Yeah... I mean, I can understand why they wouldn't want to release the film since kids love Disney movies, and it might send them the wrong sort of message... but it's still a shame Disney hasn't made it available to, like, film students or something.

I remember reading about the lemming thing somewhere too. Just imagine how heartless of a cameraman you'd have to be to film someone chucking lemming off of cliffs.

:erm: You would hate Cannibal Holocaust.

I agree, there should be an academic version available for Song of the South.
There's plenty to learn about Disney in their rise to an empire.

Saving Mr. Banks is a good film because it's a movie.
The truths behind it are a far stretch from the glossy matte painting we get of Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.
Even today they are still masking things because they have an image to uphold.

Disney should release South of the South on Blu-ray. It's a piece of history that reflects how a lot of America thought at the time. (Hell, until the 1930s you could buy postcards featuring lynched African-Americans. Imagine getting that in the mail.)

Warner and Paramount had the courage to release their Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry cartoons on blu-ray that were racist, in unedited form. Don't bury stuff like that, drag it into the light and let everyone see.

Now, on a much lighter note, I'm watching this season of The Flash I DVR'd. Much better than Gotham. A lot of episodes of Gotham go nowhere fast whilst The Flash is moving towards a goal. And so far I Zombie has been surprising good.

Is there a recording of this? Sounds fun.

No recordings other than from people's shitty phones. I had some of it recorded on my Droid, but I lost that phone on The Thunderbolt at Coney Island in August. It was after several inverted drops and corkscrews. Went airborne from my pocket and that was that lol. I wish they had recorded the actual concert and at least put it on YouTube or even released a Blu-ray or something but no. Sometimes you get lucky and manage to find an amazing quality video from someone's handheld on YouTube, but not this time. I was at least able to find a great copy of the Roger Waters concert I went to at MSG in November of 2010. Roger Waters: The Wall Live

There is this version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOC81O1W81I) I found. It's in SD, but it's not bad. You can see everything pretty nicely. Her father is the white guy with the huge afro wearing all black lol. He's standing in between Anthony Gonzalez and Morgan Kibby.

And I forgot to mention: That's Joseph Trapanese in the background conducting The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra

I like Midnight City as well but I agree, it's way too overused in the media.

I would like to see Intro used a little more often. Not too much (like nowhere near Midnight City), but just a little more.

And back on topic: listening to my Lost River OST. "Tell me I'm you baby and you'll never leave me/Tell me that you'll kiss me forever"

I saw it and the only thing I remember was that the soundtrack was not completely bad. Everything else in it just made me realize that prolly we should redefine 'bad' movies. I never cared for the books but when they exploded everywhere (beat Harry Potter's sales record, I mean say whatever about the books at least she managed to drag millions of readers down with her stuff) and suddenly everyone had either read it or hated others that had, I admit, I was a little curious. I got the ebook version but never opened it, always swiping left. So, when the movie casting rumors blew up, naturally I realized this was going to be a big deal in Hollywood (just like Twilight, etc). I do remember. But nudity is not enough to make a movie worthwhile. If I wanted porn with a backstory I'd watch something like Game of Thrones or most things off of Showtime's programming. I was dragged by a friend to it even though I really had no interest in the movie itself, the cinema going experience is one I always look forward to. Also, it was her treat and I'd had a boring week. I got that large popcorn with seasoning and a buncha other stuff too. These are the two tele-films by Dan Curtis of Dark shadows fame which launched Kolchak: the Night Stalker tv series. Chris Carter said in an interview that the series was an inspiration for the X-Files.

There was an attempt to reboot the series in 2005 with Stuart Townsend and Carl Kolchak and a new character that tagged along for the ride (no doubt inspired by the Mulder and Scully partnership) played by Gabrielle Union.

No No Man Part 2.
by Steven "Jesse" Bernstein

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfOAnB-GmyI

Original, unedited audio that was sampled heavily during the opening credits to Stone's Natural Born Killers.
Stone butchered over a thousand songs just to make his riviting opening titles to the definitive, thrilling romance of the 90's.

The original "song" is quite good on its own.
I haven't listened to the rest of the album from Bernstein, but gave a few tracks a listen and they're quite good.
NNMP2 is my favorite, since it triggers nostalgia.

Josie and the Pussycast.

It's a really odd film. It feels like it's a surviving script of the late 90's with a slow progression into the 21st century of film making.

I'm really finding this hard to keep up with.
The jokes run on a childish base level of humor. It's written for tweens, but the adult humor and sexuality in it is written to condition them to be 21st century whores.
I mean it has Tara Reid. CASE AND POINT.
The premise of the movie is commercialist brainwashing and subliminal messages. CASE AND POINT.

I'm glad it's free at this point.

I fucking loved Mixology. So good. Though I don't see how a 2nd season would've worked, so it's for the best it was cancelled.

I never had a desire to see Agents of Shield. It looks corny. Maybe I'll try it, idk

That was prolly one of the best conclusions to a tv show ever. A proper end, like a movie and not another half-assed cliffhanger. But yeah, I agree about the cancellation. If they had continued, maybe they could've done something along the lines of an anthology like American Horror Story or something.

I never had a desire to see Agents of Shield. It looks corny. Maybe I'll try it, idk

There are some parts that are corny. But every once in a while there's an idea that may spawn into something good. Also, I'm on the sixteenth episode and they're not really using the width of the MCU to it's full potential. Cameos (good ones, that is) are rare and spread apart too much. Elements from the other movies pop up here or there but it's almost like they're hinting that something's going on outside the lives of the Agents, but not much else. It's more along the lines of a pedestrian ABC production rather than something like say, Agent Carter (a little better)or Daredevil (much better, but different beast so I don't know if comparing works). It's like the writers have decided on some plotlines that they are obvs building up (like Skye's parents) but then there's some some stuff that they're just piling on for the fun of it and the difference in quality shows.

Yes, better than I thought. Joseph Kosinski directed, same guy who did TRON: Legacy. I went and saw it in IMAX. And the fact that M83 (for the most part) composed the score only adds to it, for me. There's also a shit ton of custom covers for it. But I'm still gonna have a custom one made and I already have an idea in mind ;)

Never understood the fascination with Tron. I grant you the concept is cool, however, it's a variation on the film Fantastic Voyage. But once you get past that the dialogue is awful, the acting wooden - with the notable exception of David Warner - and the music forgettable. (Yes, it's Wendy Carlos, but not one of her better scores.) It always surprised me that the allegorical elements of the film, Bernard Hughes was in essence Walt Disney - the inventor who started in his garage, funded an empire which was then taken over by the bean counters - were largely missed by viewers.

Tron Legacy was pretty to look at, and I don't mean Ms. Wilde and Ms. Garrett in their form fitting outfits, but said nothing at the end. (The film never explained or adequately showed why the isomorphic algorithms were so important or what they could do that was so important. Show me, don't tell me.)

But it was worth it just to have Daft Punk score a movie. One hell of a score.

Oblivion much the same: pretty to look at, but nothing going on upstairs. (Third movie where Cruise saves the world from aliens. And second where he gets the girl half his age. Things that make you go "Hmmmmmm".)

fact that M83 (for the most part) composed the score

Not M83 as a band. They only did the end credits as a whole group.
Anthony Gonzalez from M83 was the only one to work with Joseph Trapanese on the score.

Gonzalez actually hates this work since he knew his group (M83) would overshadow his own name.
Not to sound like an ego-maniac, but he didn't want people like you attributing the score to the band which they had nothing to do with it.

M83 was just a studio gimmick to get children to fill box office seats.
Anthony Gonzalez The Composer, is a unique identity, exclusive in his own right.

You can read here that he didn't like how studios forced "M83" to be part of the advertising.
Update: M83's Anthony Gonzalez | Features | Pitchfork (http://pitchfork.com/features/update/9110-anthony-gonzalez/)

Pitchfork: On the album cover for the soundtrack, it reads "original music by M83" and then "composition with Joe Trapanese and Anthony Gonzalez." Do you have boundaries set for "Anthony Gonzalez, the composer" and "M83"?

AG: I would have pushed for "Anthony Gonzalez and Joe Trapanese," because for me, this is how the score was done. I didn't want to involve M83 in that, but it's hard because Universal wanted to push M83 because of the success of "Midnight City". It's funny because sometimes big studios don't give a shit about you, but when you're nominated for the Grammys, you start receiving emails like, "Oh, congratulations. We're excited about the soundtrack." I'm like, "You didn't give a shit about me two months ago when I got the job, and now you're just acting like a ..." It makes you feel like there's something wrong with the movie industry-- you can write that, I don't care.

And you can read here how he almost quite composing because the studios thought his music was too "indie".
M83 Reveals He Nearly Quit 'Oblivion,' Studio Said His Mu | The Playlist (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/m83-reveals-he-nearly-quit-oblivion-studio-said-his-music-was-too-indie-for-the-film-20130422)

I never liked the idea in the first place of attributing Oblivion to M83. They only did one song that could have easily been replaced by any other commercial, radio hit wonder of the year.

It's not nearly the same as Daft Punk and Joseph Trapanese.
Daft Punk don't go by any other names in the industry (today). They were a commercial gimmick from the start.
DP agreed to be total sellouts for the film in every aspect possible.
Except allowing an isolated score. Probably unionized crap or some million mile red tape process.
Trapanese has stated that he would have loved to do an isolated score for Daft Punk didn't want to.

Show me, don't tell me

They're making part 3.
This one was mainly a re-introduction, after 30 years apart from the first one.
One does not simply walk out of the Grid with an isomorph and change things.

No idea what's in store for 3.
Probably Jeff Bridges will emerge from the Grid in the human world and contain both identities (Jekyll/Hyde).
And the iso chick will probably become more human every day and lose the code that's needed to prevent cancer.
Things go south, and they need to jack into the Matrix again to get the code all over again because there was an encrypted part of Mainframe that has backups.
And with no evil leader around to tyrannize the arcade, everyone goes Turbo desperate for hero medals and the lands become a Mad Max wasteland.

BOOM. Kill the franchise in bad sequel.
End of Line.

I wanna watch Tron.

So do I. Again.

I love that movie so much. Yeah, the story could be improved and Garrett was one casting decision that should have got someone fired but still, the music made me cry and kicked ass. Big DP fan here but still. And stupid Social Network won the Oscar that year I think. I mean if they had to give it to some experimental thing why not this one. I don't hate Reznor or NIN but his composing work has been subpar. The Social Network, Gone Girl, even Black Ops II, etc. Anyway, I didn't really like the first TRON, it was interesting idea but maybe a little too immaturely executed. And also, the CGI tech hadn't caught up to what the prolly wanted to do. But the light cycles were cool. And Legacy took everything from the first one and made it cooler. The movie is not just a CGI demo but amazingly well made. Kosinski is a phenomenal director and the day that man gets a good script, mmmmmmmmmm. The Dude is well, the Dude so 'nuff said. Wilde is awesome and talented as hell and needs some good roles in her portfolio. Michael Sheen was an unexpected surprise but he turned into one of the best things in the movie. So was Cillian Murphy, bummed I was when I realized his role was so limited. Fingers crossed for the sequel.

Follow it up with Oblivion, which is also from the same director. And it looks good. In fact, Kosinski's films are so well designed it's remarkable. It's prolly because he was an architect but other directors need to pick up a thing or two here. Not the biggest fan of Cruise but he's not insufferable here at least. Again, the story needed work but the music again, was awesome. It's weird, Trapanese is so good when collaborating with other artists be it Moby, Mike Shinoda (from LP), Anthony Gonzalez or DP but his solo work is just average.

Edge of Tomorrow was a fun ride too.

A tragedy, indeed. 127 Hours was the fifth nom which was okay but no TRON: Legacy. Should've swapped it round. The Oscars have always had at least a couple disappointments and some ancient bias in there somewhere and AMPAS is showing no signs of this trend altering.

Uprising was weird but fun. Why bother twisting and manipulating the Legacy score and then re-adapting it for the show. I mean why not just use the music from the movie, since Disney owns both, there'd be no licensing issues. Maybe make one two suites for the new characters and make some variations on the existing stuff, it's not like the robots are going to come back for the third one. Hate to say it, but this is incorrect. The studio owns everything. The rights to the film, the screenplay, the score - all of it. A year or so ago a friend of mine interviewed Trapanese and he himself said that the studio owns the rights to the composer's music. Ever notice that at the end of a film (let's use Interstellar, for example) it says "Copyright 2014 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Paramount pictures Corporation. All rights reserved". Same pertains to the screenplay and the score. There's also usually a copyright notice about the screenplay and the score but I think I passed it and I don't feel like going back to look for it :p

And I did hear that Disney wanted to do an isolated score for the blu-ray but DP said no. Now this kinda contradicts what Trapanese said, because it implies DP has ownership of the score and not Disney. But I'll take Trapanese's word over "something I heard"

But further evidence that the studios own the right to the score:

Almost 2 summers ago when HP3 "leaked" and was immediately taken down, rumor is that it was WB that had it taken down.

When the PotC 4 demos leaked, a page was created for them on HZ.com. Disney issued a cease-and-decist order to have it removed.

I was told a while back that when the Transformers promo score leaked, Paramount was not happy about it

If your taste runs to Evil Dead 2 then Wyrmwood should appeal to you. It's a bloke's film - although the female lead is tougher than a two dollar steak -and the humor veers towards the decidedly male. (Director Roache-Turner has some fun jabbing the image of Australian male stereotype.) And just as in ED2 there are a couple of WTF moments.

The plot is simple: it's the zombie apocalypse and Barry (the lead who looks a bit like Eric Bana) gets a call from his sister Brooke who's trapped in her home. He goes to save her. But there's many a slip between the cup and the lip and simple doesn't mean easy.

RIPD was Bridges second (of three) films where he uses an insane accent.

He first dawned the accent in True Grit, which needed subtitles.
Then he did RIPD, which was okay if you got nothing to watch. I've not read the graphic novels so went in clean.

Now he's got Seventh Son (based on a books, "Spook's Apprentice") which severely needs subtitles for his accent.
I'd just as soon learn Pikey before I learn what he's trying to say in that film.

Wait, so I was wrong?

I do think that studios own everything in the production itself. People are hired for their skillz but their ultimate contribution is the property of the studio who commissioned it (unfair but just the way it is). So, I think that DP may own their identity and everything but the score they contributed is Disney's property and thus, can be used in the animated TRON: Uprising which I think is also Disney's considering it aired on Disney XD. As far as the iso track goes, maybe DP just preferred the way the retail release sounded as opposed to the way it sounds in the film. Disney may have just respected that creative preference. Trapanese was not the composer but the conductor/orchestrator I think so maybe his say in this held less weight than the composers. DP are known to be quite specific and place a lot of worth in being in control of the music they make and how it is presented.

Tales from the Crypt; Demon Knight (1995) [German distribution]
DTS-HD MA for Eng and Ger.

The 5.1 mix is super fine.
I think I remember from the DVD.
Solo the center channel and you get only dialogue/sfx, minus whatever bleeds into surround sound channels.
The demon sfx go into the surround sound channels and whatever else (gun shots, explosions, etc).

Some scenes, music bleeds into the center. Mostly prominent scenes, but very faintly.
Where Brayker explains about the 7 Keys, you can hear some of the music very quietly in the center channel.

This is a soundtrack that LLA/Intrada need to release.

They're both good. The first is usually the better of the two, and I think that's the case here as well. Although AGoS is good. And now you can appreciate Hans' complete score (from SH, but I hear AGoS is floating around), which is the film mixes ;)

Because Oblivion is in 96kHz, 32-bit, 5.1. So exporting all the individual tracks (and then amplifying them) takes minutes at a time. So I go back and forth between my music and the project. This is why it's taken me an entire damned week to finish it

Finally got around to listening the Kingsman: The Secret Service soundtrack. It seems a tad 'inspired' by the Silvestri's work on Avengers. But still, better than the movie. Which, if I remember correctly, was also pretty fantastic. Vaughn keeps up the streak.

Still, Whedon should've picked these two for Ultron. Esp. when Jackman already has a working relationship with Marvel Co. and an excellent track record too.
Hell, just recut the movie and use this one instead of the existing score.

Then again, I've only listened to the retail Ultron album, haven't seen the movie yet. Maybe they can surprise me.

I'm liking Henry Jackman more and more every time I listen to his work. Here's hoping the Russo Bros. stick with him with Infinity Wars

Anyway, had a Dead Like Me marathon too. I love Bryan Fuller's work. I never had room to really love Georgia because I was still pissed off that they took Wonderfalls off-air. But after they, killed Pushing Daisies I realized maybe his work is better in small portions. But who knows, they haven't gutted Hannibal yet.

Man of Steel

The Fellowship of the Ring

Was Superman Returns not good, then?

Man of Steel isn't anything special... there are some good moments, but overall it's kind of a mess.

Sherlock Holmes is fun, but honestly is nothing like Arthur Conan Doyle's character.

Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe is a nice one.

The Fellowship of the Ring is awesome. The extended edition is bloated, but has some fun scenes. You should definitely see the extended editions for the next two films, though.

Penguins of Madagascar was kind of disappointing. There just wasn't much substance.

And I've never seen War of the Worlds.

So I'd recommend either Fellowship or Wardrobe (the latter has a really nice end credits song that I've never found the film version to online; I think it has as mid-credits scene, too).

Thanks for the info! Superman Returns was too lame and too long. Two and a half hours ...just to watch Lex Luther destroying a model railway in his own house and having a screaming lady in an out-of-control car that is careening around Metropolis that somehow doesn't hit a single person just so Supes can swoop in and save her so that Lex can rob a museum of kryptonite-infested rock and use it to create an enormous desolate landmass that he somehow thinks people will want to buy where Superman ends up so that Lex can stab him with a kryptonite crystal and 'kill' him. Oh, and that's not mentioning the random little stereotypical kid who needs an inhaler for his asthma and eye drops and medication who is the son of Lois and Richard but occasionally exhibits bizarre strength only when the plot absolutely demands it but never any other time it would be useful, which kinda indicates he's Superman's son, particularly as Superman does some kind of unexplained 'power-transfer' through repeating Jor-El's words to the kid at the end, which leaves you thinking "Did Superman have sex with Lois and then they both forgot about it and now they think the kid is Lois and Richard's son??"

The main actor isn't very good as Superman. But he's quite good as Clark Kent.

Too lame and too long? Uh-oh... I don't think you'll like MoS much then. The first 30 minutes are ALL ON KRYPTON. And Jor-el (Superman's space dad)'s holorgram is in half the movie even though he's dead. I'm still not sure why they made that choice.

Awesome. Maybe that's a hint I should watch MoS tonight...

Listening to 5m30 Escape From Ship whilst cooking meatballs and pasta.

That's one of the best cues off the score. At first I didn't understand all the hype behind it, and then I got the complete score and got a chance to listen to it. It's also a good scene. Definitely watch MoS tonight

Alright. Will do. My pasta and meatballs are now cold, but I will go sit down now and settle in. Here's hoping it's an improvement on the previous one. ;)

You thought Superman Returns was good? I would say it was better than Superman III for sure, but I wouldn't rank it any higher. The plot was terrible, and as such the film felt far too long and drawn out. MoS was good. Glad they've kept the whole secret identity thing after all. I'm looking forward to another MoS film. Not sure about adding Batman into the mix though. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Now I can appreciate Hans' score to its fullness. :)

Pasta and meatballs..

You really had a LATT dinner, now didn't you? :P

I am already drooling. I never get tired of spaghetti a la bolognese.

Haha yeah. But this was fusilli, not spaghetti, I'm afraid. Still, it was close enough. :p

Just starting The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I can't believe it's taken so long - it's now ten years since it came out. Here's hoping it sticks well and truly to the book.

In the book, the final battle takes up one or two pages. In the movie it's, like, forty minutes. :p

I didn't care for Narnia

Aslan is just bringing Tumnus back to life... I've had four interruptions. Maybe I'll finish the movie this year sometime...

Still, it's sticking a lot closer to the book than I thought it might. I'm actually rather enjoying it.

And DAK, did you ever read the book?

And DAK, did you ever read the book?

Nah, books aren't my thing. Always hated reading books, especially in junior high and high school. There are a few that I enjoyed and once in a blue moon (like every few years) I'll actually rent or buy a book and read it. In high school I enjoyed Heroes, Gods and Monsters of the Greek Myths, Oedipus (I love Greek Mythology if you couldn't tell), The Catcher in the Rye (a cliche I know, but one of my favorite books ever. I just re-read it about 3 years ago) and A Lesson Before Dying. That's all I can remember from high school.

Books I read on my own are The Dark Fields (which eventually turned into Limitless, and Shia LaBeouf was originall supposed to star instead of Bradley Cooper. Thank God for that one), Holes and John Grisham's The Associate. Currently I'm reading Nikki Sixx's (leader of Mtley Cre) The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rockstar.

Books aren't my thing.

Well there you go. ;)

That explains why you don't care for Narnia - the books were an essential part of my childhood, along with LotR (when we were a little older). As children's books, Narnia works very well. It's a tricky job adapting a children's book into a film at the best of times, and I actually thought they did a damn good job.

Correction - the battle in the movie lasts fourteen minutes, not forty. :p

I read the first six books as a kid, and was just starting the seventh when I realized that the Chronicles of Narnia were actually a little boring.

Y-you mean you never finished The Last Battle? How on earth could you have read all of them up to the last one and not finish it??

R-really? It felt so much longer to me.

Yep - just checked it. From when Peter lifts his sword and the battle begins to when Aslan kills the White Witch is only 14mins.

(If you like really long, drawn out, and down-right bloated battle scenes, check out Bakshi's LOTR)

I don't know. I was reading the 7th, and it was about a talking gorilla and a talking donkey or something like that, and it hit me - "this is really boring."

Ah - good to know there's an extended cut. How much longer is it? I'd be interested to see it, as I felt the whole film was a little rushed.

Yep, that's the one! It's certainly the weirdest book, but it completes the series. And the ending battle is good. Also, the whole horror-in-the-stable thing around the campfire is intriguing.

Listening to "Main Title - The Kids" from Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat by David Newman. Lovely soundtrack I just made a thread of, shared with you all.

David Newman? Now I'm interested.

Didn't Cat in the Hat win the Razzie award for worst picture the year it came out? I never saw it.
