Finally mustered up the strength to watch An American Tail.
 It was tough.

I grew up with both American Tail movies, Land Before Time, All Dogs Go To Heaven.
I saw them in theaters. I was only like 4 when the first American Tail came out, but parents still took me.

I kept watching the credits right up until I saw Horner's name then switched to Fievel Goes West.

All Dogs Go To Heaven is next.
Then The Land Before Time.

The parts Hans Zimmer did, score-wise, that are not fiddled with shitty annoying dubstep noise or anything else experimental of Mr. Zimmer's, melodical wise is fine. Some tracks are really nice. But still highly overrated by people, I believe. Yes, people, the melodies and stuff, everything normal music wise is fine, great, yes, but some people put it as if it was the best thing ever :P

Huh, I understand you but also I don't. I thought the only truly appealing moments came out of Electro because, if anything, it stood out and didn't sound generic (which is what I'm hearing from more and more film scores nowadays. I'm falling out of love with film music hahaha)

(Honestly though, I'm sure it's one of the most polarizing albums I have on my library, which is a sore because 1. it's a cover album and 2. the world really didn't need a Peter Gabriel cover album... but I can't get past how gorgeous the climax to this song is and how brilliant his rendition of "Mirrorball" is).

The first trailer for Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016) is finally out in HD!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmHOFnINXV0

Lookin' mighty good, the CGI and all is very very good! Though, John Debney composing for it? I don't know, doesn't really fit for me, is he gonna make good music?

It looks... heartbreakingly unremarkable. I think "live-acton" is a pointless, if not detrimental, treatment for this kind of story. Imagine a live-action "Spirited Away" *shudders*. The first one was great, if you're into pale carbon copies of any Indiana Jones film. Sigh, if only they'd given a proper tease of something other than poorly CGI'd foliage and animals.

Edit: the music for this is just so stupidly bombastic.

I'm more looking forward for Andy Serkis' adaptation of the book, IF it is close to the book and interesting. Though this one I'm not looking forward, but interested to see.

I don't see nothing wrong with the trailer or what we've seen so far. A bit generic trailer.

It's simple. Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK, coming on April 2016, a live action adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK, the Disney classic. And the Warner Bros. movie directed by Andy Serkis in which he gonna be Baloo, and Bennedict Cumberbatch I think will be Shere Khan. (I THINK.) this one's said to be more closer to the book. That's the diference with these two movies. And the last comes in 2017.

Lol I wasn't confused as much as I was amazed that two movies that will probably end up being very similar, regardless of allegations that the latter will be kept in line with Kipling's stories, were even greenlit, especially with the latter being called "Jungle Book: Origins". The banality of that title alone is woeful, near actually painful.

Yeah, I might make some covers sometime, but right now I'm concentrating on making sure I've got everything sorted for starting my course. My enrolment is tomorrow...

I've also got some other things to do, like letter/card writing to various folks that needs to be done. I've also got to sort out my mobile phone tomorrow if I can. And also buy some shoes and maybe a pack of t-shirts. And I've also got to get round to ordering my Student Rail Card, so that I can start traveling at a slightly more reasonable price by train. And I'm still considering whether or not to get an NUS card. Not sure if it's worth it for me yet.

Ah the joys of young adult life. I'll have to start looking into finding a place to rent for next year soon. Then I'll have all sorts of money issues to think about on top of that.

Such beautiful memories. I stopped by Winchester Cathedral yesterday afternoon on my way back from the town centre, and it just happened to be 17:30 - exactly the time evensong starts. I cannot begin to express my delight at going in, walking down to the stalls, and sitting there listening to the choir. Memories just kept flooding back. I had no idea which responses, canticles, or anthem they were going to sing, but it just so happened that the canticles were one of my favourite that we sang many, many times - Dyson in F. When the organ started playing, I honestly couldn't help myself. A lump came to my throat and I started to cry. Gee. It was so emotional. And wonderful. That service was probably the best 45 minutes of my year so far. I'm so happy to be living in a cathedral city for the next three years! And I will be joining a choir here that gets a chance to sing in the cathedral several times a year. I cannot wait.

They are the recordings of my choir, The Walbrook Singers, made by our organist recorded from the organ loft using a portable recorder. Every piece of music from every service that week. He sent me the recordings and I split them up into individual pieces, tagging, fade ins and outs, etc, using Audacity. I also designed cover art (back and front inserts) for jewel CD cases and had them printed and the CDs burnt for members of the choir.

I keep hearing great things but I am still greatly reluctant to begin it for no good reason. Thoughts?

Currently listening to:

DAK you might actually like his work on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. Lott composed the score to the film through his Son Lux project which, though electronic, generally is very rich in post-rock mannerisms, much like The Spectacular Now if it had been composed in a slightly more atmospheric vein. He also has a distinctly quirky penchant for classical music which sometimes comes across with brief melodies in his violins and cellos, though less on Eleanor Rigby. I love the score; it's simply gorgeous music and comes greatly recommended as do the movies (not Them, avoid Them, if you must watch Him first then Her).

Edit: I knew I'd seen it lying around here (Thread 183066) somewhere. I grabbed it way back when the movies first came ouy and it was only digitally released m'afraid so 320 is the best that can be.

So much to take in.

For added experience, play the story campaigns to EA's take "Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle-Earth" (1, 2 & 2 expansion pack "Rise of the Witch King").
Emulates a lot of the cinematic universe. A lot of copied dialogue from the films, a lot of the same sfx. I think some of the movie actors did some new dialogue for the game? Can't remember.

But, you'll never grow tired summoning the Ents or Eagles or even a Balrog. :happycroc:

Watching the trailer for The Jungle Book (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcgJRQWxKnw) over and over again

I really can't believe how good it looks. How promising.
The CG is excellent. On par with what they did for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes series.
So glad they didn't get Angelina Jolie for the snake.
Can't wait for the next trailer, hopefully it will reveal some of the voice acting from Christopher Walken

The way CG is going, they can really do good re-imagining some of the classics.
Most of those stories are public domain, anyhow, so there's no end to waht they can do.

If they re-did it today, it would be instant and interrupting anything he says.

The death was cheesy, but the whole part earlier where the two captains are in the logging cabin together was neat.
Getting blown out of the ship was neat.

They had to find something to kill him slowly so he has time to talk himself to death.
They should have stabbed him badly. Then he can bleed out slowly and it would be more convincing.

Kirk is the ultimate cheater of death. They should have had a scenario where it was maybe possible he could have saved himself, but chose not to, to show that his death was his own choice and not a result of blundering or error.

I'm looking forward to Winnie The Pooh, I have to say. Done right, it'll be amazing.

You gotta be kidding me. Picture all this in live-action:

- A suicidal donkey
- A rabbit screaming at a tiger to stop messing around in his garden
- A yellow bear wearing a shirt doing exercises in front of the mirror each morning

Sounds frightening.

Maybe I'm too attached to the cartoons I saw as a lad, but I can't imagine a live-action Winnie the Pooh as anything but horrifying.

There actually was a live-action Winnie the Pooh feature made:

TOO SMART FOR STRANGERS

It's about how you probably shouldn't let strangers paw around your private parts. According to the Disney Wikia, here's some of the tips that Pooh and Piglet share:

"Piglet reminds Pooh that sometimes, trouble doesn't always come from strangers, but from people you know. Pooh then tells Piglet about certain private places on his body what nobody but himself is allowed to touch. Pooh then goes on to tell the difference between 'okay' and 'not okay' touching..."

It's a little weird that the isolated residents of the Hundred Acre Wood would have so many tips on how to protect your privates from stranger danger.

http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2spky.gif

Holy mother of Sasquatch... if I were a kid I'd be more afraid of Piglet and Pooh Bear than of strangers.

Is this what a live-action Winnie the Pooh looks like?

I just got back from seeing Black Mass. :p Actually, the theater website said the showing was at 7:15, but after I got there and purchased my ticket I saw that it said 8:40. Since the theater was a 30 minute drive, I couldn't really go back home and come back. So I went into Walmart and stared at the DVD section for an hour. Ended up buying "The Town" which I've wanted to see for a wile, and "Balto" which Sully said was really good. As for Black Mass itself, it was alright. The acting was excellent, the mood was intense, but it came off like a documentary instead of a flowing narrative.

"The Town"

The Theatrical edition is the best.
The extended and alternate/extended are okay. Some neat stuff, but I would say you could take 1/3 or 1/2 of the extra stuff and have a decent fan-edit of the extended verion(s).

That is one movie I would say the extended is unnecessary.
There's too much building up for the romance in it.

The alt/extended has an alternate ending worth watching.

The theatrical edition has the best transfer. They're actually all the same, despite different bitrates.

Eh, the films make some unnecessary changes here and there (mostly in ROTK) but a lot of the changes make sense for a film adaptation. An example is cutting out the entire old forrest section in FOTR. It just wouldn't have worked well in the film. Also I think making Eomer come to the rescue at Helms Deep instead of Erkenbrand makes sense as far as simplifying the story to fit into 3 films. To do the books in their entirely would probably take 4-5 movies...

The extended editions do a great job of splitting the films in half at good stopping points. Nothing too bombastic or exaggerated in terms of cliffhangers, but not on too optimistic of a note either.

I haven't seen The Hobbit extended editions, but I hope that they took the same care for those... as in, not stopping disc one halfway through a sentence or in the middle of a battle sequence. :notgood:

I was glad the green tint came back. That's one thing where it should be tinted.

There should be a hybrid using Theatrical disc for the theatrical scenes and extended for extended.
We would have no frame of reference for the extended scenes so it should be pretty much seamless.

Because it's a glamorized Hollywood version. Just like Noah (apparently there's not a single reference to God in the entire film, WTF is up with that). Hollywood's versions of biblical stories are usually pretty good - because they stuff them with things people want to see.

They literally made Moses a mad man with hallucinations, and the red sea a fricking river that gets shallow when the tide goes down. lol. As an action film it was ok to me, but it was about as anti-religious as you can get which was disappointing.

Apologies for being inactive recently. I've been busy and on my end the forum was barely recognizable after the intrusion so I stayed away. That said, there was a very interesting semi(full-blown)-religious tangent I wanted to contribute to. Though it looked like it was a separate conversation between (obviously?) religious people, and you all know my views on this, I still wanted to contribute - if only because T-1000 duped me into watching an agonizingly stupid trailer.

Watching The Young Messiah Official Trailer #1 (2016) (https://youtu.be/pVfmdLO2Ui8) *formerly known as ''Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt''

Very interesting... I liked the trailer. Unfortunately for Catholics like me, religious movies are usually pretty horrible. :(

That looks... as horrifying as its former working title. ישוע. How a movie with "Christ the Lord:" in its title could even secure the financial backing it needed without incurring the very real risk that it will turn into a snuff film is just beyond me. Seriously, there are far more poetic titles that don't come across as unnecessarily pretentious (which is the ever-present fear with titles - horrible place marks actually, whether you try to be clever or meaningful or simply frivolous, they're always in some way pretentious) but "Christ the Lord:" is just something else... but I digress. The trailer is really bad though; almost as bad as the one for Risen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucUbAAMEF8M) which - starring Joseph Fiennes AND Tom Felton, OH how careers plummet!! - figures to be its propagandistic complement because I guess these things just come in pairs. #PunnyGod I realize that they make business sense if they're tightly marketed to an exclusively religious demographic and on a rigid budgetary leash but as someone who is working to reach Hollywood, cradle for filmmakers and screenwriters as BBC TV is only so rewarding both in spirit and silvers, to know that productions and distributions are allocating even a cent to nonsense of this kind is profoundly dispiriting.

I plan to see it, I want to but haven't had an opportunity yet. The Passion is a great film. One of the most controversial films ever made.

And I believe it's historically accurate. From the opening of the film in the garden of Gethsemane, to Jesus speaking Ancient Aramaic (with subtitles, of course)

The Passion divides me. Antisemitic undertones aside, it is a great film but it tells a story that isn't as shocking or as different from the many different accounts we already knew or were at least exposed to. Furthermore, despite the allegedly enormous amounts of research Gibson put into it (probably limited to repeated viewings of The Triumph of the Will), it was far from historically accurate. It just barely beats out The Gladiator, though Scott's mistakes are forgiven because it caused a resurgence in interest over Roman history. There is a wealth of material just on how historically misguided Gibson's (un)imaginative vision was but this article (http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2004/03/hitchens-201102) includes a condensed list of all its flaws, way back when Vanity Fair was a respectable publication and he's always a marvel to read.

Here's what Christian Bale had to say about Moses: "I think the man was likely schizophrenic and was one of the most barbaric individuals that I ever read about in my life."

To be fair, those are the exact words anyone, atheist and fervent believers alike, would today define anyone observed making claims similar to, or otherwise engaging in behavior emulating that of, Moses- let alone Jesus. A renascent Jesus would even face some serious trouble (http://www.justice.gov/usam/criminal-resource-manual-1572-assaults-upon-internal-revenue-service-personnel) were he to choose to, much in keeping with the acts of his predecessor, assault IRS personnel.

I almost like Peter more in Avengers than I do in X-Men.

Considering his very little use was largely ineffective, thanks to really poor dialogue made no better by ATJ's annoyingly inconsistent accent, Avengers did only one thing right with Pietro: the surprisingly emotionally evocative death scene. His last line was genuinely touching.

That saaaaaaaaid, Wanda's telepathic (and unconsciously destructive) reaction immediately following it, was, on the other hand, as manipulative and unimaginative as screenwriting can be. Wanda's character was a bare sketch throughout the whole movie, which is unforgivable considering the intention of incorporating her into the Avengers framework. If sequels proceed this way, anything outside of the five main characters will only exist in a supplementary, if not secondary, capacity. The writing for Black Widow comes in as a close second in terms of subtlety or lack thereof. The revelation that she is barren is as heavy-handed as the one in Prometheus, both so ridiculously delivered they work better as comical relief :/
