I compare it to MoS (because that's my other favorite score of 2013), and by comparison it's such a simple score. But equally as pleasant. You may feel differently, or even be surprised at my taste and think "what's so good about it" but I honestly love it. I'm so glad I got into this score. Always cheers me up. Always puts me in a good mood. Always makes me happy. The only other music that does that is Pink Floyd's Us and Them

Every episode is better than the last. Also while I don't know the reason for so few, I think it was mainly intended as a miniseries. I can't imagine matching everyone's agenda as an easy task. I mean... there's Bradley Cooper and Amy Poehler and Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks and Lake Bell and Josh Charles and Jason Schwartzmann and Judah Friedlander and Marguerite Moreau and Kristen Wiig and Paul Rudd and Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter and John Slattery and Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer, and friggin Archer!!! (H. Jon Benjamin) and Chris Meloni and Jayma Mays and Joe Lo Truglio is basically an honorary jew (osmotically absorbing it from Samberg on BNine-Nine)- seriously the only Jewish Hollywood star missing is Andy Samberg... and me. Hahaha I'm not that surprised. Animation or not, it's an iconic 2000s score especially thanks to Bryan Adams and the European artists covering his songs in other languages. Both film and score are of a certain importance to me as well though I've never been a fan of classic or spaghetti Western film music. I should know better than to think that Zimmer's music on Spirit is as good as I think it to be, but "Reunion" tugs at strings every time (btw thank you for influencing my choice to listen to it again - it had been a while).

Hahaha nope, it's the name of the artist and of the eponymous (second) album. He's only 19 but considered an emerging star in the indie-electronic genre. I hardly ever listen to electronic music any longer but it's some solid stuff, some tracks slightly reminiscent ("About You", "Good Enough", "DMT", "Breeze", "Overdone") of Grouper's ambient soundscapes. It isn't for everyone and it definitely isn't for everytime. I haven't listened to this in a year but felt like letting go of my narcissistic delusions of omnipotence and omniscience for a while. Strongly recommend "Love Isn't Made" and "Overdone", the latter is absolutely beautiful.
I love what iTunes did with this one, awesome job Mr Gold! :)

Mad Mad: Fury Road - Intro (Mad Edit).
it's got 3 parts to it.
1) first 3 minutes of the movie (downmixed 7.1 to stereo)
2) Survive (exteded; from deluxe) overlappnig the movie so it times up nicely.
3) Escape (extended; from deluxe) overlapping Survive to give a nice mix of the two cues.
I did that so that you can hear most of the horn theme (the double/tripple-blow stingers).
And as soon as the horned theme ends, you get that awesome stringed stair theme you hear in the main action cues.
I had to upscale the OST from 44.1 to 48kHz with eac3to. And used full width WAV files (64 floating point).
Interesting to see that it produced a lot of clipping and had to be normalized in 2nd pass.
Only clipped about 0.9dB, though.
I used ReLife on the tracks to bring it back down.
I scanned in Sony SoundForge for any clipping above 0dB and used ReLife on those parts in the affected channels (just the right channel clipped).
I'm thinking of doing a different downmix of this, just for the movie part.
I'll use Ambiophonics on it so it sounds richer in pseudo-surround for headphones.
Might as well apply the same to the end credits, since it's discreetly rich for the score, like John Wick and Expendables 3.
I could apply it to the OST, too.
But I would need to upmix it to fake 5.1 first then apply the ambiophonic DSP on it.
That's a lot of phasing and mixing, it might wreck the OST tracks.

Just found my blurays to "Night Watch (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358)" (2004).
original title: "Nochnoy dozor" (Ночной дозор)
Based on a series of (4?) books in Russia.
I bought the first book, translated for North American markets.
This was before the director, Timur Bekmambetov, came to America to do "Wanted (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493464)".
The picture deal for part 3 (combining books 3&4, opposite-America where it would be 5 movies--- book 4 split into two movies) was sold to Fox Searchlights in favor of distributing the film internationally, thus giving him ability to work on American films in America.
To date, nothing has been done to make the rest of the movies.
The sequel to Night Watch is equally awesome, Dnevnoy dozor (2006).
I was able to buy both of these on bluray in a very short time frame from each other.
Canadian distribution. Still with original Russian audio with English subtitles.
I can't remember if the blruays kept the fancy subtitles from the DVD. (most people complained it looked like MTV did the subtitles).
The DVD was double-sided. One side just standard text subtitles, the other side the subtitles were very animated and part hardcoded into the film.
Here's an article that talks about it:
The director Timur Bekmambetov turns film subtitling into an art ~ The New York Times (
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/25/style/25iht-design28.1.5866427.html)
As far as "wanted" goes, he's producing the sequel. :noonecares:
I rented them on DVD, them bought them on DVD then upgraded to BD after.
I dont know what the Russian blurays would be like. I actually haven't checked into it.
They're awesome films. A lot of nice visuals.
So this is what I'm watching:

I was fucking blown away when I heard his score in theaters. It's a huge part of why TWS is far and away my favorite MCU film. I don't think I'll ever forget hearing "Taking a Stand" paired with those amazing end credits.
What I love is how his score can really be the most prominent element of the film in certain scenes. Like "The Causeway" sequence. The music puts you into the chaos of the scene more than the visuals. Too bad that cue was shortened for the OST...

How could I not?!? It's a terrific label. I've been a fan since Bronson introduced me to them with Glass Candy's "Digital Versicolor". Chromatics is the obvious favourite and Desire is a close second but B/E/A/T/B/O/X really turned it around for Jewel and Ida. I only hope Body Works is just as good. Also that label has mad vinyl game. The only way their mail store could be improved is if they sold lossless digital downloads instead of the occasional 320 MP3 (I just really dislike MP3 files).

I don't know anyone else who listees to them. I credit Nicolas-Winding Refn for introducing me to IDIB. If it weren't for Desire's Under Your Spell, I would not know who they are. Same goes for A Real Hero: I would not know who Electric Youth and College are. Thank God I do, though. And yep, Chromatics are my favorite as well.
I love how much Johnny cares about the fans and that vinyl game he's got. When I missed out on one a few months back, I requested Mike Simonetti's Capricorn Rising - and he sent it to me for free. It was the hot pink pressing, as well. We've messaged through fb posts before several times, I feel like he knows who I am by now lol. Among other things, he's sent various signed copies of shit. As well as CDs of the vinyls I've ordered. (I have 2 copies each of After Dark and After Dark 2 lol). And always loads up the orders with a bunch of stickers and posters. I'm lining the inside of my "media closet" door with them :p

He's a wonderfully weird man. We Bought a Zoo is superb but for me his best stuff (outside of gtis byrjun with Sigur Rs, which is getting a must-have limited edition reissue) was Riceboy Sleeps with Alex.

You should just download a nice 1080p mp4 copy for iTunes. There's plenty of them on torrent sites. Had mine for about a month now.

Porn is no good in 1080p.
You really don't want to see all the details on the cheap actors they hire. :vomit:

Yeah, it just wasn't working for me. I don't like a bland-looking tracklist like that. I want one that's vibrant and flashy. That's why I knew the final poster for the film would work - all those yellows and blues. But posting a screenshot just doesn't do it justice. When I have the brightness turned up all the way, and seeing it in person? That's when it look bad-ass

I just watch random "x" minute videos, mostly amateur. Yeah, amateur, but trust me sometimes they're better than actual porn which sounds too fake than it should.
You need to get some parodies, mate.
There are several (hetero) Batman ones out there.

Still waiting on the never-ending release date of Dear Tommy...
Holy shit, that was supposed a 100 copy limited edition. I remember the colour, as they called it, was something wonderfully ridiculous like "Opaque Strawberry Ice Cream". That's a gem right there if Simonetti ever becomes huges. Tame Impala's limited editions for Currents are reselling at unbelievable prices. I really hope Dear Tommy makes it before the year is over but I'm - don't kill me - more excited for the release of The Other Side of Midnight dipped in blood. Refreshing their page every 15 seconds is what I'll be doing August 30-31st.
Listening to CHVRCHΞS, "Get Away" from the upcoming Every Open Eye. Another release I'm really looking forward to.

The porn industry is huge.
It is but the heterosexual facet is amazingly inaccessible to males if one wished to perform hence the immense growth in number of gay performers. Now that I think about it the structure of the porn industry is the most disturbing homophobic phenomenon I've ever encountered. A few friends used to work "backstage", one did photography for a very hush-hush London-based studio and another deals with intellectual property issues for models and pornstars. Heterosexual scenes are so far removed from the reality of the just-newly introduced male star that they practically constitute an echelon, the highest achievable tier at that and in every conceivable way (value, image rights, distribution, pay) that it's not unheard of for heterosexual males to try and navigate their way, in hopes of breaking through, by doing some early gay work. It's disgusting how they've managed to reduce and degrade homosexuality to a near-necessary phase in a person's profession (characterized by regular and nuanced antagonism as every elitist structure demands).

O_O IT DOES EXIST!
Yeah, the industry can be real cutthroat.
Not even a pun.
There was an incident not too long ago that two studios fought over a gay male actor just to have him in their videos.
When one side won and wouldn't sign him over to the other studios for awhile, the other studio murdered the studio owner (who was actually have sexual relations with the male actor, who the actor himself had done a few videos at the age of 17, forging his identity to appear the legal age of video photography for the given state).
Real sick shit. Stabbed like 50 times and then they burned the house down to try conceal any evidence of murder.
You can read about it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Paul_Lockhart#Murder_case_of_Bryan_Kocis
Those were professional studios, too.
not some backalley productions that walk around with cameras or anything.
Such a skeevy industry.
I hate to think what goes on in the "independant" industries.
One of my friends grew up in an area where they would make illegal, underground videos.
It was like right out of 8MM (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134273).
I don't know if they did actual snuff videos, but I wouldn't be surprised there was one or two poor souls.

It's not opaque though. The two opaque releases I have are the "Mint Green" pressing of Kill for Love (Drumless) and Running from the Sun (Kill for Love Sessions). Capricorn Rising is pink, but a darker pink. Not a hot pink like the Drive OST. Here (yes, this is me :p):
Look closely and in the LP you can see the reflection of how I set my phone against my Mac screen and you can also see the shrine in Chrome lol
The Other Side of Midnight is one of the tracks I have on my custom "Unreleased" compilation. I've never listened to it, doing that as I type. I just can't wait for Dear Tommy because the singles released off of it so far (Just Like You, I Can Never Be Myself When You're Around, In Films) are so good. In Films is my favorite. I fucking love it. Been trying to figure it out for a while now - can't tell if it's about a woman or a car. Or both. Here's my set from "Unreleased":

Btw by hush-hush I didn't mean "underground" or of the snuff genre. The studio was/is actually owned (if one were to peel away the many layers) by the (relatively extraordinarily wealthy) son of the head of a microstate in continental Europe. Not going to lie, I envied the kind of money they were making. The photographer quit after 6 months though "because there were too many strings attached", anecdotes I would rather not retell.
(I'm keeping this as vague as possible in case they're watching.

Wonderful compilation. I'm just fascinated by efforts of gargantuan-bordering-on-colossal proportions. For example, I was probably more excited when Godspeed You! Black Emperor released their "Behemoth" track in the form of Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress a short while ago than I was for Levez Vos Skinny Fists Comme Antennas to Heaven though I knew it would be of (slightly - GY!BE epitomize perfection in everything they do) inferior quality. I similarly can't wait for Max Richter to release his 8 hour lullaby album, Sleep. The way The Other Side Of Midnight flows is just beautiful.
