Is the score that good?

No, it isn't the best soundtrack to have been released ever or of recent memory. It's not thematically melodramatic as Zimmer or orchestrally nuanced as John Powell but it's simple and in that simplicity infectiously joyful and that is why it became an instant favourite. Read the second paragraph (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f2/suggest-movie-soundtrack-freind-192614/2.html#post3026859). It's the indie counterpart to modern film scoring.

If I'm being honest, the score was better than the film. I made the mistake of grabbing and listening to the FYC before I saw the film, so I clearly had high expectations after listening to it. It wasn't bad, I was just expecting more (shocker, right?). But I just watched it again last week to prep for my complete edit, and I liked it better the second time around after my expectations were lowered. Just like Fury Road.

Currently listening to Le Petit Prince, "Growing Up" by Richard Harvey and Hans Zimmer (and not the other way around). Camille's voice is ethereal.

It's the film largely credited as revelation for both Woodley's and Teller's talents though I've always liked Teller more because of his background - I'm skeptical about Teen Choice Award laureates.

From Wiki: (follow citations to evidentual links)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_the_South#Controversies

"Song of the South" unfortunately gives the impression of an idyllic master-slave relationship which is a distortion of the facts.

Jensen had written that the film was "so artistically beautiful that it is difficult to be provoked over the clichs" but that it contained "all the clichs in the book",

mentioning that she felt scenes like blacks singing traditional black songs were offensive as a stereotype.

Springarn listed several things she found objectionable from the film, including the Negro dialect.

Imagine Samuel L Jackson in "Django Unchained (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1853728)".
But rated G.

You have to remember the year the movie came out and what times were like back then.

Movies today can be as stereotypical as they want. For drama, comedy or horror.

It was a huge thing back then.

A lot of older cartoons used exaggerations of stereotypes.

Shame. Total and utter shame.

Yes, it's my Apple TV. Sometimes when I'm tied up on my Mac and iTunes is running slow (due to some songs being on my wireless MyCloud drive and therefore skipping/buffering) I just use my Apple TV instead. Plus it's hooked up to my stereo, so it's almost like having my phone hooked up to my stereo. Except it's right by my side ;)

What do you mean you've never seen a full screen view like that? You mean for the Apple TV? That's how it looks when you're playing music through it.

Oh yeah no. This is the main interface of the Apple TV:

Where I'm pointing to "computers" is where you load all your media from through iTunes. It connects wirelessly. And since I have the "computer" option set to "music" (as opposed to Movies, Home Videos and TV Shows), it displays what I'm currently listening to and my most recently played.

This is how it would look if I switched from music to movies. Same thing. Just shows what I've recently watched or what's been recently added to my library:

One of the first bluray purchases when I finally decided to upgrade.
Still love it as much as the first time I saw a trailer for it in theaters then finally saw it in theaters and then bought it on DVD and finally BD.

[hr][hr]

While going through some old full blurays on my externals, stumbled upon "The Hunchback of Notre Dame (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116583)" (1996)
I never was into this until a few years ago.

I just love teh Hunchbacks singing. What a vibrato! I almost cried the first time he belted out with a vibrato.
I really favor this singing over monotones.
 Demi Moore got her singing replaced like George Clooney did when he did "O Brother, Where Art Thou? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0190590/)" (2000).
RIP Tony Jay. He made an excellent villain in this. I think worse than other villains.
Man, did he ever have a great career.
Can't wait to get to his "hellfire" number.

The numbers in the movie are done well enough that ripping the bluray wouldn't sound much like a sfx movie.

I remember the album(s) out there miss a lot of things like dialogue that makes the singing more fluent and pertinent.

If all you listen to is the Electro Suite (my least favourite track on the deluxe OST), then I'm not surprised you're still not keen on it. Listen to more of Spidey's theme or Gwen's theme. Even Harry's theme.

Harry Suite is just fascinating. Mesmerising. Hypnotically intriguing. Or is it just me?!

I'm an Android person.

One of my friends have a hacked iPod (old one) and said I can have it if they ever find it again (their kids played with it last).

I have a Galaxy S3 (no more mini).
The app I use doesn't do fancy things like that.

But it supports ReplayGain (http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=ReplayGain) (biggest feature ever, never in free apps though :/ ) and even 64bit precision decoding (just for decoding, it will help with post-processing chain of effects to cut down on clipping), supports crossfeed (so I can put in settings for the Meier crossfeed to create surround sound sensation in some music through headphones), plus has a couple of its own DSP's for surround sound (if I want to stream to surround sound system), internal resampler (don't know what library it uses, probably free SSRC (what eac3to uses), tempo+pitch, internal Automatic Gain Protection.

Everything I put on to it, I run ReplayGain on it to scan the levels.
The Crossfeed and Surround Sound DSP's are what I use the most.
The Surround Sound DSP has more options than the Crossfeed so you can get much closer settings to the Jan Meier crossfeed (http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-online.de/crossfeed.htm) setting.

---------- Post added at 05:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------

Although, I don't use the internal resampler.
it advertises the resampler to be "audiophile" quality.

When in reality, for real world listening, you don't resample to higher sample rates.
It will create sonic residue and other acoustic anomalies.

Sure you edit in those frequencies, but you always down sample back to previous rate.

Starting in low range (44.1) and going up (say quadruple: 176.4), it will start to alias the higher you go.
Double should be safest for upscaling without noticable, new data.
Going quadruple, depending on the type of music/audio, you might introduce new data that you dont want to edit.
Slight echoes, etc.

I had the internal resampler turned on for the first week i bought the app.
Then spent a week with it turned off...
Zero difference when doing custom equalizer or crossfeed/surround_sound DSP effects.
Even with HD lossles audio (bluray flac). Or even AAC.

Bought the bluray mostly because of the isolated score.
The movie is pretty good. I wouldnt complain if someone wanted to watch it.
Not exactly The Last Samurai, but the director is really good.

Can't wait for the Joseph Koinski to get on track with The Black Hole remake.
With recent graphical (and mathematical) developments for Interstellar, I can see any movie involving a black hole being so much more intriguing.

It is good! I will finish it later. But there's that one really cheesey bit near the beginning when Cruise' plane-thing nearly crashes, and it disappears... and then suddenly it shoots back up into the sky and everything's now fine. How completely predictable and unnecessary. :p

Watching "The Descendants (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1033575)" (2011).

A much more organic role for Shailene Woodley.
She's such a zombie in The Divergent series.

I love this movie so much.
I can't ever see it with anyone else other than George Clooney.
SO many little things that happen make you think that's exactly how you would react if it happened to you.

When he's sitting at the long-table doing business with other people, sorting things out, and out of the complete blue he stops listening to everyone, it goes quiet and then he thinks to himself: "She'll make it. She'll come around."
So loveably innocent and vulnerable!

Honsetly, pick any other actor.
The movie would not be the same.

Sure, maybe Kevin Kostner.
Actual spoiler:
But he would have it so he dies at the end.

Ben Affleck?
He was great in Bounce (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0186894) (2000).
Underrated film. Poor score on IMDb. But that one really shows me he's a better actor than the crap he does.
DareDevil Director's Cut is a whole new movie.

Brad Pitt.
never! Not even if he re-invoked his spirit for doing "Se7en (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114369)" (1995)

Richard Gere?
Would be okay, but still not the same powerful innocense that Clooney can deliver.

No one can.
2011. It would have to be old generation actors.

Maybe Dustin Hoffman.

But, I'm so glad it was Clooney.
I always knew he could do more serious roles.

And as far as the Star Wars OT? Disney certainly knows that the fans want the original theatrical releases, and I've heard from a few good sources that in order for Disney to even buy Lucasfilm, George made them sign a contract saying that the special editions are the "only editions" from now on. :/ It sucks, but I have a feeling its true...

The upcoming one may turn out to be the best version of the webslinger so far if Cop Car is any indication of the man's talent. It's not perfect, but it shows a lot of promise.

By that metric, Marc Webb's debut (500) Days of Summer should've been far more promising than either Clown or Cop Car... and Clown was just woefully poor. Much of it will depend on the extent of how many interference plays the studio will actually call, particularly now that they've delivered the promise of an MCU building toward Infinity War, effectively leaving little to no space for deviation.

I have a weird way of computing "loves". Two scenarios:
1. they accommodate some three star tracks I love. They either mean "shit track, still love it, whutcha gonna do" (mainly Zimmer - yes I imagine my fierce red MacBrook Pro being that gangsta if it ever came to life) or
2. they're just a way of working around the stupidity with which Apple introduced iTunes' five-star rating system... If you're gonna decide to create a rating structure but forfeit a binary model (as loves are) for a far more complicated one, why not just allow me to have half stars as well? I've always veered away from star ratings until loves came around because I'm slightly OCD and I mentally couldn't withstand the idea of having a 3.5 star song rated as a 3 or, Allah forbid, a 4. So sometimes the loves resolve that and to me, they mean half a star... sometimes.

James P.Sullivan

Next, they'll introduce a rating system with adjectives:

✶✶✶✶✶ = Awesomefrickintacular!

✶✶✶✶ = Great!

✶✶✶ = Good

✶✶ = Mediocre

✶ = Why do I have this song in my library?

Oblivion. Critics say that film was derivative... and they're right. But Andrea Riseborough's pool sex scene and the music were more than enough to make it my favorite guilty pleasure movie of the year. Honestly, I was more bothered by the fact that Riseborough was an "oblivious" antagonist (pun high five) and Tom didn't end up with her than by the awful narrative... I haven't the most absurdly remote clue as to how Joseph Kosinski managed to be hired for a directorial debut (Tron: Legacy) with a budget worth north of $150million or how he managed to convince studios to give him a $120million second chance but I like his taste in music so I don't mind if he keeps making extravagantly poor movies with awesome tracks :D

Much of it will depend on the extent of how many interference plays the studio will actually call, particularly now that they've delivered the promise of an MCU building toward Infinity War, effectively leaving little to no space for deviation.

(500) Days was in my opinion no way an indication of how good a superhero movie Webb could make. Apart from the fact that he just had to make the film to escape the contract he'd signed with Sony before, one wonders what his pitch to them might've been like. 'Oh, we'll just try to remake everything exactly the same way that Raimi just did a couple of years ago. You want something new? HOW 'BOUT WE MAKE GWEN STACY THE LOVE INTEREST HUH HUH?!'

Webb did have some good ideas but maybe he would've been better off just shooting a couple of new scenes and re-cutting the old Trilogy. I, for one, saw no possible justification for The Amazing Spiderman apart from Sony's financial motives. And those damn rights that keep reverting. The sequel made me a believer. Webb can (and will) make an excellent movie one day but it won't have someone shooting webs at bad guys.

I haven't seen Clown and honestly, I was extremely skeptical when they announced him in the first place. I, like most others wonder which hole in the ground did this guy just pop out of? Cop Car was fun. Not something with a lot of replay value (or whatever it's called for movies) but still a breezy, light homage to the Coen Brothers that has some great acting. Especially the two kids. That was probably one of the more natural performances by child actors in films. And Kevin Bacon was doing what he does best. I liked it.

Thing is, it's not a question of (500) Days vs. Cop Car, the fact is that the job Webb was asked to do was much different than the one Watts is now going to do. The environment was different. In 2010, Spiderman already had a great trilogy which was all wrapped up and preserved. On the other hand, what Watts has to top now, is Webb's considerably weaker duology which was left without a proper conclusion. Webb messed up the endings to both of his Spiderman movies in my opinion. How much was Sony to blame, who knows? (or maybe someone does, I don't)

Which brings us to studio meddling. Marvel has a lot of control over the new movie but maybe that's not a good thing. Age of Ultron proves as much. The stakes are higher now as they build up to Infinity War and they want to keep everything on track. I agree with you here, Watts might not be as independent when it comes to decision making on this as he might've thought. Marvel pissed off their golden boy, Joss Whedon already and had uhm, 'creative differences' with Ed Wright which was possibly the worst mistake they've made so far. Besides hiring Shane Black that is. Wright had been working on Ant-man for the better part of the last decade, way before Marvel Studios was even a thing.

One thing's for sure, the Marvel Studios of today has grown up and that might not be the best thing. DC's been in this movie business for a lot longer and they're struggling to keep up. Marvel's biggest problem is that most people feel that it has to top it's own previous work. When your sixth film ever becomes the fourth highest grossing film of all-time, making the next one 'bigger, badder, etc.' is almost impossible. They've decided meddling with films, having too many worthless subplots and inserting pointless connections and references to later installments is the way to go. They left James Gunn alone (relatively) and look at what he did. This recent trend seems indicative of the nature of any future relationship between Marvel and its creative people, only goes to show that once again an independent studio with good intentions has fallen to doing the same cliched crap that they wanted to avoid when they started.

I actually really enjoyed Oblivion. I guessed pretty quickly after Julia turned up that Victoria was gonna get the sack to fix the love triangle, but it was still a shock when it happened. Although I don't remember actually seeing her dying. I just heard a scream. I'm guessing I was too busy been hypnotised by the drone entering Tower 49. My word was that one awesome shot.

The drones are scary as hell.

I thought the plot was actually fairly original, despite the setting. I certainly didn't guess the truth.

Kosinski is awesome but like a couple of other people, one man who loves explosions comes to mind ;) , they can't write to save their lives. Oblivion and Tron: Legacy both suffered because the script sucked. Same thing's happened to Neill Blomkamp after District 9. Pacific Rim was meant to be nothing more than a fun little personal project for del Toro to fulfill his dream of having giant robots fight giant monsters. It didn't need a stellar script because that would've been excessive. Not that the script could have used improvement, it could a lot, but the intention when making it was to make it like it is today. Oblivion and Tron: Legacy needed better scripts because they were intended to be more complex than 'robots vs. godzilla-like things'. And as a result of nobody caring about that, the film's suffered whereas Pacific Rim just works.

I, for one, loved Legacy and Oblivion but will recognize their very obvious flaws.

And I was generally absolutely fine with the script for The Island, for a film by the man-who-loves-explosions-but-shall-not-be-named.

I have yet to see a movie made by 'the man' which doesn't make me cringe every ten minutes or so. He has talent and has shown that given the right script, he can make a immortal action movie but, that day has yet to come. Imagine something like Fury Road but only a lot shinier.

I love both TRON: Legacy and Oblivion. Got to see Oblivion in IMAX. Legacy is my favorite of the 2. Yeah the script isn't great, but I still enjoy the hell out of the film. I think Daft Punk's score and Darren Gilford's production design are my favorite things about the film. And no, my father hasn't been missing for 27 years, but I can connect with that. The whole father/son aspect. That's why the climax is bittersweet. I had a few tears by the end.

Oblivion wasn't as great, but it was pretty to look at and I think everyone here knows I love M83. Kosinski's made 2 films so far, each by a French electronic act/group. Can't wait to see who he snags next.

I, for one, saw no possible justification for The Amazing Spiderman apart from Sony's financial motives... First, you kinda need to justify the string of statements you made about Webb essentially being a moron because otherwise they read as pointless rants. Secondly, I agree but 500 showed directorial intelligence. It was, by no means, trivial or banal within its genre... something that can't be said for Clown. Cop Car, on the other hand, is easy viewing and a slight improvement because it barely sits on the fair-genre-entry scale. Admittedly Watts has grown a lot since Clown but it's as narratively defunct as movies can get before becoming absolutely boring. And it's a feather-light homage to the Coen brothers; all this movie has is some of their more antiquate aesthetics.

Thing is, it's not a question of (500) Days vs. Cop Car, the fact is that the job Webb was asked to do was much different than the one Watts is now going to do. The environment was different. Besides hiring Shane Black that is. Wright had been working on Ant-man for the better part of the last decade, way before Marvel Studios was even a thing.

Webb had very little influence over where the story will lead as he was signed on for a package deal. I will say that TASM is unnecessarily brutalized by fans, primarily over Garfield's inadequacy which is as ludicrous as ill-informed - it was a perfectly fine and fitting interpretation considering that was the direction being taken with the character - and critics, primarily because it retraced similar origin stories while making the wrong, unwarranted changes (Ty Burr's mention of TASM falling short of the Green Lantern 'paragon' only goes to show how short-sighted some can be). I don't want to type my thoughts on Marvel yet another time in full but I will abridge them and won't follow-up to a reply because I've said this too many times. To this day, Marvel hasn't released a single great movie. Pit any of theirs against the thematic and narrative substance of Days of Future Past or The Dark Knight (imo, the only two movies worth mentioning in a great superhero movie dialogue) and they all fall dreadfully short:
Avengers was a long play in two acts with no regard whatsoever for Chekov's gun.
The Winter Soldier was, technically speaking, an abomination and remains one of the most plagiarized films I have ever seen to date - apologies but I will laugh at anyone who insists the Russo brothers have any value whatsoever as directors. They don't, they come from tv (literally, the easiest thing to film). They belong to the same subspecies of directors as James Wan or Kosinski... they're gimmicks. The fanbase's apotheosis following the Ultron debacle is spectacularly entertaining and only entrenches my belief that kids simply grow up wanting to fly or wanting to shoot lasers from their eyes more than kids used to want to be cowboys and I cannot wait for this Marvel effect to be over.
Guardians of the Galaxy was the best thing they've ever released and it only was an entertaining movie with a clever jokes and more plot holes that I could bother to keep track of. It in no way deserves to be hailed as great, innovative, Kubrickian or whatever other wild neologism some kid drugged on the delusion of superpowers can conjure. I enjoy Marvel movies just as much as anybody else and I'm all for turning my brain off for them; but I'm slightly against keeping it turned off during discussions after the viewing.

Kosinski is awesome but like a couple of other people... they can't write to save their lives. Oblivion and Tron: Legacy both suffered because the script sucked. Same thing's happened to Neill Blomkamp after District 9.

Agreed and disagreed. It's not about having someone who writes. Malick just shoots, whether with thousand long screenplays, storyboards or nothing at all and yet I have still to wait for any one of his films to signal the beginning of post-Malick. There's just an intelligence to directing that these guys don't have. Blomkamp, for example, fills his movies with superficial and superfluous political commentary that 7-year olds may be capable of formulating with more eloquence using crayons and Bay is the antithesis to filmmaking - he's the equivalent of a pyramid scheme for cinema.

He has talent and has shown that given the right script, he can make a immortal action movie but, that day has yet to come. Imagine something like Fury Road but only a lot shinier.

Wrong. You must be looking down one fairly deep mining shaft if you're seeing talent. Miller has the tact to direct Happy Feet (far more sophisticated flick than most will admit) and Lorenzo's Oil. Just read a leaked script 'revised' by Michael Bay. The guy is a fucking brick.

Edit: I really enjoyed Oblivion. The script was bits and pieces of every other science fiction thing just meshed together trying to blend the several implausibilities but I liked it far more than TRON:Legacy. Tom Cruise is too charismatic a lead; the unreal energy he puts in his work is laudable and definitely helps shape many movies. Hell, he even made Jack Reacher watchable.

I want to watch that again.

But, I can't watch any of the old Disney cartoons anymore.
The audio compression is too severe for my ears.

Why are there compression problems in the audio if is suposedly lossless? Oh, Disney how low have you gotten on home video...

Lossless has nothing to do with it. It's just the source.

The years they were made are too old. They didn't have surround sound back then. Everything was brickwalled for standard stereo TV speakers.
Anything beyond stereo today are just upscaled. 7.1 is useless for older movies (predating 2007).
The 90's are good for 5.1.

All the shouting, yelling, and crap just make me want to punch the characters.
:badcrysta:

The only screaming I like are in horror films.
Jamie Lee Curtis, the mother in Scream (opening scene), Katie Cassidy in ANOES remake.
it's not a slasher flick until someone screams.

---------- Post added at 06:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:33 PM ----------

there was one really funny scream.

it was horror, but also the scene was done in a comedic manner.

some chick just got splattered in someone else's blood, her hands stretched open, holding her arms out from the sudden, shocking moment.
And then she just screams, but as she does it, her head shakes a bit. you can see her hair vibrate.
It was really quiet when she screamed, to give emphasis.

And then it went to opening titles?
I'm thinking maybe The Final Destination [4; in 3D] (race track opening).
Cheesey movie, which makes it funny.
The sudden cut of silence to allow the scream was redeeming for a horror movie.

Watching trailer for "The Witch (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4263482)" (2015).

Definitely a gripping atmosphere to pull you in.
The grip is unrelenting.

Looks way better than that Salem tv series (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2963254/).

From Mjacar, yes. A little village over Andalusia. I do know my friends went there for a research, but I don't know the results.

Journalist Iker Jimnez talked about that in one of his programs. ["Cuarto Milenio"]

Interesting note about The Witch...

according to IMDb, (synopsis) set in England.
Tech Specs:
Aspect Ratio 1.66 : 1

Wikiepedia:
1.6667:1 (5:3)
A common European widescreen std.; Native Super 16 mm film.
( technically, .6 repater, but let's have our fun ;) )

Now if only they could do a movie about the Maleaus Malifcarum origins.

Look at that. No asterisks or nothin indicating where Brad Fiedel is present. Shame. :p

I should try that for my foobar.

I haven't found a single custom usercreated Foobar Theme that i like, i still prefer the default UI just a bit rearranged with
the Layout Editing Mode, you should give it a try ! wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Foobar2000:Layout_Editing_Mode

Almost got it to look like i want it, just a little FineTuning...
