giving it a listen now and for what it's worth, this may possibly be the worst sounding video game OST release ever... so fair warning. way too much clipping, and there's a strange buzzing/crackling throughout all the audio. yoinks. This also sounds like it's synthesized/sampled to me, probably demo versions or something so it's probably considerably different from the orchestrated version that's going to end up in the game and the proper OST

Also note that the CD text has "minecart" spelled as "minecraft" - I don't know if this was intentional but it was too funny to correct

My log technically won't score 100% on any logchecker because my drive uses C2 and I never do test & Copy routines. but it can at least be considered to be a 100% identical copy to the original, which is about all I care about.

Hmm, does varese have a bad track record with VGM? More familiar with their film soundtrack stuff. I don't know if it will be complete or not but I'm betting it must be much fuller than only 8 tracks, and I think it will be entirely different from anything we've heard so far since they will be having the tracks actually orchestrated and recorded.

Also, one tier of the kickstarter was to include a download of the OST, and another tier promised a limited edition soundtrack. I have no clue how those will compare to eachother or anything else announced so far.

Ah. True. I'm sure it will be easy to obtain elsewhere, and besides we don't know if their CD will differ at all from the CD that was a reward on kickstarter, or even the download from kickstarter, which I presume would be allowed here so long as VS isn't involved with those, even if the content may be partially or completely identical

o_O Varese releasing in CD the score of Yooka-Laylee? That's new. Like.. okay, it's not the first time they do it, they did release Abzu, but.. Yooka Laylee is a bit.. "more" mainstream and almost doesn't seem like a fitting for them! o.o I do guess that if they picked it up, it's because the final score is really bombazzling in terms of orchestral renditions.. that's exciting, but it's sad that since it's Varese, I won't be able to get it here. Hope I eventually find it anywhere else...

So if we post the gamerip one... is it allowed or not ?
It depends. In case publishing rights for the music have been acquired by Varse, they "own" rights to the music they choose to not release, too… Not to mention that the game-rip would surely have stuff that appears on the official release.

In short, be on the safe side and don't post anything.

PonyoBellanote
02-21-2017, 03:08 PM
If you ask me, a gamerip is different. Varese probably just owns the rights to the soundtrack/CD release. It's a game.. the music is probably owned by the authors, be it the composers or Playtonic. I guess when it comes out, we'll know, by the credits.

Yeah, well, I've seen removed expanded/bootlegs releases of movies/series which had an official release published by the likes of Varse, explain again why I shouldn't apply the same principle to games?

TheSkeletonMan939

The composers very rarely own their own music. The only time I know of when that happens is when the cues or score in question are rejected. And even then there are exceptions.

In the case of yooka laylee, I have a very hard time believing that a freshly independent and high profile team would sell off their most valuable assets. I'll eat my shoe if it wasn't simply licensed to VS.

I was simply saying, relax. In the case of games, it's different than with movies. Playtonic Games, being an independent company, own the music of Yooka Laylee for sure and I'd bet this is just a license. If you ask me, due to that I'd suggest the Varese release not be shared, but a gamerip or a backer soundtrack should be okay..

You know, for example when LLL released CD versions of some game soundtracks although there were digital versions by the game company themselves before? I believe it's something like that, and Varese is just the licensor for an official CD version, for purchase for those that aren't backers. I don't think we'll have much trouble with this game. It's simple, share anything but the Varese release. Also, damn this soundtrack must be good for Varese to want to license it. Like, full orchestra goodness a la Nuts & Bolts. Can't wait to hear..

I don't understand this. https://www.lacedrecords.co/collections/yooka-laylee. Is Varese some sort of special edition with more tracks or what? *shrugs* Only when April comes we'll know, I guess. Also the preview is sampled too. Does the soundtrack sound that good that they want us to hear the goodness on the day of release or what?

What software would you recommend? I have MakeMKV, but I think that's for bluray.

I tried ImgBurn, but get hit with copyright protection, I can extract the files with DVD Decrypter, but then it's not a straight ISO file from DVD .. so that doesn't exactly work. audio_ts folder only for audio-only having dvds. vob files having movie broken chunks. combining with makemkv or other program, then can having extract audio only.

To add on to what others said, if you're still a bit mystified - the audio is all encapsulated within those .VOB files.
What I usually do (whether this results in bit-accurate audio may be contestable) is just drag-and-drop the VOB files into Audacity (with the FFMPEG plugin) and export to FLAC. MakeMKV is definitely the 'safer' method though.

Does anyone have any of these releases in lossless:
Dragon Age: Origins Collector's Edition By Inon Zur (The one that has 7 bonus tracks), if not in lossless the highest available mp3 quality will suffice
Call Of Duty 2 Official Soundtrack By Graeme Revell
Far Cry 3 By Brian Tyler

Also I am looking for the highest quality available releases of BioShock: Infinite soundtrack that I think you got if you pre-ordered or got the collector's edition, as well as the tracks that were released for the original BioShock game. When I say highest quality available, I'm looking for ideally a copy that originated from a digital download from meeting exclusivity criteria (pre-ordering or buying a specific edition, or in the case of BioShock, downloaded from the website back in 2007 when they were still up) or from a CD that came with said criteria. Thanks in advance

Ah, I meant that I just drag-and-drop the file directly from the disc, into Audacity. No video-ripping involved (except for the temp files that are created when importing into Audacity). But since you're using MakeMKV and you can probably ignore my advice.

i think we're making this waaaaay more complex than it has to be. Install anyDVD - pretty sure there's a free trial that should allow you to rip one dvd lol. Run this in the background and then use imgburn - should be easy peasy.

I have other programs for properly (emphasis on properly) extracting audio from DVD and Blu Ray rips, but they're not free, and they don't work if the disc isnt decrypted before ripping to ISO (which is what anyDVD helps imgburn take care of)

if you manage to get a decrypted ISO of the disc, I can browse through all the audio tracks, extract to wav, compress to FLAC, tag and upload here :)

Upon testing a couple of the track they are upsampled. So yeah... Anyone have FLAC versions of Mass Effect 2 OST and the following: Combat / Atmospheric / Kasumi / Overlord? Those are the ones labeled as 16bit flac on qobuz.

Edit: Upon testing all the downloads most of the tracks are clean but some have a frequency cutoff, but the spectro goes all the way to the 22.5 on all tracks. Is this normal?

Don't rip the audio, lol. It's useless. It's 2.0 LPCM. Not even 5.1. It's the same as the CD. The good of the DVD is the gameplay footage that go with it.

Just rip the ISO, and then upload it as it is. Please.

It would be wrong to assume that it's completely identical to the CD even if the content is the same (is it for this release? Genuinely not sure)

The audio could be at a different sampling rate/but depth, it could be mastered completely differently, etc. it would be wise to at least inspect it and see what's hidden on there. I'll definitely explore a bit once I get to check out the ISO

---------- Post added at 10:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 AM ----------

Not to mention that DVD audio is lossy.

Usually the case, but not always the case. I find it's usually lossless on music related releases, even on very low profile releases that weren't necessarily made by quality conscious labels, etc. again it takes a little exploring and seeing exactly what is, or isn't on disc. It's possible that they prioritized audio over video since the orchestra is the main attraction, game footage clips aren't very demanding of the best encoding quality. And if it's a DVD 9 then there should be plenty of room.

That said, yeah it's a bummer when it turns out they are lossy compressed. It's one reason why some music video or concert releases are still better off being collected on LD, especially if it's something that'll never get a BD release.

God, will you stop it with your know-it-all, smart-ass attitude? You don't fool no one. The DVD is pretty much a slideshow of gameplay footage of the games where the music comes from. We knew it, because the DVD video is in Youtube, so we had heard it, and now compared it to the CDs. It's a selection, not all of what's in the two-disc.. it sounds the same. With the exception of no applauses in between some tracks. I want the ISO, I was just telling him to share the ISO and now a audio rip of it lmao.

I find it dumb that you had decided to wait this long to listen to the album until you had a perfect rip. So what? Seriously the music matters more than the god damned data to an extent. If I had waited til today that BoneSatyr released a 100% rip of The Last Guardian's soundtrack with scans of his, I would've never ever experienced the soundtrack, I'd have had to wait since December til now, February. I got ahold of Hikaru's FLAC rip.. and it worked for me until then. Geez.

Lol what in the world is your problem dude. You can't make any legitimate comparison between the audio on the DVD and the CD if you're only viewing a copy of it on YouTube, you should know better than that. I'm also not sure why it bothers you so much that I'm not personally interested in listening to an improperly done rip, or adding one to my library.

So I took a look into the .ISO that Vegeta uploaded (thank you, vegeta)
3 Tracks are missing but the audio quality seems to be ever so slightly higher than the CD audio (48 KHz vs 44.1 KHz).

TheSkeletonMan939

That's just the DVD standard. The audio could easily just be the 44.1 audio upsampled to 48. Just a word of warning; there's no guarantee it was mastered 'properly' in that sense.

There are no "3 tracks missing" the DVD is not the whole album, it's just a selection. The DVD is nothing more than a selection of music in the album set to gameplay footage. Nothing really special.. no 5.1 audio, no different recording, no biggie, really.

That's true. But just in case, I wasted two hours of my life and ripped, split and tagged the audio.
11 tracks, missing "Ocarina Medley Suite", "The Legend of Zelda Jingle Suite" and "'Ocarina of Time' Hyrule Field".

Thanks for your work eustass. I will also give your files a look over later tonight and see if I can make a more thorough comparison to the CD versions and figure out exactly what was done with them.

In very interested in hearing how this compares to the Zelda 25th disc that was included with Skyward Sword. Unfortunately short, but really well recorded. I have a sizable collection of classical/orchestral discs and I'd say that one might be one of the best sounding of them all. System demo disc for sure.

TheSkeletonMan939
02-23-2017, 02:28 AM
The recycled Chad Seiter arrangements (I think just Wind Waker and Twilight Princess) are definitely warmer-sounding on the 25th anniversary disc. Brass is a little more in-your-face in this interpretation. I was apprehensive at first to this recording but its growing on me. I'm happy with the tracks they chose to play.

MrRom92
02-23-2017, 06:59 AM
I just gave the ISO a look over, here are the juicy details

• the tracks are provided in 16/48 LPCM, not lossy compressed at all
• the HF cutoff is around 23k, which is of course above the limit of CD. The CD recording, on the other hand, cuts off around 21Khz - this indicates that both versions were separately downsampled from the same higher resolution source material, just with different settings for their intended targets. Either that or they had 2 dedicated recorders running. The mastering doesn't otherwise seem to be any different between the two.

IMO since these are in fact unique and not simply upsampled from the CD version they would be worth keeping the files around in your library. You're not missing out on much if you don't of course, but it's not like they are entirely pointless. I tagged the tracks as belonging to "disc 3" of the set in order to organize/integrate them neatly. Thanks to Vegeta for taking the extra effort of bringing us this disc as well and allowing us to have a complete copy of this release :)

You are not the one to think that but it's not the case, it's a lossless format too but an old format who takes a lot of space so compressed lossless formats ( not the sound , just the size of the files) have been created as FLAC / ALAC / APE (old format too) etc

Regarding the actual bandwidth it's not a problem to download but already converted to FLAC otherwise if all my collection was in wav, I should use 8TB ;-)

Thanks to Vegeta for uploading the ISO of the Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary Concert DVD.

I stuck the video (without re-encoding) and audio (compressing the PCM data to FLAC) in an MKV container to make it slightly easier to play. I also put the track titles (English & Japanese) in the chapter titles. The resultant file is barely smaller than the ISO, of course (3.3 GiB vs 3.7 GiB - the only saving being on the audio).

I've uploaded it here for anyone interested:

https://mega.nz/#!iMgXRCjA!FR0QOsjyMMtFjGYyTvHJoG7XWJ3tqXrXKfVcrkAVmCE

For anyone who already has the ISO and access to the relevant tools, you can run the following commands to get the same result and save yourself the download:

# concatenate relevant VOB files into one
cat VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB > VTS_01.VOB
# extract audio as FLAC
ffmpeg -i VTS_01.VOB -map 0:2 -c:a flac audio.flac
# re-encode FLAC with higher compression, because why not
flac -8 -V -f audio.flac
# place original video stream plus FLAC into a new MKV container
ffmpeg -fflags +genpts -i VTS_01.VOB -i audio.flac -map 0:1 -c:v copy -map 1:0 -c:a copy temp.mkv
# extract chapters from ISO
dvdxchap zelda.iso > chapters.txt
# merge chapter text
mkvmerge temp.mkv --chapters chapters.txt -o temp_chapters.mkv
# get chapters XML so we don't have to write it by hand - ain't nobody got time for that
mkvextract chapters temp_chapters.mkv > chapters.xml
# (update chapters.xml to include English & Japanese track names from vgmdb)
# merge updated chapter XML
mkvmerge temp.mkv --chapters chapters.xml -o final.mkv

I don't disagree with any of that - I just find it marginally more convenient to have the video (and audio) stored in an MKV container over the original DVD ISO and thought others might, too, hence the upload.

In my analysis I found that the DVD audio is true 48khz and not upsampled from the 44.1khz CD master, so it's demonstratably not identical to the CD audio. If this matters to anyone then there's a valid reason to keep the DVD tracks in your audio library, if not then no need to go through the extra hassle as there is no exclusive content or anything like that, just a higher resolution master.

You do realize you're trying to argue about perceivable differences in the Lossless thread, right? It's not about if we can tell the difference, it's about having the best quality version. Based off what you're saying we should all be listening to MP3 175 and 245 kbit/s since where the MP3 transparency cutoff is. Know your audience :)

A CD/Flac Version of this Album doesn't exist. But of course, it is part of the Seiken Densetsu Complete Box, no track is missing.
Here's CD 14 & 15 of it, with the Soundtrack from Children of Mana. EAC-Log included

What edition is yours?

Also accuraterip isn't turned on so that's a problem with verifying..
also your offset is set to 0 which is never good. For your drive you want to set it to +6

If you correctly follow the initial accuraterip setup then it should automatically determine that, it asks you to insert a few discs and then as soon as it sees a repeated value then it goes from there. 3 of my drives (all from different manufacturers and each one about 5 years apart) all have an offset of 6. Always wondered why! Also wonder if there's a drive out there with a red and write offset of 0 - that might be super ideal for burning things that are ISO based but still have redbook audio and can't typically be burned using EAC (which has offset compensation) but still should be burned with the proper offsets - like CD based games for example. With an offset of 0, there'd be nothing to compensate for, meaning *any* burning program should be able to be used with ease. Just a thought though and I'm not sure any drive like that exists.

---------- Post added at 12:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 AM ----------

aaaanyway. No luck whatsoever getting the special edition but I see the rip is up on APL, and I have enough buffer to last me a lifetime so that's fine by me hahah. I did manage to snag a Neon switch at midnight, didnt even get frostbite :D got botw on the eshop, let it download overnight, took a short nap and got to wake up to the game. Fucking incredible, to say the least. And I'm loving the music I've been hearing so far. Can't wait to nab that rip and give it a proper listen.

Yooka Laylee soundtrack comes in a month and unless they are really blueballing the hella outta us.. I think the soundtrack is streamed, and not orchestrated like Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. It's stupid that they'd offer samples with the sampled sound and then the CD would be orchestrated.

Also, about Yooka Laylee? Quoting Efendija from VGMDB: "Coming a bit late with some corrections... Laced got an exclusive license for this OST so likely Varse is manufacturing (US release), Universal is distributing. The same as the other Laced releases."

I honestly think the Varese thing was an error by Amazon, we shall see in April if anyone gets this. And if so, it seems the license is Laced exclusive.

Browsed that particular Release earlier aswell, so many Questions...

I wanna believe that "The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra" did it, but more and more
it seems like that won't be the Case, it's the only Reference i could find for it being fully orchestrated...

Also Laced isn't offering lossless DLs for the digital Purchase.... Not happy about that, to say the least...

Yeah, like, it's a month from release, and the previews only show streamed music. I don't think they're blueballing us a lot and the actual soundtrack will feature orchestra music. It makes no sense.. but we were promised a Prague recording in the Kickstarter backer goals, and it was reached..

It'll likely be a Skyward Sword situation where some select tracks are actually performed (boss battles, cutscenes) by a real orchestra and others via samples and synths.

MrRom92
03-11-2017, 02:48 PM
To be honest... hear me out here… I think I'd actually PREFER sampled audio for this game.. like, intentionally bad sampled audio. It just seems to fit the entire mood and aesthetic they're going for here. But my personal preferences aside, I agree it's totally weird that the kickstarter goal was hit but there's really been no indication whatsoever that we'll actually get it. A day 1 release on a Nintendo console was also one of those stretch goals and even though they moved the title to the Switch, it doesn't look like it'll be getting a day 1 release for us either, and I presume Nintendo console owners are who primarily backed this… if there's a day 1 release for all the other consoles but nobody actually gets it, is it still a day one release? lmao

Also, shame on Laced for not providing lossless downloads. What year is it again? Doesn't give me high hopes for this release at all, the impression I get is that they really don't know what they're doing as a label. Guarantee you the vinyl ends up having cookie cutter style mastering straight out of GZ hahah

Hello, that was an issue with a previous rip. The Wav and 0tmp58)58.flac are the same song. Just rename the flac one and delete wav one.

By the time I noticed I had already uploaded the file. Won't reupload it for something so simple...

Looking for Shantae: Risky's Revenge. Heard Vegeta might have it but there's no mention of a link anywhere.

Does anyone know if there was/is a Chrono Cross orchestral/fan-not-SNES sounding album(s) out?

I'd love to hear some different takes on the OP for CC.
-This is probably the wrong thread, but, fuck it.

Have you tried googling Chrono Cross orchestral or Chrono Cross remix?

Fully aware this just came out yesterday, but does anybody have the Lola/Roro Gunvolt 2 Vocal OST?
http://vgmdb.net/album/66563
If not, is there anyone here who either has ordered it or is planning to get it? Much appreciated, me and my friends are super excited for this!

Hey all, I'm looking for these albums to complete my collection:

• Chrono Cross OST
• Square Enix Music Sampler Vol.1
• Square Enix Music Sampler Vol.11
• Timeless Tomorrow: Final Fantasy Legends Mini Album
• Final Fantasy Record Keeper OST
• Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Arranged OST (I believe only a game rip is available as I have it in MP3, but the ripper did a really awesome job to include all 3 movements into the tracks. Hoping to get lossless :))

Many thanks to everyone here! :D

There are search functions and google. This isn't a request thread, just sayin. None of those looks too rare.

The MP3s are easy to find, but lossless has been a bit harder despite them being semi-common OSTs. I've been googling the everloving **** out of these albums and can't come up with anything worthwhile. EmuParadise has some FLAC albums, but they are not trustworthy at all.

Jessie's link for Chrono Cross is down, same with Hikaru's SE Sampler and Record Keeper links. Didn't mean to be a bother. I was hoping someone had some updated links for these.

He's/She's newbie so it needed their soundtrack without knowing anything...

• Chrono Cross OST - https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3406916
• Square Enix Music Sampler Vol.11 + Final Fantasy Record Keeper OST - Thread 209701 (Almost all FF music)

Btw if you want albums whose links are dead, join dchub://vgmcentral.no-ip.com:411/ (you need a software named dc++) and search for a user named blackheart. It's almost as if he has made a complete mirror of everything ever posted here on ffshrine. He goes on this forum by the name of zaizaizai(http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=260683)
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/

Always remember: This list is not the only place to find links in this forum. If you can't find a game here, use the search function (you know, the thing in the upper-right corner). Best use "Advanced Search - Search Single Content Type" and search for "Thread". If that won't yield any results, search for "Posts" instead. There might be many entries just mentioning the game's name but not the links, but it might give you some links if you're lucky.
if all else fails, feel free to politely ask if someone has the soundtrack you're looking for. You can do this here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/game-film-tv-anime-music-requests/) or in this thread.
So yeah you can post requests here but posting requests for common osts like chrono or dbz looks stupid really.

If you don't know where to find lossless, besides the advice given above, also remember to check Nyaa and BakaBT (and Tokyo Toshokan) there are public good ressources ;) (bakaBT only has anime music I think, Nyaa has got anime and more)

edit: that's very nice advice about that dcpp user, a useful reminder :) (I didn't know)
