Here are the original soundtrack and arranged album for Shovel Knight. Ive added two versions of the OST; the original mono soundtrack, plus the stereo soundtrack ripped and edited by myself from the NSF file. This stereo rip has resulted in the highest possible audio quality & fidelity you can acquire this great score in!! So please get it, Im sure youll be astounded by the differences in quality between the original mono and 48khz stereo sound of the rip ;)
(and for those who prefer the more hardcore retro sound of mono can enjoy that as well)
There is a line-in rip on the forums as well, but as usually is the case with line-in rips this results in much a lesser quality rip. No disrespect to the other ripper at all, but thats just the truth ;)

Someone have this 2 albums (

Also... I'm the only one having problems with part 1 of Sekaiju no MeiQ⁴ *denshou no kyoshin* Original Soundtrack (

The link for part 2 and Super Arrange Version works OK, but when I click part 1 the download never start (a least for me).
First believe it was a temporal server issue, but apparenlty doesn't fix (I been trying that link since 2.5 weeks ago).

Can anyone upload for me the European OST for Majora's Mask (
http://vgmdb.net/album/16426) in FLAC format? (And note to mods: You may want to remove the link to this OST on the front page, as the download links no longer work.)
Also, while I'm here, does anyone know of a good program to use for track gain on FLAC (i.e. getting all my FLAC files to have the same volume level)? I used to have something like that on my old laptop, but that was for MP3s.
Thanks!

Yes, german version has longer loops for most of the area tracks, Japanese has the complete soundtrack, and us Americans got screwed.

The European version is the worst because it clips:
3591540 | The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Original Soundtrack - VGMdb (
http://vgmdb.net/album/16426)
The other copies I have are two versions with the same tracks, but one is louder (and clearer? The shapes of the peaks seem thinner) than the other. The louder one is Japanese, and I'm guessing the quieter one is some reprint.
Japanese:
PICA-2006 | The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Original Soundtrack - VGMdb (

Reprint?:
PICA-2006 | The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Game Music Soundtrack CD... - VGMdb (

81454A | The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Official Soundtrack - VGMdb (

I'm guessing the Japanese one (or two?) is the best.

Use this plugin:

Download the GBS files. Pokemon Yellow features the first generation in stereo. Pokemon Crystal should also be in stereo, but Game Freak unfortunately chose to make the battle music mono for the second generation:

I wouldn't recommend altering the files volume level, it's better to use an external source to change the volume levels instead. Normalization is a bad thing.

Yeah, it's a pretty good arranged album, I especially like the remix by coda.
There's lots more stuff coming for Shovel Knight though, like a story campaign where you'll control one of the bosses. Plus there are all sorts of rumours that SK will come to the other consoles......so I'm sure a sequel is likely.

No, it's not the truth, maybe you didn't get undesired noise from the real hardware, but you didn't get the real sound of the hardware, no matter how good is the emulation, it will never deliver the same sound. Even the author of the music has promised a hardware line-in rip in the future for the sake of quality. Saying an emulator sound is better than the real hardware is like saying a cheap violin sounds better than a Stradivarius.

Ahh, the good old Saturn, no emulation can ever deliver that particular sound, it's been quite a tough one to emulate because of its dual FM and PCM capabilities.

I thought NSF's were established as being of the highest quality, even outdoing the console itself in terms of quality....or am I thinking of SPC's?
no matter how good is the emulation, it will never deliver the same sound
I can imagine the same thing was said of digital audio up until the Nyquist theorem and all that. Actually I'd guess it's still true, technically; no recording of an orchestra is ever the same as actually being there, but that has more to do with positioning and reverb and all that jazz.

That's why I included the mono OST, for guys like you! ;)
All the points you're making are quite irrelevant, since the soundtrack was created with Famitracker and was never intended to sound like a real NES. Sure, they wanted to get close to the NES sound, but the Wii U or 3DS can never exactly create the NES sound either. The sounds were created by emulation in the first place ;)
I only said the sound quality was extremely high, I never said it was the most original sounding quality. And in my opinion most line-in rips just sound bad, you also have to take in account the recording device. Most A/D convertors aren't up to snuff, so getting that original sound, while still sounding exactly the same is hard to achieve, you'll need some pretty high standard recording hardware.

Nice, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Recording at 96khz/24 bit is a bit overkill though. The Genesis's FM soundchip outputs it's sound at 32khz/16bit. So you don't really gain much from those huge 96/24 FLAC files.
I really applaud these guys for doing this though. They've had the most trouble emulating the sound of the Genesis thus far, so this is great for the FM audiophiles! :D

Alrighty then......here's the Sega Saturn gamerip of Lunar 2 Eternal Blue (Complete). Which has a differently sounding score when compared to the PS1 version. While the Saturn version used prerecorded high-end synthesizers compressed into 22khz ADX files, the PS1 used the PS1 PSU to reproduce the same tunes (at 44.1khz) with different samples (instruments).
Listen for yourself if you prefer these Saturn versions over the generally better known PS1 version (I'm guessing). While the PS1 tracks sound a lot clearer and more like CD-quality audio. The Saturn version definitely sounds a lot warmer, albeit a bit muffled (because natively they're only 22khz, I did resample to 44.1 khz so that people won't have any trouble playing them in audio players that seem to have trouble handling lower sample frequencies).
I had to go back to the original gamediscs to find about 9 tracks that were missing from the extracted rip I found on the net (plus one damaged file, which I found intact, ofcourse, on the gamedisc), so it was a bit of hassle going through all the files and comparing everything (the psf/playstation rip that's out there was a lot of help!), but I really like the outcome.
Enjoy!
(The Saturn version of Lunar Silver Star Story I'll do somewhere later in the week, since I finished this earlier then I thought initially)

I had to go back to the original gamediscs to find about 9 tracks that were missing from the extracted rip I found on the net (plus one damaged file, which I found intact, ofcourse, on the gamedisc), so it was a bit of hassle going through all the files and comparing everything (the psf/playstation rip that out there was a lot of help!), but I really like the outcome.
Enjoy!
(The Saturn version of Lunar Silver Star Story I'll do somewhere later in the week, since I finished this earlier then I thought initially)
I can't thank you enough for sharing the Sega Saturn version !!! I'm a big fan of lunar series and Noriyuki Iwadare's work in general.
I prefer this version than the PS1.
Thanks a lot ! <3

Here we have two albums which were made today as if the Super Nintendo was still in it’s prime. The composer took his inspiration from games like Final Fantasy IV & VI, Super Metroid, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and Alcahest. The samples/instruments he used were also taken straight from these game, albeit used for these completely new compositions.
These are two pretty well done albums and bring up a lot of nostalgia for the Super Nintendo and all it’s classic RPG’s from the past (and action adventure games, like Super Metroid). Every song tells you in it’s song title which game the composer drew his inspiration from.

I know we're getting all a bit technical here, but I believe that's the clockspeed of the soundchip you're mentioning, not the the sample rate. According to this the sample rate is actually 22khz (not 32khz as I always thought) and only the first model had this. Later models were downgraded:

I can almost reckon that you're probably talking about that certain "Ultimate Compilation" here somewhere. That's not what we were talking about at all.
Generally even Sonic CD 20th Anniversary (
http://vgmdb.net/album/29131) itself is a poorly produced album in the beginning. The actually took the Redbook track straight from the game's disc, wrapped them with ill-timed loops and fadings, then at last slapped a big lousy volume boost. They should've at least pick the tracks from instead Sonic CD Protoype 510, which doesn't have fades in the tracks and thus is easier for audio remanipulation.
The "Past" tracks in that album are remastered from unknown sources though, since Metallic Madness no longer have that infamous glitch in the beginning which is audible in the Sonic CD PC version (not the new one, the older release for Windows 9X, contains Redbook US soundtracks and the Past tracks).

I know we're getting all a bit technical here, but I believe that's the clockspeed of the soundchip you're mentioning, not the the sample rate.
You're exactly right. I'm sorry for posting garbage information. My point is that the YM2612's actual sample rate is "very high," like greater than 48000 Hz, or greater than 96000 Hz high. I've heard that the 22000 Hz number you mention is the limit for the DAC channel's samples (Giant Bomb's information is wrong), which is mixed with the six FM channels using time-division multiplexing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_YM2612
What's the unit of time per channel? It's "super short" (I don't know). This divisor would allow us to calculate the sample rate from the clock speed: 7670445 / X = YM2612 sample rate.
Pretend the YM2612's output is digital. That pretend digital signal has to mix with the PSG chip's (pretend?) digital signal to produce the pretend digital signal that your soundcard receives. This is what emulators do because analog signals (YM2612 mixer output) cannot be emulated. Unavoidable enhancements like this are what make emulation exciting, because unlike hardware, software (logic) never degrades. The most pure emulator would be generic enough to allow you to insert any DAC components you like at the digital-to-analog boundaries.
Ah, the actual sample rate of the YM2612 in the Sega Genesis is 53267 Hz:

Unless when external API changes or new/different options are introduced, all builds should behave the same. So yeah.
Mare sure no one's attempting to drop a Win64 build on 32-bit Windows though.
Same applies to LAME and other codecs. But note that LAME is currently working on a new Constrained VBR mode, so the parameters might differ slightly.

Nowadays cellphones have a proper dac, that whereas not as good as my ex nwz F886, it is good enough for discerning mp3 quality vs Flac quality... Also...
As you can see my phone is one hell of a source now. Note that the people in this thread is here precisely because of high regard towards lossless music, regardless the source components (hell, I began to notice differences with my 1998 compaq 5253 computer with built in speakers because I didn't have access to nothing else at the time) this is not a thread to say "look I listen flac music better than you" if anything you can show how you listen to it, but that's it.
I'm highly educated in this matters too and all I can tell you is that out there, there is people that really has money to spare to have the best high end audio equipment... Only to connect their ipod by Bluetooth to conveniently play music. That's precisely what this thread isn't about.
P. S. Chip tunes produce all sorts of armonics in a lot of frequencies because their waveforms are not natural... Just look at the fft of an square or triangular chiptune signal, that thing produces easily a sin(x) /x spectrum, and I bet you, that covers quite a lot of frequencies that can be easily suppressed by mp3 format.

Also the reason because I use poweramp greatly is because both phone and dac are hidden on a backpack, but I can control and see music reproduction using the SBH-52, that only poweramp so far offers me the option to advance folders and tracks with it. Chameleon Kid is a very good game ! Got it at some christmas a long while ago, it was the japanese version because the game wasn't planned for release in the west at that time. We had to use an adapter which cost a lot to play it (Pal territory here). But it was great great fun. And to this day I still listen to some of the tracks from this game. My favourite is "Opening Theme / Ice Area" it simply kicks asses !

I had to get Strange Journey OST because it's very different from what Meguro does usually (Listen to this battle theme for instance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYVXdQQoAcc). Ragnarok Online Complete Soundtrack will revive memories playing my first MMORPG, and the music was and still is tremendous and holds up today.

The Regi trio's theme from Pokemon Platinum never saw the light of day in the music collections, since Platinum didn't have one, and it wasn't included on the disc 4 of the Black 2 White 2 one, probably because the regi already had their theme in black 2 and white 2 remixed again...

Nowadays cellphones have a proper dac, that whereas not as good as my ex nwz F886, it is good enough for discerning mp3 quality vs Flac quality... Also...
...
You have got to be joking. Some devices have adequate DACs, but even so, there are noise reducing DSP functions applied prior to output to remove electrical noise generated from the other electronics on the phone. Also different brands sound different. Take a guess why.
As you can see my phone is one hell of a source now. Note that the people in this thread is here precisely because of high regard towards lossless music, regardless the source components (hell, I began to notice differences with my 1998 compaq 5253 computer with built in speakers because I didn't have access to nothing else at the time) this is not a thread to say "look I listen flac music better than you" if anything you can show how you listen to it, but that's it.
...
Phones and MP3s or FLACs, or whatever, are fine when you're out and about. It's actually when you hook up your phone to a serious amplifier & speaker set-up in a quiet room that you notice how shit it really is. What's needed is a digital port, so that a proper DAC can be used, not the Mickey Mouse one that's built in to the phone.
If you say so.
zozo23
07-24-2014, 08:56 PM
I wouldn't play flac off my phone the files are too large and it kills battery way faster than a small 128kbps mp3 file. Save lossless for nice home speakers.

@theone2000
I agree that using a phone whichever it is to hook it up on high-end audio equipment would be... funny at best.
I personally only use my phone when I'm "out and about". At home I listen to music on my computer (equipped with a so-so XFI-Titanium HD, which has horrible drivers that can crash if you go through settings too fast) through a pair of HD598's (I can't use any other headphones, they're the comfiest I've ever had, and I can't bear wearing closed-ear headphones because I feel dizzy with them :s).
But the real problem with my set up is that my computer emits a lot of noise. I replaced all fans with low-noise ones, but I'm still around 34 dB @1M which is awful so I have to crank up the volume a bit.
One day I'll have enough money for a dedicated FLAC HiFi Player hooked up digitally to a good dac/amplifier. But until then it's all about compromises.

Or you can take the route Arceles took, buying a Sony PHA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier with DAC to plug a compatible device into. But that's like going out with a brick in your pocket, and would only be worthwhile if using expensive headphones, not the in-ear type which are more practical. Indoors, it's a different story obviously.

Would anyone mind re-upping the Okamiden soundtrack (

Great album.
So any chance uploading scans of albums that are either non existent or of low quality? (Diddy Kong Racing, Super Mario Fun with Beyer, etc...).
Nothing fancy (you don't have to splice pages if album has a folded booklet, they can be scanned page by page), Yoshi's Island scans at VGMDB are pretty bad (from 2006).
Thanks.
This good?
Scans are on VGMdb now.. Only things I didnt do is front sticker (cuz I don't have the factory shrinkwrap lol), and the Registration Card (yes I have it, but they all look the same anyway).

Hmmmm let us see...
You have got to be joking. Some devices have adequate DACs, but even so, there are noise reducing DSP functions applied prior to output to remove electrical noise generated from the other electronics on the phone. Also different brands sound different. Take a guess why.
I'm talking about my experience using android devices for music since they first appeared (I have a Google G1 right beside me yet as an alarm clock), also note that for most of the time I use custom roms on my phone and I always choose to disable any possible sound enhancements "built-in" (beats for example, that thing has been present even on laptops), I don't even like to use the so called viper4android, the only thing I use is the EQ given on poweramp. I still can tell you that the difference is perceptible between flac and mp3 (and you don't even need a very new device for this, as I said before, I used to hear differences from a very old computer compaq 5253, I didn't even had a buffer back then), it has to do more with the fact that the MP3 sounds like a low pass filter or muffled sound (as it is... since it cut frequencies) compared to flac.
No, that's how many people say it must be but no, this is only a bit of elitist people telling that only the best sound can be attained with a high-fi setup that only can be put into a room. Sound is already a very subjective matter per see, but I still insist that you can still go mobile and hear full differences and appreciate the sound without actually spending loads on big equipment. Also mobile dacs tend to have a bit of more preference since they are battery driven, which has zero AC ripple on them (zero as in nothing compared to devices plugged to AC, which you can really supress the ripple to an extend, but never remove entirely)
If you say so.
Yeah, I really say so and I hold it, look at fft of square or triangular signals in google, fourier doesn't lies as is proven math.

In the same post you claim "phones nowadays have proper DACs", and in the same post you put up a picture of a portable Sony DAC connected to your phone. Hello?
Arceles
07-25-2014, 11:31 AM
Yeah, I said "proper dac" as in "good enough", which was again to counter the argument of Yishai about how phones will never allow you to discern Flac vs lossy formats differences. I have my PHA-2 because whilst format differences can be heard with proper dacs, I like the fact that soundstage and bass precision can be enhanced by using an external DAC like this one.

I disagree with you @Arigeitsu159 I like to share / read here experiences with an album or piece of gear, as long as it is Lossless / Vgm related. Of course the drama is not welcome.
I'm pretty sure a thread with only releases would be boring. I for one would not like to have to post in another thread about something I saw in the main thread I'm interested in.
Of course should there be a strict "only releases" rule I'd have to abide by it...

It is alright to keep this thread as much as possibly dedicated to lossless music, or any other constructive related matters. I, however, will have something to say against any comment that intents to diminish other members posts, shielded by "apparent knowledge". It is not the first time that happens and probably won't be the last, interestingly enough it doesn't happens only with music; as I remember not too long ago also some members diminishing other's computers, under the pretext that they had an i5 processor... It never ends, as in "what I have is better because I say so", this is the internet... and I find no reason to compete in here.

I for one have no idea why you made this post.

I decided to try out a DAC compatible with Android devices so I bought the "FiiO Kunlun e18".
I like it a lot. With my headphones I have to set Gain to High and the volume knob to 5-7 to my taste.
There is a "Bass" button, which is cool. It can be plugged into a PC too.
There are 3 buttons on the side which are "Next", "Forward", and "Pause/Play". They work on Android but that's a given since it's touted to be compatible with google's mobile OS.
Small plus, it can act as a battery to charge your device on the go if you don't want to use the DAC as a DAC that day :)
Pics and (somewhat) black cat included
Another pic showing the set up (Tablet = Asus TF701T, Headphones = Sennheiser HD598, Cat = Don't mind me /meow/ :3).
Sound-wise it's an improvement over my Tablet's sound that's for sure.
After listening to the e18 I plugged my headphones back to the tablet's jack and it sounded hollow and narrow (only words that seem to fit with what I hear but hey music is very subjective !)
I listened to the following for the test :
Some metal tracks including one from Wintersun 's "Time I" album.
Some chiptune tracks including some from Zef 's "Blackout" album (which is incredible btw).
VGM-wise I tried tracks from the Monster World OST Collection, Joe Musashi Music Collection, some Xenosaga III OST tracks including my favourite : Promised Pain (battle against Zarathustra if I recall correctly), one track from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Vocal Tracks which is "Collective Conciousness" (battle against Metal Gear Excelsus)... etc

Best I can find on the internet is 160kb/s mp3s. If anyone happens to have a lossless version available, I'd be very thankful.

Unbelievable! All I did was to point how pointless it is to create huge FLAC files from tiny data rips after an imitation of the real "performer" played that data. Now it became about a Frankestein cellphone and how it drains its cell to play those huge FLAC files through mere earbuds to enjoy lossless music in the middle of city traffic and even some Grammar Nazis have joined in.
Do we need the mods to close the thread again for the 6th or 7th time in order to get back to the sharing? I'm even having second thoughts of making requests or congratulating Vegeta for such awesome purchases.

Also what's up with the use of the word "Nazi" associated with things that have no link whatsoever to that tyrannic regime ? Please refrain from using this "expression". I prefer using expressions like "Grammar Police". It works and isn't as offensive.

That which you describe is often referred as sound stage, which has become wider due an "apparent" 3d instrument expansion. Just be sure to wear fitting earbuds with it to ignore any possible external sounds on the streets and you are good to go :)

:P Calm down, the storm has passed (I think)
I do hope that the "storm" passed. In that context the word you were so offended with was not to say that someone with bad grammar is a jew and that it will be exterminated, it was because of the totalitarian regime it was. Calm down, it was not to offend anyone, it was just an expression.
Now I guess I just started a series of posts about the Nazis, offensive words, and whatnot but lossless VGM sharing. I better stop posting anything before this thread is closed, again.
Edit: while I was writing this, we passed the eye of the storm.
Hah, he told you to calm down and now you're telling him to calm down... ^___^
No but what's up with fear of closing this thread? It's not like it has to be a perfectly clean database, it's always been a little cumbersome. If you're not interested in something then just skip it. That's what I do. Unless there's some serious disturbance going on, or some vicious verbal fighting then there's no need to tell those people to knock it off. Let them discuss, you don't have to be a part of it. The large pictures issue has already been addressed, everything else was more or less on topic, so what's the big deal?

Something like 2900 out of 3600 reviews were 5 star, 480 were four star, and the other 12% were 3 or less stars. Because first, this thread is specifically for lossless, and MP3 is lossy. Second, even if you were free to choose any file type, no one would want MP3 files.
It's like asking why there are only HD versions of a movie you want, rather than AVI files.

4thMIX is one of my favorite releases as it contains lots of soul music possibly the most in any DDR release. The iconic "BABY BABY GIMME YOUR LOVE" features in all its glory. This is also TaQ's first debut in the series with his kick ass song "holic", a song way to advance for its time, which further cements he was not from this planet. dj TAKA youth hits such as ".59" and "Don't Stop" also appear here. The Toshiba-EMI remix team on disc 2 did a very, very nice job in the non-stop remix portion, you can listen through it all without skipping tracks (well except the E-ROTIC songs) and all the songs were balanced in sequence.
Feel free to drop a comment on any songs that you like or hated i know you guys have it in your thoughts but it would be cool to hear from you guys.

Hi!
MiL: Would it be possible to get a repost of the three Blade Runner soundtracks from the original Lossless Video Game Soundtracks thread? The links no longer work, and I would love to have these!
Thanks

I believe that the people of OCRemix are not thrilled that you distribute the album for free here. Or I'm wrong? lol

MiL: Yes, exactly those!
Awesome, thank you very much!
Edit; If anyone should be so lucky to own a copy, I am also looking for a flac version of the
Paul Weir - Discworld Noir soundtrack promo cd(not gamerip) that was distributed along with some versions of the game.

Notes:
Managed to find the FLAC (lossless) version of the album. The one previously posted (link (
Thread 141222)) had a lot of "blips" in the tracks. For example; Tracks 4, 9 (around 155), 10 ,11 (at 230), 14 all had these "blips" / pops). The FLAC version is free of them.

Here, have some EVEN EVEN FASTER FLAC builds (
http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=101082&view=findpost&p=870505).
It'll be quite hopeful for a new official point release to include all the recent improvements.
