Well, you're watching a movie from 1960 and how many times has that plot been used and re-used? The Magnificent Seven is a remake of The Seven Samurai and Kurosawa freely admitted he borrowed elements from American Westerns. So the films are examples of cultural cross pollination.

For my money M7 has some of the best one liners in cinematic history.

We're not referring to how well it's aged here. We're referring to how it's been influential to the point that every aspect has been copied essentially.

If you say it's nothing new, then chances are you've seen the many films that have followed suit, which can ruin revisiting a classic at points.

Too bad it's a re-recording and not Jarre himself.

I completely agree with you, nothing beats the original recording by the composer him/herself.
All of the re-recordings by Taldlow (Prague) and others are such a good way to present a new experience in performance and listening like the original.

I still prefer Max Steiner's King Kong original recording than the new re-recording by The National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Too bad it's a re-recording and not Jarre himself.

Too bad?! I'd agree from the standpoint that there's enough re-recordings of Lawrence of Arabia to be cause of one's confusion, but I was fortunate enough to discover that Tadlow is the way to go for many re-recordings. El Cid is also exceptional in virtually every facet, by that mention it contains music that never made it to the film. I think it turned out the way Rzsa would've wanted it to, in structure, orchestration, performance, etc. It's excellent.

Back to Lawrence: in my eyes, this is the best way a re-recording for this film's score would go, from comparison between this and the original version, sure as hell they are faithful to Maurice Jarre's original intentions, as shown by the original. In fact, I'm sure, had Jarre not been ill during the supposed production of this project, they'd have had him conduct. But what we received in the release is the complete score, so well done, that I tend to find myself drawn to and enjoying it more, because of it's power of modern recording and production quality, something you didn't get with the original recording. While I do appreciate the original for it's originality and timeless nature, because we all know there is always something about the original (recording), I think Tadlow's re-recording proves fully-satisfactory, as good as this score will ever sound, at least in this day in age.

gururu
09-26-2016, 02:29 AM
While there is a good deal to praise about Tadlow's El Cid, it's muddy organ is not one of them. Listen to the difference on the Sedares or even Rozsa's own recordings where the organ properly enunciates above the orchestra.

I love the first season. I'm surprisingly excited about rewatching it again. It was so good and just got better. I really, really hope S04 picks up and improves on the last half of S03.

Also, Iain De Caestecker (aka Fitz) looks so young!! He's seriously grown up since the first season.

Watch anything Yul Brynner, the guy was amazing. Westworld and the Magnificent Seven are his top films for me. The King And I is highly recommended as well.
Sequels of The Magnificent Seven (=Return of the Seven) and Westworld (= Futureworld) are also must see, if just to complete the storyline.

First time I saw his face on the TV I was stunned. That look on his face, his stare... that guy is the epitome of cool!
Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Tom Hardy, ... people like that just ooze cool (not comparing their acting chops here).

Clinton, Trump, both are major pieces of shit, and no matter who wins, you guys are completely fucked. And the world, too, because they're highly cancerous and anything the US does, the whole world gets affected. Trump is a major piece of shit which represents what America truly is, stubborn, privileged, prideful.. he'll do nothing good, and he's not fit for presidency, but the other choice, Hilary, is just the same, but even worse, because Hilary is a FAKE, she looks the best of them but because SHE actually fakes it all, just to try to get votes, she's a liar, she's a scumbag, I wouldn't trust your country in any of these two; both are the same, corporate cock suckers, and with Hilary you'd just see a raise of extreme PC worse than we already are.

Good luck. You'll need it. Politics in my opinion are nothing but bullshit. It's a proven fact, given how it's going here and everywhere, the same fate. Horrible candidates for all countries, no good choices. And it never wins what people choice, but what the high up decides.

Just finished Captain America Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse.

Love them both.
Fucking awesome.
Good ending to the First Class trilogy if no one returns.

Jean Grey didn't have any parts in it. They wrote it mostly for the veteran actors.
Real exception is Nightcrawler. He was great.
Loved Jennifer Lawrence.
Loved Michael Fassbender even more.

Apocalypse felt like a small movie in comparison.
Mostly a gathering movie. Good guys gather for an hour and a half, bad guys gather.

Civil War absolutely confirms how much I hate Tony Stark.
Team Rogers all the way. From the start.

Tom Holland does a great younger Underoos.
Thank god no more origin story. I hope to god Homecoming doesn't include any origin.

Going to watch Dawn of Justice again.

Civil War absolutely confirms how much I hate Tony Stark.
Team Rogers all the way. From the start.

Nailed it. RDJ does a great job with that character, otherwise we wouldn't hate him so much, so kudos to him.
But yes, definitely yes; Stark is the asshat and Rogers is the boyscout good guy we all root for.

Also saw Apocalypse last week. Despite all the criticism I love how they handled Apocalypse. Great story, great bookend for the trilogy.
Jumped in my seat when I saw Havok. Silly way to write him off, I was already imagining how he could be used in the last battle.
Thought it was really cool how Jean Grey tapped into her powers but felt it was lazy ass writing how she merely brushed it off afterward.
Famke Janssen's version succumbed to it so -even in an alternate timeline- it makes no sense for a younger Jean to just shrug it off and keep going.
There wasn't even the slightest hint of the Phoenix Force still being present afterward, or trying to writhe its way to the surface of her conciousness.
Oh well, great film. That's all I hoped for. Also LOVED how they cameo'd Wolverine into this. He finally got to go berserk and it was orgasmic :D Just like in the PS3 video game :D

Stark has always been an ass. In Iron Man 2 he spent his (supposed) final days screwing around and ruining his friendships.

Good grief, dude. Give the man a break! Did you even read the short article I posted the link to? Have you ever thought about what Tony's character has had to go through on a physical, emotional and mental level? Even after just the events of the first IM - to act like nothing's happened is beyond unrealistic. The poor chap just gets more and more heavy-duty stressful crap piled onto him movie after movie. How would you react? The problem is, no one knows how to be considerate, sympathetic or emphatic anymore. These days, the phrase "stepping into someone else's shoes" is sadly unheard of.

Re Tony's arc in IM2 specifically, have you never heard of someone having a breakdown and getting drawn down the slippery slope of alcohol and drugs before? I mean c'mon, that's almost RDJ's life in a nutshell. It happens to real people and for it not to happen to characters in movies like this would just be plain unrealistic. But yet when it does happen, people immediately jump on the characters and accuse them of being an ass, implying they should've done better.

To me, the character of Tony Stark is a breath of fresh air - he's the most genuine, honest portrayal of a normal guy in these films so far. He's a fallible human being just like the next guy and has to live and cope with the dire consequences of his foolish choices and mistakes, that have resulted in mass destruction and death. And that's not even going into his personal life. Civil War is perhaps the best he's been since the first Iron Man - I've not seen him more sincere, trying his hardest to do what's right, trying to get things right for once and make the correct decisions, trying to save his friends and keep together what little recognisable order there is in his life with The Avengers.

Meanwhile, Cap's being a stubborn ass, albeit for admirable reasons, doing anything and everything, going against anyone and anything in his way, to save his brainwashed best buddy. Both parties are doing what they believe to be right, but I see Tony as at least trying to do what's best for all involved not just himself, unlike Cap. Tony knows that he can do whatever he likes regardless of what the government does with the Sokovia Accords, but he's showing willing to co-operate, which is a massive step in his character development and maturity, especially compared to IM2.

So please, give him a break and think of him as a human. Not some Superman-type god, like Captain America, "God's righteous man", who can do no wrong.

Fair enough. I imagine you probably prefer Man of Steel to Christopher Reeve though!
No aspect of what Tony does is appealing to me. He's charismatic but he's chronically in the wrong constantly in my eyes. He doesn't even commit to the Sokovia Accords which he himself shoved down everyone's throats.

If we're going for "most genuine, honest portrayal of a normal guy", I'd go more with Hawkeye. He trusts his gut more than his guilt.

Read it and be realistic.

He's always an egomaniac. He always does things wrong the first time and then spends the rest of his movies trying to fix his mistakes.
The only way he can ever do good is by doing completely wrong and causing so many people's their lives first.
Although Banner had some part to play in creating Ultron, it's always Stark to be the catalyst.

I'm glad Pepper left him. It doesn't matter that Tony's father was able to work things out with his wife.
But I'm sure they didn't nearly go through as much as Tony is going with Pepper.

The start of Civil War, he sounds like a politician.
Of course, it took him forever to realize what's going on. Even when told there are other Winter Soldiers out there. Which are a bigger threat than their shaky friendships.
He was really the one responsible for Rhodes. But Rhodes is the bigger man and forgave Tony for it. Tony assumed no responsibility because he's selfish.

He's just a shit.

You're just as biased against Captain America.
So go fuck yourself if you don't like that we don't like Tony Stark.

Iron Man is cool. But he can't separate himself from Tony Stark.
That's fucked up and pathological.

Bruce Wayne can at least differeniate himself from Batman.

Just finished the Warcraft movie.
Exhilirating! The action is well placed and very solid. They even make horses crashing seem like Fast & The Furious car crashes. That's how big the action is.

Nice set up for a trilogy or whatever they have planned.
Great story, especially if you're familiar with some names.
Though I've never read any of the books and don't remember the first 2 games.

The music suits the movie. Great fantasy pieces but really fit with the movie the best.

It was really cool to see some of the regular places in the movie. Even though it's mostly CG, it's more advanced CG than the game.

Character development is really nice. They've managed to move at a fast pace and keep the story compelling.

Surprised for a game-turned-movie, it has such a high rating at IMDb, out of 138K votes.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0803096

I see it also got a new name.
The titles in the movie itself don't reference it as "The Beginning".
The Begining was added later to everything that's text-based. Posters and everything still uses just plain Warcraft.

I'd support this movie and actually buy it.
Wish I went to the theaters for it.

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed Warcraft and thought it was a more credible production than the other big tent offerings this year. The score, however, is just more generic Djawadi. The film could have really used a more evocative score… rather than the mouldy RCP leftovers it ended up with.

Very, incredibly, unmistakably Djawadi, but his music is pretty awesome most of the time so that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've wanted to see the movie for a while know. I know one of the other JLI students here has a BR rip which they were watching on the massive HD TV in the lounge a couple weeks back. I might make a few friendly inquiries. ;)

NO! His scores will always take precedent over Mick's score, no matter how badass it is. The original DOOM music remains timeless and classic, always will it.

I don't favour one artist over the other. Every DOOM game has been made amazing by the fantastic score each composer has given it. I'm simply listening to Mick's right now because I feel like it. :P

Why Hello there, Mr. Empathy. Where have you been all these months ?

Right here, calling bullshit on the self involved, self pitying, self centered with their self created problems, real or imaginary.

I call bullshit on Rokusho because if he's a high functioning sociopath and BTW for someone who says he's been "professionally diagnosed," he should know the clinical term is "antisocial personality disorder." The term "sociopath" is a layman's term and does not appear in the DSM-III or DSM-IV.

A clinical hallmark of someone with ASPD is shallow emotional depth so a true "sociopath" wouldn't have such warm and fuzzies about his childhood. Especially with a co-diagnosis of Aspergers. People with Aspergers have a difficult time making friends and they suck in social interactions. Not the life of party. So again, a childhood spent frolicking with friends, doubtful.

However, people with ASPD are very good at manipulating, lying, and conning others to get what they want. They have little remorse for the damage they inflict on people because they see them as targets.

So, if Rokusho is really a "sociopath" what he wrote is probably a load of crap to engender your sympathy.

P.S. I went to college as well. Worked 2 -3 jobs will taking a full load of courses. Somedays felt like shit. You know what, you nut up, shut up, get up and go get the job done because if you can't handle college, the real world will kick your ass around the clock.

I agree fully, I just have the slight preference of Bobby Prince's music for the first two games over Mick Gordon's because of its original and timeless essence - there's that word again, timeless.

You're goddamn fucking right. :p It's amazing how many artists' songs may have inspired that first stage music, though there's been some controversy as to exactly which song, and the same to many other of the similar songs throughout this game and Hell on Earth. I think At Doom's Gate was probably inspired by a combination of songs, and, once again, the same could be said for a couple of the other stage music.

That's a pretty cool track. I see that it's a remix of sorts of an original track from Rise of the Triad? I've never heard of that game, which brought me to look it up, and I read that it was a supposed sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, how interesting!

Yeah, it uses a heavily modified Wolfenstein Engine, Game was pretty obscure, but a lot of Fun.

Got a Remake in 2013 (Which i hate) with reinterpreted Music by Andrew Hulshult (Which i love).

I got the Album sitting on my MEGA, but i am too lazy to make Threads lately...

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed Warcraft and thought it was a more credible production than the other big tent offerings this year. The score, however, is just more generic Djawadi. The film could have really used a more evocative score rather than the mouldy RCP leftovers it ended up with.

Uwe Bowell approached to direct the movie but Blizzard flatout told him they don't want him anywhere naer it.
And it was going to be only about the Alliance at first.
But the director changed the script to include the Horde to make it valid for both factions.

Concluded Luke Cage 101. Let's see…

Stilted direction. Graceless camerawork. Sluggish editing.

But then…

There's a music score for a Marvel production with at least some personality, though it's still deployed to piss poor dramatic effect. There's Alfre Woodard. I'll watch anything with Alfre in it. And there's Mike Colter, whose really easy on the eyes.

Hope it gets better.

I have not watched any of those, no. Surely something made primarily to advertise the shows should be just as good as the shows?? I mean that really was terrible. Utterly cheesy. If the shows aren't like that, why the heck make an ad like that?? I ain't dissing the shows if they're genuinely good, but you can't deny that ad was dull as dishwater.

I've been bored by AoS a little during Season 2 and throughout the second half of Season 3. And the first episode of Season 4. But the second episode? Just finished watching. It was good. They up'd the stakes and by golly have they up'd the darkness level. They weren't kidding about making the most of the later time slot. It's dark.

I'm with Sulley. All those DC TV shows have really poor writing and even worse CGI.
The CGI I can forgive, since I know it's expensive. But the writing is laughably bad sometimes.

Arrow S4 was so bad that the 'Arrow' subreddit changed to become Daredevil themed for a while.
