"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster"
the newly remasterd bluray is severely mixed reviews.
On the one hand, the colors are more natural (although I didnt mind the oversaturated look of the previous release) and the details are back. And there's no blockyness in the backgrounds for flat areas (walls etc).
But on the downside, the black levels are severely crushed with no way to fix them.
If you increase the brightness or anything else (luma, contrast, gamma, etc) to restore the brightness, you will see nothing but smudge.
Their hair looks like it got smeared or smudged into black blotches. The hairline details are gone.
And for some scenes, it's really dark. Not like creeping around in shadows, but just pure dark.
The previous bluray is actually better.
Despite the new remaster being "Director Approved" (he needs his eyes checked).

I beg to differ. The old Blu-ray was absolutely awful. There's the 2007 release and then for the 2010 20th Anniversary edition, WB recycled the same exact disc - which has a line going down the screen during one scene. It was horrendous. I downloaded a 1080p rip a few weeks back (25th Anniversary edition came out in May), and it looks so much better imo. I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to. I do not own that film in any physical format, this is the version I've been waiting for.

The black crush is significant in it.
It's by far the worst black crush I've ever seen.
you can't recover from this one.
NOt even with any fancy editing.
The details are just lost in the black levels.

The blacks are going to get washed out (if you do anymore), and brighter scenes will become brighter.
There are other frames that just completely destroy the blacks in this. Some frames, you can't even recover the details.
You would need to go through every shot of the movie to see what you can fix and what you can't.
Hancock remaster is almost the same. Except you are able to recover a little bit without washing out the blacks (to grey).

The bluray should be a lot better.
A lot of tweaks with FFDShow to tweak the black levels, upscale to 4:4:4, using MadVR to render (using Jinc upscalers, also more gamma correction), and with SVP, the movie becomes much more watchable.
Now just to tweak SVP.
Also, I notice iTunes never puts fps info in the header file.
MediaInfo can read it, but it's more or less guessing the framerate.
Indexing it with anything, you have to specify the fps as it's not in the header.

After demuxing the movie with eac3to, the fps header got fixed and now it indexes properly with DGdecNV, which in turn, works much better in SVP!

Havent' listened, but going to resample.
Digital sales sites dont normally have real HD audio.
Most of it just tapers off and you can get away with resampling to lower denominations divisible by the HD format.
01-Bundle of Joy (24 bit / 96 kHz) [1920x1080]
Literally not much there. Can easily resample to 48 kHz (half of 96; going to 44.1 may cause artefacts or other weirdness since its not divisible by 96).
01-Bundle of Joy (24 bit / 48 kHz) [1920x1080]
01-Bundle of Joy (16 bit / 48 kHz) [1920x1080]
There was no clipping in the conversion from 24 bit to 16 bit.
I didn't convert all tracks, but I imagine it's safe to downconvert bit depth, too.
I really dont think you'll hear a difference from 24/96 and 16/48.
Which means the 24/96 is useless, doesn't matter how expensive your equipment is or how young your ears are.
It's great for editing suites and other mixes. But general listening, you're wasting your time and space.
I'll upload tomorrow. The public will eat it out of the palm of my hands.
"Let them eat cake".
And then I'll up a 16/48. Better for iTunes, portables, etc. ALAC, AAC.
"Let them have a feast in their honor!"

The archive was also converted using ancient FLAC library.
01-Bundle of Joy.flac
2 489 Kbps
libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)
50.5 MB (53,054,278 bytes)
re-converted with updated FLAC library:
01-Bundle of Joy-96-24b.flac
2 417 Kbps
libFLAC 1.3.1 (UTC 2014-11-25)
48.8 MB (51,198,874 bytes)
That's not a loss of bitrate. Nothing was actually lost.
VBR is always different. The newer FLAC library is more optimized so you can compress more with less.
Foobar2000 "bit-compare tracks":

For updating with eac3to, use the "libFLAC v.1.3.1 for win32" to update.
eac3to is a 32 bit program (x86). Even if you're using a 64 bit OS, you still need to use 32 bit libraries on a 32 bit program.
Developer has no plans to make a 64 bit eac3to (at this point).
Rename "libFLAC_dynamic.dll" to "libFLAC.dll"
and include the "libFLAC_dynamic.lib" file for more compatibility (but rename "libFLAC_dynamic.lib" to "libFLAC.lib to match "libFLAC.dll")".
You can find different builds of FLAC on the HydrogenAudio forums. There are some there compiled using GCC compiler, which is faster than Intel builds (the ones posted above).
There is even CUDA-enabled encoding of FLAC.
But I need to check up on that. Have not looked for an update to that in a long time.

Let me check, it seems I have, on the Brave folder, the original album soundtrack, and the FYC, 44 tracks, which has additional bonus track added by the edit which are album alternates. I dunno why I thought it was a complete edit, due to that. But isn't the FYC anyway pretty much complete?
As far as I know, the FYC is basically complete, yes. (

Is the hard to find Cast and Crew even more complete? Oh, it seems that it's just the same as the FYC.
Are they both mastered the same way, they sound the same?
Thanks, Sulley, I'll use that page to make my own edit. :D
The C&C is identical, except it also contains the La Luna cues by Michael Giacchino, like the TS3 C&C contained the Day & Night cues, also by Giacchino.
I badly want the cues to One Man Band by Giacchino. It's by far my favourite Pixar Short Film, especially the music. :D

North American blurays have AC3 only.
And 100 other audio language tracks.
The EUR or CEE bluray actually has TrueHD audio stream for English track.
I saw it in theaters. I think someone snuck alcohol, because theaters up here don't allow that unless it's a licensed theater.
But the risk of one adult buying for minors is enough to not even try to license a theater.
Someone was drunk and enjoying the film. Everyone could smell it.
Still worth it.
The theater we went to was a real IMAX theater, the only reason we went out that far for a movie.
So worth it.

i'm happy, go lucky, things come easy to me
and it's getting me down, i just wanner be six feet under ground.
i jumped from a bridge, but what i did not invisage
as i neared the ground, there was a tightening sound,
i caught my braces on the side of the fucking bridge.
and i shot up and down again twice,
i felt revitalised,
it was probably the best time i have had in all my fucking life.
oh yes, im happy go lucky.
things come easy to me, and quite frankly its getting me down,
i just want to be six feet under ground.
i tired cutting me wrists, i tired but i missed
i caught myself somewhere else instead,
in fact right between me legs,
i now i go and see a gynaecologist
and they tried to stich it back on,
but they did it all wrong,
and now it points in a funny direction,
no striaght up!!!
i'm happy, go lucky, things come easy to me
and it's getting me down, i just wanner be six feet under ground.

Who can agree with me that there should be a thread for all known slates from every single film score? Yeah, there's 2 other blogs on the topic, but how is there not one here on the shrine?
1. O.o I was listening to Kiss Breakdown around the time you posted this.
2. Why is everyone so interested in slates? I keep them listed on a separate log as a text file out of pure scruple but they look ugly when incorporated into the track name and each composer's preferred structure for slate assignment is different so they're kinda meaningless :P

Well, it'll most likely be like that. With one major difference: films that start with "The" will not be alphabetized under T. That is ridiculous. Whoever did it that way is a moron.
The thing that irks me is everyone seems to do it that way, even though it makes no sense.
And why exactly is this wrong exactly?

And why exactly is this wrong exactly?
Everything!
How many films out there start with "The"? more than anyone can count. When I wanna find slates for The Hunger Games or The Avengers or The Hobbit, I shouldn't have to go to T to find them. Cause then from there you gotta soirt through all the "The"s. And it just doesn't make sense.

I don't consider "the" to be a word that is necessarily part of the title. It's only there for grammatical purposes.
The Incredibles
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Wind in the Willows
In my mind I read the titles to those as
Incredibles
Amazing Spider-Man
Wind in the Willows
because the "the" serves no great purpose in the title.
You don't say "I'm going to watch some The Walking Dead episodes", you say, "I'm going to watch some Walking Dead episodes".
And so when things are alphabetized, I for one look for movie titles based on the first "real" word in the title.
Plus like DAK said, there'll be so many T's to sort through!!

Maybe they look ugly to you, but not others? Honestly I find that they help with organization. When I'm listening to any given score and I know the slate number, it's that much easier to find. Especially when its something huge like King Kong or something. And there's not that many different structures the composers use. The most common one is "1m1" or "1m01". I've seen some with zeroes and some without. Then there's "M101" or "M11". And then there's Howard Shore's version, the way LotR is tagged is beyond me.

If one were so bold to compile a list to have a lot for a first post, one could mistakenly create in the download section.
Everyone would see it (as most of them don't venture outside download).
Then I could move it. It would have a perminent redirect in the download section. So anyone looking there would end up in the right section and gain experience for discovering a new part of the Shrine.
It would need to have a lot posted to start off with to make it look like a solid thread.
I'll be somewhat busy today moving things around so there's a small window for that.
Unless someone reports the thread and someone else steps in, then you only have that window.
So make the first post count.
And then someone can add it to their signature later.

"The" is a definite article.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_articles#Definite_article
Alphabetizing articles and common words:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabetical_order#The_and_other_common_words
In real world, most people, especially the older they get, drop the common words and only use keywords when trying to remember.
My mom still calls them "those Terminator movies".
And then a few seconds later returns with "THE Terminator movies" to emphasize the correct title.
But she's only remembering "the" because she saw the first one in theaters that started the whole franchise.
She saw 2 in theaters, but it's really 1 that stood out the most to her since it was a completely new genre to her.
If it didn't have Arnold, she would have never watched it.
Removing articles for alphabetizing is like sorting for keywords.
If I go looking in my list to see if I have "The Final Destination (4)", I would look under "F" because I would want all the movies to be under "F" for the first "Final Destination" movie. Not all them in different parts of the list.
Movies like Star Wars and Star Trek do good by names for alphabetizing.
Die Hard almost did, but when it came to Die Hard 4.0, it got renamed to "Live Free or Die Hard". No choice but to split them up, unless you want to change the naming for sake of franchise exclusivity.
Die Hard
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
Die Hard 3: With A Veangence
Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard
Die Hard 5: A Good Day to Die Hard
Lists are all personal. Some people alphabetize by article words, some don't.
I prefer not to and change actual titles for sake of franchises.
But, sorting for external HDD's, I rename by year then movie title in their own folder for franchises.
F:\Series\Divergent Series\(2014) Divergent
F:\Series\Divergent Series\(2015) Insurgent
Not everyone knows what the Divergent series is. So if anoyne wants to watch them, they would know what order to watch them in.
External HDD's and bluray players have a limited number of free characters to display.
(2014) Divergent
(2015) Insurgent
Music tagging, I like to use MP3 tag with this format string:
%discnumber%$num(%track%,2) - %title%
I remove disc number in tags if it's from iTunes that always labels single-disc albums as 1 disc of 1 total discs.
I'm not going to go senile and fret over wondering where discs 2-nth is.
If there's a disc number, it will be known.
I like it when slates are part of the title and not the track.

Not sure. I could ask Jessie. Covers and booklets have downloads.
I think most of it would have to directly associate with something you can download rather than being a discussion for things most can't download.
It should be made clear that the thread isn't for people with private shares or willing to trade or anything that would cause 99% of the other downloaders to rebel.
In most cases, it should be evidently clear you can find it on Shrine (if you search for it), so everyone has access to it.

If I do it, it's going to be every known slate for every known score. There's tons out there that have yet to surface, but the slates are known due to the sheets. Example: The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Dark Shadows. The list is endless.
However, I will say that not all of them are accessible. It's just good to know them.

Then 50% of them will ask why the thread was created and all sorts of other chaos will ensue.
In which case, keep it in discussion.

"stupid" is a relative term.
The all caps jokes and asking for sesions has been uttered by literally everyone in this forum.
They know where downloads and requests go.
Them going to a discussion section of the forum would mean their intentions to be not the first thing that we see from them in the download section.
They compartmentalized.
As such, we can only surmise that it was entirely out of a pretext of comedy.
It would also help to cross-examine the ongoings for that particular day of particular threads/posts where a particular topic of particular interest would cause a sudden arousal of all caps events and/or request events such as those observed.
The notion to base all actions on first impressions, is, firstly, accidentaly, and, secondly, second-nature.
HDLossless has even joined in at several points when being made fun of for asking for high fedility uploads.
I'm pretty sure even Courage has joined in the fun at several points.
So it's not a far stretch to conceive what they did in the discussion section, a long trek to get to, I might add, was not by accident.
Logically, we can only surmise they trolled.
Was the trolling stupid? Something we can all attest to.
By definition: it's an old joke, a running gag.
But it was, indeed, sucessful, as Exhibit B proves (Exhibit is anything that proceeded about the topic in that discussion thread; Exhibit B is the topic we are relating thusly).
Elementary!

Fair enough. The ugliness I imagine may stem from having it combined with the track number (which I almost always have just for the sake of) and they just seem redundant/jammed in there.
Side question: with multiple discs do you guys restart numbering or keep it continuous?
By structure I meant how directors and composers choose to organize and 'break' their slate order. I mentioned this in one of my early posts I'm too lazy to unearth, but the formula still used today is technically obsolete. It served a purpose when movies were shot and edited on (reels of) film - 1m = first reel, 2m = second reel, 3m = third reel etc - each reel consisting of about 11 minutes of film. The advent of digital, however, removed the need for such a rigid skeleton and now cue numbering is a largely arbitrary exercise.

I always thought about that in the modern age.
I noticed someone posted slates to a movie where every slate was:
1m(track#)
And nothing else.
No 2m, no 4m (sometimes one would be skipped because that reel would be nothing but dialogue or no music needed by the director).
I have to question a lot of slates.
I can make them up so easily.
Even the secondary number would be in just incrimental (4m1, 4m2...5m).
Where as some really old ones, I've seen later slates would start with something like (4m7 and not 4m1).
Speaking of... where is that DVD to The Corruptor...
The bluray came out, but didn't transfer the isolated score.
AC3 5.1 I believe...
There was even a menu where it included chapters to the score pieces. Different chapters than the movie chapters.
The menu also listed slates, IIRC.
And even Carter Burwell mentions the slate naming convention.

I dunno what Burwell and Davis could've meant by "#m#" but as for the movie having just "1mX" but I wouldn't be surprised if that were a totally legit post hahaha
Also, yup, restarting the value for the second digit, ie. what used to be and still is (ish) the "cue number", is a modern development and one that makes very little sense because of how unnecessary having a reel number is. Old movies usually had continuous numbering (for ex. 1m6, 2m7) because reel number, besides identifying the placement of a piece of music in the movie for post production by reference to the specific reel the scene was shot on, was largely irrelevant and the composer would see 2m7, as (ideally) the 7th cue in the film, period. I say "ideally" because directors usually would ask for additional music to be scored after watching a scene without music and that's how you'd get "1m6, 1m6a, 1m6b...". The general placement of alternates at the end of modern scores only accentuates the futility of keeping a slating system, at least while pretending that it actually means anything.
Edit: color correcting my album covers to add a little life while listening to this genius.

But whenever a music cue ends, they'll sometimes say shit like "that was 1m4: Death In a Basket" or whatever the hell.
All arbitrary to illustrate a point but not a fact.
When I rip the isolated scores, there will be several versions:
1) score only
2) commentary only
3) score + commentary
but only when there is a commentary.
For scores without a commentary there will only be a commentary.

I do love it so when the Song Title matches my current Activity... ^^
Bright light, big night, I'm feelin strong
Jim Beam givin' me the right to do wrong
I'm giving you exactly one minute
Now find a clean dress and get your ass in it
Know what I'm gonna do
I'm get drunk, with or without you
Yeah, I'm get drunk, with or without you
Well I'm tired of sitting around this chicken shack hell
Gonna hit the bar gonna drink my fill
Gotta vacant lot in the middle of my belly
Good times are few and I need many
Maybe you can come along too
But I'm gettin' drunk, with or without you
Yeah, I'm gettin' drunk, with or without...
Maybe we should stay at home
Leave our well-enoughs alone
Call our mothers on the phone
Hello, momma?
You ever find a twenty dollar bill underneath a stack of trash cans?...
My favorite bar is down the road
I'm gonna drink you pretty, you beautiful toad
Call of the wild is a-ringing in my ear
There's a worm in the bottle screaming "Get me outta here!"
Know what I gotta do
I'm gettin' drunk, with or without you
Yeah, I'm gettin' drunk, with or without you
That's right, I'm gettin' drunk, with or without you

The movie was meh (more acceptable than the others due to the nice exteriors and stuff, but still not the best movie) but the score was rather good.
The movie was on a par with the second one - both as bad as each other.
I love almost everything about the first film - the acting is pretty solid, the story is good, and the music is absolutely beautiful.

Currently refreshing my memory of some Maxence Cyrin with his aching piano cover of "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies (Nov Piano).
Nov Piano is one of his weakest outings but the YouTube videos he made to accompany each piece are a wonderful experience. See this (

You know what I meant. I got relatives showing up today, all women so it's going to be annoying as hell here really quick... When relatives leave, I'll be able to think more clearly.
I know, I'm just teasing you Sparky. I dislike most of my relatives, for obvious reasons. Bro hugs xoxoxoxo

Damn. This (by which I mean Alvin and the Chipmunks 1) had/made the money to become a film series?!?!?!? I knew it had a sequel but I had no idea there were either third or fourth movies. I'm staggered.

Oh yeah, there's a fourth movie, The Road Chip, coming out this christmas.

Nothing new, not even the render of the Chipmunks, otherwise that the fur seems a bit more detailed.
How have I not heard about this?! Wow. I knew a fourth movie was rumoured, but had no idea there was a trailer. I'm happy. I'm hoping it'll rescue the franchise, and I'll be glad to see more of Jason Lee and the Chipmunks.
As long as those wretched 'chipettes' are nowhere in sight.

I'm sorry, but nope. This movie isn't going to be any better. Why the hope?
It probably won't be, I'll admit. But I like to hope. I wonder who will score it? I'd love Lennertz to return, but I doubt he will.
If you like The Chipmunks, just watch the new 3D series for TV.
No. Just no. I wouldn't dream of wasting my time watching that crap.

Why is anyone taking anyone else's opinion?
I can predict about it:
1) The movie won't do great in the box office.
2) But home release, children love it.
3) Parents will buy it for their children.
4) that's all hollywood cares about if they continue shows like this. Pixar and Disney don't own everything.

Crap? It's WAY more acceptable/better than the CGI Chipmunks, and you know it. It's also made by the Chipmunk creators and such.. it's rather decent. What is crap is the animation. Why are you so judgamental on this show but think CGI chimpunks is oh so cool?
It's not just the CGI that's crap in the show. The way it's made/directed is 100% cringeworthy. In my opinion.
Oh, and didn't you know? The original creator of the Chipmunks (Ross Bagdasarian) and his company Bagdasarian Productions were heavily involved in making the first film They even used Ross' own piano as the piano in Dave's house.

I listened to the Christopher Lennertz's score long before I ever saw the film, simply because it was lovely music. I highly recommend it. :)
