I used Vegeta's settings guide, the only difference is I only rip using full image (not separate tracks) so if you want separate tracks then use Cuetools or Foobar2000 to split it. Image/Cue is the closest you can get to a 100% accurate "virtual CD".

Sometime I go to rutracker.org (http://rutracker.org/forum/index.php) to get some OST that have dead link here. But since last week, it seems the search function does not work anymore, every search send back to the homepage of the website, still, the tracker is online since some torrent continue to download, and I found nothing in recent news about a problem with the site.

I tried to do some search by google, but even there, google found nothing, no thread links, when last week it worked.

Since its a good website known for sharing flac source, I'm asking here if anyone have experienced the same behavior ?

^RUTracker usually doesn't like its searches popping up on Google; you're better off setting up an account on that site, and using their search engine to find the stuff you want.
I'd say the Shrine usually has the majority of the things since I know people on that site just mirror stuff from here.

So let me just chime in to say, this isn't really an album for everyone. It's plays with a lot of ambiance with some light melodies floating around and a handful of sound effects filling the gaps. I guess ethereal is a good way to describe the type of sound present in a few tracks. I'll be honest though, there's a few tracks on here that I don't like very much, but with that being said there's several I found that I did indeed like and I'll be keeping the soundtrack as I think the pros outweigh the cons. I should also point out:
This is NOT the incomplete 16 track rip that was getting passed around on (from what I could tell) a number of chinese sharing forums, all 17 tracks are present in this package.
(The irony of that would be that track 17 is probably one of the better tracks on the album.)

This is the original version from 1996, not the much louder Basiscape remaster. As a bonus, I included the two tracks in the Sega Saturn version of the game that are not on the album, taken from their (lossless) SSF files, with the volumes adjusted proportionate to the rest of the album. They're unnumbered and at the end, so don't confuse them with the real CD tracks.
This is what convinced me I could really get into rhythm-oriented electronic music (I don't mean techno exactly; this isn't really dance music and it's more melodic, but they're not unrelated). It was early on when I was getting into game music and before that I was very much a classic rock & etc. kind of person, practically ideologically opposed to electronic music and drum machines and stuff. Then this soundtrack came along and opened my ears. My only complaint is it's too short.

A CD only released as a package extra to an obscure bishounen PC game from 2002. Pseudo-classical style music with lots of harpsichord and bright sounds. Features one of Sakimoto's most tender and warm compositions (as cheesy as those adjectives are), the unassuming "Love". There's a speculative composer breakdown discussion in the album's thread on VGMdb, which I think is very agreeable, indicating a good chunk of this is by Ayako Saso. She's also quite good and this is very different from how Ridge Racer/Sampling Masters fans know her.

Vegeta, I can imagine somewhat what you're feeling, although I'm sure it's much worse. I haven't been in the situation you're in, but my meager advice is to feel bad when you want to (it can be one of the most visceral things in life and may be a good experi), take pleasure in the things you can and try to seek them out, mourn the relationship for awhile, and then try to move on. A new relationship being the best way, but I know that's not always possible or even desirable at first. It's not really original, but there are other women who can make you happy. You can find one. And you will. It may be like a slow, plodding, oppressive, despairing art film, but it's a movie that will have a happy ending.

I have the official album in FLAC format but had previously added the theme variations (1-3,5) and Booze & Pills Loop from this rip (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/max-payne-3-complete-rip-tomandandy-115080/3.html), which is in (lossy?) OGG format captured from Line-In.

Anywho, with the hints from OrangeC (who commented in the thread linked above) I downloaded Open IV (v2.1) and ripped the tracks (only the above mentioned ones) directly from the game (as opposed to Line-In) and converted them to FLAC instead. I only did this for the sake of achieving uniformity in my (custom) album and apologize if it comes short of meeting anyones needs. Thought I'd share either way.

Notes
-I don't really hear much difference, was hoping there would be less static / popping but I think that's originally there in the game. FWIW, it does seem ever so slightly better (could be placebo effect)
-Size-wise, its only 5MB bigger than the OGGs
-Enjoy

Is there a version of the Perfect Dark Dual CD that doesn't have chips and background noise/ringing? I thought my CD rip was just a bad rip, but it turns out the band camp version has them too.
The greatest examples of annoying chips are on track 5 and the ringing is pretty bad on track 8.

I didn't realize the track 8's ring until i modded my device's sound and now i can't unhear it. Did I just ruin one of my favorite OSTs for myself?

I'm going through a rough patch where I can't download anything larger than 70MB to save my life because internet goes away for 30 seconds and comes back for 30 seconds and repeats. It makes just browsing difficult. Who knows how easy or difficult I can upload a 100MB file.

I'm more than willing to accept social updates from people that are sharing their collections with others. I'm getting content from these people I'd otherwise never have access to on my own resources, I'm very thankful.

And its not like you have to read long posts like that. Do you not have a scroll wheel? Do you not skip those posts? I don't really have patience for mp3-fodder unless it's specifically requested, or it's at the very least the best quality currently available, like the La Tale or Okami Retro soundtracks which I technically count as lossless when they can't go higher than lossy bitrates.

This was a bit of a pain to get a hold of, but I think it was worth it.

We've been through this before. A little "fluff" between the posts isn't going to lead you to accidentally download lossy files. There are plenty of other threads to post MP3s, but this is not one of them. This thread is actually surprisingly friendly and sharing. We're all like-minded perfectionists and only want the best rips here. I don't think MP3s are crap, in fact I use them myself (v0 only though :P) to stream to my phone. However I think we're all trying to build a place we know we can come for "archival" copies of stuff that can actually be pretty hard to come by.

My point is that we're not damning anyone or any file format, we just want to keep things organized.

I can definitely do Wings of the Goddess, I can't remember 100% if I have the "Plus" album :-x I'm pretty sure I do because I used to play the game and they would give you special in-game items with those albums so I bought them all XD

I was a little torn on how to tag this. I ended up just going with freedb's tag which treated disc 2 more like a separate "PlayOnline" album rather than just "Disc 2". I saved the archive in Disc 1 & Disc 2 folders, and used single image + cue sheet style so if you want to re-tag it yourself, it's just a simple cue sheet edit.


This was requested the other day. Wings of the Goddess is coming too!

Your disparaging "disclaimer" made me think there was something wrong with the rip. Cuetools verifies it against the AccurateRip database as perfect.

Not the rip, the log. The log of the previous upload by LiquidAcid fails to be verified with Exact Audio Copy CheckLog.exe because it has been modified (converted to Unix line returns and UTF-8, according to LiquidAcid).
This does not change anything about the rip itself, you just have to put trust in LiquidAcid's not modifying anything in the log (I do), instead of trusting EAC's checklog.exe, if you ever cared about it. Or you can find a way to change the file back to the way it was, but that I could not do, as EAC seems picky about it.
Whether EAC checksum algorithm is secure or deserves any kind of faith (or interest at all) is another debate not fit for this topic.

Tl;dr: LiquidAcid is seemingly angry, therefore the disclaimer probably intended to me and other log fetishists.

I've been collecting Final Fantasy XI stuff lately. My favorite is the nice box set of all the OSTs minus the last two expansions (WotG & Adoulin). I also have my favorite renditions of each of the main game OSTs - FF1&2 (psx version), FF3 (DS version), The remaster albums of FF4, FF5 & FF6, the regular OSTs for FF7, FF8 & FF9, and the Regular OST for FFX + the remixed one that came with the FFX HD Remaster. I have a few other concert albums and arranged albums like the Black Mages, Star Onions, Earthbound Papas, etc. I've always been a big Final Fantasy fan, so those are mostly what I collect.

The genesis of my VGM love? Sonic Adventure. That game was the first I recall trying to record the music to a cassette tape.

My first video games were Duck hunt and Mario.

I've always liked video game music, but the game that truly started me down the path was persona 4.

My 1st game was Tank A 1990, which turns out to be an unofficial hack of Battle City.

And the 1st game to leave an impression in terms of music was Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom for NES. Watching those cutscenes was a revelation, and there wasn't a single stage with the music I didn't like. Actually it was the first time when I thought about a video game - man there's so much memorable music here! I loved every aspect of the game. It is still a personal favorite of mine and the best fast paced ninja platformer ever made.

Haha, I remember doing that with Castlevania IV on SNES.

I played a little Atari before I could really remember much, but Super Mario Bros. was my first biggie. Of course anyone, even non-gamers, could whistle the stage 1 music of that :P

I am having a problem with extracting this file. Every time I re-download the rar and extract it I get a error message saying that the crc check failed for "10-Cave Theme.flac" and the file is broken. The song plays but it's still a broken stream. If you could, can you provide a fixed rar or just a link for a corrected track 10? Oh, and everything else, presumably, extracted just fine with no issues! I'd also like to thank you for uploading this release as well!

Oh yeah, my first first piece if work in music was legend of zelda on NES, love the tracks on there along with jabbing the enemies.

The first videogame i played was super mario world, the first videogame that got me interested in VGM...probably final fantasy 8.

...Why didn't I even consider that? I just use 7zip to un-archive everything so I didn't even pay any mind to the situation and blew it off as a bad archive.

But my first game was either Bobby Is Going Home or Kaboom on the Atari 2600. The game that got me into gamemusic was Super Mario Bros. 3, but I really became a huge fan when I got a Game Boy (Final Fantasy Legend, Batman, Tiny Toons) and a SNES (Mario World, Contra III, Axelay).

I for one had own both in-ears, on ears and over... The max I spent on in-ear was $299.00 for the Shure SE425 Earphones. In-ear for that price wasnt going to cut it for me I mean since I have Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones for 299.00 (168.00 on the cut) seem to have almost everthing that I wanted. The stage sound is bigger and its sounds better then most in-ear in its range and from my experiment with family and friends..bigger is better unless u go above $500. Dont get me wrong in-ears are great but, its not like having 2 speakers in your ear. The Hifi-man 400 ($299) are awesome not cold as people say they are and plays every genre just fine, there a little heavy and the materials are promising..The only way they are going to break them would the drop of there own weight lol. I mean it depends what u like and what genre u listen to but, what I mention above goes for almost everything u need unless u want something more expensive then I would go even further.

Always always try the headphones before buying them. A few years back I was looking into getting new headphones, and I ended up buying the Grado SR80i's. They're not expensive, but they sure beat a lot of the other headphones that I was looking at the time.

But like what Dragoon said, it really depends on what you want to listen to. In-ears are okay, but I still prefer over the heads mainly for better listening and for general usage. In ears are great, and more practical if you were to go out on a walk instead of having a gigantic headphone on your head, but thats just me to be honest.

I always felt over-the-ear headphones give me a feeling of unease akin to claustrophobia ^^"

What a stupid mistake by me. ^^'

Well, I got myself the AKG K550, really impressive headphones and looks, incredibly comfortable, they might lack just a bit of bass... Compared to my xba-h3, however the soundstage is immense as well as it has an incredible clarity in instrument separation, certainly it is not exactly a portable setup but the experience with them is simply as hearing music with no headphones at all, so comfortable that after long periods of time it feels as if they weren't at all in the head, really happy with them.

I was wondering if someone could please re-upload the two Suikogaiden soundtracks? All of the links I've found seem to be down. I really love what y'all do here, it's been great finally replacing some of my favourite soundtracks with nicer quality versions ^_^

Anything "luxury" isn't necessary, but does that mean he can't splurge on something that brings him enjoyment? Downloading video game OSTs from here doesn't cost you a dime and that isn't necessary either :P

Nah, we are all video game music junkies, really, it is necessary.

Good sound is desired but it's not necessary to spend $$$.

Cases in point - the Sony XBA-H3 earphones and PHA-2 DAC/amp.

The H3 seems to be a bloated bass disaster that sacrifices accuracy for more "euphonic" mid-bass. The $250 price tag on it is a bit too rich when you take a look at the frequency response of this pair (http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=GR_Earphones&search_target=title&search_keyword=600&document_srl=6023) of IEM's I got for $30. My earphones come very close to the sound of the highly regarded AKG Q701 and Beyer DT770, both of which I own. Compare this to that of the XBA-H3 (http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=GR_Earphones&search_target=title&search_keyword=xba&document_srl=26285) which shows the imbalance in sound as you can see from the nasty humps and dips.

One thing I also don't get is why anyone would drive this ~30 ohm-impedance IEMs with an overpriced gear gear like the PHA-2. The PHA-2 is a good unit but one could get a sub-$100 FiiO DAC/Amp (equally as good, audibly) instead to drive headphones. Moreover, the PHA-2's headphone out impedance is around 10 ohm, which will alter the frequency response of almost all IEMs by quite a lot. Output impedance has a far-reaching consequence on the overall sound quality and you can read more about that here: NwAvGuy: Headphone & Amp Impedance (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html). You will be surprised to find that some Samsung and Apple smartphones do a far better job at driving headphones than this $500 gear.

No need to spend a fortune to get good sound. The audio tech has come a long way and even many smartphones boast good SQ.

Just my two cents.

I must admit, I might exaggerate.... a bit. However I also must say, videogame music has influenced, by quite a lot, many aspects of my life; Even I wrote a whole novel which poped out simply walking around, listening to this music and letting my mind wander around, for it is simply the perfect music for any kind of story that might lie in the thoughts of anybody.

Some of us are trying to find more detail to such melodies, and believe me when I tell you, there is more detail, but at the same time I have to put a lot of attention to whatever I'm listening, otherwise it would make no sense investing in such equipment, in my humble opinion.

I have seen those graphics in the past, however they seem to do little justice to the H3, I do agree however that the bass need to be tamed, hence my EQ for this headphones reduces lower frequencies, other than that, mids and highs are very, very, very forward, and the soundstage is amazing. (Edit: even with EQ this tamed bass sounds quite nice compared to my AKG K550)

True, however PHA-2 and XBA-H3 were made to get together and I don't use a lot of pair of IEMS, indeed, my AKG K550 it is supposed to be 32 ohms and, to my surprise, it simply gets a wider soundstage and clarity than my own XBA-H3, so much that I'm really temped to sell the XBA-H3 (Edit: then again... I cannot exactly walk around with the AKG K550) I first tested this headphones at RicherSounds here in Sheffield and later on bought them, following previous advice, the first thing I did at the store counter was to plug those headphones into my PHA-2.

Also note that my PHA-2 was perhaps the most expensive thing that I got, since I had to import it from Japan, everything else comes pretty much from offers I found (the XBA-H3 were 160 near black friday last year), hell, even my Z2, which I swapped for an Xperia Ultra (The guy that swapped me his z2 told me that... he needed a bigger device and after looking at his fingers I agreed)

All transducers have some degree of impedance swing and the impedance of the H3 have been measured by two websites:

On a sidenote, I have been curious about the K550 but I was heavily discouraged after reading this study conducted by Dr. Sean Olive at Harman Kardon: Audio Musings by Sean Olive: The Relationship between Perception and Measurement of Headphone Sound Quality (http://seanolive.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-relationship-between-perception-and.html). For your amusement, this is the ranking (not officially published but guessed correctly by a certain audio forum member):

HP1 - LCD-2 (Audeze)
HP2 - K701
HP3 - Bose
HP4 - K550

HP6 - Crossfade (v-moda)

The seal (tightness and fit) of K550 seemed to have been very variable across people and unless you were born with the perfect head shape, perceived SQ was very low - even lower than the Bose (Yuck!)

Well, I seriously don't know what else to tell you, I explained the thing about the XBA-H3, as for the PHA-2 that 16 ohm load leaves room for a bit of doubt and finally, for the AKG K550 I was aware of the fitting problem but like I said, I went and tested them personally, my head seems to be compatible with this headphones and I seriously enjoy them.

Why does it leave room for doubt? The Golden Ears measurement more or less confirms the distortion profile at 16 ohm load (very good). Lower ohm load taxes the amplifier far more and that's the reason why it was tested at that resistance (performance indicator at more stressing loads). At 300 ohm, it's drawing far less power and distortion should be lower, but it's not the case here: either that's a typo (likely) or a flawed product. This is what distortion should usually look like at varying loads:

Output impedance is calculated using resistance with no load and resistance with known load. 16 ohm load is just fine for this calculation...

And what does "clarity effect" mean? If anything, the 32ohm K550 is likely to suffer with the PHA-2.

Not really, listen, I fear that my last comment would derail too much the thread as you tend to be quite detailed in your explanations. What I found is simply that the PHA-2 simply supports different impedances and those measurements with a fixed 16 Ohm load simply don't apply, or rather, apply only to that load. You're free to believe the data given on the pages you mentioned before, just as I'm free to believe with both my ears (admitedly, not exactly golden but good enough to differientiate between MP3 and FLAC), the official specs of the PHA-2 (that I haven't seen before) and the fact that the output impedance is not fixed nor reflects the characteristics of that 16 ohm load.

For once, you should try it instead of bashing it with said data.

Your theory is good, indeed you are perhaps far more knowledgable than I regarding headphones and amplifier measurements, but I'm afraid that as everything, Sound is very subjective and mere graphs will simply not define the overall sounding quality, thus neither you or me is wrong... but also not right, doubt is therefore appropiate.

P.D: Clarity Effect, pardon me for wording it in so not audiophile terms -> great instrument separation (that 1% thd must be acting somehow)

I'm not sure what that means.. if you are trying to target me, but anyone is more than welcome to get anything from my collection with very little effort. I forgot about that old post, I had switched it over to a subscription system since then, because of how many people were asking for a ton of stuff. So I let them just grab what they wanted instead.

That is a Very difficult question to answer as they all will get you grooving, moving and singing to silly lyrics. Well uh... let's see... hmmmm ok I was reeled into the series from DDR X2 which has a lot of cool songs I mean A LOT; and slowly traced back to the beginning to understand what this series was about.

My automatic answer to you would be Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX, the classic and well known version and don't get me wrong its on my top 5, but there's a version which will glue you to the series with its nonstop megamix kinda of a sampler of what the series represents.
