Akashi San's rip, re-up. His write-up:

Akashi San (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/lossless-video-game-soundtrack-thread-v2-126974/11.html#post2276574): "So, what is this? This is a Talesweaver (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=TalesWeaver&oldid=561623703) BGM arrangement album by Vanilla Mood, a group of four girls who possess formidable skills with their respective instruments (violin, flute, piano, cello). Every piece here is arranged to a degree where it stands alone magnificently while retaining some elements of "RPG music". Although some people may dismiss this as "cheesy," I think this is a melodic, heartfelt album where you can see these kawaii girls () put a lot of effort into the arrangement. The album also features a piece that is based on Borodin's Polovtsian dance from Prince Igor. :D

My rip in FLAC. Enjoy!"

Off course this is a highly personal opinion but yes. It is that good. I was completely taken by surprise. Absolutely fantastic and it's really hard to give the game justice through mere words.

It was the one in Stockton some years ago, though they're usually a better bet for Japanese stuff than the SF store. I haven't been to the Berkley one fo ra while but you might get lucky there. I hear Fresno is a huge location, but haven't been able to check it out. Where up here are you going to be? When?

It's dark, very dark. I had to control it with PowerAmp, but after that... the bass became extremely precise. A tiny bit more of soundstage than my XBA-30, but here the bass is the one that takes the price. Also, Originally they were at 400 pounds (Hell!) but they are quite heavily discounted at amazon at 168 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FB5DEQG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, that's why I pulled the trigger.

Since I've gotten oodles and oodles of great stuff from this thread I thought it was about time I started contributing some of my VGM collection. I don't believe these have been shared here before:

This is an arranged album, with some added original content. Composed by famous Commodore 64 composer Jeroen Tel. The Robocop3, Lethal Weapon 3, Alien 3, Bram Stoker's Dracula & Technocop tracks are all arranged from original chiptunes created for games released (some unreleased) on the NES and Master System. These are the big attraction of this album, the other tracks aren't that good (although Jeroen Tel has nowadays composed some awesome dance music). Highly recommended!!!!

For those that are curious, this is a collection of the original chiptunes from which the above arranged album originated from:

This is a collection of Commodore 64 tracks performed by an orchestra. Composed by Rob Hubbard and Jeroen Tel, two of the most famous names from the Commodore 64 days (together with Tim Follin, but he isn't on this, sadly). Arranged/orchestrated by Rob Hubbard himself. The second CD contains the original C64 music. There's some great stuff here, especially the tracks from "Myth"!!!!

I have a question, is this the same one that was ripped improperly?

Final Fantasy X-2 has a lossless ost out there (the one i have unfortunately is this rip, you can check it if you want in track 17 on disc 2, between 0:05 and 0:15 there is an audio glitch specifically that i notice, but off the top of my head half the tracks have them) that has data errors and in some cases, missing instruments, if this one does not have those glitches i would like to request it as well.

Makai Senki Disgaea is an outstanding series, and the music is gorgeous. I wonder why the soundtracks aren't more widespread :0

it actually depends on the person itself if he\she lived thruogh the disgaea series's also not to mention the personality of the gamer itself , i dont wanna go all "Psychiatrist" here but at any rate disgaea is something i cannot explain but i would say THANK GOD i came across to find this wonderful thing!! it's one of these wonderful things in the world (for me it is) , but unfortunately everything that "was" beautiful back then has lost it soul nowdays "the future" as you may notice the new DD2 has the most common "Ecchi" japanese theme i.e. the sexy new female laharl same as every new anime these days to attract(lure) ppl = more money(sales) .... but still love disgaea in general

bottom line is , that a very specific & few ppl love Disgaea by heart & mind that actually DOES like it & find the gameplay unique + not bored of it , also the amazing characters, story, playtrhough, soundtracks etc... all combined together is just a marvelous wonder if i may say....

Don't really care about that game myself to be honest, with the huge disappointment of XIII I'm not eager to play either XIII-2 or XIII-3. But I do look forward to Drakengard 3 a lot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-12rglp-QXY) (love the song that begins at 1:28), which also happens to be released in Japan today. Easily my most anticipated game of 2014.

That's okay. As long as some people like it, that's really all that matters. It can't be helped that there are so many closed minded people that blindly jump on the bandwagon of hate, all because it's not the nostalgia trip of the old games. I commend the XIII series for having the balls to do some things differently and not doing the same old boring thing like other games.

I still don't really understand the disappointment with XIII. Unless you're gonna give me the "it's a linear game" BS. So what? Final Fantasy X was linear too, shall we shit all over that game? Nah. It gets exempt from that because it was released on the cherished PS2. Nowadays every new FF game gets compared to old games, even though they're trying to reinvent it by doing bold and new things. I'll admit some of the new changes are weird as hell, but come on, that's what FF always was. Weird as hell.

Now I can understand if the story wasn't to your liking, or the characters, but that doesn't necessarily make it a huge disappointment. I think all of this is preconceived based on other things. It's strange how now, no one can rate XIII for the game that it is. Rather, they rate it in conjection of the series and its predecessors.

"Final Fantasy XIII-2 can hold its head up high as a large improvement over its _predecessor_"
"New players may find all the back story and references from XIII a bit confusing"
"FFXIII-2 had much more to offer than its sterile CGI-driven _predecessor_"
"Final Fantasy XIII's laundry list of flaws turned you off to the _Final Fantasy franchise_, then Final Fantasy XIII-2 will get you back in."
"It does some things better than its _predecessor_, some things worse"
"This is definitely a step in the direction of that _old_ Final Fantasy feel we've come to know and love"
Literally every review is taking into consideration the older game. And I personally think that's disgusting. But humourous. If you also scour across the internet, you'll see some fairly positive reviews for XIII. Like Gametrailers for instance. They gave XIII an 8.6, and XIII-2 an 8.8, but in a recent video, every single editor called the XIII series disgusting and a joke. Hey, way to be two faced jackasses and not stand behind the rating that you gave your games. Classic case of bandwagon jumping. Assholes.

Rant aside, Drakengard 3 looks awesome. Don't really know much about it or the series in general, but that's one I want to get into someday.

I didn't like FF XIII, i played it and the main issue was the combat system. :/ I must note i didn't like XII either for similar reasons. (much prefer the older ATB systems) I am however looking forward to FF XV (formally Final Fantasy Versus XIII) as the setting iterests me plus the battles seems to be real time.

OmegaBlade

FF X was the last Final Fantasy that I well and truly loved. Every Final Fantasy since has been an experiment in innovation that I just haven't agreed with. FF XI wasn't a single player game so I won't even discuss that. FF XII was a single player MMO with a long meandering political plot that was hard to get into. The single player MMO bit was the worst part to me. FFXIII had annoying characters in general, no towns or NPCs to talk to, and a combat system change that I again did not like. FF XIII-2 Improved on everything that FF XIII did wrong, but still had that combat system unfortunately. All that being said, I did like them enough to buy and play through them all. Hell I even got the platinum trophies on both XIII and XIII-2. I disagree with a lot of the decisions that were made, but they were still enjoyable games in their own right.

The fact that Drakengard 3 exists baffles my mind. The first Drakengard was a grindy difficult mess with a lot of weird and horrifying characters and plot elements. I really shouldn't have played that game when I was a kid. Every ending past the first one was just outright disturbing. Drakengard 2 was the sequel to the first ending of Drakengard, and wasn't directed by the guy that directed the first one, so it was decidedly less effed up and was more of a meh average game. I don't think either one sold very well so I'm confused as to how the 3rd one is coming about, but it looks to be potentially as mind scarring as the first one was.

In case anyone here doesn't already know, Nier was a sequel to the final ending you could unlock in Drakengard. The world is still dark and depressing, but the game was much more enjoyable, as was the story and characters. Then there was the music. Nier has some ridiculously awesome music. If you haven't listened to it, get it from ffshrine right now and listen to it!

I don't get it. FFXIII gets so much slack because of it's "so-called" linearity, but FFX is as much "on rails" as FFXIII when you think about it, but FFX is much more universally praised. I think they're both actually VERY similar.....like FFXIII, FFX also opens up a bit more later on and although there's a world map in FFX, I can't say it gives the same kind of freedom (or at least it feels like it) as other FF's that came before FFX.

IMHO FFXIII has the MUCH better battle system though, plus a better story and I prefer most of the characters in FFXIII. FFX has slightly better music though, although I feel FFXIII is just "different", maybe it's because of my love for Uematsu's tunes which were missing in FFXIII, but well.....I guess I'd say they're equal in that department (I guess my opinion changes by the minute LOL). FFXIII kinda missed the typical Uematsu battle themes like "Seymour Battle".

BTW, I feel FFXIII is definitely the superior when compared to FFXIII-2. Although I loved playing through it and love it more then FFX/FFXII (the PS1 games are a totally different story).I feel that FFXIII-2's story was kind of a mess. Ok...the gameplay wasn't linear, but is that really what makes this game so much better then FFXIII? Especially when some proclaim to prefer the "classic-style" FF's, which are quite linear as a whole (only FFX-2 is similar in it's approach).

In case anyone here doesn't already know, Nier was a sequel to the final ending you could unlock in Drakengard. Hell, yes! Nier has an amazing score. Lots of vocals though, but I think it adds so much to the music in this case (I usually prefer instrumental). "The Wretched Automatons" is one of my all-time favorite VGM tracks...it's so good!

I know that "linearity" is spouted often as a detraction, but is that really a bad thing? I don't think that a more open world is inherently better. Linear games tend to be more focused and can provide really enjoyable experiences that non linear games often can't. Gigantic non linear worlds that you can explore in any order you want tend to detract from the story. I think gameplay, story, and by extension the characters are the most important things to consider for a game. Not that I don't enjoy games like Skyrim, but I'm not going to look back on it with the same fondness I do with other games.

Final Fantasy X was linear too, shall we shit all over that game?
You won't hear any protests from me, it's the first FF game I didn't bother to finish because I thought it was awfully bad. After ~20 hours of boredom my hope for the game to get better was vanished, and I just quit and never touched it again. That said, I think FFVIII was the first weak FF game, but at least it was bearable with some good spots here and there, so I did reach the end of that one.

It's kinda sad, during most of the 90s it was pretty much the series of wonder, the best there was. And now, well, I just don't care about the new entries to the series anymore, it might as well be dead. Square-Enix must do something truly spectacular to draw me back into it again, like getting Yasumi Matsuno and giving him free reign and not let the clueless suits break him down with their nonsense and focus groups and whatnot, like they did with FFXII. "No, Balthier or Basch can't be the main character, it must be an annoying young kid who doesn't have a clue about anything cause it's fun to play as a bumbling idiot" and so on.

For me games like Lost Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles, Ni no Kuni, Nier, Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Valkyria Chronicles and a couple of others were far better games than FFXIII this console generation. Even enjoyed the handheld games like Radiant Historia a lot more. And that was almost unthinkable back then. Sure, Chrono Trigger might be better than the SNES FF games, but that's kinda it. And now FF isn't close to the top. IMO, the series is just riding on the waves of it's former glory :p

Anyway, enough of this FF offtopic-ness. Thanks McGlynn for the Persona 4 OST :)

Tidus wasn't whiny? xD There will always be that one niche Japanese person that is the whiny runt of the group. Lots of games divide characters into specific chapters though. I thought it was a nice way to keep things fresh. And one of the only things I hate about XIII is how when you run around and try to talk to people, they'll all sputter their lines at you at once rather than simply pressing a button and talking to them one at a time. I'm the kind of person that does that A LOT. I need to get every line out of every motherfucker I see.

Anyway, we should stop derailing the thread since it's off topic. Someone can make a topic about this stuff in the General Discussion section and we can pick it up from there, though.

Thanks for the new music guys!

No remix or arrange.
It is hard me to explain that. (especially in English...)

You have a song from the Zelda Majoras Mask Soundtrack (http://vgmdb.net/album/31358) and listen to it. You hear an instrument just left.

Now, you hear the same song by the new soundtrack here.
You can hear the instrument on both sides now (or right or whatever). But that does not apply to every song

I hope I could explain it well enough.

The volume and reverb are a bit lower than in the original recording and it sounds less harsh. Overall bit...muffled? But all in all, it's the same music as the 2000 printing. Maybe we get something remastered for MM's (hopefully!) upcoming remake.... ;)

Looping issues?

He probably means tracks being too short. Most osts loop almost twice or more but in an effort to fit everything on 2 disks they barely loop once making several half-minute tracks which makes for a poor listening experience.

Which is why you grab the European Version for tracks that you wish to loop longer.

I doubt it. If they were gonna do that, they wouldn't have reprinted at all, they would've just given us the remastered/remake/HD/Platinum Edition/Same game you bought the first time only you shelled out more money again to have it on another system because you don't into emulators/whatever

My drive doesn't cache, so I turned it off. People seem to have rather diverse opinions about this..if it should be on or off if your drive isn't capable. But I'll turn it on if it's the preferred way...sure. Didn't know about the checksum, I've used a couple of guides over the years and they neglected to mention it.

alexfilth
12-24-2013, 02:53 AM
If you're sure it doesn't cache you can leave it off. And it's a good thing that your drive doesn't cache, if 'm not mistaken that option is there to stop drives that actually do cache audio. If you turn it on it will probably only make the ripping process slower. ;)

The log checksum is there to check if the log has been edited, it's not that important but if you turn it on it's a plus.

Thanks for the clarification :)

Like I said people seem to have different opinions on the whole audio cache matter. I took the whole thing rather straightforward, EAC says my drive doesn't cache, so...I turn it off.

Quick question, since some of you may know; would a drive that reads/rips blu-rays be better at reading cd's? i.e. i've got some cds where a few tracks error out, any realistic chance a blu-ray drive would provide a better rip where they don't error out?

No, it doesn't make a difference. A blu-ray drive just adds an extra laser diode next to the standard laser for reading normal cd's/cd-rom's. And the blu-ray laser can't read cd's. ;)

This is my first upload so it's probably not perfect. I did my best to follow Vegeta's EAC guide, but it didn't make a CUE for some reason and despite doing nothing different it made a log and m3u for disc 2, but not 1 (sorry guys!) Whenever I get the chance I'll post the music from Paper Mario 2, since it's one of my all-time favorites (definitely in my top 10). There have been some subpar rips out there with the right and left sound channels not being in order (most of the sound was coming from either the left or right channel) and in my eyes this is a perfect (album quality) rip. Since there's no CD release this will be a fine substitute :)

If you've never heard this soundtrack before and do like mario/cartoony-like gamemusic (with a twist) then get this at once!!

Too bad both composer (Yuki Tsujiyoko and Yoshito Hirano ) haven't done much composing lately.

I've heard that Nintendo has pretty much said that they will not release any soundtracks for their games.I don't know where you heard that but it's totally wrong, they've kicked out soundtracks since the early days (http://vgmdb.net/album/1485) and have kept it up since, with a strange blip around the Gamecube era.

(edit: I'm probably missing a joke here... if so, d'oh.)

OmegaBlade
01-02-2014, 01:14 AM
Sort of joking yeah. It feels that way though.

They don't seem to want to release soundtracks for most of the games I'm interested in.

Not one soundtrack from the Mario and Luigi rpgs, not one.

No sign of a Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon soundtrack either.

Then of course the GameCube era games that don't have them either.

Nintendo insists on making me sad.

I don't know where you heard that but it's totally wrong, they've kicked out soundtracks since the early days (http://vgmdb.net/album/1485) and have kept it up since, with a strange blip around the Gamecube era.

(edit: I'm probably missing a joke here... if so, d'oh.)

Actually I have to agree with OmegaBlade here. Nintendo has actually officially stated in the past that they're not out to release anymore "official" commercial CD soundtrack releases (something you can buy in a normal store). They only seek out to release soundtracks by means of promoting a game. That's why there are still Club Nintendo soundtrack releases now and then, purely for promotion (like the recently announced Super Mario 3D World CD soundtrack, only in Japan though :( ). But they won't let other publishers (like Pony Canyon) release cd albums of their games anymore. This has been going since around the time when the Wii came out (probably a little bit earlier).

Can't find that official statement at the moment though :-/

Yeah.... I thought 2013 was supposed to be the year of Luigi, but it seems odd that his premier game didn't get a dedicated soundtrack yet.

But its no secret that Nintendo is odd when it comes to choosing which OST it will release and which one it won't. Maybe if they sold their CDs instead of offering them as limited promos, they might find out that theres profit to be had. Why else would Square Enix publish 90 fucking versions of the same tunes.

Seriously theres like one Twewy game but like 15 different versions of Twister. Am I the only one that hated that track?

Two deliciously quirky soundtracks (with some serious tracks sprinkled about here and there) composed by Nobuo Uematsu (VS 3D) and the Hanjuku Mages (7 Heroes).
The Hanjuku Mages are actually some very prominent Square Enix composers like Naoshi Mizuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito and Kenji Ito (and more).

HH VS 3D is a rather overlooked Uematsu gem in my eyes. Sure, there is quite a bit of filler, but it does include some of my most favorite Uematsu tunes ever like Digital Predator, Jet Black Hatred (very reminiscent of his FFIX music), Thrilling Strings, Honkey Tonkey Fantasy and the SUPER crazy 44 Rock. And don't get me started on that fantastic vocal theme.

The 7 Heroes OST isn't as good the VS 3D one though. There are a couple of repeat tracks from VS 3D and the new Uematsu tracks are rather uninspired. Instead the upbeat tracks from Kenji Ito (Changing Heartbreak Into a Battle) and especially the tracks by Hirosato Noda are the highlighs on this album (I love Get The Research Data! and Cyber Sound Melody).

O, yeah....the VS 3D soundtrack is the bonus pack which includes the soundtrack from the Hanjuku Hero game on the NES.

Enjoy, guys!!

This is the complete soundtrack from Volgarr the Viking. In my opinion, it is some of the best and most memorable VGM from 2013.
The official release by Kochun Hu has slightly altered tracks, like some world and boss themes are merged and play seamlessly.
While it benefits from more proper intros and endings, it is missing a few tracks.
Maybe you enjoy listening to the music as it was heard in the game, with each track separated and no alterations.
So what I did with this release is this:
- Each track is long enough to play once, after that if fades out properly.
- Boss tracks are quite shorter so they are conveniently looped.
- A few tracks end properly because they were supposed to end, others benefit from minimal modifications in the start so they don't feel abrupt.
- I cleaned the sound from some noticeable pops and clicks found even in the official sound master. I did it because it annoyed me personally, but maybe this change won't matter to you.
- As a bonus, the credits song "Juggernaut" by Sonic Prophecy is not a rip from the game but it's lossless CD-Quality WAV file, the authentic version by the band.

Slightly, yes. I believe the samples are somewhat improved, and the volume level seems to have been adjusted on some songs. The discs are basically a cash-in, though, probably to gauge remaining interest in what are considered the series' best three games.

If it were just me, then I wouldn't care too much either. It's because the people that I care about do, that I also care.

I have what you need right here, builderkid107.

After clicking the link and entering the code, you'll come to the 4 files.

The trick here is to NOT download all the files at once, but to download each file INDIVIDUALLY.

Select 1 file and click Download. Two options will appear: Accelerated Download and Normal Download. Click Normal Download.

After a brief wait, your file will download!

Repeat the process for the rest of the files 'til you have them all, and don't forget to tell the original sharer Thanks!

I'd think not, most, if not all of the music in the Gran Turismo games is licensed.

Two 4-disc sets, which I dug up and gave a good listen to recently. Great stuff. From Beyond from Wild Arms 3 will always be one my all-time favorites.

Weird, it was alive a few months ago. I've downloaded the whole torrent, though. I'll try to upload at least something from your list, but my upload speed is very slow, so it'll take a while.
