Wayward Pines S01E09
Reading the bad reviews so many idiots gave the series after watching just the pilot episode, thinking they knew what they were talking about when they talk about how "illogical" it is. If they'd just trusted the script writers and stuck with it until E05 their questions would've been answered. Idiots.

Wow. That was one heck of a season finale. Some serious satisfactory pay-off and an appropriately intense way to bring the first season to a close. When I started the show I had no idea what it would reveal itself to really be about, and it was very well written. Also, unexpectedly emotional right at the end there.
But what the hell with that very last scene?? They must've had season two in the works all along, because that was NOT a satisfactory cliffhanger (if such a thing exists).

Do you guys know why The Legacy Collection of The Lion King's score sounds so different to anything else released of TLK and doesn't sound like it does in the movie?
I'd say the score presented here is the score fully orchestrated and symphonic without synths as Hans Zimmer liked to add back then..
But tell me guys, what happened here?
I know someone who works with Zimmer and hes told me why... And it ain't pretty...
According to my source, when Disney approached him about the legacy collection release, he said he absolutely wanted it remixed as he felt the original mix was weak.
My source then went on to talk about how Jay Rifkin originally mixed the score back in 1994, who was Hans's associate & best friend. Then in 2003 they had a huge clash in which they sued each other. And that might be the reason why he doesn't like the old mix.

Wow. Impressive. I see. The new mix doesn't sound bad, but it's just not what was in the movie not what we're used to. I kinda like it because it's more orchestrated than others, and it's a bit louder, but in some cues, even the choir is a bit different. It's just not what you've heard in the movie, even if the mix then wasn't the best.

Being a Brit, I laughed a few times at the childish side of the British humour (there wasn't any Brit wit in it - wasn't that kind of film). But apart from that, I have to say it didn't really appeal. It was too gory and by the end it was just too damn weird. Shame.

What they were doing, again IMO, was make an American action film, a la Michael Bay, but run through a British filter. And as anyone who has seen a Bay film - you have my sympathies - you know that in the third act the action must exceed whatever set pieces proceeded it and so absurdity gets piled upon absurdity until the third act makes no logical sense whatsoever.

I enjoyed it. As Pegg and Frost and Wright put it, you have to love what you satirize. And all three stated they love action movies.
An effective satire is a tricky beast and its not one American cinema has a good grip on. Personally, I believe my American brethren have confused parody with satire and parody is much easier to do. Point out the silliness of whatever genre you're poking fun at for 90 minutes and you have a film. The actors don't even have to keep a straight face throughout.
Satire not only requires the actors keep a straight face but taking the absurdities and pushing them just short of their breaking points, keeping the film within the realm of possibility. (Once a satire goes over the top it loses its strength and becomes a farce.)
Dr. Strangelove is a pitch perfect example of satire. When you see it - interesting how we see a movie, but watch TV - you probably say to yourself "I can see that happening" whereas a parody gets so ridiculous it could only happen in a film.

I need to add these titles to my set - all I have at present is "Ghost Writer 1", "Ghost Writer 2", etc.
Track 23 is hands-down one of the best cues ever composed. I first heard it on the car radio on my birthday, almost exactly three years ago, when BBC Radio 3 were doing a special week on film music and for once played something post-2000.

Track 23, "The Truth About Ruth", is likely my second favorite cue of the score. The first is "Rhinehart Publishing", definitely, though it's length is too short.
I don't know if I've ever mentioned that as my favorite cue out of the score, but it's one that stood out to me immediately.

My favorite track of this album.
The second disc, merely consistent of atmospheric tracks or 'soundscapes' also take my favor, namely 'Tomorrow' of "Tomorrow / Lull / Celestial Feedback". I always take the most pleasure hearing this music out of any of the other particular tracks that play during the loading screen. I think it's a perfect piece of music suited along with its synth sound to represent the vastness and beauty of the universe in and of itself :)

That's fun because now we can have more details than the cover with real time GPU, but this movie was pre calculated with a few money I think, even the PS2 can do better.

I just heard the BGM score of Zootopia in the background of a shitty first dates program in Spain.. I knew they'd fucking use it for reality programs anytime.. it's also kinda saddening. lol But what's funny here is that I KNEW they would use it because this TV channel tends to use loads of recent movie music for their shitty reality programs.. and what's even funnier, is that they put the one cue that I expected them to use, "Work Slowly and Carry a Big Shtick"

Secret Weapons over Normandy, a WWII video game by LucasArts, and scored by Giacchino :) Very Williams-esque sound :)
Yes! That's right! Secret Weapons Over Normandy is a flight-simulation game that takes place during World War II, and Michael Giacchino scored it. Within the same year he worked on another World War II game, Call of Duty, which is a very action-packed, dissonant, bombastic score, especially compared to that of the much more thematic Secret Weapons Over Normandy. And Dave's right, very much like the Medal of Honor scores, it does in fact have a very Williams-esque sound.
Oh, and furthermore, this is my absolute favorite cue:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QC_IffOCqQU
It's so beautiful. The word thematic comes to mind again.

I can and will NOT come up with - even a top 10 of my favorite video game tracks. It would be an impossible task for me. In the brief words of Count Dooku, "There are too many."
The Darkest Dungeon track is decent, but gets much better as it goes on. I don't find myself enjoying it nearly as much as I do his Prince of Persia material, but I think I'll find myself liking it more and more as I listen to it.
The Residents Evil track is awesome. I.. Think that's all that must be spoken about it. :p
The Majora's Mask arrangement is nice, but I'll have a more refined opinion of it later. It's late; 2 AM. Clonemaster is not always well of composure at these hours.

Oh golly, memories from last year's show week flooding back... those string parts will haunt me forever lol. Sondheim is definitely creative and the music sure works for the subject matter, but he sure as heck wasn't a string player. Or if he was he wasn't much better than Todd himself to his musicians - a truly murderous score to play. It gets fun eventually, once you've got the hang of just how insane the music is and go with it. But the first few weeks were insane.
I watched a couple of gory clips from the movie on YouTube. Not my kind of movie. The stage play was grim enough for me lol. I have to say though, Johnny Depp was pretty damn good from what I saw.

https://youtu.be/99gTC0gHZYY?t=2m29s). Sneaky, but at that point in the film, referred to is the 'Resistance', it won't be said which resistance by the character who was in it. Well, Medal of Honor: Underground is a World War II game, in which you play as a character part of the French Resistance; movements that fought against the German occupation of France. That's most likely what they're referencing, and I think why Giacchino stuck in the theme is kind of obvious by this point. :p

Very interesting! And what a beautiful piece of score. I should watch more stuff Giacchino's worked on like this. Really beautiful. :)

Interesting! How is it different? Presumably orchestration? Added synths/percussion? Or is it pretty similar?

None of Beck's score? What a surprise. Hope it gets a score album release.
Yep, None Of Beck's Score, But Of Recent They Seem to Do A Songs & A Score Release For Most Things. So Maybe.
I didn't know Christophe Beck was doing the score for Trolls, should be a good one then, he does good scores for animated/family films. Hope it eventually gets a release, too..

In the videos I've noticed that they are playing a score cue but very very ralentized, slow, more to the beat of Disneyland, calm. I don't mind. I'm not sure or think they need exclusive new recorded orchestration for the parade of Nick and Judy, as they were just for the promotion of the movie. So far they aren't completely permanent, I think. :) If they do a Zootopia rendition in the park, maybe, but I don't think that's gonna happen, or is posible! But would be fun.
So much Zootopia videos is making me want to get the Blu-ray so hard.. :cryingbatman:

At least I consider his animation-family scores his most "liveliest" if that word exists, I mean more fun, more upbeat, however I know some live action scores of him that are good, too. Without counting Garfield which I'm counting in the "family" group.
Also, yes, go to Disneyland Tokio! You may not regret it.

...and the credits are rolling on Due Date (2010). Nice to see RDJ in another role, along with Michelle Monaghan (Ethan Hunt's cutie from M:I-3 and the girl from Source Code) and the brief appearance of Jamie Foxx. But I have to say, as other reviews have said, the movie wasn't well scripted. A genuine splutter of mirth may have escaped the confines of my chest via my throat perhaps five times, but it could've been so much better. Shame.
The last 20 minutes of that movie were insane. Also, I have to say I didn't see the plot twist at the Grand Canyon coming.

Sulley greatly approves. One of Powell's best scores. There was a time, over three years ago, when I discovered it's true magnificence - I couldn't stop listening to it. So happy we have the sessions.

I haven't seen that one before - It's beautiful! (Actually, even if it was terrible, it's still something different to the promo material!!) I'd tweak it here and there, but I love the concept. I might just have to have a go at making another version of it myself.
