Flac is used even with "3DS compression", because if you transcode something already transcoded, you loose information. This has been debated quite a bit of times already as well.

My point is, the sonic quality of this game isn't enough to justify a FLAC encode, and I'm telling you this, and I love FLAC for everything.

But it wouldn't be transcoded from 3ds to mp3, it would be whatever format the audio cd uses to mp3.

Okay, I can agree that there's no point to a FLAC version of the gamerip because of how shit the quality is.
HOWEVER! I was playing this game last night on my 3DS with headphones and it did NOT sound this bad. I think the gamerip is bad and not the game's actual audio. I'll do a direct comparison for myself tonight by listening to a track on 3DS and then the same track on my computer, using the same headphones and without eq, and confirm if the gamerip indeed does sound worse than the 3DS and will post here. If I don't, please someone remind me, I'm just writing an exam tonight so might pass out afterward :P

dude, a full ost would be like 6-8 cds. no way are they doing that. especially as a free bonus/handout product
if they were gonna do it full it would need its own separate release and a 100ish dollar price tag to make it feasible

I meant full in that I hope it will at least be a full disc (like TWW HD's OST), preferrably a double disc--which they did with the free SSB OST promo earlier this year. I know it won't contain everything obviously.

I don't live in the US so I'm pretty much screwed, and even still, I've heard many a story of people camping out the night before an amiibo releases just so they can pick one up, and STILL leaving empty-handed.

Importing, buying online.. You just can't know for sure the condition of the items you buy online, and for collectors, if there's so much as a tiny crease in the corner of the box, the item becomes worthless and another one will have to be bought.
Personally, if I can't buy it at a store, I say screw it. Good thing there's something called an amiiqo for people in my situation. :P
Also, Prime isn't available everywhere.
EDIT: God dammit Kalas, you beat me :P
Also, shipping, currency conversion and import charges will more than double the cost of an amiibo for me if I were to buy online.

It seems that the MP3 has more quality than the AT3 one, but I couldn't "hear" any difference. Well, at least it got some frequences that the AT3 don't, as you can see in the spectrograms. I converted the AT3 file to WAV with foobar, I think it's lossless as it's in the PSP native music format, isn't it? It would help if you can explain the origins of them. And, of course, some more experienced member could tell more, I'm really newbie at spectrograms, there's some things I still can't understand.

Is the mp3 version pulled directly from the game? That cutoff looks very low for 256kbps. The AT3 looks "fuller" I guess you could say, but what's kept above the cutoff is so negligible that they may as well be the same. If you can find something to so zoom in with, you can check the compression blocks just to see how bad it actually is, but otherwise you're going to have to go by ear on this one.

Apparently some people think they can give me their email without an account on MEGA, and still get access. It is very important you have an account first, because if I try to add someone without an account, they won't be able to see anything for at least 3-4 days.

Yeah the mp3 is right out of the game. I was surprised to find it using an open format too. I really can't hear any sort of audible difference. I guess ill just use the at3s if you think they are betterMP3 isn't an open format, and whilst licensing restrictions are fairly lax the Fraunhofer Institute (who developed it) have still taken in hundreds of millions of dollars in licence fees over the years - if you were wondering why you see ogg audio files crop up in games where you might expect MP3 instead, now you know why. AT3 will be ATRAC3, Sony's proprietary audio codec, which isn't a lossless format, and is a far less open format than MP3, but Sony have tended to force it down people's necks at any opportunity so it's not surprising to see it pop up in PSP games. (Sony once released a portable digital music player, a competitor to the early iPods, that only played ATRAC-encoded music files, not MP3. Yeah, that actually happened. Unsurprisingly, it didn't sell well.)
I strongly suspect with those MP3/AT3 files that the 256kbps MP3s have been transcoded from the lower bitrate AT3 files. This will be due to the sound driver of the HD port supporting MP3 and not AT3. In theory the MP3s should sound slightly worse (lossy-to-lossy transcoding always introduces some loss), but in practice at 256kbps with a modern MP3 encoder you won't hear a difference.

Mp3 you can hear differences if you really pay attention... however, AC3 and even AT3 are quite difficult to discern. In Mp3 you mostly hear the frequency cut off as muffled sound, plus artifacts generated due compresion, on AT3 and AC3 it is just artifacts and they are quite difficult to discern. The whole reason I went FLAC so long ago, is because of two reasons: It heard gorgeous on my old 2.1 system and it made AT3 files to be soo much beter than mp3.

Well now you can. If you are a current subscriber to my collection, PM me and I can give you access to these albums (there maybe some duplicates, but that should be ok right?).

All links from ffshrine, especially those old ones. So, go to the 1rst page, take a link, paste in the converter page, then click on the "No link available" or simply click anywhere on the page to lose the type focus, this will actualizing the link, and send you to the desired post.

Sure thing, I can give you the links that I've tried that are not working for me:
Star Ocean 4 - The Last Hope [This one works, but the file doesn't exist anymore unfortunately]
STAR OCEAN -THE LAST HOPE- Original Soundtrack
Star Ocean -The Last Hope- Arrange Soundtrack
Those three are the only ones in this thread's opening post that I could not get the links to work no matter what. I didn't check every link, but amongst the ones I did cycle through, these are it. Would be amazingly appreciative if you could fix those three if at all possible. Any of the FLAC OSTs that I have now, or grab in the future, will be saved in zip files in case people need them re-uploaded. It's only fair after all. At the moment I have just over 40 FLAC OSTs.

Does anyone have a lossless rip of Pokemon Rumble for Wiiware, or Rumble Blast for 3DS?
I don't care if they're properly named or not, I just want the files in their original quality, and extracting the wiiware's wad has been a nightmare.. Used a bunch of programs and only ended up with the sound effects as rwav format when I can clearly see the bgm in BrawlBox. For some reason the program I used to extract the brsar file ommits the bgm.

Is it just on my end, or does any of links I click on on the first pages' links redirect back to first page instead of the post they are meant to lead to? It's been doing that for some time now, but I'm just now posting about. I just gave up beforehand.
Also, can anyone reupload the "Pokemon Gameboy Sound Set", please? The link I found searching the site's posts are dead Hotfile links. Thanks in advance. :)
If someone could upload this, too, either/or, that would also be fine. :)

Use my converter so...
Here a converter for the links in "The Lossless Video Game Soundtrack Thread v2", just got to the index, copy the link, paste it in the converter, and then, you got a correct link to the post, no need to search or dig anymore.....

I just recently discovered a mobile game called Horizon Chase which is basically a modern, streamlined tribute to those old arcade racers if you ever played Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, Top Gear, Rush and Outrun, specifically more towards Lotus and Top Gear, anyway Barry Leitch the composer in Lotus and Top Gear did the soundtrack on Horizon Chase and I think its pretty great. Please, don't share this. I have the signed CD, registered it on VGMdb (
http://vgmdb.net/album/55622) and scanned it, and I didn't shared it because I know Barry Leitch, and he's a freelance composer who takes his living from his music. He printed all the CDs on his own, and earned very little from it. Horizon Chase will soon have a digital version of its soundtrack with all the songs on the CD plus almost 10 arranged tracks and for very cheap, just wait and when it's online, I send the link here.
There's no big company helping him, Aquiris (the game studio which made the game) is a very modest brazilian studio, and they're not earning lots of money with this. The OST is really cheap, so please, buy it and support Barry. He has children to take care, rent and bills to pay, only from the money he takes from his job as a VGM composer.

You're right, I also think the original composer wouldn't want me sharing, so I won't.
However I disagree with the sentiment that sharing = No sales. I've purchased many things that I didn't have to just out of principal (I'd say about 90% of all music I've ever purchased was indie music), and for the reason to help out, but Downloading or not downloading an album doesn't mean anyone is going to buy or not buy something, if they already decided what they would do. The soundtrack is already on Youtube, if music is all anyone cared about, its a simple process to rip those videos. I already have my favorites from the album on my phone as MP3s and I don't even have the actual CD yet, but I bought it anyway. Especially since the soundtrack is very niche, and hasn't received much attention, I believe sharing would have the opposite of a negative effect. No one is going to buy an album online if they know they're not going to like it.
But yeah, I disagree with your reasoning, at least in this circumstance, but I do agree that I should keep the composer's thoughts and feelings in mind, so I'll hold off on it.

While I agree with you, Im going to play the devil's advocate here for a minute. Those are our habits true, But our habbits and decisions may not represent those of the majority of other people. It is impossible to track the number of people who buy BECAUSE of sharing or the number of people who DONT buy because of sharing. Both certainly exist, but without knowing the numbers of both it is impossible to say for certain whether file sharing harms or helps the artists in question. Im here because I believe it is a customer's right to know what they are buying before they buy it, and because it forces artists to rely on quality over reputation, which are separate issues entirely. OUR file sharing may be beneficial, but im under no illusions that file sharing on the whole MAY ultimately reduce revenue

It's exactly what Son of Kalas said. Most people that interact here would listen and buy if they liked it, but there's also people who use this forum to get whatever they want and share in their own sites/forums/blogs, without even crediting, and I'm talking about these people. I live in a country that people wouldn't spend a dime if they could get at least an sluggish MP3 without SFX, and it would certainly harm the composer, because the game had much attention here on Brazil.
I just asked not to share, but it's up to up doing it or not. The same way that people could rip the MP3 from the videos, they can play the game and enjoy its music from there. It's not like they couldn't enjoy and listen to the music only if you shared here, but it's just my opinnion. Sharing via PM with some trusted people would also solve the problem.Well, at least I've already made my point clear.

Looks like the Indivisible stretch goal is going to hit 1.65mil before the campaign is even over.
That means we're getting 120-150 minutes of Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana, Koudelka, Soukaigi) music, without any 'looping' being counted. I'm really looking forward to this soundtrack.
Peter Bartholow from Lab Zero even stated that he's going to try to get Kikuta to do remixes of the guest character themes.
This means it's very possible you're going to get to hear Kikuta do remixes of Shantae, Hyper Light Drifter, Skullgirls, Shovel Knight, Curses 'n Chaos, Guacamelee, Transistor, Super Time Force and Battle Chasers main themes for the game.
(for context, FF7 had around 2 hours of music when not counting 'looped' parts of songs.)

Ocremix did a series of Christmas albums called
an overclocked Christmas volume 1,2,3 ETC
http://www.obtusemusic.net/OCR_Christmas/index.htm
Im not sure how many of them are available in lossless if any
I listened to a couple volumes while playing some games, pretty nice stuff you recommended, thanks!
Not going to claim mine are the best fits but:
Atelier Iris Eternal Mana - Village of Snow and Glass:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5zCPeJmgAs
The Capcom Christmas Album in general fits obviously.
Brave Fencer Musashiden - Snow Labrynth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTefaZXXBlo
End of Eternity - Square Garden-Red and Green B
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iId2SYq2b8c
Not sure this fits christmas theme, but it definitely fits winter:
Ys 1&2 Chronicles - Ice Ridge of Nolta:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8S76rk98uk
Tales of Graces - Frozen Heel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDr_zLn8fqI
Didn't have vol 3 in flac, thanks hikaru!
Thanks, I'll check them out, the first one was really nice :D

I'm sorry zaykho, but I don't get any Winter/Christmas vibes from this song, I only get Spring/Summer mainly Summer vibes from it. I don't know... I guess we have different opinions.
Besides, aren't there birds chirping in this song?

It's true, and there is an explanation for that: I come from an Island in Southern hemisphere (even I moved to [and live in] France now), and in Southern hemisphere, the seasons are inverted, In December (and Christmas) we are in summer, and in June/July in winter (if we can call this like that lol).
Also we only have 2 seasons: summer and Winter, no autumn, no Spring.
That's why, Christmas is more like the summer for me. (and ofc, in those countries, we never use the typical Christmas song, I mean, using a Winter snow-bell song in a 34C hot summer weather is little strange....) :p

Well, we don't have "traditional" song for Christmas, simply because Christmas was created mainly in the European culture, nobody here did try one day: "hey! let's create a song/santa claus for our Hot Christmas version" :p
Still, we have also a lot of different ethnic, see here (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9union), that mean that some people will listen some sega maloya (a type of music I hate if you ask me, and, no, it's not related to SEGA lol), others some chinese songs, or even traditional India song (like those used in Dipavali) etc....
So, in fact, we don't have any real "alternative" to the snow-bell Christmas song, Christmas for us is just about eating/gift (well, we love eating here :p ), no ceremonial or thematic things....

It's not like they couldn't enjoy and listen to the music only if you shared here, but it's just my opinion. Sharing via PM with some trusted people would also solve the problem. Well, at least I've already made my point clear.I don't know whats right then. I wanted to payback the generosity of the sharers in this thread with something they didn't already have themselves. Which is pretty hard to do. Why open, rip, and share my Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts albums to name a few when they're already here.
Anyway, without going on a tangent, the CD got here much, much sooner than I expected, Ive played it twice over already and love it alot. I like that most the album is almost interconnected throughout with a general theme, as well as resonance to past themes that are now 20-25 years old. Leitch did a great job modernizing his more retro work. Leitch hasn't had such an expansive career of the likes of Kondo, Mitsuda, Shimomura, Sakimoto, Kirkhope, Williams, Wise, Mitsuyoshi, etc... but what he's done sounds very unique to himself and consistent in style. He's very-much king of the retro late 80's early 90's arcade racers in my opinion and Horizon Chases' soundtrack very much reflects that. But I already knew all of this before I got the album, as I said earlier, 90% of the album is already available on the internet as mp3
http://www.horizonchase.com/# ,
http://www.gameaudioacademy.com/horizonchase/ , and
https://www.youtube.com/user/semideadmorto/videos , all but 3 tracks thats still only on the soundtrack, 2 of which are related to Leitch's proposal he put in the game for his now-future wife, and last one missing is the one in this trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrfuIKYrfyQ
So I made this post for one reason, as stated earlier, I don't open and rip soundtracks that were already available here, and 90% of what I do buy are digital, no CD needed; So I don't have alot of experience ripping CD's myself, I installed EAC, and ripped as a compressed rip, but I got WAV not FLAC, if it were just me, no big deal, I could easily convert WAV to FLAC or MP3 and enjoy on my phone with a better DAC than my computer, BUT I actually do still intend to share with you guys, specifically people with posts over 100, ideally people here with a history of sharing who are interested, for if not for them, my lossless collection wouldn't have been possible. However others are picky (this isnt a bad thing, picky is good when it comes to lossless), some of you guys want things like logs and specific rip settings, which I'd be happy to oblige if someone can link me their preferred method of ripping. I know that alot of lossless collecting isn't just about the music, its about archiving and collection filling. I too also want to rip my own CD the proper way and add it to my digital collection while storing the hardcopy on my shelf. So if someone could link me a proper rip tutorial, I would soon be able to fill in download requests.

I have a question.
My apologies if this may have been asked here before but with over 400 pages in this thread, searching for it might be a chore.
Why do people ask for cue and log files when obtaining a rip of an album? I'm not asking because I think people are "dumb" for asking for it, I just have no clue what those files are used for and what it's purpose is.
Similarly, I have no idea what md5 files are either. If anyone can explain this for me, that'd be awesome :D

Im not 100% myself but as far as I know,
The log files are basically logs of the process of ripping the cd (which is why digital purchases don't have them)
They list any errors (or lack thereof) that may have happened in the files during the rip process

In an absolutely NOT-technical way: half of the importance of .cue files comes from the fact they are needed if you plan to burn/write an exact copy of the rip to a CD, why? They store "information" about gaps, among other things. The other half is that they're pretty much needed for a correct playback of "image/range" rips.
EDIT:
In short, .cue files allow you to recreate the original CD, provided it has been ripped correctly, of course.

wouldn't some sort of specialized Iso compression system be more effective?
something that compresses the CD audio losslessly to the same degree as flac but retains the cd's gaps and metadata by virtue of being an ISO?
Its not as though you are listening to the gaps, so you could store it as Iso for accuracy's sake but convert to flac or use mounting software for listening

Thanks for the explanation Leon!
Is that way some people prefer just dragging the .cue file into their player of choice instead of the actual files? So that the .cue will structure the music the way it was on the CD orginally?

Flac can actually embed the cue, artwork and other metadata into itself. You could actually could have an entire album with his cuesheet, artwork and relevant information into a single flac file!
Thing is considering how media managers and most players works nowadays is more convenient to follow the "file per song" criteria. It's also better to have everything splitted to be able to fetch only required files when needed and not the whole thing.

Hm. I've never tried to compress audio CD/Other media as ISO, personally, I think it might work?

In a way, you can think of the .cue file as some sort of map/layout: it either instructs software like foobar2000 on how to "play" that big audio track, or on how the audio data needs to be written/stored.
Personally, I'm a fan of the .cue+range/image kind of rip, it looks way more neat than a shitload of tracks.

Been looking for the "Ryu Ga Gotoku and Ryu Ga Gotoku 2" (Yakuza & Yakuza 2)Soundtrack that was released in 2007. I found them in mp3 form but I'd like them in lossless form. I'd be very appreciative if someone can point me in the right direction.

Hm. I've never tried to compress audio CD/Other media as ISO, personally, I think it might work?It would work but would be as "accurate" as just converting the files in Foobar, i.e. you'd lose all the gaps, metadata etc. Ripping audio from audio CDs is easy; ripping them accurately is hard. That's why we have EAC, AccurateRip and all that.
wouldn't some sort of specialized Iso compression system be more effective?A "specialised ISO compression system" is exactly what an image rip is. They're a nuisance in my opinion, but each to their own.
Similarly, I have no idea what md5 files are either. If anyone can explain this for me, that'd be awesome :DMD5 is an algorithm that can be used to take files as an input and spit out a short string of characters. If the file gets changed at all, the resulting MD5 hash (the string of characters) will be completely and unpredictably different. So it's very useful for checking file integrity - I send you a file, we both check the MD5 hash, and if it's the same, we can be confident that the transfer was error-free. If a 0 turns to a 1 along the way, even if happens just once, our MD5 hashes won't match at all.

Thank you for explaining this!
From what you're explaining, MD5's seem awesome. A great way to cross-reference that people accurately got the same file. How exactly do you go about checking MD5's?

Hey, the links posted by the OP in the first few posts in the thread do not work. Every single link just redirects to the first post of the thread. Is there a way to resolve this? It's very annoying, because this thread is gigantic and the search function on these forums is pretty difficult to use efficiently.

Use my converter so...
Here a converter for the links in "The Lossless Video Game Soundtrack Thread v2", just got to the index, copy the link, paste it in the converter, and then, you got a correct link to the post, no need to search or dig anymore.....
