Super enjoyable CD in my opinion. If you haven't heard this yet... what are you waiting for? It's excellent.
Also, the CUE Tools DB Plugin didn't take, for reasons unknown. Accuraterip checks out though.

Because some filehosts come up with some strange rules regarding archive files in particular, I removed the file extension from the archive so that it won't fall under any such restrictions. To use the file easily, simply add .rar to the end of the filename. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but I thought it was better than being limited in the future.

Yeah, you sure did some "cleanup", deleting my later posts, which were in no way continuing the hoopla or contributing to the "mess".

Maybe ease up on the deleting next time, will ya? Take aim at the people that started the fire first, and put out the lesser flames after, possibly without casualties.

Anyway, my request still stands: X-Blades Official Soundtrack (http://vgmdb.net/album/11490).

I have a simple question about offsets that I'm hoping someone knowledgeable on the subject can clear up for me (preferably someone with years of CD ripping experience).

So reading about the subject, I understand that offsets are the points on the data stream where many disc drives begin to read the disc's data, hence why EAC not only identifies the disc drive in their logs, but also has the feature of offset correction. In pursuing the most accurate rips possible, that would mean making rips with no offsets or offset corrections? Some rips when verified against the accurip DB shows that they contain offsets, does that mean that the rip isn't accurate? If so, how does Cuetool's "fix offset" option actually "fix" the offset? Considering that such rips were read and extracted with offsets written into the data...

I'd appreciate an expert's insight on clearing this up for me.

P.S
I've yet to actually look at the rip that I quoted, so my questions aren't a response to the quality of this Creid rip. Just a question that's being bothering me since I got into the lossless audio game.

SimonJXZ
05-28-2013, 01:08 AM
That's... actually not such a simple question :) It's a little hard to explain without being overly wordy or technical, but I'll do my best to answer your question anyway.

To start, all disc drives have a read offset and a write offset, even if that offset is theoretically 0. Most people think that the only information they need in order to extract all the audio data from a CD is their drive's read offset. This isn't true; they also need to take into account the offset of the drive that wrote it (in this case, the write offset of the equipment the record label used).

Here's an example. Say I have a source audio file that I want to burn onto a CD. The source file has 100 silent samples in the beginning (before the first non-silent sample, where the sound essentially "begins") and 100 silent samples at the end (after the last non-silent sample, where the sound essentially "ends"). If I perfectly burn it and then perfectly rip it back to file from the burned CD, then the file I ripped from the burned CD will have 100 silent samples in the beginning and the end, just like the original source file. Ultimately, that's what we want, right? To rip in a way that perfectly matches the source material.

Well, that's easy to do when I'm the one that wrote the CD and know what offset my drive wrote at. In the case of my drive, I use a Plextor PX-716A, as mentioned. My write offset is -30 and my read offset is +30 (according to Accuraterip, anyway). So I know I'm burning at -30, and therefore I know I need to rip at +30. The problem arises when you obtain any CD from any other source, because you won't know what write offset they used. Let's say that same source audio was burned at -80 using the Plextor. While that is the wrong offset, I can still produce a rip that matches the original source audio by ripping at +80, rather than +30.

To put into perspective why all this is important: you won't always encounter CDs that have silent samples at the beginning/end of the CD. Sometimes you will encounter CDs that have non-silent audio data extending all the way to the "end" of the CD, past the point of your offset. To use my drive as an example again, I've had to adjust my offset to +44 numerous times in order to catch all the samples of a CD. It is a fairly common offset, actually. I can name several CDs off the top of my head that use that offset. And that's just one example. Some CDs have samples at the beginning of the CD that you'd miss if you used +30, and you have to use a negative offset to catch them all. This means that if you only confine yourself to the offset Accuraterip tells you to use, then you can never rip all of the audio data from some CDs. Then your rip of that CD is missing data, and we're no longer talking about lossless rips anymore, because you have quite literally lost data during the ripping process.

Did any of that make sense?

Anyway, despite all that information, the rips I submit here make use of Accuraterip technology, because I'm not sure how receptive people will be of a LOG file getting to them with a -642 offset or something similarly wacky. Then again, I've also avoided posting rips of soundtracks that would be missing samples if I didn't adjust my offset correctly, so... there you go.

ADDITIONAL INFO: This isn't to say that the Plextor doesn't really have a +30 offset. There's no true evidence as to what offset any drive has absolutely - only evidence proving what offset one drive has relative to another. It also isn't to say that whether or not you have 70 or 100 silent samples at the end of a CD matters, like my example may have suggested. The example was only to illustrate (even if in a roundabout way) that not adjusting your read offset to properly account for the write offset becomes a problem in the case of missing non-silent samples, in which case you've lost audio data, however inaudible.

---------- Post added at 05:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:24 PM ----------

Aah, I'll double-post to say this, since it's important:

The above post is only intended to educate about offsets and provide fact. It is not intended to persuade anyone to rip a certain way, or call one way "right" and all other ways "wrong". I'm simply presenting the information that only using one read offset will cause you to miss audio data when ripping many CDs. If you don't care about that and you want the perks of Accuraterip instead, that's fine. That's your prerogative and you're entitled to it. I'm just answering a question by presenting as many facts about the ripping process as I have.

Thank you for the insight, very informative.

I have three more questions (hopefully simple).

1) How do you know if you've caught all the samples of any CD in general? Meaning how do you find out the write offset of the source disc (assuming the disc is from the record label, not a custom disc).

2) Regarding rips that you don't have the source to, such as the many uploads found on this thread, what can one do to verify the accuracy of the rip? Do accurip and EAC logs give any info as to the capture of ALL data in the rip? Since this situation means that one doesn't know the write offset of the source disc.

3) If you don't have the source disc, only a rip such as from the uploads on here, does the "fix offset" option on Cuetools do anything? No, right?

From a technical standpoint this is all quite interesting, but I'd like to know, why bother going through so much trouble? What benefit is gained from this? Not trying to be a dick, just want to know.

SimonJXZ

Zarathustra922:

1) You'd test by ripping the first and last tracks at various offsets, then analyzing the resulting WAV files. For example: I could rip at +1000 and see 956 silent samples at the end of the last track. This would mean that I exceeded the "end of the audio" by 956 samples, so I need to rip at +44. Now if I saw, say, 4000 silent samples, then I wouldn't bother correcting my offset at all because I wouldn't need to in order to catch all the samples (since how many silent samples there were at the end of the file exceeded my test offset). I don't want to go into too much detail about how it's done step-by-step in this thread though, so if you're determined to do this, send me a PM.

2) Unfortunately, neither Accuraterip nor LOG files give any conclusive "this missed samples" kind of data.

3) You guessed correctly :)

Also, I want to sort of clarify something that it probably sounds like I'm assuming I know at this point: if I have to rip at +44 to catch all the audio data, I don't know that the record label's offset is literally +44. There's no part of the Redbook specification the actually defines the starting and ending points of a CD. I just know that at +44 (or whatever offset I need to use), I catch the last non-silent sample. Theoretically, their offset could have been +9001, and there were 8957 silent samples at the end of their source material. This is the same case for any CD that has 40000-something silent samples at the end of the CD if I rip at +30; sure, I exceeded the "end of the audio" by 40000-something samples, but I'm not going to set my offset back 40000-something samples just to stop right on the last non-silent sample, because it doesn't matter. All that matters is that you caught all the samples.

On that note, talking about what "matters" leads me to jlaidler's question: it doesn't "matter" at all if you don't care, and many people probably don't, and that's fine. Some people enjoy knowing how to make their rips as painstakingly accurate as possible. Others are fine ripping in Burst Mode without Test & Copy, and others like MP3. It's all preference, and comes down to what you want out of your collection.

Also, I don't want to disrupt the purpose of the thread, so if a moderator wants to split this conversation into a new thread and put a link to it in this one or something, fine by me. I don't mind blabbing on about technical stuff, but I don't want it to become annoying or disruptive either.

From a technical standpoint this is all quite interesting, but I'd like to know, why bother going through so much trouble? What benefit is gained from this? Not trying to be a dick, just want to know.

My answer comes in two forms:

The TLDR version:

I want music in the highest quality possible.

OR

The detailed version:

Simply to learn how to create a 1:1 perfect copy of an audio disc and also to be able to discern whether a rip one downloads online is indeed a perfect 1:1 image.

I understand that this may be tedious to most people, but I'm of the opinion that if we don't hold lossless music to such rigorous criteria, then what are we doing uploading and using Flac, Ape, Tak, and other lossless formats, when mp3 would suffice?

The reason we're on this thread (I'm assuming) is to share music in the highest quality possible, which in most cases for the majority of the public (no access to studio master sources) means a bit-by-bit perfect copy of the official sources publically released. While the discs themselves are in fact "lossless" quality, they are susceptible to scratches, wear, and other means of degradation that physical media formats are subjected to. Which means that the discs are susceptible to data loss, hence it is no longer lossless quality. A FLAC file played once or one billion times will never degrade like an audio disc would under the same conditions.

Lossless music is therefore very important, because its future proof and doesn't require maintenance like physical discs, so in theory a 1:1 lossless image trumps the source since it can't degrade or be destroyed.

I hope that answers your question as to why I go through all this tedious work. If there's any audiophiles in here, I'm certain that they'll tell you the same thing or share similar sentiments.

By the way, just so I don't sound like some out-there radical who's spouting out foolish nonsense: most of this research is not my original research, and by that I mean that I was not the first one to do it (though I did discover it by myself). This information has existed for over a decade now. A user by the name of Pio2001, who knows way more than one human being should ever even know about DAE in general, had a lot to say on the subject. Pio2001 was a pioneer of technical DAE aspects. You can read some posts of his here (http://www.digital-inn.de/exact-audio-copy-english/4193-use-offsets.html) and here (http://www.digital-inn.de/exact-audio-copy-english/4543-determining-offset.html#post12647), for starters. He discusses everything I've discussed and probably more, and probably in greater detail.

Thanks to your advice:

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni Collection is up, and it's on Version 1.0. All completely lossless, from various CD rips.

FLAC / Personally created collection

Thread 134520

A little explanation. There was never an officially released "Umineko OST", but I managed to find pretty much every possible available CD and cobble all of the specific ingame songs that appear on that cd together into a lossless collection. The few tracks it's missing are explained in the thread, because of the unique situation. If I acquire the few songs that haven't been released, or if the artists who have never published a CD finally release a CD (some of these were released well after Umineko was actually made), I will update this collection. As of right now, it's pretty much 90+ percent complete.

This collection exists to save you the headache of downloading over 20 gigabytes of Umineko related CDs just to get that one song you heard in the game.

A little bit different of a request:

NW10102810 | Ys I&II Chronicles ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/15684)

I have this, the Ys I&II Chronicles ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK. I've had it for a while.

However, a few of the songs have noticeable mid-song audio gaps of silence which are irritating. To check if you have this rip, go to Track 16, TENDER PEOPLE, and wait seven seconds at the beginning of the song.

If there's no audio gap after waiting for that long and no noticeable skipping, you have a rip of this CD I've never seen before (everyone seems to have spread around this guy's rip with that error, and it's not just that track).

So, can anyone rip this, or has a rip without that problem?

The rip in question had the file name of [EAC](ゲームサントラ) イース Ys I&II Chronicles ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK (tta+cue+jpg). If it's this one, it's probably the rip I'm talking about.

Well, sorry to disappoint, but after 1 hour and 15 minutes of looking up composer/arranger info for tags and preparing the CD tracknames in EAC, the first and second discs of HeartGold / SoulSilver don't seem to want to rip correctly. Near the end of each CD, they start spinning up with a lot of error correction, about 8 times in each track, and EAC gets different CRCs between the test and copy passes. I didn't bother to try the third disc, but I have a feeling it would be the same thing. Not sure what the deal is, because I've never ripped these CDs before, and they're in mint condition. I'd be hard-pressed to find dust on these CDs. I have read that some CDs don't react well in certain drives, so maybe that's the case. Or, it's my drive, which would really suck.

More than the hour and 15 minutes I just spent tagging.

Anyway, my apologies again, and if anyone has this soundtrack that they can reupload, go for it.

TENDER PEOPLE is track 17 on disc 2, but anyway, I checked both tracks just to make sure, and I don't have any 7-second gaps. Mine is an APE image rip I got on Share EX2, with scans of the booklet inside, outside, and the two discs. It's CUE and no LOG. I'm going to assume that's fine and upload it here, so tell me if you *don't* want it.

the first and second discs of HeartGold / SoulSilver don't seem to want to rip correctly. Near the end of each CD, they start spinning up with a lot of error correction, about 8 times in each track, and EAC gets different CRCs between the test and copy passes.

I had this happen to me with Shin Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, though it was back before I had a PX-716A. Not saying it couldn't happen with that drive though. I just know what you're talking about. It REALLY sucks.

For the original requester: I do have a rip that AcidBeast did. LOG and CUE, Accuraterip, CUETools DB Plugin V2.1.4, etc... FLAC files tagged (Simon ;)). I'll upload it to MEGA and submit it.

AcidBeast had some problems with making a more recent rip of that HeartGold / SoulSilver soundtrack as well, using several drives even.. Here's a paste from IRC:

(AcidBeast) I ripped disc 3 of pokemon HG/SS flawlessly, however I'm not able to create a cue sheet, EAC freezes at track 96, any suggestions?
(AcidBeast) it always freezes, no matter what gap setting or interface I choose
(AcidBeast) the problem occurs when EAC checks for UPC/ISRC data
(AcidBeast) EAC is able to create a cue sheet when I disable "retrieve UPC/ISRC codes in cue sheet generation"
(Kevin04) well if it was me, I'd create it without MCN/ISRC and use another program to check for them, and if they succeed put them in the cue manually. or try a different drive in EAC
(AcidBeast) I would try to get them otherwise, as I already tried using another drive which didn't work

She also had problems with another Pokemon CD (Black2 / White2)

(AcidBeast) I can finally rip the 4th disc of pokemon black2/white2 without errors!

According to VGMDB TENDER PEOPLE is track 16 on disc 2.

And VGMdb is correct according to the booklet. So, that means you have some retagging to do, doesn't it :D Japanese guy switched tracks 16 and 17 and I just quoted that. My bad, man.

As for the Sora no Kiseki thing, dunno, I hardly use Share EX2 / Perfect Dark anymore because they're pretty dead.

AcidBeast had some problems with making a more recent rip of that HeartGold / SoulSilver soundtrack as well, using several drives even.

Wow, that soundtrack is just a bitch then. But the audio quality of her rip looks good, even if she had to skip detecting the ISRCs. By the way, there's a random ISRC in track 23 of disc 2 in her CUE sheet, but because she's using the SH-S203P instead of her good ol' Optiarc DDU1675S, the ISRC got borked (5`0000400202, which isn't a valid ISRC). Just trivia though, as the audio checks out 100% with Accuraterip and CUE Tools.

Yes indeed, the link appears to be dead, looks like it was only pretending to be alive. Well then I'll see if the soundtrack is still on one of my harddrives somewhere.

thanks for the arrange albums too, didn't even know these existed !
I didn't know until recently they existed in lossless. Apparently CDbaby is the only place that sells them in FLAC.

- Added Tantei Jinguji Saburo: Hai to Diamond Original Sound Tracks + α (http://vgmdb.net/album/15844) to the previous post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/lossless-video-game-soundtrack-thread-v2-126974/61.html#post2361313).

. . .

And speaking of error correction in EAC with brand new CDs, I also had that problem, but with Silent Hill Sounds Box. Disc 2 the very last track 30 - Sync Error. Every time. I tried at least 5 different drives, and EAC always chocked up in that same spot. No dust or scratches, so must be some kind of manufacturing defect.

Seems that I'm certainly not the only one that has experienced that kind of problem, even with HeartGold/SoulSilver in particular, which is very interesting. Somehow that's good to know; I suppose misery does love company (or I'm comforted in knowing that it's not my drive or something I'm doing wrong).

Yes, you are correct. I've removed the links to that and other Resident Evil releases which I've spotted in the thread, if I've missed anything, feel free to report the post. Thanks.

I still wouldn't rule out the chance that the new version of EAC is a bit "screwed up", I had to revert to an outdated one because it started to give errors on CDs which I've previously ripped flawlessly (a re-rip took place afterwards, of course and no, again not a single error, nor a flaw with the ripped files).

The staff received takedown requests for two game-rips, so to stay a bit safe they've pretty much blacklisted everything from the series, regardless of movie/game relation.

Of course, there are still other ways to get the stuff around, and for those nothing can really be done.

One of the best hentai game I've ever played.
EAC failed to extract track 7 and this problem seems not an individual case. I once asked a seller on YAJ and he got the same problem.
Anyway, the official soundtrack itself is incomplete, so I uploaded the complete sound version ripped from game CD.

Hentai has to be the single most insipid way for a grown-ass man to "entertain" itself, especially when it comes to video games. But, as much as it pains me to, I have to admit a majority of those games have really great soundtracks.

With that said, Shade is awesome!

This is very much your opinion, I can vouch that those games have sometimes very incredibly written story and drama, the hentai stuff is just a plus, i.e. Kanon (whose soundtrack is one of the best) or the good old, Nocturnal Illusion. Are you a lady out of curiosity? Because a friend of mine that happen to be girl also enjoyed the history of the both aforementioned games (and skipped the nude scenes on Kanon), you may as well try and play those two games I mentioned and you will realize how generalizations for this genre are simply not good.

Couldn't agree more on what Arceles said, though these good games are just minority.
The reason I started to play Rance games is Shade's music, but what got me really into the franchise is the stories and characters, they are well-developed than many of normal non-hentai games.
Not to mention that awesome game system in Sengoku Rance, I spent 3 month just playing the game.
As for the entertaining scenes, yes they are entertaining, but in a funny and hilarious way. Actions of this "Corrupted Adol" always make me laugh.

For other case, Utawarerumono is the most challenging SLG I've ever played, Dragon Knight 4 has one of most beautiful yet sadest story I've ever read. These games occupy a very special place in me.
Just want please don't stereotype hentai game with only sex-orientated content, though I won't argue many are, you could sometimes find gems in this genre.

Are you a lady out of curiosity?

. . .

Anyway, no need to sell me into the genre, I already have my own opinion about it, so there's no need for persuasion. I'm very positive I'll find an "incredibly written story and drama" in another video game, movie, and/or book.

Bummer. Too bad you didn't get it. However, I don't think a WiiU is a "priority". Saving up for a car or for food because college is a leech that never relents, certainly. But video games? Not at all.

According to a MediaFire representative that I spoke with yesterday, they were having some problems with some servers, and that's why uploads were screwy. Some accounts apparently were also impaired somehow. Everything seems to be working now, though.

Ah, Thanks for the Info :)

And thanks for the Advice on the Money. Although I actually have my Prioritys set. I already own a car, get just enough money from my parents to pay for fuel, food and to lay a bit to the side. Education is mostly free in my country. It will still be probably 6-12 months until I get that WiiU, because I just got a new PC after 5 years.
If anything should go wrong I'm quitting study, I have a completed apprenticeship already in the field of Chemistry (sounds strange but I didn't knew how to translate iot otherwise :/ ).

I don't know if the ST had 8-bit or 16-bit sound, but I know it was inferior to the Amiga (some people may even say that soundwise, it was inferior to the C64) it could only do Pulse/Square-Waves and White-Noise.

Fun fact: this is the first non-Digicube soundtrack I am submitting to this thread.

Because some filehosts come up with some strange rules regarding archive files in particular, I removed the file extension from the archives so that it won't fall under any such restrictions. To use the files easily, simply add .rar to the end of their filenames. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but I thought it was better than being limited in the future.

Why Mediafire? Because MEGA decided it wasn't going to upload anything. Period. Cleared cache, etc, no go. If anyone catches these Mediafire links go down, let me know and I'll give MEGA another try.

FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Just in case you didn't know. This is actually considered Animation, not Game.

Also anyone trying to request anything from me, I won't be able to upload anything at least until the 16th of June. Currently moving into a new house and waiting on internet to get hooked back up. It would have been hooked up sooner, but the stupid home owners, wouldn't even let us stay there even if we paid rent. So we had to wait for the house to close. We were allowed to store our stuff there, just couldn't sleep there because.. And I quote.. "Because our deceased mother has not approved of it yet." as the current home owner had put... like wtf...

Anyways, Been dealing with this bullshit for past 2 weeks. Anyways hopefully by June 16th I'll be back up and running. No promises..

Atari ST had the same IC found on MSX computer. AY-3-8910 (aka PSG).

It would be sweet if somebody got a hold of that DVD/Blu-ray. I really liked the old lives with Outrun music from SST, would be awesome to see the reunion.

- Ripped with PLEXTOR PX-716A firmware v1.11
- Ripped with +30 offset, disable cache and overread into lead-in/lead-out

- UPC, ISRC, and CD-Text retrieved from subchannel data for CUE sheet
- English track names, FLAC files tagged

TALES OF SYMPHONIA ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK / SSCX 10105~8 (http://vgmdb.net/album/35)

https://mega.co.nz/#!qYlATTib!O85FyDEBgWPXDnHCMW_RnF5uf6tmYGdx9U-bqiqnmR0

Fun trivia: neither AccurateRip nor CUE Tools has this soundtrack in their databases. Considering this one is not only very popular, but it was reprinted, I find that to be very odd. The rip went perfectly though, Test & Copy from original, mint DigiCube CDs, no bootlegs.

Nah, such programs are redundant. It's true. It's bizarre that HJSplit became a widely used tool given that all mainstream archive utilities have supported split archives since forever, but I guess if people want to add an extra step to their process for no good reason then that's their prerogative.

also you should group midi power pro 6 with castlevania

Just like many of the latest OCR releases. Some tracks were submitted as .mp3 only, with the original source lost, so a proper lossless encode is impossible...unless recorded again, of course. In other words, you take what you get.

Here's a better download source (http://calcnerd256.dyndns.org:15211/planet/torrent/Pokemon%20series%20-%20The%20Missingno%20Tracks/FLAC/). You'll easily know which tracks are missing this way, too.

. . . Seriously?

Just open the file, as you would normally do with any other, and it will load that particular archive combined with the rest. All parts must be together in the same folder for this to function properly, obviously.

Hi there:

I'm looking for the gamerip of Wii - Punch Out!!
Does anyone still have it?
Please share it.
Also, I'm looking for the intro song (with narrator) of Soul Blade/Edge. The OST of this one doesn't have this version.

Thanks in advance.

You can use CueTools or Foobar2000. But since you're not familiar with Foobar2000 I'd recommend using CueTools it's somewhat simpler for splitting into tracks.

Thank you everyone for creating all these mirrors for Bomberman Hero. Normally I wouldn't ask for an upload to another website, but it just happens that from all MEGA links posted here, Bomberman Hero was the only one I REALLY wanted, since I'm a big fan of it. Everything else I either had already or didn't care.

But now... I'm disappointed. The tracks are off. "Off" as in that the last few samples of the former track are at the beginning of the next track. Does the tracks on the CD really have no pause at all between tracks?

I don't have that particular CD, so I won't be sure about the "original condition" of the album. That could also depend on the way the album was ripped: most rips here have the gaps "Appended to the previous track", while some go and "Append gaps to the next track".

Here's what the description at What.CD says:

"Please note that the tracks on this album run into each other and should be played with something that can produce accurate gapless playback. The indexes for each track seem to be off by about a tenth of a second, which means a fragment of the previous track will appear on the following track. This is not a problem with the rip and should not be reported as such."

This seems like a simple fix.

Ah, so it really is like that in the original mix. Still baffling that they managed to make a proper soundtrack Bomberman 64 and then create just a single recording of all tracks and don't even get the timing right. Well, that's what a chiptune version is there for in this case.

tnx for this really awesome soundtrack.. 2 bad there is no anothers officials soundtracks from super bomberman series

I agree. I'm listening to Super Bomberman 3 myself right now, and wow! This makes up for the letdown Bomberman Hero was.
It actually has properly-remastered (at times even remixed), expanded tracks and not just simple recordings from the video game. Truly sad there isn't more of this.

The Bomberman Hero issue is fixable by ripping the CD with an offset more suitable to the way the CD was produced. Looking at the tracks in a waveform viewer, every single one actually starts at around 9500-10000 samples back, so it probably should have been ripped with an offset to accommodate that. Of course, I doubt anyone wants to see a CD ripped with an offset that's under 9000, so there you go.

You can adjust the audio by using CUE Tools to encode the tracks with a 9493 offset. They'll start in the right place like that. Of course, if you're a hardcore collector and perfectionist, you can't change the state of any of the files, but... there's the fix, if anyone wants it.

This is one of the rarer soundtracks out there. It has become one of my favorites too. A great listen for Amiga fans.

Hey Jessie, since you are sharing lossless again, can you upload Ryu ga Gotoku soundtracks? Mainly the newer ones.

As for MIDI, you should post the DISK DATA (MIDI files). I have SC-55mkII, SC-88, SC-88Pro, SC-8850, MU2000EX, etc, all 100% digitial (S/PDIF) so the quality is BETTER than those CDs. The down side is not every track is present on those MIDI files.

what's the point of posting music from zx spectrum, nes and other old consoles' games in lossless? Isn't this music is like... I dunno.. Like 32kbps mp3 (in terms of quality) in nature, since the lo-fi samples were used in the process of production?

I'm looking for a FLAC encoding of Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten Original Soundtrack (DS remake version, not the GBA Gyakuten Saiban 1 + 2 OST), but have had no luck whatsoever. Found a link: http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/lossless-video-game-soundtrack-thread-links-first-64743/655.html#post1916823 but according to the file-sharing website, the file doesn't exist. There are plenty of MP3 encodes around the web, but no FLAC in circulation.
Could anyone share this if they have it? Thanks very much for this thread!

Like 32kbps mp3 (in terms of quality) in nature, since the lo-fi samples were used in the process of production?Samples weren't used by those older machines*, they made sound from scratch like a synthesiser does (think of those old Casio keyboards; there's no sampled audio data inside which is why the "piano" voice never sounded anything like a real piano, it was just the best approximation they could come up with given that they were creating the sound synthetically).

You can take the audio data directly from game ROMs and use emulation routines to play the audio back (in foobar, WinAmp etc), the file sizes involved are typically in the order of tens of kilobytes per track; there's then no reason to use FLAC, as among other things it would result in massively bigger file sizes. FLAC is usually used to preserve CD releases - with a CD it doesn't matter whether it's a NES soundtrack or a symphony orchestra, it's just data to be encoded, and if you're going to compress it, why lose data in the process by using a lossy compression scheme like MP3?

*There's a caveat here about the SNES (the SPC700 is a wavetable, just using very low fidelity samples), and also using noise channels on PSG chips (found in NES, SMS, Atari ST etc) for low-bitrate PWM playback, and other minor exceptions but it's not really worth going in to it.
