clips that you have to trudge through. It's the same issue I have with The Big Booya, though that at least has two solid minutes of awesome music. Thankfully, the rest of the EP is solid

I actually saw that one when it was in theaters. Despite how young I was, I still liked it.
But after re-watching it years later, and having seen the trilogy since, I found it to not be one with the best, but still an enjoyable view, a big part why, as you mentioned, is due to Jackman's performance.

It really did - it's one of the best scenes in the film. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HClM8YvNljo) (<-- 1080p clip right there - absolutely awesome, stunning cinematography, edge-of-your-seat action, and the colour palette is gorgeous!!)

Hm, I just watched that scene thanks to your linking, I hadn't seen anything from the movie at all - except this, and I gotta say, it's looking good. I hadn't been interested in the movie before watching this clip because massive action for no reason is not of my liking, but after watching this clip, I'm gonna put it on the list, I think it looks really good cinematically, although I don't know much about cinematography I can really tell the scene is well shot and done. And I think part of the whole movie is mostly practical effects than CGI which make it a bit more believable! I will be checking out this movie.

I too really love that score, despite not owning it yet! I had several parts recorded on an old cassette tape from many years ago. Sheer quality. Love it. :)

I have JUST, right now, began to LOVE IT and have it become one of my holy grails, even though I met the score last year, like the movie. Like I said I just love it because it has a lot of well-done melodies, it's brillianty orchestrated and has lots of orchestrated action just how I love it! :) I too will eventually buy the physical CD because it's so worth it. I can say I've put it on my Amazon chart. ;)

It's not you - loads of incredible film music is recorded here at Abbey Road, not too far from where I live.

I mean, I've began to notice how lot of good film score music, or any type of good orchestrations or orchestrated music tend to come, a lot, from either London Philarmonica, Abbey Road (mostly this one for movies) or the one John Williams used which I've forgot what was it. It can't be a coincidence music sounds GOOD in those places, is it?

Were-rabbit is miles below either A Grand Day Out or The Wrong Trousers.

Hmm.. definitely the two you mention had more cinematic and artistic value than Were-Rabbit, but Were-Rabbit also had a good script with round characters imo that really got you in the picture. I had a great experience watching this movie.

Also, I want to mention how I just watched the trailer for the newest Batman DC Animated movie; Batman; the Killing Joke.. I think script wise is gonna look fine, but is it me, or.. really the animation style doesn't fit for something that is suposed to be very adult since it's rated R? The animated style is very kids-like, the animation should be tougher and close to the drawings of the books, which were harder and tougher and fit more the dark storyline. A quick Wikipedia search tells me the original graphic story looks amazing, story wise, how are they gonna pull off such greatness in a direct-to video movie?

The irony is that I think they were trying to get the designs to look close to the book's. They should have let Timm just use his trademark designs; what they went with isn't very appealing at all to me.

I mean, with what I see in the trailer, compared to the dark, serious drawing tone of the comics.. the kiddy animation style doesn't marry with how serious the story is.

I'm excited for both, and when I was lil I never liked Finding Nemo. I always go see every Pixar movie with my bro but he really doens't want to see this one, for reasons I don't know he hates Finding Nemo. Finding Dory looks like a great sequel tho

for reasons I don't know he hates Finding Nemo.

Does he have an ex-gf that loved it?
Usually hetero males hate something because an ex-lover used to love it more than their egos.
For instance, from my generation, it's not uncommon to hear guys hating The Beatles with so much passion.
They never have an excuse or a reason.
Until that one time you see them vulnerable and they let it slip how much The Beatles meant to the girl he was dating at the time and, for awhile, even he had come to enjoy the melodies of The Beatles. How much fun they had singing along and doing goofy dancing when no one else was around. The private moments that photographs cannot caputre. The stillness of time. Until...

I found 2001 90% emperor's new clothes, I have to say.

Living in the 21st century, although I appreciate the cinematic marvel it was back in 1968, it has to have something else too. Take Star Wars as one example. Star Wars was so massively popular not just because it was a cinematic marvel but because it also had an appealing, original story that engaged the imaginations of its viewers. Watching it now in the 21st century is still great fun, despite the fact the CGI and effects are laughable compared to today's incredible stuff. Why is it still great fun to watch? Because it had substance behind the fancy technology. 2001 did not. It had so much potential and almost grabbed my attention in the middle with Hal, but it never quite fulfilled that potential. Instead, it went in the sad direction of "let's make sh*t up and go crazy so that the overly-philosophical groupies of the world now and in the future read an entire religion into our overly-vague, weird, inconclusive ending."

HAL 9000 is the best villain before Skynet came along.
You actually feel sorry when he dies at the end.

Just to re-emphasise, here's a computer singing Daisy Bell.

It's been printed to vinyl before. That recording is on vinyl. It was sold like any regular album.
But I can't really find any rips of the vinyl. :(

Also take into count that Peirce Brosnan voiced Hal before, as well as Calculon also did a whole stage play on Hal alone.
I wish there was a special feature of a read out of the entire play. :(

We've seen Genysis so many times by now. They tried to Days of Future Past the franchise which was a cute attempt.

They keep changing their minds on what to do with the franchise.

Spartacus is a family heirloom. My parents loved it when it first came out.
But, they're more Kirk Douglas fans than learning director's names.
Only after I started watching for names and got into The Shining and 2001 did my mom know Kubrick's name.
Although, after we watched it recently, my mom's kind of pissed at the ending. Not the "Im Spartacus" scene, but the fact that...
He didn't turn in the tramp and died for her.
Although, I told my mom it was more about him saving his unborn child. She took comfort in that.

...a lot of movies we re-watched turned out to be the usual story where the loveable male lead dies over a woman (most often a cheating tramp). :notgood:
She really hates infidelity stories with whores running around and breaking up familes and kingdoms.

Barry Lyndon is worth watching. Some really nice scenery.
The pace of the film really sets the mood. You really get a feeling for the character of what he goes through. It's like he paid attention to details not only in set and costume, but taking the time to really act it all out. In no way is it rushed. It's not condensed film-time like modern movies. Kubrick is excellent at establishing time in a film to make it realistic.
And some things you think about how those times used to be and start to feel that this movie is that.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is an insane comedy.
It is a parody of the times. But you also don't have to be a scholar to appreciate it.
To emphasize on that, Slim Pickens is in the movie. Great fun for the whole family.
But there are references in the film.

For extra fun with Kubrick, check out all the trivia pages for his films.
You'll be there all day reading more stuff behind than scenes for his films.

I have yet to finish watching his last film: Eyes Wide Shut.

And I barely remember Full Metal Jacket.
And there's a couple others of his I didn't see.

To change the pace, I'm watching (again) the tribute to space movies (originally on vimeo):

My mom would have loved it if he just ignored her and not tried to save her.
I think him dying was the biggest part.
She loves Gladiator because even though he dies, he still gets his revenge. We get to see Commodus die.
She really wanted to see everyone die in Spartacus. And she believes he could have done that or lived longer if he avoided her.

She's always been prejudicial towards women in movies in general.

:changspew: I remember her saying "No! Go the other way! Get away from her!"
We were watching The Jungle Book. Hahaha.

I think we desensitized ourselves a little too much with shows like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos.
There were a few times I would say someone's going to get shot in the back of the head during innocent movies.
I think one time we were watching To Kill A Mockingbird and I said something about Robert Ewell when he's taunting Jem at the car and Jem pulling a gun out.

The ending kind of depresses me.
I get he goes off to be a man and all. But it doesn't leave it open to interpretation that they intend on seeing each other again.
So long Baloo forever. Goodbye childhood. Time to put the stuff bear and plush panther away. No more toys.
Just hunt and breed. And teach your son to hunt. The bears. The panthers. The elephants.
Soon Man will have forgotten that it could once speak to the animals and the lands will be covered in blood and commerce.

:erm: I think I said that before already.

I prefer The Labyrinth. Happy ending for everyone. Even The Goblin King had a good laugh like he meant to teach her a lesson about family all along.

On the topic of women and ancient war times, I think I'm going to watch Troy (2004). The director's cut version. It's literally the only verison on bluray. I think that's the only one we had on DVD so I have no idea what the theatrical version is like anymore.
