Then another MP3 -V0 copy for use in the iPod since iPod's don't support FLAC playback.
Why not go for MP4/AAC then? It's better than MP3 in all ways.
Anyways check the OptimFROG compression, amazing!
Wow it rivals LA. Though according to the link LA decodes slightly faster
They're quite the resource hog and also unmaintained for years. Neither is worth it for the compression ratio IMHO.

Thanks. Many probably won't notice as they can be opened in players and be listened to fine. I had the problems when I tried to convert them.
Maybe decoding them to .wav then into .mp3 (or whatever format you wanted) ?

FLAC vs ALAC => Noticeable difference if your music player is iTunes: iTunes does not support FLAC (source (
http://xiph.org/flac/itunes.html)) which imho is a lame way to coerce users into using their format and no other.
FLAC is open software and has been from the very beginning ("Free" lossless audio codec with "free" as in "free speech").

It's not always a bad thing though. Despotic approaches are sometimes beneficial for forcing technology forward. Not supporting Flash in favour of HTML5, for example. Promoting MP4/AAC is another, and I actually wish they'd take a bolder move like deprecating MP3 on iTunes. The Lightning connector makes a strong rival for USB and thanks to the competition we'll get USB 3.1 and the reversible Type-C connector soon.

!??
Uhm... Either my math is wrong or that's 1.88GB for FLAC 5 + MP3V0 and you'd save only ~20MB when switching to ALAC from FLAC 5.
Well, my math was off a bit, typed that up in a rush lol. FLAC5+MP3V0 shows 1.87GB on my computer, and ALAC alone is 1.40GB. Which is a savings of 0.47GB or roughly ~470MB. Because ALAC is a lossless format and also playable via iTunes/iPod, I do not need the MP3V0 version anymore, which is where most of the "savings" comes from.
I'm clearly not trying to convince everyone ALAC is better, it obviously isn't, but it fits my needs better than any other lossless codec out there.
and why to use flac 5, intead of flac 9 ? just a little big more time doing the conversion ? no way
To the best of my knowledge there is no FLAC 9. There is another FLAC level though. There's FLAC 0 through 8, then there's FLAC Uncompressed. But there is no logical reason to use the FLAC Uncompressed level.
Why not go for MP4/AAC then? It's better than MP3 in all ways.
Did this, the FFVII OST in MP4/AAC @224 came out around 443MB. It's still more space effective for me to use the ALAC as archive and playable. ALAC is 1.40GB, FLAC 8 [1.37GB] + MP4/AAC [0.44GB] = 1.81GB.
It's also a problem if you use it on your ipod or whatever since ALAC doesn't compress as well as FLAC and you're already limited on space.
This is why I'm still rocking that OG iPod Classic with 120GB lol still not enough space, but a lot better than a 16GB iPod Touch my gf has

Aye, my 160 GB is full; I've been having to down convert tracks I don't care about to lossy in order to fit more tracks I do care about on there.
Nobody is gonna make another hard drive based model player with more size though, so I'm hoping over the next few years those SD card players start amping up their storage capacity.

Be advised, obviously I cannot cater to every person's preferences. This is intended to be an extended edition. If the original release sounds satisfactory to you then by all means I do not dissuade you from listening to that at all, and this version is more than likely not for you.
Here is my Extended Edition version for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Did anyone wait for this? I don't know. I myself wasn't privy to this either, but lo and behold here it is.
I don't know much else to say regarding this Extended Edition now that this is the fourth Zelda game I have covered. Practically all the guidelines I followed for the previous editions apply to this one as well. Unlike other editions this project consists solely out of the material which was provided in the official Sound Selection (
http://vgmdb.net/album/48039). In other words, no tracks have been added and no different sources were used.
Credits as always go to the original uploader, whose material was required to make this release.
Also, thanks go out to the following great people without whom this would not have been possible:
- The FFShrine user “Vrantheo (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/vrantheo-193026)” for helping translate the Japanese liner notes in the booklet of the official release to English, which I further adapted and ironed out the errors to use it as part of the text that make up the booklet.
- The DeviantArt user “Doctor-G (
http://doctor-g.deviantart.com/)” for one of the art pieces I utilized and adapted for the booklet.
- The DeviantArt user “bellhenge (
http://bellhenge.deviantart.com/)” for the Hilda and Zelda artwork I utlized in the booklet.
Everything was accomplished with Audacity (Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder (
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)).
No Mp3 requests please.

http://vgmdb.net/album/51141) (I noticed you used the fan translation of the Japanese track names, so I thought I'd offer the more "official" English track names, if you're interested.)
Vegeta: Thanks for adding the SSB4 OST to your library! I think you said it wasn't your rip a few pages back, but I figured I should still give you a heads-up that track 19 of disc 1 ("Wrath of the Reset Bomb" from Kid Icarus: Uprising) skips around a little bit. I don't know if that's how it actually plays on the disc or if it was a ripping problem or what.

I chose ALAC for one simple reason, saving myself space. I use my iPod in my car and on the go. I use to keep a FLAC version of a soundtrack for Archive purposes, then another MP3-V0- copy for use in the iPod since iPod's don't support FLAC playback. Using the FFVII OST as an example. I used dbPowerAmp to convert my lossless ALAC copy to FLAC 0, FLAC 5, FLAC 8, and then MP3 V0.
Here are the resulting sizes:
ALAC - 1.40 GB
FLAC 0 - 1.49 GB
FLAC 5 - 1.38 GB
FLAC 8 - 1.37 GB
MP3 V0 - 506 MB
So my old FFVII OST folder used to be 1.43GB (FLAC 5 + MP3V0 because I didn't know about different FLAC levels at the time, 5 being default/standard). Changing to ALAC, saved me ~300MB on just this one OST. Not to mention all the other artists I have Lossless Disco's for (Dream Theater, X JAPAN, GACKT, Eminem, DMX, Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki, etc...)
By all means, feel encouraged to convert my ALAC to whatever format fits your archival needs.
As far as you possibly having something I need, if you just want to screenshot your FF folder and PM me the link I'll scour through and see if I can find anything.
Excuse me if this has been said already, but looking at your numbers, FLAC 8 is smaller than ALAC. Why then did you choose ALAC?
Edit: Nvm, I refreshed my browser and got the new posts >.<

So I finished Muv-Luv (extra, unlimited, and alternative) a couple of weeks ago. This isn't the place for a review or anything, but I thought I might share some insight real quick. It's long. It has pacing issues. Some of members of the ensemble cast are more interesting than the "main characters" (the heroines). I really, really, had a hard time liking Sumika. And there were some weird plot points that were just never adressed.
As you'll notice this is just a bunch of vague criticism, but that'll clue you in that I felt like the story was dragging it's feet for a while. On paper, the story seems pretty sound, albeit ridiculous. But somehow, in execution I felt like it tripped over itself a few times. I don't think I'm emotionally insensative, but I don't think I got as much out of this as others claim they have. There's some pretty neat situations to behold, surely. However, for the HUGELY long odyssey that is Muv-Luv, I kept feeling like, if they could put on a good show there in the later portions of the story, why make the earlier bits so rough?
I'll leave it at that. Enjoy the music. There's still the vocal collection, and the Total Eclipse album left to do, and I'll try and get those up sooner than later.

I should have known from the file size of the download, its 24-bit. Much larger files than the iTunes/ALAC version converted to FLAC which are 16-bit
Thank you very much for the upgrade. I technically shouldn't be able to tell the difference, and maybe its placeebo effect going on, but I kind of feel like this one sounds better.
Though I'm not talking about the bits specifically, it just overall sounds slightly cleaner.

Fjnanfag: Good work! (As always.) I don't know if this is the sort of thing that would interest you, but a European version of the ALBW OST was recently released, which contains a localized tracklist: THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS OFFICIAL... - VGMdb (
http://vgmdb.net/album/51141) (I noticed you used the fan translation of the Japanese track names, so I thought I'd offer the more "official" English track names, if you're interested.)
At what position does it skip at?

I'm downloading 109GB, but I think I only need like 4GB, is that lazy? >_>
Well shit, I just updated to my clients newest version because it was recently whitelisted on what.cd, I'll be damned if I change versions again lol
I say just weed through them now and only download what you'll need. I won't redownload something for scans, but would definitely choose a version with scans if given the choice. Not really a necessity for me.

as for you mil0 yes i will check. its basically a spot in japan that has all 90's and 2000's stuff...1 in osaka and other in tokyo. a mom and pop type store but tons of ost's. i will check for those 2. miL0 u never kno when it comes to evergrace or silent bomber. stuff im into when it comes to vg osts or instrumentals or even hiphop in japan i get sometimes for super cheap and yet stuff i could find easily or dont want is actually more such as say final fantasy 7 ost. maybe prices ar ebased on the mass amount of awareness of the title or arist? dont jinx me please lol

These are excellent live recordings of orchestral video game music concerts that took place in Japan from 1991 to 1996. They are out of print and very hard to find. It took me a year or so (off and on) to find them in lossless format and without ripping errors. I eventually found FLAC versions in an obscure web directory, but for some reason that I don't remember I was dissatisfied with the copy of Concert 4 (or maybe it wasn't available from that source at the time) and I ended up downloading NineEyes9Nines' copy (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/lossless-video-game-soundtrack-thread-v2-126974/72.html#post2379171) from this thread (which I found later).
EDIT 3/20/2015: I replaced all five albums with copies that I believe to be slightly better than my previous copies, if only because they verify as accurate without offset adjustments. The remainder of this post is edited to reflect this change. I updated my download files and added new links to allow you to download the new, high resolution booklet scans and PDF booklets separately from the music (the scans and PDFs are included in the music downloads as well).
I obtained the new copies from ffshrine member Vegeta who gave me permission to offer them here in place of my previous copies (access to his music collection normally requires a subscription). Thanks, Vegeta! Vegeta claims that his copies were personal rips by a friend of ffshrine member CGBS. They include CUE and LOG files, as well as high-resolution booklet scans, which I composed into PDF booklets (I include both the PDFs and the original scans in my downloads).
Even though my previous copies verified with AccurateRip, they did not match Vegeta's copies in a bit comparison except for Concert 2, and mine verified "with offset" while Vegeta's copies all verify with no offset notices. Also, the confidence number for Concert 4 differed between the two copies. I don't know if this indicates a different pressing or a bootleg version. Vegeta's copies, by the way, all verify with a confidence of 3 or 4 (actually, track 14 of Concert 1 has a confidence of only 2 for some reason).
I performed a comparison between my previous copies (A), NineEyes9Nines' copies (B), and Vegeta's copies (C) of these albums using the foobar2000 Binary Comparator and AccurateRip plugins and here are the results as of March 19, 2015:
Concert 1 - A and B match, but do not match C. They all verify with AccurateRip with the same confidence numbers, but A and B with an offset of 12.
Concert 2 - All copies match.
Concert 3 - A (except for the last track) verified with the same confidence as C (4), but with an offset of 48 (the last track did not verify). B is not found in the AccurateRip database. Also, each track is about 2 seconds shorter than A and C.
Concert 4 - A and B match, but do not match C. A and B verify with AccurateRip with a confidence of 2 (vs 3 for C).
Concert 5 - A verified with the same confidence as C, but with an offset of 12. B and C match except for the last track (#12) in which there is a length mismatch; B is 1 sample shorter than C. AccurateRip reports that B is "not a correct gapless rip".
The albums are in FLAC format (each track a separate file) and I have tagged all tracks in English as accurately and completely as I could. (NineEyes9Nines' copies all have Japanese titles and filenames which appear as series of block characters on my computer.) I have added additional tags over those originally present in Vegeta's copies. I added Artist, Composer, Performer, Arranger, Conductor, Ensemble (which is the same as the Album Artist), and Label. All info is from VGMdb with some assistance from Wikipedia. I use a custom Genre of "Soundtrack - Video Game (Remixed/Rearranged)". Just change that to whatever works best in your library. The cover art is included as a JPG file called "folder.jpg", but is not attached to the tracks as a tag (this is my preference).
I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do!

http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/lossless-video-game-soundtrack-thread-v2-126974/72.html#post2379171) from this thread (which I found later).
All albums verify with AccurateRip (using foobar2000) with a confidence number of 2-4 depending upon the album, except the last track of Concert #3 (track 16) which is reported as "not accurate". I don't hear any defects in the track, though. NineEyes9Nines' copy of that track is identical to mine bit-for-bit, though the other 15 tracks do not match mine for some reason; they all have different durations from mine and do not verify with AccurateRip.
I performed a comparison of our two copies of these albums using the foobar2000 Binary Comparator plugin and here are the results as of March 13, 2015:
Concert 1 - Both copies match
Concert 2 - Both copies match
Concert 3 - NineEyes9Nines' copy is not found in the AccurateRip database. Also, each track is about 2 seconds shorter than my copy (except the last track, which matches mine).
Concert 4 - Both copies match
Concert 5 - AccurateRip reports that NineEyes9Nines' copy is "not a correct gapless rip". Each track also differs from mine in the bit comparison.
The albums are in FLAC format (each track a separate file) and I have tagged all tracks in English as accurately and completely as I could. NineEyes9Nines' copies all have Japanese titles and filenames which appear as a series of block characters on my computer.
The albums include PDF booklets that I made from scans that were included when I downloaded the albums. The cover art is also included as a JPG file called "folder.jpg", but is not attached to the tracks as a tag (this is my preference). I also use a custom Genre of "Soundtrack - Video Game (Remixed/Rearranged)". Just change that to whatever works best in your library.

By the way, I have all 5 of these, as accurately ripped including log & cue files, plus scans. If you want to replace the ones you have, you can message me for a subscription (which is free), and you can grab them. Assuming you would like to rest easy knowing the rip is legit. By the way, the rips I got from CGBS here on ffshrine, but they got it from someone they know that had them uploaded to a private site that is no longer active. However they were personal rips from the guy CGBS knew. And all 5 scored 100% accurate.
I don't care what you do with them, hell you could even reupload the files on your website and replace the links on your post, far as I care. Just saying, you might want these instead.

This is random and unprovoked, but I'm re-compiling a playlist for work, re-going over all what I had and opting for higher-bitrate lossy files. Just want to re-point out that Lightning Returns had a pretty decent soundtrack.
I actually liked Lightning Returns soundtrack, but did find it to be the weakest of the FF13 saga. I personally think FF13-2 has the best soundtrack of the 3, and one of the best soundtracks in all of the Final Fantasy Games.

It brought me March of the Dreadnoughts, Sazh's Theme, Chocobo of Pulse, Dust to Dust, and a whole load of melodic tracks I keep abusing.

I have a noob question about PC Engine and Redbook Audio. Am I right in thinking it's like more cd/wav audio, so there's no midi like file in the game controlling the console's onboard synth? Or would a .HES, .VGM or similar be available for a PC Engine title like this?
Edit:
I found a site which has a .HES from Ys III. but playing it, it doesn't have a similar sound as the above soundtrack.

I also found this site with a more extensive rip from the PC Engine soundtrack.

PC Engine CD games can make use of the disc for audio, in which case there's no synthesis on the part of the audio chip - it just plays back tracks as they're stored on the disc, in much the same way a CD audio player does. I don't know the details of the PC Engine CD format but usually games with CD audio on them have the game data stored on the first track of a disc; these are called "mixed mode" discs. You won't find any kind of VGM format for such tracks because none is required, they're standard 16-bit/44.1kHz PCM, identical to an audio CD (and they should generally be playable on a regular CD deck, as long as the disc isn't multi-session. Although there's usually a flag for data tracks on such discs, older audio CD decks may mistake the first track for audio and try to play it; I guarantee you will only make this mistake once, as the result is a horrifying screeching noise).
If you find files with a custom extension ripped from a 90s (or earlier) console then you can be sure that they aren't anything like CD audio. They'll be much smaller in size but limited in capability. The CD tracks should sound better, as there's no meaningful restriction to the audio that can be produced other than duration, but of course "better" is subjective and nostalgia can be a powerful thing.

There were PC Engine, PC Engine CD-ROM^2, and PC Engine Super CD-ROM^2. CD-ROM^2 and Super CD-ROM^2 were expansion unit of PC Engine. PC Engine DUO was an unit which combined PC-Engine and Super CD-ROM^2 as one unit. You can check which system they run by looking at right corner of the booklet where YS3 has CD-ROM^2 logo on it.

So if all that matters is that as long as it's in a lossless format, it counts as lossless?
I was counting 16-bit down from 24-bit as technically lossy because it's lost much of its source data; that it doesn't count to up-conver 16 bit FLAC to 24 bit FLAC just like up-converting MP3 to FLAC/WAV/Etc...
And Im talking about higher-res recordings from digital stores or blu rays, not CD's

I'd call it lossy if the original music from online/dvd etc..was 24/96 :P Down-sampling is a BIG no-no for me !!

I`m going to agree with you, just because logic doesn`t apply here (my knowledge is at basic level, so I`ll leave technical stuff to others).

Ys III on the PC Engine uses both CD Audio and sequenced audio. You need both sets of tracks for the entire soundtrack. Use NEZPlug++ for HES files. The sequenced tracks for the Ys games are very good.
...nostalgia can be a powerful thing.
Who says it's nostalgia? It is possible to appreciate the "low-quality" synthesizers for what they are. Who decrees that they are inherently inferior to what you consider are "conventional" instruments?

I figured down-sampling counted as lossy. I downloaded the entire Final Fantasy Music collection (109GB), just for something trivial like collecting scans and cross-examining files/folders to see if I was missing anything, or if something I had was of a lower-quality. Turned out the only thing the entire collection had that I did not have was a Bonus CD for something that wasn't even Final Fantasy.
Checking to see if I had anything lower-quality, I noticed that many albums the were originally released as 24-bit 96k and 88k, or as a blueray disc, were down-sampled to 16bit 44k. Just a heads up to anyone that uses BakaBT's Final Fantasy collection to quickly download a sizable collection of lossless music, not everything is strictly Final Fantasy, and not everything is true lossless.
Distant Worlds II, Distant Worlds Celebration, Final Fantasy XIV Before Meteor, A Realm Reborn, Orchestral Album, and Final Fantasy X HD should all be higher than 24-bit 88k or higher. Thats off the top of my head, there may be more.

You probably shouldn't pull the "I can't hear a difference" card in this thread. Going by that logic, most of this thread is unnecessary.
Atleast to me, downloading lossless music is much more than just listening, its about preserving the integrity of the original source. That art should stay as close to what it was originally. Its why I take the trouble to download a perfect rip of FF14 A Realm Reborn at 7.5GB, even though honestly, I can't tell the difference between the MP3 that takes roughly 1GB.
Despair
03-18-2015, 10:15 AM
While integrity is key, I think for a lot of people it's also the security factor of knowing you have a soundtrack in the highest quality. Plus the benefit of being able to down convert to any format without any extra loss.
As far as hearing the difference goes: It's still relatively easy to hear atleast some difference. Cut offs with high hats are noticeable, roll offs with bass, the sound stage itself should sound a little more "open." This does depend on what you're listening to, but I would think you would notice such things on your favorite tracks, provided you aren't using $10 headphones....still, 96KHz or 24 bit are entirely different beasts.
I won't claim to know if there really is a perceivable difference with 24 bit, (especially since I have no equipment or device that plays it) but that high of a sampling rate is clearly overkill <_<

Anyone know if we're going to have a decent solution for the Bloodborne soundtrack? As far as I know there's only going to be that digital release through the sony platform, though I have no idea what kind of quality that's in.

I believe it'll be 320, like Beyond Two Souls was before it got its official release.
Anyone got CVGS-001 | DODONPACHI SAIDAIOUJOU SPECIAL SOUND TRACK - VGMdb (
http://vgmdb.net/album/39720) floating around? I had intended to grab mixi's rip of it at my leisure, but... well, all his rips have been pulled.
Cause it's not my rip, so I sent you a PM.
Thank you so much. Very helpful, and I'm very happy ^__^
Can't wait to download the DVDISO and extract the opening intro from it. They should've released it on bluray. Animation quality deserves it.

Ahh okay, that's dissapointing but not surprising. I do hope that bloodborne actually has a proper release because man I need that music in lossless @_@

@Everyone: When making tags for a song, what is most suitable to put in "Genre" section, when it comes to gamerips, and it`s not present on VGMdb as a soundtrack?
1. Soundtrack.
2. OST.
3. VGM.
4. GameRip.
5. What else?
Please deal with this as you would deal with a interviewer that is asking you a good question, and you`re in the mood to answer, without asking for more information. So, I`m just asking for general opinion. :)
Maybe it`s for the best if people could PM me, so there`s no clutter on the thread because of my question.

For me, I only call the Genre "Soundtrack". Amazon, iTunes and Qobuz all have the genre as "Soundtrack", whether it's from a movie, tv show or game. It doesn't matter if there are score and various artist albums for the same thing, the genre is still "Soundtrack". :)

That doesn't answer anything. Can you be any more vague? I mean a little more specific?
The OST is not present on usual lossless stores such as Qobuz, Steam, CDbaby. So it's normal to be questioning the source.
My guess the FLAC originated from Kickasstorrents (uploaded on March 15) :
http://ift.tt/1NXA8xB. They don't say what the source of it is either.

For the Genre field, when it comes to video game music, I always put: VGM (insert system here). Like, VGM (NES), VGM (PS1), e.t.c.. I'll even change the tags on official releases to conform to that convention. It's a lot more useful for organization than "Soundtrack" and the like. I like to be able to click the Genre column and get everything lined up according to game system.
If it's non-sequenced modern stuff that spans many different systems, or an arrange album, then I usually just use "VGM".

If the music collection is non-game rip, then search the album being sold in a commercial setting like on iTunes or Amazon and see what THEY listed the genre under.
Example: Ori and the Blind Forest is "Soundtracks"

I tag all game soundtracks as "Game". If it's an arrangement album I tag it as "Game (Arrangement)". If it's an arrangement played by a symphonic orchestra (i.e. Kanto Symphony), I tag it as "Game (Symphony)". And lastly, if it's a Drama CD or Vocal Album it gets tagged as "Game (Vocal)". All movie soundtracks get tagged as "Soundtrack" and anime soundtracks are mostly just "Anime" with the occasional "Anime (Drama CD)" tag.
Of course, there's other stuff like Classical etc., but we're talking game music here :D.

I`m kinda on to what you`re thinking, but, without further complications, maybe it would be best to just separate it to VG Soundtrack, Movie Soundtrack...? It wouldn`t apply to songs composed around, inspired by the game, but, hey, generalizing exists for this reason.
For the Genre field, when it comes to video game music, I always put: VGM (insert system here). Like, VGM (NES), VGM (PS1), e.t.c.. I'll even change the tags on official releases to conform to that convention. It's a lot more useful for organization than "Soundtrack" and the like. If it's non-sequenced modern stuff that spans many different systems, or an arrange album, then I usually just use "VGM".
Yes, for me it`s VGM, because I simply can`t recognize neither the instruments, nor the music... type.
I just put game as the genre, it covers everything.
That`s the viable option as well, VGM sounds official, but we all know what it`s about when it says "Game".
For Gamerips or Gamesoundtracks i always put "Video Game Score" in the Genre.
For Movies, Dokus, Series i just put "Soundtrack" in it!
Gotcha, good idea.
If the music collection is non-game rip, then search the album being sold in a commercial setting like on iTunes or Amazon and see what THEY listed the genre under.
Example: Ori and the Blind Forest is "Soundtracks"
Well in this specific case, it is game-rip, straight from the game, and I couldn`t find official releases with same tracks.
That`s too quite an endeavor, but I get your point. It seems like a good extension to "Game" tag and allows better sorting methods.
GameRip is the word providing the most information here ('though people not familiar to games will not understand it at first sight)
Yes, it does, but it sounds off, as in not cool. ;)
OMG, this is so long, even with spoilers.
Thanks to everyone for their opinions, methods and tag ideas. This had real purpose, don`t worry.

@McFirson: Mind you can actually use more that one genre tag at once, don't know if it's an option for you.
I for instance use all the classifications vgmdb has for a title enclosed with VGM(). Taking that one for instance (
http://vgmdb.net/album/2400), it will have the VGM(Original Soundtrack) and VGM(Arrangement) genres at once. For Game Rips i just use VGM(Gamerip).
Of course that's not perfect because i'm currently tagging all the songs with all genres, but hey...

Thanks for the upload. Unfortunately, this one has an error that prevents the medley track from being played, it suddenly stops during Ice Climbers.
Sorry, I can't check in this moment, because I don't have the ISO in my HDD. I'll verify this error on the weekend.

Ok so $2400 for 3 months. So that's $800 a month. Why does it cost this much? I know a forum doesn't cost that much to run itself. So honestly where are all the "bills" coming from?
I'm sure the people that have donated would like to know the same as well.

One would suspect from holding up GH, which most of the links are broken anyway so it should just be tanked to save cost. It's even more of a joke when the rewards you offer involve mass downloads from GH- when most of the links are dead.
Oh but there's also the FF side of the site...which hasn't been updated since 06 anyway...

I'd personally love to see a relic like Galbadia Hotel scrapped. And mass-downloads of GH is HILARIOUS, not because many links may be dead, but because that I personally feel that anyone that even cared enough to donate, probably doesn't care about GH in the slightest. All I cared about was getting back here as fast as I could.
However unless they reveal how much bandwidth GH really is, I kind of remain skeptical of how much it actually does use. Some forums vs large MP3 cache sounds like a no-brainer like "Well its the MP3 cache obviously" But ffshrine.org is dead outside the forums and no one ever talks about GH, or recommend it. The only time GH is ever discussed is right after the regularly-scheduled money beg. You can blame faceless googlers without an account sipping all the bandwidth from GH, but unless some actual hard data is released saying or showing that, then the only thing/people I have to blame on the bandwidth hogging is us, despite us sticking to 3rd-party hosting and image sharing.
AND WHY ISNT THE DONATE REQUEST BUTTON IN THE CORNER OF THE FORUMS AT THE TOP ALL THE TIME ALWAYS? Why do I have to wait until a shutdown, when all month long they could have set a clearly-marked donate button, and forget it, and hope you catch some charity along the way?
Anyways a little upset my name didn't change, that was like the one thing I only wanted.

I'm no shareholder to have a right bitching about this every time this happens, but this place can really use some total revamp.
Say, a better forum and hosting solution, or even a blog/SNS, with better indexing, archiving and searching functionality of uploads (think about #gamemp3s or VGMDB style, maybe), while remaining a relatively secret club (it astonishes me that, this place, being such a wonderful pirate bay for us, hasn't been gaining much publicity after all these years and the threads are not busted by copyright watchdogs yet).
Kudos, guys. I love you all.

The bills are coming from GH, not the forum itself. GH, on the other hand, is something NOBODY here uses, but because the staff use this forum which is connected to that site, we're all fucked.
The worse thing is that these $2400 bills from the forum community happens every three months or so.
I think there needs to be a solid backup forum option for the time where people don't want to be stuck paying for GH's insane bills. Who wants to pay for something that nobody uses? It's absurd, and nobody here should be forced to.
But I do thank every single person that contributed. I just think Sarah needs to get the situation sorted. Or dump it entirely. Stop taking advantage of your forum members.

Finshed HG/SS OSV, Will upload it later in my own dedicated thread, sorry for not finishing it sooner, I only post when I start and finish something, I've had time constraints but hey- New OSV's are coming soon as well, stay tuned for that!

I agree wholeheartedly, while the problem gets fixed, I'm going to contact the mod and see if I can help a bit with ad.fly links in my downloads when I make my own thread, it will probably be extremely miniscule but it's as close as I'm going to get to showing my gratitude for now.
Did this place go through another emergency donation thing? I haven't been here in like 2 weeks, If so, I am really sorry to hear that. We definitely needs to split, or as you said, a backup option, that'd be super duper great- they don't deserve the stress they go under to keep this place afloat.

I would be more supportive of GH, but I mean come on.. its mp3 files. And even on top of that it states.. "Latest Zipped Full-Album Direct Links on the Forums"
I think there's something really fishy going on.

Yeah, wow, you should drop the Galbadia Hotel thing already. Random mp3s from who-knows-where? Nobody uses it (at least not 90% of the people who are paying for it with donations, I bet; they just want to keep the forums up). This forum and its community is enough. You have to be out of your mind to be paying nearly a grand a month for that crap. I'm so glad I didn't donate, now that I know it was going to keep that nigh useless bloat afloat. (Or maybe you're all actually super douches who are lying about how much the GH hosting costs so you can make a little money off of your forum community?)

If that happens I know SOMEBODY who's going on /cow/
I doubt the mods would do that but, I have a theory I'll keep to myself, stay frosty peeps.
I think this place is going to have some interesting things happen soon....if not then the mods will smite our theories with solid proof of the costs, which I'm hoping they do. I really do like this place.

Im not donating to keep GH afloat. Nobody even uses GH. Unless the mods/admins/whoever is collecting the cash make it clear that GH is not the target of their fund raising from now on, there is no way I am donating jack to them.
Please wake up and rethink your model here because soon enough we are going to abandon this FF Titanic.

Where would be a good place to upload and share VGM besides here?Technically, torrent-related sites. There are also many communities like these with larger populations, but unfortunately, FFshrine is the only one I know thats in English. Though thats more to due with the lack of FFshrine's compliance to copyright laws. Its pretty much "anything goes" which isn't common in English-based communities.

Are you joking? Given the fact you folks aren't uploading anything to Final Fantasy Shrine, but using external services like MEGA, MediaFire, Mirrorcreator (just examples), any place you'd set up and move to would be good enough. This board is just a tool used to post/share links, any other one could easily take its place.

As mentioned above mostly we're just posting links and chitchat, so any technically decent forum/blog would do.
No offence to FFShrine staff, but the current web host and/or forum solution (namely vBulletin in the front, not sure what's really running at the back) is total crap.
