I really wouldn't be surprised if someone has taken upon the task of editing the films together in a chronologically-correct arrangement.

Ahhh dude 3 is when we start finding out why all this shit is happening. It's fully explained. 4 wasn't necessary, The Marked Ones kinda was (story-wise, none of these films are "necessary" lol). To Grandma's house we go!
In Ghost Dimension, we finally see Toby in his demonic form. Not sure if I want to see that, as the most horrifying thing about all the films is you never see him. That, and also the fact (that for me, anyway) that demonic posession is totally possible. These movies strike me to my core, and that's why they really scare me.
Yep. That's a part of what scared the shit out of me - is that these sort of occurrences are possible and there are records of their happening (I believe, but I'd rather not :p).
And, well, damn, with all this new hard drive space, I'll surely be getting these pretty damn soon. Netflix was in fact how I watched the first. I'll see if it happens to be on there now. (edit: nope, but Paranormal Whacktivity is, though.)

This cue is an absolute beauty.
Though, admittedly, when I imagine a string section performing this (the main melody)...forget about it.
...Which this should've had, by the way. Following it's original ending, it could've perhaps been fleshed out to something more, along with a longer duration, strings in the forefront, and with at least a little development or variation of the melody. It would've been heavenly.
Maybe it's expected with how the narrative of a film could limit a piece and what it does.

Comparatively to most other shows that traverse by 45 minutes or so, 39 episodes is poor. 39 episodes is about just a bit more than one traditional season. And it's also worse if the story wasn't properly concluded.

Not counting the 17 seasons of SVU, five seasons of Grimm, and however many decades of SNL. It was amazing to me because of the subject matter and how the series approached it. It ventured into some dark terrain with relish. This wasn't Dexter killing killers this was Hannibal making meals of the guilty and the innocent. If Hannibal had done a Dexter it would probably still be on air.

The only tragedy there is the writing team's crappy skills, who can't figure out how open-ended closure works. Or if they think that audiences need a cliffhanger or some similar reason to return to the show after a hiatus, the show isn't worth renewing in the first place.

Holy shit. Now this is brilliant. I was met with such a beautifully elegant melody upon listening to this; chill-inducing for certain; and its 'flowing' succession of notes is really effective from how much it's of that mesmerizing 'sweeping' quality that's just too amazing to me. Almost makes want to die or something.
This cue's also a lot like El Cid's 'Love Theme'(?) in almost every respect; like tempo and style and such; even sharing quite a few of the same notes. I definitely had the right idea to steer towards this track, thinking I might like it, partly on behalf of its title, but I didn't expect something in anyway similar to Rzsa's El Cid and it's finesse. Pleasantly surprised. And even the higher-register brass towards the end were really similar to alike moments from El Cid.
And by God, strings express the whichever certain kind of emotion flawlessly as no other instrument does, and it's sound (especially of larger string sections), especially of this cue in particular, I am in love with :p
Yes, I am aware that I'm babbling on, but I don't really care. ;)
To add: from what I've happened to read of this game's score, and the amazing piece show above, I might soon have a mind to put this up there with Outcast and Medal of Honor. It may be a very strong contender.

Inferno was good.
A little predictable if you've watched enough of these movies.
Instead of giant pieces of the puzzle we've seen in the earlier movies where they're artifacts and treasures, they've employed a lot of small details in front of you for deception. The puzzle becomes more personal.
Nice imagery for the visions.

RE: Deathly Hollows...
Wasn't it all obvious from the first film?
I don't know what's different from book to film, but it really feels like that Voldemort should have known better from the very start since all the rules are well known by everyone.
It seems like there was a lot of difficulty ending the series. It was all standard and very poor.
But the graphics, music and action were great.
I like the fan theories about the films.
Don't know if they invovle the books, but it's good enough for me as a movie watcher.
I just took Voldemort as a poorly created villain for the sake of a handicap for the children to win, since the target audience was children.

The movie does indeed turn into a summer blockbuster, which I can get behind, but knowing the books, I can't but feel like things were pretty rushed on Part 2 (and drawn out on Part 1). Especially knowing how the earlier films went. Still, I'm pretty forgiving, so it doesn't bother me much.

• The Mirror of Erised? It shows exactly what one desires in the mirror. Different results for every person.
• Voldemort disintegrates because his new body was 'artificial', and therefore magically unstable.
• The screen is dark, because
1. It's mostly meant to be seen in a dark environment, not during the day, but definitely in theaters.
2. 'Deathly' = dark; in my opinion.
3. Get glasses, Harry had 'em. ;)
• Probably based on the fact that it's difficult to appeal to all kinds of audiences and flow a story chronologically, when the story has been separated into so many different flicks.
• Aberforth was a Half-Blood, so probably had some type of connection to the storyline following the Half-Blood Prince. He was Albus' brother, why was Ron's brothers and sisters or even Harry's time at home included in the films? Because he was a very important character, and we needed to understand the background of his life and how he was treated around the house. Dumbledore, in my eyes, is just as important as Harry Potter is. He's like the 'Dean' or the 'Principal' of the entire school/university, whatever you want to call it. He was also the owner of Hog's Head Inn in Hogsmeade, so why would he not at least appear in the story at all if Harry, Ron, and Hermione were all hiding there? I don't know, but I think he was an important character.

So much happens everyone I know who watched the movies and not read the books, all share one thing in common:
They never remember and never care about the mirror shard.
It gets asked once, but as soon as the scene changes, we just stop caring that it happened.
They way they shoot those scenes, it doesn't really matter or mean anything.
Just a wallpaper screenshot moment.
Who cares why Voldemort flakes. It's a movie. They need visuals and something lasting for the memory.
If he just vanished, I'd feel ripped off. I paid to see it. Give me something visually stunning.
Yes, it's dark. But, that's a common problem for a lot of home media.
Blacker than black was added to bluray since everyone started buying HD TV's with super contrast and other placebo magic effects.
The standard convention used to be that the luminance levels of a video (overall combined brightness/contrast) would be limited to 16-235 on a scale from 0-255.
That would be called "TV levels" on an 8-bit video scale.
10-bit video can go higher. Just multiply everything by 256. Except the maximum is 256*256 (65536) instead of 255*256 (65280). For coding reasons or something technical I don't need to know.
Anything outside of "TV levels/range" is considered "PC" levels/range.
You'd have to re-encode the whole movie with the levels clamped to legal TV ranges to get a better picture.
Except this can tend to wash out the blacks and ruin the image.
Most blurays have an actual range of... 8-255.
The 8-15 range gives the blacks more details and appear more black than we're used to in the old days.
I don't know what makes the editing shoddy. If the action was too fast, blame the asshat who got an academy award for jerking the camera around for American actors who can't fight fast enough as Hong Kong action stars (who earned their speeds).
The Bourne Ultimatum was a good movie. But the camera work was all cheating techniques because the actors can't fight. Shake, jerk and time it so the punches look heavier and faster.
I never remember Aberforth. I do remember my mom saying he was useless in the movie.
She even said that Harry Potter was useless and it should be all about Hermione and the others.
Harry did the least in those movies total.
Fan theories suggest that he didn't even kill Voldemort but it was really the one they pick on that's responsible for everything and the real hero.
Alas, that is Hollywood.
Make a scene for the sake of a screenshot and a trailer buildup.
They probably wanted fans to wet themselves: *GASP* "The mirror! Oooh I'm going to cum!"

Yeah, I was talking about the mirror shard.
NOW I remember why Aberforth was in the film. They needed a character on the other side of the mirror. In the books, the fact that it's Aberforth has meaning. But not in the movies.
Shoulda had it be McGonagall or something for the film adaptation, if they were going to introduce Dumbledore's brother but never do anything with him. :noonecares:

but definitely in theaters
The levels of a dark film are more easily to see in theaters than home media.
I remember quite a few films where it was easy to see everything in theaters, but bluray and dvd have to crush levels severely.
Theater uses absolute colors so they don't need to convert down to smaller sets.
Bluray uses BT.709 colormatrix was is extremely small compared to other standards.
DVD uses Bt.601 but you won't see too much of a difference. More of a difference between red and orange.
But a lot of movies on bluray need tweaking just to see the details.
Which was observed in theaters, so it is the director's intent (for the purists) that those be seen.
I know the first part where Voldemort graverobs for the wand is extremely dark on bluray.
That's a movie that has to be sequenced to fix dark scenes.

I sometimes forget how the internet can get pretty involved in Harry Potte discussion. Aren't I glad to be more like a casual to not care about issues others keep having (this isn't a "feeling superior" thing, btw).

• Voldemort disintegrates because his new body was 'artificial', and therefore magically unstable.
Actually this makes sense, never thought about it that way.
It's mostly meant to be seen in a dark environment, not during the day, but definitely in theaters.
That's no excuse. If the film is unwatchable on home media, you change the film's color grading and lighting. WB can't be bothered to spend an extra nickle on anything though, so I shouldn't be surprised.
Aberforth was a Half-Blood, so probably had some type of connection to the storyline following the Half-Blood Prince. He was Albus' brother, why was Ron's brothers and sisters or even Harry's time at home included in the films? Because he was a very important character, and we needed to understand the background of his life and how he was treated around the house. Dumbledore, in my eyes, is just as important as Harry Potter is.
Aberforth had nothing to do with HBP... that was all Snape.
That's another thing Yates and Mark Day botched... why is Snape the Half-Blood Prince? No explanation at all.
The fact that the DH films lack Aberforth's backstory shows how little he mattered to the core plot. He's a literal goat-fucker and a drunk anyway. Nothing of value would be lost by cutting out his character entirely.

Actually, this is based on the economy of TV purchasing habits.
You're just one of the people who didn't buy a well graded TV.
Remember, Michael Bay transfered Transformers: Dark of the Moon personally and he did it as right as he can.
It's just most of the consumer market has no real regulation and anyone can take shortcuts, put a sale sticker on the tv and water down the industry.
Even if you "felt" you spent a lot, you still haven't spent "enough".
The best way to get on the same level for most movies is to buy an expensive doohickey to calibrate your TV screen.
Believe me, WB and every other distributor out there has put thought into the lunimence levels for movies on bluray.
They cater to the rich who *can*.
If they crushed the blacks, it'd look much worse, believe me.
If they crushed the blacks to cater to a universal poorness of the technology, anyone who bought a good tv would complain.
There's no real level ground for home media.
TheSkeletonMan939

I appreciate that WB gives its BDs transfers which are accurate to the source, but at the same time there needs to be a middle ground.
No one likes "remote riding" for the volume, and I feel like I shouldn't have to be doing that but for my TV brightness.
In the end though, it's always a battle between purists and casuals.
I can only imagine what the DVD version of this film must look like. O_O

Christmas holidays are the worst for buying a TV.
The ones that go on sale the most are the cheapest tv's that actually ruin the playback experience.
They're the ones everyone buys because they can pinch a penny.
But, in the end, everything looks washed out and the colors are not right.
I want to buy a new monitor, but all the ones I'm looking at, I have to second guess.
I've literally spent 3 days looking at different stores online and reading the specs and thinking to myself if I really like it or not.
Should I save up for a different monitor that costs more and has better luminance ratios? Or should I care more about the response rate? Should I try go for a 144Hz monitor??
Pick one, lose the rest that presents accuracy.
I can either go for gaming and get better timings but lose colors, or go for movies and get better colors but lose response rate.
I watch movies and do video editing.
So I want the colors.
But I also use SVP to interpolate the frame rate, so I'd like the response time as well.
For all of that, I'd have to spend quite a pretty penny meant for more for profressional grading for video and photo and actually calibrate my monitor with a doodad.

Probably better on DVD for brightness since the compression is bigger.
DVD uses old MPEG-2 encoding standards so studios would likely respect TV ranges of 16 for blacks instead of 8.
I think TV's should start adopting volume normalization standards that are free and open source.
If they can do it for music on the fly, they can do it for movies.
The problem with normalization on TV's is that you can't control the properties like attack/release timings.
Which make *all* the difference.
I love playing off the PC because Windows has a powerful compresser that normalizes to the point where you don't have to reach for the volume.
People have asked Plex to start including some normalization for transcoding. But Plex won't. They leave that to the playing device.
Gaming consoles don't much to offer for dynamic range compression, if at all.
TV's generally have one preset for the DRC.
Even if they were to just normalize the downmixing matrices for 5.1 to 2.0, that would help a lot.

In complete agreement. It's a favorite sitcom of mine for a reason. Quite similar to even Seinfeld, in the way of how each of the characters are pretty much a menace to society and can only tolerate each other, and belong in their own 'bubble' of bewildered perception. :p

No offense to ManRay, but 'fur real' is much worse. We've heard that one before, very often. It's an oldie. And in no way do I see it as better than "Takes One to Rogue One" or "Bazed and Confused" (which I think are some of Michael's best yet)
But let's face it; in the end, no pun is really ever so clever. Most if not all are pathetic or simply stupid, but that's the point.

The point we realize that each of our opinions of puns and more particularly, Giacchino's puns, are highly subjective, is the point we should come to peace and know that there is no need, for pun control.

I think best to disagree rather than say it as if it's a fact. Beginning a statement with 'I think' is 10x better and clears up any misunderstandings. How you state and word your opinion means everything in a case like this, that's why we're even talking about it.
And I can't entirely disagree, and do think some of them are 'eh', but this one's so far down the trash hole I've decided to give up reaching for it.

It gets annoying after more than 10 years. And I'm not bias. If it were Williams or HZ, I'd be saying the same thing. The puns are enough. I'm thankful the official cues on the Rogue One OST were unpuntiful, but he still managed to get them in the booklet. Wouldn't be surprised if that's in his contract.

Hmm. I'd never consider the amount of years he'd have in naming his puns. Even so, he doesn't often really give every single cue title a pun (though Rogue One might've been too forced in that regard), so it could be a lot worse.
Even so, I'm far more tolerant of puns than most, so it'll never be an issue with me. I'm probably weird like that.
I guess it's just an art form that people have no pun with.

He specifically mentioned his team in the Rogue One booklet, so that's pretty likely.
I'd say we drop this "pun" thing (and potentially more Giacchino hate) now. We've given it too much attention now.

Saw Arrival. Score only makes an impression because of sheer volume during the first entrance into the spacecraft, otherwise it barely registers.
And I'm probably in the minority thinking the film isn't really all that great.
