Uhh wut???
How about the scene from trailer 3 when Logan says "we're gonna need Mystique" and she asks "why?" and he says "because you're a cold-hearted bitch" and she replies "well, don't hold back"
Also, there's a shot of Mystique used in the teaser that seems to be from the scene when she's going through Trask's files and starts crying as she sees the autopsy reports. What's shown in the teaser doesn't match what's used in the film.
Watch the teaser at 1:04 (

Okay, yeah, you're right - a lot of scenes in the trailers went unused. Like, everything in the first 45 seconds of trailer 1.
But I liked seeing little Polaris from the TV spots ("I'm a princess. What are you?") and of course all the Rogue scenes.
I still wonder how the "bitch" scene would have played out in the film.
Also, watch that same teaser at 1:20 and there's a weird shot of two Patrick Stewarts.

I'm assuming it obviously played when Raven comes back to the mantion. Logan found out she was there, and they had a talk about why they needed her. That's the best I could do :p
I've always noticed that, but doesn't it play during the "Charles & Charles" scene? If not, it's probably 2 different shots that are used in the film, just spliced together like that for effect.

I guess they changed Mystique's mansion scene from being a full day to a quick night.

Actually I think past Charles would have come into the future, and future Charles would change past Charles to look like future Charles so that past Charles could recognize him. :p
They barely had any effects done by the time of the first trailer (look closely and you'll see Colossus punching a nonexistent Sentinel), I doubt they'd waste time on something they weren't at least considering using in the final cut.

Yes it definitely is daytime, I noticed that early on. Maybe she was originally in the mansion for longer and they cut that scene down.
So there's still another cut of this film out there. And it wasn't released in 3D like the theatrical cut was, so maybe there'll be a triple-dip (God I hope not) before Apocalypse opens.

Nah, there's always tons of footage they leave out that are kept in the trailers. Some of them are brief shots, but other times (like this Mystique scene) they suggest completely unused plot points. It doesn't mean that another completed cut of the film exists.
The AoU teaser did that. With that woman stripping in the pool Thor eventually goes to. That was apparently supposed to be a big subplot whittled down to a brief twenty seconds.

Perhaps useless in the immateriality of the geometries it invents to enrich a really poor adaptation of a wikipedia entry on lucid dreaming. Nonetheless, not quite boring.
Memento remains Nolan's undisputed greatest achievement.
Then come Following and Insomnia.
Then The Dark Knight and Inception.
Interstellar and The Prestige are tied as similar movies by which I mean, not forgetting importance of scale, of similar ambition mitigated by the writing which turns a structure merely pretending to be complicated into something plainly intelligible.
Then comes everything else. I'd say Nolan's greatness ended with Insomnia. Inception and TDK are the best of the worst the latter suffering (like Interstellar) from a trite ending.

I liked it. It's a glimpse of three stages of indie development really. Phil Fish, the FEZ guy, and his tale of how he tries to get his game ready for a first public demo at PAX a long time after getting some early acclaim. Edmund and Tommy, the Meat Boy guys, and their story of how a game gets out, what's at stake for a couple of devs and how the development cycle affects the devs themselves. Jonathan Blow, the Braid guy, who basically has "made" it but he's tells us how the people ultimately receive the game and how initial expectations evolve as the game goes public.
It's a behind the scenes type thing without getting too technical about it. Sorta tells you how games don't just pop up out of nowhere. Just a tad dramatic would be my only issue with it otherwise everything's good. Liked Jim Guthrie's score too.

Enjoyment is subjective. Quality, on the other hand, isn't. In any field, there are very specific rules defining the various degrees of quality.
Edit: as with all things, the passing of time expands, or otherwise changes, our understanding of art. So it may very well be that, eventually, at some point in time, a Christophe Beck or Brian Tyler emulator could be considered an artist (in the conservative, academic sense). I'm laughing at the idea but society's taken worse turns than that in the past century alone hahaha

The movie is phenom and the best return to form Assayas could've produced after the largely trivial Something in the Air. I still need to understand how many outstanding Kristen Stewart performances we need to see before the public will start acknowledging her with the respect she deserves. She's tremendously talented and, time and time again, she has always delivered terrific performances (The Runaways, Welcome to the Rileys, On the Road, Camp X-Ray, Clouds).

Yup.
The film is outstanding and leaves me with more questions than answers. I suppose I'll be thinking about it all week now.
Stewart was on a path to success and then she made the fatal mistake of signing up for Twilight. There's not much any good actress could've done with as boring a character as Bella Swan. The first post-Twilight movie I saw her in was Camp X-Ray and i've come to the realization that the thing she's always being mocked for, she now uses that to build her portrayal. She's grown as an actress. Not something one can say for some of the newer people in Hollywood.

From what I understand it was going pretty well until the higher-ups began to tinker with the plot.
Well, those higher-ups made the movie they wanted to; too bad they don't know anything about how to make films.

This was a really good purchase.
I just love Beltrami.
'He's Awake' gives me goosebumps!
To top it all off, Glass is involved in the music somewhere.
The prelude screams Glass, plus a few other parts somewhere.
I lost track of the tracks. I got playing in the background so I don't see it all the time.
I just heard a really low, gutteral bassy sound that just screams Beltrami.

Sparky thank you for the share though I'm underwhelmed by the amount of Glass in it. I knew he would've been a secondary character (because of name placement- poor marketing choice nonetheless) but everything about the score sounds absolutely awful as if Glass played almost no part in it whatsoever and whatever he did do was laid for butchering. I thought the pairing of the two was a terrible idea as soon as it was announced. Divergent musical styles aside, one is a recipient of the Praemium Imperiale and widely considered one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. The other is... well... Marco Beltrami. Welp.

Straw poll: what do you all make of the release?
Yeah, I think Glass was brought in for the prelude and some themes for Beltrami to adapt.
Why he gets credited for each track.
Like Age of Ultron, Silvestri wasn't there. But everyone adapted the theme he created so iTunes just dished out free cred.
I enjoyed it a lot.
Some tracks had some really nice Beltrami moments.
But, to me, it feels more like they did what happened for Watchmen.
Instead of mixing existing score, they got him in to do specific things for the film to take us back a very short time period.
 2009...6 years ago.
The Pruit Igo suite came long before. But substantiated finely in Watchmen.
I think that's the mood the film is going for.
I've not watched it but the trailers really lead up to that.
The Sparktank, I prefer using VLC, though I hate it often gives me problems/doens't play .m2ts very smoothly. I suppose Media Player doesn't?
I normally use Foobar2000 all the time.
But with the new banner, i wanted it in MPC-HC (external LAV filters + FFDShow).
The problem with .m2ts is that you're playing the .m2ts and not the bluray playlist file.
Blurays are designed with playlists.
BLURAY_MOVIE\BDMV\PLAYLISTS\0000.mpls
It's one of those you have to play.
Of the .bdmv file which is also a playlist file.
BLURAY_MOVIE\BDMV\movie.bdmv
It could also be your system is not powerful enough to playback bluray.
It depends what your system specs are.
If it's not playing smoothly, your system is choking on full bluray details.
if it's interlaced content, that's even worse than anything in the whole wide world.
VLC doesn't have powerful codecs.
MPC-HC (has to be "-HC") has internal LAV Filters which are extremely powerful and always updated.
Intel QuickSync friendly. Nvidia CUDA friendly. DXVA2 ("copy-back" is better than "native").
VLC doesn't do those unless you go screwing around with advanced options.
"Windows" Media Player is garbage too.
MPC-HC is king.
MPC-HC also allows you to render to MadVR.
VLC will never allow that.

Good grief, no. You know me and my style of cover art. Would I be the prez if I churned out stuff like that?! Lol
I'm still looking for a cover that grabs me. This image is ok, but not that great. And the other images/posters just don't do anything for me. Could somebody *cough* have a go at one using a screencap of the main titles? That might just work...

i know, loved the score. i was put off from the movie when some of the more lukewarm reviews started coming in.
but i figured, a chance to listen to it with some context is an altogether terrible idea.

I think after seeing it once, I can view it again and maybe like it a little better. Kinda like Fury Road. My expectations were lowered, so I enjoyed that the second time around.
It Follows did kinda creep me out in a few places, though. I plan on *maybe* watching it with a girl in the near future

The horror was had some creepy moments, but it felt more like an after-school special.

It took you two viewings to realize Fury Road was good?? I knew in like ten minutes this was either going to be an atrocious parody of sorts or cinematic gold. By the end, I was clapping like mad.

It's imperitive you now that I have extremely high expectations for almost every movie I see. I know that's my problem and I'm working on it, but for now I'm trying to deal. Fury Road I was expecting to blow my mind. I left the theatre saying "that's it?" I thought there was just going to be more. With a 98% fresh on RT and nearly every critic in the world praising it, my already high expectations had just been blown through the roof. I did like it, it was the usual "good, not great" as I alway like to say. Then after my expectations were lowered, I liked it more - since I knew not to expect too much....

I think most were just impressed with the new-age action the director can do.
There's a lot of material in it you can make GIF's out of.
That's the largest appeal.
There's a lot of small, cool things in it that I love.
Storywise, it's very slow.
By the time the first half hour of action goes by, somewhat of a storyline is established.
Visually, Miller delivered what he did from the first three with modern technology.
Which is an incredible feat.
He adapted very well with today's technology.
Although, the stunts are mixed with CG, they're still great.
The first couple MM films were largely practical effects. Scary ass standards from where he came from.

I had this too. But milder, I think. So I decided on a couple of things.
1. no trailers (they tend to spoil too much nowadays)
2. no peeking at reviews or ratings (i'm naturally attracted to the bad ones)
3. know only whether i want to see it badly (this can be realized when you see some posters, hear loglines, learn that some awesome person is part of the production or access other tiny bits of info), anything less means i need to break the first two points
It helps not knowing everything about the movie before watching it. The young virgin mind exposed to such bright lights can surely faze it a little but that's when another one kicks in.
4. never shy away from giving a film a second chance
The people who made spent a sizeable portion of their lives making it. And they aren't insane (most of the time), so definitely they thought it was worth it. the least i can do is give 'em another chance.
These aren't hard and fast rules, there are always exceptions. But it does ease things considerably.
