I was pretty much thinking of you of one of the many reasons I uploaded. It certainly has a liiiiittle Ice Age vibe in some parts since it's by the same composer, but don't take me literally, it's fine, but not as good as Ice Age. Still, the score is pretty good. Aaand yes, never see the movie. Don't torture yourself like that. There are worse movies. But this is just.. no. Nope.
I can definitely hear the little Ice Age vibes, and also some chipmunk vibes, too...
Haha, I won't bother watching it, don't worry. I just hope that maybe someone can make a decent movie of it one day, like Horton or The Lorax. But then Powell will probably score it. Not that I'd mind that!

Please don't tell me you watched the ending of Interstellar before seeing the full film. And it's also a movie that you have to watch in one sitting.
I see you are currently out of touch with Sulley's steadily growing movie checklist.
Also, surely you must know by now that DAK and I are brothers in obsessive perfectionism, which means I wouldn't be found dead watching the ending of a movie by itself before I saw the entire movie, in one sitting. I'm the kind of person that has to set up as much of a cinematic experience in my living room as possible before settling down to watch a movie, and God forbid that anyone watching with me talks/makes noises during the film.
I'll have you know that I watched Interstellar in one sitting with the best possible sound quality, turned up as loud as my ears could bear. And boy was it a jaw-dropping experience. I can't imagine how awesome it would have been to see it in IMAX. I can only hope a cinema somewhere re-shows it sometime. I'll be the first to buy a ticket.

Dear god, how the mighty have fallen. And I was one of the very few people who didn't hate Cloud Atlas. I mean these two made The Matrix (and its two unfortunate sequels), V for Vendetta (how awesome was that one!) among others. Mila Kunis has never been a particularly great actress, but this is the first time that I really hate her in something. The writing/directing let the rest of them down. Even though the casting was one of it's strong suits. The movie summed up is basically cringeworthy throughout. The VFX work and the music is exemplary but this wasn't a tech demo or an instrumental album.

Oh! I thought you'd seen it. It's nowhere near as lovable as the original three shorts. Overall, it is a good film, with some funny moments, great action pieces, and stunning animation, but it's just missing the charm of the originals. Also, the humour is more crude, which is disappointing.

Listening to Man of Steel whilst cleaning my monster teeth after a very long day. Got up at 6:00am, left the house at about 8am, arrived at about 10am, warmed up and practiced from about 10:30 - 11am when I was called in to audition. I think it went quite well. It certainly could have gone a lot worse, put it that way. Hopefully I'll hear in the next couple of days whether I've got a scholarship. After lunch and a presentation by the music department, headed into town for a little look round the secondhand shops (didn't find anything though), then headed back home, stopping on the way to attend my sister's end-of-year recital not too far from where Mr Gold resides I believe, then ate a packed dinner in an underground car park, had a short visit to the supermarket above, then headed home. Then took the neighbours' dog out for a crazy walk/run at 9:04pm. Got back at exactly 9:45pm, just in time to catch my other sister on the phone. Then my best friend called and we had a long chat. Arranged to go down and see him tomorrow and help with his landscaping construction, diggers and all. Then maybe a dip in his pool afterwards. So I'm now getting ready for bed...

Listening to Interstellar whilst getting ready for bed again after another crazy day. I got to drive a full-size dumper truck which was flippin awesome. Also got to jump in a pool for ten minutes. Then it was rushing back, this time to my sister's boyfriend's final degree recital. Then we were invited out for dinner at a lovely sea food restaurant. Haven't eaten in a restaurant for ages. A lovely treat. Muscles, haddock, and stem ginger ice cream.

Rewatching Series 2 of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror. Series (UK equivalent of seasons) are short ie. 3 x 45-60 min. but it's seriously engaging and thought-provoking material presented in anthology format with a different cast and story for every episode. It deals with unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Comes highly recommended. If it sounds interesting but you aren't sure of it, watch Series 2, Episode 1: "Be Right Back". Personal favourite is Series 1, Episode 3: "The Entire History of You".

Watched 2001 tonight with my uncle and parents. Interstellar any day. Sorry Ponyo!
It was far too slow moving. Far too little substance. Far too much warbling choirs crescendoing far louder and more obnoxiously than Hans' organ. And more.
I guess it was a masterpiece in its day for the effects and concepts, but as a narratively interesting, engaging story, Interstellar soars while 2001 falls flat.
Also, Interstellar is a deeper film. Not only does it take many of the same crazy concepts of relativity, interstellar travel, and the future, but it adds an extra dimension - that of real emotional depth - which 2001 utterly lacks.
Also, it's more scientific in that it actually takes the time to explain the theories and concepts behind it so that you can understand and appreciate them, rather than just throwing stuff at the audience with not so much as a word of explanation so that you are constantly wondering what the heck is going on and what the heck it all means. By which time you have ceased to care because there are no real characters to care about so it really doesn't matter anymore.

Granted there is a subjective nature to opinion, the world is a complexity of postulates, incontestable truths and that "Kubrick's 2001 is a timeless masterpiece" is a statement of fact. You didn't comment on "American Beauty" nor on "Magnolia"; you essentially disparaged art. Honestly... I believe you would've been better off saying nothing. Everything you wrote isn't just incorrect but painfully demented, what I am certain is the result of years of a pathetically solipsistic tv education you gifted yourself. Turn your eyes from that black mirror and read real literature. It doesn't matter who nor does it matter from when (I strongly recommend starting with William S. Burroughs), but at least have the decency to acquaint yourself with the real colors of the world before you start passing judgment on things so vibrant that you can't help but see as opaque. I respect a person's right to express their own opinion, and to some degree I respect idiocy, but what I do not respect is an idiot pretending to be a king pretending to be a philosopher.
I'm writing this out of empathy, with the same benevolent purpose of any cautionary tale. There are people, way worse than me, in the world, out there in the real world, who feed on those like you. They won't just belittle you there and then, make you feel insignificant to the point of involuntary urination or impotence the next time you try to fuck - they will never give you the decency of even just a passing glance, acknowledging you as an equal, for as long as they will interact with you. It won't be just them, it will be the whole world, or at least as much of it as you know, because they're members of Mensa or Intertel or (god forbid) Prometheus, and they can do that to you. I, for one, will never be able to read your posts in the same light again - as if you care, nor will or should you ever as you'll never know who I am. But it's a wholly different story when that petrifying look comes from the people you care about and trust. Whether you're a man of exceptional but clouded sight or an idiot, never broadcast empty words nostalgic for the slightest semblance of an original idea. Think.

----
Alex Chaplin feels merely making the comparisons of 2001 and Interstellar is the first mistake. :notgood:
...but Alex Chaplin will indulge in this.
From the words of Nolan himself "...there is only one 2001. So you don’t want to get too near to that."
He's even gone on to say his own work is an embarrassment compared to Kubrick's.
Alex Chaplin feels 2001 is far more deeper than Interstellar even attempts to be (as Nolan himself even admitted). Nolan's piece, as Alex Chaplin said before, is a what you see is what you get piece.
2001 rewards with multiple viewings and asks for your thoughts and ideas to simmer for long after the film is over so you can further explore it's multiple themes and questions it asks and not just "how cool was that".
In short, Interstellar is really great fluffy popcorn.

@emptymetaljacket - Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure whether or not to appreciate them, but I think you're trying to help. So...
The only thing I will say in response is that I have not had a TV education in the slightest. I am probably the least TV-literate civilian in Monstropolis. I have read some fantastic literature (Dickens, Tolkein, etc), and I truly appreciate great pieces of art. I never said 2001 was not art - it very much is, and is an astounding achievement. Visually it was brilliant. But I personally prefer films with more of a story and more human emotions and relations. To me, 2001 was fantastic visually and artistically, but empty of human emotion and a detailed story. Not everything people hype is as good as they say it is. I think a lot of people read too much into things a lot of the time.

I could wake up to someone whispering my name. I'm the lightest sleeper in the world. A fart in the next room and I'm up.
I'm a night owl, I'm always up this late - especially when I don't have to work the next day.

I'm the opposite! Not much can wake me up once I'm gone. I remember one time many years ago when my sisters and I were very young, my mum organised a "WWII" experience week. For one week we ate only food folks would have eaten back then (SPAM, powdered egg, the lot) and wore 40's style clothes, and we even had bombing raids. Our mum would rush in to our bedroom during the night and rush us out to a tent in the back garden (our bomb shelter) and then proceed to shake and rattle the tent. But on one occasion, I simply wouldn't wake up. Apparently I continued to sleep with her yelling my name down my ear.
Perhaps I should sleep in a chair perched on the edge of a bathtub?

Trust me, you're housemate/sibling/parent/person-who-will-wake-you will be eternally grateful that you will have granted them the opportunity to basically prank you every day.
Plus before going to sleep just mix some salts and stuff in the water and when you wake up splashing in the tub like an insane gorilla, you will have unlocked INSTANT BATH MODE!

Just finished It Follows. A tiny bit creepy, overall it was overrated. I swear I have such high expectations for films. It's not fair :/
I agree with DAK. My thoughts, such as they are, on the film.
The Short Version: It Follows is a film that takes the Scooby Doo Gang, gives them John Carpenter treatment and then takes the audience on a tour of the teenage wasteland that resides in the shell of Detroit. While a very polished film, the lack of interesting and dynamic characters undercuts the tension.
The Long Version: this review will contain spoilers so if you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading.
Now.
The Good: It Follows is a highly professional movie. Director David Robert Mitchell is obviously a fan of John Carpenter’s Halloween, which serves as a template for It Follows. Like Carpenter, Mitchell favors long takes and tracking shots, uses darkest suburbia as a backdrop and sets it all to an excellent synth score. No shaky cam, no ADD editing, Mitchell knows when to move his camera and when not to and lets his actors, well act.
And his cast is spot on and believable as teens solo-navigating the final years between childhood and adulthood. (There are almost no adults in this film. When they appear it is only briefly.) Maika Monroe as Jay, the girl pursued by the entity, is particularly good making her character very real.
However, that does not mean her character is really interesting.
The Bad: Mitchell learned a lot about movie making from Carpenter but one aspect he neglected: creating characters you care about. Jay and her friends are as flat as day old beer.
In Halloween the characters of Laurie, Annie and Lynda are interesting and dynamic and thanks to the talents of Curtis, Loomis and Soles, respectively, become people of flesh and blood - particularly blood – instead of horror films archetypes: the good girl, the smart ass, the sex bomb.
That vitality of character is missing in It Follows. Everyone acts as though they’ve just awoken from anesthesia. There is a lack of urgency in whatever these kids do; they sit instead of commit. (Mostly watching old movies on old TV sets, playing Old Maid and waiting for the inevitable to arrive.)
For example, after learning It can be hurt and has no magic powers - a strong door can stop it or at least slow it down – our meddling kids do little with that information other than Jay learning to use a revolver and their traveling to a remote beach house. (Yes, they go to a Cabin in the Woods.) Any advantage that tactical decision confers is undermined with their total lack of situational awareness, which allows It to get Its hands on Jay.
No one asks some obvious questions: can you trap or imprison It and if you do can It escape? Is Its supply of shapes endless? How did Hugh, who passed the curse to Jay, learn the rules by which It operates? (Hugh received the curse from a one-night stand, a woman he never saw again.) Where then did he get his information?
And when the Scooby Gang comes up with a “plan,” really more of a poorly thought out notion, - lure It into a large swimming pool – the plan fails, in part because they didn’t know or read the UL warning present on electronic devices - that they shut off when they come in contact with water, thanks to Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters. (Also fresh water is a relatively poor conductor of electricity.)
It’s bad writing when in order to advance a movie you make your characters stupid, un-inquisitive or un-motived. The director described his protagonists' plan as dumb. (I’d like to think most people reading this forum would turn over every rock trying to find a way to defeat It and failing that throw every rock they can find to kill It.)
It Follows has many of the deficiencies of other horror films: paper thin characterizations, the film's failure to follow the "rules" it establishes, characters behaving stupidly. Deficiencies critics ignored. Strange how some films gain a type of state of grace that renders them immune to criticism.
Mitchell has Carpenter’s technical talent, but not his way of creating interesting characters. (There’s no Laurie, or Loomis or Snake or Maggie or MacReady in this film.)
The Ugly: The collapse of Detroit. Great back drops for a film, sad to see once beautiful homes and neighborhoods decay.
The Wrap: It Follows is not the game changer critics would have you believe. However, if you keep your expectations in check and like your films full of dread instead of red, It Follows delivers. Plus the soundtrack is pitch perfect.

Episode 9 of GoT. A death I feared would happen, happened. Stannis and his witch wench really need to die and hopefully at the point of Ser Davos's sword. Or Drogon's flames. Either one. As long as it is horrible and painful.

Everybody dies.
Or in GoT's case, everyone you really like and want to see more of, is brutally and horrifyingly slaughtered (or tortured) so that you get so miserable that you stop watching it and promise never to return to the antagonizing world of Westeros. But then the next episode comes out, \_(ツ)_/

I didn't think it was bad at all. It made me purchase the soundtrack on iTunes. The soundtrack is great, every track. And it would definitely be a movie I'd pick up on Blu-ray. I usually enjoy every film in some way or another when I watch it, but this is one that stood out, for me at least. I liked it more than It Follows, but sometimes I get distracted while watching the film, so I might have missed some crucial stuff. I don't know.

Downloading Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
You see, this entire week, my mother leaves to work in the afternoons, and so then I am using those afternoon for movies! Yesterday it was Emperor's New Groove, and today's the next feature that followed the next year, ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE. I really wanted to see this one for a while and look forward to it. The screenies I saw look like the picture has awesome HD quality, but again, due to time and space issues, I have to go by the 7 GB 720p rip, which still offers some HD to it.
I'm gonna enjoy this and I should be buying popcorn for these afternoons.
I've gone to the theater, bought popcorn and left before. Lol. The looks on their faces are priceless.

If it's about the food in the theater, I hardly ever buy food in it, it's too expensive. I buy a bag of cheetos, a bottle of water outside in the nearest market. Only once I bought a bag of popcorn in the movie theater because I felt like it. It was with HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2. I mean I should get popcorn to watch the movies these afternoons, because I'm eating a bag of peanuts while watching the movies, lol.
