Saw the BvS trailer from Comic Con. I'm cautiously (very) optimistic.
Up next for me is The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
Ted 2 was somehow even worse than the first one. Like flat soda. But I like Amanda Seyfried but still, it was baaaad. :(
Divergent was a nice surprise, found it to be better than the first Hunger Games or the Twilight saga. I have no hopes for the sequel though, heard it "focuses on the relationships", which is never a good sign. But hell, I got time to burn.

Yeah. Not impressive as I first thought when the first trailers came out.
The trailers made it look much more immersive. Something like Avatar (James Cameron).
The Happening was the crummiest (sadly worse than Avatar: The Last Airbender; at least ATLA has awesome music).
There was no twist at the end or exposition on what's really happening.
All there is just conjecture throughout the entire film, right up to the end.
"it could be this, it could be that".
Cheapest way to make a film without a story, imo.

It's a controversial film, especially if you are a believer. But it's also a great film. And the score is quite something as well. La-La Land released a 10th Anniversary expanded edition in December. What I'm listening to is a custom edit of that.

I grew up with the original Grimm's fairy tales, the uncensored version. (The one where Cinderella's sister slice off parts of their feet so as to fit in the slipper, where the Hare dies coughing up blood and the Woodsman slices the wolf open to rescue Grandma, etc . . . All with nice, explicit illustrations.)
The benefit of having old school Germans as parents. An odd combination of romanticism and pragmatism.

I once read (
http://www.cracked.com/article_20300_the-5-creepiest-foreign-versions-disney-fairy-tales.html) that the Grimm version of The Tortoise and the Hare is that it's a hedgehog instead of a tortoise, and he races while the wife waits at the finish line because they look identical; therefore it looks like the husband wins each time. The Hare always loses until a blood vessel in his neck pops from running too much and he dies a horrible death.
I don't see much of a moral in that story except, "Cheat if you can."

Is that really such a huge big problem?
It is if you want to rip the audio and edit.
Editing lossy audio causes destruction.
It'd be fine if you just want to rip the AC3 track and listen to a trimmed version of it.
But no one likes to listen to AC3 music file and *must* convert to MP3@320.
You can convert to FLAC and edit and save as FLAC (or other lossless format).
But again, share it here and it *must* be converted to another lossy format.
For sharing problems, it's futile.
For personal reasons, I'd be content playing a trimmed AC3 in Foobar2000, the world's leading music player. [/productplacement]

Oh. I haven't really paid that much attention. Most versions I watched were already encoded 720p, so those details would be lost when downscaled.
When I first learned that there's no lossless audio source, I just stuck with 720ps for this.
Such a shame.
Except now, I see a Taiwan disc has been made with DTSHDMA in it.
But, no idea what the details are on that. The audio must be an upgrade. I've not seen any TWN discs upscale audio.
But usually their video transfers are identical to other releases.

Warner is Warner. And the source of the Blu-ray is digital, the movie was done digitally therefore, Warner, will always give us the same master everytime. Hopefully for rehashes they at least solve the compression issues.
It's not just Warner. It's whoever gets commissioned to "transfer" the master to bluray disc.
For The Last Samurai bluray, the CEE "transfer" has better picture quality over North American "transfers".
The CEE also has TrueHD audio while North American releases have AC3 only.
Movie pirating is far different than music torrenting.
A whole new set of jargon.
The HD-DVD for Corpse Bride had different picture quality than the bluray, as well.
The "master" file before "transferring" to bluray/hddvd/dvd is fine.

It is indeed, and it's one of the most practically-unknown and most under-appreciated scores he's ever written. Why? I honestly have no idea. The director copied everything from Carpenter's Halloween except in making characters the audience cared about.
P.S. NBC, after canceling Hannibal, put the show in network's time slot o'death, in other words, Saturday night. NBC also put Aquarius on Saturday's doom watch, yet NBC renewed Aquarius which had ratings similar to Hannibal.
This re-enforces my belief the people who make these decisions are crustaceans.

Makes total sense. Why take the time to create an extended version of the movie that fixes the mistakes of the theatrical cut? I mean, Age of Ultron is such a beloved film that took amazing chances with established characters and really pushed the boundaries of what a superhero movie could be. It's not like there's a market or audience for a director's cut to a film.

Watching the Suicide Squad trailer again. The I Started A Joke (it works) cover reminds me what Confidential did for Ultron's trailer.
This is the only DC movie I've been actually interested in since The Dark Knight Rises. But I fear Will Smith will be Will Smith and too many characters will mean rushed backstories, but hey, at least David Ayer is proving to be more than just the writer of The Fast and the Furious.

No other trailer music got me so badly as this one (maybe just Mind Heist from Inception). Combined with the visuals its absolutely stunning and gives the film a really great tone. Praying for an instrumental version but so far the ones on youtube will suffice.

What Was It That Makes You Think This...Acting, Effects, Story...
Acting was marvelous.
The writing was superb. Despite taking place over 13 one-hour episodes, the story never felt sluggish. In fact, I thought the series might have benefitted from an extra episode or two to flesh things out a little more! The plot was clear and focused, dialogue was spot-on and never felt forced or corny. The characters felt real and believable. Out of Gotham, The Flash, Arrow, SHIELD, and Daredevil, Daredevil is by far the best in my opinion.
The music was wonderful as well.
Another thing I liked is that Wilson Fisk felt like a threat. A scary threat. As opposed to Malekith, or Killian, or Ultron, who were essentially goofballs.

The Flash was too goofy for me. I watched the first few episodes, and there were some good moments but overall it didn't appeal to me.
I didn't understand in the very first scene how Barry was able to tell exactly what kind of truck had driven on the road.
I also thought it was creepy how Barry wanted to make out with his (sort of) stepsister.
Cisco is such an awful character, and the guy who plays him is a horrible actor, delivering his lines in a ham-fisted and forced way.
I hear the season finale was awesome, though. And Blake Neely's music was a real treat, as it always is.

Agreed. Granted it was yet another origin story but an origin done right. Everyone was perfectly cast. D'Onforio as Fisk was something close to a revelation. He made Fisk scary and yet sympathetic. And also smart. He had a plan and his inner circle was comprised of intelligent people committed to Fisk and his goals. And thirteen episodes gave you time to see the characters evolve.
And IMO, Glenn Scott was perfect as Stick.

I think comparing Flash and Daredevil is perfect. Each sums up D.C. and Marvel perfectly. You can totally get the sifference in story and character developement. Flash had many OMG action and iconic scenes visualized, done full on and perectly. But Daredevil did as well. And the writing was totally engrossing. Also, it is made totally clear that THIS New York is the same world as was attacked un the first Avengers. We are clearly shown that the city, especially poorer areas like Hell's Kitchen, do not just pop back to normal over night, mirroring the lingering damage frm Katrina in the south where whole neighborhoods have yet to be repaired.
Marvel books were always meant to feel "real" with lasting consequences, and Daredevil does that quite well. D.C. tends to just use the reset "all better" button. Look at Man of Steel. How much rebuilding do ya think it will take to get Metropolis back on track? and not Flash, or Arrow allude to that. Gotham gets a pass, being set in the past. Actually, Daredevil i8s everything a good Batman ought to be but has yet to be done. Ialso found the dialogue between Matt andchis priest to be very well done. But D'Nofrio really runs away with the show as Fisk, who is never actually referred to as Kingpin....just sublime acting there. And the action/fights were just terrific while staying JUST this sidecof believable for a "normal" human to pull off. A perfect way to wash your brain after the bright and glitzy effects of Flas. :awsm:

To be fair, none of the DC TV shows have anything to do with the films. They're totally different continuities.
But I agree, DC loves using that reset button way too much both in its comics and its TV/Film worlds.

Almost as much as Marvel loves using the "evacuate the city" button that magically transports all citizens out of harm's way. It even works during the super powered fights, like Hulk vs. Hulkbuster. Not one person hit by so much as a piece of flying debris.
P.S. Tapping the knowledge that is on hand, anyone know if or when a CD of Neely's Flash score will be released? Checked, but haven't found an iota of info.
