Yes, it should be cue when speaking of a score track and song when speaking of an OST track.
People often use the broad term soundtrack (OST) when they mean score...very confusing.

So then I would assume that many labels are making that mistake as well, i.e. it should probably be "Original Motion Picture Score" rather than "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack"?

I don't why the film wasn't just called Jurassic Park II: The Lost World or Jurassic Park: The Lost World.
For a very short while it did use to be just TLW as its title.
I had to get used to seeing it with JP attached the end.
I imagine they threw that in to undermine the audiences.
Studios: "They're so dumb, they don't know it's a sequel to JP. Throw it on there so they can point and go 'oooh' and we can all laugh!"
Or for legal reasons to separate themselves from the Sir Arther Conan Doyle's novel of the same name (which Crichton admits stealing the title as an homage).
Layers: "They're so dumb, they don't know who wrote TLW first. Throw it on there so you look like you're calling your viewers dumb. It'll be on all the lunchboxes and tshirts and then we can point and laugh at the studios!"
I like just TLW. I'm fairly intelligent enough to distinguish from the two sources.
Even having the year and John William's name is enough to know what's going on.
It's the same thing they're doing with Batman V Superman.
The only reason they titled that was to let audiences know they're watching a batman/superman movie.
Moreso, a Justice League movie.
But who is the JL, the average movie-goer asks (which dominate the monopoly on box office seats)? It's Batman & Superman. And others.
So let's put BVS in the title to stir up excitment for the average viewer who doesn't watch the animated series nor does not read the comics. They're the basis of the franchises' goal for more money.
Speaking of...
I just watched the Ultimate edition.
It's Zach Snyder of Watchmen & Super Sucker. Punch thingy.
It's not Zach Snyder of Man of Steel & Dawn of the Dead remake.
It's the extreme polar opposite.
For MoS, he made a movie that average viewers watch.
For BvS, he made art that people pay to sit and stare at.
Eisengberg sucks.
He was best at the end of the movie. For one scene only. Well, two. Same building, different places.
The score really made the movie.
I only tolerated Eisenberg because the violin was psychotically overwhelming and took over the narration of the film.
The Ultimate cut is the only one I've watched.
I imagine the Theatrical is a narrative nightmare.
Way too late to join the Marvel game for establishing a super hero team.
The cameo didn't make sense and is quickly forgotten as it has no further exposition on why it happened.
Come the Justice League movie, they'll get back to that. So that's all it's good for.
No one has patience to wait out 5 years for it to come full circle.
Dawn of Justice has a perfect start taking off from MoS.
Because MoS wasn't filmed to expect you to look for a future reference like seeing Ben Affleck in the background at the end of MoS.
That's how you connect things.
The rest of the cameos still don't make up for the first odd cameo. That connection still has not ever been established.
Only to comic readers and fans of the animated features. They can guess better.
BvS, great film. I don't care what's wrong with the dialogue or why everyone suddenly hates David S. Goyer when everyone prayed he would be attached to all 3 of Nolan's TDK trilogy.
Eisenberg was everything wrong with the film.
The rest around him was compelling.
It's not meant to be up for any Academy Awards. It served it's purpose if you know who Zach Snyder really is.
And Man of Steel is not Zach Snyder.
His career is a case study for film making.

And Man of Steel is not Zach Snyder.
His career is a case study for film making.
Look, I'm not really familiar with Snyder's career. All I see is Dawn of the Dead being his most well received movie. Everything else is moderate to very negative. Not the best career to have.
Man of Steel, while ripping off Nolan, had its own goals and pretty much succeeds in them. Then Superman snaps Zod's neck. Everything falls apart, considering it was a last minute twist for shock value.
Eisenberg was one of the best things in the movie. His portrayal is very fresh, considering we've been stuck with Hackman, though that's still a better portrayal. To have a character like that in a very bleak movie really helped in getting in the mood. I know people say he's basically The Joker, but he's entertaining regardless.
The score, like always, is a thing I have to evaluate outside the film in order to really appreciate it. Though I like Batman's and Wonder Woman's themes, as well as returning ones from Man of Steel, I haven't considered the rest. I'm also really disappointed they didn't bring back Superman's main theme.
Theatrical had really choppy editing at the beginning, so I don't know if that's fixed.
I definitely agree on that part. It should've just been Man of Steel 2, not Justice League 0.5.
Opening was nice, but that's about it.
It wasn't a great film. Everyone was a psychopath and not really a character. Nothing made sense. Overblown as hell. Needed more work done. Just awful.
Are you sure it didn't aim for Academy Awards? They kept claiming the movie was "too smart," when it was pretty dumb.
Man of Steel ain't Zack Synder, but it was closer to a good movie.
His career should be studied as one that only made things look pretty. That's it.

Where do you get this technology and how does it work?
I use Avisynth scripting to interpolate frames to higher frame rates.
SVP "Smooth Video Project" created a front-end/GUI to do it all for you.
https://www.svp-team.com/w/index.php?title=Main_Page
( I joined their funding campaign so paid about $5 less than what the price is now )
( Pro works best as it allows customization for better quality interpolation )
I just set it to double the frame rate. Default is set to the refresh rate of your monitor.
So I set my monitor to 23.976*3, which comes up to 71.928.
Double of most NTSC movies I have would be 2/3 of my refresh rate. Still a multiple of the refresh rate so it looks smoother.
I can't do 60Hz for monitors anymore.
SVP interpolation can be done in MPC-HC, MPC-BE and just recently added support for VLC.
Plus MAC and Linux.
But Windows + MPC is more stable.
Other versions are still in early development.
It relies on x86 processing.
it's been updated for x64, but it might not be as stable.
x64 Avisynth development is only recently getting more active development under the new-age development-fork in "Avisynth+".
Official "Avisynth x64" is completely dead and superceded by AVS+.
I still use x86. Their implementation of AVS+ is very recent, and still very unstable.
x86 is very stable, so why not.
They allow frame-caching with OpenCL graphics drivers.
I have an NVidia GTX 750ti, which does 1080p very well at double the rate.
I also use MadVR as the renderer, too.
To prevent frame drops, I can't have insane settings like 'anti-ringing' and have to lower the chromaresampling filter to something like spline.
Which doesn't really show much of a difference, anyway.
The "Chromadepth" glasses, I ordered online. Spent about $30 total after conversion rates and S&H from US to Canada. :/
I'm down to 2 pairs out of 3.
I like them.
They're mainly meant for ugly pictures that are solid-based colors. Like all those neon paintings on black felt posters.
In the rainbow spectrum, red is drawn closer to you and creates a 3D image.
It's not authentic 3D, but nothing is these days. Only Avatar 2-100 will be.
It also produces a rainbow refraction on certain shots like a silhouette of any person. You get used to it and not even see it.
They got an "HD" version that's meant for watching TV/movies. The thinner ones are pictures.
I really don't like any of the intended content for Chromadepth 3D. Very limited in use and execution.
I've watched so many movies with the 3D glasses and they give nearly the same results as watching a 2D movie on an LG 3D TV that converts on the fly.
The only difference is that 3D TV conversions can allow for much deeper depth (away from the screen, not much popping out).
To get more depth from the Chromadepth, you have to adjust hue to more red or blue. Increase saturation. Change gamma to make it darker.
Pulfrich glasses rely on movement and shadow details. White is pulled out to you and black away from you, creating stereoscopic effect.
It's better for movies where the director likes to spin the camera a lot or pan everything.
Pulfrich doesn't refract rainbows into your eyes, but it also requires movement. Still images go back to being 2D.
Either way, they look fancy.
Definitely a lot cheaper than 3D TV that does the exact same thing.
I meant the Hans Zimmer one. I love John Williams work more, but Zimmer's is still a likable theme, I guess it didn't fit BvS.
The little I did hear of Zimmer in BVS was more of a distant memory.
Some odd places to have it, which makes it more of a Kryptonian theme more than a personalized Superman theme.
Almost like the entirety of MOS was just a screen test.
Someone clearly hasn't been given the right material to understand Superman.
Nope. I've watched the Chrisopher Reeve films, I've watched a bit of the animated feature films.
They're just not that appealing to me.
Brainiac movie was just okay.
I find Superman to be best with the Justice League and not as a stand-alone.
MOS was a fluke. Considering how not-well-recieved ZS is in general, it's a fluke on so many levels.
It's a Meta fluke.

Interpolation on animation requires tweaking.
Certain shots will create a lot of visible artefacts. But still not quite as bad as all the examples online from a hundred years ago.
Yeesh. I forgot how terrible the banding can get for these. And interpolating frames just enchances the banding.
They ought to re-release all these on UHD-BD. Get the 10bit video as a studio source and be free of banding.
I don't know how they could transfer most of their movies with such horirble banding. Were they counting on players to have extremely sophisticated debanding technology?

For some reason, the main themes for all 3 of the Medal of Honor games Lennertz scored, have always given me that 'big movie' feel. In a good way, reminding me of how feels to see a movie in a theater, the way the music sounds... it's sort of hard to describe.
Finding Nemo and its music does it for me too.

I need to do a proper rewatch of Judgement Day. Haven't seen it in full since that one party from years ago and I never got to finish my various attempts to watch it again (Netflix were very cheeky to remove it when I hadn't finished, so I had to buy it).

I wasn't trying to imply it was a bad thing to buy it. I was only frustrated that Netflix removed it, since I would've had a more convenient way of watching it (though I still saw the first one on it). I buy movies only when either I enjoy them or really warrant it. And T2 earns a place in my collection, since I have a very vivid memory of it.
Now, my issue is that the Blu-ray I got was pretty bare bones. The 2015 release of it removed quite a few things. Ia there like a definitive version of it, with all many special features and extras? At least mine came with a Digital Copy.

most of Judgement Day releases are just repackaging.
Most are VC-1, lots of DNR applied. (waste of money)
One, old MPEG-2 transfer. Might be better than VC-1 transfer.
One AVC transfer that only has 2 cuts of the film and not all 3 cuts.
Just wait until they announce it for a UHD-BD remaster. They're likely to remaster for regular BD in AVC instead of VC-1.
And maybe they won't DNR it this time.

The video is the same DNR transfer, I believe.
But DTS Headphone:X is the sell point.
I should look for that version.

Listening to Ritmanis's Mystery of the Batwoman.
I think she was still getting accustomed to mimicking orchestral sounds with samples. It's nowhere near as convincing as her work even just a few years later on Justice League Unlimited.
The score is very similar to Walker's Mask of the Phantasm, but a little less tight. Themes stumble in and out whereas Walker took control of them.

DTS Headphone:X is a stereo mix.
It's downmixed differently to play back on any heapdhones to simulate surround sound through headphones.
There's no way to bring it back to discrete surround sound after this.
You can hack it to 5.1, but don't know how well that will work. There would be a lot of bleeding, as the DTSH:X is meant to really envelope you in immersive surround sound.
INFINITE COSMIC POWER! Itty bittly living space.
Great for late night viewings when you don't want to wake anyone up.
Also great for the most discrete sound to your ears without any external influences. Hear everything.
"Descriptive Audio" tracks for blind people are always stereo in AC3 at low bitrates.
It seems the 2015 remaster has the DTS H:X track in lossless stereo. Which is odd. Usually DTS@1506 core or even DTS@768 is sufficient for DTSH:X tracks.

Canada is having troubles trying to moderate imported anime.
There's been lawsuits and convictions placed on certain anime being imported.
"Context" is a huge part of it.
With the rest of this series focusing on panty shots and suggestive genital contact, it's in no way PG-13 for Canada.
Superman wasn't created for churchy pedophiles though.
Japan is known for anime thats made for pedophiles. All the themes imply more than light sexuality in regards to minors in these perversions.

Anime feels like it was made as a loophole to bypass human child pornography.
The anime I usually watch is horror stuff. With guns. With adults. Any nudity or suggestive sexuality is focused on adult characters and strays from involving some adult pig trying to turn himself into a pair of panties for a teenager to wear.

I imagine that one MPEG-2 bluray uses the same transfer as the D-Theater, though.
I don't see much preference for the HD-DVD version. Usually those get better transfers before studios "remaster" for bluray.

We can't be assuming this about every single anime. It's just the most common and stereotypical statements to make. And yet, there's still legit entertainment to have in the big mess.
What they're referring to is a copy of the movie one can only access on Windows Media Player (an older one being used, at that). It's not a legitimate HD-DVD, but I guess it was a studio trying to find a way to fit in HD at the time.
The article didn't seem to have technical detail, but it was a picture quality vs. content thing that left the contest in a tie between the Extreme and Ultimate Editions.

It's hard to find stuff that doesn't go borderline child pornography.
I like mech stuff because it's extremely rare to see such debauchery of minors.

One of the big attractions of disc two is "T2: High-Definition". This is the theatrical cut of Terminator 2 presented in Windows Media 9 format that you need to view on your PC. If your monitor supports the resolution, you can see it in the full 1920x1080 res, but you'll need a monster PC to run it. The recommended requirements call for a Pentium 4 3ghz, 512MB of RAM, an internet connection (to activate Media Player's Digital Rights Management), a 128MB video card, and a multi-channel soundcard.
This is from the T2 Extreme Edition. I'm curious to see how it holds up, since IGN did talk about the picture in reasonable detail, though without the encoding information. This is from 2003 though, so it might not be as functional as it once was. (ex: the early Harry Potter DVDs have DVD-ROM content, but when I tried to access them, I couldn't get it to work. Spider-Man is also one, but that one should still work, surprisingly).

re: conducting and orchestration
For the former, Walker stood at a podium and directed the performance of a live orchestra. For the latter, a composer provided Walker with his/her written/printed score, whether fully notated or just a a few bars delineating chords, melody and rhythm and, like a painter using colour, assigned instruments, kind and number, as deemed necessary to achieve the composers intended effect.

The Mist 2007
Found a movie playlist that works for creating dreams.
I dreamt something everyone belonging to a section of the city and there was a giant green tenticle creature that lived underground and was friendly to its residents. He would move them around if they needed.
Unless they were evil. It was a lot like the magic puff cloud in Dragon Ball that only let those "pure of heart" ride it.
Some guy, strangely enough, was played by Tom Felton, turned out to be some scumbag  and got his head bitten off. The green tenticle grabbed him and brought him to some industrial trash chute where some creatue came up and ate his head clean off.
There was other stuff that happened.
I think the way how The Mist is done to not be loud all the way through has an impact.
The score for the film is only really loud when there's action in the movie. The end, too. But the rest of the movie has low-volume score.
I should remux the first Alien movie and line it up with Prometheus for tonight's adventure.

The ending always just kills me. I couldn't stand it
Indeed! Marcia Gay Harden's role is laughable. Roles like that you don't need to be an actor. You just improvise being a lunatic and using everything around you as a weapon.
"Oh it was the scientists". Unbearable.
She's not a religious nut.
I imagine her character being a criminal and finding religion then just using it as her criminal profile allows.
She strikes me as a compulsive liar who knows how to talk to people to get of situations.
The people we root for can see through it so they don't join her cult.
The stupid and gullible people are perfect for her victimology. They're the ones she knows how to talk to them to get them on her side for her own passion.
By the time they get around to killing the military guy, she's desperate to keep her crowd believing her so she resorts to childish antics like repeating everything in a such a way to make it sound dumb. "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh it was the scientists! Ah-doi!!".
Religion didn't make her the criminal she is.
She was already messed up and vile at heart. She just uses religion as a conduit to serve her purpose and get others to enact on her wishes.
:changspew: I really burst out laughing when that one dumb woman started believing Marcia Gay Harden's character.
"She was right." What a load.
Society is still like that today.
Any small doubt and they'll start looking up to the nearest person around them.
At a job, at school, anywhere where there is room for a dynamic group, some will just give up and follow anyone who talks the loudest.
I see that all the time in life.
And it's always something so petty that turns into people flocking to groups to form a condemning clique.
I've seen people frothing at the mouth when it comes to something like taste in music.
Humans are weak and pathetic.
The ending is perfect. And I hear it's different than the book.
Which is great because it screws with the bookworm clique that must have things their way or they froth at the mouths.
It also creates a dynamic in itself.
I don't like the Sin City graphic novels anymore since the movies do a fine job copying it all. A few frames, a couple new things, but overall, it made the money it wanted.
Reading the books after watching the movie just sucked the life out of reading the comic strips.
I'm going to go on a limb and ignore the other Frank Miller graphic novels and stick to the feature films.
Besides, The Dark Knight Returns has Christopher Drake's sexy score.
---------- Post added at 08:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 PM ----------
I also just realized all the visuals in the movie they're hinting at.
When the bag boy gets attacked by the tenticle creature, we see the axe in frame most of the time when Toby Jone's character on-screen.
It's not effective being in the case the whole time. It also doesn't turn out to be any use at all in the rest of the film, save for one use.
When the insects show up, most of the frames have the view positioned to show the insects appear as if they are standing right on the lights.
Which, any sane person, would know that's what's drawing them closer.
When the small team goes out to the pharmacy, the big dude in the white clothes and blue hat is holding a knife for the military guy to grab as a weapon to use.
But if you watch that scene again as they convince the military guy to go with them, as he grabs the knife from the big a-hole, you can see the guy in white and blue has the angriest face ever. He's really holding in something against him for no reason.
At that point, no one knows what's really going on or why.
But the big guy in white and blue acts as if he knows something but isn't saying anything.
It turns out he's the one that stabs the military guy before they sacrafice him.
Beautiful forshadowing.
There's probably a lot of other things.
The axe is more of a reaching. But it fits.
But there's no way they should have not seen that the lights were attracting the insects.
Or that the night has its own set of creatures.
I would really love a game based on The Misty that isn't Silent Hill.
I want to look up cheat codes for games and mods that remove all the creatures just so I can treat games like "urban exploration" and take screenshots.
Only thing... I need a new monitor. :-/
1280x1024 is the maximum I can use. :cryingbatman:
I need a new 1080p monitor. But I want to make sure I can customize the refresh rate to get a multiple of (24000/1001) for movie watching.

Also on the list is an Australian comedy:
Wyrmwood (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2535470/)
Wyrmwood is quite good. And quite nuts, but in a thoroughly entertaining way. Toughest character in the film is, of course, a woman.
BTW, there are "grain-free" versions, clean versions if you will, of Planet Terror. Rodriguez added splices, rips, etc . . . in post.

Ruckzuck (Organisation 1970 Live Performance) - Kraftwerk
This is quite the interesting version. Whereas the final version sounds like very a sophisticated track that shifts half way through, this sounds like an improvisational tribal jam that's all over the place.
Compare:
Live Performance Before Release (

Final Version (

Also heard a bit of Stratovarius at the end.

I should listen to the full score, now that Momo released the sessions.
So much on my listening list that I need to actually make one.

I should listen to the full score, now that Momo released the sessions.
The sessions were out for over a year before he dumped the lossless version.
The full score is pretty forgettable, just like 75% of all music composed by Brian Tyler. "Can You Dig It" is literally the best cue in the score.

With every score I listen to, there will always the main theme or a cue that sticks out and that's about it. Zimmer and Williams are the exceptions I tend to have. Any good recommendations to help me better get the film score world?

I've been a film score fan for five years and even I haven't listened to the good stuff yet.
But check out Ilan Eshkeri's Shaun the Sheep. That's one score off the top of my head that has something worth listening to in every track.

I'm shocked Fox let Ryan Reynolds do that sort of stuff as Deadpool. I think at one point in the marketing Deadpool made a reference to Fox "shitting out another movie".

I think comic books are now only there for when the odd comic becomes well known enough to possibly be adapted to film. It's all so messy.

Does anyone want to test a small video through their headphones and tell if they can hear the surround sound?
Should be behind you and also with height.
Not above you, just higher in front of you.
DTS Headphone:X demo

(
https://mega.nz/#!2opE2AKQ!UBfhRp1GZnDKj9XTjXz51k3UWMdIU9OfrPEFMKYWmmw)
No fancy codecs required.
Should play in anything that reads AAC audio.
Any headphones will do. Nothing special required like Turtle Beaches or anything.
I can hear most of it. The rear channels more or less go as far as my shoulders only.
But for front-height, I can actually hear her say it in front of me but higher than before.
I could mostly hear it as well. I imagine the upper and lower channels will give me trouble though.

Hmmm... Winter break and I'm all out of music by Powell.
Looking for something that sounds like him (not necessarily cartoonish, but orchestrally brilliant, complex and intelligent).
Any suggestions?

I've no idea what John Powell sounds like, haven't heard a single cue of his.
Perhaps you could post some links to some of his tracks? I might be able to make a suggestion or two then.
It would probably be easier if the majority of the film music I listened to wasn't just Giacchino and Williams.

Powell has a tendency to swamp his orchestra, having his orchestrators throwing everything into the mix but the kitchen sink, and then, sometimes that too. Which can make him an exhausting, unreliable listen.
But occasionally… one of my favourite tracks of his, from Hancock: Hollywood Blvd. (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQxmLCn638c).
And, of course, there are the last 3 tracks of X-Men: Last Stand which I recommend without reservation.
A pity Powell hasn't been scoring these superhero films. He has innate ear for a strong melody.
