Just finished watching The Help, at last! I've been meaning to see it for a long while ever since Hack3rman posted his covers which got me into Tom Newman's beautiful score. That, and Emma Stone, got me very interested. And the film did not disappoint. It was very powerful, and very moving. I don't normally cry at films, but I can't deny those tears that slipped out in a couple of scenes. The cast were all superb.

Definitely a keeper.

My problem with that movie is that I could never figure out who the main character was supposed to be.

I decided in my own mind to make the antagonist the main character, since she's the only one connected to every event in the film.

I see what you mean, but that's actually one reason why I liked it. To me, that made it feel more... real. Life is never just focused on one person. Whenever something happens, whenever an event occurs, whenever a movement is started, it's never about just one person, even if they're the one that started it/caused it to happen. The movie felt like a snapshot of a real event.

You're absolutely right. And that's why real life is never like the movies. There's never just one sole person that's connected to everything, all parties are involved.

That scene with Skeeter and her mum was heart-breaking. The stellar acting from Stone, combined with Newman's 2:59 - 3:59 in 6m2 was unbearably perfect. I knew from the moment I heard that cue for the first time that it had to be a very moving part in the film and boy was I right.

I assume the original.
The sequels just got worse and worse. 2 was okay. 3 had its moments. 4 was a TV movie, iirc.
And, I believe there was a TV-movie remake of the first one?
You can find DVD boxsets that include them for a Pentology.
Sextology if you include the horrid remake.

The remake only has good music to it and a few neat, modern special effects (the mirror scene).
The acting ruins their careers to no end.
But, the story goes that the studio burned down and the whole film with it so they had to reshoot the entire film a second time. Every scene, every dialogue, every voice dubbing session. No wonder they looked like crap for the whole movie. Schrieber probably wans't trying to imitate Peck; he was probably just worn out, exhausted and had given up to do anything.

:this: Don't know why they're making a remake to Big Trouble In Little China.
Carpenter wants to get paid for it, Russell doesn't know why they're doing it but wishes them luck.
The Rock is going to be in it... cheesy dialogue: check.
The action... is going to be different... Just because he's attached to it. Just because. :/
The Rundown is was as its own movie.
But I can't imagine his screen-candor would do any good for the remake. Guaranteed Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee will be attached.

Just watched the Faculty (1998) directed by Robert Rodriguez...
it's been a while since I've seen it but it's a pretty fun alien invasion movie a-la The Puppet Masters (Robert A. Heinlein).
What made me laugh is the fact that Rodriguez is such a huge director now and yet he didn't catch the numerous time the boom-mic was in the shot. :p

It Annoys Me That There Is No Official DVD Release For Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, I Wish There Was A Way to Get Score From It.

At Least Once Upon A Time S1-4 Have A DVD, I Need to Wait Until Next Year For Even 1 Track From S5 :(

One Way Or Another I Will Find A Way to Rip Each Episode Of Music!!!!

For Example I Would Love A More Clean Version Of The Scene Where Neal Dies In S3 And When Belle Banishes Rumpel In Season 4.

I'm sure someone could check if the show was broadcast in 5.1 and then acquire HDTV recordings that feature the 5.1 audio and rip some of the score for you. It wouldn't be too difficult a thing to do. (I do it with Doctor Who when a new episode is broadcast) I'd be willing to help, but I'm pretty useless when it comes to properly editing 5.1 rips of music.

And, as this is what the thread is for, I'm currently listening to all that has been released for Star Wars Rebels. (Including the latest episode)

I don't think 5.1 audios of HDTVs are to be trusted. *shrugs*
Why? It's better than nothing. (Or having to wait for official releases) There's some shows I know that were broadcast in 5.1 but were only ever officially released in stereo, so the 5.1 audio from HDTV recordings are the only way to rip/acquire the scores.

Still listening to Star Wars Rebels music.

Typical. At least Mel Gibson got it right with The Passion. That whole film feels so real (because it is real. Oh wait sorry, everyone, because I choose to believe it's real) and the fact that the entire film is in Ancient Aramaic only adds to the realness.

I still liked the first one better, but A Game of Shadows was good. I'll never forget seeing it opening night with my brother. It was actually the midnight show. He fell asleep and at an important scene when it was very quiet, let out a very LOUD snore. I lost it. I nudged him to wake him up and almost pissed myself.

I think a 3rd is planned, it just needs a script. And RDJ's involvement with Marvel probably plays a huge factor.

Killgrave
10-30-2015, 05:30 AM
A Game of Shadows was a missed opportunity. It should have been to the first film, what The Dark Knight was to Batman Begins. Instead, AGoS was more Holmes & Watson's European Hangover. Warners, IMO, rushed the film into production to capitalize on the success of the first movie, had a script that was only half-baked and hoped no one noticed. (Rapace was wasted in her role.)

And it doesn't help that the film is competing with Moffat's take on Sherlock, and again IMO, Cumberbatch, Freeman and Mofatt beat the snot out of RDJ, Law and Ritchie.

EDIT: ABOUT SHERLOCK HOLMES
I love the first one. Excellent introduction of the duo.
Second one was mostly fun. A lot more room to play with the camera.
The whole breaking out of the bad guy's camp was all just pure, fun action.
The slow motion was unlike anything I've ever seen before. Ritchie has a nice vision and displays it creatively.
The music really got a workout in the second one. Mixing with opera, warping the song for the torture scene. I really love "To The Opera!" a lot.

Just finished watching "Operation Dinner Out" *wink wink* *hint hint*

Watching Big Hero 6 right now.

I'm finding Halloween season overrated.
Anything you want to watch, watch it alone. Fuck anyone's opinion.
What you want to watch means nothing compared to other people's opinion.
And, you might as well stick to SD DVD.
No one's going to fucking know you used an HD source.
It bares little in today's age. Even though the industry is gearing towards 4K (for no reason except a lot bitch because they wasted money on 4K TV's).

The only nice thing?
TV series taking advantage of the season.
which none do.
Bones was severely disappointing. Complete scifi bullshit. I don't buy it.
Just let X-Files start up again and fuck Bones.

Hmmm, too bad, thanks for having a look.

Wasn't so much a "look" as an "observation".
Since no one is uploading it means anyone who is, is really doing shit encodes on an-already encoded source.
So whatever anyone downloads from a public torrent site is really getting a third-generation encode.
Which is pure shit.
That's like buying iTunes music and encoding it to MP3-V0 then encoding that to MP3@320.

You go swimming in public waters, you're bound to catch shit.
Literally. Figuratively. Realistically. Scientifically.

One of the reasons why Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated is one of the best Scooby Doo shows. :p

I wonder how that did escape the censors.

Watching Hocu Pocus every Halloween!

I wanted to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas.. but unfortunately I lost the chance and time to watch it.

Had I a BD disc reader to my laptop I would watch it there

I've seen every episode of the show. I would have remembered that scene if I'd seen it. :p

The character design doesn't look anything like SD!MI either.

It's probably from one of the DTVs.

PonyoBellanote
10-31-2015, 04:44 PM
SD MI still is a very darn good show though. The episodes I saw random were pretty nice.. and honestly I'm just waiting so much til Warner releases this show on BD.. like Thundercats.. to watch it fully.

Or unless someone has very good 1080i or 1080p from iTunes rips. Might have to look rutracker.

I don't remember their designs being like that. I prefer the design from the pciture :P

Mystery Incorporated is genius, yeah. Very rewarding to rewatch... all 52 episodes form one great story arc, and going back you can see all the hints and foreshadowing even in the earliest episodes. It's amazing.

Yes, exactly, I really got a good vibe from the random episodes I've watched. RUtracker does have good 1080p rips of the show. I'll put them on my list and watch them sometime.

Oh yes, that album, I discovered it months ago when I started watching Steven's Universe. They're good but I honestly prefer and like MUCH more the piano parts rather than the bit music.

It's definitely the strong part of the song. Meh, i hope they will release some of the Steven Universe Music officially,
i am rather unwilling to accept 128 kbps Soundcloud Rips.

Yeah.. and it might be a little disheartening to see the cast so aged.

But if they could come back - come back strong - it'd be amazing, to say the least.

Watched The Avengers followed (after dinner) by Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole - my sister hadn't seen either.

Both films were even better second time around for me, particularly Guardians. I have to say, it's probably the most beautiful film I've seen. The animation is superb, and it's so clear just how much effort was put into making the film a visual spectacular. The music is also absolutely gorgeous. Great to hear the score in context again.

The film version of "To The Sky" (Owl City) is really lovely - lots of extra orchestration. :)

Tomorrow evening, it'll finally be time for Iron Man 3.
