Vimana is from a time that stereotypical remarks weren't seen like a crime, just like Punch-Out, and a Vimana is thought to be UFO seen by ancient Indians, it was "natural" for a shooter from that legendary company to have such a name.

A salamander is not only the real animal, it's also a mythical reptilian that was thought to live in fire and was supposed to be immortal or something, you see a lot of this kind in many Gradius/Salamander games, not the little real reptiles.

Unless we live in Japan, I don't think there was a way not to miss the concert. We wouldn't be here browsing and goofing around.

Again, thanks a million for the uploads, I hope you could find some more from the early 90's like the first two, I've been looking for a better rip of Salamander Again (KICA-7601).

I don't want to ask this (on the possibility of derailing the thread) but I have to know: I was downloading some albums today (not on the shrine) and I noticed one of the (lossless) uploads touting a CBR bitrate type, I've been dealing with lossless music for 3 years now, and for some reason I never noticed (or realized) that lossless formats had bitrate types akin to lossy formats (CBR, VBR, et al.). My question is why would a lossless format (FLAC in this particular case) need/bother with bitrate types?

I came across a lossless upload of an album that boasted having a CBR bitrate, I'm just asking why a lossless format needs CBR or any bitrate type for that matter because (as I understand it) when you play a Flac (or any other lossless format), the file is decoded (uncompressed) to Wav or whatever the original format the audio was. I thought bitrate types only applied to lossy formats...

Is anybody else who got this hearing a lot of static while playing the tracks?


I came across a lossless upload of an album that boasted having a CBR bitrate, I'm just asking why a lossless format needs CBR or any bitrate type for that matter because (as I understand it) when you play a Flac (or any other lossless format), the file is decoded (uncompressed) to Wav or whatever the original format the audio was. I thought bitrate types only applied to lossy formats...
Idk about a CBR bitrate. Foobar for example will sometimes display a seemingly random number for the bitrate of lossless files, during playback the bitrate info near the track time, format, etc. changes which shows that it's sorta technically VBR. Either way it still decodes back to PCM.

This DK release that I'm also talking about above shows as a constant bitrate, anywhere from 626-885.

Idk about a CBR bitrate.There is no CBR for FLAC or any other lossless codec, since basically they constantly alter bitrate to fit the audio rather than alter the audio to fit a bitrate (hence "lossless" vs "lossy" - the latter by design alters the waveform, the former by design does not). The bitrate that foobar shows for FLAC files will be an average over the track, and this will vary depending on what is being encoded; put simply, the closer to white noise, the higher the bitrate, and the closer to silence, the lower the bitrate.

So yeah, quoting the bitrate for a lossless file is pretty meaningless, unless you're comparing the efficiency of different lossless compression schemes.

Yeah you put it better than I could. I've noticed that foobar tends to use that number as the "cbr" while playing flac's, meanwhile Alac's number changes throughout as if it were "vbr" (I know that realistically they're both essentially vbr, and that a bitrate reading for them doesn't really mean anything, but I am curious why this happens)

It's got that CRT tone throughout it. I'm guessing this release is pulled from the Disc. Otherwise I have no idea, but it is there.

This tends to happen even here in the UK on Amazon, its usually on old stuff that has so many used copies floating about that it just goes so low, condition might be alright but i suggest using google translate or some other service to check the conditions though. Also note most people selling on Amazon Japan wont sell overseas so you'll have to use some middle man kinda of service.

IKARUGA Soundtrack (GameCube ADPCM Rip ~ Custom OST)

Custom soundtrack I made, as "perfect" as it can get. Unfortunately, there is no proper official release for the purists, which is a shame.
I took the audio from the GameCube version since it practically had better mastered sound, and can be considered the definitive version for aural enjoyment.
It sounds full with proper reverb and bass, unlike the heavy treble-ed and dry DSF files from the Naomi/Dreamcast version.
Also, every track is properly looped 1 time, with 10 second smooth fade out in the end + fixed the lousy Click/Pop present in the Boss Theme.

Yes, that's the 'shitty rip' I was referring to. A 15khz complete flat cutoff means this is just audio from Youtube or something.

It's because it's taken from a Japanese ripper or something like that and they have nothing to do with this site, a lot of the posts in this thread are. Hell, most of mine are Chinese/Japanese rippers who I'm leeching off of. You never know if someone's a dumbass and thinks Youtube videos with the 'lossless' tag are actually lossless so they rip that.

Hell, Comiket 84 just happened and there were several transcodes that floated around during that too. Since Falcom Field Zanmai was released early at C84 I don't know if it was a limited print and hard to come by or something, but all I know is I haven't seen a real rip yet. It will officially be released and be available to buy in retail somewhere around October, I believe, but it's nice to not have to wait.

You just keep making my day Logi74. I love Falcom's music. It was physically painful for me to see all this lost in the wake of the v1 thread. I am very happy you are sharing it once more.

You never know if someone's a dumbass and thinks Youtube videos with the 'lossless' tag are actually lossless so they rip that.
Sometimes they don't even read that tag, sometimes they even take M4A or AAC as lossless. YouTube transcodes are usually made by newbies at this forum and the worst part is that they think they are making us a favor uploading those transcodes. 3 weeks ago, an infamous Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Pre Soundtrack YouTube transcode upset many people at the forum. If I wanted something so lossy, I would've transcoded it myself.

Let's just say eventually they don't get those donations and this forum is terminated as a result. What happens then? There's no heir apparent forum that comes near this place. That's just something that's in the back of my mind.

We technically can move to much private VGM forum like astost,all thought it have more focus on JP VGM there.

Problem with astost is it's entirely in chinese, it's very cumbersome and annoying to navigate in there for foreigners :(

Yes. It has really high bandwidth cause they keep all those soundtracks up on the GH side.I don't want to jinx anything but I have to say that in today's political climate and with the increasing commercial availability of VGM on iTunes, Bandcamp etc I'm amazed that GH hasn't been taken down. I remember using it when I was in uni in 2005 or so, and it's been going more or less ever since, which is some impressive uptime for an... "unofficial" MP3 site.

LOL no. I think they do that because they are afraid more and more people will cancel their cable tv or phone subscriptions if they give better cheaper internet thats what all younger ppl are doing. Also they do it cuz theyre greedy and have no competitiveness lol. If you are trying to convert flac to alac 24-bit (if it even exists) you won't get higher quality from the original flac files.

I found a 24-bit Flac rip of the FFXIV Before Meteor Blu-Ray OST. Was just curious if there was an ALAC equivalent I could use for my collection

I thought Before Meteor master was only 16 bit.

Anyone knows how long do files get stored in Mega? Do we have to concern about re-uploads all the time?

I think the uploads are good as long as some asshat doesn't report them.

So far MEGA hasn't deleted any of my uploads. I have also yet to encounter a dead link from someone else. It seems to be a good choice for now.
