Being a re-recording, it's worth it for comparison to North's session recording. Another point against the Heindorf, apart from it's harshness, is that either Heindorf or the recording engineer opted to overly emphasize the piano at certain points. Throws the whole balance of North's composition off.

North's rejected 2001: A Space Odyssey score.
I once read that, if this score hadn't been rejected, North would today be credited with the revitalization of mainstream orchestral interest instead of John Williams. The more I listen, the more I wonder if that's true.

Ya know, plenty of composers in the 60's into the 70's were writing orchestral scores of a traditional bent before Lucas and Williams pulled out the Gerhardt recordings of Korngold, ya know.
And no, North is still too modernist for the tea and crumpets crowd to have inaugurated any supposed mainstream orchestral interest.

Yet still, thirty-six years later, the "popular" consensus of Dragonslayer, one of the many jewels in North's crown, and sculpted from the same piece of marble as 2001, is that it's unlistenable.
So no, a score without traditional melody and harmonic warmth would not past muster with the hoi polloi.

Williams would never have made the name he did for himself had he only been known for modernist entries like Images. Lucas wouldn't have even considered him for the job…which, shucks, might have meant Goldsmith could have gotten the gig.

Halloween (1978)
First time. I enjoyed it. I thought it would be a better film than it was; there was not anything too substantial happening until the last half hour or so, but I can't state any particular way of how it could've fared better than it did.
It was a good film, nearly great. A decent combination of unique and immersive cinematography, (lots of) suspense, and an extremely effective yet simplistic musical score I think made for an accomplished film that spawned many horror films to come, just as Psycho and some others did for this movie.
And I was surprised at the brief appearance of Michael Myers' face! Boy was he a persistent son of a bitch.

Krampus is good. (Hey, Oma is speaking real German, not that bastardized crap that Hollywood passes off as German.)
Never understood the appeal of Gremlins. Don't enjoy comedies when in order to get laughs everyone in the cast has a case of the stupids.
Case in point: rules established of what not to do with the Gremlins and what's the first thing everyone does: ignore the rules. (Rules which make no sense.)
My favorite: don't expose to water. (Honestly, Earth is mostly water, how are you going to avoid exposure?) And in one scene there's Gizmo running through the snow.
And what's snow?
Water.
Argh.
Now Gremlins 2, that worked. A case where the sequel was better than the original.

1. Conflict is the basis of all drama. And people are notorious for making stupid decisions (as you are very fond to point out). Thus stupid decisions generate obligatory conflict.

Didn't have to drill down far to strike a nerve. What's the matter, did I insult one of your favorite movies?
1: False equivalency. Conflict and stupidity are not the same thing. While conflict is the basis of drama, stupidity is not. And having people do stupid acts is a lazy, easy way of generating conflict. Shows a lack of imagination on the part of the writer. And kills any respect the audience has for the characters. Isn't that the knock against so many horror films, characters doing things that defy common sense?
Like: "let's split up" or "let's go into the haunted house on the hill" or "let's go party in the cemetery."
Now having your characters do something potentially stupid because they have no choice, say hunt down the Alien because they're trapped with it on a spaceship and they have neither the air or food to wait it out is a different matter. As is a fishing boat captain obsessively pursuing a giant great white shark even though the captain and his crew are clearly overmatched but pursue the beast anyway because the captain has a death wish due to survivor's guilt.
2: BTW, it's "your" not "you're". And as someone who grew up in Canada, the snow has many times melted against my skin. A square foot of skin generates in an hour the heat of 19 matches, more than enough heat to melt snow. And moving through snow creates friction which melts snow.
3: Killfail. 5,000 years of human civilization of art, science and writing and that's the best you can come up with?

A. Polemic ≠ personal, and vice versa.
1. ReadFail: I did not write conflict and stupidity are the same. Your bifocals need cleaning.
2a. You're welcome.
2b. In order for snow to melt rapidly against your skin the ambient air temperature would have to be at or above freezing, i.e. 32 F, otherwise ambient air temperature falling below 32 F will freeze both skin and sub-dermal tissue in short order and result in frostbite. A kinetic body (i.e. Gizmo) transiting through frozen water in the form of snow at a resting state temperature of, let's say, 25 F/-4.444 C would not melt snow on contact, particularly a kinetic body covered in hair or donned in clothes, as both are weak mechanisms for heat transfer.
3. I'm not on spec here. But if you want to write me a check I'll try really, really harder[sic] next time.

First shot of the kid, he's taking a piss and the camera zooms in slowly. Nothing's shown but you can obviously tell he's peeing.

I started watching (and finished) the first season of Supergirl this week. It really made me realize how much I love Superman. I've never really been into it, but, after re-watching Man of Steel, I think I'd like to consider it one of my favourite films of all time, espcially for the music.
I made a suite, tentatively called The Superman Suite.

What do you think of the classic Christopher Reeve films then? I enjoy all of them for different reasons (though the first is the best, no doubt).
I don't have any kind words for Man of Steel, but if you enjoy it, then there's no problem there.

Not a bad place to start, but not the most ideal. MoS Superman is a very different character than I'd usually think of.
I really recommend the original 1978 film as to what a classic portrayal of the character and story would be, while also providing a great example as to what really makes a film.
Also, I hear "All Star Superman" (the comic) is a fantastic story.

Soundtrack is compressed to hell and sounds like absolute crap. Flat and muddy from pushing the bass for Generation T(innitus).
The music itself is fairly mediocre, with the Main Titles being a prime example of the lazy RCP approach to drama: drums, drums and more drums. The whimsical stuff has been done elsewhere and better; Doyle comes readily to mind.
To add: golly, it's been 8 years since The Happening, the last JNH score I had unreserved praise for.

The one chick that made it from the stage to the screen for the Silver Screen adaptation of the stage musical adapated from the book for Les Mis...
She's got the crappiest character ever.
Epony. Or whatever name it is.
Worst luck, ever. Even worse than Fantine. At least Fantine gets her kid looked after and shares some time with someone worthwhile that treats her right.
Eddie Redmayne just rolls over ponygirl all the time.
The only redeeming part for her character is her final act of kindness for Eddie. She's not entirely selfish.
But poor thing dies ever so lonely that she has to admit living a life with an imaginary boyfriend.
I bet she speaks to millions of women today. Even after highschool, I've seen so many women in relationships with deadbeats that neglect their women.
Luckily, they got enough drugs and alcohol to hide their low self-esteem. :/

Strangely enough while zapping on TV, in Paramount Channel, a movie called "Dinner for Schmucks" happened to be on, and we started watching it, and.. coincidentally, it started.. with music that seemed strangely familiar to me. Because.. the score for this movie, by Theodore Shapiro, happens to be the score they used in the first trailer of Zootopia, the one with the DMV scene. I imagine the cost to have it play even the slightest in every episode would cost them a fortune.
I find horror tv tend to use wild themes.
Almost like it's horror/fantasy. Or more fantasy.
Ash VS Evil Dead has a fun theme. But it's a comedy/horror. It's meant to get adrenaline pumped.
I've not watched any of the Exorcist series yet.
It's on Plex and up to date.
My one friend is liking the show a lot.
I'm more or less waiting for the half-time period or the season to finish before watching it.
I prefer to binge a season and then take breaks inbetween seasons.
Except Bob's Burgers. That I binged too quickly for my own good.
Now I only have 3 episodes left before the next episode airs.
Even longer for the soundtrack to come out.
gururu

^^Possibly.
Still, Tubular casts a very long shadow, probably the last thing a producer wants to have hanging over his show. That said, Tubular was implemented once into the pilot, used like a call sign for new viewers.

It's your bread basket.
