First time. And, wow. It's stunning, beautiful. An exciting score. Thematic. Some terrific melodies. A lot of the action material even holds daring resemblance to Call of Duty's score.

I'll admit there's been a couple of 'eh' moments, but there are so many great moments.

EDIT, some later thoughts: Definitely one of the better Giacchino scores. I'm sure to say that it's much better than Star Trek... I listened to some of that and I only heard one or two cues that I really liked, and I noticed the first couple of notes of the main theme are basically derived from the same first couple of "The Battle of Monte Cassino" from Medal of Honor: Underground, and that cue alone I think is much better than Star Trek's score as a whole, from what I've heard.

Every RTS game is enhanced with Battle of Hoth.
For being such a long track, the changing moods really have a great chance of matching onscreen action of the game.
I've never really listened to the actual score for the Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth games because I had so many scores on random all the time.
BoH was always my favorite to hear when playing.

Not Williams' but McNeely's Shadows of the Empire is also great for gaming.
The long tracks really find their place and make it all come together.

HBO would be a life saving venue for that product, but AMC really feels different. Given they're doing The Walking Dead.
It's just one of those things I can see them treating like Van Helsing meets martial arts.
They'll add martial arts combat styles to it for the action and they'll invent new gadgets and weapons.
Run of the mill gimmicks that studios seem to love.

It would be nice if AMC picked it up. Make it the go-to channel for graphic novel adaptations.

I'm only ever interested in the overall quality of the narrative, its script, the direction, editing and performances. All of which I've found with Roanoke to be well above the series batting average.

I couldn't care less how few minutes of screentime a particular actor gets so long as those few minutes count.

Leslie Jones was hysterical. His death scene: AMAZING! Same goes for Evan Peters surprise execution.

Does anyone like the soundtrack to Kubo and the Two Strings?

Might watch the movie later.
But, I'm honestly tired of animation.

I didn't even pay attention to Finding Dory after I was waiting for it.

So many animated movies, and mostly about animals so it's been run into the ground as a theme now.

Remember that year when everyone made a movie about penguins?
Same script, different actors.

It's like that.
A brand new fad.

I watched Zootopia, so I don't think there needs to be anything else for a good while.

But, I'm honestly tired of animation.

The hell makes animation special? Shouldn't superhero and horror films be given that treatment? They're far more likely to be formulaic. Plus, when there are kids, you CAN't kill animation.

CLONEMASTER 6.53

Well, superhero, animated (especially with animals) and horror films are pretty much manifested as at least one - multiple films every year. There'll never be any shortage, aka how bad would it be if there was a year off of films being released in general - that's probably quite debatable. And they are all very over-done.

I think Zootopia was almost like the ultimate blowout for any animated movie featuring animals.

Nine Lives is out, or coming out.
Kevin Spacey mouthing off as a reincarnated cat or something.

And then there's that Secret Life of Pets.

Sausage Party wasn't about animals, but food was given human-like qualities, just like they make animals look like humans.

Prehistoric primates were a thing and Pixar really dropped the ball on The Good Dinosaur.

The quality of their products really feel outweighed by obligation.

I remember when people genuinely loved the Tory Story movies because they took their time between movies to develop the scenes alone.

But now, it's all nothing but shared qualities of Early Access games on Steam that focus on texture packs and lighting.

I only look forward to DC these days now.

That's not even animated!

I guess a break could be reasonable, but I haven't seen enough animated films like I have superhero ones, so maybe that's why I'm not fatigued.

The only frame of reference I had with Leonard Cohen was with film and tv.
Outside of that, I tried to listen to one whole album but found whatever's used for film and tv was the best.

Commercial music, whole albums are extremely rare to be good from start to finish.
I don't fully trust order selected for the album.
Whenever the hit song is not the last track, you can turn the album off when you reach the final hit song.

Quite a few times, I'd listen to an album about 3/4 of the way through until I hear the final popular song and then the rest of the album just feels like a bad sugar high coming down. The rapid decline in quality and mood is just depressing.
Like the after effects of any high. Sugar, ejaculation, booze, drugs.
Like the very last 10-20 minutes of The Matrix Reloaded.
You feel so estranged to the rest of the content and wonder what you're doing with your life.

If they saved it for the last track on the album, the rest of the flow might actually be worth it.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. But the album flows are very schizophrenic with only a select audience understanding the actual context implied.

"The Frozen Forest" - Jack Wall / [Call of Duty: Black Ops III ( Official Soundtrack)]

A wonderful, more atmospheric-driven cue. There's a fantastic depth. Great, beautiful melody with eerie statements and synth undertones all throughout make for an entertaining listen. And there's that recurrent trumpet. Jack Wall brought some of the best and most interesting musical scores to the series, and I really hope he returns for Treyarch's next game in the franchise.

Especially with Black Ops II. To bring forth a mixture of more practical orchestral action and suspense score (he's great at both) and culturally-rich music of ethnic background to suit the 1980s portions of the game combining with the techno-futuristic style and sometimes RCP-sounding music to suit the 2025 portions of the game, and achieved kept interest, at least through up to a little more than the first half, after which it's only slightly boring or grating.

And as for Black Ops III, I'm not entirely sure. There's music of great value in here for sure; there's most definitely a couple of cues I love and very much enjoy listening to, but I've still yet to familiarize myself with this score as I have Black Ops II.

I honestly hope that that's not my reaction to JMJ's Oxygene 3, considering that I'm not too keen on 17 (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ivTOqoNMAT8).

Well, I really love the second Oxygene album. The previews I've heard from the 3rd sound promising, it seems as if he has been able to develop it further.

Beside that, JMJ has always been superior to Michael Cretu musically. Both can be pretty tacky at times but when MC wants to sound experimental he sounds ridiculous in fact. Both have the problem that they're getting old - and that they sound like it despite their attempts to make 'younger' music. JMJ has an advantage there since he just worked with a multitude of current-day styles alongside retro stuff. So I expect something interesting :)

I really did enjoy what I heard of both the first two Oxygene albums, but they do need the obligatory repeat listens before I say anything further. Once the 3 pack releases (which is coming later in the US than France for whatever reason), then I'll binge all three of them. Plus, I've been warming up to 17, and you say there are more samples?

That statement of Jarre working with the old and the new definitely holds true, since he did begin working on 3 during the recording of the Electronica albums, which should add to the experience of making 3.

watching Phantasm 2.

Watched the first one (remastered) yesterday.
It was creepy and highly disturbing. Great story.
The sphere scared the shit out of me. Of what it can do.

I remember only fragments of these movies growing up.
My older brother used to watch them all the time and I only caught parts of the movies.

Watched these movies earlier this year after Angus Scrimm died. Agree the first one is creepiest but I like how the second goes for more gore, action and weird dimensional-portals stuff

DKC 3 is an odd animal. Very unlike the other games in many ways.
I think it's underrated though.

Well, is more of the same if you ask me. But a fitting end to a good ol' trilogy. Fun times

@DKC3: Great game, love the music, (interestingly, there's actually a track clearly referencing Super Mario 64's "Inside the Castle Walls"), and DKC and DKC3 were the only games of the trilogy I had contact with when I was younger, so I barely know DKC2.

At some point you can see one of the Kongs playing a Nintendo 64; that's when that track plays. It's a cute easter egg.

WHAAAaaat?!? Anyway, maybe you just didn't have the chance. It's like when I say I never watched a single Lord of the Rings movie.
