Do you guys know what kind of music could this be, could anyone of you get me more music like this? Because I really like this.

Check out really old scores, before the 80's. Synth was huge for cheaper productions.
Vangelis is expensive production.
But millions of clones and others out there for movies no one's heard of.

If you're going the 80's, earliest 80's possible with lesser known films.

Fair enough. The ugliness I imagine may stem from having it combined with the track number (which I almost always have just for the sake of) and they just seem redundant/jammed in there.
Side question: with multiple discs do you guys restart numbering or keep it continuous?

By structure I meant how directors and composers choose to organize and 'break' their slate order. I mentioned this in one of my early posts I'm too lazy to unearth, but the formula still used today is technically obsolete. It served a purpose when movies were shot and edited on (reels of) film - 1m = first reel, 2m = second reel, 3m = third reel etc - each reel consisting of about 11 minutes of film. The advent of digital, however, removed the need for such a rigid skeleton and now cue numbering is a largely arbitrary exercise.

Williams, Newton Howard, Debney, Beltrami and Bates I've noticed are (pretty much) the only guys who's cue numbers reset on every reel. There are others, but they come to mind. Zimmer, Jablonsky (basically everyone out of RCP), Silvestri, Desplat and many more continue the cue number on every reel. That's the way I like it. Keep dem numbers going, baby!

And if it's multiple discs, I restart. It doesn't make sense. Why start a new disc if you're gonna keep the track numbers going? However, by that logic I guess you can kinda apply it to the way some of the cue numbers are organized. But I still prefer them going continuously.

I saw that cover a while ago but it's re-sized upwards right? I really liked it and wanted to look for the base picture to make one myself but could only find a medium version of it. The picture looks like it's from the Chris Muir shoot though there isn't a "RAW" version of it online and it's a shame because it's the best from the batch that can be found (http://www.secretlycanadian.com/press/electricyouth/). Regardless of whether it's actually 1000 x 1000, phenom cover. Imma try and make one myself as soon as I'm free just for fun, possibly combining two from the four with faux glitches etc. It looks better in my mind than how it will inevitably come out hahaha

I wish this would leak sometime. Damn it, I want it so bad. We only have 18 out of 39 cues so far, and some of the best cues are still missing.

And what's interesting is that none of the source cues are included in the cue list at all, even though some of them must surely have been specially written, like the background music in the Dinoco tent, the Rust-Eze polka by Joey Miskulin, and the news broadcast music.

That's understandable if the silence was in the middle of a cue, but at the beginning? The cue hasn't even started yet!

You don't leave long gaps of silence for all the non-scored scenes in a movie, so why leave such a long gap before this cue starts? I'm confused lol. :p

Calling McFarlane's brand of humor "stupid" would be a compliment, proving when you aim for the dirt, it's hard to miss. And he's made a lot of money with that style of humor also proving you'll never lose money underestimating the intelligence of the average viewer.

emptymetaljacket

I was merely saying I had a nice experience watching Ted 2 because, to me, it was a nice movie alright, a decent comedy, you can call me "stupid" but I love Seth MacFarlane and his stuff, this guy (For me) is simply great, this dude's a good comedian, and is as much score and movie enthusiast at us. Me saying I had a great experience watching it at the cinema doesn't mean Ted 2 is a masterpiece, I meant it because the picture quality and the screen was great and so was the surround. I loved to hear the score like that, and the great bass of, for example, the 80s pop song in a scene. :P

lol

He's not a good comedian. He was great but he's settled into the piss-poor side of comedy, catering to really bad taste and he knows it. That's why he's been trying to rebrand himself as a "Hollywood superstar" for the past half a decade, ever since The Cleveland Show debacle (which very few forgave). Cleveland epitomizes MacFarlane's writing at its worst (which is a shame because... well... he's the only black main character) and it's not even a progressive worst - he's been, objectively, outright unbearable ever since the beginning. Family Guy and American Dad! (the latter never being more than the placeholder/template spin-off show it was designed as) started to suffer visibly around the same time TCS was created and Seth's been desperate for redemption ever since... failing. The shock factor ("killing" off Brian on Family Guy - the real money maker) didn't work and borderline back fired because the dog/meta-character they introduced to replace him turned out to be an even steeper low in terms of writing. And after Ted's very modest success, he attempted hosting the Oscars in 2013 but the result was a new kind of lukewarm stupidity I never hope to revisit especially when there are so many other outstanding hosts such as Tina Fey, Ellen and Ricky Gervais - all three of his Golden Globes are must-watch in my opinion. Seth's Oscars flop must've really hit home hard because A Million Ways To Die In The West and Ted 2 were far from watchable, let alone good :/

I honestly think it's one of the best films I've seen in years.

At first I was bummed when I heard Mark Thomas wasn't doing the score for the film, but Eshkeri did a marvelous job. And they did use some of Thomas' material too. Hopefully the sessions or something will leak someday.

I wish they'd used the real "Life's a Treat" song in the end credits instead of the rap version.

I don't think it was ever a YouTube rip. It was just the W&G tracks off Nott's promo separated into a little album by themselves, which someone then uploaded onto YouTube.

I nabbed it when it was re-up'd on Scoreman's original thread, and then I re-up'd it sometime later when it seemed no one else was going to oblige.

Then I requested the music from the other shorts... and along came The Skeleton Man...

TheSkeletonMan939

I thought that the W&G "promo" was really just selections from the Julian Nott portfolio CD that Lockdown posted a while ago.

The W&G stuff was uploaded to YouTube, which is I think why Sulley had it in 192kbps.

Lol I hadn't even noticed! What an odd feeling... I'm catching DAK up, slowly but surely. ;)

Did Nott ever get back to you about anything beyond that one response?

Nope, 'fraid not. In fact I was watching a presentation James Horner gave back in 2005 yesterday and he said very plainly that when he composes for film, the music doesn't belong to him one little bit. The studio owns the entire thing, and he's not even legally allowed to reuse a theme here and there, as they are copyright of the studio. Can you believe it?! He the frickin' composer, but it's completely copyrighted to the studios. Composers have no rights to their own music.

So that explains why Nott had no idea about the scores.

The difference in sound quality between the DVD and Blu-ray is like night and day.

Were they mixed at all differently? If so, what's the chances of a film like Cars being mixed differently for the blu-ray?

TheSkeletonMan939

Were they mixed at all differently? If so, what's the chances of a film like Cars being mixed differently for the blu-ray?

0% chance of that. There's no point of remixing it all just for a format upgrade... :/

The W&G audio mixes were the same across DVD and BD.

Well, sometimes for remastering, they make new mixes, THOUGH they are using the original stems and stuff to make a new, improved mix.

Yeah, but how often does that happen?

Remixing is mostly for films that initially had mono/stereo mixes only.

Older films that originally were mixed in surround are remixed for Blu every now and then, but the stuff we're interested in is too recent for that. I'm talking about stuff like Terminator 2, which has 3 or 4 different surround mixes.

Gold, I like the remastered trek a lot.I am a fan of the ship more than anything else, and the new shots for me are stunning, while the stories themselves remain unchanged. There are minor details that bother, like the glowing impulse engines that were never red before, but it is a good faith try to fit the old into the look of the newer ships and Enterprise before it.

is it a new announcement?!

A lot of older movies aren't getting big announcements.
The Land Before Time bluray never got an announcement for bluray.

"same master as the DVD just in HD"
It's not "Shout!Factory" doing it, so it should be done using a new master.
Shout!Factory/ScreamFactory have a reputation of upscaling DVD or using identical transfers to previous bluray releases (in case of Mad Max trilogy).

"Remaster" doesn't apply since it's a first-time release on bluray. They don't count DVD releases.

The master used for DVD could be gone once it made DVD. They didn't know bluray was going to show up.
If it is the same master, they would still post-process it some more to keep up with today's standards.

Given that it's Universal, there should be some minor things done to it.
Hopefully not DNR'ed. It's cell animation. Bound to be some noise on the screen for some parts.

James P.Sullivan

What the? o-o That was unexpected, like.. I didn't ever see it, is it a new announcement?!

OH PLEASE OH PLEASE! LET BALTO FOR THIS CHRISTMAS AND I'LL BE HAPPY! C'MON! IT'S THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY :c

As for this release.. well, it ain't gonna look terrible, acceptable, but I KNOW that it's not a new remaster, so it'll use the same master as the DVD, just in HD. But for this movie it's fine.

Yep, and it's the 20th anniversary of Apollo 13, also scored by Horner.

And it's the 20th anniversary of Toy Story.

And it's the 20th anniversary of the birth of a particular purple-and-blue furry monster...

Yep, and it's the 20th anniversary of Apollo 13

There's a very nice "remastered from 4K" bluray out for that.
Looks incredible.

Toy Story won't ever need a remaster.
It's pure CG.
The only thing they could do is update the graphics on that movie. Give each character more complex movement and points of articulation in limbs.
Texture packs.

And throw in extra backgrounds and characters.

But that Day is certainly a long time away. Shame really, i had him pegged as having a bright future ahead of him.

No, nowhere near as good. I mean, it's David Newman, so it's not bad, but it's completely lacking the charm of the first and it's lacking in any main theme really.

There are some nice cues, but there's a lot of electric guitar and drums.

How are you finding the first? What do you think of it?

His score for Shaun the Sheep is all right. But only because it's derived from work done by Mark Thomas.

Continuing with ancient Rome, something I've played numerous times. Very evocative choral take on the allegretto from Beethoven's 7th symphony gets things started. The more colourful score thus far. Being a television production, budgetary restrictions limit orchestra size, but the quality of Silotto's compositions still shine through.

I love this score. A Human Sacrifice, Cleopatra's Triumph & Death Of Ceasar are my favorites.
Yeah, Carlo Siliotto is a brilliant composer.
