Currently listening to Mr. Bean's Holiday. Instead of dispersed jingles like in Bean's first theatrical misadventure, Goodall created a much more memorable score for the sequel that disregarded the usual wacky comic tunes in favor of energetic, upbeat themes with choir interspersed. Great score for a great film.

I also saw Finding Dory today. Loved it just as much as the first, and Newman's work was once again great. Being a sequel I figured it would be a mediocre rip-off of the original but aside from the title it was essentially a completely original story of its own.

Finished listening to it. I really liked it. Contained a lot of interesting styles within it. The bit with Gwen hiding from the Lizard was a bit much, but not as bad as Captain Logan says it is. I still like the Elfman scores better, but it's a step up from it's sequel, which score is a guilty pleasure.

Horner did a great job with that film. It was distinct from Elfman's and Young's compositions for the original trilogy. I really only ever listen to the first half of the score - since I start it and never finish it :p - but the piano soundscape in that half is lovely. I can't remember based on my viewings of the film if the piano is used in the second half much... but it's much better than what RCP did in the sequel.

I at least feel glad I listened to the whole thing in one go (including the extras), as I usually tend to take a while to listen to scores. The piano is pretty present in the second half, from what I can recall. Spider-Man 3 will probably stay the favorite, but TASM was a great listen. I want a 20th Anniversary release of Dragonheart's soundtrack. Thought Universal would give a bit of fuss about it, judging their fusses with last year's anniversaries, and how much they mention it everywhere, want to do a franchise out of them and even a big reboot. Yet, nothing was done so far, and it's sad. What would please me, at least would be a good 20th Ann. Blu-ray and soundtrack.

I think it might have to do with the fact that it simply isn't as big of a success as their other franchises. Granted, the third movie from last year was surprising enough, so there might be something planned, it's just they haven't said anything yet. I mean, if Transformers The Movie can have it's anniversary release, so can this.
---------- Post added at 12:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:41 PM ----------
Actually reading the wikipedia article, there's this:
On various days throughout the year in Toronto, a fully restored "20th anniversary edition" of Dragonheart with never-before-seen footage, enhanced visual effects, and a digitally remastered soundtrack is screened at the AMC Yonge & Dundas 24 theatre. On May 31 2016, in celebration of the film's 20th anniversary, a retrospective article was published on the making of DragonHeart featuring Scott Squires and Phil Tippett among others who worked on the film.
Something's happening, alright.

Trust me, it is a big sucess, it was a big sucess in 1996, it has always been a big sucess, has decent fans; and Universal wants to do a big franchise out of it, completely continuously making sequels. It's just they aren't interested. And who knows? Some label may be on the talks for it as we speak.

What you've quoted I've read since 2015 a lot.. dunno what it is.. but the anniversary year doesn't finishes til 2017 so there's still hope left for the soundtrack and Blu-ray release! Definitely if such effort of remastering has been done, Universal wouldn't want to just not release it.

I am not familiar with this directors work but I have seen a couple of trailers and I am not sure what to think.

Eh, a mixture of all 3. Definitely thriller, has some horror elements, totally avant-garde (that's Refn for you), made me sleepy because I was already tired to begin with and it was slow moving up until shit hits the fan at the end.
It's probably all of the above, considering how Chris Stuckmann described it and what I read.
There you have it.
It's eclectic in tone and execution.
Yes. I would say the cinematography, costume design/makeup and Cliff Martinez's awesome score were my favorite things about it.
Now it was similar to Only God Forgives in that it's not just a straight-forward plot like Drive was. But it was way better than OGF. There's symbolism and meanings in it and I'm still thinking about it. I haven't researched yet, but I have some theories.

Interesting. A lot of neighbors are setting off fireworks in my neighborhood also. What's the deal?
I also hear fireworks occasionally in the past few days. I think some people either can't wait for July 4th or it's in celebration of ID4:R.

I honestly like the way !!!!! did the loops better, but 3DMan has a bit more stuff. One could easily stick to !!!!!'s set if it was just that particular soundtrack. But if you wanted an entire era, the Classic Collection is awesome.
His sets for both the Adventure games and Heroes are absolutely recommended. Contains a lot of stuff that I didn't know existed. It's a blast listening to early versions of tracks.
That 20th Anniversary set has become obsolete to me now. Do you only have it for space reasons?

Since I've gotten a 1 TB hard drive, I've been importing a lot into iTunes.
Before, since I had !!!!!'s version then too, I would've deleted an album like this, but what I mean is I have space to waste, and stated once more, I have it also for collective/completion purposes, something I just wouldn't be doing if I still had my 400 GB as my main drive.
If you are still not understanding me, that's totally my fault. :p

Silly autistic me. I do the same thing. I was just never told the technical term.
Granted, I only have multiple versions of the same thing when there's enough of a difference. After getting more complete sets for Sonic soundtracks, I'd decided the ones I had were obsolete.

Even though I've been listening to The Beatles for years (probably since 2009), I am all of a sudden enjoying this song more than I ever have.
Considering I heard most of their discography when I was like, 9, or something, I've gone back to their music in the recent one or two years and enjoyed and appreciated it much more.
Great album, though. This and Let It Be are the albums of their catalogue that feel 'smaller' than the rest.

So I just got out of Finding Dory and I thought it was really great. I'm not really gonna say much other than it made me discover that my way of feeling emotion is through heart beats, which can sound obvious, but it was particularly noteworthy with this movie. I was so invested that I kept kept thinking about the movie and not my surroundings. That's when you know you got me.The big sequence at the end was something amazing. Would recommend, especially over Bland Sequel Rebuild.

I watched it yesterday, too. It was pretty good. I watched it in Atmos.. no big difference in sound, there was no "dimensional surround", the only major difference that I noticed, was.. that the film music score was louder and had more surround love which goes fine with me cuz I love it.

I honestly couldn't care for sound and picture, just as long as I saw the movie. It's been the most I've cared for a motion picture, even if I wasn't anticipating it. I sincerely doubt a movie is gonna make me care as much as Finding Dory did. I probably should make a thread about the things I thought and did before and during the movie. They're plenty.

Two things I've never been crazy about: the upbeat calliope and oscillating electronics Goldsmith tended to over-indulge in throughout his mid to late 90's output, otherwise a nice spooky score.

I also saw Finding Dory today. Loved it just as much as the first, and Newman's work was once again great. Being a sequel I figured it would be a mediocre rip-off of the original but aside from the title it was essentially a completely original story of its own.

watching Spider-Man '67 animated series. So damn good. Finding out the origins of several memes.
First episode, BAM. Meme. The one where he peeks around a rock. Used for "dafuq kind of thread did I just get into?" scenarios.
My back got thrown out. Slipped disk maybe. Pinched nerve.
I was bid-ridden for two days trying to correct myself. So many blanks and pillows to keep my feet elevated at 90 degree angle.
Just been spending the last few days trying to do so much. No more severe burning knots in my back.
Now I can get back on track with tasks I was doing before me back went out.
I've had multiple back injuries before. All teh fault of others. Made claims, got leave with pay and took extra days off and never lost a cent nor got fired for not notifying of my extended vacation. I really tried to quit one time because I didnt want to work for them if it meant less safety protocols to protect backs. I finally quite after working a week and then just telling them that I don't want to work for them anymore.
can't wait for season finale to Game of Thrones.
I just loved watching...
The forgotten Stark die. Excellent camera work. Zero feelings about it and didn't care how the others felt.
John Snow and Sansa Stark need to retire to Winterfell and need only protect their lands. Wait for the white zombies to show up and slay them with the one sword they have.
Arya, she can live or die. If she dies, it will be an awesome death. She's lived the most out of all the useless Starks.
A worthy warrior of her namesake.

I wonder if he still does those reading songs.
It's like talking over music. With a jaunty tone. Like his words just saunter and stomp through music to make a political point.
Stuff you never hear in movies unless it's some douche doing jazz and waving their arms around to syncronize with the music just for visual effects (and not so much about the singing or the words).

Largely underplayed in movies. Total support.
He had a tiny part in Michael Mann's "Heat" which he did good for the character it was, but it could have been just a little bit more.
Almost if he was hired for the part just because of his celebrity status as a musician.
Feast was the only other memorable role.
I can't remember anything else he did.
He did some voice acting, but you need a cheat sheet to remeber any of that.

That guy. He gets stoned right on the show, doesn't he? Like smokes real marijuana on camera with his friends and turns it into a show.
He was the 2 Broke Girls show for awhile.
Just watching the video now,
"I had a ROTTEN childhood. You want me to go into that? Probably not."
I absolutely love him. One of my older friends people I used to know from highschool in my old town used to play a lot of his stuff and I'd just sit there and admire every word. (we're not friends anymore since I moved to the big city and never thought to keep in touch; he's probably dead by now. Drugs. It's the only thing to do in that town other than work a meaningless job.)
I've never met anyone who liked him in that aspect until centuries later when I moved here and met a few Rollins fans.
My older brother has some albums, but not the spoken type stuff.
:rofldata: I was sitting in the back of my friend's family van one time and we were all going somewhere to support the local fire fighting society (since it's all volunteer work), and on the way, one of his kids asked me to read a Robert Munch book to them while the parents were talking in the front seats.
Something about a girl jumping on a plane.
I did the exact same thing Rollins was doing and questioning why she was left alone to get to an airport and why no one cared to try get her help.
Why was she even going to an airport? How is she qualified to fly the plane in the first place?
There are a lot of bad people out there and she could get kidnapped. She's facing serious consequences if she doesn't get home where she's supposed to be.
And in school. Is this a summer project of hers?
All that was page 1. His son did not like how I read stories.
I did that while watching Frozen for the first time. By then, the kids just ignored my rants and the parents laughed but had to tell me it was a kids movie.
She falls in love with a random stranger and plans to marry within the first 5 minutes of knowing him and then gets surprised that he betrays her and uses her for his own political scandals. That is not how love works.
 I really wanted to say so much more, but I wouldn't be able to censor it for the kids.
Frozen made the least sense to me as a story. It's a rehash of several morales we've all seen and heard before.
Beauty and the Beast, now that's a Disney movie! Woo.

Scam. They get most of their stuff from here or SoulSeek.
And they probably use a lot of MP3's to make their CD's. So ripping to MP3 again, you lose way more details and it starts to sound like a speaker held under water.
All it would take is someone who knows nothing to buy one, rip it to MP3 and then post it here saying it was from a CD but it's really all lossy-sourced.
Eventually, it'll muddy up the original leaks most people here knowing nothing and don't care so the thread for the lossy transcode will still get a lot of "thanks" and any re-ups will most likely be the lossy transcode and the originals lost forever.

I get the feeling we ain't seen nothing yet. The Dragon Queen arrives with her army and navy, the Sand Snakes come up from the South and then there's the Undead Army descending from the North. And, of course, Queen Cersi and her zombified Knights of the Franken-Mountain.

Westeros is basically fucked from all angles.
Except Daenerys is the only one to bring good to Westeros. She shouldn't be a threat to Westeros, unless she loses control over the Dothraki and the Greyjoy family.
Two plundering clans won't be easy to keep tame for long. That's the real threat.
The dragons obey her and won't attack Westeros but just the bad people she wants dead who threaten Westeros.
She has the good will of John Snow but is much better as a long-term warrior and commander.
Snow is just a temprary battlefield agent. His death is proof he's only good for one thing: battle.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. Sonic always should have a simple story. Anytime they try to complicate it, it never really works. The Adventure suffers from either overly exaggerating something too simplistic or is taking itself too seriously for something about a hedgehog and an egg. Heroes did right by telling something simple and straight forward. Shadow was just too hilarious in how serious it was trying to be, while making a lot off things moot by the end of it. Should I even say anything about 06? Unleashed was okay, but it still had a bit too much. Colors was simply unfunny with no substance. Generations is disappointingly nothing. Lost World had the weird issue that it tried being more serious, let tried being even more humorous? All in all, it's a mess.

Let me ask you this: What the hell is so epic about a hedgehog fighting a man that looks like an egg? Sonic is supposed to represent a 90s attitude request version of Mario. The Classic and Adventure / Heroes series captured this very well. The music is at it's best when there's variety. The only reason they've done orchestral pieces is because it became popular in video games, as opposed to it fit the character. While there was epic music for the whole series, orchestral really became used for the modern games. Generations did do an excellent blend though

Each song is supposed to be indicative of each character. The only one that really doesn't make sense is My Sweet Passion, since they put in random musings of girl that simply couldn't ever be real. The rest are fine, if definitely sounding translated. Open Your Heart is indeed the best in that regards

DOTM rocks. I love the digger bot. That's mah digger! He's got the best sound design. I love his howls.
AoE needs to be trimmed down. Heavy pedophile vibe. I mean who spends the time to look up laws for every state just go there and screw the most underage chick?
That's a lot of effort to make sure they're just hitting puberty.
AoE is good for action (not underage action, sickos). Great for sound.
It's a Dolby Atmos mix. Downmixed to play back on 5.1, you can still hear the difference in the mix. It's superb.
The IMAX bluray is only on the 3D disc. So you need to play the 3D and hope the bluray player doesn't stop it complaining there's no 3D TV.
Some players will play only the 2D data (left-eye/AVC stream).
On computer, it will always play 2D with no problems. Unless you play in a 3D player, then you need to know what you're doing because 3D on PC is different.
Shit players like Cyberlink will always be garbage players and others.
MPC-HC is the only player one needs.
And since it's 3D, there's a lot of black bars on the left side to create a 3D parallax to better view it in 3D. Bigger black bars mean more depth.

That's kind of your opinion though. They added orchestra music because they felt like it; and that it fit the movie-like cutscenes.
By that logic, you must hate Classic Sonic. Part of the reason I'm opposed to it is because they've never really been successful at it once the 3D age hit. Sonic 3K managed to have a decent story through it's visuals alone, which made it the most appealing. Heroes and Unleashed got pretty close, especially since they felt like grand adventures that traveled to many different places. Now that's the kind of story I like to see Sonic in. I admit Colors had it's moments, but was ultimately pretty kiddish affair in the end. You have to admit Generations and Lost World were poor though, especially when the former could've done so much more. I have my idea for a story, but it would be strange for the series.
I admit: I was overly exaggerating about the orchestral music. Just about everything has orchestral music. Without it, a good chunk of this forum would be empty. I like the Sonic series approach to it, in that there are only few pieces that are orchestrated and show up in places that are needed. I do like orchestral music in Sonic, but it's only really a chunk in the whole soundtrack, so I treat it as such.
Lastly, I was gonna write that the only reason Sonic did it was because Mario Galaxy did it, but then I realized Sonic 06 came out before that, so it's silly of me to say that.
PonyoBellanote
06-28-2016, 07:43 PM
No, I don't hate Classic Sonic, I just simply gave my mind about what I like in a Sonic game, story wise. I do not like something that is way too simple and cheesy and happens just because. A Mario-like story where Hey, Eggman did a thing, go beat him and just pass the levels. Sonic has more to it, in my opinion.
Also, Unleashed and Lost World are the only games to have fully orchestral symphonic songs and it's mostly just for initial cutscenes. The rest of songs just use live music but not live orchestra full performance. I think we're both exagerating, these two games we quote don't have that MUCH orchestra powerness.

I knew it was going to be Arya Stark as soon as Frey said "you're not one of mine".
It really hurt to hear everyone chant "King of the North". Brought back memories when Rob Stark was a sensible Stark (before he killed his family name over a woman).
John Snow can screw anyone now. And he's the heir to throne for Baratheon. Gendry also, but he probably won't want it.
OR John Snow will give up the rights to the throne to stay in Winterfell with his family, meet someone, create a new bloodline.
Daenarys will marry Gendry.
Little Finger will get his. He's posing a threat everyone will address.
The Sand Snakes will cease once they see Mother of Dragons intends to rule justly over men.
House Tyrell will only go as far killing the people they need to.

He must have different blood or some sort of potion in his veins to make him a purple monster.

My thing with it is that story wise, that's exactly how it started: a Mario clone where you don't rescue princesses. And the thing is is that that's basically every Sonic story: Sonic has to beat Eggman because he did a supposedly threatening thing. It's how it's done that makes it different. SA2 had the luxury of bringing Shadow and Rogue, which did try to shake things up (and worked, considering they became main stays). It all just really depends on taste, which we stand on different ends.
I guess my comment about Mario Galaxy doing it first does stand then.
